Tales of the Reluctant Kazama Bitch Part 2: Edo Blossoms!

We left our would-be heroine galloping across the country, desperately clinging to the man who's repeatedly threatened to kidnap and impregnate her. However, all of this ickyness is forgotten in the face of a greater threat: her creepy brother and stepdad, who want to turn everyone into shitty vampires.

Chapter 1:

Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms Part 9 - Souma Kazue Route

It’s saddening to see Souma pressure and strain himself so much by training day and night hoping to improve his swordsmanship so that Yamazaki and Gen’s deaths won’t be in vain, and so that he’ll truly be able to protect Chizuru and Kondou. I hope he doesn’t collapse. On the other hand, Miki’s new clothes and hair looks pretty good! He’s like a pretty boy lol, a pretty crazy boy I guess haha. Not surprised he intercepted Souma and them when they were escaping from the fight at Kofu castle since he’s aiming for Kondou but dang, he’s got an army with him… Thankfully Amagiri came and saved them! But it seems that they’re not out of danger yet, since the Imperial army found their hideout and are planning to root them all out. It’s kinda difficult to have to personally watch this part where Kondou decides to surrender himself to them so that everyone else can escape. He’s basically sacrificing himself because really, how hard would it be for them to realise who he actually is… It’s saddening that Nomura is staying with Kondou to act as his retainer since Kondou is pretending to be a hatamoto stationed at a nearby town.. Knowing that they’ll both probably die is so saddening… Like, I do want to see how everything unfolds on Kondou’s side, but dang does Chizuru seem like such trouble LOL. She and Souma split up with Hijikata to escape easier, but then they kinda get discovered so Souma distracts the soldiers so she can escape, but no, she slips or whatever and falls right back to where the mansion they just escaped from was, and now she’s with Kondou and Nomura again lmao. I don’t know whether to think it’s silly or funny lol.

Nice to see Souma come to save them, so cute when he blushed at Chizuru saying she knew he’d come. Knowing that Kondou decided to stay captive until his death to allow Chizuru, Souma and Nomura a higher chance to escape was pretty disheartening, especially since they were in hiding and didn’t find out until after his death that he had actually been beheaded and that they had hung his head out in a way to shame him and deter others, it’s just so disgusting…😫 I thought them running into Ibuki was a blessing, but then realising that them meeting Harada there and him using himself as a distraction for the rest of them to escape since he’s injured and wants to be useful one last time makes it so hard to think of it as something good… It doesn’t seem like a fatal injury so he should just lie low and recover! But I guess he knows that this is a very important time for everyone so he wants to do what he can no matter what….but still..! It was so tough seeing Souma lament over how he is the one who has survived at the expense of other people’s lives when he thinks that the others are so much more useful than him. It’s so tormenting to hear him in such agony, especially when he swore to protect Kondou and yet Kondou gave his life to protect them instead… I guess the only thing that saved him a little bit was Chizuru telling him that she’s glad he’s alive and with her, and that she’s worse since so many people died to protect her when others came for her, which is true lol. Omggg, I was so glad when Heisuke appeared saving them from a pack of Furies, I was so worried that Okita was going to sacrifice his life too, like I know he’s dying already, but dying by the hand of Furies is absolutely terrible.

I’m glad he encountered Saito (even though he just missed Hijikata again on their journey to delivering the sword representing rebirth of the Shinsengumi given by Kondou to Hijikata) and Saito questioned whether he was really ready to stay here and die with the Aizu men when he has things he still must do. Everyone is fighting a losing battle, they all know they have lost all chances of winning, they know that they’re probably gonna die, but somehow seeing everyone so fearless, so unperturbed, and so determined to see their cause and their beliefs to the end even with death looming over them just makes it seem so admirable and yet so saddening. Hijikata hasn’t exactly given up since he’s still trying to talk to people for support but I’m sure he’s the most aware of how dire the situation is for them. And everything just became even more disconcerting after meeting up with Hijikata who has had his negotiations stalled as he brings the news that Okita, Sanan and Heisuke died at the hands of the new Furies Chizuru’s father created… Why is that every step they take, more and more lives are perishing? Will going to Ezo be the last hope that might bring something about?

It was so sweet that Hijikata arranged Souma and Chizuru to be working in close proximity (with her being his Page) because he knew that she only came to Ezo because she loves him and wants to be beside him and support him. Hijikata is such a bro🥰☺️ Omggg when Hijikata was so frank and legit just asked Souma how he felt about her in front of her and demanded he give a proper answer. The good thing is that Hijikata is observant and could tell from their reunion that just as Chizuru had grown fond of him, he did as well considering how soft he has become for and towards her. Why you so cool Hijikata?! I’m glad he’s being pushy about it since they’re both obviously being quiet and wishy washy about whether this is the time to talk about romance when there’s a war, but seriously, if this isn’t the time, when is the time?!? Who knows if you guys will even survive until the next day! Lmao when everyone was eavesdropping on his confession and loll at Iba threatening that if he doesn’t treat her well, Souma will have to answer to him. I love how everyone is teasing them and their relationship, it’s really nice to see something positive come out of all the negative that has happened. Aww, so cute and innocent when they were about to kiss since Chizuru gave him her permission but he was too embarrassed and his heart couldn’t handle it hahaha. It’s just saddening that right after this sweet moment, Kazama comes along😔 Ooh, so they actually came to like “rescue” her because they and Sen wanted to know whether she was really in this hopeless place of death of her own will, but seeing her willing to bite her tongue and kill herself than go along with them shows her resolve to stay with Souma no matter what. Didn’t realise that Kodo actually got killed by the Shinsengumi Fury corps though.

