Thinkpad Yoga 2021, Buying Guidance
It's a banner year for Thinkpad Yoga devices, with a lot of keen changes. The Thinkpad products I've been wanting to see for years, are starting to appear.
As always, my buying advise includes the following:
Lurk the Lenovo website for coupons, and sales. They run all the time, but there is often a day or two where a sale, and a coupon, overlap.
Upgrade the Warranty. I've had to make a dozen warranty calls to Lenovo, for myself, and other folks, and having an upgraded warranty on a Thinkpad makes a big difference. The warranty service is always good in my experience, but it can be amazing for a little more.
This year, get the RAM you want, installed at the time of purchase. The new Intel SoC for a lot of products has a the RAM soldered, and can't be upgraded later.
Lenovo has really embraced Linux compatibility of late. You almost don't even need to check with Thinkpads anymore, they are going to be compatible, fit, and ready to go. Many can be ordered to ship with Linux already on board.
Let’s dig in!
X1 Yoga Gen 6 (14" Intel)
The highlights here are a 16:10 aspect ratio for the display, rechargeable Lenovo Integrated Pen, on board in a silo, Intel Iris Xe Graphics (finally, you guys, finally), and up to 32 GB of RAM (also, finally!). 11th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 Processors, 1145G7, 1135G7, 1165G7, 1185G7, are top performers in realm of UltraBook ULV options. Depending on your region, there will be 4G / 5G LTE WANN options. Also, there is a 57Wh battery that supports rapid charge with a 65W Adapter.
Those display options though:
14" UHD+ 4K (3840 x 2400) IPS, anti-reflection, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Dolby Vision™, HDR400, 500 nits, 90% DCI P3 Color Gamut, TÜV Rheinland-certified for reduced blue light emissions
14" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen with Privacy Guard, 500 nits
14" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen, 400 nits, TÜV Rheinland-certified for reduced blue light emissions
Those options are according to the website, where the PSREF lists four options, one with 100% DCI P3 Color Gamu, and 1500:1 Contrast Ratio. I'll try to get some clarity on that. All have 100% sRGB Anti-Glare, or Anti-Reflective glass treatments, and so forth. I have a Lenovo Yoga product with a UHD 4K Display, and one with a Low-Power FHD display. For working with home, I like the Low-Power because I can make it dim in a dark room. The 500 nit HDR displays can't be turned down enough to be comfortable for my eyes. Awesome in a bright office, or outdoor environment, not great for working from your couch.
Tumblr media
Aluminum chassis, top and bottom, AND Lenovo seems to be getting aluminum anodizing and milling down to a fine science. Normally, aluminum products, made by anyone, are kinda sloppy with seams and fit being a little off. The last few recent Lenovo devices with aluminum chassis have been really good. Good enough to not set off my OCD.
As I write this, there is no build your own option for this model, because they just released it recently.
L13 Yoga Gen 2 (Intel)
If you owned an S1 Yoga (the first Thinkpad Yoga), way back in 2013, and loved it, you'll really like the L13 Yoga Gen 1, or Gen 2. They have the same case color, feel, pen-silo placement, and so forth. The Gen 2 does have an option for Integrated Intel Iris X Graphics, with the 11th Gen G7 SoC. A Thunderbolt 4 port has been added to the Gen 2, and it has a MicroSD card reader, which I really appreciate having. Keyboard on these feels deep and nice, even compared to more expensive Thinkpad Yoga products.
Tumblr media
The display option, battery life, and so forth are very last year, but I've seen the Gen 1 as cheap as 700 USD, at retailers.
This is the Thinkpad Yoga if you want to get one just for travel, for a young person, carrying around at college, and similar. My S1 Yoga from 2013 has been loaned out many times, case paint rubbed down to the metal at the corners, and it still runs. The L13 Yoga has the same design language, and in some markets I believe they are actually called S2 Yoga Gen 5 and 6.
X13 Yoga Gen 2 (13" Intel)
Announced back on February 23rd, this 2-in-1 laptop has a lot of people very excited. It kinda has all the things.
Up to 11th Gen Intel (hopefully the nicer G7 SoC, as opposed to the lower powered one, but we'll see), with Integrated Intel Iris X Graphics. Premium graphics option, check.
