Porsche’s Taycan EV is ostensibly a Tesla Model S rival — arguably its most direct competitor. Indeed, the Taycan’s all-electric powertrain, prodigious power and four-door design all appear to fall neatly into that mold. But if you’re even passingly familiar with driving Elon Musk’s Dream Machine, it’s quite a surprise to drop all the way down into the bucket of the 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S. The German’s low-slung seating position and view out over the windshield feel infinitely more sports carlike than the more traditional, sedanlike perch found in the Tesla.

In fact, after a week behind the wheel of the Taycan, I’d go so far as to say that were today’s EV market more mature and varied in its number of offerings, many people wouldn’t be tempted to compare these two at all. The Porsche is a 911 that happens to be electric and have an extra set of doors, and the Tesla is arguably more of a sport sedan that happens to be electric (ironic, as the S is a hatchback and the Porsche is a sedan). That’s not a knock on either automakers’ approach to our electric future, as both are wonderfully accomplished machines, but despite these EVs both possessing ludicrous acceleration and handling, they feel totally distinct from each other and live different lives.

It’s evident right from the get-go that Porsche has gone its own way with the Taycan. The whole car sits closer to the ground and its nose and tail are sleeker. As a result, this is a car that requires some practical concessions in return for its more sporting reflexes. I’m not just referring to the 4S’ sports car numbers — the model’s 0-to-60-mph time is 3.8 seconds and its top speed is 155 mph, all of which is well within the bounds of what’s possible from Team Musk.

The 4S is the 482-horsepower (562 hp with launch control) midgrade Taycan, sitting between the recently released 321-hp rear-drive base model and the teleportation-esque 616-hp Turbo. Offering 479 pound-feet of torque, the all-wheel-drive 4S relies on a smaller inverter with the same motor as the Turbo up front, as well as a smaller motor out back. Priced from $105,150 (including a $1,350 destination fee), the Taycan 4S may seem like a relative bargain compared with the $150,000 Turbo, but it’s nevertheless eye-wateringly expensive. A drive in the 4S makes it easy to feel like this model is the Goldilocks of the Taycan family, but the truth is, it’s a stunner from top to bottom, offering amazing all-around driving experiences that are typically coupled with wiltingly high price points.

The Porsche’s difference is in its feel beyond its raw numbers. The 4S’ handling sets it apart, with an immediacy to its steering and braking, paired with a well-sorted air suspension that is everyday-livable, yet capable of making the most out of every corner. It doesn’t even take nine-tenths handling to figure out how special the 4S feels, which is a good thing, because as the photos accompanying this article suggest, the weather isn’t always exactly cooperative. The multimode suspension is compliant enough for everyday comfort, enabling remarkably flat cornering even without selecting stiffer settings. PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes are available, but seem like costly overkill unless you plan to visit racetracks regularly.

Despite not having a hooded binnacle, those digital gauges are visible in all lights.

The Taycan’s two-speed transmission continues to be something of a novelty in the EV world — nearly every other production electric goes with a single-speed direct-drive. The Taycan’s two-speed gearbox acts on the rear axle to provide both high-speed cruising efficiency and better low-end acceleration. While you probably won’t even notice the transmission’s operation in everyday driving, it is noticeable under hard acceleration. That’s not a complaint — it’s actually nice to get a subtle thwack in the back as the transmission shifts gears, as it gives the Taycan a reassuringly mechanical quality, even if it doesn’t presently make the 4S materially quicker than models from You Know Who.

Interestingly, you won’t find a full-blown one-pedal driving mode in this Taycan, although you can adjust the amount of lift-off energy recuperation. Porsche says this approach affords more consistent braking feel regardless of the battery’s state of charge, and indeed, the 4S offers the most natural modulation of any EV I’ve ever encountered. Having said all that, this driver would still prefer to have a one-pedal option.

