Some sketches of my AU Navi!Payakan when he was younger.

AU:

Payakan was 14 when his mother was killed by RDA, in the month that followed he tried to appeal to the elders of his clan(Tulkun) to retaliate against the sky people. Of course, because the Tulkun are a pacifist society they refused. Enraged, he led a small group of other tulkun youths and some Metkayina to attack, which led to him losing his arm, and being ultimately outcasted by his clan. (Tulkun don't have war garb or paint because they are pacifists - but Payakan makes his own war paint using a Pandoran squid of some sort.)

He learned to live and survive alone using isolated islands for shelter. He rides his ilu he's had since a child.

6 years later he saves Lo'ak from the Akula.

Instantly he feels a kindship with the young refugee as Lo'ak is the same age Payakan was when he lost everything and became an outcast.

yes, the third act of the book is sad and fraught with tension, and yes, snow is in clear mental decline at many points during it, but i did giggle when he went to go meet lucy gray at the meadow and his thought process was straight up just, “why must divas (us) suffer?”
