Cannon Dancin' In The Middle East
Tumblr media
If the Strider series represents a Japanese team making a blazing action game set in a Soviet futurescape, then Cannon Dancer is the same but for the Middle East.
Prevously unknown except to the handful of people who either touched the arcade cabinet or downloaded the ROM for MAME, Cannon Dancer flew under the radar for nearly 30 years until it got a surprise remaster earlier this year. I have the pleasure of reporting that Cannon Dancer's 2023 Switch port is just as batshit as the 1996 arcade original, and I'm glad that a wider audience can now experience the joy of an assassin in floopy trousers rampaging through the streets of future Dubai, kicking tigers in the face and battling giant goddesses for control over the planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cannon Dancer is a spiritual successor to the original Strider, made by designer Kouichi Yotsui after he left Capcom and decided to channel the same energy that birthed Strider Hiryu for Mitchell Corporation. He did this despite the fact that arcade platforming action games were pretty much dead in '96, and as a result Cannon Dancer never did well financially. But I doubt that anyone who played this visual kaleidoscope back in the day forgot it. Cannon Dancer bursts with bright colors and killer sprite art, depicting some of the most vibrant levels I've ever seen.
It starts out in Agadan, a cyberpunk UAE-style metropolis on the Persian Gulf, and continues to a temple, a sprawing desert, the Indian Ocean, some forest near Aleppo, Prague, and a weird final level that may or may not take place in the Earth's upper hemisphere, except that it's red and nightmarish instead of freezing cold. Throughout all these arenas, Cannon Dancer's protagonist, a dude named Kirin, exquisitely beats ass by kicking things until they explode and getting powerups that shoot after-images of himself across the screen. How do you know you've gotten a power up? The color of Kirin's pants change. It's great stuff.
Visually, I've appreciated Cannon Dancer's aesthetic ever since I first glimpsed it in emulated screenshots. Just as the Strider series' unusual penchant for Soviet-era futurism feels dated yet novel at the same time, Cannon Dancer's depiction of Western Asia populated by robots, techno troopers, oil rig mechs and pyamids rising above skyscapes is rad. It's rare to get a Japanese game (or any game from the '90s and 2000s, really) that channels the Middle East in a way that isn't just an Arabian Nights retread or some drab, browish setting for world militaries to make a mess in. While I wouldn't exactly call Cannon Dancer's "representation" good, it's at least fun and memorable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One missed opportunity is that Kirin doesn't appear to be Middle Eastern himself, despite the English version giving him the Turkish name "Osman." (In fact, Cannon Dancer was released outside of Japan as Osman, and the new re-release generously goes by the title Cannon Dancer Osman. But let's be real, Cannon Dancer is 100% the better name.) Instead, he seems to be your usual Japanese action game badass who serves on Teki, a mercenary squad. He takes orders from Jack Layzon, the attorney general of the WORLD who desses like a 1930s gangster, because Cannon Dancer's vision of the future is wild. After a routine mission to take down cultists goes haywire, Kirin is left in the desert to rot and forced to seek revenge on his old Teki comrades and Mr. Layzon. Along the way, the deity Abdullah enslaves him as her personal avatar of justice...until Kirin breaks free and goes to beat the crud out of her as well, presumably becoming a deity himself by the end of the game.
This is my own interpretation of the plot as gathered from the various Cannon Dancer entries on the Strider wiki, by the way. There is a surprising amount of story bubbling around the edges of this game, but it's all stuff cobbled together from interviews or magazine articles. There are actual cutscenes, sure, but they feel like the work of a development team tasked to create a game based on an 80-episode 1995 anime about a cyber ninja in Baghdad that nobody else watched. Obviously, most Japanese games in the '90s had something lost in translation. But Cannon Dancer takes it to a new level, relishing in its incomprehensible nature yet offering the curious a treasure trove of lore if they bother to dig around online. It reminds me of the underrated Strider NES game, which was also baffling yet at least had a manga to fill in the gaps, and I respect it for that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As far as its status as a Strider spiritual successor goes, I'd say that I actually prefer Cannon Dancer over both Strider 2 and Double Helix's 2014 Strider remix. Those are decent games held back by poor pacing, whereas Cannon Dancer is just as tight as the original 1989 Strider, if not more so thanks to the additional years that Kouichi Yotsui and his team had to improve on gameplay mechanics. And while you could dismiss Cannon Dancer as too much of a clone to win such praise, as some did in the years leading up to its re-release, I think there's more room out there for mashups which can best be described as "neon-drenched Dubai nightlife meets Jojo's Bizarre Adventure." Cannon Dancer is a garish Middle Eastern fever dream, and the world is better off for its existence.

How to start business in Dubai
Tumblr media
Thinking of setting up shop in the vibrant heart of the UAE? You’re in the right spot! Dubai isn’t just a city of towering skyscrapers and sprawling malls; it’s a thriving hub for businesses keen on making their mark in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region and beyond. Whether you’re a Brit eyeing the Middle Eastern markets or a global entrepreneur ready to dive into new waters, Dubai’s welcoming shores are hard to resist. Let’s walk through the nuts and bolts of starting your enterprise in Dubai, making the process as breezy as an Arabian night.
Why Dubai?
Dubai’s not just about glitz and glamour; it’s a strategic gateway to the GCC market, offering a kaleidoscope of opportunities for businesses. Its central location makes it a crossroads for international flights and trade routes, while its talent-rich pool ensures you’re never short of expertise. But what really sets Dubai apart is its business-friendly environment, designed to nurture startups and established enterprises alike.
Where to Begin: Mainland vs. Free Zone
Before you leap into the business scene, you’ve got a choice to make: set up on the Dubai mainland or anchor down in one of its Free Zones. Both have their perks, but the key difference lies in ownership and operational scope. On the mainland, you’ll need a local sponsor to hold a majority share if you’re venturing into certain sectors. Meanwhile, Free Zones offer you full ownership and tax exemptions, with the slight catch of being restricted to operating within those zones, depending on your business license.
Navigating Licenses and Legalities
Your business’s nature dictates the type of license you’ll need, ranging from commercial and educational to media and ecommerce. In Dubai, your license is your gateway to operation, so getting this step right is crucial. While the process might sound daunting, it’s streamlined to support entrepreneurs, with clear guidelines and support available for those who seek it.
Choosing Your Business Structure
Dubai offers a smorgasbord of business structures, each with its own set of rules and benefits. Whether you’re flying solo as a sole proprietorship or setting up a limited liability company (LLC), the choice impacts everything from your financial liability to the way you operate. Free Zone entities enjoy special advantages but remember, some structures are exclusive to the mainland. Understanding these options is key to finding the best fit for your business dream.
The Step-by-Step Process to Launch
Identify your business type and license — Tailor this to your vision and the services or products you intend to offer.
Choose your business structure — Select one that aligns with your goals, be it a Free Zone LLC or a partnership on the mainland.
Register your company trade name — Make it unique and reflective of your brand.
Select your business space — From sleek offices to spacious warehouses, find a spot that suits your needs.
Submit your documents — Get all your paperwork in order for approval.
Register your business and get your license — With approvals in hand, you’re ready to make it official.
FAQs
How much does it cost to start a business in Dubai?
The cost varies widely based on your business type, size, and location. Starting in a Free Zone might be more budget-friendly, especially for solo entrepreneurs, while mainland ventures can require a heftier investment.
Is it easy to start a business in Dubai?
Yes, with Dubai’s business-friendly regulations and streamlined processes, setting up your business can be straightforward. The government’s online portals and dedicated agents make it even easier, guiding you every step of the way.
Is Dubai startup-friendly?
Absolutely! Dubai is keen on attracting innovative minds and startups, offering a supportive ecosystem, fast approvals, and a multitude of opportunities for growth.
Wrapping Up
Embarking on your business journey in Dubai might seem like navigating through a maze at first glance. But with the right map in hand — this guide — you’ll find the path surprisingly clear. Dubai offers a dynamic platform for entrepreneurs ready to venture into the Middle Eastern markets, with an array of options to suit various business needs. Reader is a researcher with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, as well as a field agent. PREVIOUS CHAPTER AO3: The Support System
A/N: Find this chapter on AO3 here. Fic requests are welcome!
Warnings: none
Audience: general.
______________________________________________________________
CHAPTER 11:
You walk into the dining room, where Loki is unwrapping burgers and placing them on plates.
‘Oh we don’t need that; we can just eat from the wrappers’. He wrinkles his nose at the thought. ‘We are already eating junk, we don’t need to look like it’.
You let out a horrified laugh at his statement, and he continues plating the food.
‘So, Loki…’ you take your seat as he serves you fries. ‘Why were you looking to access my files?’
He looks at you for split second before returning his attention to serving. You wait. Once he’s done, he sits down across from you and locks eyes with you. ‘I was curious’. ‘You can ask me’. ‘You wouldn’t tell me’.
Fair enough, you think. A year in the Avengers Tower, and even Tony had very little idea about your past. You just didn’t want anyone getting too close, but Loki trusted you enough to tell you about Thanos, and you feel like you should reciprocate.