The 4S’ sports carlike demeanor extends to its driving range, which is just 227 miles according to the EPA — and that’s when equipped with the optional dual-layer 93.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion pouch Performance Battery Plus, a $6,580 option. The 79.2-kWh standard-battery model taps out at 199 miles, and both range totals are significant improvements over the figures promised for the 2020 model. Both are a pittance compared with what’s available elsewhere, including the Model S Long Range Plus’ EPA-estimated 402 miles.

In profile, the Taycan’s 911-like design characteristics come through best.

As we at Roadshow and other outlets have told you in the past, not all range estimates work out the same in the real world, and we’ve found it’s significantly easier to get (or beat) the stated range of Porsche’s Taycan family in more situations than we have been able to in various Teslas. On the downside, Porsche nickels-and-dimes you for the best charging experience — an onboard 150kW/400V DC charger is a $460 option and Mobile Charge Connect (a charge cord with a built-in 5-inch screen) is $1,120. Even Porsche Intelligent Range Manager, a software function that calculates charge stops based on available range and driving style, is a further $300.

Fortunately, even an early spring snow in Michigan didn’t thwart my Carrara White Metallic 4S test car’s range, or its driving fun. In the end, though, there’s little doubt that there’s a significant range deficit here, so this Stuttgart special may be best viewed as a Sunday fun-day indulgence or a daily commuter rather than as a viable interstate grand tourer.

As a consequence of its slightly more compact powertrain componentry, the 4S actually offers a bit more rear trunk space than the Turbo, but that’s not to say that any Taycan offers a particularly generous amount of room. This 4S nets out at 17.2 cubic feet spread between its two cargo holds (14.3 cubes in back and 2.9 in the frunk). Compared with the Tesla, the Taycan is arguably best viewed here as an all-electric sports car with some additional spacial flexibility for two extra people in a pinch. (If you need more cargo room, Porsche now offers the Taycan in a fetching Sport Turismo bodystyle).

It isn’t just the hunkered-down seats that ram home the Taycan’s driving-first message, as the rest of the cabin follows suit. The dashboard is low-slung, with its prominent center stack contributing to a pronounced cockpitlike feel. The reconfigurable all-digital instrument panel is ultra-crisp and legible in any light, despite being hoodless. With tons of piano-black trim and plenty of touchscreen real estate, this particular 4S looks at once sleek and high-tech, but those same finishes make the cabin a fingerprint and dust magnet like few other test cars I can remember.

Speaking of high-tech, you can get the Taycan with up to five screens, including the aforementioned 16.8-inch gauge cluster. The central touchscreen measures 10.9 inches, plus there’s an 8.4-inch HVAC touchscreen and an optional 5.9-inch passenger display (not fitted to this vehicle).

Like my fellow Roadshow compatriots, I’ve come to appreciate Porsche’s latest-generation infotainment, though there is a learning curve and some will wish for more physical switchgear — especially for easier manipulation of things like airflow, which is controlled entirely via menus instead of a more intuitive manual approach. If you’re looking for the simplest solution, you can rely on Apple CarPlay for most functions, but Android Auto remains unavailable, at least until the 2022 model year, when Porsche will start filtering the tech into various models in its lineup.

My particular test car has comfortable, supportive 18-way power Adaptive Sport Seats ($400) clad in unusual Race-Tex fabric upholstery. With many high-end buyers seeking alternatives to traditional leather seats, this Graphite Blue material could be a welcome alternative, but I find it to be a bit coarse, both to the hand and, at $4,130, to the wallet. All-in, combined with other pricy options like 20-inch Sport Aero wheels ($2,770) and a $7,170 Premium Package (Bose audio, fixed glass roof, 360-degree camera coverage, ventilated seats and other niceties), this model rings up at $136,190 before available federal and state EV incentives. That’s a lot of coin in options, but Porsche’s build-it-your-way configurability is off the charts, and as such, $30,000 in options isn’t an atypical amount for Porsche customers at this end of the spectrum.

In the end, even with four doors, the Taycan 4S absolutely feels like the Porsche sports car of the future. It offers rewardingly self-assured, tactile high performance in a unique formula at a very exclusive price. As the middle child of the most driver-focused EV family available today, the 4S is a formidable and downright lustworthy machine — provided you’re willing to look beyond its spec sheet and price tag.

