Teapot Tuesday All Cozied Up
I have shared my love of teapots that come with their own cozies many times before on my Teapot Tuesday posts. They are the perfect companion for a great teapot and I was thrilled to find a teapot that fit in that category last week when my sister and I went exploring the National Road Flea Market in Norwich, Ohio. This was in my old stomping grounds and while it was not there when I lived in the…

Black women are disappearing at an alarming rate. In 2022 alone, more than 97,000 Black women were reported missing, according to the 2022 NCIC Missing Person and Unidentified Person Statistics, and we believe there are even more. Yet their stories are not making the national headlines. Carlee Russell’s case going viral was an anomaly that we had hoped would change that and spark nationwide interest in our cases.
Instead, it led to backlash due to the outcome. We’ve heard it all, from people saying they will never share a case of a missing Black woman again to resentment and anger, and even a halo of distrust that has others in our community looking at every Black missing woman’s story with a side-eye.
The sad fact is that we can’t afford to look the other way because the statistics and reality of the number of missing Black women is too glaring to ignore.
When I started as the co-founder and publicist for the Black and Missing Foundation, families were reaching out to us in desperation, seeking any help to bring awareness to their loved one’s disappearance. We were their last hope because no one was taking their cases seriously. There was a lack of media coverage, law enforcement support, and community engagement was sparse and disheartening. Although over the last 15 years, the Black and Missing Foundation has made some progress with national and local media partnerships, it is still not enough, with the number of missing Black women continuing to rise.
According to the Urban Institute, only seven percent of missing person cases involving people of color receive national media coverage. In those early years, beyond the Black press, I can’t tell you how many times my pleas for media coverage were met with silence or disinterest despite Black women representing 18 percent of all missing persons cases.
What I didn’t know in those early years of the foundation that I know now, is that Black women are often targeted, particularly regarding sex trafficking. Interviews with predators and pimps revealed that they target Black women because they believe no one will look for them and the penalty will not be as harsh for trafficking them. Also, Black women are not seen as victims. They are often stereotyped as promiscuous and responsible for their disappearance. Their white counterparts, however are viewed as a damsel in distress, needing to be rescued.
Without media coverage to raise awareness, the cases of missing Black women often fall through the cracks. Media coverage sets a sense of urgency in motion, galvanizing the community and putting pressure on law enforcement to add resources to the case, which can result in a quicker recovery. Sadly, our cases remain open four times longer than our white counterparts.
Missing Black women are rarely front-page news; sadly, many of us don’t even know their names. Tarasha Benjamin has been missing for over 13 years after disappearing from Selma, Alabama, following a trip to the flea market. The family of Emily Victoria Benjamin have been searching for her for nearly a year after she disappeared from Culpeper, Virginia, on September 2, 2022, after leaving for a road trip. Then there is Javitta Brockington, who was last seen on August 6, heading to Atlantic City, New Jersey. These are just a few of the cases we are actively working on.
These are our mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends, and if we don’t search for them, who will? While Carlee Russell’s level of media exposure was unprecedented, it doesn’t have to be.
What if it became the norm, and we brought more of our missing loved ones homes? The Black and Missing Foundation has been able to help locate more than 400 individuals with the community’s support over the years. We are working with thousands of families right now. That’s why we can’t afford to be deterred, derailed, or defeated by the Carlee Russell situation. We ask our communities to be our digital milk carton by sharing the profiles of those missing.
Help us to help the cases go viral. It only takes one person to come forward with answers to help bring home the missing individual or provide answers to families who are desperately searching for their missing loved ones. Elected leaders must work to enhance the public communication alert systems. When time is critical, you need to be able to reach the most people in the shortest time. The media and social media are the only entities that have the power to amplify these cases and to keep them top of mind with the public, which is critical for bringing our loved ones home.
Race, zip code, income, and education should never be factors in who gets media coverage and law enforcement support. Our missing Black women are counting on us. They matter, too, and deserve to be found.
Natalie Wilson is the co-founder of the Black and Missing Foundation. With two decades of experience in public and media relations, she knows the power and reach of media coverage. Natalie, who is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), holds a Master of Arts in communications from Trinity University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Howard University.