Omg! I honestly didn’t think Nomura wouldn’t make it back when they went to try and get an ironclad from the Imperial army…. I thought they would lose but I didn’t think they’d lose him too… He and everyone was so confident when they left to fight….I was kinda annoyed when Chizuru made Souma recap what happened in the middle of the night when she couldn’t sleep, like give the guy a break! But I guess maybe it would help relieve him a bit by talking about it. Anyway, it seems things just weren’t on their side, whether it be the bad weather or their people and resources. Nomura was the first group to charge on to the ship and thus the first to experience and die by the hands of the Gatling gun. Even though he took some soldiers with him, it was futile against them all. Seeing Souma want to save Nomura by lowering a rope to him but he severed it because he knew he wouldn’t make it back and didn’t want Souma to die in vain with him just made my heart broke, I just couldn’t stop crying over it. Only Hijikata and Souma are alive now…😭😭😭🤧 Or not. Right after Hijikata discharged Souma and told him to live a life with Chizuru instead of wasting it here in death alongside him since most people are thinking of just surrendering, and Hijikata could only continue to do what he could since he can’t surrender when he considers all the people that died following him and the ones that are still alive that would rather die than surrender. The only happy thing is that in his dying moments (Hijikata was ambushed by artillery😢) he got to see Souma and hand the Makoto flag to him so he could keep the Shinsengumi spirit alive.

I was wondering when Miki was going to appear, but at the same time, I kinda wondered if there was any point for Miki anymore, and just as I thought that, it seemed he really didn’t feel like there was any point to life anymore since most of the Shinsengumi who caused his brother’s death and him to be discarded by the army were dead and there was no meaning to anything anymore. The only things left for people like him and Souma who are now remnants of this war is really just to see what the world has become and will become after all their fighting and all those lives that were lost. In the end, was everything they fought for useless? Is this outcome good? I feel like at the same time, it’s kinda their responsibility now to see everything to the end and see what the future holds now after the war.

With the war having ended, Souma has decided to surrender on behalf of the Shinsengumi as the new chief and thus leaving his life to the Imperial army to decide as to his fate… I’m surprised that Souma only had to go to a secluded island for 3 years, I really thought they’d make him stay there forever. Nice to know that Chizuru waited for him whilst studying medicine under Dr Matsumoto, it may have been hard but it’s nice to know she did something she would have enjoyed doing whilst waiting. Something Souma would be proud of since he did what he did to protect the rest of the Shinsengumi and she continued to save others with her skills. The first three endings were actually kind of different and I think it could have been quite interesting if they could expand on them, well mainly the second and third since the first one was just her dying together with Souma, which would have happened technically if they weren’t saved. But the second where she was captured by Miki back to her father, well I guess that’s kinda typical as well if I think about it, since then she’ll just be used for more experiments etc as her father wanted. Third might not exactly be a bad ending though since she got taken back to the Demons by Kazama, so if she got to see Sen, I’d assume she’d still get a pretty nice life, it would just be without Souma lol. Kinda interesting that in one ending she was able to actually kill Miki when he got close enough stabbing her to death, she was able to avenge Hijikata and Souma and prevent him from taking their heads back as a prize so I guess although they all died, at least they weren’t shamed like that by Miki. That unrequited love ending was so disappointing though, usually it has the most effort put into it but dang was it basic. He just told her to live her life without him since he’s basically going to prison and she accepts it but wastes her life away by living in her idyllic fantasy. It wasn’t really sad nor bittersweet, I just felt so…apathetic towards it tbh.

Overall, I really enjoyed Souma’s route. I really did. But I think if you’re someone who likes a lot of romance, you won’t enjoy it as much because I really think the romance is shoved to the side for this one, but I also kind of think it’s understandable because of how Souma is and how the story was conveyed. Souma’s story is deeply rooted and engrossed into embellishing the spirit of the Shinsengumi and their beliefs. You as the reader grow alongside Souma to understanding and also mentally fighting for the Shinsengumi’s beliefs and honour, hoping to develop the new tomorrow they wanted, so obviously in hindsight of all the important things they’re doing for the war and for the future, romance would not be as important or relevant to their lives when they have more important things to think about, and that was fine with me, because I really thought the message of the Shinsengumi was brought out really well, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was a part of them and wanted them to succeed. The romantic moments were still pretty subtle and cute though with how Souma was so shy and polite, treating Chizuru well and trying his best to protect her even when he was weak, and having her to support him and his decisions to carry out what he thinks is right and what he thinks he needs to do for the Shinsengumi and as the last chief of the Shinsengumi. Miki was also a nice touch to it (even though I kinda feel like the writer forgot about him until the end lol) because of how much he reflected that even though the ideals of the Shinsengumi were one to be respected because of how admirable they could be in how adamant they were towards their beliefs, it also showed that the things that everyone did weren’t necessarily right or wrong, everyone fought in their own way for the future, everyone was hurt by it, everyone lost a lot of their comrades and it was all for a future they wanted to create. Whether the future created is one that is good or not, what they wanted or not, it is a future that came about after they tried their best and the ones alive have the responsibility to see it and watch over it in their own way. So yeah, even though the romance wasn’t particularly romantic or my favourite, I liked that it was in the background of something bigger that I enjoyed much more, and it was so worth it!

