Spent the entire day roaming around Nagoya, had an entire itinerary but time just slips by so fast sometimes so we end up spending the afternoon in the public aquarium, riding the ferris wheel and trying to find the best ramen in town (apparently we know better), Legoland is closed today until Thursday for some inexplicable reasons and Nagoya Castle is so-so as per our Uber driver, weather is truly fine and I’ve doubled my move rings today, how’s that for a day?

A3! Translation - Regional Tour Instablam Posts (Summer Troupe)
So I was originally going to do instagram-style tags (i.e. no spaces), but most of the Summer Troupe was writing literal essays in there so it got way too unreadable and I switched it to tumblr-style tags lol
There’s like barely any notes for this one, which is nice considering Citron’s gonna be in the final set

Notes:
1-1. There’s nothing to really note for this one, but Kazunari actually switches back and forth between being really casual and considerably polite here. (meccha kawaikunai?! → itadakimashita → jouzu ♪ → hanaremasen). I have no idea if there’s a reason for that (maybe he’s being playfully polite to the whales??), but the polite parts are basically at the level of formality that Tsuzuru and Tsumugi use in their posts. He also doesn’t do this anywhere else in these posts
1-2. Actually there IS one thing to note, “A+ Fanservice” was actually ファンサ上手 (fansa jouzu) which is literally “great at fanservice”
2. Tenma words this sentence with a billion particles (せっかくだからってことでいるメンバーで来た), which I think is maybe supposed to together imply a tsundere-ish “we went here because the opportunity came up, not because I really wanted to see the tower or anything”? I’m not entirely sure tbh

things that'll make it into the about/other headcanon posts etc I just need them here for safekeeping
I portray Hyoga as being from a fairly large family; he has quite a few siblings, and is actually the second-youngest of the bunch (in order there's Yuuki [deceased], Maki, Mitsukiyo [deceased], Keisuke, Emma [deceased], Hyoga himself, and Sayu)....he isn't the baby that can do no wrong but he is the youngest son and has youngest son privileges.
this man has ibs and cfs & chronic pain issues and does his best today as well
main job is the whole assistant kanryu instructor deal but secondary is volunteer firefighter (part of why he sounds like absolute ass when he talks is from smoke inhalation)
grew up fairly low income and food insecure & this is why his main priority is like, feeding people during canon & why he's easily confused by people "wasting" food on him; tldr he's Going to feed you and that's a Threat. It's also the only form of social interaction he's any good at, aside from teaching people Literal Fucking Combat.
He's not actually touch averse, as seen by the fact that he likes to lean against people, but he is unsure how to go about touching others. He kind of doesn't trust them to let him do that either. For the most part "affection" is him existing in your space.
yes he's a bastard and a hardass but to everyone's surprise he wasn't always (and is kind of seen in a circumstantial vacuum); if it seems like he's "vastly different" in pre-canon timelines and verses based around such, it's for good reason -- he hasn't had the exacerbating circumstances that make the wires fray. He's still not very like, nice. When he talks. But he is different based on when you catch him.
There's 2 NPCs who will be mentioned on here fairly often; Izumi Nakano & Miyu Tennouji. Miyu is his cousin and Izumi is one of the last students who stayed when everyone else left. Izumi is 19 when everything freezes, while Miyu is 20.
Very important here -- Hyoga has selective mutism that didn't really get any "better" in adulthood. He still gets overwhelmed and depletes his social and verbal battery. It takes him time to form sentences and if the manga speech panels are anything to go by, he's extremely quiet and hesitant in his words. When he runs out of his designated word quota, he won't verbally communicate again until he feels like he safely can, usually just relying on sign language, body language, and sort of noncommittal noises. People who knew him before the petrification like Izumi and Miyu are used to this.
Has top surgery scars (specifically double incision scars; is also the guy who went "no thanks" irt the concept of like, having nipples again after) and that's the entire reason he won't put on a shirt. This is one of the sillier pieces of info to go in this list but gotta respect the man's gender euphoria.
Mentioned before but he needs glasses, always has, has always forgotten to wear them. He's farsighted and has astigmatism in his right eye. If he looks mad he's either trying to figure something in the distance out, make out your expression since you're presumably close to him, or...he is just mad. Tends to put things close to his face knowing it won't help.
His mother's family is Japanese-Brazilian; the household is bilingual. Doesn't really bring it up unless asked. Will probably make you feijoada or moqueca de camarao if he trusts you enough, because any dish from home like that is a Level 20 Friendship Moment.
Was really, really upset thinking about what happened to the Nagoya aquarium, but only really told a couple of people about it because he doesn't want to seem weak or like a crybaby. Doesn't realize the fact that he felt extreme emotional distress for fish is actually endearing due to proving he is, in fact, capable of empathy... he's just not good at having it for other people.
Is actually terrified of death on a conceptual level which is sort of why he just flatly refuses to process it. Even when he's inflicting it. This also applies to abject terror of his own death, despite struggling with suicidal ideation at times. (And this is why he can't be told he did, in fact, die once.)