parappa 2 details you may or may not have noticed:
opening cutscene:
a truck with joe chin's likeness is crushed by the monster in the movie theatre dream sequence.
the plane seen in the movie is the same plane seen in stage 7's opening cutscene—which parappa's dad built.
in the movie theatre, you can see (alongside the main characters) the bullies from parappa 1 and um jammer lammy, joe chin, kotamanegi (name means something like "onion kid"), rodney greenblat('s self-insert), and the random visitors introduced in stage 3's opening cutscene.
in parappa's room, he has a bone-themed bed, and bone-themed wallpaper. on the walls, he has posters for "pony pony love house", the nba ([usamerican] national basketball association, but it's written as "nca"), the fruites dojo (with the poster bearing onion-sensei's likeness), the j-league (japanese professional football [soccer] league, but it's written as "j-leacue"), and a poster with incomprehensible text that i can't understand no matter what. his desk has a photo of sunny funny, a dog-themed phone, an alarm clock reading "07:01", a green box labelled "wipe out" on the spine (may be a reference to the playstation racing game, wipeout?), and a book with the text "ryo go-go" on the cover. next to his desk, he has a trash can and a small basketball hoop.
some of the noodle cups, and the boxes they come in, are labelled "beard noodles". the other containers are just labelled "noodle".
the scratch-offs read "super scratch", "noodle products", and "get! 100years supply". i can't read what the scratchy part reads, but it says something about noodles.
there are pictures depicting parappa and his dad in front of many, many cups of noodles, and some boxes of noodles.
parappa's father serves him noodles with lettuce, cucumber, and tomato; noodles with milk and cereal; noodles with what i assume is red onion and celery; noodles with cheese hamburg steak; normal spaghetti and meatballs (noodles obligatory); noodles with strawberry shortcake; noodles in a sandwich; noodles with chicken legs; noodles with a sundae; and noodles in a carton of milk. oh, and of course, the monstrosity bowl with an entire fish, a donut, a hot dog (with ketchup and mustard), flan, and two pieces of cucumber.
the tv in the background contains a joe chin advertisement, with text reading "it is you about a gorgeous life.", "joe chin company"
sunny serves parappa and pj the same monstrous things parappa's dad served him.
stage 1
in the town, you can see Sweety Cakes (the cake store where parappa got a cake in the cutscene before stage 4 in the first game), Fruites Dojo (onion-sensei's dojo, of course), U-Drive University (the driving school where parappa was tested for his driver's license in stage 2 of the first game—though the test was on the open roads), a building with the text "no wait" "eay", a bookstore shaped like an open book, the movie theatre, the flea market… and, of course, beard burgers.
in the cutscene, rodney greenblat's self-insert drives by twice.
from outside, the beard burgers menu reads "big beef burger", "big beef burger giant", "big beef burger giant with cheese", "big fried potatoes", and "smoothie - orange or spinach".
the many patrons of the restaurant are eating noodles from plates, fries containers, and drink cups.
joe chin's limo no longer has vinyl panther seats.
there is a sign that reads "we've been cooking beef the same way for over 500 years! beard burger 1501 – 2001"
the other patrons of the restaurant are very scared of the beard burger master's ghost—hiding behind the tables and sneaking towards the door to get away from the ghost. even pj and parappa are scared, but they chill out when they realise the ghost is gonna teach them how to make burgers.
the kitchen's wallpaper is cow-themed.
the sign in the back of the kitchen reads "more meat means more beef"
the beard burger master's soon, colonel noodles, appears holding the noodliser when you mess up.
the ketchup bottles, mustard bottles, salt&pepper shakers, flour/sugar/to-go bags, trays, mugs, and mop are all modelled in the beard burger master's likeness (and so is the rest of the kitchen equipment, but those are easier to see)
the beard burger master has some very funny ad-libs you might not hear if you aren't paying attention. after saying "toast the buns", he will say "my buns are very toasty". when he says "melt the cheese", he goes "ow!" parappa is holding back laughter in his lines after these certain ad-libs. he also says "serve the drinks—serve them", "french the fries—french them". as well as other things such as "mm yeah, come on". you know, usual ad-lib stuff. "you gotta, you gotta" "yes, yes, very nice" "you know? you're doing good now"
stage 2
the movie theatre is playing "jet baby: the movie"
the truck with joe chin's likeness drives by.