Up to 32 GB LPDDR4 (4266MHz) RAM. More than 16GB RAM option, check.
52.8 Whr Battery, with rapid charge. Something more than a mid 40 Whr battery, check.
Integrated rechargeable pen stylus. Check.
13.3" 16:10 WQXGA or WUXGA sisplay options, Check. (This is incredible news, btw).
Thunderbolt 4 x2 Ports, check.
LTE WANN option, check.
Lighter than 3lb, at 2.65 lb, check.
POWER ON MoC TOUCH FINGER PRINT READER! (Applause, Check)
Black Carbon Fiber Hybrid color / chassis treatment, check
This is the Thinkpad Yoga I have been dreaming about since 2015. I can't think of a single thing I would add or take away from it. It might be perfect.
Tumblr media
Press Release says it'll be around in April, starting at 1379 USD. Believe I will be lurking the Lenovo Website for sales and double coupons the latter part of the year. The rest of the Press Release is here.
X1 Titanium Yoga (13.5" Intel) Gen 1
There's a lot to talk about here, but the main reason to get one of these is the 3:2 Aspect Ratio display option.
The 13.5" QHD (2256 x 1504) IPS, anti-reflective, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Dolby Vision, 450 nits has 1200:1 contrast ratio (better than average), with 72% NTSC Color Gamut (average).
Tumblr media
But, it's a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2-in-1 Thinkpad Yoga. That said, I haven't held one in my hands, or used one. The general warning with some of the Thinkpad Yoga products for 2021, the keyboard isn't as deep or nice as usual. With how thin and light they are getting Thinkpads, that isn't a surprise. I suspect that this model might have that issue. If you're all right with a shallower feeling keyboard, and just gotta have a 3:2 aspect ratio 2-in-1, maybe pull the trigger on this one.
X1 Nano Gen 1 (13" Nano)
This isn't a Thinkpad Yoga, but because of the Thinkvision M14t portable pen display, I feel like the Nano needs to get talked about a little bit. The non-touch screen, WiFi only model, is 1.99 lbs. The M14t portable pen display is about a 1.5 lb. With a Nano and a an M14t display, one could have a dual-display option, all Think branded, for about the same weight as an X1 Yoga Gen 6. Also, the Thinkpad Nano has a really nice 2K (I love 2k) 16:10 aspect ratio, low power, 100% sRGB color gamut, display.
Tumblr media
Having a portal rig that light, with a dual-display set up would be amazing. I could have my basis pics and reference work on the Nano's display, while I was drawing or writing on the M14t. If you're a digital artist that works with two display, one above the other, this could be a silver bullet for working mobile. There is a touch-screen model for the Nano, but I don't recommend getting that to work with a pen display.
Windows 10 really struggles to parse more than one touch screen, or pen display, connected. Getting your pen stylus buttons to work is tough. If the X1 Nano + M14t Setup sounds awesome, get the non-touch display option. It's lighter, and your pen stylus settings should just work on the portable display without fiddling. The M14t display monitor is a really good buy, just in general, because it is one of those products that doesn't come around too often.
Finding an M14t monitor could be tricky. It is often sold out, so some hunting and lurking online may be required.
Tumblr media
Non-Yoga Thinkpads
The standout models here are basically anything with an AMD chipset (yay, options!), and the the Thinkpad T15g.
I've recommended a few AMD models since they've been a regular offering in different Thinkpad lines. All good news, people are happy, and I'm much relieved the recommendations worked out. I figured they would, but like most folks that live in Thinkpad Land, we're a little nervous about big changes.
What I'm not nervous about is the Thinkpad T15g.
It's a desktop replacement option that isn't in the X1 line (and limited in configuration options), or in the P Series (expensive, NVIDIA Quadro standard). It has processor options that range from the Core i5-10400H up to a Xeon W-10885M. It's listed as being compatible with all the Linux, Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise, Ubuntu, and so forth.
Graphics Options are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or 2080 SUPER Max-Q.
It can have up to 128 GB of RAM, DDR4 or ECC for models with a Xeon Processor.
Up to two M.2 2280 SSD drives, with 2 TB each.
There's standard FHD display options, a UHD option, and an OLED UHD option with a 100,000:1 Contrast Ratio, 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut. With that particular option, a pen stylus will work on it.
