Rieke's Liebe (submission)
Just stumbled upon your site and OMG I legit didn’t knew that we had a community!! Thank you for all the recommendations! I just wanted to ask your thoughts and any thoughts shared to you regarding the ending of Rieke’s Liebe? It left me so confused. I honestly thought that Nils genuinely cared for Rieke, but the way he acted in the last scene where he was leaving and also when they arrived in the gas station made me question otherwise. I wonder if maybe something was just lost in translation?
Hi Anon,
Many years ago, I watched Rieke’s Liebe with no subtitles because there were none. Understandably, I was confused about many things, but especially about the ending, which has always left an impression on me.
Recently, a streaming copy of Rieke’s Liebe with English subs was shared on here. (Link here.) And I have not watched it yet. But I did watch three of the other impossible-to-find-with-English-subtitles movies posted by that same user, and the English subs appear to be machine translations varying from bad to very bad. However, far better than nothing. Was this the version of Rieke’s Liebe that you watched?
Whether or not the translation was bad, I can’t comment in detail on Rieke’s Liebe. However, my impression from when I watched it before was that the brother did a complete mystifying 180 on his sister in a way that totally soured everything that had come before it. What I can’t tell you is why.
Does anyone have any insight into this?
I will be watching it with the subs at some point, I just haven’t got there yet. Given what I know, I haven’t been too excited.

I'm a total nerd and I love to compare the dubbed voices of characters with the original voice of the actor. And I was able to find a good video for Eddie.

Mykki Blanco - High School Never Ends (ft. Woodkid) (Official Music Video) from The FADER on Vimeo.
Purchase "High School Never Ends" Here: K7.lnk.to/HighSchoolNeverEndsYo
The video for "High School Never Ends," the lead single from Mykki Blanco's as-yet-unannounced new album, is a Shakespearean tragedy of sorts. Directed by Matt Lambert, it tells a non-linear Romeo and Juliet-like tale, replacing "fair Verona" with scenic rural Germany. The video was produced by Iconoclast in collaboration with The FADER and !K7, and it's debuting above.
The new clip, which was filmed gorgeously by Control cinematographer Martin Ruhe, is a heartbreaking story about outsiders—in this case, queer ones. Similar to stories about forbidden romance, it ends with unspeakable violence. It's all set against Mikky's string-heavy new track, which was produced by and features Woodkid.
According to Mykki Blanco and Matt Lambert, the powerful "High School Never Ends" video is also about the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. “It never once overtly comments on orientation or race, but only ideas of 'us' and 'them,'" said Lambert. “I had once thought Europe was my safe haven from American white supremacy, and how wrong I became," Mykki Blanco added.

Hey, I just watched the movie Rieke's Liebe from the VK link that one anon had shared earlier. So ******major spoilers****** for the movie - I didn't quite understand the ending. What did Nils actually want? He seemed sincere to Rika in the earlier scenes, so what made him change into a sadistic r*pist? Did he just want her V-card and... that's it? Did he not hold any real feelings for her? It actually doesn't help that the actor didn't know to act all that well, I was constantly confused as to what he wanted - for example, he's shown NOT to enjoy sex with his new dance partner (forgot her name, the famous ice skater), so he definitely likes his sister. But when they get together, he just bolts and rejoices even? Not to mention, Rika's a bit weird too - like, she wants to get with him but when that happens, she's all like *yuck* and *this is not what I signed up for* ice-princess? I don't get either of their reactions if I'm being honest. So I just thought I'd ask you. I normally Google these things if I don't understand it, but in this case, our hands are tied, right? So, what did you think about that ending (more about Nils' reaction than Rika's, bless her soul). And if you haven't watched the movie, I'm SO SORRY if I spoiled it for you (truly)! <3
Hi Anon,
I had a similar ask here (was that you or someone else?), so I'll direct you there for my detailed answer, but the short answer is: I watched the movie without subtitles years ago and had all of the same questions. I'm hoping we can find a German speaker to make sense of it for us someday.