colonel noodles serves parappa and pj soft-serve vanilla ice cream.
a "hot gas" truck drives by.
joe chin also drives by, in his limo, and waves to rodney's self-insert.
the bullies from parappa 1 and um jammer lammy are seen exiting the movie theatre.
the news show is titled "rodney world news 20".
the joe chin advertisement, with text reading "it is you about a gorgeous life.", "joe chin company", can be seen on the tv screen for a brief moment before the camera changes, and then for a bit after parappa and pj enter parappa's house.
when performing the commands "love with rose", parappa pulls out a bouquet of roses, whilst pj pulls out a plate with sliced meat and what i assume is tomatoes and basil as garnish.
stage 3
pj is the only one who notices when the shrink ray shrinks parappa and sunny's dads, looking back after they're shrunk once again.
when lammy, katy, and masan enter parappa's house, you can hear muffled voices saying "it's milkcan!" the same voices also say a bunch of other stuff i can't understand.
when the shrimp enters the house, it says "ebi san", which means "mr shrimp"? "i'm mr shrimp"?
you can see parappa come out of a red house with a green roof, purple driveway with a white car. the property has a brown fence around it, but it also has another chainlink fence inside with a red gate, around a dog bowl-themed pool.
the houses nearby are a square, bear-themed house, and a rounded squared-shaped fishbowl-themed house.
stage 4
you can see the "tape deck" noodliser in the cutscene.
the soldiers in the "special force" appear to be wearing cooking pot lids, and holding six-stringed banjoes with bayonets.
pj (understandably) doesn't really like being picked up and carried by the back of his neck…
the building next to the rocket in parappa's daydream sequence has the crest of the noodle syndicate on its side.
poor pj looks miserable… :(
the jump rope machines resemble a frog with a rainbow mohawk, and a brunette woman with a red dress.
pj is also jumping rope! and he's still miserable.
during the "i gotta do this every single day" lyric of the rock climbing section, you can see pj struggling his way up.
you can see pj climb up to the top of the rock wall… and immediately fall off when trying to stand up.
stage 5
pj is overjoyed when he realises he accidentally sent a giant barbell flying at one of the bullies from the first few games.
we can see many stores, such as "sandwich heaven", "fruit lovers", "big bagel", "chicken chic", "cheeze queen", "cafe rodney", "sushi beast", "tofu tub", as well as the sign for the hair salon.
you can see the "tape deck" noodliser on the counter.
for some reason, the "hostages" don't have the noodle syndicate seat buckles (explaining why they can't just leave) in the cutscene, but they do in the stage.
parappa's car in the daydream sequence more resembles his dad's car from before he crashes it in the first game than the car he buys afterwards. and though the license plate cannot be seen in the cutscene, it reads "popscar" ("pop's car"), implying it's a repaired version of parappa's dad's car.
parappa switches between scissors, a shaving razor, a comb/brush, a lamp thing, shampoo bottle, and blow dryer.
parappa uses a cabinet with wheels and the claw thing as improvised stools (he wouldn't be able to reach the hostages' hair otherwise). when he has to wash and rinse lammy's hair, the floor also rises up for him.
stage 6
the basement room has the same shelf and desk from the living room, two unfinished denoodlisers, a dozen boxes of noodles, two boxes of pet stones, and exercise bike without the pedals, two dozen nondescript boxes, a stepladder, and a bucket hanging from the ceiling.
after clearing the stage, you can see pj sitting at the desk in the background… presumably eating noodles.
stage 7
katy kat's cellphone has a charm depicting parappa and pj holding a giant ice cream cone, with four scoops of varying flavours.
as the anti-noodle bicycle is, well, a bicycle, lammy is standing on the back pegs of it, holding into katy for dear life. poor lammy
when the stage begins, pj disappears.
