5/30/2024 - Costume

Today's prompt was literally perfect for my other (yes, another) NorRayEmma-fanchild, Luucy, in her first major role as Odette in Swan Lake, with her starring in a very feathery, light costume, despite being slightly lilac coloured, appearing snow white under the spotlight. The role of the entchanted Swan Princess is one of Luucy's most beloved, also heavily because of the simple, yet beautiful costume she did wear as a child.

PSA + RANT

Is anyone else feeling really nervous about the upcoming Tolkien OC week? I honestly don't know what I'm doing at this point. I still have more than a week left to finish all my writing and I already know I'll barely be able to post in time. It usually takes me months to get one chapter done and I'm writing as quickly as I can, but the writing is just...not good. I'm churning out paragraphs every day and the urge to delete everything is just too overwhelming. I change my mind every five minutes (no surprise here), and the more I keep writing, the more I realize I probably made a huge mistake in taking part in this. I realized I really need a lot of time to write in a way that actually pleases me and makes me happy and I'd honestly be glad if no one read what I'm going to post because most of the stuff I put down so far makes my stomach churn. I need time and I need several rewrites to even begin to like something.

I'm still going to post since I promised some very nice people I would tag them. But I think it's the very first and also the very last time that I'm going to participate into something like this AS A WRITER. I'll of course read other people's work and comment.

To those who will read my one-shots: expect random, trashy stuff and treat it as such. I know I can do much, much better.

OC WEEK DAY 6

Childhood

I uhh...don't have much. To be honest, judging by the worst day of his life, on day two of this challenge, you can probably guess it wasn't great.

So I also decided to throw in stuff about his culture and stuff! Why not?

Childhood

Taurn's childhood was primarily spent being trained and educated in the ways of war and tactics by his father's word. While his mother and sister were often very kind and affectionate towards him no matter what, he failed to gain the warmth of his father unless he excelled. And when he failed, he met his wrath.

Taurn dedicated his life to becoming strong enough to do what he believed an emperor ought to do: protect and serve the people and defend them from anyone who dared to threaten them. The only problem is that he also felt he needed to do all of this himself.

Culture and Homeland

Taurn's country of Bovent is one in the rugged, warm mountains. It's entire culture is built around being strong, skilled, or knowledgeable enough to support the empire and fight in their honor. In a perfect world, anyone would be given the tools they needed to be able to achieve these goals, but...that's not the case. The strong hold most of the power, and they use that power to push down the weak. Fun times.

In addition to trying to conquer its neighbors in the past, it's also been seen using slaves or underpaid workers in order to mine a powerful metal they've dubbed "blacksteel" which makes up a majority of their weapons. This process is incredibly dangerous and cruel, and yet the nobles done often care. After all, it allows them to be stronger.

Taurn was surprisingly ignorant of how unfair the country was. He firmly believed the propaganda that everyone in life has the chance to show their might and be able to make their own path just like the people have been telling him.

OC Week: Day 2 "Worst Day"

The Waiting

The city the leviship finally touched down in was cold, so cold that she could feel it long before the cargo hold was opened up.

The light that poured in was cold, too, and so bright that it hurt her eyes.

Hissing and bristling, with her ears back and her tail puffed into a brush, Leda bared her teeth at the men who came to unload the ship's "cargo," yanking furiously - and to no avail - at the chain tethering her to the floor of her tiny cage. The only thing she got for her efforts was a violent shaking when one of the men kicked the cage onto its side.

"Shut your yap, you mangy animal!" he spat, giving her one last kick for good measure before two others yanked her up off the floor by the box's handles and carted her out onto the dock.

There, she was tossed unceremoniously onto the waiting deck of a heavy wooden cart with several others. The men paced back and forth, bringing out more cages and stacking them up in the cart, until she was very nearly buried, surrounded by the sounds and stench of fear and misery.

And she couldn't see Mara anywhere.

Then the cart's back gate was hauled up into place with a heavy thump, there was a violent lurch, and they were moving again - to where, she didn't know, and she didn't want to know. All she wanted was to get out.

