So in other words, tumblr architecture enforces this shit lmao. This just verifies my crackpot theory that Tumblr rots your brain unless you are self aware about it.
Also I'd like to add, tumblr's commenting system sucks! Character limit that they don't tell you about, every single time you want to reply to anybody you have to tag them, making that shit look messy. Also for the fact that it just shows comments out of order sometimes. If ordered by latest first, you'll see recent comments on top sometimes even if you shouldn't.
Fuck it, let me be unhinged on the last line:
Tumblr ontologically fucking sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Google+ was better!!!!!!!!!! the less this site acts like tumblr and more like good social media, the better!!!!!!!!
i think tumblr structurally encourages pissing on the poor
epistemic confidence: medium. (i always wanted to say that). this is amateur sociology and so should be taken with quite a bit of salt. this is absolutely a just-so story.
i think part of the reason tumblr and other similar social media websites have such a problem with misinterpretation is that conversational repair works differently than other forms of communication.
if you're talking in a group of people (over voice or over 'synchronous' communications like irc/discord that encourage short messages and paying attention) and someone responds in a way that indicates they misinterpreted you, you can interrupt them. and importantly, everyone else in the conversation hears you interrupting them. on a traditional forum with linear posts, you can't interrupt them, but anyone that reads all the posts (which, granted, isn't everyone) will eventually see your clarifying reply.
but on tumblr, if you make a post, X reblogs it with a misinterpretation, and you reply/reblog correcting X's interpretation, you have no way of notifying everyone that saw it from X; people generally don't go back and reread the notes on old posts, unlike forums where you'd typically read the threads you participate in. so the misinterpretation spreads.
and of course there's the whole 'screenshot this post to make fun of it' thing (which i'm not immune to, although i'm trying to do it less). it's obvious that screenshotting part of a post makes it even easier to misinterpret it, and i suspect that at this point for some people the mere presence of the "underwater" filter is enough to prime a "this is a bad opinion, i should disagree with it" reflex! and you can't go "hang on, that's not what i meant".
anyway. don't take this as like an iron law of social media or a thing that is definitely 100% true. but it's something i've been thinking about.
#nothing much to add but my venting senses saying I should. I'm holding it back for you OP‚ but am gonna do it in tags :3. Sovwy in advance#Fuck tumblr lmao. I genuinely feel like it's reblog structure is like a prison. The reasons are listed already in OP but gonna add more#Because tumblr reblogs 'add' to the post instead of being 'quote' in other social medias‚ it pushes agreement over contrarianism usually#That means the original idea/sentiment of a post get's boosted without it's ideas being challenged. That is bad epistemology#Nobody wants to be hit with the 'sorry my follower added that to your post' cake for even slight disagreements so better just parrot things#or they don't wanna get soft dogpiled by rando tumblr users so disagreements become minimal. It's why I think circlejerks happen much here#& let me tell you‚ that shit makes me MALD. People so smug here over “no algorithms 🥰” but really it's just that they socially enforce ...#... ideas through 'Tumblr culture' rather than the need for algorithms. Feels like a naturally enforced Hive mind at times 😡😡#Last thing: so other soc meds posting works like a nested function (quotes) while tumblr's reblogs function like a 'newline' script#and if you add to that script and people don't like it‚ they think you're ruining the script. So your part of the project gets cut/ignored#rant done 👍#Actually fuck it still angry that someone came up with this post before me#I've been making meta posts for months now and I was planning to make that great meta posts that discusses how the architecture affects...#... behavior here. Mad because I consider myself a tumblr outsider and I feel like the perfect person to make it‚ not a tumblr regular 😡#I realise this makes me look so unhinged 😔😔😔 but I don't care. Rant officially done 👍👍#OP Please don't block me for this‚ I am agreeing with you here mostly. I just tend to be very weird/passionate about this topic

I made a semi controversial post when I was half asleep (i’ve had strep throat all week as well, my brain hasn’t been functioning right) and I feel like I sorta went off on someone. Can you read the post please? -🙄🩴
Hello anon! I hope you're feeling better and read the post. I hope it was the right one based on this response.
Long reply ahead under the cut!
There's going to be mentions of n.oncon, violence, i.ncest and just me ranting(?) I guess on the yandere trope/definition. I mentioned dark content as well. Just to give anyone a heads up.
First and foremost! No one is responsible for your internet experience! You curate it yourself. I understand some people might not tag things correctly/put enough warnings ahead of time BUT it is easy to avoid reading such works and/or leave and move on without hating on what someone writes. I understand OP's frustrations, but they have no right to shit on other writers who do explicit n.noncon/violence for yandere. If someone didn't add proper tags/warnings, please just ask the author/creators politely to do so.
I, as a person who writes for yandere, am not comfortable with writing anything too explicit in terms of violence/n.oncon. However, I know that I can simply block tags or avoid posts that do have such. I will not ridicule others who write stuff like that. I will also state that no matter how a yandere I write off as, they will still love their darling regardless because that's the point of yandere. One thing I've noticed is that yandere does fall into the dark content category of writing, so it should be expected to see such things. Also, I'm a little iffy on seeing yandere as a romantic trope,,, it's always supposed to be seen as unhealthy since the meaning of the word does include mentally sick. If it's a one sided thing and/or the darling develops Stockholm Syndrome at some point, it's all well and good to me. Also OP stated how the yandere would just then be a sadist with how much they hurt their darling... Uh, Sadistic Yanderes are a thing,,,
OP's rant just made me think, "So, you'd rather read more soft yandere stuff? Because people do write for that." I have a mixed relationship with soft yandere stuff,,, but I won't get into here.