colonel noodles and parappa eat with a three-pronged fork.
the "fruit in a basket" consists of an apple, an orange, and a bunch of three bananas.
when colonel noodles places noodle-filed shrimp sushi and a burger, the takes off the shrimps and the bun and the rest of the burger's toppings to prove his point.
when colonel noodles says "noodles", the letters are made of noodles. when parappa says "cookies", the letters are made of chocolate-chip cookies.
cherry pie.
the splash of water knocks the glasses/mask off of colonel noodles' face, and the noodle plate from his hands. you can also see a bucket drop from the ceiling and roll off-screen.
in the thought bubbles, the following foods appear: corn bread, baked potato, onigiri (rice balls), cinnamon roll, cream horn, and. i honestly can't tell what that one pastry is.
stage 8
when sunny runs up to parappa and colonel noodles, she is holding an "afro catalog".
ending
behind u-drive university, you can see a the bear-themed house from before, as well as a cat-themed house, an ambiguously-shaped house, and a house with a joe chin's face on top.
pj, masan, and the bullies are walking by the movie theatre. joe chin passes by in his limo again
joe chin is walking by "chicken chic" with katy and lammy.
hairdresser octopus is being interviewed outside of his salon.

Last Day in Greece - Athens, Greece
Originally, the plan for today was to check out the flea market, then climb the Hill of Muses, and go to Takis Bakery to buy bread for dinner. We successfully completed all of those tasks, but the things we came across unexpectedly along the way were wonderful little gems. What a great last day in Athens!
After checking out a couple of shops, we decided we needed a little bite to eat. We found a little street cafe, hoping for a little lunch - unfortunately, they weren’t serving lunch, yet. So we had an iced cappuccino and a chocolate “pie” (looked like cake to us) - both were amazing and we had enough fuel on board to continue with our mission for the day!
One of the streets near the flea market.
Think we found the flea market!
We wandered the streets near the Stoa of Attalos, there was a museum inside, but we decided to just walk outside.
We could see the National Observatory and a beautiful church in the distance while we were walking.
Once we left the flea market area, we found ourselves on a huge pedestrian walkway to the west of the Acropolis. We followed it around, lots of vendors and restaurants, but nothing that really appealed to us. We came across this interesting wooden bike on one of the sidewalks:
As we were walking along, we looked up one of the side streets and saw the church that we had seen from the stoa. We decided to head up the street and check it out.
We couldn’t read the name of the church, it was in Greek. However, we enjoyed walking around the beautiful building.
Jacaranda tree in the plaza next to the church.
Behind the church, we found this walkway/road, we took it up to the entrance of the National Observatory. The Observatory was closed, so we couldn’t go in.
National Observatory.
From the observatory, we followed a set of stairs up the hill. We found ourselves on a pathway that led to ruins - cool surprise!
The Pnyx Monument, built between the late 6th century BC to the late 4th century BC. It served as a meeting place, holding around 10,000 people in the open-air chamber.
Speaker’s platform - Aristides, Pericles, Demosthenes, and Themistocles all delivered speeches here.
Niche in the wall where there was a statue of Zeus Hypsistos, the smaller cuts in the rocks held candles.
Spectacular view of the Acropolis from the Pnyx Monument.
Lycabettus Hill in the distance.
As we continued along the path, hoping to eventually find the path up to the Hill of the Muses, we came across this beautiful church. Church of Ayios Demetrios Loubardiaris.
A few people were ringing these bells, while we walked around the church.
The patterns in the walls were amazing - I am sure that they were indicative of something, but we didn’t see information about that.
This emblem was carved into the side of the roof of the church.
One of many carvings on the side of the church.
Great story about the church.
Sign at the bottom of the path heading up the Hill of Muses.
Philopappos Monument located at the top of the Hill of Muses (also known as Philopappos Hill).
Info about the Hill of Muses.
On our way back to our place, we stopped at Takis Bakery for a loaf of bread. It was very crowded and very tiny - I forgot to take pictures due to the tight quarters. We also found a great little deli, where we stopped and bought cheese and salami to go with our bread.
