Hiii Shanie! (is that what I should call you? 🤔) I'm the guest from ao3 that sent you that long ass comment 😆😅
Just wanted to start of by saying how extremely sweet it was of you to do this and also how much I appreciated you taking the time out not once but twice to write back! Tbh yes my dumbass did not realise what "noodle incident" meant till you explained it so thank you for that 😊 clearly I'm a bit new to all of this. 😅
Honestly I'm extremely late to the party. I discovered zowens only a little after they won their tag titles last year. I had no idea who they were before that. I took a break from wrestling for about 13 years and only got back into it by accident because of Sami, then Kevin, then zowens. I was switching channels and stubbled upon zowens who happened to be on screen at the time.
So I've had to go back and do a bit of digging and now and then I'll find something that everyone already knew about yearsss ago 🙄😂 and I'll get all excited over it, but everyone else has already been there done that 😂 (also absolutely no one I know likes wrestling or really even knows about it 😭)
I know I've missed out on a LOT with these two (their "glory days") 😭 and I get only glimpses of the past here and there, but I guess as they say better late than never 😁 So I'm enjoying your stories so so much. It's pretty incredible the way you write and the journey you take us on through it.
Ta
🐨
PS. the draft this week..zowens..😌
Hello again, nonnie!
Glad you could make it!
I was hoping to hear from you. This mess of business with AO3. Bleh. Hope they get it straightened out soon.
First off, don’t feel bad for not knowing what “noodle incident” meant. I don’t know if a ton of people do these days. TV Tropes as a website has sort of fallen into obscurity in the past decade or so and that’s where I got the term from. Looking it up, the definition on the site (found HERE) apparently comes from Calvin and Hobbes. Of note: The way I use the term isn’t exactly correct because I have explained the pneumonia incident a little, and will do so in upcoming writing more, but I use the term improperly anyway because it makes sense to me.
Regardless, stay tuned for more info about the pneumonia incident! I will warn you though, the current story it’s being written into, “Never Say Goodbye”, is VERY dark. I’m probably going to have to up the rating on it. I use my writing as therapy and I’m going through some stuff right now, so this is how it is manifesting. Hope this doesn’t make you or anyone else hate me, but just know that writing it is helping me cope with my pain and getting me to a better place.
So yeah. Forgive me.
Second, don’t feel bad about just discovering Zowens in 2023. Some of the best people just discovered Zowens in 2023! I don’t know how much of last year you’ve managed to see but there is a fair amount of stuff just between summer of 2022 and fall of 2023 that is epic. If you haven’t gotten to explore it yet, I recommend starting HERE. It’s an episode of The KO Show from back in May of 2022 that planted the seeds of the entire Zowens storyline that would go on to them becoming tag champions. That said, as another video reference, that episode of the KO Show would actually be followed up on in August 2022 to properly start the storyline... in a post-show segment after Smackdown in Montreal. Finding video of that post-show segment can be difficult, but HERE is a fan video that has most of the encounter, minus the section that involved Matt Riddle (and the Zowens hug he spurs on)
Really though, if I had to offer some key highlights, just in WWE, I’d recommend the last ten minutes or so of NXT’s R-Evolution PPV, their match at Battleground 2016 (DEFINITELY Key viewing), The very end of Hell In A Cell 2017 (and the Zowens segment from the next episode of Smackdown), the 10/31/2020 episode of Talking Smack, The leadup and immediate aftermath of their WrestleMania 37 match, the clips I linked above from May and August 2022, Royal Rumble 2023 main event (OMG THAT), and most of all, the ENTIRTY of the 3/17/23 episode of Smackdown which, telling you now, as a Zowens shipper was like a friggin fever dream the night it happened. Cannot understate how that was some Joker Origin Story stuff that night, but the payoff was AMAZING.
All that said? Like Kevin said at WrestleMania 37. They met, at this point, almost 22 years ago, and the journey has been nuts. If you want a good, easy-to-absorb rundown of those 22 years or so, I highly recommend Mithen’s substack Ring the Bell. It has so much information that starts from the beginning and goes step by step along the path. They’re writing a book too! Keep an eye out for that.
