Self-Deception

Michael Jones of Inspiring Philosophy is my least favourite apologist. That said, he is to be commended for not trying to twist the words of John 7:8-10, where Jesus lies concerning going up to the feast. To save Jesus from lying, some late Greek manuscripts add the word “oúpō” or “yet”. In our best Greek manuscripts, Jesus says: ‘I am not going up to this feast’. In later manuscripts, and in the KJV, Jesus says: ‘I am not going up yet to this feast.’ Michael Jones of Inspiring Philosophy readily admits that Jesus lied here... however, because of "context"—an apologist’s ultimate escape hatch!—Jesus can tell a lie, here, and yet remain “sinless”, as lying, it would seem, was ok in an ancient Jewish cultural context, according to Michael Jones.
In John 7:8-10, Jesus lies to his brothers, about going up to the feast, and then goes up secretly to the feast. As far as I am aware, Michael Jones does not dispute this.
‘Go to the festival yourselves. I am not[c] going to this festival, for my time has not yet fully come.” After saying this, he remained in Galilee. But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but, as it were, in secret.’
John 7:8-10, New Revised Standard Version (Updated Edition)
The NRSV UE is the translation preferred by most English-speaking professional Bible scholars.
The below link takes one to a free book—‘The Justified Lie by the Johannine Jesus in its Greco-Roman-Jewish Context’ (2nd ed., 2022)—by John MacDonald—that argues that Jesus is indeed portrayed by the Johannine author as lying, in these three verses.

Mark 10: 17-27
The Rich Man
17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. You shall not defraud. Honor your father and mother.’ ” 20 He said to him, “Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth.” 21 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money[a] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” 22 When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.
23 Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is[b] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 They were greatly astounded and said to one another,[c] “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.”
================================
Twenty years ago I was an interim pastor of a local church, and wanted to lead a new Bible study on non-violence; a parishioner, who had served in Vietnam sat down and opened the book that was chosen, and began screaming at me, really screaming and upset, for he had been wounded in Vietnam, this study was questioning who he was and what he did in his life.
Inadvertently my brainstorm of sharing a different approach to the Bible had violated this gentleman to his very core; the one thing a pastor never intentionally does. I asked his forgiveness, put the Bible study away, and never used it publicly again.
In the same manner, several years later I attended a meeting wearing clericals, and a woman minister started screaming and crying because the black clericals represented patriarchy and sexual abuse; since I have worn clericals and only colored ones.
In the months and years to come I would serve young and old homeless veterans as the one on Haight in the photo above; be in a Veterans PTSD group struggling with my issues, and assure each one of my thankfulness for their service. I remember a cousin and uncle who were veterans of World War II and Vietnam, both suffered silently from depression, and I would suggest PTSD through the years.
I do not believe in war, I do not believe in violence, but we live in a broken world, and like Mark Twain:  "Patriotism Is Supporting Your Country All the Time, And Only Your Government When It Deserves It! Mark Twain. We live in a "dirty rotten system", and my support is through caring for people who are disabled, homeless, and severely crippled.
There was a time early in my ministry when I was going through the process of being a military chaplain, but came to my senses when I admitted my being queer to myself. I could not stay in the closet! And we in our country are still struggling with letting queers in the military, especially transgenders!
In our election campaign season and on Memorial and Veteran's Day our politicians promise to eliminate homelessness among veterans on the street, and yet year after year I see the same people living in tents, unable to get their foot in the door. Several are disabled in wheelchairs, and all struggle with PTSD and other forms of mental illness, and yet they are homeless.
June is Pride Month! LGTBTQ'S celebrate they're being a presence in the world! But beneath the celebratory mood, real fear exists in parts of our country and the world. Homophobia is still alive and well in our religious institutions, government and social institutions, and our population! You should hear the comments I receive on my blog and through my email, most are telling me what a sinner I am, and what the Holy Scripture says about my way of life! My sister, a fundamentalist, will not talk to me, and canceled a meeting with me when I was back in Southeast Missouri to "clean the church," rather than to hang out with this sinner!
And so on this Memorial Day, we celebrate living veterans, queer veterans, and the deceased giving their lives for us, we celebrate their sacrifice and dedication. This Memorial Day I will take out the veterans on Polk and Haight for a meal, give them thanks for their service, and end the day by walking through the Presidio cemetery in prayer and thanksgiving!
This  June we celebrate "Pride Month", and are declaring to all who want to condemn and dehumanize LGBTQ individuals we are proud to be who we are, children of God!
We can talk about political parties, and
politicians, in their harm or no harm to individuals, but in reality, change comes only through each one of us looking at ourselves, and seeing every human being simply as a child of God, deserving of love and care without regard to sexual orientation, race, creed, and color. Change begins with you and me, and I invite you to join me in donating to the Wounded Warrier Project:

