The Urge scenes are so freaking intense. I'm not cut out for this >.<

And Wyll takes it all like a champ. I don't know what I expected, but he didn't even flinch or falter.

And again, just like after the business with Alfira, there was absolutely zero judgment from him. No guilt trips, Wyll straight up said this is just another demon to vanquish and he'll do it with you by his side.

My friend and I have been coming up with quest names for our various tavs (a la The Pale Elf and The Wizard of Waterdeep) and actually I'm having a little too much fun with it. So here's my list:

Auric - The Golden Brother

Naught - A Kindness of Ravens

Ciaran - The Silent Songbird

Jinx - The Wild Magician

Amaris - The Mirrored Moon

Okay, but glitched positioning and funky camera in cutscenes sometimes do bring a bit of hilarity into play.

Oops, my hand slipped, and I threw my second D&D character into BG3. With a twist!

So... this is Adeim, and he's an aasimar. Usually looks more shiny, but you see, his twist is that... he's a Durge now.

Not sure how I'll go with it yet, as he's a fierce devotee of Ilmater and a Oath of Vengeance paladin, but it sure will be a ride :)

So far he's just there, I'm still going to finish my current run, but he just dropped in to say hello :)

There is just no going back for Adeim. It's over, he's off the market.

Adeim still knows nothing, remembers nothing, but this here? It's what he chose to become. Something his, theirs, to remember and hold onto.

Do you guys know what I love about playing an oath of vengeance paladin? I can say things like this on a daily basis...

...and even get advantage on my rolls. Gone are the days of boring paladins.

Can you tell us more about your Durge’s oath and his relationship to being a paladin?

Oooh, there is a lot to be said about my Durge and his oaths. Perhaps my take on paladins (and aasimars) is very liberal when confronted with D&D rules, but I was never a big fan of “they must be good” mindset so…bear with me :)

My Durge clings to a life's purpose. In his mind, he cannot exist without one. And what purpose is better than taking on an oath, to serve a being indefinitely more powerful?

Adeim is an aasimar, his divine blood is that of the Lord of Murder, and Bhaal never had a more dutiful and devoted son. Before his downfall, he took on the oath of conquest to best serve his father.

Douse the Flame of Hope. Each kill in Bhaal’s name was a ritual. He hunted relentlessly, instilling fear into the hearts of unbelievers, so when they finally got felled by his blade, they knew terror like no other.

Rule with an Iron Fist. Nobody was to disobey Bhaal. Any dissent was met with a violent response, but the god-fearing and loyal to Adeim were rewarded with his personal protection.

Strength Above All. I think the wiki description of this one is really perfect here: “You shall rule until a stronger one arises. Then you must grow mightier and meet the challenge, or fall to your own ruin.”

And fall he did, but not because his might failed him, no. Adeim fell prey to his only weakness - the human half of him, the only thing that questioned his undying loyalty to the Lord of Murder.

So when his hellish butler wasn’t there to rein him in, nor his father to reprimand him, he felt another’s presence when carrying out his murderous work. And when he was left with Ilmater’s bloodied sigil in his palm, torn out of his victim, he felt what he never knew he was capable of - compassion.

Each kill he made now in the name of his father was a chore rather than a divine ritual. Each made him cry bloody tears, and he knew he has broken his oath. So it was then, at his lowest, an oathbreaker without Bhaal’s blessing, when Orin proved to be his challenger.

He kept the Ilmatari symbol hidden under the layers of his clothes, and so when he woke on the nautiloid, Adeim felt its weight. He had no memory apart from his own name and a promise burned in his very flesh - a new oath, that of vengeance against those that harm.

And that extends to him as well. For as long as he carries Bhaal’s taint in his veins, he suffers with every life taken for his oath. And perhaps one day he will cry out enough of the Lord of Murder’s blood to be free.

Aaand that ended up awfully long, so sorry for the rambling, I got carried away because I have so many thoughts about it. The concept of an evil paladin who is not an oathbraker is very dear to me, as is the idea of gods “stealing” those divine warriors into their service.