He stared death on the eye and laughed! *Okita: I only knew he died at the end from Tb. Which is sad, but he is barely mentioned on the story. *Hijimama: he dieeessss why everyone diesss!!!??? TT^TT *Heisuke: I. Love. His new haircut. Also... He dies too. And he is too pure somehow!!! *Shinpachi: he made clear that Saito was blushing and I love him so much for that because is really hard to see in my screen. *Harada: "I can imagine him galloping on the beach"... Is he alive or not? Also. He has the name of one of my favorite characters. And he is part of a samurai anime. *Kodo: I hate this asshole so much. I think he surpassed Ito. *Amagiri: there is no possible way to hate this dude. Honorman. Zuko's counterpart. *Kazama: this guy is totally insane. Playing Kazama's Route Because I Guess I Hate Myself Part 1: Kyoto Winds

So, I'm going to play through everybody's routes on Hakuoki and vent my feelings and frustrations on here! I've already done Saito and Iba but I will play them again soon, too. Next up is Kazama, mostly because I'm curious to find out if this fucker has any redeeming qualities. Maybe if you're into nonces. Idk.

Okita's Route Part 2: Still on Kyoto Winds because I didn't realise that I'd ramble so much

Predictably, I'm enjoying Okita's route a lot more than Kazama's. Also, I'm skipping a lot less than when I played Kazama and Iba's routes, which makes a lot of sense because Okita is actually in the Shinsengumi and, therefore, gets a lot of screen time. So far, he acts like an asshole but this isn't backed up by his actions. Apart from the casual child cruelty X_X

I feel like Hijikata sticking up for Sanan is just making things worse X_X . Saying that he's not useless because he's a swordsman is just plain wrong. It makes it seem like he's just saying it out of pity. I'm sure that Sanan has plenty to contribute, besides slicing people up.

Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms Part 3 - Harada Sanosuke Route

(Note: Yayy, back from Japan, so I’m back to posting now XD) Like, I don’t doubt how manipulative Sanan is and by telling Chizuru of Heisuke’s “condition” that he will eventually succumb to bloodlust if she doesn’t offer her blood to help his research, but really, I’m sure if Heisuke was in such a condition, Harada would like to know even if it hurts him to know! It was pretty saddening when they both ignored each other for a bit because he confronted her and she didn’t tell him what her problem was. Like, I understand that it must have hurt him that she didn’t seem to trust him enough to tell him but ignoring her did seem rather childish of him lol. Especially since that only allowed Sanan more chances to sneak up and try to manipulate her! Luckily she still rejected him, but really, it was pretty scary when Sanan called her ungrateful since they took care of her for these four years. Really though, they’re the ones that forced her to stay here and would kill her if she tried to escape so he has no right to say that lol.

I’m glad Harada caught her before she really tried to leave, and she finally vented her feelings. The kiss was really sudden though lol, but I guess that shuts everyone up lolol. Too bad she doesn’t think Harada thinks anything of it, which I don’t blame her since Harada always acts as that mature adult that it can be hard to believe he took it seriously, especially since he frequents Shimabara haha. He was so manly when he took it to Sanan and told him to stop treating Chizuru like a monster to draw blood from. But I think what most struck a chord in me, was when Harada said, had the Shinsengumi fallen so low to rely on draining the blood of a civilian woman in order to survive through this? It’s true that the Shinsengumi is really lacking in manpower with the lack of recruits and technology since the Satsuma-Choshu have guns and cannons etc but that doesn’t mean Sanan should forget what the Shinsengumi is really here for! Why is everyone losing sight of what the Shinsengumi really is for? It really breaks my heart.

I think I can finally understand why Harada and Nagakura were so angry at Kondou, enough to leave the Shinsengumi later on. It was nice that he was happy to have become a daimyo, a recognised samurai rather than being the poor nobody he once was, but to elate in this excitement and say that he’d promote the guys as his retainers was just…insulting. The guys recognised Hijikata and Kondou as the chief and commander because they respected them, but it wasn’t a total hierarchy or anything. They discussed things together and made decisions together. Suddenly telling them that he would promote them into something like his subordinates was just..sigh. I mean, their relationships were never solely based on a superior and subordinate connection, it was through mutual respect, gratitude and similar goals and by allocating roles depending on their strengths. It’s just that Kondou and Hijikata had a better head on their shoulders. I know why Kondou is happy, but in a situation where the Emperor is the ruling body with the Shogunate considered practically gone, his title doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It was something he always wanted but to forget what the Shinsengumi was for because of it is just so not worth it….