Doug, trying to decide what kind of salami he wanted for dinner.
We dropped off our purchases at our apartment and then walked a couple of blocks to a sidewalk cafe for lunch. I had a great Greek salad, Doug had a slice of pizza and some of my salad - we were entertained by the crazy, chaotic streets of Athens as we ate our lunch on the sidewalk.
I wanted to get a couple of pictures that would demonstrate the amazing parking skills of the people of Athens - it is really quite remarkable where and how people find places to put their cars and scooters:
The street to our apartment in Athens.
After lunch, we walked over to a bar close to our apartment and had a couple of adult beverages. We enjoyed visiting with the bartender - he is headed to New Hampshire in December to visit a friend. We shared with him how cold it was going to be during his visit, I don’t think he believed us! It was fun having a chance to learn a little about Athens from him, he was very disappointed that we did not get to visit any of the Greek islands. Maybe next time!
We took a little siesta after lunch, taking the time to just hang out at our apartment and catch up on some blogging and other business we needed to handle. We had a dinner of bread, cheese, salami, and fruit on our patio. As the sun was setting, we wandered out again to find a place to spend our last evening in Greece.
While wandering the Plaka neighborhood, we found this little fixer-upper for sale.
Beautiful streets of Plaka.
While wandering the streets, I noticed a sign over a doorway that indicated a rooftop bar. We walked into the lobby of the building and climbed several flights of stairs, before we found a little doorway that opened to a little restaurant and bar area. We decided to walk through the small indoor space to the patio at the back of the building. We found ourselves to be the only people that wanted to sit outside. We walked outside and found ourselves staring at this scene:
Jaw-dropping view of the Acropolis from the rooftop of this hotel.
We ordered ouzo, since we hadn’t had any during our visit to Athens.
Oh, we also had a glass of wine, too!
Our view only improved as the city lights came on.
Great little find - Hotel Byron Roof Garden.
On our way back to our apartment, we noticed this little wine bar - just a block from our apartment. We had to check it out!
Doug, talking wine-openers with one of the owners of the wine bar.
Jamas, from Wine Pointe in Athens!

BALITANG REHIYONAL: Tragic Accident in Mabinay town claims 15 lives, leaving 2 were injured
MABINAY, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- A vehicular cargo truck plunged off a cliff in Sitio Tubod along the National Highway in Brgy. Bulwang, Mabinay, Negros Oriental resulting in the loss of 15 lives, and leaving two individuals injured, rushing through a local hospital in the said municipal town last Wednesday afternoon (February 21st, 2024 -- Mabinay local time).
The male driver of the truck was identified as Mr. Antonio Boganotan Toreno, a widower and resident of La Libertad, this said province. While Ms. Jovanni Timtim Flores, also the legal age, married and a resident of the aforesaid municipal town and province. The vehicle involved in the accident was a classic Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter with the plate number GKC 455. The owner of a cargo truck is Rolindo Rusiana Decipolo Sr., who is 63 y/o, married and a local resident of the said municipal town and province.
Reports from exclusive local radio broadcasts during "11 MBPS" news and public affairs program (Mga Balita kag Public Service) in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental; and "El Castigador" in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; aired through regional FM radio stations of K5 News FM, shed light on the circumstances surrounding the accident. According to these reports, the truck was en route to Brgy. Dawis, National Highway, Bayawan, Negros Oriental; passing through Mabinay town, to participate in a flea market where livestock buyers, including Mr. Toreno himself, were expected to purchase pigs, cattle and other animals.
The cargo vehicle was carrying a total of 17 passengers, all livestock buyers, when it veered off the road, crashing through a weakened concrete barrier and plummeting below the cliff. Several victims lost their lives on the spot, while others sustained injuries and were promptly transported to the Mabinay MediCare Community Hospital (MMCH) for treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that mechanical trouble with the vehicle may have contributed to the accident, causing Mr. Toreno to lose control as he overshot the cliff's edge in the killer bottom curve. The bodies of those who perished have been transferred to a local funeral parlor in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, where they will be released to their respective families in due course. Following after his recovery from a local hospital at MMCH, Mr. Toreno may potentially face reckless imprudence, in resulting to multiple homicide and serious physical injuries for the cargo truck driver.