But there was no "out," not anymore, and all Leda could do was huddle on her knees, bowed over with her forehead to the floor, and wait.

The waiting, she thought, was the worst part.

OC Week Day 5: Weapons/Powers

Baby boy is brimming with supernatural powers! If only he had better control over them and wasn’t haunted.

Wow, I remembered to draw his glasses (pretend they’re even) this time and look at how bright & happy he was before Wyatt happened to him!

*No, he’s not a priest; he’s wearing his custom uniform and a type of incognito collar he’d typically wear that looks more like jewelry.

These abilities develop more as he ages, and he doesn’t have the best relationship with all of them, but they were enough to impress a dying old wealthy lady and snag his first posting!

I won’t divulge anything that’s a spoiler, but his relationship with his abilities changes throughout his character journey. I will save the meta-analysis and use of metaphors and just do a simple run-through of each ability and rate them out of 5 stars for how much control he has over it and how useful he thinks it is.

I would consider all of these to fall under the umbrella of Extrasensory Perception (ESP). There are many terms for these abilities, and by no means is this a thorough rundown of them; this is just what they mean and how they work for him specifically! Also, just because he has these abilities doesn’t mean he always listens to them; in fact, sometimes he works against them out of spite, but they come back to bite him in the ass!

Clairsentience/Telepathic Empathy

Control: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Usefulness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is his primary ability, and it is the one that he’s had since he was a small child. Therefore, it’s the one he has the most control over and one that he thinks is the most useful. He can’t read everyone the same; some people emote more than others, while others don't at all. This one runs in the background most of the time; he can usually turn it on or off, but not always. He’s most sensitive to others’ emotions he doesn’t feel himself or has never experienced. He’s discovered that most people have a “baseline” emotion, whether happy, depressive, content, or apathetic (etc), that usually colors their emotional ranges. He doesn’t like to use people’s emotions against them, but if he needs to, he will.

Claircognizant

Control: 0

Usefulness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This just means he has heightened intuition and usually navigates life through incoming vibes. These come to him, and he reacts accordingly; he has no control over what he receives as input. This usually comes across as him “knowing things he shouldn’t” and having a strong gut feeling to do XYZ. It can be something as simple as an inkling to grab an extra utensil. He may not know why at the time, but when he drops a fork—hey, look, he has an extra one. This one isn’t usually that deep, and he doesn’t always get them. These are more sporadic and very inconsistent. He may have a day where he gets one or two, or several, and then go weeks or months without.

Precognition

Control: 0

Usefulness: ⭐️

He occasionally gets glimpses of the future—it may not even be his future. He has no control over the visions he receives, and this ability is very weak. He does not like this one and has a lot of self-hatred about it. Visions come to him while awake or asleep. They are very unreliable and happen rarely.

Psycometry

Control: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Usefulness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Psycometry is the ability to receive glimpses of the past through objects. This is his favorite nifty trick, but it is not one that can not be applied to all objects. Only emotionally charged things carry a memory attached to them. It takes a lot of mental discipline to get a reading, and it is not always clear, but glimpsing in the past has its rewards. This is a tough trick to master and has come in clutch a time or two.

Haunted

Control: ⭐️

Usefulness: 0

Being haunted is a bad time. It comes with no perks—well, unless he counts having his abilities siphoned out of him by the prowling sleep paralysis demon that has claimed him as its feeding ground (which he sometimes does see as a positive). As if having a personal paranormal parasite wasn’t enough, sometimes he hears disembodied voices or catches glimpses of ghostly swooshing in his peripheral. His only form of control is ignoring things or repeating an affirmation mantra and hoping they fuck right off.

Many things can affect his abilities, including mental & physical state (especially anxiety), medication (these usually dull his control or take away his ability to read people), substances like drugs and alcohol (can heighten—think bad trip), lack of sleep, starvation, headaches, sickness, foods, (number of) people he’s around, exhaustion, etc.
