The Scenario for Flag Soccer As an Olympic Sport
The Olympics are not like any other sporting opposition on the planet. For 16 days, over 300 functions symbolizing 35 athletics and each and every country on the earth compete to get house their prized medals, and I have appeared ahead to viewing the Summertime Olympics each and every 4 a long time considering that as considerably again as I can don't forget. But there's constantly been something missing. flag football One particular of the United States most well-known athletics, and a best ten sport throughout the entire world, it looks as even though tackle and flag football could be Olympic athletics by the 12 months 2024, but issue obstructions nevertheless continue being for that to turn out to be a reality. Initial we'll wander via some motives why the highway to obtaining American Football integrated into the Olympics has not been an effortless journey, adopted by why we imagine flag football to be the sensible remedy and choice as a potential Olympic sport. WHY Just isn't AMERICAN Football Previously AN OLYMPIC Activity? In accordance to an article by NFL.com, the biggest logistical problems dealing with the activity of American Football getting included in the Olympics are very related to that of Rugby. With the huge quantities of contributors on each and every group, the "gender equality" formats in which each men and women take part in every activity, and the compressed three 7 days routine that would be challenging with a much more bodily match like soccer and rugby. Additionally for American Soccer, the barrier to entry is high thanks to it truly is price to equip all players with pads and gear, and therefor has also been gradual to undertake in numerous overseas international locations, particularly of the poorer range. Understanding all this, it's challenging to see how both activity would be a excellent in shape for the Summer season Olympics. Rugby is a good deal like Soccer in that really tiny is necessary to perform the activity in conditions of gear and follow at it really is base stage, and has a significantly larger international adhering to. This amid other motives has recently allowed Rugby to be cleared for the Olympics starting up in 2016 by changing the traditional design to a considerably less traditional "sevens" format which is more quickly paced with significantly less men and women, which could support carve a comparable path for American Football, or flag soccer far more exclusively. Deal with Security Worries Even more and more high faculty, college and pro teams are beginning to reduce the amount of speak to procedures, still sporting the likes of gentle-padded headgear and shoulder pads for extra defense. But what if we could limit the speak to gamers see just before higher college and center university even though also addressing some of the worries for the activity connected to it currently being fully accepted into the Olympics? There is certainly a whole lot of discuss not too long ago revolving all around the basic safety of deal with football, and not just in the NFL exactly where concussions are a key worry. Beginning as much back as the youth soccer level, current evidence has surfaced supporting the concept that even brief of a concussion, recurring head impacts and collision can manifest in similar brain accidents afterwards in lifestyle for children tested among the ages of 8-13. Numerous researchers are suggesting children shouldn't be playing soccer at all, suggesting that kids' heads are "a larger part of their physique, and their necks are not as strong as adults' necks. So little ones may possibly be at a higher chance of head and mind accidents than grownups." DREW BREES Thinks FLAG Soccer CAN Help save Football As of 2015, reports display that flag soccer is the swiftest developing youth sport in the United States, greatly outpacing the progress of classic tackle football. Many specific high colleges are producing the switch to flag soccer more than deal with, acquiring other colleges in their regions to follow go well with making organized leagues and divisions. It's even an formally regarded varsity activity in many states, and with ladies especially flag football is a way to let easier participation vs . the physical nature of tackle. And he is not the only one particular. Not too long ago Drew Brees was interviewed by Peter King for NBC's pregame demonstrate and had some robust words on why he thinks flag soccer is the answer. "I truly feel like flag soccer can save soccer," Brees stated. Brees coaches his son's flag soccer group, and played flag soccer himself by means of junior high, by no means enjoying tackle football until high college. "I feel like (flag soccer) is a fantastic introductory technique for a great deal of kids into football," Brees talked about. "In any other case I truly feel it really is really simple to go in and have a poor expertise early on and then not want to at any time perform it yet again. I feel like once you put the pads on there are just so a lot of other elements to the sport, and you're at the mercy of the coach in a lot of cases also. And to be truthful, I will not consider sufficient coaches are well-versed ample in regards to the true fundamentals of the match particularly when the pads go on at the youth stage." Many other professional athletes and coaches have expressed comparable sentiments as well, singing praises for the activity of flag