The Thinkpad T15g is big (6 lb), and ugly (standard Thinkpad Black chassis finish), but you could work, and game on it with pretty equal ability. It's a Thinkpad ... but for gaming, too?

Best gaming laptop for 2020
gamer realizes that there's something else entirely to a gaming PC than crude speed. You can pack a gaming PC with the best illustrations card, the quickest, most brilliant presentation around, a gazillion-center processor, huge amounts of quick strong state drive stockpiling to hold your games, and an unshakable hard drive for auxiliary stockpiling - and it can even now miss the mark. Those amazing parts may overheat at the very least minutes or you may very well experience some unsteadiness. Or then again perhaps you would prefer not to consistently utilize an outer console, however the inherent form feels like pureed potatoes under your WASD keys.
Fortunately not all games are bottlenecked by double centers or a last-age GTX, so it is anything but a given that you'll have to bust your spending plan to pay for another PC. click here
With practically any gaming PC, regardless of how quick or moderate, the trade off you make is battery life, which can last as meager as 2 hours. You likewise can't play most complex games - GPU-or CPU-concentrated ones - on battery power. The processors will in general get choked back and screens diminish, so a PC that feels agile when associated is lead-footed on battery power, transforming your gaming experience into a skirmish of disappointment.
In any case, parts do make a difference. The quickest designs card presently accessible in a PC is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super, trailed by the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q. The Max-Q adaptations run at more slow frequencies than their full-size kin - this is to hold the clamor and warmth down and to assist them with fitting into more slender plans. RTX models likewise quicken beam followed delivering and give shrewd upscaling (otherwise called DLSS) where it's expressly upheld. On the off chance that your preferred games don't utilize it, the lower-end Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti consolidates Turing, the most recent age of Nvidia's innovation, without the additional cost weight of the RT centers. It's not equivalent to the last-age Nvidia GTX 1080, nonetheless.
asus-rog-zephyrus-g14-dsc05861
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 fuses AMD's new Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU.
Lori Grunin/CNET
The issue with the Max-Q, however, is that you need to reboot to switch between a devoted GPU mode and the first Optimus mode, which just uses the GPU for quickening, not really drawing the screen. That implies you can't exploit the Max-Q's ultrafast invigorate rates with Optimus. So why not leave it on the GPU mode constantly? Since you'll habitually get less fortunate CPU execution and much lesser illustrations execution in games that balance CPU and GPU use instead of going all out on the GPU.
Nvidia has disclosed the up and coming age of its Max-Q design which supports Advanced Optimus. It's more astute, with the coordinated and discrete illustrations sharing (as opposed to exchanging) the pipeline to the presentation, so no reboot important. Yet, Advanced Optimus needs a significant change to framework plan, so PCs supporting Advanced Optimus are still scant.
AMD has delivered its cutting edge PC GPUs, the Radeon RX 5700M, 5600M and 5500M. We've yet to test any in a Windows framework, yet a custom variant of the 5500M is in the most recent MacBook Pro 16. The 2020 Dell G5 15 SE consolidates the Radeon RX 5600M, which we're currently inspecting.
More centers may help while picking a CPU, however right now most games despite everything don't utilize more than four. That is mostly Intel's justification for its proceeded with dependence on its old 14nm engineering for the tenth gen elite (H arrangement) processors. It lets the organization help single-center clock frequencies, contrasted and gains it would make by moving to a littler cycle innovation, for example, Ice Lake, which is intended to help more centers on less force draw.
AMD, then again, began transporting its own H processors of the Ryzen 4000 arrangement, including another portable Core i9 contender, the eight-center/16-string Ryzen 9 4900HS. We tried it in the new Asus ROG Zephyrus 14 and it flies on both multi-and single-center. The Origin PC Eon15-X can likewise be outfitted with a Ryzen 9 3900 work area processor, a 12-center monster that is incredible for CPU-escalated programming, yet not so much in-your-face gaming.
And afterward there are the screens. Everybody's knocking their leader 1080p arrangements to 300Hz, however for some a gamer, they're not basic: 240Hz max ought to be fine for those couple of times you can get outline rates above 240fps. Indeed, even 144Hz will accomplish for some individuals, yet ancient rarities like tearing, brought about by the screen revive rate getting out of sync with the edge rate, rely upon your games as much as your PC image and equipment.
