Opulent hedonistic rebellious prince n his manipulative advisor who indulges in his every whim and also has a gorilla grip on him hihihi (prince is the one carrying the adviser btw. Adviser is a trans guy btw btw btw.)
Sorry for going with tropes but Namwaren is simply one of those men with severe and inoperable mommy issues who can be controlled with a plate of sliced fruit and a dominant effeminate personality asking him who's a good boy

Namwaren cracks me up lmao seems like he has both bastard and himbo energies xd Radinta doesn't deserve to be haunted by him like this (or does he...)
Oh G-d I wish I could tell you guys everything about Namwaren without spoiling the story bcos I love what I wrote for him. Help!
Radinta's beef with Namwaren is completely one sided too, its like the thoughts of assassinating Namwaren Consumes him, while Namwaren has a swanky palace complex in a jungle bordering a wealthy city, bc g.ddammit he's a merchant prince and he's good at his job and it's populated by beautiful people from across the gender spectrum ,and Namwaren thinks Dinta is just another hot piece of ass in his Binormative court of simple pleasures.
Dinta: I drew you on this palm leaf scroll and look at it when I practice eskrima
Namwaren: you want to kiss me so bad
Dinta: I'll jump you. Come outside your palace
Sarawak: yes! Take your shirt off !!

Sorry I always post this map, the fact is that their world is Sundered and broken is deeply important to the story- trying to convey the peoplehood of an archipelago and how, while similar, they are all vastly different as well.
Tumblr media
Some lore:
- Radinta was sold into indentured servanthood from Sasaban to Janalila.
-Sasaban is actively occupied by Janalila.
-Sasaban, while being subjected to forced assimilation, has its own thriving culture, from weaving, to dance, song and poetry and art.
-Darenya is a Sanjata- Sanjata is just the word in my story that means Indigenous. Darenya's tribe's name is Mandalayang Amsara. They are from the very north, there are few of them who still live their lives as indigenous folk, while many have assimilated into the nearby cities. People from all over the sunderings pay the Sanjata tithings and reparations- however, many of these reparations are just a front, because the Sanjata live on lands rich in resources, natural and human. Radinta was given to Abintan (Darenya's father) as a gift from Janalilan emissaries to work until he was 16, until he earns his freedom- this doesn't even come as a shock to Darenya- to him it is utterly baffling.
The sanjata have absolutely no concept of.. indentured servitude, slavery or serfdom. So when the Janalilans left, here was a tall and strong and very, very shy and traumatized 8 year old kid who had fuck all to do, spoke no Sanjata nor any of the languages the Sanjata could speak. Darenya, however, was a very smart and nosy, bookish, know-it-all, and he knew how to speak Janalilan, which all Sasaban people were forced to learn how to speak.
So. That's how Radinta and Darenya meet and become friends. And Abintan and all the Sanjata of the village came to love Radinta, he was helpful, strong, clever and fleet of footing, if not just a bit shy and "Awkward" (In our own world's terms, Radinta is Autistic)
Truth be told, Radinta did not grow up in a good home in Sasaban. Because it is an active occupation, Radinta's mother was miserable, and so was his father, and so were his older 7 brothers. Life was terrible when you had to worry every day if your home was going to fall apart, or fire was going to fall from the sky, or it would rain comets. One would be surprised at what the sorcerers of Janalila were capable of. Radinta's only source of joy was his sister, Aminah, who loved to dance. Most of Sasaban's folklore (that were forbidden to be passed on by law of Janalila) was told through dance, and in the secret holidays of Sasaban, Radinta and Aminah would steal away into the valleys to dance and sing and actually feel like children.
In Sasaban culture, there is a dance that the Sasaban jealously hide, it was about a princess who was said to be stolen away by the diwata, turned into a dancing lamb to protect her from the clutches of a wicked suitor, and Aminah loved and knew this dance by heart, and she taught it to Radinta. (The dance is called Dalisayeng Maliksi/ "Playful Dalisay", it's not a real dance, however it is inspired by a real dance from the southern philippines)
Now. When Darenya was 14, he was in the sundering of Harilunan, and he wanted to impress the Rajah of the court by dancing for them. Darenya was a very talented dancer, but the Rajah was a deeply spoiled and rotten to the bone hedonist, and worldly to the point there was not much they hadn't already seen. So. Radinta, out of his Great Love For His Friend, taught Darenya how to dance Dalisayeng. (There is a very important reason why Radinta agrees to teach Darenya something so holy to him, but I can't say it here because I want people to experience it when actually reading the lord of gentle swords).
Now. Fast forward 8 years later, 1 year after Darenya returns from the dead. He does not go to Radinta. Instead, Darenya wanders around the Six Sunderings, learning as much as he can about the gentle sword, when he chances upon Namwaren, a prince from a great Janalilan family. Darenya uses all his capabilities, all his strength to Seduce Namwaren, including using a peculiar capability to inspire affection from people (one which he has never used before), and Namwaren, also a Hedonist, falls very hard for Darenya, loves the fire in his eyes, the grace in his lithe form, the elegance of which he speaks, and yes, Namwaren takes Darenya to be his bebe de asukal lmfao (I am sorry but this is just how this story works, Namwaren is a fun Slut and he loves bestowing his lovers with all the riches he has under his belt)
Radinta never actually figures out Darenya is alive and THRIVING in Janalila with a hot slampiece until like. A year later. Radinta is in Janalila as a part of a Harilunan envoy, and one day at a very busy marketplace, he sees.. actually he smells something that sort of.. punts him into a memory. Darenya always loved the smell of ground coconut husks and plumeria, and it actually makes Dinta feel sick. Dinta always watches his feet when he walks, because he doesn't like meeting peoples eyes (it's the autism), but he lifts his gaze and he sees a slender boy pulling his hair into a loose sidebraid.. and it was like the entire marketplace just falls into a hush, and there was only this boy with his back to Radinta. He was talking to someone, but Dinta's senses were closed off to the world except this boy. When Darenya died, Dinta himself performed the autopsy. Washed his body in plumeria steeped water, rubbed salves with coconut husks into his skin until it staved the smell of death and made the body smell like his Darenya again (or some semblance of him.)
Yeah. Radinta watches the boy disappear into the distance and he does not feel right for the entire day. He excuses himself, hides into himself, knows he'd seen a ghost.
It would not be until a few days later, when Radinta attends a party hosted by prince Namwaren, when he sees Darenya again.
Prince Namwaren, always a party host NOT to be outshined, promises his guests something they have never seen before.
(Need to remind you guys. They are in the wealthiest city in all of Janalila, and Radinta is from Sasaban- Janalila's colony.)
And their guests sit around in lounging silk and velvet cushions, and the lights are dimmed, and here approaches prince Namwaren's lover, genderless, beautiful, dressed head to toe in royal Janalilan purple. He starts dancing the story of the sasaban princess, who was turned into a lamb, who was hiding from a cruel suitor, with himself as the princess, and Namwaren dancing the part of the prince who would save her. Radinta's eyes were wide when he watched Darenya dance this. No one else could have known that dance that was so precious to the Sasaban. He felt deeply betrayed, sick, sick with longing.
Tumblr media
And Darenya actually had the audacity to spot Radinta in the audience and smile tenderly at him. Radinta could have leapt from the audience, throttled Darenya, slap him into his senses, he could have kissed him everywhere it hurt, stab Darenya and kill Darenya for being needlessly cruel to him, for coming back and not telling him, for aligning himself with their oppressors, but all he could manage to muster was how much he missed Darenya; how much it ached seeing him as he was now. Not knowing if Darenya wanted him too, missed Radinta as desperately as Radinta missed him. Radinta at that time felt his entire life compress into that single point in time, like a star verging into collapse.. and he could not bring himself to understand that this Darenya came back odd. Almost twisted, in a way. Not the boy with dusty hair and tinkering with the knick knacks he found in the ocean washed ashore, not the idealistic boy who loved to chase dragons until his skin was toasted from the baking sun.. no. This Darenya kept his hair in pristine condition, he wore silk robes and painted his eyes and spoke with a forked tongue. He would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. Not the boy Radinta knew, but possessing the same heart that could beckon Dinta into the dark.
Completely understand if you want to leave the mystery around it but I'm Literally Dying to know what's Dinta's reaction to finding out for the first time that Darenya is back from the dead
I need a moment to process first that someone has actually followed what I thought was incoherent rambling about my ocs. I will answer this in a reblog, I need you first to know this ask was like a direct injection of serotonin into my brain

