Postcards from Snagglepuss
Ocean City, we have arrived!
The time: Wednesday evening before Springfest in Ocean City, Maryland, at a second-rate seafood buffet still managing to hang in there on Coastal Highway (alias Maryland 528), the main drag of the popular East Coast resort. Four blocks wide by ten miles long, all the way to the Delaware line even, and nothing of that bane of many East Coast beach resorts known as "beach tax" pins to be affixed to one's swimwear!
The purpose thereof: That aggregation of fellow Hanna-Barbera Funtastics otherwise known as a Character Convocation, timed to coincide with the Ocean City Springfest celebration the weekend ahead. Essentially Ocean City's way of warming up for the summer season ahead with a mix of free concerts and craft and arts shows over at the Inlet Lot, practically on the south side of town, even!
But we're basically here at the beginning to develop what's basically our strategy: More or less a "meet-and-greet", even posing with fellow guests at Springfest and, to some extent, on Ocean City's Boardwalk. Some likely scattered about along the Ten Miles of Free Public Beaches, as Maryland's Official State Highways Map notes in the inset map for OC, as such across the Eastern Seaboard like to refer thus.
Absence of a parade notwithstanding, as well as being unable to get time on the free stage as is part of Springfest (made even more peeved by its closing at 10 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 8 pm on the Sunday), a couple of coffeehouses along Coastal Highway were willing to have The Banana Splits and the Cattanooga Cats accomodate for some all-night concerts and jam sessions to accomodate such wanting some amusements after the Springfest grounds close, especially as it's bound to be chilly on the Eastern Shore well into early May--even with some sun.
Oh, and need I mention about many of our characters bound to make "meet-and-greet," pose for selfies even, appearances throughout the main tourist venues in those ten miles of Ocean City--especially so on Ocean City's Boardwalk (which, come to think of it, will be not so much walkabout as maybe sitting on benches alongside said Boardwalk and getting tourists and Springfest visitors to sit and chat with your favourite Funtastic types ... hardly to be expected at the Disney parks), or even on Ocean City buses ($3 buys an all-day pass), catching up with fans old and new, even if it means having to hold a handrail and stand for dear life ... and need we forget about the beach itself?
At any rate, "the night ahead" is one of those things certain to bring us characters together as one over dinner as much as knowing what rounds you're bound to make in Character Convocation mode. Oh, and did I mention the pop-up hospitality room for us characters, for coffee, donuts, salt water taffy, and just checking in even?!
You never can tell how interesting things are bound to get, and more will be forthcoming in this space. Exit, stage left ...

Choi Jisu.
Interestingly, I don’t actually know Jisu personally. I only know of her. She’s a year older than me and I only recognize her because she was dating an upperclassman from my high school when he became a student here. She was always tagging him in their photos together.
I scoff. No wonder I hadn’t been seeing those lately. She has a new man. I sigh. Small world.
I select her profile and begin clicking through her viewable photos. Jisu is an avid photo taker – and not the artistic kind. She’s the kind that clearly demonstrates the need to post about everything she does for social, and ultimately, external validation – as illustrated by her endless number of publicly available photo albums, allowing me to quickly discover that she participates in beauty pageants… and wins.
And as I juggle all that information, it starts to make sense. She’s used to being the center of attention. In fact, she likes being the center of attention and being treated like she’s important, hence her behavior regarding Jaemin opening the door for her. She has “high maintenance” written all over her.
As I continue browsing through her photos, I notice that all of the pictures she had with the guy from my high school are gone. Jisu clearly likes publicizing all of her relationships while she’s in them… and then quickly deleting any evidence of them as soon as they’re over as if they never even happened.
Wouldn’t that bother her? Having all 700 of her Facebook friends be able to pinpoint when she started a new relationship and with whom. One boyfriend after another – someone who clearly has difficulties being alone. It’s common for a lot of people, but why would you want everyone to know?
Her second most recent album that’s titled “Third Year – Summer” is where I find the photos of relevance – the photos showcasing her new and blooming romance with Jaemin. Most of them are pretty standard: dinner outings and various dates to the park and ice cream parlor.
My nostrils flare as I glare at the screen. That scumbag. Blatantly flirting with me when he has a girlfriend that he has conveniently left out of every conversation we’ve ever had!
I don’t know what to do with this information.
Wow, Jaemin! You probably thought you were so slick – and I’ll admit, you had me there for a second! But you made the mistake of bringing her home and coincidentally, I happen to know her. That last bit isn’t your fault, but really, what are the chances in a school with thousands of people?