2017 Harley-Davidson Street Rod road test review

We really liked the Harley-Davidson Street 750 when we first rode it in early 2014. The motorcycle dared to be different from the traditional Harley formula, and its affordable price catapulted it to the top of Harley’s sales charts. Still, the Street 750 could use a bit of a polish-up. The fundamentals like the engine and chassis were good, but the brakes felt lacking and finish was iffy. You couldn’t shake the feeling that the bike wasn’t close to its full potential. Well, three years on, we have the first new model on the Street platform and it promises to deliver just what we longed for from the original.

The changes that transform the Street 750 to the Street Rod go far beyond the visual. Beneath the similar but more muscular version of the Street 750s lines lie a number of changes. These function in three major departments – suspension, braking and performance. The Street Rod ditches the standard bike’s conventionally mounted forks for a pair of fat 43mm upside-down units. Also new is an additional front disc brake that promises to improve the previous bike’s average braking performance, and it delivers. After having spent over 200km in the saddle, it’s clear that these two updates alone make it worth considering the Street Rod over the Street 750.In his first ride report from Singapore, Shumi reported concern that the bike felt rather stiff on Singapore’s smooth roads and that could be a problem here. The reality on our roads is quite interesting. This is indeed a firmly set-up motorcycle and on most roads, minor bumps and imperfections will be apparent, but not troubling. However, when the sharper, nastier bumps arrive, the Street Rod soaks them up with a damping sophistication that many of its more expensive family members simply do not possess. Poorly designed expansion gaps, eroded top layers of tarmac, large curls of tarmac, the Street Rod soaks these up without bucking you out of the seat or trying to powder your lower vertebrae. It’s the kind of behaviour you’d expect from a machine with sporty but well-judged damping and I really like it.As a result, ride quality isn’t exactly plush but it’s very acceptable. Handling, on the other hand, is very encouraging. The original Street 750 took a lot of lean before the pegs began to scrape, nearly 30 degrees on either side. The Street Rod adds a substantial 10 degrees of additional lean to the mix thanks to a 60mm increase in ground clearance and a solid 5-degree sharper rake angle. Cornering clearance also goes up thanks to the riding position that raises the pegs up, but not back. It’s Harley’s idea of a sporty position and it initially feels quite unusual, but you eventually grow to work with it. The pegs can get slightly in the way while walking the bike in traffic, but because they aren’t very long, the issue isn’t as irritating as in something like the Roadster.

Turning the Street Rod at speed needs a firm push at the flat, drag-style handlebar, but it tips into corners with confidence. Stability is unshakable and thanks to the well-judged damping, mid-corner bumps don’t generate the butt-clenching anxiety you’d feel on the average, over-damped Harley. The new MRF Revz H radial tyres are also a big step-up over the Zappers on the Street 750 in terms of grip and feel. The tyres have been upsized from 100/80-17 and 150/70-15 front and rear to 120/70-R17 and 160/60-R17s on the Rod. Fatter rubber and a better compound means increased grip, but a slimmer front tyre would have made for a more responsive front end.While the Street Rod is perfectly happy trundling down the highway at 90kmph, it also encourages you to grab it by the scruff and have a blast on a winding road. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the average Street Rod rider on a weekend HOG ride chomping at the bit to leave his more relaxed brethren behind. It’s simply in the nature of the bike! However, when you need a chill, comfortable ride, the Street Rod is happy to deliver. City riding is easy as well thanks to a decent turning radius, and the low 765mm seat height. The enormous 205mm of ground clearance means giant speed breakers and potholes need no caution whatsoever. I discovered that the fat, squishy seat is great on short rides, but the softness creates some ache after a couple of hours at a stretch. Another thing worth considering is that this engine, with its higher compression and the rear cylinder’s close proximity to the left thigh produces some serious heat, especially when idling at the lights.Speaking of the engine, the Street Rod takes the likeable, liquid-cooled, 749cc Revolution X V-twin and throws in a bigger air box, new throttle bodies and a fresh 4-valve head. Compression has gone up to 12.0:1 and this raises the redline to nearly 9,000rpm. Torque climbs to 62Nm from 59Nm but it peaks 250rpm higher at 4,000rpm. Harley doesn’t reveal power figures but we’re told to expect a 10 per cent increase. Sound and feel at low revs is familiar, with the engine settling into a muffled rumble that an aftermarket exhaust can turn into a throaty, powerful roar. Throttle response is quite smooth at the open-close phase, but you need to pay attention to the inputs in slow-moving traffic. The Street Rod motor produces strong torque from below 2,000rpm, and the resulting surge can take you by surprise if you’re not on the ball.