We're additionally observing significantly more 120Hz 4K screens in the lead models, in both 17-inch and 15-inch sizes. We've tried the 17-inch in the Razer Blade Pro 17 and the 15-inch in the Asus StudioBook One PC, and they're incredibly, decent. While OLED screens seemed like the best thing ever for building a lovely gaming rig - OLED has incredible shading and difference with quick reaction times - they're despite everything restricted to 4K/60Hz on PCs, just like the pending 14-inch 1440p showcase Asus will offer for the G14. So for 4K, the 120Hz screen is looking more famous.
Still with us? Fantastic. In case you're a gaming monster who needs to do a profound jump into what's out there the present moment and make sense of which is the best gaming PC for your ideal gaming experience, look at our suggestions underneath.
Best gaming PC by and large
Razer Blade Pro 17
Lori Grunin/CNET
In case you're going for best, pull out all the stops. Truly, there are quicker 17 inchers, however I adhere to a meaningful boundary at double humongous force blocks. (Doesn't make a difference to you? Look at the Gigabyte Aorus 17X, Alienware Area-51m and other mammoth frameworks) The Blade Pro is quick, however doesn't forfeit its smooth figure.
While we suggest getting this Blade Pro PC with its 4K-goal show choice for makers, gamers will need to get the presentation with a 300MHz revive rate that Razer offers for this model. Peruse our Razer Blade Pro 17 (mid 2020) survey.

The Zephyrus G14 is somewhat littler than expected for a gaming scratch pad at 14 inches, yet you presumably won't notice a very remarkable distinction among it and a 15-inch model - particularly since it packs a considerable amount in for the cash. Its AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU overwhelms current Intel contenders for processor execution, and it's equipped for business-PC battery life of as long as 10 hours when you're not gaming. Gaming execution is strong for a RTX 2060 Max-Q, and it's coordinated well with the 120Hz 1080p presentation. Nvidia’s similar feature, called DLSS, is supported by dozens of games, including Metro Exodus. Metro Exodus, for example, will not support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution due to compatibility issues with its rendering techniques. While AMD announced an AI-driven upscaling feature to improve performance in these situations, it won’t be available until June 22, and it’s still not clear what specific games will support it from that date moving forward. AMD hardware can’t beat Nvidia in ray tracing (the technical term for rendering realistic lighting effects in real-time), which is supported by an increasingly large number of games. This laptop’s AMD Radeon RX6800M graphics led it to victory over the Acer across our test suite, sometimes by a wide margin (it averaged 25 fps quicker in Metro Exodus, for example). One laptop the Helios 300 doesn’t beat is the new Asus ROG Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition. This includes an Acer Predator Triton 500 we reviewed with Nvidia RTX 2080 SUPER, an Asus TUF A15 with Nvidia RTX 2060, and a Razer Blade Advancedwith Nvidia RTX 2080 Super MAX-Q. These figures beat most gaming laptops we’ve tested in the past year. 60 frames a second is the minimum to hit these days, but obviously the RTX 3070 blows right past that.
#Acer predator helios 300 ports 1080p
But more important than synthetic benchmark scores is the actual in-game performance Metro Exodus exceeded 72 frames per second (fps) at Ultra detail and 1080p resolution, while Shadow of the Tomb Raider averaged 102 fps at Highest settings and the same resolution. 3DMark’s Fire Strike test, which measures gaming graphics performance, spat out a score of 20407, one of the highest we've recorded to-date. We saw strong scores across our entire range of benchmarks. Intel’s six-core processor isn’t that impressive, especially considering what AMD’s Ryzen 5000-series brings in comparison, but the Nvidia GPU easily makes up for its shortcomings. It’s powered by an Intel Core i7-10750H processor and Nvidia RTX 3070 mobile graphics. The RTX 2080 Super Founders Edition, meanwhile, runs at its stock reference spec speed. Indeed, even Nvidia say the RTX 2080 Super Founders Edition is only around 3-5% faster than its non-Super FE counterpart, so that's probably why some games mentioned in this review run pretty much exactly the same as before. The recently released RTX 2080 Super is a welcome addition to the Nvidia RTX Turing lineup because it narrows the performance gap between the $699 RTX 2080 and the $1199 RTX 2080 Ti.The newcomer's MSRP establishes at the same price as the RTX 2080 and improves on its performance by anywhere between 5-10%, essentially retiring the RTX 2080 if you find it at the same price as the 2080 Super. Oct 30, 2019 · 3DMark aside, the latest Tomb Raider game is where the biggest performance difference exists between the RTX 2080 Super and the RX 5700 XT too. At 23%, or 18fps faster that looks like a pretty big. Get the GPU at max power and dial in the core/mem overclocks, then run some 3DMark tests. If you can get 12,500-13,000 gpu score or higher in normal Timespy your card is running well. Otherwise look into to setting guides for MW, there may be one or two settings that REALLY kneecap the FPS with no real benefit.