I am not okay with this! We’ve already had an experience of a guy with a girlfriend flirting with me and it didn’t end well!
Am I just supposed to back off? But I didn’t do anything. I’m not even supposed to know anything!
I huff in irritation. I genuinely need help in physics and Jaemin has been quite helpful the last couple times I asked him. I conclude that I have two options: continue what I’ve been doing and act like I know nothing or find a new physics tutor.
The first option is purely convenient since he lives right down the hall and I know he can help, but it tests my moral conscience. The second option is more work on my part because I’d have to go through the tedious task of finding a new person and determining whether or not they’re any good.
But then I ask myself another question: am I actually doing anything wrong? I’m not the one who’s flirting. I can’t control how he acts around me. I’m not even supposed to know about this… but my conscience reminds me that I unfortunately do know about this.
Goddamn. Why’d I have to be home at this time?
Screw my conscience, I need help. My grade is more important and the flirting is kind of flattering.
And that’s the thing about the supposed “ignorance is bliss”: it can be taken away from you at any time, without your consent.

Hydroxyl groups are alcohols including methanol, ethanol, etc. They are polar and can form hydrogen bonds. Have the ability to assist in dissolving compounds such as sugars.
A carbonyl group is a carbon atom connected to an oxygen atom via a double bond.
I roll my eyes and chuck my highlighter to the side, sighing in annoyance as I look around the empty dining room. I’m so lame. It’s Friday night and I’m sitting at home studying.
Despite having adjusted a bit better at the beginning of my second year, I still haven’t made many friends that I can hang out with. The “friends” I have are mostly acquaintances – classmates that I could contact if I ever need anything for class. That’s why I was quite thrilled that Jaemin seemed pretty cool and that he actually liked spending time with me. But I’m not sure how I feel about this new revelation. Based on the superficial facts, I have qualms to pick with his moral compass.
So I started contemplating other housemates I was interested in getting to know – people I could come home to and hang out with in the common rooms. Jaemin’s other roommate – Jeno – seemed worth speaking to. Renjun is polite, but he’s built a nearly impenetrable wall to his friendship. Perhaps he’s just more comfortable with guys.
I turn my head when Jeno walks into the dining room. We make eye contact for several seconds before he turns away and continues into the kitchen. That’s how it always is with him. He’s always expressionless when he looks at me, but his eyes appear to betray him with that lingering glance that tells me he knows something.
I hear the opening of cabinets, the clanging of pots and pans followed by the stove fan being turned on.
I don’t know what’s so scary about going up to new people – like you’re constantly afraid of being judged for talking to them. I know they don’t care, but this feels different considering Jeno and I have seen each other many times, never acknowledging each other, just… staring.
Jeno? He’s nice. You should introduce yourself to him!
Jaemin’s encouraging words convince me to get up from my seat and walk into the kitchen. Jeno is standing in front of the stove, cutting vegetables. Slowly, I walk up to him, tilting my head and peering up at him. He jumps a bit when he turns around, startled by my sudden appearance.
“Hi,” I say with a smile. “Um, you’re Jaemin’s roommate, right?”
“Yeah!” He returns a wide grin. “I’m Jeno.”
“Hi, I’m Y/N.”
He extends his hand out to me, barely gripping my hand – almost as if he’s afraid he’ll break it – and lightly shaking it up and down.
“Jaemin told me you’re a chemistry major?”
“Yeah, how about you?”
“Biology.”
We proceed to ask each other the standard series of questions: Where are you from? What classes are you taking this semester? Are you part of any clubs?
And of course, I always mention my struggles with physics because I’m half hoping he’ll have another suggestion in case I decide I want to jump the Jaemin-ship.
“Oh yeah, I took physics last semester,” he responds. “It was terrible because I hate math so I’m taking a break this semester. You should ask Jaemin for help. He’s much better at it than me.”
Goddammit.
“Yeah, I’ve been asking him for help. He’s been helpful…”
A silence passes between us and when I look up at Jeno again, he has this weird look on his face. The corner of his mouth is upturned and his eyes are – well, they look like they’re undressing me. And then I realize that it’s nearly identical to that mischievous look Jaemin has.
Good Lord, do all three of you have the same look?
Actually, you know what? I don’t want to find out.
“I’ll let you get back to cooking,” I say, abruptly heading towards the door. “It was nice meeting you.”
Tumblr media
What were you doing?” Jia asks when I return to our room towards the end of Saturday night.
“I was doing my physics problem set and studying for the bio midterm next week.”