The story is that Namwaren (gray hair wearing red) is a prince of an autonomous region called Ylang Ylang, and he is a member of the most powerful imperial family in the world.. but he's a bit of a rascal and a slut and likes to marry people far below his rank to elevate them.
His court is renowned to be wildly opulent and unfathomably wealthy and degenerate, though it's where the highest form of song and dance and art in general flourish. Namwaren's grandmother is the most powerful matriarch in literally the entire world, and ruler in general (imagine he's like Maria Theresa's eldest grandson)
But one thing about Namwaren is that he sort of despises his grandmother for being a racist colonizer hfjds, and also "Janalila", his grandmother's domain, is a senate, but it's rigged and filled with propaganda so that only members of the royal families tend to win, so Namwaren does everything in his power to annoy and inconvenience her as much as possible. He somehow gets away with marrying an indigenous woman who was a betrayer and a war criminal to save her from the death penalty- and polygamy is legal in Janalila, so he marries other political fugitives and other people far below his rank.
Anyway, Namwaren here is marrying his secretary- ethnically, Namwaren's secretary, Sumakwel, belongs to a marginalized group of diaspora people (I imagine Namwaren is like austronesian-tamil, while Sumakwel is hokkien-speaking Chinese in their character 'coding')
Suryavarman (the priest here with black hair a red headscarf) is a prince in his own right, from a dominion far more antiquated than Janalila, Kalantiaw is known as the oldest dominion in the world, and it is a theocracy, so. The Opposite of Opulent Janalila. Suryavarman is the highest priest of their religion.
So Suryavarman grew up very very disciplined, trained since birth to be a high priest- and he made a pilgrimage to Janalila, only to discover most of the temples to his deity (He worships a virgin death goddess) reappropriated to center a different god (god of pleasure and delight)
Namwaren lives in a palace above the reappropriated temple complex, and he never stops making fun of his royal guest, Suryavarman, Just cuz Namwaren can't fathom the life of total celibacy that he lives. Suryavarman is super meek and mild-mannered, so sulky so he just lets it slide. But many of Namwaren's friends also befriend Suryavarman, they make him question his faith, make him want to "loosen up", and even taunt his biggest bullies (Namwaren and his war criminal wife) back (all in good fun). This is the first time Suryavarman punishes Namwaren for being so smarmy fjsksks. Namwaren knows he works Suryavarman half to death, officiating so many weddings and worshipping ceremonies, that's why he's grinning at Suryavarman here, he's NOT EVIL JFSjfjdK he's just a jerk.