Malachi 1-4
Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible Chronological, I'm China. Today is the 30th day of September. Welcome. You made it. We're here. We're at the very end. We're at the very end of our week and the very end of this month, very end of the Old Testament. There's a lot of things being finished off today and so I hope that number one, you feel my heart. I hope you feel accomplished, especially if this is your first time and especially if this is your multiple It's time- just made-up that word for you. I have been going through the Bible chronologically. I know that reading it this way can be tiresome. Not like your most favorite just because of you know, it's lengthy and we read so much of the year in the Old Testament. And it's...I enjoy it. This is my favorite way to read the Bible. But I just hope that you feel like wow my eyes have been opened. Things are clicking for me. Things are making sense. I'm really enjoying this. Not because it's chronological and I'm reading it and my mom is reading it. It's because it's the word of the Lord and everyone has a different preferences. There's a billion different reading plans for sure. And this one is just like I said, my favorite- it helps me understand so many more things. Helps things click, but above all else, you've been in the word of the Lord every day for almost a full nine months and maybe if you've missed a few days or a few weeks or a few months, like, that's OK, glad you're here and glad that we get to finish this off together. And so with that being said, as you can probably guess, we are in the book of Malachi today and we're going to start it and finish it. So that means 1 through 4 and we are finishing off in this translation. I haven't really minded it. It's just such a mouthful to say, the New Revised Standard version updated edition.

Religious Reflections - Luke 16:10-17
Tumblr media
06/02/2023
Today’s Gospel reading from the Book of Common Prayer is Luke 16:10-17 which is as follows from the New Revised Standard Version updated edition (NRSVue) translation of the Bible:
(10) “Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much, and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. (11) If, then, you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? (12) And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own? (13) No slave can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
(14) The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they ridiculed him. (15) So he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts, for what is prized by humans is an abomination in the sight of God.
(16) “The Law and the Prophets were until John came; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is being proclaimed, and everyone tries to enter it by force. (17) But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter in the law to be dropped.
ANALYSIS:
A major theme of this passage is how something that occurs on a small scale can determine how it will play out on a larger scale. If one cannot perform a small task effectively, how can he or she be expected to take on a large task? It is important for improvement on a small scale to take place to achieve a positive effect on a large scale. If one wants to be a positive and effective leader in his or her community, he or she first needs to be a positive and effective leader of his or her family.
Another theme in this passage is the distinction between serving the two masters - God and wealth. Humans are spiritual beings and thus should strive to improve themselves on a spiritual level rather than on a material wealth level. A spiritually-adept individual with no material wealth will go farther in this world than a rich man who has no soul.
CALL TO ACTION:
My call to action from this passage is to find ways you can be more spiritually focused than materially focused. Perhaps instead of buying a new video game, an expensive piece of jewelry, or whatever, you purchase a copy of a religious text you have never read and learn from the spiritual wisdom contained there within. Also, when you perform good works, don’t think “How can I make money off this?” but rather do the good deeds for the sake of simply helping others and for the greater glory of God.