“Ooh,” she coos suggestively. “Were you with Jaemin?”
“No. He’s going to help me tomorrow because went to a football game tonight.”
Hmm… I bet Jisu was there with him.
There’s a stupid grin on her face when I turn to look at her. “Do you like him?”
“No.”
“Really? You guys look like you get along really well.”
“Yeah, he’s fun to hang out with.”
“But you don’t like him?”
“No.”
“But –”
Thankfully Jia’s laptop starts ringing. Her parents are calling her from Beijing. I excuse myself, grabbing my laptop, phone, and water bottle to sit in the little inlet in the hallway until she gets off her call.
I know she suspects something and her inexperience with boys is what naturally makes her curious. According to her, she’s never had a crush on anyone. Not sure I totally believe that. And she’s not aware of anyone who has ever had a crush on her. Actually, she’s never had any guy friends and had once asked me how you communicate with them, her tone almost implying that they were an alien species. Like I said, she’s been quite sheltered most of her life. So she’s slowly learning things. I only wish I wouldn’t have to be the one she asks to tell her what a blowjob is.
When I left my room, I noticed that Jaemin’s door was cracked open. Actually, it’s always cracked open like that. And normally, it’s quiet, but tonight, I quickly learn, is a much different story.
“My girlfriend fucked up the pizza,” Jaemin says disdainfully.
So she was at the game…
“How do you fuck up pizza?” Jeno asks.
“She got cheddar pizza.”
“Cheddar pizza?”
“It doesn’t taste bad.” I hear the microwave door slam. “But it still tastes kinda weird. She also gave me a bunch of coupons.”
“For what?” Jeno asks.
“This one says ‘fifteen minutes of oral.’”
I nearly spit out my water. The hell?
“Fifteen minutes?!” Jeno responds in disbelief. “Can you even last fifteen minutes?!”
“Shut up!”
“Wait, maybe you can see if it can be fifteen minutes total,” Renjun says. “So if it takes you ten times to get to the fifteen –”
“You fucking –”
The rest of Jaemin’s crude response is muffled due to a loud crash. I imagine he threw something at Renjun given that Renjun and Jeno are uncontrollably laughing and I have to cover my mouth to prevent myself from laughing out loud.
“But yeah,” Jaemin continues. “She gives me these coupons like, ‘You win this fight,’ ‘I won’t get mad when you fall asleep on me,’ ‘I won’t complain when you say you say you want to hang out with your guy friends’ –”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Jeno interrupts. “She won’t complain when you say you want to hang out with your guy friends? Isn’t that sorta… shouldn’t that be a given?”
There’s a look of horror on my face as I process what I’ve just heard. Jisu sounds… let’s just say I would not want to be dating her.
“Exactly! She’s crazy!” Jaemin exclaims. “If I spend more time with her, I get more of these things and they’re kind of useful. But I don’t want to spend more time with her…”
“I didn’t really talk to her at the game, but she didn’t seem like she was enjoying it much,” Jeno says.
I purse my lips and run my tongue along my front teeth, completely stunned and quite frankly, somewhat amused that I happened to be out here at the time they were discussing this.
Wow, Jaemin, that sounds like a really secure relationship. Congratulations. If you hate her so much, why are you even dating – oh – the fifteen minutes…
All of these revelations were a disappointing confirmation. First, Jaemin actually does have a girlfriend. He said the G word himself. Second, Jisu is just as high maintenance as I had been able to analyze from her photos. And third, Jaemin is a liar! Well, actually, he hasn’t lied to me. He’s just conveniently left things out.
The alarm bells in my head have started ringing off the hook. At first, they were just there in the background, an occasional beep to warn of a possible danger. But I think now is safe to say that he’s a flirt – and he’s good at hiding it. That’s what makes him so dangerous.
Tumblr media
The next afternoon after meeting with Jaemin, I had scheduled a call with Mark. We finally managed to figure out a time that worked for both of us and I had insisted that it was quite important. I was quite irked as I had actually confirmed that third assumption from last night.
I walk up the stairs shortly before my call time, taking note of Jaemin’s door slightly ajar again. As I near my door, I pause when I hear Renjun’s voice.
“Where’s Jaemin?”
“I think he’s out with –”
Dammit. Did he say Jisu?
“Again?”
“Yeah, he hasn’t been very happy lately,” Jeno responds.
“He should just break up with her,” Renjun says.
I continue onto my room, trying to make my footsteps almost silent to make sure they don’t suspect anyone is listening to them, but I nearly drop my things after hearing Renjun’s next question.