Also, I will sometimes read various writings of yandere content that leans towards more explicit stuff and hey, it's absolutely wonderful writing if they manage to make me feel a vast set of emotions. If I were to get to the point of getting uncomfortable with what I'm reading, I simply read. Same with dark content (I won't say what I have read because people might judge since it be like that, but I just want to clarify that just because someone reads/writes/enjoys some of the stuff in dark content such as i.ncest, n.oncon, violence that doesn't mean they condone them in real life).
When reading OP's definition of a yandere... It reads to me as too surface level or the typical cliche trope most people (especially non anime/yandere readers or writers) would see it as. However, it's not that simple of a definition due to how significantly different each character can be. That definition wouldn't be able to fit with all characters. I don't know if the OP knows this, but there are different types of yanderes (categories of them). It's mostly to range between what sort of category in treatment towards their darling they'd fit in solely based on things in a character like: personality, beliefs, backstory/experiences, and relationships. I always do this for my general headcanons because it gives good analysis because,,, I lowkey hate that basic definition of a yandere. Not all characters who will be a yandere will act like that,,, (also side note: I absolutely hate Yuno Gasai from the bottom of my heart and she's basically the textbook/cliche example of the yandere trope that everyone thinks of,,,)
Which anon, I completely agree with using aspects of characters to write off how'd they be like as a yandere. It'd be too straightforward if a character just suddenly goes I love this person and will kill off anyone who breaths within their range. It will sometimes be too uncharacteristic with who you're writing as a yandere. Also a little too repetitive if everyone decided to write all characters like this. That is only my opinion but it'd boring as someone who enjoys analyzing characters based on experiences and such. Also, as I've mentioned before, I always try to show/hint that the yandere despite anything they do, wholeheartedly loves their darling. But you know, in the sickest and most twisted of ways that it's consider unhealthy and completely immoral. That's the whole point of yandere, in my opinion; it shouldn't be something someone should pursue and be seen as what a relationship shouldn't be.

Tumblr media
MOBILE RULES!
1.   Don’t send anon hate.
I’m not gonna waste time answering it. Anonymous messages have been turned off. If you want me to answer something anonymously, like for a sideblog or a prompt, mention it. I repost asks because I dont like the auto-formatting tumblr does, so I'll @ mention the blog requested.
2.   Be patient.
I am an adult with a 50+ hour job. I’ll be creeping mostly on the dash, but I will not always have internet/energy for replies. I also bounce from a few different blogs here and there.
 3.   Don’t god mod/metagame.
It’s no fun when a muse wins 100% of fights 100% of the time. Jason is a bit OP, but I balance him as best I can, and I ask you the same courtesy.
 4.   Take responsibility for your muse’s actions.
Jason is a feral animal of a man. He may be a protagonist, but he is no hero. Please give me the respect of not getting mad when my muse tries to murder yours if he perceives them as a threat. You piss him off, and he WILL leave a mark. No if’s, and’s, or but’s. Don’t follow me if you let your muses poke the bear and don’t like when they get mauled.
5.   Triggering topics will be present.
Including but not limited to gore, blood, abuse, torture, violence, murder, and crime. I may not do much smut rp, however I tag common triggers. If smut is ever to happen, it will likely be in private / in a discord / fade to black.
I do not have triggers, so go nuts! Just be courteous and tag common triggers so others can avoid it easier.
 6.   Don’t force ships.
Most ships hit me like a bus out of nowhere. If you ship something, LET ME KNOW! I might ship it too!
 7.   Don’t block evade.
If I block you, it’s for a reason. If you have earned a block, which is nigh impossible from me, you have spent a long time earning it. I give second, third, tenth chances. But they are not infinite. I’m a forgiving person, however I have limits. Do NOT abuse anon for this purpose, no exceptions. I do not soft block, tumblr glitches too much for it to be viable communication. Anon is for people who follow my rules and roleplay ONLY.
8.   Communication is key.
If I offend you, trigger you, or otherwise make you uncomfortable with a reply, I can and will delete or change it at your request. It is not my intention to hurt anyone. This does not cancel out rule 7. Use common sense.
 9.   REBLOG FROM THE SOURCE.
This is more of a preference, but if you have good manners, reblog from the source and leave me out of the notifications loophole.
10. I am an adult, (26 as of 2024) and I may not write with you if you're not 18.
I may be picky with those under 18, and Far Cry is a game franchise for mature audiences.
11. Don’t be a dick.
Pretty self explanatory.
12. If I have not sent in a rules password and you require me to do so, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I ALWAYS read rules before following/interacting with people, however adhd brain go BRR and I can get sidetracked within the blink of an eye. I don't have one myself, but by clicking the follow button, you can assume I have already read your rules and agree to them. I ALWAYS read rules before following.
Thank you for reading! I don't have a rules password, carry on ^__^b
