ARTRAVE: THE ARTPOP BALL CHAPTER #I: VISUALS
Lady Gaga kicked off her fourth world tour âArtRAVE: The ARTPOP BALLâ back in May 2014 to promote her album âARTPOPâ which was released in 2013.
Weâre starting off with the fashion from the visuals, which were directed by Ruth Hogben and styled by Brandon Maxwell. Hair by Frederic Aspiras and makeup by Sarah-Nicole Tanno.

Firstly, the raver look, which also used as a backdrop for âDo What U Wantâ.
Gaga swings in the air wearing a white & baby pink crochet tie-around crop top from the Maria ke Fisherman x Opening Ceremy Spring/Summer 2015 capsule collection.

The green 3D-printed neck brace, vacuum-formed crystal plexiglass armor bracers and depth-cast pearlescent latex stockings are all from Melbourne-based designer Nixi Killickâs intergalactic âFuture-tive Natureâ 2014 collection.Â
She also dons a pink fur & white leather lace-up football vest custom-made for her by Gabriela Ostolaza and a kandi garter (worn as a choker) from Kandi Toybox.

Both of her other accessories are custom a-morir. She wore a white version of the faux fur-trimmed Flint raver sunglasses from the Fall/Winter 2013 âDiesel Powerâ collection...
...and, of course, the custom pink crystal-encrusted pacifier. So cute!

Her white fluffy leg warmers and platform sneakers with cut-out detail on the heel are from Fishermanâs Fall/Winter 2014 collection where all footwear was made in collaboration with Buffalo.

In these shots, which were used for the intro of the show plus âJust Danceâ backdrop, Gaga whirled around in a white pearl and fringe-embellished organza catsuit created by Filipino designer Rocky Gathercole.Â
Her flower-covered platform boots are bespoke Thom Solo while her multi-colored studded stiletto nails were custommade by nail artist AstroWifey.

For the âApplauseâ backdrop, Gaga is dressed in a white silicone coverall with mask while painting herself with spray paint.
She also dons the Orion white leather platform sandals by Y.R.U. which she got customized with gigantic platforms by East Village Shoe Repair.

For the âJewels Nâ Drugsâ interlude, Gaga goes batshit crazy in a white latex strait jacket-bodysuit hybrid (most probably a custom piece) paired with Leg Avenue white satin bow ruffle stockings.

Itâs truly the accessories that make this look. On top of her head, we can spot a gunmetal rabbit ear headband by WXYZ.
Her Spring/Summer 2013 crystal mask, neck brace, bracelets and crystal necklaces (tied around her ankles) are all by Alexis Bittar.
She completed the look with a pair of vintage SWEAR white camouflage furry platform boots with teeth.

This look is also pure insanity! Gagaâs feather shoulder piece (she wore as a skirt) and matching headdress with roses and glass beads, are from the 2012 âRoadkill Coutureâ collection by Brighton-based designer and artist Jess Eaton, who doesnât shy away from using seagull feathers, cat fur and even human bones!

She combined her look with the Fabulous-3035 thigh-high pink glitter and latex raver platform boots with ornamental lacing from Pleaserâs âPink Labelâ range.

Finally, the âAura backdrop. The singer wears a baby blue & pink inflatable latex shoulder piece with fringes custom-made for her by Vex Clothing. It originally had a matching skirt as well!

Fashion in a Flash
In a rather surprising turn of events, fashion was to be found in unexpected places in last Saturdayâs edition of Melbourne newspaper (remember those?) The Age. Retail reporter Dom Powell spoke to founder Fella Hamilton about her 50 years in the fashion business (it all started with a towelling turban no less) and also reports on the imminent arrival of Melbourneâs first dedicated Patagonia store. While their classic tee can be seen on the back of every twenty something year old in this town, and no doubt many others, Patagonia has been promoting green causes for some time now and even took out full page ads in every major newspaper in support of last monthâs Climate Strike, no doubt triggering more of those who still seem to resist the hard truths from a certain Swedish 16 year old. And finally, not really fashion, but more on the craft front, Frances Atkinson speaks to several crafty men about their forthcoming takeover of the The Johnson Collection and the surprising benefits a couple of needles and a ball of wool can bring. Maybe some of Greta Thunbergâs detractors should take note.
Melbourne possesses and endless flow of fashion happenings, news and analysis. Style Wilderness aka Leeyong Soo brings us up to speed on her recent trip to the Americas, where she saw a lot of very nice things; Style Shifter aka Julia Browne has the rundown on all the forthcoming student graduate runway shows happening over the next few weeks (brace yourself!) and RMIT graduate Nixi Killick will be bringing her colourful creations to the fashion hub that us Gertrude Street, Fitzroy with her innovative range of augmented reality designs in a pop up store from October 11th. I had the pleasure of witnessing this new form of fashion magic at her launch at VAMFF earlier this year and this fashion fanatic was suitably impressed.