Harada’s dream is so cuteeee! It’s like the maiden’s dream! No wonder why he doesn’t want Chizuru telling Shinpachi and Heisuke. They’d definitely laugh at him ahahaha. I’m sorry Harada, I laughed at how innocent you are. I mean, wanting to meet a beautiful woman, start a family with her and live somewhere quiet and nice is just so cute hahaha! Gotta admit though, I might like Harada’s western uniform more than the Japanese clothing. I’ve never really liked the bare chest look hahahaha. I like them all sleek, fitted and nice😉 Lmao at him popping a few buttons because it was too tight, c'mon Harada, you don’t do that in front of a girl!🤣 Not surprised at how agitated Nagakura was at Kondou for wanting to continue the siege on the castle with half the amount of men and with the castle taken already. But yeah omg, it was so cute when Harada said they’d be closer to their dreams if he made Chizuru his wife then, since she told him that she wanted a normal, quiet and happy life too hahaha. Tell it to her more seriously, Harada!

I think Chizuru in this route frustrates me sometimes, like it’s not that I don’t understand that she feels like a burden but Harada was the one who chose to protect her, so it’s pretty rude of her to just want to up and leave when he left the Shinsengumi to protect her from Sanan. And omgg she cries every time lol. The only thing that’s good is that Harada finally expressed his feelings to her that he loves her and so she can stop guessing things lol. On another note though, I’m kinda disappointed. Harada always leaves the Shinsengumi with Shinpachi and I always wanted a better look into his reason, and I was hoping to see that in his route. Sure, they show times where he is in doubt and disagrees, but in this route, Harada wasn’t completely on to the idea of leaving until Hijikata showed him that he needed to leave with Chizuru to protect her from Sanan since they won’t be able to always keep constant watch on him. Now it’s more like he left to protect her, rather than because there was a irreconcilable difference like Shinpachi.

It’s good to see Shiranui have more of a personality now and to see that there is something he cares about, alike Kazama and them, he doesn’t like the idea of Furies taking over either, but instead of it being because they’re fakes, Shiranui seems to dislike them more for what they are and how they could destroy the world around them by existing and preying on innocent people. Btw, it was so heartbreaking when both Harada and Shinpachi had dreams of Kondou apologising or standing quietly looking at them. Kondou must have felt so terrible that he was the one that made them think there was no choice but for them to leave. I wonder at the point of his death, how he really felt and whether he had a lot of regrets…

I agree with Harada though, the heroine keeps making these decisions on her own without even talking to him first, thinking it’s the best for him but never really considering his actual feelings or ever talking to him when she should. It’s kinda frustrating tbh. It seems that the greatest dilemma in this route is Harada choosing love and peace or to continue fighting in the war. But I feel like more than the peace part, he just wants to be with Chizuru so much for some reason I can’t comprehend, mainly because her personality in this route really hasn’t impressed me, so if I was Harada, I’d never give up fighting beside my friends that need me for Chizuru. Kinda makes me disappointed in Harada as well tbh. I know he just wants a happy life and be with her but… Sigh. First route I’ve encountered where they actually sleep together though! Guess Saito and Heisuke were too innocent and shy for it lmao.

I’m not surprised that Shinpachi is so angry at Harada for not going to war with the Satsuma-Choshu with him. They prepared everything, trained together and now he’s backing out. I think I would have accepted it better if Harada felt really tired from fighting all these years and has lost his reason to continue fighting rather than leaving because of a girl. It’s just so disappointing imo. You know, I always thought for Sano, what he wanted was to protect everyone’s families, everyone’s wives and kids, all the townspeople etc, that’s why he couldn’t take that the Shinsengumi was starting to disregard that. But for him to now prioritise only his own future wife and kids first and foremost kinda makes me think, isn’t he also giving up his original purpose as the others have had too? The fact is, he’s giving up everything he used to fight and work for from the beginning for a girl and I really don’t respect that. Nagakura’s such a great and kind guy, I’m really sad they’re leaving him, sigh…

The only good thing about this route for me are the amount of pretty CGs hahahaha. I guess the good thing about them leaving Shinpachi is that they’ll be going back to Edo to deal with Chizuru’s father who is wreaking havoc with his Furies and pretty much trying to do the same thing as what Sanan wants They should just join teams as the villains who want Furies to be the most superior beings lol. Everything ended quite anti-climactically but I did feel a bit more respect for Chizuru when she tried to kill her father to try and stop the further insanity he was trying to bring about. Aww Chizuru with her hair down and them having a baby peacefully somewhere was pretty cute! As usual though, the unrequited love ending is the only one that’s different and not typical. I mean, the thought of Furies slashing at Harada’s body to the point it was beyond recognition and then Chizuru committing suicide to be with Harada forever was quite chilling to say the least…

Overall, not a fan of Harada and Chizuru’s relationship. Their so called depth of love that drives them is rather questionable and I honestly couldn’t feel it or care for it against the bigger picture of things, so I honestly wasn’t interested or invested in their relationship, which made this route rather redundant to me because it mainly focused on their romance lol. So I guess if you like it more romance heavy, you might like this one? Otherwise, it was just a pretty standard and basic route where love is the most important thing I guess. Honestly, I’m kinda disappointed haha, the Kyoto Winds part was nice though, didn’t mind that.

Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms Part 2 - Toudou Heisuke Route

It’s kinda ironic that a part of the reason why Nagakura and Harada left in Saito’s route was because Kondou kept partying and drinking sake to get new recruits without focusing on the goal of the Shinsengumi, and yet now in Heisuke’s route, they’re doing the same thing as Kondou in order to try and save the Shinsengumi from the lack of members….

Lmao at Heisuke having checked out Chizuru’s house in Edo already and she’s concerned whether he went into her room and he’s like, he wouldn’t go into a girl’s room🤣 They’re so silly hahaha. Chizuru always thinks that she’s not useful, but I can really see how important she is from Heisuke’s perspective, really, her words, her presence is just so important to him because she understands him so well and can help him stop trying so hard to keep up a tough front when he doesn’t need to. She really helps him let out all his feelings and thoughts and keeps him sane, and you can really see that. I think it’s so important to have someone like that support you from behind, sometimes even more so than someone that can physically fight beside you. Whenever I see Heisuke’s new look though, ughh, he looks like such a little boy! He looked much better with the long hair and everything, sighhh. He’s still cute though I guess lol. I love how depending on Chizuru’s reaction to his new clothes and hair, Heisuke’s attitude towards it changes, he was so much more accepting of it after she called him handsome🤣

The Shinsengumi moving to Edo only served to allow the Furies to go on a rampage there instead! It’s disgusting that they’ve lost all sense of humanity and reached such depravity to kill townspeople for blood! There’s no point of keeping up the Shinsengumi if they just allow these guys to rampage at night! They’re there to protect people, not allow such senseless killing! The poor people! No one deserves to be so mutilated and killed beyond recognition just because these guys desire blood! I don’t like Kazama but it’s good that he and Amagiri are going around at night checking up on these deaths, because the Shinsengumi needs to control the Furies and really not create any more! It’s quite saddening to see how everyone handles being a Fury. For Saito, it was so difficult for him to accept having to drink blood and rely on such a fake power, whereas for Heisuke, not being able to hang with Chizuru in the daylight to simple outings such as looking at flowers torments him, the fact that he’s alive but also not alive hurts him….

Despite everything though, it seems that Nagakura and Harada will still leave because they question Kondou’s ability to lead when during the time they needed to capture the castle, he spent too much time in his hometown for no apparent reason and refused to retreat leading many men to their deaths.. I always find it saddening to see Nagakura and Harada leave the Shinsengumi, but I think it’s even more so this time since they asked Heisuke to leave with them, and when he couldn’t bear to do it considering how much the Shinsengumi had done for him after he got a second chance at life and how much he would be worried about leaving Chizuru here and leaving, the three of them could only drink until morning reminiscing of the past instead. The thought of that scene was just so heartbreaking but also beautiful. Since I do think about the little scenes of the past they shared in Kyoto. I guess this shows that although they’ve all changed and are going to go on different paths, there are still things that haven’t changed, regardless of whatever is happening, Nagakura, Harada and Heisuke would still share drinks together. The only depressing thing is that this could be the last time they can do that anymore…

When Heisuke avoided Ryunosuke (former Shinsengumi member back when Serizawa was the chief), it was so difficult to watch that Heisuke has to hide away from everything and everyone he knows and can only show himself to few people. But I guess he also hid away because he didn’t want to remind Ryunosuke of those days since Serizawa (previous chief of the Shinsengumi) would always beat him up, especially since he seemed rather satisfied with his life now. Back then, Heisuke was worried about him, but now, it seems like things have turned around, Heisuke is the one with all the worries now. Maybe in the end, things would have been much better if he left the Shinsengumi back then too… Then Heisuke would have been able to experience a normal life, he wouldn’t have to think about how unpredictable his life would be, whether he would succumb to the lost of his mind from bloodlust, whether he would continue to be a monster constantly drinking Chizuru’s blood or whether he’d just up and die tomorrow without having achieved anything… There are just so many fears oppressing him, it feels so terrible…

I can’t believe Sanan’s aim is to make a Fury kingdom and prove their worth as the strongest beings! To think he even made Sen drink his blood through a kiss when she was distracted so that he could control her because his blood has such capabilities… He wants her as the Queen of the kingdom since she’s a pure blood Demon but omg, Sanan has really been working behind the scenes, he’s already started his whole kingdom by hiding all these Furies, which are actually innocent people he killed in Edo! How dare he… How could he do something so disgusting… I’m even more disappointed in him this time around! I agree with Heisuke, he can’t be forgiven, he’s lost all his previous purposes and humanity, he’s lost everything that made him who he once was, he’s nothing but a monster living to bring chaos to humans and Demons. It’s so terrible that Heisuke had to be the one to kill all these innocent people that had been driven mad from turning into a Fury, but I guess now they can rest in peace that they’re not killing other people…. But, Sen has been captured…. Seeing Heisuke so desperate to save her but being blocked by so many Furies was just so disheartening to see….

