so interestingly enough, some ppl have been pointing out that maybe miles42 is slightly older than 1610 miles? and i was like "yeah maybe" but looking at miles42's face more and more lately i'm... i'm starting to see it? :o

like if you just compare the jawlines and cheeks, it actually looks like 42 lost some more of the baby fat 1610 still has

and even without the Dramatic Ink Lines, 42 still looks like he's older than 1610 by at least a little! he has slightly more defined cheekbones imo

its kinda hard to tell with limited camera angles and weird lighting tho. there's also the possibility that bc 42 lives in a household that's clearly struggling financially, one could argue he just happens to be not as well fed as 1610

not only that but the different murals they have of aaron in 1610 and jeff in 42 are also completely different. i've heard ppl pointing out that jeff's mural looked more worn out but actually.... the one thing that strikes me is how simplistic jeff's mural is.

almost as if someone younger than 1610 made it.... someone who lost their father at a younger age and started growing out their hair to braid it around that same time. someone who developed an effective routine with their uncle also around that time, and who's had it down pat by the time 1610 appeared in their universe...

but what do yall think?

Again PEAK character design omfg I love Vienna Munkustrap. Even though I barely understand German I love listening to him sing.

Zurich Munkustrap. He’s so goddamn sassy omg. (I mean, so is every Munkustrap but he’s just a whole different level.) Also listening to him sing “Old Deuteronomy” was a treat. Especially since it was a different version of a song.

Blue Lock S2 Ep 12 (extremely Nagi biased)

I LOVE THIS EPISODE SO MUCH THERE'S SO MUCH NAGI

FIRSTLY THERE'S REO'S NAGI COPY. That entire lead up was so hype I kinda got shivers hearing Reo's voice repeating what Nagi said (names of the different techniques he used) when he was executing the goal. It really highlights how different their voices are and that it’s REO saying them!

His voice is really very masculine in comparison, low with a lot of rasp and growl. He sounded so heavy and serious too because everything is always serious and heavy when it comes to Nagi :)

"Do you know how many times I've seen it?" "I know this move better than anyone" (He's so intense omfg 😳😭)

On the other hand, Nagi sounded so cute and childlike instead like his usual self? Why is he so cute?? 😭 Shimazaki really is such a good choice for him and his baby voice.

And of course Nagi's the one who received the pass! Can't wait for the next Reo -> Nagi express train pass coming up :p

Here begins another sequence of "Nagi floating around" lol. I'm not exaggerating when I say the U20 match is a lot of Nagi just floating around being useless after his first super goal (though that also involved a lot of mid air floating aerobatics), especially so in the previous epi where he's in a lot of frames but doing nothing except floating 😭

But this time he's useful! While he's floating a lot, he also did a superb ball control and pass! I love how this entire sequence is animated BECAUSE HE'S REALLY JUST FLOATING IN MID AIR THE WHOLE TIME WTF. Nagi be having whole ass convos in his brain while mid air 😭

"Only Nagi can control that long pass into the goal area" Yes even just from still frames alone it looks very technically challenging and seems like you would need time dilation and levitation powers to pull it off??

I love how absolutely frustrated Nagi sounded when he called Isagi "striker" lol, cause he realised he's being used (like a tool). Though his "zurui na" (that's unfair) sounded whiny and was very cute as usual.

"Zurui na, striker" but still calmly passes the ball to Isagi with a "yes boss" 😭

How much have I missed his "yes boss" and calling Isagi "striker". You've no idea how happy Nagi doing this makes me cause it’s just too darn cute I was legit so giddy over it. It was like a throw back to their teaming up days (I'm ignoring the supporting actor narrative being detrimental let me live brain)!

But honestly, I do think Nagi likes acting upon commands as we'll know in future chaps :) He has his egoist side of wanting to show off and be the winner but also, he does like being the supporting act! Especially to people he admires!