Numbers 16:41-18:32, Mark 16:1-20, Psalms 55:1-23, Proverbs 11:7
Today is the 12th day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today as we greet a brand-new week. We throw open the threshold and get to walk into it together and we get to the other side of the threshold and look out over this vista that become this week and realize we’re at the beginning. It’s a fresh start and we can make of this week what we choose. And let us…let us choose wisdom. Let us choose to walk with God as we walk through this week. And one of the ways that we do that is come together around the Global Campfire and allow the Scriptures to continue to speak into our lives. And, so, let's dive in. This week we will read from the New Revised Standard version, the updated edition. Numbers chapter 16 verse 41 through 18 verse 32.
Prayer:
Father, we thank you for your word and we thank you for this brand-new shiny week that we have stepped into together. And we thank you that it's out in front of us and we thank you that we have a fresh start and that our thoughts, words, and deeds will tell the story of this week. And it is our desire that it be a love story, a love story walking with you and enjoying the week together. And, so, even as we conclude the gospel of Mark today and reach the halfway point in the Gospels, we invite your Holy Spirit to lead us as we move into the gospel of Luke and spend the remainder of the week in it. Lead us into all truth, we pray. In the mighty and precious name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.
Community Prayer and Praise:
Hello everyone, it’s Soaring on Eagles Wings from Canada. Abba Father, I bring to You David from Kansas. You know everything about him, his brain injury which is now causing him anxiety and panic attacks and he's also very involved in the church ministry. You see him. You understand what he's going through. I pray that Your peace like a river will throw flow his body, that the panic attacks will cease in the name of Jesus the Christ, and he will continue to flourish in his church doing what You have called him to do. Here his prayer. Here our prayers for him and answer I pray. I also think of Tyler from Kentucky. Father he's been released from jail. His marriage now isn't going well because his wife wants out of it. Abba You’re the only one that can intervene in that relationship and restore the brokenness. O God speak to both of them individually and show them how they can turn things around. Speak to them collectively so that they are willing to reach out to each other and let not anything __. This marriage needs healing Lord. You are the one who ordained it. And, so, I pray that the marriage will be healed in the…
Good afternoon DAB community this is Wind and Water from Vancouver WA and I want to give a special shout out to Rosie AKA Great to be Free in Jesus. I really appreciate the way that you pray for all of our children and grandchildren and family members. Every time I hear you pray that’s your prayer and I'm so thankful for you doing that because that's my deepest prayer, is for my family and for my children and for my grandchildren. And I just wanna echo that prayer with you and thank you for…for being so considerate of all of the children and grandchildren and families out there. Father, I thank You for Rose AKA Great to be Free and Jesus. I thank You for her heart. And Father I do also want to lift up our children and grandchildren and sisters and brothers and our entire families Father. I just pray for pure hearts, for humility, for…for them being drawn to You just because of who You are and for them to see that and to understand that and to realize that and to be drawn to that. Thank You, Father, so much for the word. Thank You for Brian and his family the minister so richly. Thank You for all of our brothers and sisters across the globe in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Good morning DAB family this is The Kept One this prayer is for Winnie. Winnie, I think you called in. You talked about your nephew losing his wife sometime back and he was left to raise three kids and…and raising these kids it seems like he has abandoned them. I think you said your niece, your sister, and your parents who are elderly have stepped in to try to take care of these three kids. And again it seems like he…even though he's grieving it seems like he's abandoned the kids. But I just wanted to lift up your family and lift up your nephew who lost his wife. Father God, in Your word You said in psalms 34:18 it says the Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Father. we lift up Winnies nephew Lord God. It sounds like his spirit has been crushed Lord God. It sounds like his wife was the heavy lifter in the family and now it seems like he has to carry that burden. Father help him carry that burden Lord God. In the process as he continues to grieve Father, I pray for Your mercy I pray for Your strength Lord God. I pray that You send the Comforter that You promised that You would send word God. So, I pray for his comfort right now Lord God. I pray that the family comes together. Strengthen the entire family Lord God to find a better way Lord God to take care of these kids, that they'll rally together for the sake of the kids and keep it in mind that the nephew has lost his rib. This I pray in Your son Jesus’ name. Amen. Be blessed everyone.
Hi this is Delights in Me and I just wanna say to Manita from Lombard I so appreciate when you call. It's been pretty neat to watch you grow in community with the DAB. I don't think you were much of a caller before a couple of years ago, but I know you've listened for a really long time. But I know that you've been through a divorce and you are married to a pastor. I'm a pastor's daughter and I just want to say even though you're no longer the pastor's wife you still have that calling. You still have that heart, you still have the gift of being a pastor's wife, which is such an important role. And I encourage you to continue on with that. Here in our community, you…you have such a heart for the flock of the shepherd and you're very comforting and soothing like a like a mom. So, I appreciate that, and I bless you. Keep calling. Love you. Bye.
Hi DAB family Renee Losove here, Reborn and Saved in French and AKA Kathleen in Illinois. I am calling in because I just listened on March 8th, and I've heard a prayer request from Winnie. Add Lord it just broke my heart. She said that her nephew had called in a while back about his…his wife who had died and he is raising two daughters and a…and another baby it sounds like. And it sounds like every…people in the family have stepped up, Winnie has stepped up and has the kids on weekends and her parents who are in their 80s are helping take care of the baby during the week and the…she had mentioned the children also basically sleeping…having no…no place to sleep or just sleeping on the couch and on the floor. This is…this is not…this is not acceptable is it family? We have to pray. Let's pray right now about this family. Lord Jesus, I lift up Winnie to You. I thank You that she brought this to our attention, and I pray for her nephew, and I pray for these kids and for her. God bless her, her parents who are in their 80s who are trying to help. Oh, dear God…dear God I pray that this can be brought to the attention of a…of a local church that can help, that can…that there will be godly people who will step in and help this young man who has lost his wife, he was then evicted from his home. I mean how much...
Hi DAB family it's rich from Exeter UK here calling in today after listening to the 7th of March episode to pray for David from Kansas who is…has suffered a head injury and has as a result panic attacks, and fear and anxiety. Lord Jesus, I lift David up to You and I pray that You'll fill him with Your peace and Your love, Your deep Shalom. Father, in the uncertainty of what this head injury might result in we pray that You would bring healing into that situation Father God. We pray that You would heal his head, that You would make him whole again, physically well but also Father that You would fill him with Your love and Your peace. We pray particularly for those times when just at the head knowledge that You love him amongst the times of panic when he forgets all that Father. I pray that at that point he would experience Your deep Shalom, Your deep peace. We lift him up to You and thank You for him. Amen.