“Do you know anything about Y/N?”
“I talked to her once. She’s nice. I think Jaemin likes her though. She’s pretty attractive.”
“Do you think she knows about –?”
“I don’t know –
Suddenly, I hear someone coming up the stairs and shortly thereafter, one of my neighbors rounds the corner. I make eye contact with her, realizing how weird it is for me to be standing in the middle of the hallway. Quickly, I begin acting like I’m shifting my things into one arm in an attempt to grab my keys.
– Probably not. Jaemin never brings her here.”
“Hey, Y/N!” she greets.
Fuck.
“Hi…”
I turn away quickly, tapping the key fob against my door and run inside.
Tumblr media
“No, Mark, I’m serious! He has a girlfriend!”
“How’d you find out?”
I relay to him my story from last week – walking by Jaemin’s room and overhearing Jisu by happenstance, strategizing my method of figuring out who she was, the Facebook discovery, the coupons…
“And he’s been flirting with you like that? And spending three plus hours with you helping you do your homework?” he asks in disbelief. “Yo, Y/N, this guy sounds like trash.”
“He was helping me with physics today and I asked him who he went to the football game with and he said he only went with his roommates. He lied straight through his teeth!”
“I mean, it’s not like he’d actually tell you. He hasn’t told you before.”
“I kept trying to ask him some questions that would easily allow him to say something about it, but he never did.” I purse my lips. “He’s not stupid though. He probably knew I was fishing for information.”
“Wait, wait, wait, I have another question, Y/N. Who gives coupons like that?!”
“Uh… an insecure person?”
Mark lets out a loud sigh. “I mean – I – I can understand giving out coupons for like… a massage or to cook their favorite dinner. You know? Something cute like that. But these are just weird.”
Clicking my tongue, I respond, “Yeah, that was my conclusion. He doesn’t seem to like her very much though. Not sure why he doesn’t just break up with her.”
“Yo, he’s probably scared.”
“I was just hoping that you wouldn’t also confirm that he sounds like trash.”
“Why? Do you like him?”
“No, I’m not interested in dating him. I think he’s fun to hang around and I want to be his friend, but I feel like that’ll be kinda complicated.”
“Do you know what his girlfriend is like?”
“Only from what I’ve seen and overheard. She sounds –” I scrunch my face is displeasure “– high maintenance. She does beauty pageants… and wins.”
“So she’s pretty,” he concludes.
“Yeah, she’s pretty. I don’t really know why he’s interested me if he’s dating this pageant girl.”
“What are you talking about? Y/N, have you looked in a mirror? You’re really pretty,” he says. “And I’m not just saying that because I’m your friend.”
I’m thankful that Mark can’t see my expression since we’re talking on the phone.
“I met his roommate the other day. I don’t – I don’t know how I feel about him. He was looking at me like he was undressing me.”
“See! I told you!”
“But Mark, he’s a college guy. He’s probably interested in sleeping with any girl that’s at least a seven and is okay with ‘no strings attached.’”
Mark is silent for a moment.
“Y/N?”
“What?”
“You know that you just admitted that you’re at least a seven, right?”
“…your point?”
“I’m just saying! Anyway, you know that there’s only one reason why Jaemin wouldn’t tell you he has a girlfriend, right?”
I have a feeling I know what the reason is, but I entertain Mark’s question.
“What’s that?”
“That he’s looking for someone else… someone else meaning you.”

Run Away - Chapter 14
Tumblr media
Characters: OC/Oh Sehun/Exo
Genre: Romance, Angst, Fluff
Summary: An aspiring western model and a tired of stardom kpop star find their ways clashing in Seoul.
A/N: The gifs are getting more and more random because I can’t find anything that fits the mood properly :/
PART 1
PART 13
For the next couple of weeks after that, I barely got to see Sehun, except for the occasional time he would quickly drop by the café to grab something to eat, but the virtual contact was actually more frequent than ever. He called me almost every day and texted me whenever he had a chance to pick up his phone. He made sure to tell me about his day and ask me about mine and made me send him a message when I got home if I had to work a late shift.
It was all starting to feel a bit too couple-like, considering we had never really spoken about being such. I couldn't say I didn't like it; I had spent quite a lot of time on my own since mom went away and I didn't really expect for things to be much different once in Korea, so I was actually grateful for having first MinSeo and then, seemingly, Sehun in my life, actually caring about me. Besides, since the visit we payed to them, my grandparents, especially Grandma, were much less moody. Our phone calls had become more usual and she hardly ever bickered anymore. She started asking about Sehun instead, whether or not we were together already and when we would be visiting again. Grandma was completely out of character and I was not complaining.