To think that Sanan ran off and got the trust of the Sendai Domain that are all trying to band together with other people and domains to overthrow the Empire of Japan… It’s true that since the Shinsengumi is under the Aizu Domain now, they can’t so blatantly go to Sendai, but since Heisuke is supposed to be “dead”, he can go and deal with Sanan. It’s true and it’s cruel that Heisuke has to be the one to deal with this alone but there’s no other choice and I’m sure Heisuke doesn’t want to leave Sanan like that as well. Sometimes, you’ve gotta slap your love interest to show him how much you care🤣 Chizuru’s right though, he’s not a monster and she will not abandon him. It’s kinda cool to see Heisuke, Kazama and Kimigiku ally together to destroy the Furies and save Sen. Their motivations may be different but the goals and results they want are pretty much the same, so I thought it’d be cool if Kazama joined them, but to see it really happening is nice. Seeing Heisuke mature, grow and acknowledge his weaknesses and the detriments of their situation was really, I don’t want to say nice but he’s really grown, even though he laments the situation, he also acknowledges that he needs to handle it and will do so, he’s very strong, that’s for sure. It was pretty funny when Kazama and Heisuke started arguing like little kids hahaha.

I feel like the thing I love about Heisuke’s route is that it has a great balance between story and romance. You can really feel the love between Chizuru and Heisuke and you can really see how precious they are to the other and how well they support each other, and the story is engaging as well! I mean, going to defeat evil Sanan is very interesting! I’m sure Kimigiku wouldn’t mind sacrificing her life to save Chizuru and Sen since Chizuru was Sen’s first true friend and so she would never want the mind controlled Sen to do such a thing. At least Sen woke up from that I guess, and she won’t necessarily die since she’s a Demon! But yeah, when Heisuke successfully killed Sanan, it was impossible to feel happy. In the end, Sanan was a comrade, he was a friend and whether they’ve gone down the wrong path or not, that fact will never change, so seeing it have to end like this is just so difficult to stomach. It’s so touching that because Chizuru was there, Heisuke could realise that there’s so much more to life than to dedicate it to the sword and to fight, he’s got a second chance at life, so no reason to give it up like that again! It was sad to see even Heisuke leave Hijikata and the Shinsengumi but I do want Heisuke to enjoy a better life no matter what, so I guess my feelings are similar to Hijikata’s. Sad but happy for them.

As usual, the bad endings are pretty meh, besides the unrequited love one where the love interest dies. I mean, seeing Kazama step out alone acknowledging Heisuke as a warrior but only to tell Chizuru that he had turned into ashes after exerting everything was just too cruel….

Overall, I loved Heisuke’s route. I loved it so much because I love how supportive Chizuru was to Heisuke throughout all the pain whether it be physical or emotional. They both tried their best together, talked to each other and communicated their love for each other. It was pretty depressing since Heisuke always feels like he’ll break apart, but with Chizuru there, it gave him hope and made their life a bit more happier haha. I think their relationship was portrayed really well and Heisuke is such a great guy. Initially very happy and optimistic turned serious and carrying burdens out of his control, but nevertheless he is who he is and I loved every bit of his route. I can see why so many people love Chizuru with Heisuke haha.

Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds Part 2 - Toudou Heisuke Route

Heisuke was so cute when Chizuru confessed to them that she’s actually a girl, the funniest was Shinpachi though, “girls aren’t supposed to wear pants"🤣🤣🤣 I guess he’s kinda right for that era😂 I love how blunt and straightforward Heisuke is though, he apologised for treating her as a man and for his display of shock haha. Lolol at Harada and Shinpachi going to drink at the red light district and just telling Chizuru about it, at least Harada really just wants to drink, well Shinpachi isn’t too bad either since he just wants pretty girls to pour sake for him hahaha. Btw, Heisuke and Chizuru’s exchange where he told her to just call her Heisuke and treat him as an equal since they’re the same age was so considerate and respectful of him. It was such a simple but nice gesture to redo their first meeting and try to get along hehe. How Heisuke-like to go along because he wants to hang with the guys haha. He was so adorable to be so happy and excited that Chizuru agreed to wear females clothes in the future if she got the chance to, he’s so cuteeee! Lmao when Gen caught them going out and they lied that they were going training instead so Gen asked if he can come along too🤣 Heisuke was so cute with his sad puppy eyes trying to get Chizuru to save him from all that by making the excuse that he’s showing her around the headquarters lolol. Hahahaha, Sano betrayed Shinpachi too and left him to train alone with Gen, poor him🤣🤣

I’m glad that in this route, the heroine helps out with chores pretty much straight away, I always felt like the heroine did nothing but listen to orders in Saito’s route so she legit did nothing for months until she could go on patrol rounds with them, I’d be bored out of my mind! Heisuke is rash and comes to conclusions fast, like when he assumed she was helping out so she could get them to trust her but really, she just didn’t want to dwell on thoughts that there isn’t much hope of finding her father, so when she told him that and he apologised, I really liked that. Heisuke might be rash and speak before he thinks, but he’s always ready to admit his wrongs and that’s something not everyone can do, so I really respect that! Lmao when he tried to apologise by giving her sake though😂 lolol that Heisuke and them are getting scolded by Hijikata for being so negligent and doing stuff like drinking in the middle of the day🤣 But awww, Heisuke came to talk to her because he was worried about how she was doing by herself~~~

Ohh wow the punishment was harsher than I thought, Heisuke’s under house arrest and his food portions have decreased! Hijikata is super strict! So sweet of the heroine to go visit him risking the consequences just to see if she can give him some food though hahaha. It’s all worth it when you see Heisuke beam with such a smile though! Not surprised that Souma doesn’t like the Shinsengumi, in a sense, they really are just following their own sense of justice and forcing others to go along with it through the fact that they have the sheer manpower and strength to back it up. At least, although people view them as hooligans, they’re much more understanding and kinder than hooligans haha. But I’m happy that Kondou’s courteous attitude got through to Souma that the Shinsengumi are a sincere group that are fighting for the future that they believe is for the best.

