The police was called to a suspected neonazi gathering in the district of Neuwied, Rhineland-Palatinate. The police forces found a number of people dressed in Nazi uniforms, showing Nazi flags. Both is unconstitutional and punishable in Germany. However, the alleged neonazi gathering turned out to be a shooting for a short documentary about the third reich. The film crew was instructed to take down a flag that could be seen from afar and to identify themselves clearly as what they were before they were allowed to carry on with their business.

Chambers’s Journal: A Few Weeks on the Continent, 1839
A beautiful green plain, fringed and intersected with trees, and bordering on the Rhine, conducts from Iriich to Neuwied. The hills at this part of the river recede to a greater distance than usual, and in the center of the extensive basin stands Neuwied, one of the most elegant groups of buildings on the Rhine. Neuwied consists of a number of tall white structures of dignified aspect, with acute sloping roofs, and a neat regularly built town stretching along the margin of the stream. The chief edifices were originally the seat of the prince of the independent territory of Wied, and now belong to the royal family of Prussia, who have engrossed the district into their overgrown kingdom. The town was built about a century ago under the auspices of the prince of Wied; it was established on the principle of giving a home to persons of all religions — Jew as well as Christian, Protestant as well as Roman Catholic — and hence became the resort of industrious and intelligent individuals from all parts of the continent. This character, under a new dynasty, still adhere to it; and here the persecuted for conscience sake will be sure to fine repose. Neuwied has for some years been celebrated for a large educational establishment belonging to the society of Moravians, who at present amount to four hundred and eighty individuals of both sexes. Besides the educational establishment, the brethren possess manufactories of stoves, tiles, soap, gloves, etc., and in the town there are manufactories of toys, hardware, leather, beer, and other articles — the whole place, in fact, is a hive of industry, and is thriving accordingly. Neuwied is one of those charming places where a citizen of the world, unhampered by ties, would choose to set up his staff of rest. The noble Rhine in front, with its flying bridge, and its constantly passing steamers — the secluded mountain walks in the neighborhood — and the clear sunny atmosphere overhead — appear things of which it would be impossible ever to tire. Those who delight in exploring antiquities would have an additional gratification; for at the distance of three miles on the river Wied, is the site of the Roman city of Victoria, destroyed by the Germans in the fourth century. The ruins or rubbish of this city, like those of Herculaneum, have lately been explored and sift, and the result of the labor has been the collection of a vast quantity of curiosities, comprising armor, weapons, coins, tools, pottery, and other articles, which are now placed in a museum in the palace, open to the free inspection of strangers. Immediately above Neuwied lies a beautiful woody island in the Rhine, and opposite it on the left bank is the small town of Weissenthurm.

Summer day in april on the Rhine...Neutor in Erpel/Unkel am Rhein. Erpel is a local community in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate and is a state-approved tourist resort. The village centre lies in the valley of the northern Middle Rhine on the edge of the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. In the east of the municipal area, the Erpeler Kirchspielwald extends as far as the Rhine Westerwald volcanic ridge.⠀ The origin of the place lies in the darkness and, according to historians, dates back more than 1500 years. In old documents the place Herpilla, later Erpilla, then Erpell is called. Herpilla is of Celtic origin and means "meadow-covered hill", meaning the Erpeler Ley. The people settled here because the Ley has a full southern position and the meadows had the first spring green for the cattle. ⠀ ⠀ The oldest surviving document dates from October 1167, in which it is reported how Erpel was donated to the Cologne cathedral chapter in 1130. In the first half of the 13th century the village received a fortification wall on the Rhine and a ditch with thorns on the land side. In the 14th century a circular wall was built around Erpel. The fortification wall means an extension of the old town centre to the north and south. The imposing gate tower, the Neutor, still stands from the fortification. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________#srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #lifeofgermany #visitrlp #lovely_trier #kings_villages #placestotravel_s, #travel_drops #PlacesShare #wonderful_places, #grmnyvacations via Instagram https://ift.tt/2Jfq6tI

An elephant was seen calmly walking down the main road and across front yards, unperturbed by cars and humans: It had run away from its circus pen and strolled for about one kilometer through the city of Neuwied (Rhineland-Palatinate). Videos of Kenia – as the elephant is named – circulated on Twitter, showing it on its spontaneous adventure.
It was a short and peacful getaway, said a police spokesman. The animal did not seem to be stressed – a circus employee was able to capture Kenia without any problems. According to the police, traffic was not endangered. Nobody was injured although some baffled pedestrians did not keep a safe distance to the massive animal and approached it to a short distance, as could be seen on videos.
But how could Kenia escape from “Circus Krone”, which currently visits the city? “It has probably torn the electric fence of its pen”, said the police spokesman. Even when the animal had long been captured, anxious residents had called the police after seeing photos of the strolling elephant on Twitter.
It is not quite rare that animals exscape from circuses. In March, two zebras escaped from a circus in Ludwhgshafen am Rhein. In Aldenhoven in North Rhine-Westphalia, three camels kept the police busy. They had made themselves comfortable in a residential area. In May 2017, several camels had caused a stir in Pulsnitz in Saxony: They were eating leaves of a tree before circus employees were able to catch them.
Spontaneous encounters with circus animals, however, are not without danger. In 2015, a female elephant killed a 65-year-old man who was taking a walk in Buchen (Neckar-Odenwald district,  tötete eine ausgerissene Elefantenkuh in Buchen (Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg).

The historical old town of Linz at river rhine with its half-timbered houses from five centuries. Linz at river rhine is a town in the district of Neuwied in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate near the border to North Rhine-Westphalia. Linz is a state-approved tourist resort and, according to regional planning, is designated as a medium-sized centre. ⠀ ⠀⠀ A ring wall complex, which was investigated in 1936 on the Hummelsberg near Linz and probably originated during the clashes between the Celts and the Germans, testifies to a settlement of the Linz area long before our era.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Grave finds in the city area date from the early Franconian period. Through Pippin the Elder and Pippin the Middle, the Nivelles monastery not only received goods in Rheinbrohl and Ariendorf, but also vineyards in Wallen near Linz. In the 8th century Linz was then the centre of a small Untergau, the Linzgau, which is mentioned in 771 and 778. ⠀ ⠀ In the center of my pic you see the catholic Parish church St. Martin. It is a protected cultural asset under the Hague Convention and built between 1206-1240.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________#srs_germany #loves_united_germany #meindeutschland #deutschland_greatshots #bestgermanypics_ #deutschlandkarte #raw_germany #ig_deutschland #topgermanyphoto #sharegermany #visitgermany #ig_germany #IN_GERMANY #europstyle_germany #phoenix_germany #batpixs_germany #germanvision #deutschlandmylove #super_germany_channel #inspirational_germany #travel_2_germany #germany_online #lifeofgermany #wonderlustgermany #wonderful_places #houses_phototrip #visitrlp #houses_ofthe_world #streets_and_houses #kings_villages via Instagram http://ift.tt/2CEjGRi