At a steady 100kmph cruise in sixth, the engine is ticking away at a happy 3,800rpm. Push it beyond this and some vibrations will set in at the handlebar and pegs. Ignore them, and you’ll discover a vast amount of performance on tap. The engine continues to build power right up to the rev cutout at about 8,900rpm, and the enjoyably smooth 6-speed gearbox allows quick swapping up and down the cogs. Finding neutral at lights can be tedious though and it’s easier to go down from second gear.In our tests, we recorded a properly brisk 5.4s run to 100kmph. Keep the taps open and 150kmph arrives with ease. Given the space, crossing 180kmph on the clocks should be possible. This makes the Street Rod the quickest accelerating Harley we’ve tested to date. Overall efficiency is 24.2kmpl, very reasonable given the performance and 238kg kerb weight, five kilos over the Street 750.Braking performance has seen a tangible increase thanks to the additional front disc and new master cylinder. The new forks do a great job of supporting heavy front braking, and I found my foot float to the brake pedal only for hard, emergency levels of braking. Brake force is comfortingly strong and progressive, but lever feel is still a bit wooden which makes it hard to gauge how much grip the front tyre has left. It’s nice to know the standard ABS is watching your back. ABS intervention is smooth and the system only cuts in when it has to. Good to see that Street finally has braking performance that complements its straight-line speed.Harley didn’t just focus on making the Street Rod nicer to ride, it also looks much better. This goes beyond the more purposeful, attention-grabbing iteration of the original design. There’s a lot more attention to detail with cleaner looking levers, well-finished rubber-topped aluminium foot pegs, and more thoughtfully routed cables and wires. The simple clocks continue and there’s still a couple of rough edges like the lumpy welds at the base of the tank, but quality has taken a giant leap forward. Further, the more absorptive suspension and relative lack of engine vibrations should also serve the bike well on our roads – less chances of things going loose or rattly.Overall, the Rs 7.41 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) Street Rod is such a substantial leap over the standard Street 750 that the Rs 1.05 lakh increment is a no-brainer. Purely in terms of being able to properly use and enjoy the motorcycle on our roads, the Street Rod is one of the best Harleys on sale today. Purists may miss the characterful chug from the air-cooled V-twins on the Sportsters, but that very charm makes those motorcycles more focussed on doing a few things very well. The Street Rod, on the other hand, has a much wider spectrum of abilities. It can be ridden relaxed or pushed surprisingly hard and it will consistently handle the worst our roads throw up. Regardless of the occasion, it will keep the rider happy and entertained. The whole appeal of the Boost Plus is that, unlike other portable jump starters, it is very compact and can fit in most trunk organizers. The weight of it is just under 2.5 pounds also making it one of the lightest models on this list. It is also extremely easy to use with its minimalistic design. At the front there are only three buttons – On/Off button, the Light mode button, and the manual mode button. With the press of the on/off button, you get 1000 peak amps delivered to your car’s battery when you crank the engine. It can crank gas engines with a volume of up to 6.0 liters and diesel engines up to 3.0 liters. It also has a capacity of 20 jump starts before it runs out of battery. Luckily, it fully charges in around 3 hours (at 2.1 amps).