Honestly, they did Barou's goal and celebration dirty!!! There's even less frames than usual wtf? In the manga, it was really cold!! They rushed through his explanation of his thought process too and worst of all, they didn't even properly show Barou flinging Nagi to the ground!! Like the choice of angle used we could barely see what's going on 😭

I suspect 8bit couldn't bear animating their babygirl being flung like that/jk

Because at least they gave us this?? I love that they actually animated Nagi getting up from the ground lol, and how they expanded on Nagi's deadpan reaction to Barou getting a yellow card. After getting "scolded" by him too. Nagi's everywhere and I'm loving it 😭

Additional time should just be renamed to "Nagi's imagination" I swear 😭 I died here btw, the comedy of the chaos transiting to real time where it's quiet and its all in Nagi and Isagi's head. He's making the exact same face as when he imagined mosquite Sae 😭

Nagi: "What do you even do at a maid cafe?" My sweet innocent summer child, please stay the way you're. His "sumimasen tenchou" to being scolded by boss Barou is also way too cute.

mag 34: OOOH interesting. while i was trying to find the number of the episode i was looking for, i stumbled across the wiki, which says that anatomy class (34) was stranger-related?? i thought it was flesh (alas, my shallow first-impressions-are-probably-accurate mindset sabotaged me) but tbh stranger makes much more sense.

also i think it's perfect that breekon and hope are stranger-affiliated because that baaaasically makes them a neutral party as well. like nikola seems perfectly affable around most other avatars

why are his fingees so elegant. Also the animators tried REALLY hard in this frame. His proportions and anatomy aren't wonky, the foreshortening looks correct, they detailed his fucking nose, his fucking pupils are pointed in the same direction and also look like they're focusing on her, the way one ear sticks out because his head is cocked a little (even when he's being sweet he's sassy,) the way his hair is asymmetrical in a way which makes sense to gravity. The expression matches the voice acting!!

They even tried really hard in these sets of frames, too. So did the voice actor tbh.

But also OH GOD THE EMPATHY. I would say that you need a bit of familiarity with the original game and the Remake game, but fortunately for you, they’re both very good and there are plenty of Let’s Plays for both. I’m going to ramble about all of that for a bit here.

Final Fantasy VII (1997) is kind of an old game now, it’s kind of all over the place, very weird and dated and clunky in a variety of ways, but it’s also still good, a very important game, and it got re-released on basically everything. I’d recommend Dansg08’s walkthrough series here? He’s a completionist but he labels his videos so that it’s easier to just skip the grinding bits. There is some degree of dramatic psychosexual yaoi to FFVII.

Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and the upcoming FFVII Rebirth (2024) are partly remakes of the original, but also sort of a sequel? It’s a series of games that is very much aware of the legacy of the original and isn’t trying to just have FFVII (1997) with updated graphics. It’s also a kind of meta conversation about the nature of remakes… Kind of what the Rebuild of Evangelion movies are to the original NGE, except if it was good instead of embarrassingly dogshit. FFVII Remake is a phenomenal game. Materwelonz (I just love her stuff!!) has a great FFVIIR Let’s Play series. She hasn’t played the original game, but she’s very good at picking up on details. If you plan on reading my fic and won’t play the game, I’d recommend going up to chapter 8 of FFVIIR. FFVIIR (2020) This is where most of the Aerti stuff is at, and it’s great, these two interact so much! Also, there’s dramatic psychosexual yaoi.

And then you’ve got everything else FFVII, which is varying degrees of “good but unnecessary” to “obvious cash grab dogshit”

Crisis Core is a PSP game that got a recent remaster (as in, same game with updated graphics). It’s a prequel to FFVII (1997). It’s very flawed but I have a lot of fondness for it, there’s one song from the soundtrack that makes me curl up in a ball and cry every time I hear it, it’s physically painful. It’s almost a good game, the FMVs are great, and there’s some excellent dramatic psychosexual yaoi in there, also Gackt is here for some reason. Materwelonz did a good Let’s Play, but I really like the original voice actor for the main character, and unfortunately he got recast for the remaster.

Advent Children is a movie that is kind of a sequel to FFVII (1997) and it’s kind of bad in many ways, it mangles everybody’s characterization to some degree, it looks dated, as do most CGI animated movies of the 2000s… It’s mostly bad but it also has a couple of really iconic scenes that were in so many AMVs back in the mid 2000s to early 2010s. It also has some degree of psychosexual yaoi to it.

Everything else is, imho, not worth engaging it. There’s a third person shooter game for the PS2 that is basically Shadow the Hedgehog and a bunch of mobile games and stories and most of it is stupid and dumb and bad and unnecessary, and most of that barely contains any kind of yaoi whatsoever which makes it instantly worthless.

