‘Goodbye’: A Poignant Family Drama About Death Which Is Unmissable
Summary: With an emotional storyline and captivating performances, Goodbye is one of the best films in recent times for B-Town
Introduction: Family is an integral part of anyone’s life. We all are incomplete without it. Bollywood has been trying to regain its lost glory with a mixed bag of films like ‘Brahmastra,’ ‘Rakshabandhan,’ ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,’ ‘Vikram Vedha,’ and so on. Fans that have not gotten a chance to see a feel-good yet well-made film in the past few months don’t have to wait anymore. The renowned director Vikas Bahl has brought a riveting family drama film ‘Goodbye.’
Plot: The film’s main plot revolves around the changing dynamics because of family patriarch Harish’s (Amitabh Bachchan) wife Gayatri’s (Neena Gupta) death. Gayatri dies too quickly. Her unexpected death is a huge shocker for Harish and their four adult children. Each one has different ways to cope with their mourning and grief.
Storyline: Harish, the patriarch of the family, who is also the father of their four adult children, becomes a religious person. The spunky and fiery-headed daughter Tara (Rashmika Mandanna) becomes an atheist and starts hating the existence of religious rituals. For her, all these things are just meaningless and waste. She parties hard and lives in the moment. She is at loggerheads with her father Harish.
Karan (Pavail Gulati), who comes home with his American wife Daisy (Elli AvrRam), is a severe workaholic. He is having a business meeting during his mother’s ongoing cremation. While Angad (Sahil Mehta) indulges in stress-eating, on the flip side, Nakul (Abhishek Khan) is an emotionally unreachable person. While, no one in Harish’s family has ever been to a funeral. Due to that, they don’t know the importance of these archaic rituals related to death.
Performances: Special mention to the fact that Rashmika has given a nuanced performance as Tara, who is dealing differently with the loss of her mother. It felt like the role was tailor-made for her. Amitabh Bachchan as Harish, has essayed the character with finesse and perfection.
Other characters like Pavail Gulati as Karan, Sahil Mehta as Angad, and Abhishek Khan as Nakul have also played their roles effortlessly with confidence. But out of them all, Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna, stole the limelight with their stellar and nuanced acting in the film. ‘Goodbye’ has a blend of emotional undertones, a riveting storyline, an impressive star cast, and beautiful moments which make us realize the importance of having a family.
Review: The film has been garnering rave reviews and applause from audiences and critics for brilliantly using black humor as it deals with the after-effects of the shocking death, which shakes the foundation of entire family. In simple words, this Indian reimagination of the classic Hollywood film ‘Death at a Funeral,’ has been a risk that paid off well.
‘Goodbye’ has effectively stirred emotions of love and longing in the audiences and critics. There’s been a superb representation of all the main characters in the film. Exceptional direction and cinematography by Vikas Bahl with flashbacks of Gayatri that appear in the film have earned brownie points.
When Gayatri returns in flashbacks for all the main characters, Harish has nostalgia for their romantic love story. Tara, feels teary-eyed for not returning her mother’s phone calls. Karan sweetly revisits a precious childhood memory and misses his mom at that moment. ‘Goodbye’ with a mix of dark humor and squabbles, which are a part of the bereavement after-effects experienced by the family brought to screens brilliantly by Vikas Bahl, is a tale of moving on and letting go.

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned how much I love the movie Goodbye starring Amitabha Bachchan, Rashmika, Neena Gupta, Pavail Gulati, Sunil Grover, Abhishek Khan, and Sabil Mehta among others.
It’s a Hindi movie, and it is really touching. The premise isn’t new: adult children come home to attend their mother’s funeral. They content with traditions and customs and their father’s attitude.
Nevertheless, it’s a great film that will make you laugh and cry in equal measure. It is a sweet, genuine, sad, and also hilariously real movie about customs and beliefs surrounding death, how the people who are left behind deal with the loss, and how they move on.
Also, I just learned that this was the last performance of Arun Bali, who passed away on the film’s release day.