Omg, the fight at the Ikeda Inn was intense! How do they even fight in the dark, and the stench of blood! I guess that’s why their uniforms were changed to white so that they knew who were their allies. No wonder why Heisuke was so injured at Ikeda! He was facing Amagiri😯 So funny when Heisuke called Hijikata a demon for not letting him participate in the next battle because he was injured and Hijikata said he’d gut him and then he went all quiet and meek🤣 Be a good boy, Heisuke! Heisuke’s gone to recruit people at Edo for the Shinsengumi, I can relate to the heroine, it’s so lonely and quiet without him and his bright personality haha. How nice of Kondou to bother teaching her some sword skills before he leaves to join with Heisuke though. So nice that he doesn’t mind calling her a disciple of his sword style even though he barely taught her anything, he’s such a warm guy! He really knows how to make Chizuru feel like she belongs there for once.

Seeing Sanan take the concoction because he felt like he had no other choice was saddening, thinking about him betraying the Shinsengumi in Saito’s route and then dying at the hands of the people he betrayed the Shinsengumi for is just even more saddening, I hope he doesn’t succumb himself to madness this time. I never thought that the Furies actually consisted of men who had broken the rules of conduct and had been given the choice of seppuku or to drink that thing as part of the experiment… What a cruel choice… It’s nice to see some insight on what Heisuke thinks, I can kinda see why Heisuke initially left the Shinsengumi in Saito’s route, it wasn’t just because he felt responsible with Itou but also because he doesn’t view the shogun in a good light since the shogun doesn’t seem to take action for the things he says he would e.g. expelling foreigners from Edo, instead seeming to welcome them. Heisuke loves the Shinsengumi and respects Hijikata and everyone, but if your beliefs don’t align, it’s hard to continue with just loyalty to push you. The fact that there is uncertainty with the Shinsengumi can’t be helped especially with the Furies and the shogun being the one giving them that dodgy thing to improve etc.

It was so cute how Heisuke excitedly grabbed Chizuru’s hand to show her how much snow had fallen in one night, he’s such a kid hahaha. So true that Harada, Heisuke and Shinpachi are definitely not dressed for snowy weather lmao, just looking at them makes me feel cold🤣 It’s so funny how the three of them get along so well and are all so kiddish despite their different personalities hahaha. A snowball fight suits them so well, I knew they’d choose to do that. It’s legit hilarious how serious they take snowball fighting, too bad Chizuru could never possibly hit them🤣 Lmao that Hijikata caught them and got pissed because their snowballs broke holes into some sliding doors😂😂 Something I really like about Heisuke’s route is that he and Chizuru really talk and support each other by speaking about their problems and trying to find a solution together, they might not necessarily come to one but they listen to each other and try their best to answer each other and I think that’s important for communication!

I agree with Heisuke tbh that there isn’t much of a future in just listening to what the Shogunate says all the time. As I’ve said before, loyalty is good but you’ve got to understand when it becomes blind loyalty, you’ve got to think for yourself and I’m glad that Heisuke thought for himself on this occasion. I’m sure he’ll miss Harada and Shinpachi since they’re such good buddies, but knowing that Heisuke wants to follow a path he can believe in rather than just follow along with the others because he likes them is something very respectable and hard to do. It kinda reminds me of that time in high school when we had to choose which book stream we wanted to read for the HSC and all my friends chose Pride and Prejudice and I was nearly peer pressured into following, but I thought to myself that I knew that I’d be unhappy and disappointed in myself if I only chose something because I wanted to be with my friends rather than choose something I really wanted to do and believed that would be more interesting, and so I chose Frankenstein and I never regretted it, in fact I’m very proud and happy that I went along with that choice. I think for Heisuke, even if it may seem like the wrong choice for others, especially since Itou’s guard etc eventually were killed by the Shinsengumi, the fact that Heisuke chose this for himself is something to be proud of. What matters isn’t what is wrong or right, but whether you truly believed in it and did what you wanted to do. Which is why in the end, even though the Shinsengumi didn’t have the best ending and nor did their ideals come to fruition, but the truth of it was that they fought their hardest and tried their best to fight for the beliefs they believed in and I think that’s enough. And yeah, I also think that Itou isn’t exactly wrong or right, but the experimentation on comrades and hiding things from him even though he’s a part of them and one of the officers as well, it couldn’t be helped that he’d want to leave since Hijikata and them never trusted him. I’m glad Heisuke told her all this before he left though, he had no obligation to but he considered her a friend and told her what he thought. I really enjoyed that interaction. It was also really sweet of him to say that he was sad to leave her too…