Asus TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6800 XT OC (16 GB): Review | Benchmark | Specs
Tumblr media
Review of the video card Asus TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6800 XT OC (16 GB) Object of research: a commercially available 3D graphics accelerator (video card) Asus TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6800 XT OC 16 GB 256-bit GDDR6. Briefly about the main thing At the beginning of all reviews of serial video cards, we update our knowledge about the performance of the family to which the accelerator belongs and its competitors. All this is subjectively assessed by us on a scale of five gradations. Games without ray tracing (classic rasterization) Ever since the announcement of the Radeon RX 6000 series, we know that the Radeon RX 6800 XT is positioned as a direct competitor to the GeForce RTX 3080, and this is really justified in most games with classic rasterization. Moreover, both the GeForce RTX 3080 and the Radeon RX 6800 XT can provide comfort in games with the maximum graphics settings in 4K resolution. Of course, this is not possible in all games, but in most games it is for sure. It is clear that the Radeon RX 6800 XT copes with the lower resolution playfully. In terms of performance, the Asus card is slightly faster than the reference analog. Ray tracing games It is also well known that when ray tracing is turned on, the entire Radeon RX 6000 family exhibits very severe performance drops. Competitors from the Nvidia camp also have a drop in speed, but there it is not so strong. So, the performance of the Radeon RX 6800 XT is reduced to the level of the GeForce RTX 2080 Super / 3060 Ti, or even lower. It is clear that there is no longer any talk of competition with the GeForce RTX 3080. Like DLSS on Nvidia GeForce RTX cards, FSR technology on the Radeon RX 6000 increases FPS to compensate for the drop caused by ray tracing, but so far there are very few games with FSR support. Card characteristics Asustek Computer (Asus trademark) was founded in 1989 in the Republic of China (Taiwan). Headquartered in Taipei / Taiwan. On the Russian market since 1992. The oldest manufacturer of video cards and motherboards. Now it produces a very wide range of products in many areas of the IT industry (including the mobile segment). Manufactured in China and Taiwan. The total number of employees is about 2000 people. Samsung memory chips (GDDR6, K4ZAF325BM-HC16) are designed for a nominal nominal operating frequency of 4000 (16000) MHz. Card features and comparison with AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Asus TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6800 XT OC (16 ГБ)AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT (16 ГБ)front view    back view     The total number of power phases for the reference card Radeon RX 6800 XT is 15, while that of the Asus card is 17. The PCB of Asus is somewhat similar to the reference card, but there are also many differences. The power circuit for the kernel is shown in green, and the memory is in red. The 16-phase PWM controller XDPE132G5D (Infineon) controls 14 phases of the GPU power supply (the controller itself is located on the back of the PCB). There is also a PWM controller IR35217 (IOR / Infineon), which controls three phases of power supply to memory chips; it is also located on the back of the printed circuit board. The GPU power converter, built using Super Alloy Power II technology and modern solid-state capacitors (which is traditional for Asus), uses DrMOS transistor assemblies - in this case TDA21472 (IOR / Infineon), each of which is designed for a maximum current of 70 A ( a total of 980 A, this is more than enough for any overclocking :)). The board has the usual number of video outputs (4), and the set is no less familiar: 3 DP 1.4 and 1 HDMI 2.1. You can also find a proprietary controller for controlling the backlight on the board. But the monitoring is managed by the already built-in AMD tools, since the usual ITE IT8915 controller is not here (on the cards of the ROG Strix family, it controls two FanConnect II connectors for case fans, which can work depending on the heating of the video card, and this is the difference between ROG Strix and TUF Gaming : in the latter case, there are no FanConnect II connectors). The nominal memory frequencies are equal to the reference values. But the boost value of the core frequency is higher than the reference analogue, which on average gives a performance increase of 4%. Manual overclocking was tested using the standard AMD utility included with the driver control panel (although possible via Asus GPU Tweak and MSI Afterburner). The maximum possible frequencies for stable operation were found to be 2701/17088 MHz. At the same time, the