I don't necessarily want him to be The Main Villain of it in the traditional sense... Mr. Scratch is, ultimately, just another side of Alan... And Alan has *many* sides! >:) We see just a taste of how many Alan's there are from The Signal/The Writer when he can't stop fracturing into further self-persecution. I hope to see lots of different Alan's made manifest, like the Teen Titans "Raven OSDD-1a" episode (shout out to my epic partner @parasitefun for showing me that fucking smash hit).

I have a lot of high hopes and fondness in my heart for Remedy and the development process they've been doing. I was a big fan of Alan Wake in 2013 and I did a looot of RP even in 2015-2017. Crazy shit! I kinda fell off the face of the Earth for a while tho. I've never played Quantum Break, and me and Paras are working thru Control together right now (we're in the Maintenance Sector and it just finished doing the Burn The Trash quest).

We spent most of May/June working thru Alan Wake and we have sooo many things to say on it that we're polishing up because it's such a dense story!! So transitioning from working thru AW with a fine tooth comb, to Control which is like four times the size of AW and has *that* much more to work thru, has been a real treat! Remedy sure knows how to make a good fucking story! It's like a croissant with many, many, many laminated layers to turn around in my head. I'm good at recognizing voice actors, so it made my head explode to realize Matthew Poretta played Darling, and James Mcaffrey played Trench. Like, omfg!! And every new realization along the way that links Control to AW. Just a real treat!

All that being said, I've seen a lot of posts along the lines of like, "Where's Alice!@!!! Where's Barry!!!!!!!" and it's like, will I be disappointed if they are underplayed...? yes. Do I worry that that's a possibility, at all? ...only a little bit! I want to put my faith into Remedy's ability to make this a good story. They've been chipping away at it for 13+ years, after all, and if I remember correctly, The Alan Wake Experience since 2000? As in the conception and development of AW1? So, 23 years entirely... that's a long time to be rotating the same Boy around. AW1 was a masterpiece IMO, a many-layered sandwich of nuance and metaphor, paradoxes within paradoxes... I think AW2 is gonna really surprise all of us.

Alan Wake 2, I'm super curious about what they do with it, and hopefully Mr. Scratch *and* Alan both get room to breathe. I think they will, and I'm so, so intrigued about what they're gonna do with Saga! It seems pretty ambitious for Remedy to do a multi-protagonist storyline like this, and their cheeky insistence that you can play it however you want, there's no wrong way to play, makes me worried. I hope more than anything that they didn't dumb down certain world-building elements (I'm blown away at how we went from TVs, radio show0,s and manuscripts in AW1 to the sheer amount of multi-media that went into Control).

I have in some degrees some fairly bad brain damage that inhibits a lot of my abilities to comprehend certain things, and yet, everything about the way the world-building environment contributes to a Greater Understnding of a Remedy Game that most people tend to ignore or outright complain about! Oh, the TV ruins the pacing, oh I didn't wanna have to stand here listening to someone talk I wanna run around and shoot things, oh boo I didn't like how many manuscripts i had to pick up. It's a little tedious, yes, and it breaks the Pacing Of The Literal Game up a little bit yes, but!!! It's excruciatingly important to the story!! It's a ROLE PLAYING GAME!!! YOU HAVE TO ROLE PLAY OMFG!!!!!! (still salty over how Zero Punctuation reviewed these games considering how fucking detectivey they are).

So anyways all of that being said, I hope that Alan Wake 2 is stuffed to the BRIM with multi-media. I hope we get SICK of manuscripts and casettes and pictures with captions and TV episodes and radio shows and BLAH BLAH BLAH. I hope Saga and Alan have a lot of crazy shit go down with each other because they're also very shippable. I hope Alex Casey calls Alan a shitty writer because he's one of the only obvious "HI, I'M A BOOK CHARACTER INVENTED BY ALAN WAKE. I'M VERY MAD. ABOUT BEING CREATED BY ALAN WAKE."

Ideally I would have played all the Remedy games to be caught up by now on more of the AW2 hype and analysis, because I wish I had more things to say! But because I haven't finished Control or QB yet, I'm trying to stay away from stuff that technically spoils Control just by virtue of being in the AW-verse.
