usually kpop subunits are smaller parts of the group that promote as the whole group is promoting, right, but then you find out nu’est didn’t want to release music without minhyun while he promoted with wanna one and being on a survival show like produce 101 saved the group from extinction so they made nu’est w and the w stands for waiting and so many of the nu’est w songs have heartwrenching lyrics and you’re just like.

Kpop title track ranking: NU’EST

In this series I’ll be ranking kpop groups/soloists title tracks based on my taste.

As someone who has been into Kpop around ten years at this point (oh do I feel old saying that) and knowing them pretty much from the moment I became a Kpop fan, ranking NU’EST songs makes awful lot of sense, right? And they truly have a nice title track selection, so it’s just about how I feel about these great great songs.

Good Bye Bye - Oh I’m so biased for this as this was my first NU’EST comeback as a fan. I also have the tendency to gravitate towards dark and moody songs like this one.

Love Me - It’s so good! So sweet, so cheery and so catchy!

Inside Out - I’m blanking out. It’s just so good.

Sleep Talking - Oh I’m so biased for this part 2. I don’t know why I have such a soft spot for this one, as I have nostalgia for all their other earlier songs too, but this is just somehow more special. It’s just so cheery, up-beat and fun, I love it!

I’m In Trouble - I’m blanking out. It’s just so good part 2

Bet Bet - Oh Bet Bet is just so good. I’ve really got nothing to say here other than that.

Overcome - Why haven’t I listened to this more often? It’s soo good! I’m baffled right now. Yes, I’ve listened to it when it came out but I definitely haven’t given it as much love as I should have over the years.

Hello - For some reason the young me really didn’t like this music video and that made me avoid the song all together for the longest time. Luckily at some point I realized that I should give the song a fair listen and I realized how great of a song Hello is. And this song is so timeless. It could be released today and it wouldn’t sound dated. It’s such a pretty song!

Action - Now I have to say that I always was more the Action-person in the Face vs. Action comparison. And I have to say it seems that I still am. Even with that crazy dance break that maybe hasn’t aged perfectly.

Face - What a way to debut! Such memorable song. Even though it has been years since I’ve listened to it more actively it does hold up quite well even now.

Love Paint - Love Paint is one that never quite clicked with me. The chorus is really nice but as I full thing I don’t find myself wanting to listen to it. Just not one for me I guess.

I left I’m Bad and Alone out as they weren’t really promoted songs. If they were to be on the list Alone would be right above Love Paint and I’m Bad would be on the bottom. Alone truly feels like the beautiful disbandment song that it ended up being and I’m Bad is a fine song, but I just prefer everything else above it.

Couple of amazing b-sides that deserve a shout out:   Love Without Love (aka Darkness) - If I have to name a favorite NU’EST song this is the one I’ll go for. I just love it to bits. But also: Hello Hello, Beautiful Ghost and VVITH

i cannot. actually believe that blue box bitch is making hui compete on bp999 after being in the military for two years. what the fuck. as a ptg fan it is super discouraging to see and i’m rlly worried about the future of pentagon :((( the gp999 contract was an exclusive 2.5 year contract, and if it’s the same for bp, then hui will not have been in a comeback for pentagon for nearly FIVE YEARS !!!!! being a uni is like being punished by god for real

THE BLUE BOX FJWKFKDK and yeah ,,,, i heard it was gonna be a full 7 year contract this time with the first half promoting only with the new group and the second half promoting with both your own group and the bp999 group?? but like idk i hope he pulls a nu’est where he gets super super popular and makes it to the end and then he doesn’t get voted into the final group wkhdwkkfwk but honestly we never know what the situation is until the show comes out with his interview :/ i’m not even a uni (real) i’m just a casual fan but its just so ….. 😭 btw the fact that hwanhee and xiao from up10tion who debuted around the same time as ptg are here too ,,,,, the trainees are about to get shown up!!!

and ok. when i first saw it the minghao thing was really disappointing to see and i know that this is said all the time but it doesn’t make it less true ,,,, east/southeast asian culture tends to carry the sentiment that being bigger is inherently bad and it’s not surprising that there was a clip of him saying those things and repeating that rhetoric when its the culture he was raised in.