football, and the increase in reputation of the activity echoes that. Flag football isn't a fluke or just a recreational advancement resource that feeds into tackle soccer, it is a complete-fledged motion that has it is possess identification and function and it really is time we identified that difference. Internationally it is attaining reputation as well, much more rapidly it would seem than standard American soccer where the barrier to entry is much larger with the want for complete pads and equipment. In Mexico for occasion, flag soccer is booming in popularity, in which most think about it to be the #two sport to soccer and closing quick, with and approximated 2.5 million children taking part just at the elementary university level. International groups are starting up to make the trip to some of the far more popular American flag soccer tournaments, with illustration from Panama, Indonesia, Bahamas, Mexico, Canada and far more a common event. Everywhere you appear, participation and curiosity in the sport flag soccer is exploding. At an grownup stage, it was a record calendar year for the sport of flag soccer. New key tournaments are popping up throughout the entire world, looking at hundreds of teams competing across all age teams, formats and types. Income prizes have been at an all time higher, predicted to eclipse more than $one hundred,000 in staff giveaways in the subsequent calendar yr. Sponsors have started out getting notice as nicely, with the likes of EA Sporting activities, Nerf, Resorts.com, Red Bull and other key brand names viewing the benefit and expansion from flag soccer as a way to effectively reach their goal audience in large numbers. Women's participation is at an all-time higher as effectively, mirroring it's popularity at the youth stage, and is the preferred format of enjoy for American soccer in most Central to South American countries. So how does this all guide back again to the Olympics and acquiring American soccer included as an official sport? 1st, let us evaluation a little background on in which the activity stands today with the International Olympic Committee, or IOC. Historically, In get to be integrated into the Olympic game titles as a demonstration sport, you have to have an International Federation and have held a Entire world Championship competitors. This need to get area a bare minimum of six years prior to a scheduled Olympic online games. The Global Federation of American Soccer, mainly concentrated on deal with soccer but includes flag in it's event lineup, satisfied this regular and was authorized in 2012, and acquired provisional recognition in 2014. This could pave the way for American soccer to be incorporated as an formal sport, and flag soccer as probably a discipline of explained sport, even so the IFAF has because faced setbacks thanks to alleged scandal, function mismanagement and misappropriation of funds that can't bode well for the sports inclusion limited term. Fortunately in 2007 the IOC adopted a new, more versatile rule established permitting applications to be up for assessment right after each and every Olympics commencing in 2020, clearing a route for all athletics to current their situation for being incorporated by profitable a easy greater part vote. So the chance is there for American football to be incorporated in the most prestigious sporting function close to the entire world, but how do we defeat the road blocks presented by the framework of the activity to match the mold of a productive Olympic sporting occasion? Fox news Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 13: Quarterbacks - NFL.com
Fox news
Printed: Nov. 27, 2019 at 11: 01 a.m.
Up up to now: Nov. 29, 2019 at 01: 12 p.m.
Senior delusion analyst
Begin 'Em & Sit down 'Em is the supreme weekly stare upon NFL matchups and the scheme they're going to electrify your delusion soccer crew. Sage superstars such as Patrick Mahomes and Christian McCaffrey would possibly seemingly per chance not be featured on this column. All participant matchups are basically basically basically based on a PPR scoring procedure. For your final starting lineup choices, take a look at my weekly delusion soccer lineup rankings.
Begin 'Em
Begin of the Week - Aaron Rodgers vs. Novel York Giants
Rodgers used to be a sit down 'em last week, but I'd aid the faith (no decrease than this week), when the Packers head to the Huge Apple to face the Giants. Their protection has given up seven touchdowns and the fifth-most delusion points to signal-callers since Week 9, so Rodgers is a hunch for me. Rain is within the forecast even though, so that can seemingly per chance seemingly trade his outlook.
Kirk Cousins vs. Seattle Seahawks
Cousins has been one of the freshest quarterbacks in delusion soccer, and a Monday night matchup in Seattle makes him a doable top-10 possibility. Take into consideration it or not, the Seahawks have allowed a top-10 delusion self-discipline traditional in four of its last six games, and three others have done within the end 14 on the situation. Cousins is a low-pause QB1 for me.
Josh Allen vs. Dallas Cowboys
Allen has been expansive within the stat sheets, scoring 19 or extra delusion points in each of his last three games. He also is nonetheless solid as a runner, speeding for four touchdowns since Week 9. So while the Cowboys will even be stressful on quarterbacks, I nonetheless care for Allen to plot a pleasing stat line in a an necessary Thanksgiving matchup.
