"When Harry took the stage at the Clinton Global Initiative on Tuesday morning, it was clear just how far he had come as a speaker and a public figure. He paced the stage, TED Talk–style, and used his personal cell phone as a visual aid. He began by discussing the Space Race, using it as an extended metaphor for the unforeseen effects that technology can have on our politics. Compared to the uplifting yet somewhat hesitant speeches he used to give five years ago, the prince was brimming with purpose when talking about Big Tech.
"'Our laws and regulations are different state-to-state, country-to-country—we may have different backgrounds, viewpoints, beliefs, and even access to the internet itself. But the one thing we can universally agree on is the safety of our children,' he said. 'So why, why do the leaders of these insanely powerful social media companies still refuse to change? Why are we holding them to the lowest ethical standards? In any other circumstance, a business would commit all resources to fixing the bug.'
"Unlike the trip to Nigeria or their August trip to Colombia—where Harry and Meghan spent a few days with the country’s vice president and got in a few cultural experiences—the duke’s multiday trip to Manhattan was all business. In under 72 hours, he packed in at least seven events with a handful of his charities, some of which have counted him as a patron for more than a decade. He gave prepared remarks at most of the events, which meant he was switching gears from subjects ranging from youth empowerment to minefields and conflict to the climate impacts of travel to the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis in Southern Africa at the drop of the hat.
"Rather than focusing on the climate specifically, the trip was an opportunity for Harry to shine a spotlight on the teams that have helped him carry out his grand charitable plans. He was the headliner on Tuesday when the sustainable travel coalition Travalyst, which he founded in 2019, celebrated its fifth anniversary with a panel discussion and cocktail reception.
"On Monday, he celebrated the successes that the HALO Trust has had in demining Angola following the country’s devastating 26-year civil war, work that began with the support of Princess Diana in the final years of her life. He spoke about his 2019 visit to the same former minefield as his mother, in front of an audience that included three of the nonprofit’s current Angolan frontline workers.
...
"In a UN event with King Letsie III and Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso of Lesotho on Tuesday, Harry explained why he is interested in talking about a range of issues in partnership with a variety of organizations across the world. 'Today we have gathered here in New York, a city known for its diversity and progress and whose example teaches us the importance of inclusion,' he said. 'Diverse perspectives, experiences and voices are crucial if we are going to forge a more equitable world. Partnerships are therefore fundamental to delivering change. Whether we’re addressing the changing climate and its effects on food security, advocating for children’s rights, or tackling the HIV epidemic, we cannot do it alone.'
...
"Harry and Meghan have always been more project-driven than his Windsor family relatives, a quality which was previously met with skepticism and some disdain from the palace staff. 'You can say what you want about Meghan, but she works incredibly hard,' an insider told Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl in 2020, months after their royal exit. 'The problem is she and Harry have a tendency to hatch big projects over dinner and expect them to be actioned within days.' It’s now been four years since they started their Archewell Foundation, and in his whirlwind trip, Harry’s charity appearances made the implicit argument that he has a lot to show for his years outside of the palace."

Meghan in the nudes: the First Lady of Nigerias speech and some headlines from mainstream media by u/Mickleborough
Meghan in the nudes: the First Lady of Nigeria’s speech, and some headlines from mainstream media As reported in this sub a couple of days ago, Senator. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, made a speech on 25 May at the ‘Celebrating the Woman’ event, marking the first year of her husband’s administration. These words set the tone for her speech: ‘The message here is that we have to salvage our children.’She goes on to say: ‘We don’t accept nakedness in our culture.’The Meghan moment - where she alludes to the Meg is below (with my intepretation, based on logic): ’Even they [Nigerian children / girls] are mimicking and trying to emulate film stars from America. They [American film stars] don’t know where they come from. Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa? That is something we have to take home with us. We know who we are, and don’t lose who you are. God bless you.’ [Speech ends.]In my view, the literal interpretation‘s that the First Lady’s citing Meghan as an example of an American film star who doesn’t know where she comes from (her roots, her identity, sense of self - take your pidk). So - no criticism of Meghan’s flashing her flesh on her recent Nigeria visit. However it’s a logical inference, from the First Lady’s speech, that American film stars who don’t know where they come from flaunt their nakedness. And as Meghan‘s American film star in search of her roots, ergo Meghan goes around naked. In any event, Meghan’s nakedness has made the nudes:https://ift.tt/T6Jfr7y Sun (UK), 26 May.The Daily Mail (UK), 27 May.The Hindustan Times (India), 27 May.https://ift.tt/F5Iwei6 New York Post (US), 27 MayPakistan Today (Pakistan), 27 May.https://ift.tt/bAFxMUy Independent (UK), 28 May.India Today (India), 28 May.NDTV (India), 28 May.Scottish Daily Express (UK), 28 May.Sky News (Australia), 28 May.The Telegraph (UK), 28 May.The last word:Attendees at ‘Celebrating the Woman’.https://ift.tt/3iVuhvy and Meghan at ‘Women in Leadership’.Meghan exercising her Second Amendment right. post link: https://ift.tt/FsuSU15 author: Mickleborough submitted: May 29, 2024 at 10:54PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, Temitope Ajayi, said this on Wednesday in reaction to the US presidential candidates debate held on Tuesday night, between Democrat candidate, Donald Trump