Anyway, it’s great to see you here and if you need any more tips about how to dig further into the story, let me know. I know you said “Their glory days” but the truth is, in their own words, they’re “Destined to do this forever” and the glory days aren’t over yet. The story has been going on for over 2 decades but it hasn’t ended yet and I don’t believe it ever will. The Sami and Kevin show, and by extension, The Kevin Steen and El Generico show, will never end.
Over 20 years and counting. Long live Zowens/Steenerico
Enjoy the ride.

Things to look forward to in women's wrestling this week!
spoilers below the cut for shows/events listed above!
Notable news & results from TV last week:

Zoey Stark defeated Candice LeRae. Nikki Cross may have accidentally cost Candice the match. match length-2:30.
SmackDown Women's Champion Rhea Ripley issued a challenge to Natalya for Night of Champions.
Raquel Rodriguez defeated Sonya Deville. After the match, Sonya and Chelsea Green attacked Raquel, until Shotzi came to her aid. It was later revealed that Shotzi will be Raquel's tag team partner next week in the match to crown the new women's tag team champions. match length-1:55.
Becky Lynch & WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus signed the contract for their match at Night of Champions, making the match official.
NXT (5/23):
NXT Women's Championship Tournament Semifinals: Lyra Valkyria defeated Cora Jade. Lyra advances to the finals at NXT Battleground. She will face the winner of Roxanne Perez vs. Tiffany Stratton. match length-3:41.
After Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne had some harsh words for each other, the third match in the trilogy between the former best friends was made official for next week on NXT: a weaponized steel cage match.
NXT Women's Championship Tournament Semifinals: Tiffany Stratton defeated Roxanne Perez. Tiffany advances to the finals at NXT Battleground. She will face Lyra Valkyria. match length-9:39.
After the match, Roxanne was taken out by someone in a black hoodie.

Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi defeated Bayley & Iyo Sky of Damage CTRL. Raquel pinned Bayley after a miscommunication between Bayley and Iyo. match length-9:06.
Bianca cut a promo, where she talked about how she respected this new side of Asuka, but how she wasn't happy with Asuka interrupting her celebration a few weeks ago and misting her twice. Asuka came out and attacked Bianca from behind, before officials separated the two.
Notable news & results from PPVs last week:
Night of Champions (5/27):
Trish Stratus defeated Becky Lynch. This was the first time Trish had a one on one match since 2019. She was victorious after an assist from Zoey Stark, who aligned herself with the hall of famer. match length-14:50.
Asuka defeated Bianca Belair to become the new Raw Women's Champion. With this title win, Asuka is now a 3 time Raw Women's Champion. This victory also marks Asuka's 6th singles title win in WWE, and her 9th title win in WWE overall. match length-15:00.

AEW Double or Nothing (5/28):
Toni Storm defeated Jamie Hayter to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion. With this win, Toni becomes the first ever two time AEW Women's World Champion. match length-3:05.
Jade Cargill defeated Taya Valkyrie to retain the TBS Championship. This victory marks Jade's 25th successful defense of the title since defeating Ruby Soho to become the inaugural champion. She is still undefeated, and extends her spotless record to 60-0. match length-8:45.
After the match, Jade issued an open challenge for the belt, which led to...
Kris Statlander defeated Jade Cargill to become the new TBS Champion. Kris has been sidelined since September of 2022 when she suffered a torn ACL. She returned tonight to end Jade's undefeated streak, and her victory marks the first time the TBS Championship has ever changed hands. match length-0:50.
Other news & updates from last week:
Dakota Kai underwent surgery for her torn ACL on Tuesday, May 23. She is expected to be out of action for 8-9 months as she recovers from the surgery. It's worth noting that the 6-9 month recovery time previously reported for her injury is highly optimistic, and a torn ACL can sometimes take up to a year to recover from.