‘Fine. You can ask me five questions; I will answer them as honestly as I can’ you say. His eyes widen. ‘Really!?’ ‘Yes. And that was one, so you got four left’.
He looks hurt, and begs to have the first question back, but you refuse, laughing. He frowns and accepts it finally.
‘What do you want to ask?’ you ask, as you sink your teeth into a burger. You feel his eyes on you, but you don’t look back at him. This is awkward enough as it is.
After a minute’s pause, he asks, ‘What were you asking protection from that night?’
You now look at him, still chewing your burger. You lean back and finish chewing, then swallow. You take a sip of your coke. Then you take a deep breath. ‘I thought I was being chased by men who wanted to take something from me that was dear to me’.
Loki nods. ‘I want to ask what the thing was, but I assume you don’t wish to tell me yet’.
You smile. ‘You’re slyly trying to throw in more questions’. ‘Can’t hurt to try. Please let me keep my remaining three’.
You smile and nod, and he thanks you.
‘Where were you, in this dream?’ he asks.
These questions are oddly specific; you were expecting him to just ask what happened or something general.
‘I was in my childhood home’ you reply. Two more questions left.
Loki is taking his time now. He has started on his meal, occasionally opening his mouth to ask something, then shutting it again. You continue eating.
‘When was the last time you got genuinely drunk?’ You sigh. You wash down the fries with another sip of coke. ‘Four years ago’ you say. ‘Of course, until a few nights ago with you’.
He goes back to eating. So do you.
‘Will there come a time when you tell me everything?’ he asks finally. ‘Are you sure you want that to be your last question?’ ‘I am hoping I get five more some other time, and an indefinite amount one day. So yes’.
You look away from him, down at your plate. You’re nervously fidgeting with the straw in your drink. You again feel his eyes on you, but you’re fixated on the food on your plate.
‘You can take your time to…’ ‘I might’ you interrupt. You look up at him and he’s smiling. ‘I’m glad’ he says.
xx
‘Loki, you haven’t told us yet what you wanna do’ Tony calls to him at dinner. ‘The weekend is getting close’. ‘I’ve decided’ he says. ‘But it does take up a considerable amount of funds and perhaps preparation, so we can keep this for another weekend, perhaps next month’. ‘Money is no object’ Tony declares. ‘Well…’ he smiles at you. ‘Since everyone who went to Dubai recently and didn’t get to stay to take in the sights, I thought maybe we could go for a weekend’.
Your eyes widen, aware that you probably look like an excited child to him right now.
‘And you could be our guide’ he winks at you. ‘I know you love to teach people things’. ‘That’s an understatement’ Bruce says. ‘But I’m up for this. Guys?’
Everyone agrees.
‘It’s settled then. We finish up with Raunverkuleiki, let her go to wherever she wants to go, and then we leave for Dubai’ Tony says. ‘A weekend’s no good, though. I say a whole week’.
The rest of the dinner is people asking you questions about the city, especially how much sunscreen they would require.
‘Don’t worry’ you reassure them. ‘It’ll be quite pleasant, it’s the end of November and just glorious’. ‘Anything we should know before going there?’ Bruce asks. ‘Islamic law and all that?’ You have to admire Bruce for asking. ‘Not a lot. Only certain things, I'll hold a presentation later' you say, inviting laughs from the group.
Eventually though, you allow yourself to tune out while everyone else is talking about Raunverkuleiki and what they’re looking forward to in Dubai.
xx
‘You didn’t have to do that’ you tell Loki, as he enters your room with the DVD for season 6. ‘Do what?’ ‘You could have made us do literally anything this weekend. Like Thor said, Stark gave you too much power. You didn’t have to ask for us to go back to Dubai’. ‘Why do you think I did it for you?’ he asks with a sly smile. ‘I… didn’t you?’ ‘No. Get over yourself’ he teases, popping the DVD in the player. ‘I just wanted to go to the tallest building in the world’. ‘Right…’ you’re a little suspicious but decide not to pursue. He gets into bed with you and hits play on the remote.
The opening credits play. ‘I’ve noticed that if Moffat writes the episode, it’s bound to be sad or terrible’ he comments.  ‘Oh, don’t ever watch Sherlock’. ‘What’s that?’ ‘We’ll watch it next’ ‘I thought you said not to watch it?’ Loki asks, confused. ‘No, don’t listen to me. We’ll watch it, and then I’ll tell you we shouldn’t have watched it’. ‘Wha…’ ‘Just go with it’ you pat his leg. ‘Now sshh’.
xx
Raunverkuleiki is now up, curiously browsing through Tony’s lab, touching everything. You’d think Tony would completely freak out and keep asking her to please sit down and not touch anything, but Tony’s too busy watching her just move like liquid. Bruce is also captivated.
So are you.
She looks as fragile as glass, but you know there’s more power in there than all the Iron Man suits put together from all the parallel universes.
‘What is it exactly you can do?’ Bruce asks. ‘She can manipulate reality. Make it rain diamonds, for example’ Vision says. ‘That’s meteorologically impossible’ Tony retorts. ‘He just said she can manipulate reality- it doesn’t have to make logical sense’ you say.
Tony shrugs. ‘Alright, how do we know you won’t go wherever you have to go and end up causing destruction?’ ‘TONY!’ you shout. ‘She says she’s going home’ Vision says. ‘Tony, can you be delicate?’ you scold him.
‘She says she isn’t meant to manipulate reality’ Vision continues. ‘Just like her sister’s purpose isn’t to manipulate Time, nor is it her sister’s purpose to give its holder Power. They only have these gifts, but ever since they were formed, they were used by others'.
‘They used to be people’ Vision goes on, ‘They changed themselves to look like stones so they would be left alone, and have stayed that way so long, it was the only life they knew’.
You stare at Raunverkuleiki in disbelief, and feeling a little sorry.
‘Tony… the Power stone…’ Bruce starts… he looks sad, but also a little afraid. ‘I know’ Tony responds quickly, not wanting him to go on. ‘She’s asking what about it’ Vision says.
You sigh. ‘Raunverkuleiki, what is the name of your sister? The… Power?’ ‘Chikara’ Vision says. ‘Japanese now’ you interest is piqued more and more. ‘Raunverkuleiki, how is it that you are all from different mythologies?’ ‘They aren’t different’ Vision says. ‘She says they all come from Omnipotent’. ‘Omnipotent… is the same for all of them?’ ‘It is how the universe began, and it began once, in one birth, from one Omnipotent, so yes’
You are positively bursting at this point. ‘Could you please name your other sisters?’
You see Raunverkuleiki’s head cock to one side.
‘Waqt is Time...’ Vision begins. ‘Raunverkuleiki is her. Reality. Chikara is Power. Psychi is Soul. Kōngjiān is Space. Geedagte is Mind…’
Recognising each of these words, you’re getting more and more worked up. But Vision doesn’t look like he’s done.  ‘…and Ahkka is Ego’.
‘What?’ Tony exclaims. ‘What the hell does that mean, there is a seventh stone?’    ‘Ahkka died. Peter Quill killed him’ Vision responds.
Having the mind stone allowed him access to that sort of information too, so he wasn’t asking Raunverkuleiki all the questions.
‘Him!?’ Bruce asks.   ‘She says it’s a good thing, he was the most dangerous and ambitious’.   ‘QUILL killed the most powerful one?’ Tony asks in disbelief.   ‘She is asking what Bruce was saying about Chikara’.
‘Right…’ you purse your lips. ‘Thing is uh… Chikara is currently being used to power an entire camp of refugees on the other side of the world’.
Raunverkuleiki floats over, very close to you, and it feels threatening.
‘She is asking you to release her’.   ‘We need an alternate source of power. If you can make one, we’ll be more than happy to hand your sister back to you’ Tony says.
The room instantly glows red, and it has become hotter.
‘She doesn’t agree, to that’ Vision says.   ‘Oh really, I guess I misread that’ Tony says, ‘Listen Raunverkuleiki, we can’t leave thousands of children without electricity and medical facilities. If you can…’   ‘Tony, a minute?’ you interrupt.
xx
‘You can’t seriously tell me you’re considering letting Power go’   ‘Chikara’ you correct Tony. ‘And I did tell you these beings are not obligated to help us. They aren’t even supposed to help us, they just want to go home and be a family’.   ‘We can’t leave…’   ‘Try asking, Tony. Not demanding’ you say. ‘Maybe she would, for example, like to meet Chikara and speak to her’.
Tony glares at you. ‘What if she leaves?’.
‘She may not until we have an alternative source’ you try to reassure him. ‘At least try’.   He sighs. ‘I don’t like this’.   ‘I know’. He shakes his head and opens the door. ‘I’m considering it, okay? I’ll see you in the lab’ he goes inside.
Loki, who has been listening, pipes up from behind you, ‘Can I see her?’
‘Oh!’ you jump and turn around. ‘How long have you been there!?’   ‘Since you walked in. May I see her?’   ‘Yeah, come along’.
xx
‘Hello, Raunverkuleiki’ Loki greets as he walks into Tony’s lab for the first time. He puts a certain amount of stress on the name, and it doesn’t escape you.
