Sanatani Saints
PART 1
I will be starting a new Series on Hindu saints who have inspired many people and guided their disciples towards moksha.
Most of the contents are choosen excerpts from the internet. I will be adding my lines too.
I'm choosing Neem Karoli baba today.
Tumblr media
Neem Karoli baba was born in wealthy brahmin family. It is believed that Maharajji had acquired all the knowledge by the time he was 17 years old. It is said that Lord Hanuman was his Guru. He visited many places in India and was known by different names in different states. During his visit to Maa Tara Tarini Shakti Peeth in Ganjam, the local people addressed him as Hanumanji, Miracle Baba.It is said that once Baba was travelling in a train. He did not have a ticket. Due to which the TT officer caught him. Since he did not have a ticket, the officer asked him to get down at the next station. The name of the station was Neem Karoli. The village near the station is known as Neem Karoli. Baba was made to get down from the train and the officer ordered the driver to drive the train. Baba did not go anywhere from there. He sat down near the train with a tong on the ground. The driver tried a lot but the train did not move ahead. The train was not moving at all. Then all the people sitting in the train said that this is Baba's wrath. The reason for making them get off the train is that the train is not moving. Then the senior officer who was familiar with Baba apologized to Baba and asked both the driver and the ticket checker to apologize to Baba. Everyone together convinced Baba and apologized to him. After apologizing, Baba respectfully sat on the train. But he put a condition that a station will be built at this place. So that it becomes easy for the villagers to come by train because people used to come there from miles away. Only then they could sit in the train. They promised Baba and a station named Neem Karoli was built there. From here the miraculous stories of Baba became famous and from this place Baba's name started becoming known all over the world as Neem Karoli Baba. From here Baba got the name Neem Karoli.
He inspired many people such as Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg. Neem Karoli Baba was a lifelong adept of bhakti yoga, and encouraged service to others (seva) as the highest form of unconditional devotion to God. Baba would say that attachment and ego are the greatest hindrances to the realisation of God and that "a learned man and a fool are alike as long as there is attachment and ego in the physical body." He would advise people to surrender to God's will above everything else so that they might develop love and faith in him and thereby be free of unnecessary worries in life.
He was an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman.
🙏🙏 JAI BABA NEEM KAROLI 🙏🙏
Below is one of my favorite bhajans which reminds me of him.

A fellow satsang member asked Neem Karoli Maharajji how to meditate, he said, " Meditate like Christ."
He said, "Maharajji, how did Christ meditate?"
He became very quiet and closed his eyes. After a few minutes, he had a blissful expression on his face and a tear trickled down his cheek. He opened his eyes and said, “He lost himself in love.”

Moksie
Born: Xmas 2009 on the beautiful Mispellaan in Paramaribo, Suriname, South America.
Tumblr media
Maha Samadhi : January 27, 2025 Egmond aan Zee
We had bought a house and some land on the  Mispellaan in November 2009 ,left for Amsterdam, and came back again end of January 2010 to start working on our yoga shala. This is when we met.
Her mother Bruintje brought the three pups from down the street getting some food at the neighbours, and her father….well….who knows…! They all three still had blue eyes, just a few weeks old, when we first saw them. Soon we only saw two pups, and we found Moksi eventually under the bushes in our garden more dead than alive.  Poisoned. As people do this to street dogs often in Suriname. We took her to the vet, but he didn’t think anything would still help. She was truly in bad shape. We insisted he’d try something. That first night at our home she peed blood. But a few days later, at ShivaRatri, after we had been chanting in the evening, she got up and barked her first modest barks. There was no more turning back. We had found each other, and we were going on adventure together. Her papers to leave the country were signed by……Dr. Sri Ram ! Arriving in Amsterdam she was adopted by our three cats. Especially Do took it upon her to be her surrogate mother, always washing her and sleeping with her.
Tumblr media
That first year she came along with us doing a teacher training in Antwerpen, spending many weekends travelling there. Going back and forth to Suriname in the next years, Moksi flew 11 times back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean, visiting her family for long delicious playful vacations. In Amsterdam she was there when we created the Noord and DownTown yoga shalas, always patient when we were busy. She came to class with Patrick on the bike for many years, being completely comfortable in busy classes and during ecstatic kirtan, and became known as the “Princess of Svaha Yoga” . She was starring in Yoga Magazine and on tv. Sharon Gannon from Jivamukti Yoga called her a Holy Being.
She was there through all the ups and downs….being a support always. When she was only 7 ,she got injured severely getting attacked by dogs….resulting in a spinal injury which again led to nervous disorders. She fell over 4 times a day, and had epileptic seizures. Again she was given up by a doctor, but through natural therapy and acupuncture with golden mini bits she was able to recover over a long period of time. And of course, tons of love. Moksi would sleep on the bed, and it would be me on the floor. Due to the Corona pandemic, we sold the property in Suriname and moved to the seashore in Holland. No more travelling. The last 5 years we spend in heaven, having long walks in the dunes and evening walks on the beach. We are grateful for a life filled with sweet memories together. She brought a pure love into our lives that is unequalled by anything or anyone. She is the most gentle, loving, patient, and beautiful being one could ever meet.

The world is on fire all around me
And it’s not just in my home. Smoke fills my lungs in more ways than one while I lay face first on the ground with my arms out in surrender. Job 5 NIV 8 “But if I were you, I would appeal to God;    I would lay my cause before him.9 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,    miracles that cannot be counted.10 He provides rain for the earth;    he sends water on the countryside.11 The…

When he spoke of Christ, tears rolled down his face. It was as if he was witnessing the crucifixion. Later he told us to meditate the way Christ meditated. When asked how Christ meditated, he said, “He lost himself in love.”
