EARLY BIRD(IE) CHALLENGE — SOMEBODY ELSE SATURDAY

i would like to take somebody else saturday to talk a little bit more about imogen hsu who is an investigative journalist. she meets lovebug for the first time while working a case about a string of robberies. (this is a case that should be way above anything imogen has been cleared to cover, but she doesn't care and doesn't bother to ask permission before following her leads.) lovebug is not drawn to the same robbery as imogen by leads—she happens upon it while it's fully in progress, but imogen is amazed to watch lovebug completely dismantle the situation without a single action of violence by any party and get everybody out safely.

at the same time that she releases her article covering the event, the daily bugle releases one defaming lovebug and superheroes as a whole. imogen sees lovebug and her tactics not just as another hero, but as a hero doing something better, and j jonah jameson just shit all over that because he doesn't understand her or any hero, not really.

she makes a habit of following lovebug's exploits when she can, wanting to document the good that's being done and to do some good herself. she becomes one of lovebug's most vocal supporters in the community not just writing about the bad guys she stops but also being a strong advocate of the same themes that are so prevalent in lovebug's messaging: hope, kindness, the power of every induvial to do good and the power of a small good deed. she takes to writing about community betterment, volunteer opportunities, investigating and finding the missing people in the community that nobody else cares enough to look into. imogen is far from an idealist, but very much believes in andie's idealism and they both believe in the power of language to change minds. andie becomes used to seeing imogen's face in the crowd and is always trying to encourage her to be... safer, but also is extremely grateful to know there's someone in her corner. and that someone is one who won't ever back down on her beliefs. on more than one occasion it's been imogen's observations that has saved andie's life because she's noticed something that she knows lovebug will have missed or been too optimistic to take seriously, so imogen has thrown herself into the fray to drag lovebug out of it before it was too late.

the band heart attack was formed by friends jessie "mac" mccoy and romeo dixon (who might be familiar to marvel comics readers as lovebug's closest confidant and sometimes romantic interest). it is one of the many bands that exist within the marvel comics universe, making a background appearance in spider-man and lovebug comics. the band is made up of romeo dixon, mac mccoy, jessie wilson, and crash reid, who are college students along with andie eliot.

thea margot jennings works for feast as the events coordinator slash lgbtq advocate. (it's both jobs bc feast has a very limited budget to pay real actual employees so everyone is wearing multiple hats.) her wife works for new york parks & recreation in the permits and events department so any time thea is trying to get an event set up she just goes to her wife. they work very well as a team. thea moved to new york from texas for collage where she met jenny, her future wife, and decided to stay. she's great with kids, believes so much in feast, and goes clubbing on the weekends with jenny & andie.

imogen hsu is an investigative journalist who follows lovebug's exploits and is largely one of her biggest and most vocal supporters. (the other journalist known to talk about super heroes is jjj who hates lovebug.) she's pragmatic and yet also extremely reckless, bossy, a quick thinker, and a great strategist. she's also a mutant with the ability to manipulate sound via a scream that can generate powerful sound/shockwaves. it's not something she does often.

her and lovebug are friendly, though lovebug is frequently encouraging her to stay out of danger's way and this advice is summarily ignored by imogen who loves danger. she's often bringing lovebug tips and has more than once gotten the hero out of a jam. when lovebug is stuck on something and needs help, imogen is one of the people she goes to.

adam bright is a bright, young new recruit at her uncle's firehouse! he's deaf and has a smile like the sun and makes lots of references to old sci-fi shows that go right over andie's head. he goes through a nasty, horrible break-up with his girlfriend and spends two weeks living on the kindard-eliot couch where he absolutely sees andie sneak in through the window as lovebug. after he moves out he still comes 'round every friday for shabbat.

andie's boss at feast is a woman named frances reed. her official title is executive director and she's the very top in the chain of command at the shelter, taking over leadership after martin li.... stepped down.

frances is a kind, generous, thoughtful woman whose main focus is to ensure that feast is a safe and respectful place for anyone who uses its resources. the unhoused, low income, disabled, undocumented, and even often the elderly are overlooked and/or looked down upon—especially when trying to ask for help. frances leads by example in ensuring that everyone at feast is treated with respect and kindness. she's an inspiration of kindness and generosity for the rest of her staff and her influence definitely trickles down to everyone that works for and with her. she is one of andie's favorite people and is often someone who andie looks to model herself after. also if it weren't for frances being as kind as she was, andie likely would have been fired for being late to work or missing it entirely one too many times.