The room gets a few degrees hotter, and Raunverkuleiki goes to hide behind Vision.
‘You didn’t tell me you were Norse. Raun, huh? Why didn’t you tell me?’   ‘She’s asking what you are doing here’ Vision says. ‘Oh I know what she says’.  ‘You know each other!?’ you gasp.
‘Raun…’ Loki peers behind Vision. ‘It’s no use hiding behind him’.
Raunverkuleiki steps out from behind him and stands, her body language signalling that she is embarrassed.
‘Why didn’t you say you were Norse?’ Loki asks. ‘What do you mean you aren’t, your name is Raunverkuleiki, what does that sound to you, Welsh?... No, I don’t mind, it’s a lovely name, I just want to know why you didn’t tell me…. WHAT!?... No way…’
You stare at Loki when he talks, and stare at Raunverkuleiki when there’s a pause, even though you have no idea what 's happening. You’re dying to know what she’s saying.
‘…well you could have still told me' he continues, 'it’s a little disturbing that you wouldn’t tell me given everything... Yes, I know we’re ALL, in a sense, related, but I would still like to know’  ‘EXCUSE ME?’ you shout.
Loki looks at you. ‘Yes, we used to be a thing, get over it’.
‘WHAT?’ you, Tony, Bruce, Vision say in unison.   ‘Hold on, Loki…’ you walk over to him, ‘Did you… literally date Reality?’ ‘Yes’.
You’re appalled at how this is completely normal to him. But now you realise why she doesn’t want to be called Raun.
‘So… hold on, you’re related?’ Bruce asks.  ‘Not quite’ Loki explains. ‘I mean… possibly. The truth is, these things are unclear. Omnipotent made the first gods, from which Odin and the Frost Giants came, and Raun is his daughter’.   ‘Whose daughter?’ Bruce asks.   ‘Omnipotent. He has no name’.   ‘Right… you are cousins, then?’ Tony asks.   ‘It’s not quite so black and white’ Loki smiles. He turns back to Raunverkuleiki. ‘But I am glad you’re okay. I hope you’ll be off home now’.
Raunverkuleiki is nodding vigorously, and Loki gives her a hug, and then leaves, but not before winking at you on his way out.
‘So after that very weird reunion…’ Tony interjects. ‘Raunverkuleiki, we will take you to meet your sister. But I do have a request’.   ‘She’s listening’ Vision says. ‘When you meet her, please discuss leaving before actually leaving. If I get a little time, I can try and find a way to power the camp without her’.   ‘She says alright’ Vision confirms. ‘She wants to go back to the statis cube now’. ‘Of course’ Tony walks to the cube and opens the door.
Raunverkuleiki runs in and curls up again. You think it’s kind of cute.

Tumblr media
There is another reason why I didn’t want to sleep here, Robyn’ bed is not exactly big, I mean luckily for me I’m skinny but it’s not the biggest bed I’ve been in, it does mean I’m closer to Robyn but I can hear her whimpering in her sleep and it’s really upsetting me, now I can’t sleep. I can’t exactly move either, she is holding onto my arm. I’ve never heard Robyn whimper in her sleep before so this is new to me but also it’s just not what I want, she’s really hurt by him this time. I just don’t know what to do, keeping it from her just causes whole lot of shit for Terry but then telling her, she will be devastated and rightly so, her whole life has been a lie in regards to her father. This whole situation could have been avoided if he just stopped being selfish, just love her. I did honestly think I would have had a problem with my dad, I thought he would have never forgiven me for it, I thought he would have done a lot of things but he didn’t, he has been there for me and Robyn, it was nice to hear that he called her off of his own back. I think he did assume that Robyn was going to come after me for the money, which was not a thing, she didn’t care for it, I mean even I tested that out myself by not telling her the truth. I’m just very much nervous about this whole thing, I do hope it’s Thomas that says it seeing as he wants to be a bitch ass in this situation.
I faked my yawn as I stretched out, I felt Robyn starting to wake up and move around so I had to make out like I slept when I didn’t “are you awake?” Robyn said, it’s still dark outside so it’s like way early in the morning and she is awake “yeah I am, what’s up?” Feeling Robyn’ hand placed on my chest, the side of her face pressed against my chest “I’m just not sleeping well” opening my eyes slowly “same, I can’t sleep because you’re upset, it’s hurting me” placing my hand atop of hers “did I wake you?” Pulling her hand up, pressing a kiss to the tip of her fingers “no, you didn’t. Just can’t rest, I was thinking. I can’t wait to see you on the wedding day, how beautiful you will look” looking down at her, that made her smile “I can’t wait to see you without this beard, I just feel a little deflated. I just don’t feel like my life is supposed to be like this? I just don’t get it, I always said to you I wanted my daughter to have what I had, I was a daddy’s girl, he loved me and then he just done this to me, I don’t get it” now she is crying again “I am sorry, some people can’t be helped” I wish I could beat his ass again, my poor baby is crying again “sorry” Robyn got up “I am wetting your chest, I will be back” grabbing her arm “Bonita” I said, Robyn looked at me. It was a weird feeling to see, she dead ass looks like her real dad, she has his features “yes?” Robyn said breaking my train of thoughts “I love you, I don’t want you upset” reaching over and wiping her tear “I love you too” Robyn smiled at me but she is teary eyed “you are my pootie, let me go toilet” I don’t want her to go, I know what she is going to do, she is going to cry her eyes out.
Robyn just makes me so sad; I don’t like her being in this way at all. Robyn is crying in the toilet; she hasn’t come out “what is she like little momma” Reign in the morning makes me smile, her hair is all over and she is so cute and cuddly, she looks so lost too “morning queen” pressing a kiss to her cheek “Robyn, I will be in the bedroom” I said as I made my way to the bedroom, Reign rested her head against my shoulder “aww Mir Amor, you want snuggles” rubbing her back lightly, kicking the door shut and walking around the bed, moving my hand away from her back and she lifted her head up “what is it?” my little angel just staring at me “you want daddy to rub your back? OK, you lay back then” rubbing her back again and she laid her head back down “my little snuggle monster” slowly sitting down on the bed and shuffling back, moving my hand away from Reign and then pushing myself back using my hand. Reign is really out here demanding back rubs, she is lifting her head up again “yes ma’am?” staring back at her, I don’t know who she is staring at like this. She placed her head back on my shoulder, she is a damn diva with these back rubs “come on now” moving Reign from off of my shoulder and placing her on the bed, grabbing the pillows at the side of me which is Robyn’ pillows but placed them behind Reign “let’s prop you up so you can see daddy face” Reign grinned at me “daddy hand hurt baby, I can’t keep on rubbing your back. Your daddy is broken, I am slowly breaking” I chuckled, touching her hand. My hand is looking very sore, pushing back Reign’ hair after “you can look at daddy” I need to check on some emails and messages, I have a lot of updates to look at.
Deleting the email and going onto the next email “you see this Reign, so I got an email from Nike. So listen to this Reign, leave boo thang alone” taking the bear from her “it says, Hi Mr Davenport, it’s John Donahoe, we met at the fashion show. I would like to use your New York hotel for a meeting for my partners, we will be inviting Lebron James, as we are developing the new set of sneakers and clothing line. I want to also fulfil a deal we both spoke on which was opening an exclusive Nike store in your Dubai hotel, alongside the likes of Gucci. Looking forward to hearing from you, John” looking at Reign “now I remember I met him, he thought he was special, I asked him Reign about opening a store in my Dubai hotel. He thought I was funny, but he didn’t see my idea, my plan, my vision. Reign, the hotel has it’s own island, with it’s own mall in there, I have the likes of Burberry, Gucci, Hermes there. Now he wants to come to me, laughable. See with business, they all fake, they all come back” Reign lifted her arms up to me “sure, but Reign. I will teach you the ways” picking her up and placing Reign on my lap “so I will leave this on read, I don’t care who he is” the bedroom door opened “I am back” side eyeing Robyn “all that time?” I said, “I went downstairs” letting on oh “then who the hell was I talking too in the bathroom?” shaking my head “yourself maybe, I just went to have some water. She is awake, Maurice she adores you so much. I get jealous” Robyn climbed on the bed “baby she loves you too” Robyn sat next to me on the bed.