I also hope that answered the question because I went with the flow with this one, I’m really grateful for the ask :D

I might have played a bit with Adeim today, just for the slight change of pace (and because I love act 1, and act 2, not all that much...). It’s so funny that of all my runs started after the official launch, it’s the high strength and constitution aasimar paladin who got thrown down to wrestle in the dirt with Astarion.

Mom and Dad are not impressed.

The upside was I got to headbutt him and got this little dark and foreboding little flavour dialogue.

Honestly, I have no idea what to do with Astarion on this run. If I would like to roleplay Adeim as close to his original character as possible than Astarion doesn't have all the time in the world left... on the other - I hate not having the whole gang together T_T

Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

@iamaweretoad got me thinking about Adeim in a masquarade outfit and now I can't get it out of my head.

His hunky aasimar self would never fit this one, but he would absolutely spend an ungodly amount of gold to any tailor to alter it for him. And yes, the mask contains his feathers, just for it to match.

Straight out of the pod and already choosing to be dramatic, we're going to have so much fun, I can feel it.

Have Vitani or Adeim ever gotten into any fights (verbal or otherwise) with their companions? What was the cause and what was the result?

Such an amazing ask, thank you so much and so sorry it took me literal ages to respond! So, about fights...

Oh no, Vitani would never get into a physical fight with anyone. They are not built for it. Any of the tiefling kids would probably down them. 8 constitution/strength baby. Constantly losing against stronger winds.

I do headcanon them butting heads with Lae’zel quite a lot at the beginning. Constantly, about everything. From freeing Shadowheart on the nautiloid, to helping the grove and defending the Last Light Inn. It stops after their visit to the creche, where Lae’zel gets a bit of a reality check.

Also Astarion. He has a field day laughing off their naivete and idealism, while Vitani will never stand for his disregard of life other than his own and his blatant racism. Things change between them later on, of course, but I do imagine a few arguments between them before they decide not to talk to each other for days.

They do become very close friends at the end though, all those arguments did open Vitani's eyes to some matters and Astarion did become more considerate thanks to their influence.

Adeim...is a different kind of person. He knows how to fight and has a punch to back up arguments with when needed, but... he tries not to. He is prone to intimidation tactics, although would never harm his travelling companions.

Until he has control over what he does, that is. Urges aside, I headcanon him to have sudden bouts of anger. Totally controllable outside of combat, just another thing that comes with genes from father’s side…

That being said, yeah, he gets into a lot of arguments around camp. He is not an easy person to get along with; he is a rather inflexible when it comes to his beliefs. He absolutely does not tolerate Astarion because of his vampirism, he doesn’t trust Shadowheart because of her Shar worship, he is distrustful of Wyll when he founds out he is a warlock.

Hells, even his mad respect for Lae’zel doesn’t stop him from picking arguments over their course of action.

And I imagine the rest aren’t fans of his “my way or the highway” attitude at the beginning, but…you know, when you start murdering in your sleep, it kind of becomes a very humbling experience.

He’ll have a lot to apologise for later on and let’s leave this at that :D

Seriosuly, don't do that. Don't piss Adeim off. He's already on edge, got a murderous goblin running in his head telling him to...slice things up a bit. And he doesn't want to, but he also has a very sharp blade.

Just...don't. He's scary and a bit crazy.

Trick: Do Vitani and Adeim ever wear any (metaphorical) masks? What do those masks hide?

Aaah, Vitani is out of sweets so it's trick for them!

Vitani hides a lot of fear and uncertainty behind smiles and self-deprecating laughs. Forcing themselves to be brave for the sake of others while absolutely crying in a fetal position inside.

Adeim totally has sweets in his pockets, so treat it is!

Adeim would go all out with a masquarade outfit. He would choose the fanciest golden mask adorned with feathers (probably would pluck a few from his own wings so they would match, little psycho that he is), and choose the flowiest, flashiest robes he can get and would fit his physique. He isn't vain, just...likes to stand out :D