Hi Kornelius, As for conversion tools available for these formats, I don't think there are any around as I haven't seen any. That said, if epub and ewb files are database files, then you will need to to what Database engine (program) they were created from e.g., SQLite, Access, Paradox, and etc.
Easyworship 2009 Tagalog Bible Download
Tumblr media
If they are not database files but raw text (txt) files, then they can be opened in any text editor, including T4. This also goes with any rtf formatted files. If you have a the Bible program or the epub program on your PC, then all you need to do is copy the text from one program and paste it to T4 or some other program. T4 will export any nominated resource as an SQLite Database file to the resource type you've nominated it to be.
Tumblr media
For help of how to use T4 there is an excellent user guide available on this site which you can download. T4 can also be downloaded from this site. Just a thought here. Check this sight out to see if the version of the Bible you have on your Easy Worship Bible is also here. Saves you a whole heap of work.
Blessings, Edited by APsit190, 02 November 2012 - 06:11 PM. Back on this topic. I cannot see any link for T4.
Can anybody help me with converting.bblx to.ews and also.txt to.ewb please.ewb and.ews is bibleworship files. Easy Worship is a Database reader, in many respects that e-Sword is a Database reader as both reads Database files.
Easyworship 6 Bibles Torrent
The Database system e-Sword uses its files is SQLite. Easy Worship uses a totally different database system. T4 will not be able to convert any files for EasyWorship's database file system. Therefore there is no method, tool, or conversion software available from here to convert any e-Sword Bible files to EasyWorship Database system. About the only way this can be possibly is to convert e-Sword's Bible (.bbx) file to an ewb, is to export it as a csv file (using SQlite Manager), then imorport the csv file into EasyWorship. SQLite Browser will not export to csv. There are no gaurantees this will work, however from memory, I understand that EasyWorship does import csv files.