Gracie-fish
We've already talked about, Sehunnie
Okay, okay.  I was just wondering how busy would you be this weekend
I think I only have a morning shift on Saturday, why?
Oh, I actually have both days free and kinda wanted to spend them with you...
Just kinda. Okay. Don't you have any interviews, rehearsals, signings, photoshoots, videoshoots, etc., etc., to do?
Not a single appointment
That sounds awesome. What do you want to do?
I had thought about taking you to the beach. My treat
Wow, really? I'd love to, I haven't been to the beach for ages!
It's still a bit too cold to think of swimming, but fresh air is always nice. What time is your shift over on Saturday?
I should be out at 2 in the afternoon.
Perfect. I'll pick you up at the café then. I have to go now, they're scolding me again for using the phone, ugh...
With such a prospective for the weekend, the couple of days left until Saturday went by much faster.
******
When Sehun came into the café a bit before my shift was over, I noticed he was not carrying any helmets. Instead, his "incognito" cap was on top of his head along with the usual pair of dark glasses. Before coming up to meet me, he stopped by one of the other counters and ordered a couple of bottles of soft drink and some sandwiches.
"Hey, Gracie," he smiled once he was close to me and ignored my rolling eyes. "I thought you probably wouldn't have had lunch, so I've just bought this to share during the trip."
"The trip on the motorbike?"
"I got Baekhyun to lend me his car for the weekend. He borrowed my bike in exchange and I'm more worried now than I was when I let your grandfather ride it, but whatever," he shrugged. "I will be waiting for you inside the car, it's parked a couple streets down this one, it's dark blue with tinted windows. So, finish whatever you're doing and hurry up!"
Half an hour later, we had already stopped by my apartment to grab my bag and were in the highway, headed towards the beach.
"So where are we going exactly?" I asked as I unwrapped one of the sandwiched and started taking bites of it.
"To the beach." Sehun smiled to himself, very self-satisfied. "Don't you trust me enough not to think I'm a psychopath already?"
"I thought it was normal for people to know where they are travelling to..."
"That still doesn't answer the question." I chewed my bite of sandwich impossibly slow. "We're going to Gangneung."
"Isn't that like, on the other side of the country?"
"It is, but it just takes around two hours to get there. My country is super small in comparison to yours..."
"Yeah, it is. Sometimes I forget people here don't need to take a plane to go travel across the country... Is there any reason why we are going there?" I asked. "I thought there are beaches just half an hour away from Seoul."
"There are. People from Seoul usually go to Busan, but I think the coast in the east is much nicer," he explained. "Besides, I used to go there with my family when I was young and kind of know the place..."
The more time we spent together, the more Sehun managed to surprise me. Obviously, the prize was taken by that day he insisted in coming with me to meet my grandparents, but taking me to the place where he used to spend the holidays with his family as a kid was really sweet...
"Hey," he called to snap me out of my thoughts, eyeing the sandwich that was still in between my hands. "Do you remember I told you those were for sharing? I haven't had lunch either."
I unwrapped the other sandwich and handed it out to him, but instead of grabbing it, he just smiled slyly.
"Oh, I care too much about our security to take one hand out of the steering wheel...I'm afraid you are going to have to feed me bites of sandwich."
"We are going to get everything covered in bread crumbs... Are you going to get your friend's car covered all dirty? He's lent it to you with all his good intentions!"
"He still has to make up for picking on me the other day when you met them." He kind of had a point.
"I can drive a car and this one has an automatic engine. Not buying it, Sehunnie." And so I grabbed his right hand off the wheel and put the sandwich on it. "I'm going to open the bottle for you, but just because I'm feeling generous today."
We spent the rest of the trip mocking each other and talking about random stuff. At some point, he turned the radio on. He would just follow the rhythm of the songs with his head and tapping on the wheel, but when a song I knew came up, I would sing with all my might. I honestly wanted to test how much I was able to shock him, but my badly belted out notes only earned me a few laughs and a quite categorical claim.
"You do sound like a beached whale." Then, he joined me and time flew by as we competed to see who could sing the songs worse.
*****
Gangneung was a pretty small town just next to the mouth of a river. It looked like a very touristic place, but it wasn't very busy, probably because it was the middle of April instead of summer.