Robyn is feeding Reign upstairs so I came down, I am hungry too “morning friend” Leon said “hey, you stayed the night?” he got up from the couch “yeah, I couldn’t sleep, the same with mom. She’s just been here worrying” walking over to the dining table “you look terrible, I mean so do I” pulling the chair back “I contacted Thomas, he said to me that it’s your daughter. I want out” Terry shook her head “I have no tears for that man, but he is right. She is my daughter; she is my blood, so this is my issue. It’s over for Thomas and I, we spoke and I said it’s over, I ended it and he said things but I don’t care. Now I have stayed awake all night thinking, and I did this” Terry paused “I want my daughter to have the best start to life, to a marriage. Why enter a new lease of life with this burden that I did, I wanted to protect her, I wanted my daughter to have a dad, I wanted her to have love and he did do that. Just he slipped away, he thought he was losing Robyn and there was no bond there. He hated me for it but it’s not true, he has broken her heart already. Maurice you got to promise me you will never break her heart, when you make her a Davenport that will give Robyn a purpose, a difference, a change she needs when she finds out. I want her to be a Davenport as quickly as possible, because Willis is something she won’t be. Please don’t ever hurt her, I love that girl so much so I need you to promise me” nodding my head “I got so much respect for you Terry, you know that” she is getting me teary eyed “I want to tell her, the truth. Because she will enter married life not knowing why, it’s killing her more being this way, it’s horrible and I hate Thomas for this” taking in a deep breath “we got this Maurice” Leon grabbed my arm “how is she supposed to move on from it, tell me this?” I said, I am just so sad “she will, for you. She has you Maurice, and she will move on with you” Terry really believes in me but I don’t believe in me “why can’t we just wait for after the wedding, I have to sleep in the bed with Robyn when she is whimpering in her sleep, it’s wrong. But then I also don’t want her to enter married life with this issue” looking at Leon “what you think?” I asked him “you’re her best friend, you have known her longer than I have” he has to help me out here “I think” Leon drifted off “I think my friend deserves to know, she needs to know this is not her fault because she will be thinking she did something wrong when she has done nothing wrong. Terry is right, she needs to know, she needs to know that she has done nothing wrong and she does have you. The sooner she is your wife, the better so she has nothing to do with him” I guess I am outnumbered with it “fine” I mumbled, what more can I say.
I am put off my food now, I don’t want breakfast anymore. My phone started ringing in my hand, it’s my dad so I will pick up. Answering the call “dad” I said down the phone, we are all waiting for Robyn to come down, but she isn’t at all, I wish she would “where are you? I rang the hotel, you’re not there son?” I stifled out a yawn, I never said it to him “I am in Cali, I told you about me wanting to get married to Robyn on her birthday, so she came here to tell the family so yeah. That is what is happening, when are you coming back? How is Tokyo? Mom said she hates the food there” rubbing the top of my head “have you ate Maurice?” looking at Robyn, she is here “your mom doesn’t like how they make the food here but she is well, losing weight” I can hear my mom shouting in the background which made me laugh “yes you did say it, you wanted to do it at the home in Texas, well if that is what you want then by all means use the home. We will be back in time for it, of course but you need to have family there Maurice, private includes my brothers ok” rolling my eyes “sure, but Robyn and I don’t want anything to eat. Just sit down here for me. Dad I know, I get what you mean but I don’t want them there, but I don’t have a say in that, just sort me out with the home. Sort the ball room out for me. And tell mom to use her useful skills for a party. Also, can you tell Ally, email John back tell him I don’t need his Nike store in my hotel but he can use my hotel for the meeting, also tell Ally I approve of the time off, and one more thing. I am happy with what you sent. I need to go now, thank you” my dad went out of his way to do this for me “noted, see you soon son” disconnecting the call “sorting things out” I said to Robyn “I can tell, what do you want? I literally came down to feed you” licking my top lip “and I appreciate it, uhm I think your mom wants to speak to you” I don’t know what else to say “I was thinking why everyone was sat around the table, is this like a pre-wedding meeting” Robyn said, rubbing my face not really wanting this to happen but it is out of my hands “Robyn, there is something I really need to tell you, it’s something that has always been a burden to me but I thought things would have been different for us” Robyn’ face look very nervous now, she knows it’s serious.
Terry has her pictures ready “am I in trouble? Mom you did this to me when you assumed I was whoring myself, when I was not doing anything” Leon snorted laughing “you remember when your mom placed the pregnancy test on the table and it was Tiffany’ oh my god, your mom was so angry. Chile. She ain’t shit, like she got us all in trouble and you got the blame for it. Terry was like Robyn you need to be a surgeon, you can’t be pregnant” Leon laughed “you kids are terrible but please, it’s serious now” squinting my eyes at Robyn “you whore yourself out?” I said, Robyn scoffed “be quiet I didn’t, it was Tiffany. I was choosy who I did that with” we are going off course now “sure” I mumbled “your mom wants to speak to you” I said to her “and I am listening Maurice” Robyn retorted back to me “thank you Maurice, Robyn what has happened with Thomas is not your fault and never has been. You have been dragged into the mess and it’s my fault I would say, I wanted you to have the best. I wanted you to have the love and Robbie, you did. You are so loved but the things that happened with Thomas, it’s not your fault at all” Terry looked down at the table and took in a deep breath “mom, are you crying? It’s ok, I don’t blame you either. He is lost in his own mind” Robyn said “just listen to me Robyn, just please don’t speak for me. I just want you to listen. I want you to know that none of this was your fault, everything that happened was our fault, ok?” Terry’ voice broke, I don’t know how I would have reacted if my dad said he wasn’t my dad, this is going to break hearts, this broke my heart to hear but it depends which side of the story she starts with “when I gave birth to you, it was the best moment of my life Robyn. But then I also lost a piece of me when I gave birth to you, I lost my womb so that is why I could never have another child, this is why I never ever gave you another sibling like you asked, it was the most traumatic thing to happen to me but Thomas was there for us, and I had you at the end of it. Best moment of my life baby is you. I am not regretful of what happened to me, I got you. You have been the best daughter to me but that did strain Thomas and I, now what I am going to tell you Robyn. It’s hard, I have kept this away because it’s something we agreed on, we moved on and as a family that was it, but he let me down. He let us down and I have no choice because I don’t want you to blame yourself because it is not your fault, it had never been your fault in this” I don’t want to look at Robyn but I just looked to the side of me at Leon, he put his head down “mom you’re literally scaring me, what is it? I’m adopted?” She laughed nervously “I mean that is bullshit, I look like you” Robyn said.
I think Terry is finding it hard to say it “before Thomas Robyn, I was with another man. I met him and we fell quick, we was inseparable” every time Terry talks about him, she smiles and I feel for her because she lost out because of dumb shit “for those four months, and I counted the months, the weeks, the days with him, the hour until I saw him because we was close but we argued. That one night, and I say it to you Robyn, do not argue with the man you love and you’re always getting annoyed with me but we argued Robyn, I went to sleep angry. Woke up to find out he died in a shooting” Terry sighed out “Cali gangs, he wanted to make easy money. And erm” my eyes slowly diverted to Robyn “no” Robyn said as her voice broke “I never got to tell him I was pregnant, with you. I never told him but I kept you” Robyn shook her head “no, mom. Don’t say that” Robyn shakily placed her hand over her mouth “Robbie I am sorry” Robyn pushed her chair back, she looked at me “no” she heaved out “Robyn” getting up from the chair “no!” she shouted “you all knew, you all knew! How could you” she got up from the chair walking off, she held the wall. Utter silence in the room and then her cry left her lips, before Robyn fell to the ground I wrapped my arms around her and held her against me as she cried out, she is in pain and it’s hurting my heart too.

Tu M’appartiens - Chapter 2
June 30, 2018
"Dubai, Ibiza, Ibiza, Dubai, which one to pick, which one?" Nicole baffled at herself, unable to pick a destination for Tessa's surprise party. Both seemed amazing, Ibiza for it's endless parties, and Dubai for its luxurious lifestyle. She pouted ridiculously at the images on her phone screen, still undecided. "What a fucking deal!" Nicole mumbled. As her fingers hastily typed in the google search bar dubai armani hotel, one of Dubai's most luxurious hotels. The prices for a simple bedroom were exorbitant but Tessa was worth it, Nicole believed her friend deserved to have the night of her life. She kept focussing about what would make this birthday party the one of a kind ideal, when her brain sent her signals in the form of maybe the idea of the century. Her mouth twisted into a sardonic vicious smile as she typed the letters Mats Hummels in the Instagram search bar. Nicole was conscious how risky this move was but decided to ignore it.
For months Tessa has been cursing Mats Hummels in every of the most angry ways, she just hated him. But Nicole was not that easily dumped by her friend, she found her criticism fishy. Tessa would talk about Mats several times in a twenty four hour day, judging his fashion taste which she found ridiculous, how he lacked of charm and mostly out of all how arrogant he sounded. Based on all this details, Nicole easily assembled the fragments of Tessa's so called hate into a puzzle. It was clear that this was nothing else other than a passionate attraction to the Bayern Munich's star player.
Every curse escaping Tessa's mouth sounded like a sweet melody to Nicole's ears. She could feel the exuberant thrill expressing off Tessa's body, her eyes were expressing delight whenever she pronounced his name. Nicole has visioned them already having some lustful passionate sex, fucking like animals in every room of the house, Mats making Tessa screaming out his name. This idea had her turned on in a certain way. Despite of the fact of being straight, having sex with women in a moment of pure ardent excitement was her forbidden pleasure. And the opportunity of having these two fucking around was right in her hand.
Nicole looked out for Mats on Instagram. These two having been friends for about three years. He has been the first footballer to follow her and started liking her pictures. At first they had more of an Instagram relation like, but later it evolved to real friendship. Although Nicole was a Dortmund's fan, she went several times at Bayern's game only to support Mats in the most friendly manner, making Tessa's irritability rise more. Nicole related to Mats how her best friend was such a hater on him, which earned several laughs from the Bayern's star. He couldn't get mad at such a gorgeous girl.