Mast Mein Rehne Ka Review - Jackie Shroff & Neena Gupta Make This Mast-Watch
Two lonely senior citizens strike an unlikely friendship and try to catch a thief who targets vulnerable retired residents like them in "Mast Mein Rehne Ka." Read our review of the Bollywood film starring Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3.5 out of 5. Sometimes, or perhaps too often, people forget that age is going to catch up with them and this memory lapse often makes them unkind. I remember reading a recent news report about a rise in the number of retired people being exploited, cheated, and duped, and in the majority of cases, the perpetrators are family and relatives. In Uttar Pradesh, India, the state govt…

The movie is helmed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige. What's even more interesting is that viewers will witness the new Marvel villain, Taskmaster. In the upcoming film, pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. The storyline of Black Widow, the release of which was delayed due to the pandemic, is based around sisterhood and the "complicated feelings" that come along with her and her ally Yelena Belova's (Florence Pugh) complicated relationship. Speaking about the change in Natasha's portrayal, Scarlett said, "Now people, young girls, are getting a much more positive message, but it's been incredible to be a part of that shift and be able to come out the other side and be a part of that old story, but also progress. Scarlett acknowledged that her character uses her sexuality as both "a means to feel" and a tactic to manipulate the people around her. "At one point calls her a piece of meat, and maybe, at that time, that actually felt like a compliment," she said. While it doesn't seem like the actor is too keen about the depiction of Natasha in previous films, she acknowledged the obvious erotic elements of her character. And Tony even refers to her as something like that at one point. Scarlett further continued speaking about her character and added, "Really talked about like she's a piece of something, like a possession or a thing or whatever - like a piece of a**, really.
Tumblr media
Speaking about it, during a 2019 press visit to the set of the upcoming movie, Scarlett Johansson said, "I mean, you look back at Iron Man 2 and while it was really fun and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualized, you know?" Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson, ahead of the release of Black Widow, spoke out about the way her Marvel character has been treated like a "piece of a**" in past films.Īccording to Fox News, while on set for her first standalone film in the franchise, the actor revealed her contempt for the hypersexualization of her character, also known as Natasha Romanoff, specifically in the Iron Man sequel.

Phulera Village: Is It Real?
Tumblr media
The maiden season of Amazon Prime Video’s Panchayat was released about a week after the 2020 Covid lockdown gifting the house-arrest with an easy escape from the unprecedented turn of events. For many, what started as a mindless watch eventually topped the binge-watch lists of India.
The series has garnered immense praise for its heartwarming portrayal of Indian rural life, capturing the essence of small-town dynamics with humor and sensitivity. The first two seasons, which premiered in 2020 and 2022 respectively, resonated deeply with audiences, leaving them eagerly waiting for the next chapter.
Phulera village had been the epicenter of the entire plot. Where is this village located? Is Phulera for real? Finally, Madhya Pradesh Tourism have shared details that TVF and Amazon’s series was shot in a village named Mahodiya in Sehore District of Madhya Pradesh
Slight reveal of behind the scene of the shoot location seems to amp the excitement. While shooting, the crew used one of the schools in the village to have lunch and the entire production team of workers came from Bhopal.
The by lane children in the village greet you with amiable pride, one of the most hit web series was shot in their very own village. While few say candidly, ‘Pani ki kami hain.’
Mahodiya is a well-known treasure trove of natural beauty, wildlife, history, and heritage. However, owing to the popularity of Panchayat series, the village is a well-loved mass destination.
Jeetendra Kumar expressed that R.K.Narayan’s Malgudi Days had been a great source of inspiration for the show.
Panchayat 3 Release Date: What to Expect from Jeetendra Kumar?
Best known for his role in ‘The Kota Factory’ Jeetendra Kumar went on to carve a spectacular niche for himself with three seasons in his kitty.
While essaying the role as the secretary to the Village Panchayat, Jeetendra Kumar might have been slightly apprehensive with the audience pull but to the surprise of the team, Panchayat today has rural, urban as well as international viewers.
An IIT alumnus, Jeetendra always harbored love for acting. It was a chance meeting with Biswapati Sarkar, the creative director and writer at TVF, which landed him his first project, 'Munna Jazbati: The Q-tiya Intern' in 2013. It was followed by the super hit series 'Kota Factory', where he played a teacher at an engineering coaching center turning him to the digital superstar. And the entire season of Panchayat only reinforced the genuineness of the title. Over the last four years, he has also forayed into films, the most mainstream one being 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan,’ 'Chaman Bahar' and 'Dry Day' (2023) was released.
Whether the hindi cinema veteran, Neena Gupta or Jeetendra Kumar whose popularity rocketed with Panchayat expressed that they shot in the unbearable heat when even the locals would stay indoors.

From Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 to Singham Again: 7 sequels releasing in 2024!
