Just curious...could this Sussex Squad thing turn into a legal investigation (if it's not already)? And what crimes would they be arrested for and what is the penalty?!??
The "general" stuff they do (for lack of a better word), like spread rumors about the Waleses and bully Kate's fans on social media, there's not a whole lot there. It's just seen as "coming with the territory" (also for lack of a better phrase).
Where the Sussex Squad could get into legal trouble is if or when they go after single accounts - doxxing them, dogpiling them, or escalating to death threats (or r*pe threats, threats of violence, etc.). All of that could qualify as stalking, intimidating, harassment, or incitement for violence for which there could be criminal charges levied. Depending on the severity and the jurisdiction, the penalty could range from slap-on-the-wrist fines to jail time.
Where it gets complicated is who reports these incidents and what kind of evidence or investigation there is to support the complaint. Usually the victim of a cyber crime has to report the incident (vs a bystander witness) and usually the onus on providing evidence to prove there's a case is on the victim - in most cases, the investigator (police, FBI, DHS, a lawyer) won't open a case unless the victim provides enough evidence to make it worth their time; screenshots of messages and usernames or phone numbers, IP addresses, voicemails, voice recordings. Which really sucks, but that's the grey area in a lot of cyber crime where the policies and practices are still being developed.
So for example, when Yankee Wally was doxxed and bullied off Twitter, only Yankee Wally could have reported the cyberbullying, the cyber harassment, the cyber stalking/intimidation and she would have had to provide evidence - e.g., screenshots of the tweets and the usernames/accounts who were harassing her. The rest of us wouldn't have been able to "call it in" for her. We could've helped take screenshots of any public messages she received or any posts/websites we saw where her PII published, but we most likely wouldn't have been able to report it to the FBI and have it taken seriously.
Which is why if you're ever the victim of a cyberbullying campaign, a doxxing, online harassment, it's super important you document everything. Take screenshots of all the messages you get (or see) and make sure all the identifying information is there like timestamps, usernames, account handles, and phone numbers. If you know how to get someone's IP address, grab that too. Save any voicemails or voice messages you get. If you answer a call that turns out to be harassment, document as much as you can; the number they called from, what time, what their voice sounded like, what they said. Have physical copies (printouts), electronic copies (screenshots), and backup copies.
If this is happening to you and you receive packages or letters in the mail from addresses you don't recognize, that are unusually heavy, or are leaking some kind of fluid/grease, don't open them, don't bring them inside, don't let children or pets near. Call the police to report it and follow their instructions about what to do.

Hi! 3, 13, 15, and 22 for the snape asks?
3. Do you consider Lily a good friend?
I don't think we know enough about Lily to consider her a good friend or otherwise (side eyeing JKR for all her flatly written female characters, but especially for throwing any hope of character development for Lily under the bus for the sake of the big reveal at the end of DH). What I do think of Lily is that when she and Snape were friends they were very young. They were only 15, maybe 16, when their friendship ended. You're still figuring out who you are at that age, and friendships often fall apart then. Sometimes they heal, sometimes they don't. I had two friendships come apart at the seams when I was 16; one never recovered, and the other did and ended up becoming stronger and we're still very close.
I think Lily didn't understand what Snape was dealing with at home and at school, and wouldn't have had the emotional intelligence to, at that age. That isn't to say 16 year olds aren't emotionally intelligent by any means! Rather that, at that age you're still learning about the world, about yourself, and if you haven't experienced abuse then it's really really hard to understand it. Even kids that age who are experiencing abuse don't really understand it yet. It takes years to process and really comprehend how abuse works, how and why it's insidious, and what it does to a person. It says a lot that before it was revealed on Pottermore that Snape's dad beat him with a belt, there were people who read about his dad shouting a lot and understood the allusion to abuse, and others who read it to mean his dad was just cranky.
Abuse gets downplayed easily and often, sometimes even by the people suffering from it. I don't think Lily had the ability to be the friend Snape needed; I don't think anyone did. And he certainly didn't know what he needed from a friend either. The two of them were also of an era when the understanding of a home life like Snape's wasn't, "that man is terrible, he hits his son" but rather "behave yourself and don't anger your father, you know how he gets." In other words, there was a lot more victim blaming. The same goes for being bullied at school, especially at a British school. The mantra was "keep your head down and don't let them know they're getting to you and maybe they'll leave you alone," whereas now the onus is on bullies to stop their behavior.