performance gain relative to the reference card was just over 7%. The video card has two BIOS options and a switch on the top of the card. The positions are indicated as P Mode (Performance) and Q Mode (Quiet). The difference lies in different curves of the fan operation settings (in terms of frequencies, everything is almost identical). At low GPU load, the fans always stop. Power is supplied through two 8-pin connectors. The operation of the card is controlled using the well-known proprietary utility Asus GPU Tweak II. The most correct frequency mode Default operating mode (not much different from OC) Manual setting panel Heating and cooling The basis of the CO is a huge two-piece plate nickel-plated radiator with heat pipes soldered to the base of direct contact with the GPU and memory chips. The same heatsink serves as a cooler for VRM power converter components using small pads. In this case, there is no frame that serves as both a cooler and a stiffener for the entire structure, being screwed to the mounting plate of the video card (this is another difference between the TUF series and ROG, where such a frame is available). The back plate is made of aluminum with an electrically protective coating and has a dual purpose: it serves as a PCB protection element and through the thermal interface participates in cooling the back side of the card in the zones of memory chips and power converters. As you can see from the principle of operation of this CO, all hot air remains inside the case, it is blown out partially behind the video card, as well as directly onto the motherboard. This means that you need to have a well-ventilated housing. Above the radiator, there is a casing with three ∅95 mm Axial-tech fans, in which the ends of the blades are connected by a ring for a clearer direction of air flow to the radiator. In addition, the middle fan has 2 blades more than the outer ones. At the same time, it rotates in the opposite direction relative to the extreme ones, which provides a "gear effect", helping to combat turbulence in the air flow. The fans stop at low load if the GPU temperature drops below 50 degrees. Of course, the CO becomes silent at the same time. When the PC starts up, the fans run, then they turn off before the OS boots. Then they turn on again for a few seconds before loading the video driver, and after polling the operating temperature, they turn off again. Below is a video on this topic. Fans are turned off at idle with any BIOS option. https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2FdGuE2DmPgac%3Ffeature%3Doembed&display_name=YouTube&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdGuE2DmPgac&image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FdGuE2DmPgac%2Fhqdefault.jpg&key=0ab080c1948f4b70823c97de31f6895f&type=text%2Fhtml&schema=youtube Thermal Monitoring with MSI Afterburner: BIOS P Mode (Performance): After a 2-hour run under load in OC Mode, the maximum core temperature did not exceed 65 degrees, which is an excellent result for video cards of this level. The maximum power was recorded at 264 W, and the maximum heating was observed in the center of the PCB. Below is a 9-minute card heating accelerated 50 times. https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2FGxMI_p-IWJQ%3Ffeature%3Doembed&display_name=YouTube&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DGxMI_p-IWJQ&image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FGxMI_p-IWJQ%2Fhqdefault.jpg&key=0ab080c1948f4b70823c97de31f6895f&type=text%2Fhtml&schema=youtube Radeon-based cards have the ability to get the heating temperature of GDDR6 memory chips through AMD software (we remember that GDDR6X chips have their own temperature sensors, and this data is already used by some HWinfo-type PC monitoring programs). And the heating in general was not critical. With the described manual overclocking, the card's operating parameters did not change much, and the maximum consumption rose to 288 W. BIOS Q Mode (Quiet) In this mode, the core temperature was slightly higher - 70 ° C, but the fans rotated more slowly. The maximum heating of the GDDR6 memory rose to 92 degrees, which is also not critical. Let's note a very important point about the sensors that broadcast about the heating of the GPU at about 100 degrees and even higher. These sensors can be called both Hot Spot and Junction. The temperature of these sensors can be very different from the generally accepted temperature for GPU heating. The fact is that AMD installs several sensors on its processors, and Hot Spot (Junction) means the maximum heating point of the graphics core. It can reach 110 ° C and it is safe! The fact is that the driver will continue to increase the frequencies of the GPU units until the Hot Spot sensor gets close to this value, having