It is also worth mentioning that WWE has yet to release any sort of statement regarding Dakota's injury, and has not made any comments on her status beyond passing remarks made by commentators on Raw and SmackDown last week.
On Tuesday, May 23, PWInsider reported that the shoulder injury sustained by Liv Morgan is potentially a torn rotator cuff. It is unclear whether or not she will need surgery, but either way she will be out for a period of time. WWE sources told Fightful that they expect Liv to be sidelined at least through the summer (reported by Fightful Select on Friday, May 26).
Also reported by Fightful Select, Jamie Hayter's injuries are legitimate, and she has been battling them for the better part of a month. There was some concern that she would not be medically cleared to compete at Double or Nothing.
New Japan Pro Wrestling released a statement on Thursday, May 25, confirming that Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks) sustained an ankle injury during the main event of NJPW Resurgence on Sunday, May 21.
During the AEW Double or Nothing media call on Thursday, May 25, Tony Khan said that he believes that Stardom could help AEW, and could potentially end up appearing on Forbidden Door.
While she hasn't been featured on WWE TV in quite some time, Tegan Nox has been working matches on WWE Main Event the past couple of weeks. Notably, she has been playing a heel (or at least heel-leaning) role in these recent appearances.
Trinity (fka Naomi) had her first PPV match with Impact Wrestling this past Friday, May 26 at Under Siege, where she defeated Gisele Shaw.
As announced on Sunday, May 28 during NXT Battleground, the next NXT premium live event will be NXT: The Great American Bash, which will take place on Sunday, July 30.
Tay Melo announced that she and Sammy Guevara are expecting their first child.
At the AEW Double or Nothing media scrum, new AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm talked about how winning the title felt more special this time around, as it was for the undisputed title rather than an interim championship.
Also at the media scrum, new TBS Champion Kris Statlander talked about how she kept her return under wraps because she wanted it to be a special moment.
NXT Battleground media call notes:
There's interest in bringing Blair Davenport over to NXT in an official capacity, and NXT has reached out to her. But Michaels said that it's up to Davenport to make the decision about if and when she wants to make the jump on a full-time basis.
HBK noted that there were plans for Indi Hartwell at NXT Battleground prior to her injury and main roster call up. He mentioned that they were excited to see her capture the moment at Stand & Deliver and had hoped for a potentially long reign, but NXT was thrown a curveball when she got injured, and then she was drafted to Raw.
When asked about adding a second women's singles title to NXT, HBK said that he's super proud of the NXT women's division. He isn't sure how a second singles title for the women's division would fit into the brand, but he does play around with the idea. He mentioned that the NXT women's locker room is very young right now, and he doesn't know if there are people prepared to take on that role if a secondary title were to be created.
When asked for an update on the NXT Women's Tag Team Titles, Michaels says they hope to have Isla and Alba in NXT, but he believes their focus is on the main roster right now. He does believe they will come back to NXT to defend the titles sometime.
Speaking on the NXT Women's Championship tournament finals, HBK said that Lyra and Tiffany come from different backgrounds. He mentioned the prominent success that Lyra had in NXT UK, and said that her transition to the states has been fantastic to see. He also mentioned that Tiffany has been getting better and better with each match.
Michaels gave credit to Sara Amato for her work with the NXT women's division at the PC. He also said that he believes NXT has the strongest women's division in the country.
notes via @/itsellajay on twitter, who covered the call for Fightful.
Things to look forward to this week:
After being vacated a couple of weeks ago, new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions will be crowned tonight, May 29, on Raw. The teams of Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, Bayley & Iyo Sky, and Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green will compete in a fatal four way match for the vacant titles.
Also on Raw tonight, qualifying matches for the Money in the Bank ladder matches begin. Reminder: Money in the Bank takes place on Saturday, July 1 at the O2 Arena in London.
On NXT tomorrow night, May 30, Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne go one on one for a third time. And this time, it's a weaponized steel cage match.
Also on NXT tomorrow, the identity of the person who has been attacking various members of the NXT women’s division will be revealed. This mystery attacker most recently took out Roxanne Perez on last week’s NXT after Perez was defeated by Tiffany Stratton in the semifinals of the NXT Women’s Championship tournament.