As little as we know about Lily, I don't think she was a bad friend to Snape, she just didn't know what he needed, or what danger he was in from radicalization. What we can infer from the books, though, is that she defended him to her friends for some time and stayed his friend even when her other friends tried to dissuade her, so there must have been a good amount of affection there. I think the anger we see her show him is more about a feeling of disappointment or betrayal than any kind of hatred. The way she stands up to James, even though it has an element of sexual tension between the two of them, also speaks to a fierce loyalty with which she defends her friend. It seems like there was probably tension between Lily and Snape by then, since he lashes out at her and their subsequent argument has a very "the last straw" vibe, but that loyalty, and the love underlying it, is there.
13. How do you think Snape treats his own House?
I think he treats them like every other Hogwarts teacher treats theirs. We're told by Harry in the books that he gives his house preferential treatment, and he hears this from one of the Weasley brothers when he arrives at Hogwarts, but we mostly see Snape give Malfoy preferential treatment, not his whole house. Even when he gives the Slytherins that note that they can use the Quidditch pitch to practice, it's because Malfoy is on the team. This can be for a number of reasons, but likely because of his personal relationship with Lucius Malfoy and the latter's extent of influence (which can go both ways - people like that can make your life much easier and more comfortable, but can also ruin it if you anger them, especially if they have direct power over you such as being on the board of governors of the school you teach at and having a personal relationship with high ranking government officials).
Giving his house team permission to practice on the pitch is also a much less consequential move than McGonagall bending school rules so Harry can play on his house team as a first year AND get a free broomstick (an expensive one at that, when the school has a set of brooms already that he could have borrowed - and we know from PoA that he could have just ordered one for himself). Snape doesn't hand out praise to Slytherins, he's just more likely to overlook their mistakes. But again, we see this through Harry's biased lens - and he's always in class with Neville, who melts so many cauldrons and explodes so many potions that he shouldn't be allowed into class without a fire extinguisher strapped to him.
Overall I think Snape is a generally strict teacher. As has been pointed out by others, he never awards points, he only deducts them, yet his house won the house cup for something like six years in a row before Harry came along. Every Hogwarts teacher favors their own house in one way or another, Snape is just cast in a bad light because our narrator is Harry and he sure is biased.
15. If he’d lived, how do you think he would have gone on with his life?
I answered this a few months ago apparently, here. Tl;dr he would have led a quiet life developing cures at St. Mungo's - it would have allowed him to indulge his intellectual curiosity, have status, and assuage his guilt since he would be helping people.
22. If someone put a gun to Snape’s head and told him to pick a favorite out of the Golden Trio, who do you think he’d pick?
Someone else just asked this one too! I answered it here.

Ok but Please what’s YOUR Favorite (good) things about Remus lupin?
Oh anon. Get ready for an essay, because my love for Remus Lupin knows no bounds.
He is generous. Ex: he gives Harry & co chocolate right away. Yes, he's poor and shabby, but he shares what little he has. He is constantly sharing himself and his talents with others, even when he has nothing.
He's clever and witty. He was part of the gang making the Marauder's Map, he liked a good prank, and look at how he was with Peeves in PoA - sending him off like it was nothing and Dean thinking it was so cool.
He's got some darkness. I do think this is a good thing, actually, because it often comes out with righteous anger. Remus is a sad man, given the shitty hand he got in life, and that does come out as anger. Think of the time he tried to kill Wormtail - 'goodbye, Peter.' was his last line to Peter before he almost killed him. I mean, c'mon. Polite 100%. Appropriate 100%. Devastating 100%. I love that so much.
He's a good teacher. I think it speaks volumes that Harry & co, the Weasleys, Dean, and so many others are quick to defend him. He had a unique teaching style and the obstacle course at the end of PoA was brilliant. It was clear he loved what he did and he was good at it.
He's a good listener. I like that with Harry, he does often resort to questions like 'is that so?' 'do you really think that?' which is a Socratic method of teaching. I am biased, because this is actually how I teach, by asking questions and seeing what students think, correcting them along the way when they need help. I love that Remus teaches this way, even when he's not formally their professor anymore.
But, what I love MOST about Remus Lupin is how deeply loving he is. He's not perfect at loving and the way he shows love is often backwards and stupid, but he loves SO much. You might say it was ridiculous that he didn't see Harry in canon before PoA, but think about it: he's a werewolf who has nothing. Compared to the Dursleys who live in a nice house, in what world would Remus even think he could be better? It's possible he did check on Harry but maybe got turned away by Petunia. By the time of PoA-HBP, yes, the onus is more on him to try for a relationship with Harry, but with Sirius in the picture for most of it, maybe he didn't want to step on any toes. Yes, he could've done better but he kept a distance, thinking it was best for Harry. That doesn't even scratch the surface of how he was with Tonks.