Also, you can try to use BeST to export a bblx file to csv.

Re: HELP! Bible Module of Ang Biblia (TAB) and other tagalog ver
The Ang Biblia is nearly ready. It should just need an identifier and to be uploaded. EDIT: I was mistaken. We have the Ang Biblia for Cebuano, not Tagalog. If you know of a public domain source to make the Tagalog, let us know. Is it under copyright? EDIT2: It will be ready and uploaded soon. Keep an eye on the website. We only have the 1905 version.

Re: HELP! Bible Module of Ang Biblia (TAB) and other tagalog ver
There may be a problem with some of the other versions. Because they are newer, if they have copyrights, those copyrights are still in effect. In fact, it may be that the 1905 Tagalog version has only been out of copyright for 9 years or so. If you like, you can check these copyrights and reply back. I know we have the Cebuano ready to be uploaded. Not sure when that will be. By the way, do you speak any/all of these languages? If so, would you be willing to help proofread some of these modules to make sure they are correct? Since I don't speak them, it is hard for me to proofread them, if not impossible. Adam

Re: HELP! Bible Module of Ang Biblia (TAB) and other tagalog
Hi Costas, Hope you're doing Ok. Thanks for all the hard work on theWord and for keeping it free. I have one question. Im currently working on a revised edition of our Tagalog Bible here in the Philippines. I've been a pastor for a while now, and through theWord, I think I have the sufficient tools necessary to produce a whole new translation of our Tagalog Bible and share it for free and I am thinking if its a good idea to update our Tagalog Bible module with my work, one book at a time. Like right now, I've done John and Mark's gospel and currently working on Luke. If I merge them with the old Tagalog module and update them as I go, would you accept the updates till all 66 books of the Bible have been updated? I know its a bit slow but it should pick up in time as I get more help. I attached the link of my sample module and it works perfectly except that whenever I restart TW, the module doesn't seem to appear after launch, even if it was the bible selected before I closed the program. Here it is: https://archive.org/download/DatingTaga ... AMG%20.ont Thanks, Edmund

