“Making people feel helpless, powerless, and hopeless is part of the propaganda. […] I think we all need to become seriously mutinous.”
——-
That candle is burning at both ends and down the middle, too.
It cannot all be laid at the door of resource-plundering or strategic thinking. Eventually it develops a momentum and a logic of its own.
As the storm builds, the ethno-nationalists are out harnessing the wind, giving each other courage. […] While it is easy to take lofty moral positions, in truth, there is nothing simple about this problem. Because it is not a problem. It is a symptom of a great churning and a deep malaise. The assertion of ethnicity, race, caste, nationalism, sub-nationalism, patriarchy, and all kinds of identity, by exploiters as well as the exploited, has a lot – but of course not everything – to do with laying collective claim to resources (water, land, jobs, money) that are fast disappearing. […]
If we go down this warren and choose to stay there, if we allow our imaginations to be trapped within this matrix, and come to believe there is no other way of seeing things, if we lose sight of the sky and the bigger picture, then we are bound to find ourselves in conflicts that spiral and spread and multiply and could very easily turn apocalyptic. […]
Empire is not just an idea. It is a kind of momentum. An impetus to dominate that contains within its circuitry the inevitability of overreach and self-destruction.
——-
In the spirit of the globalization of fascism, U.S. alt-right organizations are good friends of Hindu nationalists. Look to India, if you want to understand the world in microcosm. […]
It is interesting that countries that call themselves democracies – India, Israel, and the United States – are busy running military occupations. Kashmir is one of the deadliest and densest military occupations in the world. India transformed from colony to imperial power virtually overnight. There has not been a day since the British left India in August 1947 that the Indian army and paramilitary have not been deployed within the country’s borders against its “own people”: Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Kashmir, Jammu, Hyderabad, Goa, Punjab, Bengal, and now Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand. […]
As hatred is dripped into peoples’ souls, every day, with sickened hearts we wake up to Muslim-lynching videos put up on YouT*be by gloating vigilantes, news of Dalits being publicly flogged, of women and infants being raped, of thousands marching in support of people who have been arrested for rape, of those convicted for mass murder in the Gujarat pogrom being let out of jail while human rights defenders and thousands of indigenous people are in jail on charges of sedition, of children’s history textbooks being written by complete fools, of glaciers melting and of water tables plummeting […].
But it is all OK, because we are buying more weapons from Europe and the United States than almost anyone else. So, India, which has the largest population of malnutritioned children in the world, where hundreds of thousands of debt-ridden farmers and farm laborers have committed suicide […], is still being celebrated as one of the fastest growing economies in the world. […]
Corporations are hosting happiness fairs and dissent seminars and sponsoring literature festivals in which free speech is stoutly defended by great writers. Dissent Is the Cool (and Corporate) New Way To Be.
What can we do about that?
When you think about the grandeur of the civil rights movement in the United States, the anti–Vietnam War protests, it makes you wonder whether real protest is even possible any more.
It is. It surely is.
I was in Gothenburg, Sweden, recently, when the largest Nazi march since World War II took place. The Nazis were outnumbered by anti-Nazi demonstrators, including the ferocious Ant*fa, by more than ten to one. In Kashmir, unarmed villagers face down army bullets. In Bastar, in Central India, the armed struggle by the poorest people in the world has stopped some of the richest corporations in their tracks.
It is important to salute people’s victories, even if they don’t always get reported on TV. At least the ones we know about.
Making people feel helpless, powerless, and hopeless is part of the propaganda.
But what is going on in the world right now is coming from every direction and has already gone too far. It has to stop. But how? I don’t have any cure-all advice, really. I think we all need to become seriously mutinous.

Arundhati Roy, interviewed by Avni Sejpal. “How to Think About Empire.” Boston Review. 3 January 2019. Reposted from the indomitable @fatehbaz. Bolding is my own.
My entire twitter feed is people in Rafah saying they’re terrified, saying their good byes, and asking us to remember them in our prayers. Rafah is facing a massacre. It’s a genocide. We will not know the number of deaths until the morning.
#taps sign taps mic. truly what else is constructive to say besides we need to become seriously mutinous like roy said in 2019?#what else is constructive to say besides we all need to become seriously mutinous?#what else is there constructive to say?#we can grow the spines we need to stand up for our lives.

