THE FIRST TIME KRISTOPH had ( tried to ) kill was a waiting game. there was an inherent disgust to be found at the notion of ' riff raff ' speaking his name , with words of a forgery ill-befitting such an honorable and acclaimed lawyer.

dutifully had he swathed the stamp with atroquinine. precise hands made little work , nailbrush embedded with crystal cleanly sweeping a scentless poison beneath commemorative stamp. he harbored no feelings of concern nor apprehension - a profound confidence that this would be nothing more than a father-daughter suicide to hit the news.

was it so wrong of him to kill a family ? one that struggles, one simply trying to make a ( dishonest ) dollar ? was it cruel of him to hand a child a present destined to kill her in due time - in the guise of protection and kindness ? matters of morality were what an attorney were predisposed to ask & yet kristoph lacked the conscience to do so.

( well, such was a false claim. he knew to ask, and yet he did not. he concerned himself with matters of everything in which he had made being collapsed before his feet - if they snitched, if they told the world ' the coolest defense in the west has paid us to forge evidence ! ', then perhaps his ill-intentions were going to go more awry then initially planned. . .

that was all kristoph cared about. of course it was. so what if they had to die ? he would still greet the mishams with kindness. a bottle of wine, even, a token of goodwill. in the festive season, a gift for the youngest daughter. )

yet . . . nothing happened. the next day came, and both child and father continued to breathe.

and the next day came, and so did the next. months, years, even. it was of no issue, atroquinine had a long shelf life. his youngest had opted to frame the stamp, had opted to ramble about kristophs generosity in his ' protection ' in giving her a good luck charm.

what does it matter ? tomorrow will come, and inevitably, a day will arrive where the poison is ingested. kristoph need only wait.

in the meantime does he return to normalcy. bedsheets straightened, fine linen. his hair combed & teeth brushed. he knows to watch that same old historical documentary he favors so much at precisely 10:30 pm, with vongole on his lap, and a glass of something finer in hand.

tomorrow, the tomorrow he wants, will come. he needs only patience.
