You would’ve never thought you’d ever see the day Fred Weasley got a girlfriend. He was silly, always showing his mischievous and childish side to the world, earning applaud and angry scoffs at the same time – as well as longing gazes of girls who you saw as a hundred times prettier than you.

You would’ve never thought he had a serious side to himself either, hiding behind the prankster persona he used as a shield, as a subconscious self-defense mechanism against those he didn’t know just how much to trust.

And you surely hadn’t taken it as a possibility that Fred Weasley himself, would ever take an interest in you. Not seriously, at least. For a prank? Maybe. But not like this.

And yet, here you were, sitting at the breakfast table, wearing his sweater against the cold weather, and to make it obvious and official: you were together, you were his girlfriend.

You hadn’t even had time to process anything before you felt a hand slipping something into the pocket of the back of your jeans. A flash of ginger hair caused the frown on your face to grow into a heartfelt smile as you reached into your pocket for the note your boyfriend had just put into it.

“You look bloody beautiful in my sweater. It looks better on you than it does on me<3 – F.W.” it read, only making the grin grow further, so much that you had to bite down on your bottom lip.

Looking up from the paper your eyes met his, gleaming with a mix of mischief, adoration, and love as he took the sight of you in his sweater in once again. And if it had been on him, he’d never have taken his eyes off you.

One thing about Mattheo that was very obvious to anyone with eyes that besides loving you to the moon and back, he loved winter. It was when he was the happiest, cozied up on the couch of the Slytherin common room, sharing a warm blanket with you, limbs tangled as you two were sipping on some hot tea.

It wasn’t the Advent, the Christmas period for him that always seemed to have him in a good mood. In fact, he couldn’t have cared less about the birth of ‘some bloke who conceived without his mother being shagged’ if he’d tried. No. It was the warmth of the fireplace after Quidditch practice, the sweet, cinnamony scents filling the air everywhere, the decorations all around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, the muggle Christmas songs you kept showing and making him mixtapes of, little snowball fights, and ice skating on the ice of the frozen Black Lake.

But mostly, it was the way you seemed to bud out in flowers as soon as you saw the first hint of snow.

He loved seeing you so happy over something that happens annually.

“You’ve never seen muggle London?” you asked, eyes wide with surprise shining in them before a great, excited smile appeared on your lips. “Let me take you. See the lights, the Christmas market –London’s beautiful now.” Seeing your pretty smile and shining eyes, Mattheo couldn’t (and wouldn’t want to) refuse an offer like this.

So this is how he found himself in the city centre, with you by his side, blabbering about the market and hot chocolate excitedly.

Merlin, he wanted to kiss you so bad. But then you’d stop talking. It was either your voice or your lips.

He tried to focus on what you were saying, but then there came that cute sound – your laughter, a soft, gentle giggle he loved so much leaving your mouth and sending is mind into overdrive, a crooked smile appearing on his own lips, and he finally went in for that kiss he’d been dreaming of for the past few seconds – maybe minutes. He’d always lost all sense of time when he was with you.

Not only sense of time, though. He could put the pressure of being You-Know-Whose son for as long as you were with him aside, and he could relax with you around. And Merlin, did he dread you’d ever finding someone possibly better than him as much as one could cower at the mere idea of facing their own worst enemy. And Mattheo’s worst enemy was time, it always had been. Why? Because before you, it moved so slowly as if he’d been jinxed into numbness, and with you, it moved so fast as a blink of an eye, and he implied it was your effect on him. So, of course he feared the day you’d call it quits.

You reciprocated the kiss, a little taken aback by the sudden action, but smiled nonetheless, knowing that you’d found your one and only in him, that you’d never stop loving him.

And in spite of his fears and doubts, deep down, he knew that too.

It was so sweet, knowing that you loved him.

And it was perfect.

"And who are you dressing up as, Sharp?" Catherine narrowed her eyes as she scrutinized his curious, dog-like appendages. A faint smile crept across her cherry lips the longer her gaze lingered on his face.

Aesop took a step back and rubbed the back of his head. "I-It's not what it looks like!" he stammered, "The polyjuice isn't supposed to work like—"

"Wait, are you saying that you brewed a polyjuice potion just for this Autumn Ball?" she gasped, "Are you really that desperate to win this 'ridiculous' contest? I thought you said that this whole thing is nothing but a childish pastime!"

The young Slytherin took a sharp inhale and averted his gaze from hers. The heat that once flickered in his stomach now spread across his face like wildfire. Whether it was from the embarrassment coming from his botched potion or from the fact that her face was merely an inch or two from his, he could not tell. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and tried to back away. But the cold, stone wall prevented his retreat.

"I—What about you? Why did you choose a character from a muggle fairy tale? How can you expect to win if the judges and the townsfolk can't recognize the character you're trying to dress up as?" Aesop spat.

Her obsidian eyes widened and her mouth opened and closed, as if the words she was about to say suddenly vanished from her tongue. She gritted her teeth. "H-How dare you divert the subject!" her pale cheeks flushed pink in embarrassment, "If I pick a character that everyone knows about, I'm sure that someone else will look just like me! I have to be unique if I want to win!"

"Uniqueness and creativity aren't the only criteria being considered in the judging, Nott." Aesop scoffed.

Catherine huffed as she crossed her arms in front of her chest. "At least I didn't do something illegal and stupid like brewing a polyjuice potion. I can't believe you just tried to use a shortcut like that! How can you expect the win the 'Best Costume' award if you don't put an effort in your costume in the first place?"

"And you did? That's just a simple outdoor dress and a red hood!"

"I beg your pardon?! I made this dress myself!"

"Yeah, you and your army of house elves!"

The young witched gasped again. A flicker of anger flashed in her dark eyes. "Whatever, Sharp. Have fun walking around Hogsmeade with your cute appearance of yours!"

Aesop's heart almost stopped beating when he heard those words. "What did you say?" he asked again, "Did you just say that I'm... cute?"

Catherine froze. Her pale cheeks turned rosy pink as she turned from him. She stomped away, her red cloak billowing in the wind as she walked. "I said that you're a jerk and I hope the kids in Hogsmeade yank your tail!"