"I thought this would be like a super small, picturesque village placed next to a lost inlet..." I commented as I saw the multiple restaurants and shops in the main street of the town.
"This looks pretty picturesque to me. And it's kind of difficult to get a nice hotel room in a village which population consists of five people and two cows, you know...But don't worry, I'm going to show you something pretty unusual, you're going to love it."
He drove up until the outskirt of the town, stopped the car and made me look towards a particular direction. There, on top of a cliff and among the trees, was a cruise boat.
"What the hell is that thing doing there!?" I asked startled.
"Don't freak out," he laughed. "It's actually just a hotel."
"But it's huge!"
"The same size and shape as a cruise boat. I bet it looks pretty cool when there's a storm in the sea and the waves are super high..."
We spent a while there, sitting on top of the car, next to the sea, looking at the weird boat-hotel.
"What if we go to leave this in our room and then we go out to have a walk?"
"Are we staying there?"
"No, not really. But considering how excited you are right now, maybe I should have made the reservation there..."
****
Our actual hotel ended up being much nicer than the boat one. It was very small, barely three floors tall, and just in front of the beach. The bellboy took us to our room and I could see it was big and spacious and it had a huge balcony headed towards the beach. When Sehun tipped the man, he closed the door behind him and came into the room. I had left my bag over an armchair, but he left his on top of the full sized bed, which made us both stare awkwardly at the piece of furniture while probably similar thoughts ran through our heads.
"So what about that walk?" I asked to break the silence.
Sehun and I spent a very calm afternoon walking up and down the town. He showed me around and told me lots of stories relevant to the place, most of them with his brother and he as the main characters. He seemed to have spent a very happy childhood. We also came into one of those souvenir shops and bought a pair of silly hats with the typical "I love..." and wore it out even it wasn't really necessary, as the sun was already setting. Then, in the evening, we strolled along the seafront, looking for a place to have dinner. He chose the restaurant, but this time I forced him to let me pay. It was the least I could do against the improvised vacations he had organized.
"I like being here," he commented as we came back to the hotel after dinner, walking barefoot on the beach.
"Me too. The weather is much softer."
"That's not exactly what I meant," he laughed. "It's much calmer here than Seoul. There's been a couple people who have stopped to look at me, but I don't know if they didn't recognize me or they didn't want to come closer. We've been all afternoon walking around here and it's been very calm. I just enjoy the silence sometimes."
"That's weird, I've always thought of you as a city boy."
"I used to be, but now I'm not anymore. I would've moved away from Seoul if I didn't have a responsibility with the company..."
I saw his gaze divert from the sea shore to the sun to the darkened horizon and back again, and his eyes were showing the same kind of sad melancholy I felt when he invited me to his home. I took two big steps ahead to place myself in front of him, to stop him from moving further, with my hand on my hips.
"Sehun!" He looked at me, questioningly. "Look at this place. This is our small vacation. This is no time to be sad!" As he still didn't say a word, I switched to a more offensive approach. "Sehunnie!" I used both my hands to pinch his cheeks, ignoring the alarmed expression in the rest of his face hearing me baby talk. "There's no need to be sad! We will solve our problems later, don't you think? Hmm? Can you do it for me, please?" I pouted and I was able to see signs of laughter appearing on his face, but he couldn't fully laugh because of his pinched cheeks. "Besides, right now we are going to play a game! Do you want to play a game with me, Sehunnie?"
He nodded quickly and I let go of his face.
"See all this water? All this water feels so lonely, because right now no one is swimming in it. See these waves? They're trying to reach us, because they want to hug us." I started to remove my clothes as I talked. "Don't you think it is a shame that the whole sea is so sad, waiting for us to step into it, Sehunnie? We're going to do something to make it feel better!"
Sehun stepped closer to me and looked around us to check there was no one on sight.
"It's not even May now. And it's almost 10 in the night. You're going to catch a cold."
"No, we are gonna catch a cold!" Once I only had my t-shirt and my jeans still on, I started to unbutton the light coat he had on.
He didn't stop me, but he looked at me very attentively, with an expression I couldn't quite decipher, as if he wanted to tell me off, but was, at the same time, having fun with my idea. When I finished with the row of buttons I tried to take it off, but it was certainly difficult to do with his arms completely stuck to the sides of his body.
"Come on, Sehun! Work with me!" I raised my eyes at him pleadingly. "How long has it been since the last time you did something without caring who might have been looking or what could happen later?"