This week on AEW Dynamite, Britt Baker & Adam Cole will team up to take on Saraya & Chris Jericho.
The first women's Money in the Bank qualifying match on the SmackDown side will take place this Friday, June 2. LWO member Zelina Vega will go one on one with Lacey Evans, with a spot in the ladder match on the line.

My Highlights from AEW Double or Nothing 2023
We did Night of Champions now it's AEW's turn to do the big PPV. While people will say it wasn't built well (something they said last year if I recall) there's a lot of potentially great wrestling matches on the card, so let's see how it went down on the night and list out the positives.
Note: because of growing disinterest and lack of time on my bank holiday I won't be doing NXT Battleground that aired at the same time, sorry about that
Spoilers for the PPV
Buy-In
Paul Wight looking to Stokely when Renee said the 'biggest big man', their rapport was great too we could put them as a commentary team...if we still had Dark/Elevation
RJ's interview with Arn was funny too
The Gunns didn't have the same music but I do like that they kept the spotlight entrance
Gonna sound weird, but it's good to see HOOK sell, of course doing several squashes can help you grow a reputation but if you can't sell you're only doing half the work
It's smart that the Owen is finishing in Calgary this year, I wonder who is in it though
Main Show
Kip going straight for OC is clever and fits continuity, also it was smart that Bandido made the save given his affiliation with Best Friends
Swerve waiting on the outside too is smart
Brian Cage's run against the Luchadors were fun, reminded me of his Lucha Underground days
Trent sacrificing himself for OC
I had Jay winning but Ricky eliminating Jay was well done
The final sequence of the battle royale was great, need a proper Swerve vs OC match, the final move is hilarious as well, perfectly on brand
And I'm not upset that OC retained, because as much as this would've protected OC, whoever takes it from his exhausted bruised flavedo deserves to do it 1 on 1
Sabu's role was mercifully brief, mainly designed to remove the JAS
Britt getting some revenge on Jericho and Saraya with the Kendo Shots
Clever of Jericho to shift into a choke with the chain when he missed the Judas Effect
Mark Briscoe's ref outfit
The pop for Sonjay getting ejected
Also the heat for Karen hitting Aubrey, you don't hit Aubrey!
It was good story payoff too that Jarrett snapping on Mark was his own downfall
Tease of Bullet Club vs FTR?
Saraya and Jericho actually gel really well
Christian back with his turtleneck, it always puts a smile on my face
The final third of the ladder match was well done, it was a good adlib from the broken ladder incident too
Dang Julia
The Dominik burn by the Acclaimed's rap
Jade's entrance was impressive too
I don't think it was a Sit-out Blue Thunder Bomb (looked almost like an Olympic Slam/Powerbomb to me) but whatever it was I thought it was cool
STATLANDER'S BACK!
STATLANDER BEAT JADE!
Congrats to Tay and Sammy as well, explains why we hadn't seen Tay in-ring either
Darby's video before his entrance was hilarious too
And that attire, half bones, half Elvis, perfection
The orchestral MJF entrance with the descending throne too was on brand extra from Max
MJF's dialogue before being hit is still humorous
And his pop-up Powerbomb/Backbreaker is still meaty as fuck
The mentor finisher reference too was a great spot
Also Sammy tricking Max by laying down, saw it coming but still a clever move
The pinning sequences spot too
A clever finish to a great match too, Darby thwarted by JB and then Max, JB thwarted by his own indecision, Sammy thwarted by Darby but Max once again seals it with a headlock takeover
If there was any doubt that the Four Pillars match wouldn't rock, that doubt is now silenced
SHIT'S ABOUT TO HIT THE FAN
Irony of Vegas singing Kansas too
It's not Anarchy in the Arena if the match starts while Wild Thing is still going
Danielson was slid down the stair railing
Rick Knox is even blading!