Jesus Brought before Pilate
1 When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus in order to bring about his death. 2 They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate the governor.
The Suicide of Judas
3 When Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. 4 He said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” 5 Throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. 6 But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since they are blood money.” 7 After conferring together, they used them to buy the potter’s field as a place to bury foreigners. 8 For this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken through the prophet Jeremiah, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one on whom a price had been set, on whom some of the people of Israel had set a price, 10 and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”
Pilate Questions Jesus
11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You say so.” 12 But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he did not answer. 13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many accusations they make against you?” 14 But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
Barabbas or Jesus?
15 Now at the festival the governor was accustomed to release a prisoner for the crowd, anyone whom they wanted. 16 At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Jesus Barabbas. 17 So after they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you, Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 For he realized that it was out of jealousy that they had handed him over. 19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for today I have suffered a great deal because of a dream about him.” 20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed. 21 The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22 Pilate said to them, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” All of them said, “Let him be crucified!” 23 Then he asked, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”
Pilate Hands Jesus Over to Be Crucified
24 So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” 25 Then the people as a whole answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26 So he released Barabbas for them, and after flogging Jesus he handed him over to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole cohort around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and after twisting some thorns into a crown they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 They spat on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 After mocking him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
The Crucifixion of Jesus
32 As they went out, they came upon a man from Cyrene named Simon; they compelled this man to carry his cross. 33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes among themselves by casting lots; 36 then they sat down there and kept watch over him. 37 Over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”
38 Then two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by derided him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking him, saying, 42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he wants to, for he said, ‘I am God’s Son.’ ” 44 The rebels who were crucified with him also taunted him in the same way.
The Death of Jesus
45 From noon on, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 46 And about three o’clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 At once one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53 After his resurrection they came out of the tombs and entered the holy city and appeared to many. 54 Now when the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”
55 Many women were also there, looking on from a distance; they had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
The Burial of Jesus
57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who also was himself a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 So Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth 60 and laid it in his new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock. He then rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
The Guard at the Tomb
62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember what that impostor said while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 Therefore command the tomb to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, his disciples may go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception would be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers; go, make it as secure as you can.” 66 So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone. — Matthew 27 | New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition (NRSVUE) New Revised Standard Version, Updated Edition. The Lord's Day Q&A
You quote (and link to) Scripture from various sources. How do I know which is which?
Due to current copyright restrictions, our print and digital materials feature the 1901 American Standard Version (ASV) for Old and New Covenant citations. For the traditional Apocrypha — i.e. the deuterocanonical books included in the 1611 Authorized (King James) Version (AV/KJV) and other Bibles — we rely on [a] Edwin Cone Bissell's 1880 revised translation of the AV and [b] the 1894 Revised Version (RV). Bissell produced "a revision before the Revision," one overseen by Philip Schaff, who was also heavily involved in the AV Revision process during the 1870s and early 1880s. All three volumes are fundamentally sound, if somewhat dated, and fully serve our needs in communicating about Scripture and its implications for our spiritual lives. Whenever possible we use our preferred translation(s), so readers will always know which we trust. · NOTE: The list below will be updated as we post additional material; all texts are in the Public Domain.
· AV: The 1611 English Bible was corrected and standardized in 1769. While its "official" name is the Authorized Version (AV), most English speakers know it better as the King James Version (KJV) — online AV here.
· Bissell: E. Bissell's revision of the AV Apocrypha was published in 1880 as a supplement to John Peter Lange's A Commentary on the Holy Scriptures series (edited from the German by P. Schaff) — no HTML version available.
· RV: The 1611 English (AV) Bible was re-translated and re-released between 1881 and 1894 — the New Covenant in 1881, the Old Covenant in 1885, the Apocrypha in 1894 (in a separate volume) — online RV here.
· ASV: The American committee involved with the AV Revision published their own, slightly different version in 1901. Dubbed the "Standard Edition" at the time, it is now known as the American Standard Version (ASV) — online ASV here.

Commentary
So this concludes the book of Nehemiah. This concludes the book of Psalms for us. And we just continue to read about The the the full story of Nehemiah wanting to rebuild the the city of Jerusalem. And so we read today about population of the city is increasing and kind of what comes with that is Um A lot of names, A lot of good names. A lot of names that are hard to pronounce, but good names nonetheless. And you know, list of priests and Levites. All the things that are necessary for Restoration that were in place at one point and are now having to kind of get resettled. Dedication of the city wall responsibilities that are going to be needed and to take place For the temple. And then also just the the restoring and remembering of what God had said, which is hey, listen, we need to Kind of keep the foreigners separated from Israel here. We're not intermarrying, we're not having mixed marriages and let's pull up a a name that it didn't really work out very well for being Soloman. So if it didn't work out well for him, How in the world do you expect it to work out well for you? And so he, We read that and those are the final words of Nehemiah.
Prayer
And so, God, I just thank you again that you are constantly showing us that you are heart is for redemption, Reconciliation, restoration, rebuilding. And I thank you that we get to be a part of it, that you ask us to partner with you and I pray that we would be a people who desire that, that would be our hearts to see it in our lives, to see it in our city. To see it in the areas that we live. And I just think you got that We get to partner with you. We get to partner with heaven in whatever it is that you have set, whatever you see fit, and I thank you did, it gets to look different from what we may think it will. We are not the judge. We are not the Lord. But you are. And you're not asking us to be sweet, to just rest in the fact Of trust, and I thank you for that. And it's in your name we pray, Amen.