Sehun's lips were pursed, trying to hide the fact he was smiling, but at the first glimpse of surrender I was able to catch on his face, I knew I had won. I separated his arms from his body and took off his coat, which fell onto the sand, just like the rest of my clothes. Then I took off his jacket and his shoes, and we were both left in the same conditions. I looked down at my own body.
"There are the only pair of jeans I've brought, I don't want them to get all stiff from the salt." I removed my pants. "And there's absolutely no point in keeping the t-shirt then."
With a swift move, I removed the upper part as well and was left only in my underwear. The soft sea breeze made my skin full of goosebumps. Then, I turned to face him, with my arms crossed over my chest.
"Come on. I'm sure you don't want to ruin all those pretty designer clothes of yours!"
He did as I said, with half a smile on his face and his eyes never leaving mine. When he finally stepped out of his trousers I hopped out of excitement, grabbed his hand and ran towards the sea. To be honest, I was excited, but also freezing. Our toes touched the cold water and that made me stop immediately.
"Not so convinced now, hmm, Gracie?" He mocked me.
"If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have dared to come close to the water, Sehunnie. But you know what, I dare you. We both have to get into the water, but the last one to be able to get their head wet, looses."
"What does the looser loose?"
"The looser has to wake up early tomorrow to go and get breakfast and bring it back to the room for the winner."
"Deal," he said and then started running into the water.
It took me no time to react and run after him. Whimpers began coming out of my mouth when the water reached the middle of my thighs. I looked over at Sehun's direction. His lips were pursed hard together, I imagined he was trying not to let out any noises as I was doing. It was a matter of honour; I wasn't going to let him win and the water was already up his hips. So, I did the only logical thing there was to do, I spread my arms and leaped forward into the water. In that moment I knew that was something I would never in my life do again. I felt every part of my body going numb from the coldness, so I came back to the surface again, with a victorious smile in my head as Sehun looked in disbelief at my soaked hair.
"Ha! You owe me breakfast in bed, Mr. Oh!" I swam up to him and pressed my body against his. "Now, please hug me, this was a terrible idea."
He laughed way more hysterically than it was necessary, he was probably freezing, but I used that moment of distraction to my behalf and kicked on his calves strong enough to make him loose balance and fall completely into the water. When he resurfaced, there was a dangerous look in his face.
"Don't even dare to think you're going to get away from this, Jeong."
I let out a scream and started swimming as fast as I could away from him, but he quickly was able to catch me and make my head go under the water again. We started a water fight, and splashing at each other even though we were both completely soaked. He was clearly stronger than I was, but I was smaller and lighter, so I managed to climb up his back until I was almost completely out of the water and started tickling him, in an attempt to disarm him. His laugher sounded loudly in the quiet beach, and that made me put a hand over his mouth to shush him. In that moment, he contorted one arm around me to get me off his shoulder and place me in front of him, but my legs were still wrapped around his hips.
I could see his eyes roam over every part of my body that was out of the water. His arms around me softened and he stopped trying to get me away from him. Streams fell from his hair over his face and neck and there were little droplets hanging off his eyelashes. I felt his heartbeat near my own chest and he was panting for air against my hand.
When my lips touched his, I stopped feeling cold. Actually, we could have been in the most comfortable place in the world and I would've felt exactly the same. Nothing. Because all I could feel was him. His arms hugged me closer, even though it seemed physically impossible to be closer than we already were. I parted my lips from him and could hear his quickened breathing when my mouth made contact with his neck. A moan escaped from him when I sucked into the delicate skin of his neck and that made me smile. I came back once again and bit down the slightly more protruding bottom lip, the one he was always licking. Probably, there was no second intention when he did that, but oh, how I wanted that lip. His hands let go of my hips and started travelling up my back, which made me lose my balance and I had to step down from him. Our kiss broke and he rested his forehead against mine, still caressing my back.
"You know, the water is not that cold once you get used to it." That made me giggle. "But you know what?"
I opened my eyes to look at his.
"What?"
"There could be some huge sea creature creeping around here right now. Such as, don't know. A whale?"
"Oh my god, you're such a buzzkill!" I hit him in the arm as I laughed. "And an asshole!"
"Yep. And do you know what this asshole is going to do now? I'm going to run out there and grab your clothes. And then you will have to come back to the hotel almost naked." He started running towards the shore but turned his head to shout. "What do you think about that?"
He obviously arrived at the place we had left out clothes, but he didn't expect me to run against him at the fullest speed the sand would let me. My body crashed into his and we both fell down into the sand, laughing like hyenas.
"I think," he stopped, trying to regain his breath, "we should go back to the hotel. I'm actually really cold."