Nicole liked his two new posts and right after she typed what she had to say to him.

A grin of satisfaction appeared on Nicole's lips. She felt she accomplished a sort of great achievement by reuniting Tessa and Mats for her private birthday party. Dubai was the perfect choice for such dirty celebrations. Of course the birthday preparations had to be kept secret, and Nicole was the best at this game.
"Okay, now let me tell Tessa to get ready because we are leaving for Dubai!" Spoke to herself while she typed a message on her phone screen.

New Night Vision for LET in Dubai has been published at http://www.theleader.info/2019/04/30/new-night-vision-for-let-in-dubai/
New Post has been published on http://www.theleader.info/2019/04/30/new-night-vision-for-let-in-dubai/
New Night Vision for LET in Dubai
DUBAI – April 30, 2019: A star-studded cast are aiming for the new Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic title. We hear from the players who are welcoming a new floodlight dawn for the Ladies European Tour event. Lights, camera… action! The Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic gets under way tomorrow over the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club, which will host the world’s first professional day-night golf tournament. The field of 56 professionals had the chance to practise under the lights on Monday and are ready to make history in the 54-hole tournament.  Each of the professionals will play at least nine holes of one of their opening two rounds under Faldo’s powerful new eco-friendly LED floodlights. It will be  fascinating innovation within the battle at Emirates Golf Club in what is an exciting new chapter for Dubai golf and the Ladies European Tour (LET). Cheyenne Woods, who has returned to Dubai to compete for her second LET title, said: “It will be a very new challenge but I’m excited. I think it’s a great event for golf. I think these formats keep the fans interested and it’s good for us too, just having a different experience playing. “I feel like I’m playing really well, just putting the pieces together. I feel like mentally, physically, I just feel like I’m in a really good place to play some really great golf so the more I play the closer I think I’ll get to where I want to be.” Meghan MacLaren, who is looking for her third LET title, has welcomed the change of tack. She said: “Any time that golf tries to innovate it creates a bit of a buzz, which I think is exactly what the game needs. Hopefully the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic means a few more people will be paying attention just to see something different happening. The playing level is and always will be there, so it’s about forcing people to sit up and take notice. “The idea of playing under floodlights is pretty cool. I’ve always enjoyed going to watch evening football matches so hopefully golf will be the same.” For Amy Boulden, who has her heart set on winning a first LET title in the vibrant metropolis, winning against the backdrop of the glittering Dubai Marina would be extra special. She said: “It’s really exciting. I’ve played night golf before, in Dubai and in Abu Dhabi, but not in a tournament. I think we’ll all have fun playing under the lights and I think Dubai is the perfect place to do it. It’s going to be a great test and I think everybody will have great fun. “When I come to Dubai, it feels like home to me. The greens are the best we play on, in Dubai, so it’s always nice to come to play on perfectly conditioned greens.” Camilla Lennarth, who will be looking for her second win and her first in five years, added: “I’m excited too. I haven’t played that much night golf at all. It will be a first for me, but the lights are really bright, so I think it will be a fair test. I think it’s good to try new concepts and see what works and what captures a different crowd.” Fan engagement is exactly what the LET and all about and rising star Noemi Jimenez Martin commented: “I’m really excited and can’t wait because it’s going to be an interesting tournament. We are going to make history so it’s going to be really exciting. I think a lot of people will watch this event because it’s new and it’s going to create a different buzz. It’s definitely helping women’s golf because more people will get to see the  game in a fun environment.” [caption id="attachment_30597" align="aligncenter" width="2618"] Amy Boulden during a practice round. Ladies European Tour 2019. Omega Dubai Ladies Classic, Emirates Golf Club, Faldo Course, Dubai, UAE. 1-3 May 2019. Amy Boulden during a practice round. Credit: Tristan Jones[/caption] Another young Spanish talent, Silvia Bañon added: “It’s the first time playing under lights so it’s an honour to be here. It’s an incredible environment and we are really happy and excited to play. It’s my first time in Dubai and it’s really different. I was saying to Noemi, I’ve only seen these buildings in pictures.” The Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic will be played from Wednesday to Friday and the move of the LET’s revered stop in the emirate from December to May will showcase Dubai’s extended golf season. At the same time, it will profile the stunning venue which will be a fitting destination to showcase the incredible golfers who play on the LET and who have come to Dubai from all around the world.

Apology – September 2 A Choices Blood Bound based fan fic Adrian X Paris (MC) All characters are Pixelberry Studios Adrian stared at the letter of resignation in his hands his breath catching at the pain he was feeling. He knew it was coming of course. He had made his decision months ago and this was just the fruition of that decision. And still his heart clenched as his eyes scanned the letter, so polite, so professional, so…. impersonal. Dear Mr. Raines,
Thank you for the opportunities you have given me at Raines Corporation.
This is my notice of resignation. My last day will be September 16. I will be available for consultation for my replacement should it be necessary. Sincerely,
Paris Hamilton “No.” He reflexively crumpled the paper. Opening his portable computer he looked at the trail of what he’d done. The list of men he’d arranged for her to meet from billionaire business associates in Napa to Cordonian nobles, a movie star in LA, a Turkish prince in Dubai, a music video producer in Austin, a college professor in Boston, a comic book artist in London. He’d sent her across the country and around the world on business exposing her to eligible men, away from him and the local clans. Away from him and the desire that still seared his resolve and woke him aching for her. His hands shook as he pulled up the email with her letter. He knew he should simply thank her for her service and wish her well in her new endeavors. Dear Ms Hamilton Thank you…                        He deleted it. Dear………….                        He deleted it. Paris,
We ……………             He deleted it. Paris,  I’m sending you plane tickets. Please come speak with me.                                                     Adrain 24 hours later Paris watched the evening traffic as the cab took her toward the Raines Corporate HQ. She took a deep breath counting to ten and exhaling slowly. Eighteen months. He hadn’t answered any personal calls or email or letters. Not until out of sheer anger and frustration she decided to resign. And out of sheer pride she hadn’t involved Lilly or Jax or Kamilla. She watched the people hurrying home, lovers holding hands, tourists taking pictures oblivious to the secret world of the vampire clans. The cab stopped in front of the Raines building and she got out thanking the driver as she paid. Looking up at the skyscraper and remembering the first time she had come in for her job interview a life time ago. The first time she met Adrain. She keyed her way up to the floor where Adrian’s office was and the receptionist a striking red head directed her to the roof top café. She saw him as she exited the elevator. He immediately rose from his seat and turned to her. His eyes caressing her as she walked toward him. She reflexively bit her lower lip as all too familiar desire washed over her. The blush heated her cheeks as he pulled a chair out for her. “Thank you for coming, Paris.” He spoke low and she looked up at the catch she heard in his voice. “You’re the boss.” She picked up the menu to excuse avoiding his eyes. He started to reach out then dropped his hand and took the seat across from her. “Paris… I.. I’m sorry.” She looked in his eyes and could see his anxiety. Her heart leapt at the same time she clenched her jaw as her emotions collided in conflict. Her voice was lost in the war. Just as a waiter walked up and asked for their order. Leaping at the intervention she ordered the Halibut and asparagus with a glass of Chardonnay. Adrian ordered a rare steak and glass of Cabernet. Finally the waiter left. She sipped the glass of water, then lifted her eyes to his. “Why am I here, Adrian? I know you got my letter of resignation. I’ve got my files in order and there shouldn’t be any problems with handing over the PR work in Cordonia. The site is selected and the ground breaking for the new plant is all on schedule.” Adrain drank in the vision of the woman before him like a man dying of thirst. He could smell her anger and her desire, hear her heart beat and all the pain in her voice. He hurt with his need for her. “Paris,” her name fell from his mouth like a silken caress. “I asked you to come because I …” he cut off and looked out at the city below filled with a million lights and lives. He shook his head. “I’m sorry.” “You’re a bastard, Adrain Raines. You know that? You won’t take my calls. You don’t answer my emails. You don’t even answer my letters. For 18 months you ship me all over the world and the country and you don’t say boo to me. And I’ve had it. I really have. I…” She cuts off as the waiter brings their wine. Adrain looks at her and it reminds her of when she saw him dragged to the Baron’s dungeon. There’s a resignation in his eyes she hoped never to see again in the man she loves, loved, loves. As the waiter leaves she looks up at the night sky and mutters, “Damn it.” She dashes at her eyes as tears well. “What the fuck am I here for, Adrain?” His eyes are flickering in the candle light she catches the glimpse of red and knows he is also struggling with control. His voice is low and carries a broken note as he murmurs softly, “You are here because I am too weak to let you go.” She glares at him incredulously, “What?” She shakes her head and he watches the light dance across her hair and his fingers ache to feel the silk as he runs his hands through it. “Adrain I never asked you to let me go. I never… “ A tear slips down her cheek. “Damnit!” He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. “I know.” He sighs. “Listen to me Paris… Please. I know you are angry. And you have every right to be. I thought it would be … better, easier. I thought you would find someone else. I wanted you to find someone else.” Her hand slaps him before she can even think with a loud crack. Lighting fast Adrain lifts her in his arms and carries her out of the restaurant into his private elevator. She’d almost forgotten how superhumanly fast and strong a vampire could be. His eyes are blood red and his mouth is on hers in a searing kiss as the elevator goes up and he holds her tight against his chest. When the kiss breaks she gasps against his mouth. “I’m still angry at you.” “I know.” He nuzzles her neck and she can feel his descended fangs drag against the vein before he closes his eyes and sets her down gently. “I’m trying, Paris.” He steps back away from her and holds his hand out. “I need to explain.” He takes her hand and she can feel him trembling as the elevator doors open into the anteroom of his penthouse. He leads her to the couch and sits down next to her. “Please just listen and let me explain.” He takes a shuddering breath before starting. “You should know, you must know that I love you.” He looks in her eyes his are red with passion. “You are so perfect. So courageous, intelligent, compassionate, and loving. And so terribly, frightfully young.” She starts to protest and he gently places a finger on her lips. “You are. Don’t be upset. This is a time for truth, Paris.” She nips his finger gently. And he looks in her eyes. “Long ago I gave up hope of ever falling in love again. And then you came in like the sunshine to my dark world and awoke my old heart. And I wanted you, want you to the point of a never-ending ache in my heart for your voice and your touch. I want to rise to your voice and fall asleep to your heartbeat for all my days and nights. That is my truth. And though I can give you a thousand years of wealth and love I cannot give you children of your body. One of the greatest joys of my days was the day I held my new born son. The too brief days I spent as a father.” Adrain closes his eyes and takes a shuddering breath. “I do love you with all that I am Paris. And because I love you. Because of what I am. Because of what I know. I wanted to let you go. Let you find a man who could give you children and love; a life I can never give you. A life you deserve.”