Just as 2023 was inundated with sequels (10 in all, including the Netflix Lust Stories anthology film), 2024, as of now, is set to have eight of them, plus a spin-off. As of now, as per reports, only two—Stree 2 and Raid 2—are likely to be true sequels, just like Gadar 2 and Tiger 3 last year. Last year, these sequels were crowded between June and December, but this year, they will begin from February itself. And this time, T-Series and Jio Studios are involved as producers in three movies each.
Tumblr media
Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 (earlier film in 2010) The next in the Balaji Telefilms’ bold franchise that introduced Rajkummar Rao and was Nushrratt Bharuccha’s first hit, the film was to release in February itself, but has now been postponed to April 19. Dibakar Banerjee is writer-director and co-producer again. As of now, Nimrit Ahluwalia, Anupam Joardar and the foreign actress Rossana Elsa Scugugia are the only cast known.
Singham Again (earlier films in 2010 and 2014) The iconic Rohit Shetty character of Singham will be back after Singham (that started Rohit’s Cop Universe) and Singham Returns, on Independence Day. Kareena Kapoor Khan also ‘returns’ as his wife from the latter film. Deepika Padukone is the newest (and first female) addition to Rohit’s Cops, while the other members of his Cop Universe—Simmba a.k.a. Ranveer Singh and Sooryavanshi a.k.a. Akshay Kumar will also feature here. Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor and (if buzz is true) Tiger’s father Jackie Shroff will come into this patriotic saga!
Jio Studios co-produces this spectacular production. But more importantly, this is a chance for Rohit to redeem himself after Cirkus. A small point: Singham also made a mark in cameos in Simmba and Sooryavanshi, so he will be seen for the fifth time here!
Stree 2 (earlier film in 2018) The new film once again features all the five loved characters in Stree—Shraddha Kapoor in the title role, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee. Stree was the first film in the Dinesh Vijan Horror Universe, and the sequel is again directed by Amar Kaushik. This Jio Studios co-production will also be an August release.
Tumblr media
Metro…In Dino (earlier film in 2007) This year’s sequels will be known for their ensemble casts. Anurag Basu repeats only Konkona Sen Sharma from the nine lead players of Life In A…Metro, and adds Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Pritam, his constant music composer, is in again. The first film had an unusual concept and theme and its music too was employed in an unusual way. The same is expected with this T-Series Films co-production.
Badass Ravikumar (earlier film, The Xpose, in 2014) This can be called a spin-off, or a sequel with a different title! Prabhu Dheva actually plays antagonist to Himesh Reshammiya’s lead character of Ravikumar, reprised from the earlier movie. The film is also produced and co-written by Himesh and has music by him, but it also marks the all-rounder’s debut as a director!
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (earlier films in 2007 and 2022) Anees Bazmee, director of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (which netted Rs. 185 crores in India) is helming the third part of the franchise that started with Priyadarshan’s cult horror comedy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which was his last Hindi hit, in 2007. He repeats his 2022 lead pair, Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, with Madhuri Dixit Nene, Vidya Balan from the first film in the franchise, Naseeruddin Shah and Elnaaz Nouruzi as co-star. The music for this November release is likely to be scored by the franchise’s composer, Pritam. The film is again produced by T-Series Films.
Raid 2 (earlier film in 2018) Ajay Devgn once again plays an upright Income-Tax official in this sequel to Raid (a Rs. 100 crores grosser), which is helmed again by Raj Kumar Gupta. Vaani Kapoor is the new leading lady, while Riteish Deshmukh is the antagonist. This is yet another T-Series franchise.
Tumblr media
Welcome to the Jungle (earlier films in 2007 and 2015) Ahmed Khan directs this multi-star adventure that will try and reprise the whacky mood of its predecessors. Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, child artiste Vrihi Kodvara, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and more are in the cast, including singers Daler Mehndi and Mika Singh. Jio Studios join Firoz Nadiadwala in producing the third part in his franchise of Welcome and Welcome Back, with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal repeated from the earlier movie. What remains to be seen is whether they will be playing the same iconic characters of Rajiv and Dr. Ghunghroo, which they had done earlier, with Paresh featuring in both instalments though Akshay was only there in the first.