and Republican candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.Ajayi said like Peter Obi, Trump would use unimaginable negative words to describe a country he wants to lead just to win the sympathy of voters. The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has confirmed the receipt of a flood intervention fund of ₦3 billion from the Federal Government, which will be utilized to tackle the challenges posed by the recent flooding.Naija News reports that over one million individuals have been displaced due to the catastrophic floods in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.Governor Zulum gave more information regarding the devastating events on Wednesday during a donation of cash to those seeking refuge at the Bakassi IDP camp along the Biu-Damboa road in Maiduguri.Zulum announced that food supplies and other essential items would be provided, with vendors engaged to supply meals to the displaced individuals in the camp.As part of long-term strategies, the governor indicated that a health committee will be established to monitor potential disease outbreaks and mitigate their effects. He stated that search and rescue operations have commenced in the affected communities to assess casualties, and data collection of those impacted will begin immediately.Regarding the flood’s cause, the governor attributed it to the heavy rainfall experienced this year.Zulum noted that urban development has obstructed water channels throughout the state capital, impeding natural water flow.Additionally, he pointed to the overflow of the Alo Dam, which was exacerbated by the release of water from other dams in Cameroon.Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, issued a ruling granting bail to ten #EndBadGovernance protesters who had been detained on charges including treason. Each defendant was granted bail set at ₦10 million, along with the requirement of one surety in the same amount. In his ruling, Justice Nwite emphasized the principle of presumption of innocence, asserting that anyone charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He acknowledged the arguments presented by the defense counsel, particularly Abubakar Marshall, representing the 1st, 2nd, and 4th defendants.Despite the serious nature of the charges, Justice Nwite decided to grant bail to all ten defendants, stating, “I have carefully considered the submission of the counsel on both divides. I hereby grant the defendants bail notwithstanding the crime.Justice Nwite approved their bail applications, stipulating that each defendant must secure a surety who is both a property owner and resident in Abuja. These sureties are required to provide property documents and an affidavit of means to the court. By • Olalekan Fagbade BREAKING ;I didn’t purchase N300m bullet proof SUV – Wike cries out     The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike has refuted claims of purchasing a N300 million Armoured Lexus LX600 SUV on assumption to office. Wike made the rebuttal shortly after a visit to Metro Train Station, Abuja on Wednesday to inspect ongoing rehabilitation of Abuja Rail Mass Transport System. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some sections of the media had published a picture of an Armored Lexus SUV model LX 600, fitted with ‘FCT – 01’ plate. The reports claimed that the SUV, which cost more than N300 million, belonged to the new FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. But Wike refuted the claim, describing it as mere “mischief”, stressing that he was sworn in on Monday and had not even sat down to work yet. He said that all he did was interact with staff and today (Wednesday), went to the Metro Train Station, Abuja with the Minister of State for FCT to see things for themselves. “We are now going back to the office to interact with each of the departments in the Federal Capital Territory Administration. “But I have seen what is going on in the social media, how the FCTA Permanent Secretary bought a bullet proof car of N300 million that I am using. “So, I want you people to go hit your hand there (on the car) and see whether it is a treated car. “With all due respect, people should be careful not to destroy other people,” he said. He explained that when he resumed, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Adesola Olusade had told him that the FCTA has cars that the ministers would use. “And the car we use is this (pointing at a regular Lexus SUV). “I have never approved for any car to be bought and I have not used any official bullet proof car. “I am not using a bullet proof car as FCT Minister, so we should report the right thing, and not destroy ourselves. “I want you to take a look at the car I came with, the one with the flag and see whether it is a bullet proof car”, he asked the journalists at the scene. In a related development, the Director Press, Office of the Minister, Mr Anthony Ogunleye, dismissed claims by some media outfits that Wike plans to demolish 6,000 houses across 30 settlements in Abuja, including Wadata Plaza. “We would like to categorically state that these stories are entirely false and without any basis,” Ogunleye said. He explained that the story on the demolition of 6,000 houses was reported by a national daily newspaper on Aug. 22, with the caption “Abuja land: FG may revoke land allocations, demolish 6000 buildings, slums”. He added that another mainstream newspaper also published what he described as an “irritating story”, with a caption, “Wadata Plaza will go down, Reactions trail Wike’s demolition threat”. “For the avoidance of doubt, the Minister did not in any of his pronouncements list the areas or the number of illegal houses to be removed. “Rather, his emphasis has always been that illegal settlements and structures would be removed for the greater good of the public. “Equally vexing” is the headline from a reputable broadcast station saying, “I will fix Abuja in 6 days” and attributed the same to the FCT Minister. “We wish to state quite clearly that at no time did the Honourable Minister say this or allude to this phrase in any way. This headline, therefore, is borne purely out of mischief,” he said. The press secretary pointed out that such sensational reporting not only misleads the public but also undermines the vital role that accurate and well-researched journalism plays in society.