Professional women today are as unhappy as their suburban housewife grandmothers. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“The Ambition Collision,” by Lisa Miller is one of the more read articles on the New York Magazine website. It compares the malaise that professional women feel today with the malaise of the suburban housewife Betty Freidan characterizes in The Feminine Mystique.
What is this midlife crisis among the 30-year-olds I know?  Millennial women — at least those who reside in professional bubbles — seem to have it all. They are better educated, more prosperous, less encumbered by cultural expectations than any previous generation of women. They delay marriage (if they marry at all) and children (if they choose to conceive). They can own or rent. They can save or spend. These women have been on familiar terms with their ambitions all their lives — raised by careful parents to aim high (millennial women are likelier than their male peers to have professional jobs, to be managers, and to work in finance), and tutored by their cultural icons to perform their empowerment, and never submit. You know, “Bow down, bitches,” as they say.
So why are the well-employed, ambitious 30-year-olds of my acquaintance feeling so adrift, as discontented as the balding midlife sad sacks whose cliché dissatisfactions made Updike rich? The women complain of the enervating psychic effects of the professional treadmill as white-collar piecework and describe their dread as they contemplate bleak futures — decade after decade, they imagine, unfulfilled. After a lifetime of saying ‘yes’ to their professional hunger — these are the opportunity-seizers, the list-makers, the ascendant females, weaned on Lean In — they’ve lost it, like a child losing grasp of a helium balloon. Grief-stricken, they are baffled too, for they have always been propelled by their drive. They were the ones who were supposed to run stuff — who as girls imagined themselves leaving the airport in stylish trench coats, hailing a taxi with one hand while holding their cell in the other.
Who ever said that work should be the be-all?
Now, “there’s no vision,” one woman said to me. “Nothing solid,” said another. Limp, desperate, they fantasize about quitting their good jobs and moving home to Michigan. They murmur about purpose, about the concrete satisfactions of baking a loaf of bread or watching a garden grow. One young woman I know dreams about leaving her consulting job, which takes her to Dubai and Prague, to move back home and raise a bunch of kids. Another, an accountant with corner-office aspirations, has decided to “phone it in” for a few years while she figures out what she wants to do. Mostly, though, these women don’t bail out. They are too responsible, and too devoted to their wavering dreams. They stay put, diligently working, ordering Seamless and waiting for something — anything — to reignite them, to convince them that their wanting hasn’t abandoned them for good. Any goal would do, one woman told me: a child, a dog — “even a refrigerator.” People have been motivated by less.
Get a grip, I want to tell them, for I am old enough to be, if not their mother then their world-weary aunt. Who ever said that work should be the be-all? You work for money. The money you earn pays the rent. You are the very, very lucky few, in possession of the jobs and apartments that every tier-one college student wants. But the more I listen, the more I think I hear in these young women’s voices the echo of something familiar — the complaints of a long-ago generation but in reverse. The female dissatisfaction chronicled by Betty Friedan in The Feminine Mystique was prompted by a widespread awakening to the bullshit promises of domestic happiness, manufactured by culture to make female containment look good. Now another bullshit promise has taken its place, and another generation is waking up.
Here’s some thoughtful commentary from an MIT student:
Last night, I was reading some articles from “The Cut”, a section of New York Magazine. I came across this one, titled “The Ambition Collision” by Lisa Miller. It's one of The Cut's most read articles, and describes how a generation of professional millennial women face a strange, unexplainable burnout. They seem to lose their motivation and desire after a few years in the workforce, or at once on entering it. ...What intrigued me about the article is what the author said after describing this problem, which is that, while those external struggles exist, there’s still a deeply personal perspective problem that everyone has. I’ll let the article explain itself here:
“The lesson of The Feminine Mystique was not that every woman should quit the ‘burbs and go to work, but that no woman should be expected to find all her happiness in one place — in kitchen appliances, for example. And the lesson for my discontented friends is not that they should ditch their professional responsibilities but that they should stop looking to work, as their mothers looked to husbands, as the answer to the big questions they have about their lives. “I think possibly work has replaced ‘and they got married and lived happily ever after,’ and that is a false promise,” says Ellen Galinsky, co-founder of the Families and Work Institute. “Everyone needs to have more than one thing in their life. We find people who are dual-centric to be most satisfied. If people put an equivalent stress on their life outside of their job they get further ahead and are more satisfied at their job.””
Though this insight was shared through the lens of writing about women’s issues, I think it’s a useful thing to think about for everyone. After graduating high school and moving into college, I graduated in a lot of other ways too. Some were expected--I reached new levels of independence and capability. Some were unexpected, like new reaching new levels of confidence, or weird, like a new level of defining myself and understanding the depth of my identity. And somehow, I seemed to reach a new level of sadness or discomfort too. Adult feelings somehow are more complicated than kid feelings, and I still haven’t figured out why. It’s not that I feel more or less happy than when I was child (although probably it’s a little bit less, lol) but it’s that, as a child you at least always know why you’re unhappy--denial of ice cream, the onset of sleepiness, a little brother that destroys your things. Unhappiness is for the most part temporary and usually defined by a single moment.
Adult unhappiness has seemed to involve many more themes, where the same feelings always worm their way into whatever sadness I’m feeling that day, even if they have nothing to do with why I’m sad in that moment. It feels a little more chronic. Maybe it’s because of passage of time, and accumulating many more things to be unhappy about over the years. Sometimes sadness is unexplainable, like those women in The Cut article, just a strange listlessness that I can never articulate very well.
Sometimes coming to MIT feels a little bit like hitting a ceiling too. At least in my case, MIT was a goal I worked on for a full 7 years (I first started reading the blogs in middle school, lol). A sentence from this article stands out to me: “It’s as if the women have cleared spaces in their lives for meteoric careers, and then those careers have been less gratifying, or harder won, or more shrunken than they’d imagined.”
MIT was certainly hard won. And I had known, at least superficially, that what I was doing was kind of insane--I worked really hard to get into a place where I would have to work even harder. I think what I hadn’t prepared for was just how dissatisfying it can be to have hard work feel fully wasted. Freshmen year there was a lot of studying for days to barely pass, rather than studying for days to at least get a decent grade. But now that’s mostly over--my classes are in the field I most enjoy, they’re interesting, and though they’ve certainly required hard work, my academic life is a little more balanced. So why does that feeling of burnout, dissatisfaction, listlessness still hit? (it’s always in November or February....)
Maybe it's because as a student, life is still pretty centered around work. But things outside of work aren't always great either...
As Pascal said, all people complain, even those at the top of society. The world is fallen, and so it doesn’t live up to our desires that it not be fallen. And nothing in the world can make that fallenness go away. We’ll eventually all feel this if we are sensitive and thoughtful and realistic, if we don’t just distract ourselves from it. Not even a great university or great career or great apartment can make us deeply happy.

Current Date: 2017-12-08
Tumblr media
When the air gets colder, it’s the reminder that it’s that time of the year. Not that you have anything against the end of October. Or when the autumnal leaves grew crisp toward the looming of December. Whereas you lived for Halloween, it was Christmastime which made you unsure of you and who you were to everyone around you. Luckily for you, you had a whole team to support you on your healing journey, and endless amounts of visits to shrinks and therapy sessions to get over the whole ‘abducted as a child and experimented on by HYDRA’ thing.
