Knowing My Place Through The Seasons
The longer one lives in a particular place, the more one gets to know its ins and outs and everything betweens. And that’s how it felt as My Guy and I wandered some trails at Bridgton Historical Society’s Narramissic Farm and Loon Echo Land Trust’s Peabody Fitch Woods this afternoon. He, of course, took a coyote for a walk, trying to stay on top of the snow without post-holing, for such are the…

Hardly Hard to Find
Hardly Hard to Find
A few years after the Town of Bridgton, Maine, incorporated, William Peabody of Andover, Massachusetts, built a house for his bride, Sally Stevens. The large, two and a half story building with a center chimney, was surrounded by over 200 acres of fields and forest upon which they grew crops, raised livestock, and created maple syrup, butter, and cheese. In 1823, William and Sally’s fourth…

The Amazing Race--Our Style
The Amazing Race–Our Style
Tumblr media
I’m sure when we said our wedding vows back in 1990, there was something in there about only riding a snowmobile once. A Blue Bird Kind of Good Friday

It had been just over a year since I last visited and I wanted to show her the shagbark hickory buds. And maybe even the bear trap. We crossed the field behind the house and started…

Babe in the Woods
Babe in the Woods
This morning dawned bright and brisk and offered a brilliant background for a journey through the almost Peabody-Fitch Woods that Loon Echo Land Trust hopes to add to their holdings. The 252 acres of the proposed project surrounds Bridgton Historical Society‘s Narramissic Farm.

Jon Evans, Loon Echo’s Stewardship Manager and board member of the historical society had asked me to join the walk…