1. Mast Mein Rehne Ka: Second Chances Story
Kamath, a retired widower leading a lonely and dull life, decides to find companionship. His life takes a joyful turn when he meets Mrs. Handa, a cheerful woman. They build a strong friendship through their shared adventures and moments spent together. Mast Mein Rehne Ka shares a story that may start slow but gradually captures your heart. The narrative, though not convincing at times, unfolds a heartwarming tale of second chances and companionship. This movie is a journey worth taking for those who appreciate a touch of warmth and a second shot at happiness. Release: 8 December 2023 Director: Vijay Maurya Language: Hindi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-oHvbDfU4U "In a world full of crime thrillers, this movie is a refreshing change. It's about old age, loneliness, and how people can find kindness and friendship despite tough times. Abhishek Chauhan and Jackie Shroff give great performances, supported by Neena Gupta, Monika Panwar, Rakhi Sawant, and Faisal Malik. The film beautifully shows Mumbai's true colors and how the city shapes lives. It's an emotional journey, so keep tissues handy. Kudos to the writers, director, and cinematographer for a compelling story. Neena Gupta and Jackie Shroff's chemistry is heartwarming. It's a beautiful and engaging drama, definitely worth watching."
2. Sam Bahadur: Vicky Kaushal's Effort
Sam Manekshaw is a highly honored officer in the Indian army, dedicating over four decades to serving and participating in five wars. He achieved the distinction of being the first army officer promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. Sam Bahadur brings us Vicky Kaushal's commendable effort on the big screen. While Vicky's performance is praiseworthy, the movie falls short of delivering a seamless cinematic experience. It offers enjoyment in fragments, showcasing the challenges of portraying a complex character like Sam Bahadur. Release date: 1 December 2023 (India) Director: Meghna Gulzar Music by: Score: Ketan Sodha; Songs: Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xJptj7AVSA&t=2s "Vicky Kaushal shines as Sam Bahadur, embodying the Indian army's spirit in a gripping performance. The film, avoiding unnecessary romanticism, delivers a genuine portrayal of military life. Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh contribute well, though the latter could have captured Indira's strength better. Memorable dialogues, like a powerful Gurubani, add depth. Scenes where Sam enforces security protocol and introduces a lieutenant are personal favorites. The movie pays homage to India's unsung hero, honoring military strategists often overlooked. Meghna Gulzar's team deserves applause for bringing this story to life, making it a recommended, pride-inducing watch."
3. Apurva: Thrills and Face-offs
When a regular girl has to navigate a really dangerous situation, she's willing to do whatever it takes to stay safe. Apurva promises a rollercoaster of thrills, shocking moments, and intense face-offs. This movie ticks all the boxes for an adrenaline-pumping experience, especially in the ultimate face-off between Apurva and the formidable antagonists. If you're a fan of suspense and high-stakes confrontations, Apurva won't disappoint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtVH3qz_XUA "This movie was a nice surprise. I expected a poorly done crime thriller from Disney HotStar, but Apurva proved me wrong. The cinematography is excellent, shot on real locations, and the background music is just right. The highlight is the menacing performances by Abhishek Banerjee, Sumit Gulati, and Rajpal Yadav as 'Jugnoo'. Rajpal Yadav, especially, shines in a dark role, showcasing his versatility. Despite some issues like continuity and accents, the movie keeps you on edge. It's a good watch, highly recommended, even if the plot bears resemblance to NH10 starring Anushka Sharma."
4. Ghuspaith: Moving Short Film
An Indian photojournalist named Manav has to brave the dangerous border between Bangladesh and India with his family. They're being pursued by a group of fighters involved in ethnic cleansing known as Mujahideen. Ghuspaith–Beyond Borders is not just a short film; it's a moving and thought-provoking piece of cinema. Dedicated to journalists like Danish Siddiqui, the film pays homage to their dedication and sacrifices. It raises important questions about the challenges faced by journalists working in conflict zones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRaxFsQfoZk "Amit Sadh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and Pamela Bhutoria deliver outstanding and genuine performances. They bring the characters to life, making you feel their pain and the situations they're in."
5. Mein Mehmood: Challenges of Immigrants
The movie follows Mehmood, a middle-aged immigrant in Dubai from the Indian subcontinent. His struggle with English makes it hard for him to talk to potential clients, risking his job. Mein Mehmood, directed by Prataya Saha, sheds light on the challenges faced by immigrants in a foreign land. The film emphasizes the importance of language and portrays the harsh realities of aging. It's a thought-provoking short film that encourages viewers to reflect on the struggles of those seeking a better life. Release: 2022 Director: Prataya Saha Cast: Anshulika Kapoor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQBzZmhO6Yc "Mein, Mehmood," a short film by Prataya Saha, reveals the struggles of Mehmood, an immigrant in Dubai during the pandemic. Focused on society's emphasis on English and youth, the film captures Mehmood's dilemma of balancing family ties and survival. Despite potential for a deeper exploration, it effectively sheds light on immigrant challenges.
