- Eugene Rodriguez and David Hidalgo perform “Soy Mexico Americano” in L.A.

A Mockingbird and a Wolf walk into a bookstore … and they sing a song.

It happened when Eugene Rodriguez of Los Cenzontles (the Mockingbirds) was joined by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos (the Wolves) to perform an intimate and joyful rendition of “Soy Mexico Americano” at Los Angeles’ Skylights Books. Rodriguez strummed chords on a nylon-string guitar while Hidalgo rocked a squeezebox as they sung in unison y en Español.

The occasion marked the release of Rodriguez’s “Bird of Four Hundred Voices” and someone had the wherewithal to capture the unmic’d performance on amateur video. Be glad it exists, but be aware it captures only a hint of the euphoria that must’ve been rippling through that room.

Gingham with snake print? Sure! Ripped denim with over-the-top embellishment? Why not? A patent polka dot trench with a brocade suit? Absolutely! For S/S 18, many designers are ripping up all of the established rules on what you should pair with what, proving truly anything goes.

As runway shows and our favorite designers have confirmed, the best way to make an impact this Spring is by mixing and matching — from textures to patterns to eclectic statement pieces. These seemingly simple choices are one of the easiest ways to flaunt your personality.

On a scale of tricky trends, we put mixing prints right up there. But here’s the good news: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to master the art of mixing and matching. Once you learn a few simple tricks of the trade, you’ll be pairing patterns like an expert in no time. We promise, it’s easier than it looks.

The No. 1 rule for entry-level print mixing: Stick to two patterns and simple silhouettes. It’s always fun and cool to create new outfits with bright patterns.

La manera más sencilla es comenzar poco a poco, con algo pequeño como zapatos, bandanas, corbatas, gorras y calcetines.

Te encontraras desconcertado y anonadado al ver mezclas de estampados que enloquecerán a todos y encantaran a pocos. Después de ver estos increíbles atuendos y dominar el arte de mezclar, las posibles opciones de combinar colores y estampados en tus atuendos aumentarán enormemente. La práctica es todo lo que necesitas, eso y confianza en cómo te ves y sientes. Si esos patrones contrastantes se ven bien juntos, entonces no dudes en usarlos.

Spring Summer 2018 Trend Report

Oversized

For a few seasons we have seen garments in extra-large sizes carried by models of extra-small size, how can we forget those preppy-inspired ripped oversized sweaters by Raf Simons? And how about the always alternative Juun J? who always shows us that the oversized look can be worn in all seasons by men and women.

There was also a trend for big silhouettes from the mid-1980s throughout the 1990s. All items such as shirts, pants, sweats, and coats are made in large sizes, and many young people who create skillfully coordinated ensembles.

The rule of oversized is that it’s not a synonym for sized up. Step from M to XL and you look less fashion-forward, more hand-me-downs. The difference between ‘oversized’ and ‘big’ is in the details: shoulders and sleeves might be extended, but the body of a coat will still fit your body when you button it up; a bomber might bulge out over your arms, but with a cropped hem to rein in the more is more vibe.

Scared of looking drowned? Try belting the top layer or sticking to slim trousers to create a more streamlined look. Nail the proportions and you’ll add inches to your height, so short girls – it’s well worth a go.

With oversized clothes, less is more. It is better to keep accessories minimal. Keeping footwear simple and not going over the top, with chunky and grungy boots, will enhance the silhouettes of the attire. The oversized trend is slowly catching up and we are excited.

Desde hace unas temporadas se han visto prendas en tallas extra grandes portadas por modelos de talla extra chica, ¿cómo olvidar esos sweaters oversized de inspiración preppy con rasgaduras decorativas de Raf Simons? ¿ y qué tal al siempre alternativo Juun J? quien siempre nos demuestra que el look oversized se puede llevar en todas las temporadas por hombres y mujeres.

Estas no han sido las únicas temporadas en las que este corte amplio ha invadido las pasarelas y las calles, también hubo una tendencia hacia grandes siluetas desde mediados de la década de 1980 a lo largo de la década de 1990. Todos los artículos como camisas, pantalones, sudaderas y abrigos estaban hechos en tallas grandes, y muchos jóvenes creaban conjuntos que se veían increíblemente cómodos.

El termino oversized no es literalmente comprar y portar prendas XXL de gran tamaño. Pasar de M a XL no te hará parecer estar a la moda, si no como un niño jugando a ser adulto en el guardarropa de su padre o portando las prendas de segunda mano heredadas por un hermano mayor. La diferencia entre ‘oversized’ y 'grande' está en los detalles: los hombros y las mangas pueden extenderse para crear amplitud, pero el corte de un abrigo aún se ajustará a tu cuerpo cuando lo abotones. El corte siempre tiene que favorecer, crear amplitud y una sensación de rebeldía y estilo sin esfuerzo.

¿Miedo de verte ahogado en tu vestimenta? Intenta crear una apariencia más estilizada al portar una prenda holgada con una más ajustada. La clave está en las proporciones y agregar un par de centímetros a tu altura.

Con la ropa de gran tamaño, menos es más. Es mejor mantener los accesorios al mínimo. Llevar calzado simple y sin exagerar, las botas militares gruesas, realzarán la silueta y crearan una inspiración noventera grunge.