Although Heisuke isn’t as strong as Saito or Amagiri, I thought it was really cool that Chizuru helped Heisuke out by hindering Amagiri from moving properly (since he captured her and was trying to take her away). I wonder what happened with Itou and the Guard that has made Heisuke kinda regret leaving the Shinsengumi though. I guess it’s because Itou and the rest could never trust him because they think he’s a spy? Omg, letting Chizuru in her female clothes meet with Heisuke at the tea house was so heartbreaking!! It was such a simple everyday conversation about nothing really, but seeing each other, hearing their voice and noticing the subtleties of their gestures really made them understand how they both were doing and how much they really needed that talk. When he said he wanted to talk longer and didn’t want to leave, I was so sad, I wanted to hear him talk longer too! It’s been months since Chizuru has seen him so it must have been so difficult for them to leave each other. I’m so happy he remembered that she said she’d show him how she looks in a female kimono, Heisuke is still Heisuke, I want to see him happy again, not so downtrodden like now😢😢 Luring the Guard out with Itou’s corpse is such a disgusting act that I just can’t approve of no matter how much I like the Shinsengumi tbh, I understood why they needed to kill Itou but this is a different story. I know that they can’t let their feelings get in the way but doing such a thing is just so…. dishonourable. I feel so terrible for Heisuke that he never thought Itou would frame Harada for Sakamoto’s death and do similar things that made him leave the Shinsengumi in the first place. Accompanied with the sudden battle, how do you want him to possibly act and choose what to do at that moment?! Even if he wants to go back to the Shinsengumi, how could he just up and attack the Guard so easily? He’s not that type of person! I guess the Guard attacking Chizuru and Heisuke protecting her has to be the trigger for him to decisively choose to go against the Guard. I’m happy that even though Heisuke is confused and doesn’t know what he should really do, he does know that he needs to protect Chizuru and that’s his decision. It really makes me so glad.

Nooo! Not Heisuke, don’t die! I don’t want him to become a Fury. He threw his swords to save Chizuru, thus being open to Amagiri striking him with no time to block his blows. It just breaks my heart to think of Heisuke dying. I’m honestly so affected by Heisuke that when he was dying, I really cried, Heisuke doesn’t deserve this, he just wanted to find his own path in life, he just wanted what’s best for the future, he’s so young and he was so cheerful, I don’t want him to carry the burdens of being a Fury😭😭😭 It was sweet when she told Heisuke that she wanted to stay beside him as long as she could, her boldness really must have cheered him up since he’s probably so confused after becoming a Fury, not knowing how alive he really is and not knowing whether he really has escaped death, it must be really weird. I think my thoughts about the Water of Life are most akin to Harada right now, can understand it but also don’t want to accept it. When he said that maybe the Shinsengumi isn’t exactly changing but that they’ve only started to realise the misconception that everyone was working towards the same goals when they really aren’t might be the problem here. Harada’s a really good guy though, I like him. Mature and kind.

Chizuru is so optimistic, when Heisuke told her about him being an illegitimate son that gets hush money every month, it’s kinda cool how she could interpret positively as them wanting him to live even if they are separated since in the end they are his parents. I guess it’s true in a sense, if he really wanted Heisuke to be shut up, since he’s like a lord of a domain, it must be easy for him to send assassins to kill him if he really wanted to. It’s so heartbreaking to see Heisuke react to how he acted when he lost control of himself at the taste of blood. He was the most normal, most human and yet now he’s suffering from feeling less and less human every day… It’s just so terrible. Sometimes it just makes me think, maybe, just maybe it would have been better to have let him die that day instead of extending his suffering like this… Is it worth surviving if he has to drink other people’s blood? Honestly, I don’t know either, I don’t know whether it’s really worth it. But omg, I feel like with Heisuke, Chizuru really knows how to support him and cheer him up. When he lamented on always making the wrong decision, and she made him realise that despite the supposed wrong decisions and the sadness, there are happy times to live for as long as you’re alive, especially since Chizuru wants to see him live. Chizuru putting her hand on his really seemed so soothing, I think I feel healed too hahaha.

I love that whenever Heisuke feels like he’s lost his way, Chizuru is always the constant that reminds him that even if things go wrong, doing his best protecting her will never be a wrong decision. I never thought Sen was like such a highly respected Demon because of her ancestor, well enough that she could push Kazama and them back for breaking the Demon code of interfering with human politics. She’s such a nice girl~ When Heisuke and Chizuru are together, it’s hard to not feel like everything will work out in the end no matter what, I feel like when they’re together, they can face anything. It was so adorable when he said he’d show Kazama that Chizuru is his!😍 The Shinsengumi has really come a long way huh? From when they could barely feed themselves to establishing a name for their group and everything in 5 years. A lot of things must have changed so rapidly, it would have been difficult to accept at times.

Anyway, I love Heisuke’s route. Heisuke is great, his route is great. His self-reflections, his interactions with Chizuru, their cute moments, him sharing his feelings, his funny bond with Shinpachi and Harada, everything was just so enjoyable and beautiful, I loved it so much that I couldn’t stop reading hahaha. My heart is so warm from Heisuke hahaha, favourite boy right now🤣