6. Love-All: Poignant Father-Son Tale
"Love All" is a 2023 Indian sports drama film in Hindi, written, directed, and produced by Sudhanshu Sharma. Starring Kay Kay Menon, Shriswara, Swastika Mukherjee, Sumit Arora, Ark Jain, Deep Rambhiya, and Mazel Vyas, the movie was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on August 25, 2023. Love-All unfolds a poignant story about a father-and-son duo, shedding light on the unfair practices in sports associations. The film serves as a reminder that good sports facilities are a right, not a favor. It challenges the viewer to contemplate the role of politics and taxpayers' money in shaping the sports landscape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IleX8QX5Uyw A wonderful film! It showcases real badminton and a heartwarming father-son relationship. It's great that the cast consists of actual badminton players. India's No. 1 Men's doubles player, Deep Rambhiya, does a fantastic job as young Siddharth. Kay Kay Menon, a versatile actor, beautifully portrays the father and husband role. Don't miss this touching movie – catch it at a nearby cinema!
7. 72 Hoorain: Impactful Exploration
"72 Hoorain" is a 2019 Indian supernatural film written and directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. The movie experienced a delayed theatrical release in India on July 7, 2023, receiving positive reviews. Despite this, it achieved modest earnings as an independent film. 72 Hoorain effectively delivers a powerful impact by exploring the manipulation of ordinary individuals in the context of terrorism. The film doesn't just focus on the sensationalism of terrorism but dives deep into its psychological aspects, portraying how ordinary lives can be manipulated for extremist ideologies. Initial release: November 2019 Director: Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan Language: Hindi Produced by: Gulab Singh Tanwar; Ashoke Pandit; Kiran Dagar; Anirudh Tanwar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gH3NG2VIug
8. 8 A.M. Metro: Journey Beyond Panic
A man and a woman form an unexpected friendship after meeting on a railway platform. 8 A.M. Metro takes you on a journey beyond panic, exploring the chaos and emotions during a critical time. The film captures the essence of the moment, keeping you on the edge of your seat. It's a gripping tale that unfolds in the midst of panic, offering a unique perspective on human resilience. Release: 19 May 2023 Director: Raj Rachakonda https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf6l492kclQ Two strangers meet in the Metro, forging an unexpected friendship that unravels the essence of life, dealing with trauma, loss, and the healing process. The film, enriched with beautiful dialogues and poetic phrases, resonates emotionally. It's more than a movie; it's an emotional journey between Ira, a housewife with a painful past, and an introverted guy entering her life after movies like 'The Lunchbox' and 'Cheeni Kum.' The actors, including Ira's husband, deliver outstanding performances. Pritam finds happiness amid trauma, and Ira's book gives him a renewed purpose. Emotional and motivational, this movie is truly worth watching.
9. IB 71: Intelligence and Thrills
With little time to defend the nation against the threats posed by Pakistan and China before the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the Intelligence Bureau develops an advanced plan to overcome formidable challenges. IB 71 combines intelligence with thrills, providing an intriguing cinematic experience. The film keeps you guessing with its plot twists and turns, making it a must-watch for suspense enthusiasts. Vidyut Jammwal's portrayal of Dev Jammwal, an intelligence officer, adds an extra layer of intensity to the storyline. Release: 12 May 2023 Director: Sankalp Reddy Producers: Vidyut Jammwal, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Abbas Sayyed Story by: Aditya Shastri https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V9tu8rqWIg This movie is a hidden gem! Despite Vidyut Jamwal's atypical action roles, this film stands out with its limited action focus and compelling script. It surpasses Akshay Kumar's "Bell Bottom" in execution. The tight script, sans unnecessary dance or romance, shines against the picturesque Kashmir backdrop. Anupam Kher excels as Kao (D N Rao), adding depth to this espionage thriller. It's a refreshing departure from clichéd Bollywood true event movies. Every actor, especially Vidyut Jamwal and the villain Vishal Jethwa, delivers exceptional performances. The cinematography, VFX, gripping story, and uplifting BGM make it a must-watch, especially for fans of patriotic/spy thrillers.
