re: aesir women’s traditional clothing

looking at the thor movies, as well as other viking/norse media i have compiled a...series of headcanons regarding aesir clothing ( with credit to @brvesouls​ for helping me come up with all of these ). and i thought it was relevant to share because of the oc i write...some other time i will share headcanons about vanir clothes

initially when i looked at them i thought that they had a very roman style to them, and while they certainly do, especially jane’s outfits in tdw, hwoever, as i looked at other media and frigga’s wardrobe, and the background characters i formed some opinions regarding their clothing. 

so the upperclass women ( yes this is very specific and i will explain more later ) seem to have outfits consisting of some form of main dress and a palla ( a loose outer draping worn by women in the ancient world specifically rome ) the dress could either be sleeveless or as we see with many of frigga’s gowns, long sleeved. 

now looking at that it seemed like a a really huge difference between the two styles. not just in the way frigga seems to wear her wrap ( either loosely around her arms or tucked into her armor which seems largely ornamental ) save one scene where they are worn in the same manner. but stylistically there is a huge jump between the two sleeve styles. looking at other norse inspired media ( though heavily stylized ) i found dresses like these: 

where the sleeves tie on and off ( like the gowns l*crezia wears in the b*rgias as well ) and it seems to fit the general styles and the removable sleeves seem to make up the difference between the two. it’s also another instance where extra fabric, or a wrap is added to a gown. of course some might have just been short sleeved like jane’s mourning gown which was and had another layer draped on top. over all, the fabrics seem to be heavier, and usually patterned. the weight makes sense seeing as it snows in at least one of the movies. 

other than that there seems to be a difference between upper class and servants’ gowns as seen in background characters like these upper class ones:

seem to be the ones who wear the multiple layers and the draped fabric whereas the serving women seem to wear more single layer gowns as seen in the fake odin scene in the beginning of ra*narok

I wrote 2500 words today. Still in act 1, where Narok is a teenager and pre-transition.

I love his cousin, Inana, with my whole heart. She's his best friend and the only one who knows he's trans (in the beginning). They were raised as "sisters" and share everything.

Pls note that Inana is considered very short for a Canite. Most of them are over 5'8". I don't know how tall she actually is and I'm too afraid to calculate.