Remus and his love for Tonks. I have written so much fanfic of these two, so I'll let those words speak for themselves in some ways, but what I love about the way Remus loves Tonks is that it's so profound, so life-changing, and so devastating is that he's willing to walk to his death to keep her from the challenges of loving a werewolf. It's totally true that Remus took away some of her agency here, thinking he knew better, and that's a flaw. But to understand Remus and the way he loves, just look at the way he was with Tonks. In OoTP you can see some gentle teasing. If you see Lupin, most of the time you see Tonks. In HBP, they're both hot messes. In DH, it starts precariously and ends in tragedy, but not without the biggest moment of happiness with Teddy. Every single one of those things was his way of expressing love. Gentle teasing and friendship - he was probably flirting with her without realizing it and she returned it right back (he was clueless or in denial). Leaving her in HBP - the man probably half-starved himself, slept outside, and suffered just so he could give Tonks an out. What kind of person does that? The kind of person who loves so much, so profoundly, that they are willing to endure whatever it takes for the betterment of another. Flawed and stupidly noble, yes. But at the end of the day, the total suffering he endures in HBP is not necessarily for the Order or for the war, but for Tonks, to give her a chance to break free. Even his abandonment of Tonks when she's pregnant is him trying (and failing) to show her and their baby how much he cares. He's so broken that he thinks they're better off without him. He leaves because he's so concerned for their safety and well being that he thinks he's better off on a death adventure tour than with his wife. I mean, look at the way he announces himself when he gets to Grimmauld Place. He includes, as part of his self-identification, that he is Nymphadora's husband, and she likes to be called Tonks. Even when he's left her, he is like THAT'S MY WIFE. Even when he's ready to go on a death tour with Harry & co, he's got Tonks at the forefront of his mind because she is his wife and he loves her. Of course he comes back to her, thanks to Harry setting him straight (again, good listener). And when Teddy is born you see how Remus has been changed and grown - he's so stupidly happy that he's got a family. That they love him. That his son is healthy. That he's gotten everything he ever wanted, a family.
Of all the things to love about Remus Lupin, it's his profound capacity for love and how he shows it. It's not perfect and it's often so stupid and backwards that you want to punch him, but from his POV it's the highest form of love. It's self-sacrifice to the point of being willing to die so that others have a better life.

I’m the anon who asked about the SATVB openers looking for work post-tour 🙋♀️
I actually work in the music industry and honestly that’s very normal for newer/smaller/up-and-coming bands like been stellar to pick up “regular” jobs in between tours. Kinda unfortunate but just the reality of touring post-Covid. Things have gotten so expensive and even bigger bands are hardly making profits from shows, especially considering how many people/staff they have to pay for touring, production, etc. And most of it is Ticketmaster/venues that are making the profits (ik we all know this lol).
Especially considering that been stellar is relatively new (I think? Honestly I don’t know much about them/their history) some bands will offer to take a pay cut to support a larger act/tour because the exposure may benefit them more in the long run. Considering the success of ATVB/SATVB, how viral the tour went, and (in all honesty) the attention Matty’s had in the past year — I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. That would be at the band’s/their managers decision to take a pay cut for exposure (although they’re signed DH I doubt jamie o is their manager but I don’t really know haha).
Ik it sucks but more musicians/artists/creatives do precarious work in between gigs to make ends meet than you think 🤷♀️. lol I mean think of how many famous pop stars who own brands/take tv gigs and don’t tour anymore (not saying theyre struggling for money but touring is hard and not as profitable as it used to be). Especially considering DH is an indie label, these newer artists aren’t signing massive deals that’ll allow them to live in mansions and stuff lol. It’s the reality of the industry but who doesn’t have a side gig these days the way the economy is rn haha
So I wouldn’t necessarily say DH is a bad label (I honestly don’t know — theyve produced many successful acts & every label/business has drama behind the scenes). But even if they were a bad label, the onus isn’t necessarily on the label for what they get paid for touring.
Not trying to start any drama or ramble too much lol! Ik this convo started bc of the current Rina drama which really intrigues me.
Wow and I thought the publishing industry was bad. This fuckin sucks. Can artists not make art anymore. I figured since it’s not their own lil tour and it’s supporting a much bigger artist it would pay better.
Idk. DH definitely needs to do more to at least promote their people. Their posts are hit or miss like it’s not consistent but I don’t know what their deal is. They’ve signed some amazing artists they should back them more. Just feel bad for the guy like he just came off tour he should at least have some wiggle room. Ugh creativity never pays under capitalism.

I'm about ten per cent of the way through the Robodebt report (it's over a thousand pages including appendices) so I might just queue excerpts as I go. This bit has some editorial bolding.
