Funeral Suits (Alternative) Music Review
Funeral Suits (Alternative) When this band took the stage, any assumptions about traditional Irish music went right out the window. Their first song confirmed what their punky/rock clothing said, as it was hardcore alternative. Stylistically, they were reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails, or Marilyn Manson, but with a uniqueness to their sound. The inclusion of keyboards added depth, and sometimes…

Every time I dig deep enough for music I find something worth digging for #musicmoney chats to Toronto outfit @bareminimumband about their new EP
Where are you from?
Toronto.
Describe your sound:
A mix of Minor Threat and Nicolas Cage.
Tell us about your latest track:
'Safe Bet' is the first track off our upcoming EP 'Where the Buses Don't Come'. It's the shortest and weirdest song we've ever done. It takes queues from SNFU, Vultures United, and early-AFI but mixes it up with riffs I think I stole from the Wizard of Oz.
It does a good job setting the tone of the record: heavy, hard, and strange. A lot of the songs on the new EP were written deliberately to break away from some of the stale genre conventions we've been boxed into.
Lyrically, we try to keep a sense of humour while still talking about serious subjects. I always loved it when bands like The Adicts, DEVO, or They Might Be Giants would drive home a point with absurdist humour rather than a pointed finger.
Who inspires you?
Lately it's been a lot of under the radar bands we find through playing shows or reviewing on our blog. I don't believe in looking too far away for your idols. Somewhere tonight the next Jawbreaker is playing some basement show no one is attending, I try to get myself to these things. Every time I dig deep enough for music, I find something worth digging for.
Where do you see your career in 5 years?
Drowning in an ocean of lawsuits with all the other bands named 'Bare Minimum'.
Where can we check out your sounds?
Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, dive bars around Toronto, and Russian torrent sites.
Tell us something about yourself that the people need to know:
One of us has Smash Mouth lyrics tattooed on their body.
The Bare Minimum are a Toronto punk band in the tradition of S.N.F.U, Propagandhi, and Belvedere with SNES inspired riffs and a self-heckling sense of humour. Their wide musical range, from thrash ragers to acoustic scream-a-longs, is threaded together by their frantically catchy hooks. Somewhere between irony and nihilism, The Bare Minimum subvert pop songs into meditations on bar culture, boredom, and scene politics.
'Where the Buses Don't Come' is The Bare Minimum's follow up EP to the 2017 full-length 'Sink to the Top'. Ripping through 7 songs in under 15 minutes, 'Where the Buses Don't Come' stands as their rawest and most intense offering. 'Where the Buses Won't Come' was produced by Devon Lougheed (SuperBonBon Sound/Altered By Mom), and recorded at Marquee Sound Studio.
Besides haunting basement bars and house parties, The Bare Minimum have played CMW, NXNE, Pouzza Fest and toured Ontario in a hilariously tiny car.