i know this otter! This is most likely Asuka (or maybe Lucky) from the Toba aquarium in the Mie prefecture (south of Nagoya). She is an adult sea otter with many dedicated fans. You can check out this photographer's insta (https://www.instagram.com/masamin01/) for videos of her, Lucky, the other two otters Mei and Kira, and old photos of Royce. JAPAN-2023
Francine and I are in Japan traveling to the cities of Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya and Tokyo. We flew to Osaka and returning home from Tokyo. Even though we are enjoying this experience we are traveling with a heavy heart about the tragedies in Israel.
Japan is the size of California with thousands of islands and primarily inhabited on four major islands. The 125 million population live on only about 10% of the land resulting in high density in the cities.
OSAKA-October 9-13
October 9 - 11 - In Osaka we stayed at the Zentis Hotel (very Zen) and on our first day, October 11, we were greeted by our orientation guide who provided our subway and Shinkansen (Bullet train) passes. Our guide took us to the busy Osaka Station for a “trial run” on the vast metro system. We ended our first metro ride in Dotonbori a popular area with a canal lined with small food stands, restaurants and long arcades with shops selling goods from the kitsch to the “fashion forward.” The area is a feast for the eyes and stomach. We spent the evening on a soul food tour in Dotonbori tasting octopus, grilled and fried meat and fish and a custard pancake. It was an exhausting and enjoyable first day in Japan.
October 12 - 13 - With Google Maps step-by-step guidance we were able to navigate the metro system and our first stop was the Osaka Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world, with its focus on the creatures of the Pacific Rim from the Aleutian Islands in the north to the penguins of Antarctica. From the aquarium we took the metro to the Namba Station. The station is a warren of hallways, at least 30 entrances, lined with eateries and shops while above ground are massive complexes of multi-story department stores, rooftop gardens, hotels and office complexes.
In the evening we walked to Umeda area to a neighborhood Italian restaurant, what else. At our table the server made fresh pasta with a special pasta cutting screen. After dinner we walked to the Umeda Sky Building. This office building is comprised of two separate towers connected by an observation deck on the 40th floor.
On our last day in Osaka we went to the Keitakuen Gardens for a stroll before taking a day long walk, 4 miles, back to our hotel. We took many detours with a view of the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower, along narrow streets, through the Shinshibashi neighborhood, a stop for a bite to eat at the Takashimaya Department Store, of course a gourmet ice cream along the way and a lot of window shopping. We ended the day with a relaxing dinner at our hotel.

Today we left nagoya and went to kii katsura. The bullet train here was absolutely stunning and everyone was fascinated by the japanese countryside. The rainy day definitely fit the mood because today we explored one of the more depressing side of japanese culture. We went to the art exhibit of a japanese american artist and talked to the towns historian. Talking to the historian was one of the most fascinating conversations we've had because I got to learn about the issue of whaling from a japanese point of view and to hear scholars' perspectives on it. It made me realize it is an issue that is the result of the cross section of tradition and modernity. Japan has had a long history of whaling but now in the modern times when modern methods are used to commercialing hunt whales we are seeing questions of morality show up especially in the western stage. I had knew about whaling and was taught to be absolutely against it and to hear the other sides view was extremely interesting and allowed me to open my mind more. Going to the taiji whale museum as well which was known for its animal cruelty was interesting to see the issue first hand. From what I have seen I could understand why people would be extremely upset over it but it didn't seem extremely different from other aquariums I have seen. Actually I thought the animals looked much more happier and friendly which left me stuck in the middle. Even though i felt some of the cruelty in taiji I did honestly feel a lot of friendliness from the people and honestly enjoyed the museum and seeing the animals up close and personal. I feel like I would need to do more research to make a conclusion but still overall I think it was a great experience to show that issues are always that straightforward and are far more complicated. Afterwards we went to the onsen hotel on an island and it is the most beautiful places i've ever stayed. The hotel room is a traditional Japanese tatami room overlooking a breathtaking cove which is the most stunning view I've ever seen from my hotel room. We all dressed in yukata and went down for a delicious dinner where I ate the best fresh tuna I've had in my life. Afterwards we went to the onsen which was half outside and such a once in a lifetime experience. Going into the onsen was something that was way out of my comfort zone but i am so glad I overcame that anxiety and got to immerse myself in that environment. I ended the night by staring at the crashing waves outside the hotel window and wanted to cry from utter happiness.

"Yeah, it's cursed, I know." He's gesturing at the pamphlet the other has -- a dinky, small Nagoya aquarium brochure, likely procured from a grocery store: the other had, hilariously, flipped past the part about penguin feedings and right to the part about what restaurants and snack places are in the area. He's used to this reaction, but not to the face like the other had eaten a lemon raw. (He can guess what caused it, though.) "They shouldn't have a Red Lobster there, but someone had a horrible sense of humor." › @2niwaka
some decisions were awful- bruno was well aware of that, and this one made that list. his first thought, of course, was whether or not the restaurant was getting its supply of lobster from the aquarium itself- and surely he couldn't have been the only one who had ever thought about that! he's dense, but not completely unobservant- “ it's a bad call, really- i mean, a funny call, but bad- ”
really, it's funnier than it should be. it's darker than it should be- but he's used to that, isn't he? “ a part of me wants to pop in if i get a chance to go to the aquarium- ”
“ even if only to tell everyone how cursed it is. people need to pay attention to what sort of restaurants they put where! but, i'm not sure if i was expecting anything else, honestly- ”
