Tiny and Fluffy by Regina Via Flickr: Another encounter of the cute kind last weekend at the park. This duckling is a young red crested pochard. There were five ducklings and they were tiny, probably only a few days old.

Moody - Red-Crested Pochard by Georgie Alexon Via Flickr: I thought this male Red-crested Pochard looked like he was in a bad mood or really deep in thought. This photograph was taken in the south of Spain. The Red-Crested Pochard is a large diving duck. They feed mainly by diving or dabbling. They eat aquatic plants, and typically upend for food more than most diving ducks.-wiki -Netta rufina

Duckling cuteness by Regina Via Flickr: Last weekend when I was at the neatby park I saw some ducklings but at the time only had my macro lens with me. So I returned to the park yesterday morning and luckily found them again near the place where I had first met them. This time I was equipped with my long telezoom lens, the ducklings were quite cooperative too and I could take a series of photos. Maybe I will post a few more occasionally. These ducklings are young red-crested pochards (Netta rufina), a species I don't see very often here, which made the encounter even more exciting.

Mäkelborger in Bayern
Œwer, wat makt ein Mäkelborger in Bayern? Worum utgeräkent in München un nich etwa Hamborg oder Berlin? Man dor ward ik jichtenswenn nåst œwer snacken.
Vör Wihnachten was ik mit Kommilitonen von mi up twei Exkursionen: einmal in'n Wold un dat zweite Mal an'n Starnberger See (etwa so grot wo de Schweriner See).
Openbår is dat typisch, dat Poggenstäuhle in’n Winter eihr sliemig sünd.
An’n Nymphenburger Slott sünd ok väl. Graugäus (Anser anser) geff’t nich, wieldat sei in’n Winter nå Süd fleigen. Dorför sünd dor Grot Kanadagäus (Branta canadensis) un Grönlandgäus (Branta leucopsis).
Noch ein Exkursion was vörherige Wäk, nochmal tau’n Stanrberger See, œwer ditmal an eine anner Städ un hoffentlich seihn wi dor Prachtdukers (Gavia arctica) un dornå geiht’t fort mit anner Waterdierte (ik möt mien Gummistäwels nich vergäten). Dornå geiht et tau de Amper.

March 17, 2019 - Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina)
Breeding from western Europe east to northwestern China and western Mongolia, these ducks winter around the Mediterranean, Black, and Caspian Seas to India and southwest China. They eat the roots, seeds, and leaves of aquatic plants, as well as some aquatic invertebrates and small vertebrates. Forming pairs in the fall and winter, they travel to their breeding sites in the spring, building their nests under plants on land or on floating vegetation, from roots, twigs, and leaves. Females incubate the eggs and care for the ducklings.