Mabinay town is going through a tough time as they mourn the loss of their fellow residents in Negros Oriental. The entire region is currently affected by this sad event, and authorities are looking into what happened. The local governments of Mabinay and La Libertad are reaching out to the families of the victims and providing assistance to those impacted by the tragedy.
It is a sure wake up call of the significance of road safety and vehicle inspection, which can be later provided by the Land Transportation Office (LTO). The death of a cargo truck driver in this accident is also a stark reminder of the dangers that may arise when safety measures are not considered when traveling on the road. While the said region is mourning for the lives lost and praying for a speediest recovery of the injured except those who were all died, the questions about the road infrastructure adequacy in the killer curve, and stricter enforcement of maintenance standards of vehicles to prevent such tragedies like this in the future.
For now, the Negrosanon community is coming together in sorrow, giving comfort and sympathy to the families and friends of those impacted by this tragic accident.

Mystery Lights in Estill County
The first time I'd ever heard anything about "mountain ghost lights" in Kentucky was in the early 1980s, when I dated a girl who told me the story of a large floating lights that appear and disappear on several different mountains in Estill County.
I have a lot of kinfolk in the deep-rural area and spent a good chunk of my childhood in this peculiar and spooky place. I thought I'd experienced all there was to experience there but had never heard of this phenomenon. Intrigued by the concept, I fired up the video camera and set about arranging some camping trips in the area so my girlfriend could show me these mystery lights.
The problem-or the charm, if you enjoy tall tales-with mystery lights is that when you do see a weird light on a mountain in front of you, you have no way of immediately verifying anything. I learned this the hard way when I spotted a suspicious light for the first time and started trudging up the hill like Teddy Roosevelt. Of course, I lost sight of the light when I started climbing, and when I finally got to the top, I found nothing. When I slogged my way back to camp, my lady friend reported the light had gone out just as I'd started going up. After that unnecessary exercise, I chose to simply watch and wonder from out vantage point instead of going after the answers.
After a summer of trying, we never did conceive proof of a genuine "ghost light" sighting. I chalked it up to a rural legend and filed the case in that very small section in my mind reserved for things I considered debunked. But the story of this ghost light wouldn't go out. A decade later, while I discussed paranormal matters with a retired gentleman at a flea market in Ravenna, he brought up the mystery lights with no prompting from me. His story placed the lights in Cobb Hill, a totally different area than the one to which my friend had led me. According to him, these lights weren't just stationary or floating, they were darting all around the surface of the mountain like, in his own words, "a hundred pound lightnin' bug."
This leads me to suspect some sort of electromagnetic phenomenon, rather than ghosts or UFOs, but that ain't bad. I have long suspected that some sort of ley lines type of strange energy runs through Estill County, and this could be the first step toward demonstrating that in some palpable way.
I recently spent several nights trying once again to document this phenomenon, to no avail. Because it's such a remote area, there aren't a whole lot of locals with doors to knock on and ask, but I have spoken to others who have indeed heard the rumors of ghost lights, none of whom would go on record as having actually seen them in person. I am determined to not only photograph it, but figure it out. Weird Kentucky will keep you posted.
Sand Mountain's Ghost Lights
Sand Mountain is a towering section of knobbed hills that joins the national forestland of the state. It lies about twelve miles south of Mount Sterling, and is located between the towns of Jeffersonville and Means.
In the early 1900s, before the wide use of automobiles, people in the region near Sand Mountain reported seeing mysterious lights on the steep slopes. Firsthand accounts often claim the lights appeared along the roads and paths of the mountain. They sometimes seemed to follow passing travelers, as if they had an intelligence of their own. One man claimed a ghost light often appeared along a certain stretch of road, hovered in the air, and then vanished.
As the area near Sand Mountain has grown more populated, sightings of the ghost lights decreased. Some have suggested that natural-gas wells may have caused the phenomena but no one really knows for sure. -Troy Taylor