BUT. THIS IS A REALLY BIG BUT. i also heard people saying that it was a mistranslation and the clip that went viral is actually not showing the full context? (p.s i don’t want to seem like i’m defending him or excusing minghao if he really did say those things but i’m just relaying what i’ve seen!) but basically the translation on the video kind of misconstrues what minghao was saying. the full context was that minghao was asked what advice he would give someone who was skinny and wanted to gain weight, and then asked for advice for someone chubby who wanted to lose weight. minghao then says that what’s most important is loving yourself, because when you love yourself you can know what’s best for yourself, whether it be exercising to gain, lose, or maintain your weight. and that initial thing where he says “stop eating” is said like . jokingly/sarcastically, because the host had previously said that he lost 15kg in one month from not eating and minghao was just referencing that again (and also after he says the joke he gets serious and says that this sort of thing was something he can’t just say carelessly, which is why he goes onto explain his actual answer and advise). the overall message he was trying to say was to love yourself no matter what size you are.

even so, i doubt minghao is completely guilt free in what he said (even if he didn’t mean it like that), especially since he’s still implying there’s a certain “body type” that’s considered healthy(?). but again, if it comes out that minghao really did say it like that then i’m disappointed but not really surprised, but also i think we shouldn’t jump to conclusions before getting all the facts straight :’)

Ok so I actually have 2 inside jokes, one is with a song and one is with an artist 😂!

So the song one actually has to do with a song called “Lullaby” by GOT7, now i love the song and so does my mom, but for a long time my mom would giggle when she listened to it which made me go “??” and finally one day she explained:

“ For some reason anytime I listen to this song, it reminds me of a drag show or a Miss Universe pagent or something. Y’know like when they’re walking down the runway or across the stage, for some reason this song reminds of that.”

It was…so random and odd that I didn’t know how to respond…and still don’t tbh 😅. But now I just refer to the song as her “drag/runway” song and she gets all excited because she loves the song a lot 😆!

Now for the artist; there is a group called Stray Kidz, and a couple of years ago they came to america for some promotions. They were going to be on a show here in the US and so the show did promotional posters for their appearance and instead of calling them “Stray Kidz”, like how their name is spelt in english, they changed it to: “The Stray Children”.

It was so bad it’s become an inside joke with me and my mom and anytime she see’s them trending online she clicks her tongue and goes: “Those rotten stray children are at it again” and she just laughs because she actually loves them as a group and likes their songs 😆!

He debuted in 2012 with NU’EST, featuring the title track ‘FACE’. In 2016-2017, he participated in a survival show by Mnet, Produce 101 Season 2. Unfortunately, he didn't manage to debut and secured the 14th position as his final rank. After P101, NU’EST made a comeback with their sub-unit NU’EST W and achieved their first win in 5 years with the song ‘Where U At’. NU’EST disbanded on March 15th, 2023, coinciding with the group’s 10th anniversary, leaving their fans devastated. Jonghyeon then signed a contract with EVERMORE Ent. as an actor and singer, making his solo debut on November 8th, 2022, with the mini-album MERIDIEM.

Besides excelling as a singer and rapper, Jonghyeon is also a talented actor. He officially debuted as an actor in 2021 with a KBS drama titled ‘Let Me Be Your Knight’. Before that, he also starred in a Japanese movie titled ‘Their Distance,’ marking his first venture into acting. His acting projects in 2023 include two new web dramas, where he takes on the main role in both, titled ‘It Was Spring’ and ‘Sound Candy.’ His upcoming acting project, titled ‘My Friend’s Graduation,’ is set to air in early 2024.

Best case scenario, if Hui does debut in Bep1er there’ll be a Pentagon renaissance, much like what happened to Hwang Minhyun and Nu’est. When Minhyun was poached for Wanna One, Nu’est formed the subunit Nu’est W while “waiting” for their member to return. They experienced a skyrocketing climb in popularity that continued even after Minhyun returned that was beautiful for them and the fans while it lasted.

BEP1ER oh my god.. yeah there are definitely ways to make that situation work, i just have absolutely no faith that cube wouldn’t just take it as another reason to keep pentagon in this weird indefinite hiatus they’ve been in for the past year. plus members are enlisting and they’re apparently still planning on debuting a new bg. but i want to hope for the best and maybe it will all work out 😔

Nu’est ‘LOVE ME’

-Now my favorite song from Nu’est

-If I got wrecked by ‘bet bet’ I got a heart attack watching this

-This comeback really made me realize how much I love Nu’est

-I watched every teaser when it came out

-Bro I sort of got freaked out when I watched them