Wanda Maximoff was a great help through it all.
Apart from her being tortured too, lost her brother, and chose to use her almighty gifts for the good of the world, you admired your fellow Avenger for a little more. It didn’t kill you to have a crush on your best friend; she was gorgeous, fierce, deadly. Perhaps it would one day – she had her eyes on someone else, you were sure.
But Christmas…
You hardly noticed it was December until you caught Clint Barton re-enacting that scene in Love Actually where Hugh Grant dances all over the place, except he was doing it to that catchy Mariah Carey song. After that, it was a slippery slope, and everyone got a little festive. Scott Lang wired up a massive set of lights (with a little help from Tony Stark), and the whole exterior of the facility practically glowed at night. Thor sent over a customary bell from Asgard. T’Challa sent over a wreath, made of wood so fragrant and flowers so beautiful you almost sat by the door all day to enjoy it.
When the air gets colder, you rescind into your collection of sweaters, opting to take your meals in your bedroom, train away from the team when it’s required. Steve Rogers understands, to a point, but really, he was just the lucky version of the scenario you went through. He had one magical ka-blam! and became Captain America. You had more poison in your biology than a pesticide plant, and yet, instead of dying, you could fly, and walk the walls like a bug. They called you The Beetle, but you rarely went out on missions these days.
And naturally, it made you climb back into your proverbial shell. Clint understands, and turns down the music. Scott made sure the lights didn’t flash so much around where your room was. Nobody rang the bell around you (besides, it was deafening), nobody made a big show and dance about how it was Christmas.
It was nice. Safe.
---
Your parents had taken their eyes off you for only five minutes. Your mother to attend to the carollers by the front door, your father to check the boiler in the basement. It was in this time that you had gone to the back porch to see the snowfall when you had been taken.
You were four years old.
All because your mother was an ex-military contractor who had made enemies in all the wrong places. All because your father carried a gene in your body that for centuries and centuries meant you were different to other people. All because HYDRA were bastards, you spent Christmas that year, and for the next ten years, locked away in a hole beneath the earth with scientists prodding you into submission.
When you had been rescued from them, by none other than the Winder Soldier himself, you had been but a stray dog, an echo of a human being. Most fourteen-year-old girls follow boy bands on Twitter, and have shitty drug store makeup and families who love them dearly. Bucky Barnes went the extra mile, and after rescuing your ratty ass from those bastards, had the Avengers kill them all. Tony Stark had you put in a facility to de-brainwash you. Your parents were worried, shaken, having spent the last decade thinking their daughter dead, when instead, she was made into a monster because of their own sins.
You became an Avenger at eighteen to practically monitor you. You didn’t mind. It was better than life before, and anything more than that was normal enough for you.
Outside your bedroom, you can see the snow. It’s falling, steadily, flakes one at a time from the sky like the movies show it to be. You sit with your knees close to your chest, back against the side of the bed. Unmoving. Silent. When it gets colder, you remember flashes of that night – recalling the darkness you had felt, the screams you had let out, heard to nobody. You were only a child, a baby! You shake your head to rid the images, and wrap your arms closer around your body.
You don’t hear the bedroom door open until you see the familiar face of Wanda take a seat beside you on the floor. She’s wearing grey skinny jeans, and a massively oversized red sweater that you suspect she stole from one of the other heroes. Apart from her being completely perfect, she’s respectful of your space, and sits beside you for nearly ten minutes without talking.
“Do you miss the snow?” She asks you.
You look to her, “What do you mean?” From the corner of your eye, you can still see it falling from the sky, covering the manicured lawns of Stark’s property. “It’s right there.”
Wanda shakes her head. “I have never seen you touch it, though,” she comments, her accent prominent in the words she had selected to speak, “You watch it with such wonder, I could not help but wonder myself if you had never touched it.”
She’s very right. You don’t reply verbally; instead, you move to the full-length ceiling to floor window, and place your palm across where a drift is growing at the bottom of the pane. “Look, I’m touching it,” you say to her, an edge to your voice. “I don’t miss it at all.”
Wanda nods, and does not press the topic. You both sit there in silky silence, watching it fall away from the hustle of the team, the requirements of the world until you’re interrupted by Vision, who wears an apron that says We Whisk You a Merry Christmas! in a silly curly font. He smiles. “I made rumballs!”
---
While everyone had a manila folder stuffed with information, you are left at the breakfast bar, slowly eating the dregs of the cereal box, crunching on them without milk. You’d put milk in your breakfast, but you do not wish to hear a whisper of what is going on.
When they come out of the briefing room, you’re sitting upon the chandelier, legs wrapped around it as you devour a book, some classic that Dr Banner recommended. Nobody notices you until the light turns on, and your shadow is cast. Nobody comments though, until you fly down, and grab yourself a snack from the communal fridge.
“So, Peter Pan,” Tony comments, passing you the packet of blueberries you’d been searching for, “It’s going to be just you and Maximoff here for a couple of days. You think you’ll be okay?”
You raise a brow, grabbing a handful of berries. “Depends on your definition of okay.”
He raises a brow, “Well, to most people it means,” he flicks his holo-watch on, and brings up the Merriam-Webster, and recites, “Agreeing to, satisfactory but not especially good.” He looks to you, minimising the web page, and adds, “Is that good enough for you, Beetle-bug?”
“When will you be back?” You ask with a mouthful.
Tony goes to answer, but as he walks past, Steve says, “Best case scenario, next Wednesday. Worst, the Sunday after that.”
You nod. That was yesterday, and now it’s exactly two weeks to Christmas and you are practically in Home Alone with Wanda, except, while everyone is away in Dubai, there are no house-invaders, and you both are flicking between reruns of Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Freaks and Geeks, seated close to one another on the couch beneath a blanket to save on the thermostat.
It’s snowing outside, the white blanket thicker than the last time you can remember sitting and watching it come down with Wanda. Her head is pressed against your shoulder. On screen, Salem is complaining about something. You tune it out, your hand brushing against hers beneath the blanket, and like a damn teenager, you feel a heat creep up your neck.
At the touch, a jolt of red energy comes from her fingers. But instead of feeling electricity like all the other jolts you have received in your life, you feel a warmth, a glow spreading from your phalanges up your arms until it settles in your chest.
“Oh,” Wanda breathes, looking up.
You do too, and see it. While you felt the power from her touch, there seemed to have been a reaction, and now, above you where you sit upon the communal couch in the Avengers facility living room, it is snowing. Indoors.
“Sorry – I,” she herself has a roaring blush.
She goes to move her hands, to cancel out what neuroelectric spell she had just cast, but yours move quicker, and catch her fingers in your own. “It’s okay,” you whisper, your voice near next to silent. On screen, there’s some sort of commotion, but it is nothing compared to the commotion going on in your rib cage, where your heart beats a mile a minute, the commotion in your head, where your mind is urging you to lean closer, to move toward her. Your lips are almost upon hers, and her scent – the scent of strawberries and peppermint – is overpowering. “Kiss me.”
She does.
---
They’re back when Steve had said they would be back, but after a week of recuperation and recovery from it all, they’re back at it again. Except, Scott has taken himself down to spend the holidays with his family, bringing plenty of presents for Cassie. Clint has done the same thing, taking enough gifts and time off after Christmas to enjoy the holidays with his family. Your parents can’t come up, instead spending it visiting your uncle in England and his children.
It’s okay. If they were around, you’d have to put a label on what you and Wanda are.
And while they’re all bustling around in the main living area, you’re chilling upon the ceiling, your bare feet attached to the plaster. It’s not like you’re locked away in your bedroom, but still, you don’t think that you’re magically cured from your abusive childhood. A kiss does not cure anxiety, does not magically make you into a new woman.
Wanda is hovering beside you. While you’ve got weird bug feet that stick to the ceiling, keeping yourself upside down, she’s telekinetic, and levitating herself, and the both of you are chilling away from the commotion of Christmas carols and last-minute decorating panic, you’ve got a pair of earbuds between you, and listening to songs from her playlist.
You’ve been unnoticed up here on the ceiling. Below, life goes on as always in the Avengers facility. Silently, you look to Wanda as you hear the lyrics.
“Tell the neighbours I'm not sorry, if I'm breaking walls down,” the song goes, her lips mouthing along with the lyrics as to keep your location a secret, “Building your girls second story - Ripping all your floors out.”
Down below, there’s a misunderstanding going on. You have not been focusing on it, but more in the way that Wanda’s fingers move to place strands of hair behind her ears, the way she looks upside down, lips soft, parted, eyes catlike, wide with wonder.
“Saw your face, heard your name, gotta get with you,” you mouth to her, watching how she smiles, how she sees every detail of you like you see everything of her, “Girls like girls like boys do; nothing new.”
“Hey, how long have you two been up there?” Sam Wilson crosses his arms, gazing up at you two. Bucky Barnes is beside him, and gives you both a little smirk, and goes on with his business. “What’re you doing, spying?”
