It would be so funny if only Chakotay & Neelix knew each other's last names. I also think it'd be funny if Talaxians all have last names but Neelix is cagey about his and everyone thinks it might be a cultural thing but it's literally just a habit he got into to make himself less identifiable (and he keeps it up bc it's funny to make a fuss about it) Meanwhile Chakotay just casually drops his last name in a convo with Neelix and Neelix is like "I didn't know you had a last name!" and Chakotay smiles and says "You never asked." And from that moment on they have a mutual unspoken running gag where they keep each other's last names secret.
