Unrelated to this, but I hope warrior monks return but get reworked so they're not outclassed by cheaper units as soon as you unlock them. And being able to train them as well as purchasing would be nice

I always liked the idea of faith play styles having a military route, but only having warrior monks and nihangs (if you're lucky) with prices that increase doesn't make that viable at all

I hope civ 7 goes further with unique appearances for units. In civ 6 there's differences, but for the most part you can't look at a generic unit like knights and know which civ created it. I think it'd be cool if every nation had a distinct style to make it actually unique. Same for cities, I'd like it if every civs cities looked unique and after conquering one it kept that appearance

Happy Dracones Monday! The Nahang!

The nahang, nihang or nang is a dragon from central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) - for my Dracones Mundi project it was difficult to find physical descriptions of it beyond 'golden mane' so I took some artistic liberties and just went wild making a dragon that I think looks good!

so the other day i was visiting the golden temple (harminder sahib, one of the spiritual centres for sikhism in this country) and i saw a nihang sikh on the way. and damn.

his turban was embellished in silver, with a silver crescent, chains, even his knee length tunic had a silver belt with his khanjar looping around him in a silver chain, and he jingled when he (i’m trying so hard to not use an honorific “they” re: my mother) walked.

that reminds me of my boy hua hua; the history of the nihang sikhs just adds to it. they’re a sort of a religious fighting sect (HUAHUA) and they’re also called akaali (beyond time, subject only to god) and my god does it fit hua cheng. my only question is about how that got introduced to a chinese kid, because indian devotion and religion have a LOT of stuff about belonging to and loving your god (i’ll write another post about it sometime)

just,,,, the way a chinese kid, a third son (playing into the widespread belief that the eldest sons were asked to enlist), has a lot of similarities to a religious order in a different place, of a different era. absolutely insane

I finished my stats quiz, so as a reward I get to read this reddit post about Into the Ring that @sliceduplife sent me 😊 Thank you!

It's titled “Into The Ring” aka “Memorials” (comprehensive analysis of its quirky but brilliant cinematography) and the writer goes into depth on the various techniques they used, like wide angle, extreme wide angle and fish eye lenses, tracking shots and other kinds of camera movements, lens flare, and some other stuff. They provide lots of examples of moments where these are used (and kindly keep the spoilers hidden).

Apparently the British movie The Favourite used a lot of similar techniques (it's on my list, but I haven't seen it yet).

The redditor (u/plainenglish2) gives links to posts they wrote on the cinematography of a bunch of other Korean dramas, if anyone is interested in reading about other shows.