****
The faces of the people working at the reception spoke volumes about what they thought of us when they saw us coming into the hotel completely wet and covered just with our fine coats. But we honestly couldn't care less. In the lift up to our room, we mocked their expressions and laughed our heads off.
Once in the room, we shook our clothes out of the window, trying to get rid of the most sand possible.
"I think you should go into the shower, to warm yourself up and take off the salt and stuff..."
"Why am I first?"
"Because I'm a gentleman and I can wait," he smiled as he sat down into the armchair, still in his wet underwear.
The bathroom was half the size of the bedroom, still twice the size of my own bathroom at home. There was a huge bathtub in one side, which had plenty of space and rounded edges, but I did not take a bath. Instead, I focused my energy into leaving my skin and my hair clean and smelling fresh; meanwhile, I could not stop my head from bringing back memories of his hands on my legs and his face against my neck, from that day we did the photoshoot together. I quickly hopped off the shower and wrapped myself into a very soft towel. Then, I plugged the bath and left the warm water run; and came out of the bathroom.
The change of temperature caused steam to come out of my wet, warm skin. Sehun was still sitting where I had left him, watching a silly TV program. He looked at me and smiled.
"You always take very fast showers," he observed.
I approached him and took the remote off his hands to silence the canned laughter. Then I turned around to face him, with a serious expression in my face.
"Is everything okay...?" he started asking.
But his voice went silent as well as he saw me sit over him, putting each leg at each side of his body, straddling over his lap. I put my hands behind his neck to attract his head towards mine. I started stroking his forehead lightly with my lips, before coming down towards his neck to suck on the same spot I had attacked previously. I could hear him swallow hard when I raised my head up to bite on his earlobe, as my hands roamed freely over his torso.
Our opened mouth kiss waited no longer to make appearance and it pulled us even closer than we already were. Underneath my towel and his underwear I could feel him getting excited. I grabbed both his hands and guided them to grab my ass, without breaking the kiss. When Sehun felt where his hands were, he pulled away and looked at me surprised, but I just smiled in response before kissing him deeply one more time.
Then, I stood up and made him do the same too. I grabbed his hand and started walking backwards towards the bathroom, heading into the bath I had left running with warm water. I focused my gaze into his eyes, making sure he didn't look away from me. When we reached the bathroom door, I left the towel fall down from my body to the floor.
*****
"Grace. Grace, wake up!" Sehun was shaking my shoulder to make me drift off my slumber. "I want you to see something."
Before I could even open my eyes I felt him wrap my naked body into the bed sheets and then lift me up between his arms.
"It's still dark, what are you doing?" I mumbled, still half asleep.
"Of course it's dark, that's the point." He sat me in the small sofa there was in the balcony and came back into the room to bring out one of his t-shirts, that he pulled over me to protect me from the chilly air. "This is one of the most eastern places in Korea, and it's just in the shore. This is the best place to see the sunrise."
A few minutes later, as he had said, the sun started rising and filled everything with colour. The sky turned bright yellow while the few clouds looked pink. The sea was bluer than ever. The shore suddenly bursted alive with activity when lots of seagulls and other sea birds woke up from the brightness of the sun and started flying around looking for their breakfast.
When I turned around, I saw Sehun behind me, snapping pictures with his phone.
"What are you doing?"
"You look beautiful in this light. And the scenery's beautiful too. Why wouldn't I try to make this last forever?"
"Am I in your pictures?"
"Of course you are."
"And why aren't you?"
"True." He turned around and took a few pictures of us together, pulling funny faces or looking dead serious alternatively. Probably we looked way too dark in those pictures, because the lighting was just behind us, but it didn't matter.
Both of us standing next to the railing, I wrapped my arms against his waist and rested my head on his chest.
"I get why you would want to live here..."
A few moments later, he raised me off the floor and tucked me back into bed.
"What are you doing now?" I laughed.
"You won last night, remember? I owe you breakfast in bed." I nodded smiling. "I'm going to pull down the blinders, you can pretend to be asleep until I come back. What do you prefer for breakfast, sweet or savoury?"
"Surprise me."
Not even ten minutes had gone by when he came back to actually surprise me, as he stormed into the room and started picking up things hastily.
"What happens?" I asked from the bed, as I watched him frantically put all our stuff into their respective bags. I stood up and put my hands in his arms to stop him.
"Sehun, what's wrong?"
"Get dressed, we have to leave now." His expression was dead serious and made clear he wasn't joking. "The hall is full of press."