In terms of safety, the Boost Plus has reverse polarity protection, although it has no indicators to flash or make a sound if you hook up the terminals the wrong way around. The jump starter also is spark-proof eliminating one of the biggest issues with other powerful models.

Along with its portability, this jump starter also acts as a portable power bank with 2 USB ports (in/out). It also has an LED flashlight with seven different light models, including strobe and SOS.

Unfortunately, this jump starter is a bit expensive, costing nearly one hundred dollars. It also works with 12V batteries only, being useless if your vehicle has a 6V battery. Still, the peak amps it can discharge combined with all of its other features and compact size make it a good-enough investment for most people. You also have a display next to it that displays various information such as the current voltage of the connected battery, amperage, and more. Another of the standout features of the JNC550A is its impact-resistant body and comfortable handle. Despite being expensive, you can rely on it to crank most gas and diesel engines. It has 700 instant starting amps with 1400 peak amps. Those are enough to crank gas engines up to 6.0 liters and most small and medium-sized diesel engines. The large front display will give you all the necessary information about the battery level, the amps that are going through the connectors, and a few other things. There is a reverse polarity sound and visual alarm in case you hook the terminals wrong. The jump starter works with 12 V AGM, GEL, and Wet batteries. You can switch the power between the jump starter and the USB ports with the controls at the front. Those USB ports work at 3.1Amps which is enough to fast-charge most devices. At the back, you have the air compression hose which isn’t very long. The compression works at 120 PSI and has an auto-stop function. It also has a SureFit nozzle but takes quite a lot of time to inflate your tires.

One unique feature of this DeWalt model is that it can perform an alternator check. This is something most other jump starters cannot. The design makes it quite easy to move around despite its nearly 20 pounds of weight. As a whole, this model fits right in the middle of all of its other competitors despite being slightly more expensive than them.

It also has multi-stage charging which increases the efficiency of the process and keeps the battery in better health. On top of all that, it has a testing feature that lets you diagnose your battery and alternator to see if there are any leaks or issues along the electrical system of your car.

While this is great on paper, in reality, it doesn’t perform that good and it can crank well most small and mid-sized diesel engines with engines above 3.0 liters getting a bit too much for it. It also has a lot of safety features such as high-temperature protection, short circuit protection, reverse connection warning, over-current protection, high-voltage and over-discharge protections.

With its 18,000 mAh, this GOOLOO jump starter can quick-charge any device with quick-charging enabled. That capacity is good enough for 4-5 charges of a modern smartphone, 2-3 tablet chargers, and getting a laptop halfway to full. The 12 Volt 10 A DC output is also good for portable air compressors, car refrigerator coolers, car vacuum cleaners, and more. One last feature that I want to mention is the LED working light which has three flashing modes including strobe and SOS and is also extremely bright.

Of course, the biggest advantage of being extremely small and practical is also its biggest disadvantage compared to other bigger portable jump starters. While it has a high peak amp rating, it can only crank your engine a few times before its fully drained.

Choosing the right jump starter depends on a lot of features, most importantly the cranking amps, voltage, safety features, and a few other aspects that will make things easier for you. Before you dive into all of the different features surrounding modern portable jump starters, we need to first go through some of the basic concepts here…

What is a Jump Starter and How Does it Work?

Jump starters, in their essence, are modified batteries that replace your car’s battery when it dies. They do that by connecting to the battery’s terminals and discharging an electrical current into your vehicle’s starter system that, in turn, cranks the engine and makes it start. Before the era of portable jump starters jump-starting your car had to be done with the electricity coming from another car’s battery. In theory, a car just needs a high electrical surge to crank the engine. After that, the car’s alternator takes care of all the electric demand. This is why jump starting cannot kill the donor battery unless you crank your engine a lot of times without success.

Nowadays, portable jump starters are quite affordable and people prefer having them in their car’s trunk just in case their battery dies when they’re on the road. It is also helpful if you see another car in need of jump-starting.