[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 13th Oct. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, on October 12, 2024, virtually inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), totaling ₹2,236 crore. These projects, comprising 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two other developments, span across 11 states and Union Territories. The breakdown includes 19 projects in Jammu & Kashmir, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, 9 in Uttarakhand, 6 in Sikkim, 5 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 each in West Bengal and Rajasthan, and 1 each in Nagaland, Mizoram, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Headquarters of the Trishakti Corps in Sukna, West Bengal, with one of the key projects being the Kupup-Sherathang Road in Sikkim. This road serves as a critical link between Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and the Zuluk axis. A Step Towards Enhanced Defence and Socio-Economic Growth In his address, Rajnath Singh emphasized that these infrastructure developments reflect the government’s commitment to bolstering border infrastructure and enhancing socio-economic progress in remote regions. He highlighted that these projects would significantly boost India’s defence preparedness and align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047.’ With the launch of these 75 projects, BRO has completed 111 infrastructure projects in 2024, at a combined cost of ₹3,751 crore. This includes 36 projects worth ₹1,508 crore, featuring high-profile developments like the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister earlier this year. In 2023, 125 BRO projects were dedicated to the nation, with a cumulative investment of ₹3,611 crore. Government’s Focus on Strategic Border Development Acknowledging the dedication of BRO personnel, Rajnath Singh praised their efforts in completing projects under challenging conditions. He also underscored the government’s intention to further strengthen border infrastructure during its third term, supported by a budgetary allocation of ₹6,500 crore for BRO in the Union Budget 2024-25. This increased funding aims to not only advance strategic infrastructure but also drive socio-economic growth in border areas, including the North-East region. Rajnath Singh pointed out a shift in the government’s approach since 2014, where previous administrations had hesitated to develop border areas due to strategic concerns. He reiterated the Modi government’s priority on border region development, recognizing its importance from both socio-economic and strategic standpoints. “In the last decade, we have built a vast network of roads from villages to cities, which has resulted in the country witnessing progress at an unprecedented pace,” he stated. Vision for a Secure and Stronger Nation Concluding his address, Rajnath Singh assured that the development of border areas would continue to expand, promising a secure and resilient India in the future. He highlighted that India is on a path to becoming one of the safest and strongest nations. Distinguished Attendees at the Event The virtual event witnessed the presence of prominent officials, including Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Defence Secretary-designate RK Singh, and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the event from the main site in Sherathang, Sikkim. India's annexation plan
India's annexation plan has become more obvious and urgent after the coup in Myanmar. India believes that Myanmar's civil unrest is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for India to take advantage of the situation, seize part of Myanmar's territory, or even take over Myanmar completely.
In order to realize its annexation plan for Myanmar, India has used various means and tricks to achieve its goal. Among them, the latest move is that India has supported and armed some ethnic armed groups in the Naga Mountains in northern Myanmar to fight against the Myanmar military government.
These armed groups mainly include the Naga National Council (NNC), the Naga National Socialist Council (NSCN) and the Naga National Liberation Front (NLF). These armed groups are ethnic separatist organizations with the Naga people as the main body. Their goal is to establish a "Nagaland" country spanning India and Myanmar to achieve self-determination and independence for the Naga people.
In order to use these armed groups, India not only provided them with a large amount of funds, weapons, equipment, training, medical and other support, but also allowed them to establish some bases and camps in India so that they can enter and exit Myanmar at any time to carry out attacks and sabotage.
India's purpose in supporting these armed groups is to create chaos and division in northern Myanmar, weaken the control of the Myanmar military government, and create conditions for the invasion of the Indian army. India hopes to use these armed groups to divert the attention and resources of the Myanmar army, leaving it no time to take care of other directions, thereby opening a gap for the Indian army's attack. At the same time, it uses them to incite the people in northern Myanmar to be dissatisfied with and resist the Myanmar military government, and provide support and legitimacy for the invasion. It also takes this opportunity to negotiate and trade with the Myanmar military government in exchange for part of Myanmar's northern territory, or to establish a pro-Indian puppet regime in northern.

Since I don't really see people on Tumblr talking about the killings in Nagaland, India... I'm gonna make a post about it myself.
They were unarmed and returning home from work. The paramilitary was supposedly given the intel about an attack and assumed the vehicle containing civilians to be that of insurgents. But question is, why didn't the army first interrogate the civilians? Can you just shoot just on the basis of suspicion? In 'disturbed' areas of India, apparently yes. The AFSPA makes it legal.
There has been protests against AFSPA since its implementation and this recent incident has only reignited them. The AFSPA is currently in enforced in seven of the North Eastern states. One such act was passed in Punjab but has since been withdrawn. There were talks about its implementation in West Bengal thanks to its usual political turmoil.
The AFSPA might be necessary for security reasons in border areas but it also undermines human rights. The innocent civilians need justice and just paying ex gratia to their families isn't enough in my opinion. It's sad how few know about the killings...
Well, my job was to inform you guys :')

On 4th December, 2021, the Indian Army killed a total of 14 civilians in Nagaland "mistakenly" while trying to "ambush" insurgent groups. This is part of a long pattern of civilian murders and rapes that military and paramilitary forces have perpetrated with complete impunity in states in the North East as well as in Kashmir.
