Early Ideas
Original: How can I use my knowledge of Maya, Star Wars lore, and gaming to conceptualize a Star Wars game for both hardcore fans and casual fans alike?
1. How do I take my knowledge of gaming and Star Wars lore to conceptualize game mechanics and narrative meant for the hardcore fans and casuals alike? Visually how do I use 3D modeling to produce two to three lightsaber hilts or one very detailed lightsaber hilt?
2. With the knowledge I have regarding gaming and Star Wars lore can I layout basic game mechanics and conceptualize a strong multi era narrative? Visually can I use 3D modeling to create two to three lightsaber hilts or one very detailed hilt?
3. Taking what I know about gaming and Star Wars lore can I conceptualize basic game mechanics with a strong multi era narrative? Likewise can I utilize my skills in 3D modeling to produce two to three lightsaber hilts or one very detailed hilt?
4. How can I layout a Star Wars video game’s basic game mechanics with a strong multi era narrative utilizing the knowledge I have regarding gaming and Star Wars lore? Visually can I use 3D modeling to create two to three lightsaber hilts or one very detailed hilt?
Basic Narrative Ideas
* Eras:
o Era of the Mandalorians – The Jedi Civil War (Knights of the Old Republic, 3000 years before the Rise of the Empire)
o Era of the Republic – The Clone Wars (Prequel Trilogy, 20 years before the Rise of the Empire)
o Era of the Empire – The Galactic Civil War (Original Trilogy, During the Reign of the Empire, 20 years in)
o Era of the First Order - ?The Rise of the Resistance? (Sequel Trilogy, 40 years after the Fall of the Empire)
* Main Characters:
o Darth Revan – Jedi Civil War (Original Protagonist to Knights of the Old Republic, currently in legends)
o Anakin Skywalker – Clone Wars (Main Character of the prequel trilogy, considered the chosen one in cannon)
o Luke Skywalker – Galactic Civil War (Main Character of the original trilogy, defender of the galaxy, defeating Palpatine and redeems Vader)
o Rey Noname - ?Rise of the Resistance? (Main Character of the sequel trilogy, slightly way over powered as currently presented, literally nothing is known about her otherwise.)
o New Characters for each era that work very closely with the main characters and other characters from each era. Almost like a reincarnation per era that matches with the crystal.
o Story will be built around the idea that this is part of legends and not cannon, so many liberties will be taken with the lore and cannon. Such as many rewrites to Rey and the events of the Sequel Trilogy, but an adaptive narrative based on how you play each character.
o May stick with existing characters due to the era jumping nature of the narrative, so sticking with characters that fans already know will make it easier to digest era jumping as opposed to a totally new character.
* Legends vs Cannon:
o Shan family continues through the millennia, Revan and Bastilia allowed to marry and continue serving in the order. Influences Anakin in his decision to marry in secret.
o Every generation of Shan have been given special permission to continue the family line as it produces very strong Jedi.
o Best friends with Anakin as a child and even into early adulthood before being knighted.
o Ashoka will definitely still be Anakin’s Padawan not just to include her as a fan favorite but also to use her as a gauge on how Anakin is affecting her. Whether or not you choose the path of the Dark Side and when you choose to do those actions she may even join you during order 66 or she will stand against you being the big boss fight of the era apart from Obi-Wan.
* Influences found through replaying the games I’ve chosen to base on:
o Dark Side and Light Side shifts, choices that have consequences no matter which way you go with benefits that also come along.
o Events that catch the player off guard that make them feel something. EX: Knights of the Old Republic II – Telos, deciding whether or not to free a Czerka Employee’s wife that he gambled away on a pazaak game. Doing a dark side run through I then gambled on her won, and then she was given to me as a reward, instead of freeing her I told her that she was now mine and that all of her earnings would be mine. Later I came back and found a way to start a cut scene where her original owner would be taken to the Husband and beaten. I decided to kill the original owner and then right in front of the husband told the wife that she would still be mine. I don’t normally do dark side runs because it’s just not really my play style but for this run I decided to be as evil as I possibly can but during this entire exchange I felt so bad. Not only did I give a husband hope that he would get his wife back I simply took her away and put an even higher price on her head. The interesting part of that was that the wife was more than happy to continue being my “Slave,” she did not appreciate being gambled away by her husband and felt that having a stable job under someone else would be a better situation compared to staying with him. The other part of that is that I’m playing as a Female Sith Lord.
o Epic battles across eras on many different maps – Battlefront II Classic, wide open battles with hundreds of people on the map, both players and AI. Such as Hoth especially in the XL game mode, literally hundreds of people on the field doing their own thing fighting their own battle. The AI are not simply out to get the players they are more than happy to fight each other to simulate a living breathing war/battle. Heroes do actually feel like one man armies and truly are very difficult to kill, I feel heroes were handled better in Battlefront II Classic even if they were very overpowered. Anakin will be available as a playable hero out of the gate, since he is kind of the main character of the series (Looking at you EA).
o Amazing breath taking graphics – Battlefront II EA
o Open and epic space battles – Graphics of Battlefront II EA and the gameplay of Battlefront II Classic, being able to spawn and get in and out of ship on the fly. Choosing to fight other fighters and take out battle ships from the outside or choosing to fight infantry and take out battle ships from the inside by infiltrating them and getting out of your fighter. And it being super pretty.
* Era Connecting Aspects:
o Lightsaber crystal that goes from protagonist to protagonist, concept from Knights of the Old Republic II.
o Something to do with the Starforge, though can become stale over the hours of dealing with the same thing.
o Deals with legacy, Holocrons, texts and reports.