And the Bucks Superkick the singer XD
Mox going full CZW with the fork
Piledriver in the back of a car
Moxley and Yuta doing the same move that lost them the last Anarchy in the Arena was a clever move that went under the radar
EXPLODING SUPERKICK!?
Claudio doing the crab walk with Yuta on his shoulder
Conclusion
It was not perfect, but thanks to the double main event the show ended up being a good one. I'm of course irked by some things; Takeshita heel turn (he's too pure for that Tony!), Jamie losing in what was essentially a sprint, and the finish of the Unsanctioned Match (if AEW is not responsible for the harm caused by the competitors why is there a ref stoppage?), but the lows are outweighed by the good. We had some exciting twists that did reignite the crowd when they got quiet and both the Four Pillars and Anarchy in the Arena matches were as advertised.
My hope is that we find directions for the likes of Taya, Acclaimed, and many of the Battle Royal competitors, which Collision may manage to cater towards, but I can honestly say while it wasn't a great PPV, it was still worth the money, and I had more fun watching this than I did Night of Champions by a fair margin.
Match of the Night: Tough to call but I'm gonna go with the Four Pillars Four-Way over Anarchy in the Arena, Take my boy why you gotta be heel? And not even BCC Heel you gotta be Don Callis Heel!? I would've preferred betrayed heel Dark Order tbf not the Cinnabon man! Best Entrance: Entrances don't get used too often which is why I tend to omit it but since we had 6 unique entrances in this show I'm picking Jade Cargill Best Attire: I feel fine about picking Jade for Best Entrance because Darby wins best attire for me with the Elvis/Skeleton suit Best Performance: Four Pillars tie, they all just did so well Spot of the Night: Exploding Superkick by Matt

Wild Weekend in Pro Wrestling + New Champions Crowned
We had quite the Memorial Day Weekend 2023 as new champions were crowned in various promotions.
Starting off with WWE's "Night of Champions 2023" Event, two new champions were crowned (pictured above) as Seth Rollins becomes the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion since December 2013 while Asuka ended Bianca Belair's 420 reign to become the new RAW Women's champion.
The next night, at NXT's Battleground; a new NXT Women's Champion was crowned as Tiffany Stratton defeated Lyra Valkyria to become the champion after the previous champion (Indi Hartwell) was forced to vacate the title due to being promoted to the main roster.
Switching to Stardom's "Flashing Champions" event, in 4 championship matches, 3 new ones were crowned. Saki Kashima defeated both reigning High Speed Champion AZM (pronounced Azumi) and Oedo Tai stablemate Fukigen Death to become the new High Speed Champion. New Artist of Stardom champions were crowned as Giulia, Thelka, and Mai Sakurai defeated the reigning team of KAIRI, Natsupoi, and Saori Anou. This was the first defense of the reigning champions that ended in defeat. And then in the main event for double gold, Tam Nakano becomes the new Wonder of Stardom Champion over Mina Shirakawa while retaining her World of Stardom Championship. The result of the main event has caused some mixed reactions from fans. Some positive, some negative. Since I don't watch Stardom, can't really tell how they feel but truly understand their feelings. Mina Shirakawa's time was now and instead, they went with Tam Nakano.
Over in NJPW, we finish up the "Best of the Super Jr. 30" Tournament as both Master Wato and Titan collide in a classic bout to determine who is the Best Junior in NJPW. As pictured above it is Master Wato who not only defeated Titan but in the process became the youngest Japanese Best of Super Jr winner at the age of 26.
(Not Pictured) Lastly, at AEW's Double or Nothing, a big reign came to an end. Jade Cargill has been the TBS Champion since the title's creation and on May 28, 2023 her reign came to an end as Kris Statlander defeated Jade Cargill to become the new TBS Champion. Also, due to injury an new AEW Women's Champion was crowned as Toni Storm took advantage of whatever's been going on with Jamie Hayter to become the new champion.
Impact Wrestling was the only company that had a Memorial Day weekend event where every champion retained their titles.
Again...this was quite the Memorial Day weekend that many will remember for a long time.