Chapter 2:
(part 2) At the time the Scheme was developed into an NPP [New Policy Proposal], approved by Cabinet, and announced as an element of a Budget measure, DSS [the Department of Social Services] already had advice that concluded that the Scheme, as it was introduced, was contrary to policy, and was unlawful.
(part 3) The environment in which the development of what would become the Scheme occurred was fraught. It was characterised by a powerful drive for savings, strongly expressed ministerial policy positions, cultural conflicts on an inter and intra-departmental level and intense pressure experienced by public servants, including those in positions of seniority. It was not an environment which was conducive to instances of careful consideration, well-reasoned decision making, and proper scrutiny and supervision.
Chapter 3:
(part 3) While DHS [the Department of Human Services] continued to work on the proposal, the reaction to the concept within DSS [the Department of Social Services] was negative, to say the least. In oral evidence, Mr Brown [director of the Payment Integrity and Debt section] said that “almost immediately”, his team recognised that the proposal was inconsistent with the legislative requirement that social security entitlement be based on fortnightly income. In his mind, the proposal involved what he described as “speculative invoicing”, by which (he explained) he meant speculatively asserting en masse the existence of debts owed by social security recipients who then had the options of accepting the existence of the asserted debts or assuming the onus of disproving them. He noted the difficulties that social security recipients, who included very vulnerable cohorts, would have in disputing the asserted debts, particularly where they related to periods of time years before. This, he expected, would result in social security recipients entering into agreements to repay debts that they did not owe. He had no doubt that the proposal was unethical.
Chapter 3 (continued):
(part 3) The reasoning set out in the email was not complex. It did not rely on obscure principles of law or use dense language. It simply identified that the legislative requirement for entitlement based on fortnightly income could not be met because “smoothing” (that is, averaging) might not correctly identify the amount of income a social security recipient earned or received in each fortnight under consideration. The use of income averaging, as was being proposed by DHS, was unlawful. […] There is no clear evidence that the conclusions in the 2014 DSS policy and legal advices were communicated to DHS at this time; certainly the advices themselves do not appear to have been passed on. Mr Kimber had referred in his 12 November email to Ms Wilson to letting DHS know of the outcome once the final legal advice had arrived. Mr Jones thought the information would have been passed on, possibly by email, although none has come to light. He could not remember if he made a telephone call to let DHS know that DSS did not support the proposal on either a legal or policy basis. While it seems likely that DSS would pass the effect of the advices on to DHS, it is possible that Christmas 2014 overtook the intention to do so and it was forgotten by the new year.

Have You Spoken to a Russian Speaking Immigration Attorney in Los Angeles?
If you’re from Russia and have been detained at a port of entry, or wish to seek asylum in California in the U.S., you probably have several questions – questions that only a lawyer can answer. That is why, when you find yourself in this situation, it is important to seek legal counsel through a Russian-speaking immigration attorney in Los Angeles. How a Russian Speaking Immigration Attorney in Los Angeles Can Help You Seeking Russian asylum is not a simple process. It is both complicated and involved. Therefore, you need to speak to an attorney who speaks both Russian and English – someone who understands your concerns and what you’re up against. You Can Ask for Asylum in One of Three Ways Lawyers can help you gain asylum by following one of three processes. These methods for application fall under an affirmative, defensive, or expedited procedure. Let’s look at how these processes differ. 1. Affirmative Asylum A person who is not in removal proceedings, or an individual who is classified as an “unaccompanied child,” if in removal proceedings, may request affirmative asylum through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This division is part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If the USCIS denies the asylee’s application, their case is transferred to removal proceedings in the immigration court. If this happens, they can reapply for asylum using the defensive process. 2. Defensive Asylum When a person is facing removal proceedings, they can apply for defensive asylum. This claim is made to an immigration judge in the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), a part of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). To avoid being removed, asylum using the defensive method may be granted. Therefore, it’s important to work with a Russian-speaking immigration attorney in Los Angeles, as the EOIR will not appoint counsel if you don’t have legal support. 