Hi, this is Chastity from Kansas. I wanted to call with encouragement and prayer for the woman who had called. I don't think you left your name about how it's difficult to read through the book of Daniel this year just because you had read through it last year with your fiance and now you might be coming up on the end of that engagement and relationship. I just want to encourage you to cling to the word of God. Stay close to him. Lean into Him. He's your father and he loves you so much He knew you before you were even formed in your mother's womb. He knows every hair on your head, He knows every single tear you've ever cried, and he loves you so much he's walking through this pain with you. I almost came to the end of my marriage last year. Our marriage almost ended but Clinging to God, And being involved in this Godly community with prayer, fasting and just Being in close connection with God and believers that love Jesus Is what helped us and helped me personally. It made me grow closer to God, and for that I'm honestly thankful. Sometimes we just have to come to the end of something to realize our need for God, and as difficult as it is Having that amazing closer relationship with the Lord is so worth it. I just want to pray for you. Lord Jesus, I lift up this beautiful child of yours to you Alright, thank you for reaching out and calling to ask for prayer and expressing that it is difficult to read in the Book of Daniel right now. God, we we should be transparent with believers, and I thank you God that she was. I pray for this relationship, Lord, that if it's your will that it be restored, that you would bring it back together. And if not, Lord God, I pray that you'll be with both parties. God even just bringing their hearts to you. And maybe they could even just have a friendship. Thank you for this community of.

Religious Reflections - Luke 16:1-9
Tumblr media
June 1st, 2023
Today’s designated Gospel reading from the Book of Common Prayer is Luke 16:1-9. The text of which is as follows from the New Revised Standard Version updated edition (NRSVue) translation of the Bible:
The Parable of the Dishonest Manager
(1) Then Jesus said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was squandering his property. (2) So he summoned him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give me an accounting of your management because you cannot be my manager any longer.’ (3) Then the manager said to himself, ‘What will I do, now that my master is taking the position away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. (4) I have decided what to do so that, when I am dismissed as manager, people may welcome me into their homes.’ (5) So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ (6) He answered, ‘A hundred jugs of olive oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it fifty.’ (7) Then he asked another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He replied, ‘A hundred containers of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill and make it eighty.’ (8) And his master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly, for the children of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light. (9) And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of dishonest wealth so that when it is gone they may welcome you into the eternal homes.
ANALYSIS:
A major lesson in this parable is the importance of being diligent in making things right as the end approaches. When you know the end is near, which could be when one is about to lose a job, is terminally ill, is ending a relationship, etc., it is wise to prepare for what lies ahead. The manager made good with the debtors to ensure that he would have support when the time of his termination of employment comes. He knows that he cannot make it in other professions, so he needs to make friends who can support him, and those whose debts he lowered probably would be kind to him. It is always good to have friends you can fall back on for when times feel like your life, career, or relationship is over. It is like how George Bailey reads Clarence’s message in the book at the end of It’s A Wonderful Life, “No man is a failure who has friends.”
From a business standpoint, this parable illustrates issues that can arise in a company. If an owner of a business tells his or her manager that he or she will be fired, the owner better let him or her go on the spot, or else the manager could retaliate to sabotage the owner’s business. There also is the idea that the situation in this parable could have been avoided had the rich man investigated the accusations more thoroughly to possibly find them to be false and allow the manager to keep his job.
CALL TO ACTION:
My call to action from reading this passage is to find workplace problems and ways to fix them. 70% of one’s life is spent on work, so if your workplace is in a poor state then most of your life is in a poor state. Solving the problems of work can help avoid workplace conflicts and get work completed more efficiently and make a happier work environment and lead to a happier life.
My other call to action is to invest in those friends and family who support you. Become close friends with those in your community so that you can help each other in times of need. Join a social club, a community center, and/or a church. Having a large group of friends and acquaintances can help you get the support you need, especially when you are down and troubled and need a helping hand (like the song “You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King). It also is good to show gratitude to those who have helped you through troubled times, especially those moments when you would not have been able to go on without them, and always be prepared to help others in return to pay it forward.
