learning that there must be at least one person out there shipping sun wukong and guanyin makes me incredibly uncomfortable. i thought people making them out to be an abuser of red boy was bad but that feels more off to me. i've only seen the second thing once and seen it talked about twice and never the ship in person and it's got to be rare since i've been in the fandoms for almost a year without seeing it but still even one person doing that feels gross.

That is perfectly valid and it makes me uncomfortable too. It is not fucking hard to be respectful. Also I’m open to discussions about this stuff because I am so tired with how certain gods are treated.

Personally I’ve never actually seen people from the OSP fandom ship Guanyin and SWK but I don’t actively go digging for OSP fan content so thankfully I’ve never seen it. I’ve been watching OSP for a couple years yet have never seen it. Side note, I kinda hate how people take their JTTW video as complete truth when Red cuts out a lot of stuff for humor and especially since they look at things through a white lens rather than actual cultural significance.

People think the Jade Emperor is an idiot for trying to kill Sun Wukong when he’s immortal when that’s not how Daoist immortality works at all. In Daoist immortality, invulnerability and immortality are not the same thing. You can live forever but still be killed. SWK is the exception because of how much of that immortality granted stuff he ate, I think

And yea you were right it does feel extremely off. It is gross even for one person. Both things feel extremely off especially since these are you know gods. Especially for someone so important as Guanyin who is either being shipped or turned into evil abuser who enslaved Red Boy. It’s not rocket science for people to know that’s not how she is at all. I haven’t even read the books because of my poor attention span and I obviously know that’s not how she is!

It’s tiring to be an Asian in this fandom. I’m not Chinese and it must be so tiring for the Chinese people in this fandom especially since some of them are trying to regain and learn more about this culture which is the same thing I’m trying to do with my Filipino half.

Asian people have had their culture stripped away or have been colonized by white people or some other group and we’re trying to get our culture back and it must be so amazing when you see something like LMK which is based on JTTW then you get tired when you see how the fandom treats certain gods without research.

One day I will snap and write a whole fanfic about how amazing Guanyin is. No one fucking test me.