3. Expedited Asylum Starting in 2022, a new process, expedited asylum, allows a USCIS officer to review and decide on an asylum claim before the applicant is required to go through formal removal proceedings. The expedited process applies to individuals detained within 14 days of U.S. entry. Those who seek Russian asylum through this process, and who are turned down, are sent to the immigration court for removal proceedings In general, anyone seeking asylum who arrives at a point of entry or enters the country unchecked must use the defensive or expedited asylum process. An applicant for asylum must be present, in person, at a U.S. port of entry to take advantage of any of the three application processes. The onus is on the asylum seeker, with or without legal representation, to demonstrate that they fit the criteria for being considered an asylee. Therefore, an individual seeking asylum must show that they either previously experienced persecution or that they currently have a “well-founded fear” of persecution in their native country. The decision of a person’s eligibility for asylum frequently depends on this crucial piece of evidence. Factors that Prevent People from Obtaining Asylum Some factors may prevent Russian immigrants from receiving asylum. Failing to Meet the Deadline Those who fail to request asylum within a year of entering the United States will not be eligible for the protection. In 2018, a federal district court stated that the DHS must inform applicants of the one-year deadline when entering the U.S. Threats to National Security Similar restrictions apply to applicants that the U.S. determines to be a threat to national security – who have committed a “very serious crime,” or who have, themselves, persecuted others. Events that Lead to Delays in Processing Applications You need to make sure you follow all the rules when submitting an application for asylum in the U.S. Otherwise, you can experience delays in what can prove to be a lengthy process. For example, the following events can prevent you from getting approved in a timely manner: Requesting the transfer of a case to another asylum office or interview site. Asking for a later interview time. Not appearing at a biometrics appointment or scheduled interview. Failing to have an interpreter (if required) at a scheduled interview. Not providing enough evidence to support an application. Submitting a large amount of evidence right before a rescheduled interview. Failing to appear in person (if required) for an asylum decision. If you are required to acknowledge an asylum decision in person, and you don’t appear, it may lead to problems with receiving an employment authorization card to work in the U.S. Therefore, hiring an attorney can help you prevent a lot of problems with respect to filing and receiving sanctions for living and working in the U.S. Speak to a Russian Speaking Immigration Attorney in Los Angeles Right Away Are you from Russia? YEP. It's such a massive storytelling failure in so many ways. The point of Harry snooping in the pensieve is to show his out of character recklessness (because he spends most of OOtP feeling Voldemort's feelings next to his own and the line between adolescent angst and being influenced by a psychopathic evil wizard is deliberately blurred). It also serves to sever the mutual respect he and Snape barely begin building with each other in a way that puts the onus of guilt onto Harry. It's crucial that he accesses these memories through a violation of Snape's boundaries, not as an act of self-defense. It also adds to his own guilt after witnessing what he does in the pensieve, because he not only relates to Snape's experience of bullying at Harry's father's and his friends' (who are also father figures to Harry) hands, but he then realizes how much more similar Snape is to himself. The subtext is that Harry's guilt also stems from the realization that he saw this memory because he dismissed Snape's right to basic respect based on his personal feelings towards him, which is what his own father did to Snape and look what that led to.
Even if there's an issue of narrative structure to be solved, ie. that a film works differently than a book and it may not serve the rhythm of visual storytelling to have more than one Occlumency lesson show in detail, Snape's reaction to Harry seeing his worst memory is a crucial plot point. Kloves, who wrote this script probably 2 years before the book of Deathy Hallows came out, should have been able to pick up on this even without having read the pensieve scenes at the end of DH. Snape's reaction to Harry snooping on his memories in the book of OOtP is very intense; he throws Harry out, ends Occlumency lessons, and throws a jar at the wall as Harry bolts out the door. As someone whose job it is to understand these things, Kloves should have picked up on the fact that Snape is an important character with great narrative significance, and if he has an intense response to something that probably signifies it's important to the story, because it happens rarely and when it does it's to highlight or foreshadow something. He also would have had the option to speak with Rowling and ask if specific moments may have relevance later, even if she wasn't going to give him details on why or why not.
It was important for Harry to see SWM in the context of it being a violation of Snape's privacy because it affects the relationship between these two characters. Similarly, it was important for Lily to be a part of that memory and for Snape to call her a mudblood, because we will later learn that it was this act that made it Snape's worst memory, and not the extremity of bullying and sexual assault he experienced. The most significant plot point in all of this, that Snape held himself accountable for losing Lily's friendship, is nonexistent in the films. Lily is not present in SWM, which there's no flashback to in the pensieve at the end of DH, so there's also no moment between a 5th year Lily and Snape where she pushes him away and ends their friendship. The entire relationship between two prominent characters, as well as the plot points built on it, just don't exist in the films. Which is why I refuse to accept the films as canon; not just because they weren't written by Rowling, who built the HP world for better or worse, but because the films are a sloppy, half-baked reconstruction of the subjective reading of mostly one person who translates them to film based on a checklist of plot points instead of an understanding of themes, metaphors, never mind story and character arcs.
i know there were a million things the movies got wrong, but i will forever feel slighted that we didn’t get little snape with dirt on his face in obvious hand-me-downs