As with everything else, jump starters have heavily benefited from the progress in battery technology and have become much more sophisticated and potent over the last decade. Portable models can now crank bigger engines, trickle-charge your battery, and even inflate your tires if they have an air compressor built into them. Types Of Car Jump Starters

We can divide jump starters based on a couple of their aspects. First and foremost, based on their portability they are separated into portable jump starters and stationary ones. Based on their energy-storing technology, they can be divided mostly into lead-acid and Lithium-ion jump starters. Lithium-ion models have the benefit of high energy density and are, therefore, the predominant type you can find out there. I won’t go into the specific numbers but in general, they can store 5 times more energy into the same volume compared to the lead-acid batteries and jump starters. Still, lithium-ion batteries have their own set of disadvantages which is why there are still some sealed lead-acid jump starters around that are actually preferred over the lithium-ion ones by a lot of people.

So, we’ve covered what jump starters are and how they work, as well as the different types there are on the market. Now, let’s take a deeper look at all of the features that make for a good jump starter and learn how to choose one from the sea of models.

How To Choose a Jump Starter

The process of choosing the ideal jump starter for your car is a bit complex since there are quite a lot of things that you take into consideration if you want to get a good model. There are some models which are universally good but they are also quite expensive. So, if you want to get the best bang for your buck, you need to know a few things. The amperage of your car’s jump starter might be a bit confusing at first but is arguably the most important thing to remember here. First of all, there are a few terms that are used when talking about Amps. Those are – peak amps, instant amps, and cold-cranking amps. In reality, all those terms refer to one thing – how much electricity can the jump starter transfer to the battery in order to start it up. A car’s 12 Volt battery has 6 cells that each require a minimum of 1.2 Volts electrical current to start it up. So, the amps of the jump starter reflect how much power it can generate at that 6 x 1.2 Voltage (minimum).

The “instant amps” metric is how much amps you get instantaneously from the jump starter when you crank your engine. The “peak amps” is the maximum amount of amps that the jump starter can provide for 30 seconds at 32 degrees Fahrenheit (or 0 degrees Celcius). This is because that is calculated to be the average of what most temperature conditions will be in a situation where you will be cranking your car. In other words, its a performance figure that companies give you so that you can judge the relative power output of their jump starter.

Cold-cranking amps are almost the same as peak-amps but are adjusted for colder and harsher climates, meaning it gives you an approximate number of how much Amps will the jump starter put out in less-than-ideal wintery conditions.

In summary, depending on your car’s engine you will need different cranking amps to start it with a dead battery. You will have to check with your car’s manual to see what it needs to crank but getting a jump starter with more than 1000 peak amps is a safe bet for most types of vehicles. Only large diesel engines (above 3.0 liters) and extremely large gas engines (above 6.0 liters) will require an extra amount of power to crank. For those, opt for jump starters with more than 1500 peak amps.

Voltage

The voltage is important only if you’re looking for a jump starter that will work on multiple vehicles at the same time. Some vehicles have 6 Volt batteries while some industrial vehicles have 24 Volt ones. Having a jump starter that can crank at both 6 and 12 Volts is a great plus. December 2017 - Kuraray Co., Ltd. has developed liquid farnesene rubber for tire manufacturing. Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. has adopted liquid farnesene rubber (LFR) as performance enhancing additive in stud less tire WINTER MAXX 02. This LFR is developed by Kuraray using bio-technology derived monomer called Farnesene with help of Amyris, Inc. This development is expected to strengthen company position in automotive tire market.

September 2016 - Kuraray Co. Ltd, Sumitomo Corporation and PTT Global Chemical (Thailand) signed MOU for joint study for potential development of Butadiene derivatives in Thailand. In this Kuraray will pursue the global expansion for butadiene and isobutene derivatives along with competitive supply of raw materials.

October 2015 – Versalis and Genomatica has entered into partnership for production of Bio-based butadiene (BDE) from renewable feedstock. In this approach, company used microorganism designed by Genomatica to produce 1,3-butanediol to BDE and then obtained rubber from it through process engineering. This approach of design facilitates cost effective, and deployable commercial process around the world.