received the maximum that this GPU crystal can do. Of course, specific samples of chips, as well as types / types of COs, plus the load of the GPU in a particular game (driver operation) will affect the possibility of reaching maximum heating, and hence the maximum operating frequencies. Therefore, these values may differ for different cards, but I repeat once again: there is no need to be afraid of such temperatures , GPUs tolerate such modes quite well (the silicon heating limit is even higher). Noise The noise measurement technique assumes that the room is noise-insulated and damped, and reverberations are reduced. The system unit, in which the noise of video cards is examined, does not have fans and is not a source of mechanical noise. The background level of 18 dBA is the noise level in the room and the noise level of the sound level meter itself. Measurements are taken from a distance of 50 cm from the video card at the level of the cooling system. Measurement modes: - Idle mode in 2D: loaded internet browser with iXBT.com website, Microsoft Word window, a number of internet communicators - 2D mode with movie viewing: SmoothVideo Project (SVP) is used - hardware decoding with insertion of intermediate frames - 3D mode with maximum load on the accelerator: using FurMark benchmark The assessment of the noise level gradations is as follows: - less than 20 dBA: conditionally silent - 20 to 25 dBA: very quiet - from 25 to 30 dBA: quiet - 30 to 35 dBA: clearly audible - 35 to 40 dBA: loud but bearable - above 40 dBA: very loud In idle, the Performance Mode and Quiet Mode did not differ at all: in 2D the temperature was no higher than 43 ° C, the fans did not work, the noise level was equal to the background one - 18 dBA. When watching a movie with hardware decoding, nothing changed. Under maximum load in 3D, the temperature in Performance Mode reached 65 ° C. At the same time, the fans spun up to 1690 rpm, the noise grew up to 34.1 dBA: it is relatively quiet, although it is already clearly audible. In the video below, noise was captured for a couple of seconds every 30 seconds. https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2FPOjNntE7BU4%3Ffeature%3Doembed&display_name=YouTube&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DPOjNntE7BU4&image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FPOjNntE7BU4%2Fhqdefault.jpg&key=0ab080c1948f4b70823c97de31f6895f&type=text%2Fhtml&schema=youtube In Quiet Mode, the temperature reached 70 ° C. At the same time, the fans spun up to 1070 rpm, and the noise grew only up to 27.2 dBA: it's quiet. https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2FPPZIFBq232A%3Ffeature%3Doembed&display_name=YouTube&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DPPZIFBq232A&image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FPPZIFBq232A%2Fhqdefault.jpg&key=0ab080c1948f4b70823c97de31f6895f&type=text%2Fhtml&schema=youtube Backlight The backlighting of the card is implemented on the upper end in an insert with the TUF Gaming logo. https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2F75T0uBK3dmY%3Ffeature%3Doembed&display_name=YouTube&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D75T0uBK3dmY&image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2F75T0uBK3dmY%2Fhqdefault.jpg&key=0ab080c1948f4b70823c97de31f6895f&type=text%2Fhtml&schema=youtube Backlight control is traditionally performed using Asus' proprietary program - Armory Crate. The choice of modes is not very wide, but there is a program Aura Creator, which is also distributed free of charge, and with its help you can create your own lighting scenarios. Scope of delivery and packaging The package, in addition to the traditional user manual and the TUF Gaming card, includes a small bonus in the form of a branded line. Test results in 3D games Standard benchmark results without hardware ray tracing at 1920 × 1200, 2560 × 1440, and 3840 × 2160 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Shadow of the Tomb Raider Most games still do not support ray tracing technology, and there are still a lot of video cards on the market that do not support RT in hardware. The same is true for Nvidia's DLSS smart anti-aliasing technology. Therefore, we still carry out the most massive tests in games without ray tracing. Nevertheless, today already half of the video cards we regularly test support RT technology, so we conduct tests not only using conventional rasterization methods, but also with the inclusion of RT and / or DLSS. Unfortunately, among the games currently presented in the tests, there are not yet those supporting AMD FSR, so AMD Radeon RX 6000 family video cards take part in the tests without DLSS analogue, but soon we will introduce The Medium and Far Cry 6 games using FSR technology.
