Really Long poetic via ramble incoming BR LOTB moment 🚨🚨🚨
man Diamond and Balance's dynamic and the way it ties into BR's story is absolutely wild
(many stupid words below the line ❤️❤️❤️)
Diamond faced all those horrors in his own universe, he lost so much—had to kill most of what remained of his species, lost Lapis and Enchant and Bedrock and so many allies (he thought Abe and his own father-figure dead), had to feel the weight of a King's crown on his head—and he went to LotB's universe carrying all of this weight that none of them would find out about until the very last second. Not even Abe.
And he gets there and it's the last days before the final battle, the eye of the storm, silence before slaughter, and he is standing outside the Copper Auditorium with Balance discussing the morals of war and the kill
and Balance is okay with killing because he knows what needs to be done to survive. Balance does not want to kill, but they have to, and Diamond just cannot understand that
Because Balance and Diamond lost so much and both reacted in different ways. Balance became detatched and stony and Diamond became desperate and dependent
And Balance says, "Pain is a teacher, Diamond" and he does not understand, he says the death is necessary and the pain will bring progress and Diamond does not understand because he still retains that craving for peace after everything
and soon enough they are split off into the void, and he is faced with the Infected. And in the Infected he sees Bedrock. His friend. And he refuses to make the kill.
and before he knows it, Diamond wakes up shattered. Cracks and breaks running along his entire body, only the strength of Origin upholding him, and inside awakens the power of a god
But the head of Topaz is still severed laying on the ground next to his sword
And Diamond is still broken.
The kill was necessary and he never made it- Balance was right. Balance was always right.
Diamond's need to resolve his own trauma, to avenge those he lost, caused the death of an innocent soldier and nearly the death of himself. I think a part of him died anyway, so far from himself, cracked, enchanted, color, body, wrong
And when Diamond would go home, there was a hope around that he would remember the events of the second crossover
And he would run to the Relic, what ruined it all
(Abe watching his brother go again, and the Relic explodes, shatters, wrecking the room around it; and they can only hope that Diamond is home safe)
And he is thrown into Enchant's dimension, tears in his clothes, a body having been through terrible torment and a mind with not a single memory of it
Enchant asks for pictures
Every lesson that Diamond learned from Balance, from the war, from the loss- gone in an instant
He doesn't remember how Origin stole it all away.
He doesn't remember how Origin takes and tears away parts of himself, parts of his soul, remolds his mind like clay. Everything Diamond worked to, gone in an instant
And those same mistakes will repeat yet again.