July 2015 – Evonik expanded its market position for C4 based products that includes 1-butene, butadiene, MTBE, and also isobutene, INA (isononanol), 2-PH (2-propylheptanol), and DINP (diisononyl phthalate). The company expanded butadiene capacity in Antwerp, Belgium by 100,000 tons, while for 1-butene capacity expanded to 75,000 tons in Marl (Germany) and MTBE capacity by total 150,000 tons in Marl and Antwerp. Butadiene is used in the manufacture of synthetic rubber (liquid polybutadiene). The projected started in January 2013 and completed in July 2015.

Volume Profile trading strategy – what happens with a timeframe?

Hello and welcome to this video from Diary of a Trader. Today, we’re going to be going over Volume at Price Analysis, or some people like to call it, The Volume Profile. Now, Volume and Price Analysis differs from regular volume, because instead of looking at the volume down here, where it’s telling us how much of something was traded over a period of time and then it usually shades it red or green, to say there were more buyers or sellers, so where I’m looking at now, there were 1631 contracts, or stocks, or coins, or units of currency, that were traded over this hour, and that most of the volume was from people selling. So, that gives us a good idea of what is happening with a timeframe, but it doesn’t tell us what is happening with price, and this is one of the hidden gems and kind of greatest advantages for intra-day trading or day trading. And, sometimes, you can find this for free on some software, but, at least in TradingView, this is a paid software or a paid version of the Volume Profile. we’re going to go to the Session Volume. So, the Session Volume only brings up what is… The Volume Profile appears for just the day that it’s happening. So, the open of Cryptocurrencies on TradingView, as that closes and opens at 7:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. And so, this is the Volume Profile. But I like to get rid of the histogram a little bit, and then create larger value areas, rows rather, and then I like to decrease the value area just a little bit. And then, what we see here is the Volume Profile for each session. And if you can see that, essentially what we have is, we have a horizontal representation of volume versus a vertical. So where vertical volume tells us what has happened and how much has been traded during a certain set of time, this is telling us how much of something has traded at a particular price. And if we were to even zoom in a bit here, and we were to apply the values, very hard to see right now, but we can see that the, for instance, right here, this says that we had 38 at this price level of about 8258 in Bitcoin, there were 38 Bitcoin bought versus 56 sold.

And so, what this does, the Volume Profile, it tells us where most of the activity happens and this red line tells us where our point of control, they call this the VPOC or POC. The point of control is where the most of the volume at a price has been traded. So, price has spent most of the time, trading at this 8232 value area. And what the point of control tells us, is that if prices are trading below the point of control, we are in a bearish and a weak condition, and if we are trading above, we are in a bullish and a strong condition. And you’ll see that, as this forms, as this point of control forms, we can get into conditions where it acts as a natural support and resistance there. So as the price was trading here, fell down, came back up to visit it, this formed a resistance area and it broke down away. That became a lot of selling pressure. Additionally, when we came down to the current price range, we are trading with a point of control down here, 7900, we are trading below that, and we have not reached back up to it, so we are considered to be in a weak and bearish cycle here. But we can look back and see over time, a thing to notice on your charts, is looking at how the point of controls are forming. Are they ascending? Are they descending? And is the gap between them expanding? That can tell us a lot. What we really like to see and identify, are these high volume and low volume nodes. So, a big peak in volume right here, this is called a High Volume Node, And then areas where there’s not a lot of activity, those are called Low Volume Nodes or I like to call them, Volume Deserts. And so, the behavior of these zones is that when price approaches a low volume area, a price area that has not had a lot of volume, it moves through it really fast. And you may not be able to see this so much on this type of chart volume, but we could look at a different way.