You take your earbud out, and releasing the muscles that hold your body, you somersault from the vaulted ceiling, and land before him. As impressive as that manoeuvre is, you’re not as tall as The Falcon, and he looks down to you like you’re just a child having been caught doing something naughty.
“Hmm?” He questions.
You shrug. “Just chilling out with my girlfriend, birdman,” you tell him, a burst of bravado filling you up as if there was a confidence demon possessing you instead of your introvert self. At this, you excuse yourself, and walk toward the pantry. “Wanda, want popcorn?”
She nods, and waves to Sam Wilson from where she’s still floating near the ceiling.
As you go to make popcorn, he shakes his head. “Kids these days…”
---
On Christmas Day, you wake to see Wanda knocking on the frame of your doorway. Her pyjamas are red, with designs of bunnies. Her hair is akin to a bird’s nest, eyes bleary from sleep, and still, she’s got the biggest smile, and taking your hand, drags you into the living room, where the rest of the team are seated around the Christmas tree.
They’re all holding presents addressed to them, and as you take a seat, you’re handed one from Bruce Banner. It’s wrapped in light pink paper with a design of stars, your name written in a half-cursive, half printed handwriting.
“Everyone’s here?” Bucky asks, and without hearing any negative replies, rips into his present. It’s a sweatband, and armband set, orange. “What is this?”
Tony beams. “You missed the eighties, so, I’m bringing the eighties to you.”
In your lap, your present waits, unopened. Sam opens his to find a book, A Complete Guide to Bird Watching in North America (“Aw yis,” he says); Steve finds he has a pair of socks from Natasha, with an American flag on the front, and a pride flag on the back (“Amerigay,” Nat explains. Steve puts them on, looking at Bucky), and Vision finds he got a can opener from Clint, with a note that says, sorry for breaking your last can opener.
Bruce Banner pulls out a knitted sweater from his package, “Aren’t you going to open yours?” He asks you.
Slowly, you tear open the sides of your gift, and unhooking the tape carefully to save the paper, you unwrap it. It’s not until it’s in your lap that you realise it’s the red jumper that Wanda wore that time when you sat watching the snow fall in your bedroom.
“Thank you,” you whisper.
“Isn’t that my sweater –,” Tony goes to ask.
Wanda shakes her head. “No, it’s ________’s now.” You laugh at that, and squeeze her hand.
Wanda grins, and moving closer, forgoes your hand-holding and goes for a kiss. When her lips touch yours, you feel that jolt once again, and once again, there is no electricity, and from up above, it’s snowing faux snow. “Thank you for the best first Christmas ever,” you tell her, and move in once more.

Virtual reality (VR) is a software-based artificial world that is presented to the user in such a way that the user believes and embraces it as a real environment. Artificially, virtual worlds produce sensory sensations, such as sight, touch, hearing, and smell. Head Mounted Display (HMD) is also called virtual reality. It can be enough to hold Google Cardboard up to position the monitor of your smart phone in front of your face to get you half immersed in a virtual world. The hardware's aim is to build a virtual world without the limitations that are typically associated with TV or computer screens. So the screen attached to your face follows you, whichever way you look. VR headsets either use two feeds sent to a single monitor or two LCD displays, one per eye. Lenses are often positioned between the eyes and the pixels, which is why goggles are also called gadgets.
Advantages of VR
·         In the area of education, virtual reality makes education convenient and easy.
·         Users of virtual reality will use an artificial environment to experiment with
Disadvantages of VR
·         VR is becoming much more popular, but programmers are still stuck with how to interact with virtual worlds.
·         Escapism is popular among those that use VR environments and individuals often reside in the virtual world rather than interacting with the actual one.
VR and 360 content will keep growing, there is no doubt, and brands not adopting it will soon risk being left behind. But what advantages does VR essentially offer to businesses? Why is it that brands should invest in VR?
1.       Increase recognition of brand
For brands to break through the contact clutter, VR is a perfect way for them. So it can be turned into a virtual brand experience if your brand has a narrative, which will have more effect than brand communication alone. Your clients are going to be completely absorbed and engaged. You can engage your audience emotionally through VR, and foster brand recall.
2.       Entrench connections with customers
Virtual reality is a great storytelling tool that allows the brand to be perceived and articulated in an entirely new way. If you are looking for a way to emphasise the principles and vision of your company with your clients, VR is the ideal solution. Through a one-of-a-kind experience that is unforgettable, VR helps create deeper levels of human interaction, compassion and cultural empathy.
3.       Efficiently collecting data
Let's say your business wants to enhance the convenience of shopping in a shop and test customer tastes. VR in-store experience can be precisely designed to decide the most successful product arrangement to get shoppers to buy your items and give you unique customer behaviour information. Gyroscopic sensor information from HMD can also be used to recreate "heat maps" of wherever a user looks while in VR. You are able to test how changes in the actual store can impact your sales by various setups.
4.       Bring prototyping to the next level
The decision-making process is essential in manufacturing, and Virtual Prototyping (VP) provides many benefits. It helps to test your ideas quickly and get customer input on a concept you haven't created yet.
In VR, prototyping allows designers to try more alternatives before turning to development. It also leads to higher quality, reduction in costs and improved customer satisfaction. What? How? While your 2D designs could look fantastic on paper, nothing compares to providing a virtual tour to customers. Only in VR, consumers can experience the finished product in a polished and interactive visual representation; see the actual scale and materials used.
The finest part? Every brand can make use of VR, but brands must be careful how they design their experience and interact with the customers in order to stand out from the mediocre content. At various sales process levels, businesses will benefit from VR: product visualisation, real-time experience, e-commerce journey or presentation of prototypes. Moreover, VR has the authority to revolutionise shopping behaviour.
If you want to learn how to do all this, you can always depend on best mobile app development to develop it for you. DxMinds is a Best Virtual Reality (VR) ApplicationDevelopment Company in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, that provides the best VR services and more interactive at an affordable rate, having experts in creating the unforgettable VR technology experience to increase your business graphics by night.

How to Stare Down the 4 Toughest Decisions You'll Face as an Entrepreneur http://ift.tt/2Gx2wbs
There is no straight path to entrepreneurial success. The journey is almost always full of ups and downs, in which you’ll be faced with decisions that test your emotional strength. Making the wrong choices can kill your company before it gets off the ground.
You will quickly discover your best friend isn’t the best business partner. Even though you started the company, you might not be the right person to lead it. Entrepreneurs face complex problems. Being aware of these beforehand can help prevent the loss of friendships and the implosion of a potentially great organization.

1. Who should be on the founding team?
With long nights of work, tough deadlines and limited resources, it can be easy for founding teams to get frustrated with each other. To prevent you and your cofounder from ending up in divorce court, you need to choose wisely and early on.
There is a scientific principle called the IKEA effect, which states that the more time and effort people invest into something, the greater their attachment to it. Be clear on your company’s vision and the role that each person will play. Deciding who will be the CEO later on is a formula for disaster.
Select a business partner based on complementary skills sets, experience and work habits. Test out your relationship by tackling small projects together and working your way up.
2. When you shouldn’t be the one leading.
Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley stepped down from his role as CEO when he realized he might not be the right person to take the company where it needed to go in its next stage. Then, he shifted his focus where it would have the most value and now serves as an Executive Chairman.
We all have a leadership capacity based on our experience and training. Different stages of company growth may require different leaders and skillsets. You may be the person to go to for ideation and product design, but not the person who will take the company through funding or IPO. With the responsibility of investor capital and employees, you need to be able to let go if necessary.

3. When it’s time to pivot.
Don’t be stubborn. You may have a brilliant idea but entered the market too early. Your idea may be terrible, but you think it is going to be the next big thing. As an entrepreneur, it’s important to question if the path you’re on is the right one or if you need to pivot. The responsibility of a successful business is providing value and making money, that may mean modifying or scrapping your original product altogether.
After assembling a strong founding team, the willingness to pivot might be the largest influence on company success. This is a big struggle for several reasons.
Unfortunately, many people suffer from what is called an illusion of superiority. It causes people to overestimate their abilities and their value. One research study on drivers asked participants how well they drove. The majority of people rated themselves as above average or exceptional, despite that the rating was based on their own standards. Furthermore, they thought others would rate them as excellent, solely because it is how they saw themselves. Changing your mind or admitting when you’re wrong becomes even more difficult because of confirmation bias. Instead of accepting that there could be a better alternative, some will search for anything that agrees with their own opinion.
Being unwilling to change is fatal to startups. You have to be open and willing to pivot when the time comes. This doesn’t mean switch business models every three weeks. It means take an objective, critical view that allows you see when it’s time to change.

4. When to quit.
Entrepreneurs often fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy. When people invest so much energy into something, they start to feel like it would be a waste not to take it the rest of the way.  Time is precious. Don’t waste it or your talent by captaining a sinking ship. Set a deadline -- a point in which you will judge whether a project has been successful and if it is worth pursuing. Otherwise, you’ll miss out on other opportunities to work on new and exciting projects that inspire you.
Building a company means making dozens of decisions every day. Many will be easy to decide, but there will be really hard decisions like these. The hardest ones will have the greatest effect on company success, so it is critical to be aware of them and choose wisely.