So this is great for Intra-day trading and looking at how the price action has been over the last few days to trade, but sometimes we need a broader view so we can do a fixed range. And for fixed range let’s say we want to… Well, let’s go to a daily chart. And then, let’s find the beginning of the month. So, let’s look for, here we are. We’ll start on May, 1st, and we’ll do a fixed range. So, on May 1st, and that will go all the way to where we are now. Now, here’s our Volume Profile for the current month of May, in 2018. And I’m going to do the same thing, where I like to get a few more bars, lower that volume area, and get rid of the shaded background because this is all I really need. So, for the entire month of May, this is what we’ve got so far in the price action. We see that the point of control is down here, is at the 8300 value area, and that we are trading below that line. The point of control, while it acts as kind of a natural support and resistance zone, it also acts as a natural point to return to. So, think of price being attached to the point of control like a rubber band. The further it pulls away, the more it wants to snap back up to it. And, we have a high degree of probability that when price comes from a higher low, and it retraces all the way to the point of control, and then goes above it or below it, whatever the direction it is, we have a high chance of retracing the entire move above here. So, in this scenario, if we were to trade all the way back above to this point of control on this chart here, we have a high probability of actually trading higher and above this.

The point of control is also very, very useful to use with natural areas of support and resistance, or zones of control based off of pivots, if you remember watching a video we did recently together over pivots. We do pivots point standard, if we take a look here, this pivot was at 8400, which is right within the value range of our point of control. So, that is telling us that we have a very strong area of support and resistance, so if price were to return to this area, it would have a very difficult time getting there.

Now, we should also look at the prior month’s trading period because that is also going to give us an idea of, well, if price is falling down below this point of control, where could it go? And so, we’re going to get the fixed range. So, we’re going to go to April 1st, and we’re going to trade that entire range here, and do the same thing we did for the others. And what do we see here? We see that the point of control, in April, was down here, where we spent the majority of the time trading down at the 6800 value area. Now, what is interesting to take a look at is… So we’re basically looking at a monthly Volume Profile, and we see that price traded pretty rapidly above through this area. You see where we have this lot of volume here acting as a support zone as we moved up? It was easier to move up because there was not a lot of volume traded in here. And then, we start to form another kind of base we saw, a High Volume Node form, and that was very easy to trade through it. And so, the past Volume Profiles can tell us a lot. And if we really want to get a broad view, this is kind of a more a dynamic style of view. We can look at it through the visible range, which will just tell us everything on the chart that is currently visible, it will form that Volume Profile.

Sometimes this is a little easier to see the kind of a larger picture view. We’ll go to 50 rows actually, probably on this one, 100 rows, same volume area. And if we want to go just from the all-time high here, we just trade our screen over until we are about right there. And so, this is the Volume Profile of the all-time high set on December 15th to now. And so, what we’re looking at is, we’re actually trading just slightly below the most traded volume area, and we’re right below the point of control, which is 8178. So, that is the point of control on this large swing, from this swing high to where we currently are. This is telling us that we are slightly below the point of control and so, that is a bearish condition, so we should observe over the next few days and watch to see what price does at these levels, because the behavior and the theory behind this says that this is a High Volume Node we’re in, and we’re technically trading below it, so price has a much easier time moving down, than it does, moving up. If we ever saw price trading back up to 9356 or that 9300 zone, if we look above us, all of this price activity, very, very, very open. Not a lot there. If we even want to scroll out and go all the way to, let’s go to the beginning of 2017, and this is our Volume Profile for 2017 to now. So, we can see that the Volume Profile is actually telling us the point of control is way down here at 1185, And that we’re kind of in the middle of a big trading zone right here.

So, this is a pretty interesting way to look at it. If we go to our weekly, we can see the whole price history and we can see that over the entire price history of Bitcoin’s chart on TradingView, the point of control is down at $212, which seems like a kind of a silly value, but it’s really not in the long run, it’s just telling us where most of the participation has happened. And again, if we were to go from a recent swing low to that all-time swing high, and we look at where we’re at, we’re still sitting right below that Volume point of control  zone of 8100, or at 8280, and that is what price is trading at currently, and if we see below us that the volume profile starts to decline the lower we go. So, it is going to be much easier for price to move lower than it is to move higher. That was just a little intro, and look at Volume Profile and how it can be used in your trading.