Jameis Winston vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Winston is nonetheless sophisticated to believe, but he does corrupt fifth in passing yards per sport and 10th in delusion points among quarterbacks. This week he faces the Jaguars, who bright allowed when it comes to 40 delusion points to Ryan Tannehill per week ago. Whereas there would possibly be always threat of an implosion, I nonetheless care for Winston on this sport.
Sam Darnold vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Darnold has performed at a excessive level in recent weeks, scoring over 21 delusion points in three straight games. All the scheme via that time, he's discovered the pause zone a combined nine times. He's an excellent streamer against the Bengals, who've surrendered an moderate of when it comes to 22 delusion points per sport to opposing quarterbacks this season.
Begin 'Em: Kyler Murray vs. Los Angeles Rams, Carson Wentz at Miami Dolphins Sleepers: Prick Foles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Sit down 'Em
Sit down of the Week - Philip Rivers vs. Denver Broncos
Rivers has been brutal within the stat sheets, scoring fewer than 15 delusion points in in all but one of his last seven games. He also has seven picks in his last two contests. He wishes to be benched once again, because the Broncos have surrendered five touchdown passes and the fifth-fewest delusion points to motorway quarterbacks in 2019.
Matt Ryan vs. Novel Orleans Saints
I'm on the fence with Ryan this week, because this season as been so sideways he would possibly seemingly per chance seemingly defy the matchup. He has failed to rating extra than 16.4 points in four straight games even though, and the Saints held him to fewer than 15 points in Week 10. I'd not be bowled over if Ryan had an very excellent line, but he's hard to believe with the playoffs on the line.
Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Baltimore Ravens
Garoppolo has scored 18-plus delusion points in three of his last four games, but he's a tough promote when he travels to Baltimore to face a truly stingy Ravens protection. These birds have allowed bright two touchdown passes and an moderate of fewer than 13 delusion points a sport to enemy quarterbacks at M&T Financial institution Stadium this season.
Baker Mayfield vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Mayfield has been on absolute fire for delusion followers in recent weeks, but can he aid it up in a stressful divisional roadie against the Steelers? Their protection has given up bright nine touchdown passes and an moderate of 12.1 delusion points per sport to quarterbacks at Heinz Discipline, so Mayfield would possibly seemingly per chance seemingly seemingly be in for a stressful week in Pittsburgh.
Daniel Jones vs. Inexperienced Bay Packers
Jones scored bright 14.7 delusion points in what used to be a stressful matchup versus the Bears per week ago, and an upcoming contest against the Packers makes him a proceed for me once again. Their protection has allowed 14 touchdown passes and fewer than 15 delusion points per sport to enemy quarterbacks, so the rookie is in a despicable region.
Sit down 'Em: Andy Dalton vs. Novel York Jets, Jacoby Brissett vs. Tennessee Titans Busts: Tom Brady at Houston Texans, Derek Carr at Kansas City Chiefs
Michael Fabiano is an award-a success delusion soccer analyst on NFL.com and NFL Network and a member of the Sage Sports activities Writers Association (FSWA) Corridor of Fame. 'NFL GREEN' SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS
The Huddle Greening Project on Tuesday, January 21st is one of several activations initiated by the NFL to respond to the environmental impact of Pro Bowl events and to leave a positive "green legacy" in the host community. Other NFL Green initiatives for Pro Bowl include:
Recycle & Win: Fans at Wide World of Sports who are caught in the act of recycling may receive a unique NFL 100th season hat and an opportunity to have their photo posted to NFL social media. The program, first implemented at Super Bowl LIII and the NFL Draft, rewards fans for recycling.
Food Recovery: The NFL is teaming with Second Harvest Food Bank and Disney Harvest to recover unserved, prepared food and beverages from Pro Bowl events and minimize food waste. Unserved, prepared food will be distributed to local shelters and community kitchens in Orlando.
Material Recovery: There will be an intensive drive to collect and donate all items left over from Pro Bowl events. In partnership with Salvation Army, the NFL will donate decorative materials, office supplies and other items that can be reused or repurposed. This project keeps material out of local landfills and turns it into valuable items for resale or reuse.
Renewable Energy Project: Camping World Stadium, the site of Pro Bowl 2020 will be powered using "green energy" to reduce the climate impact of Pro Bowl.
Solid Waste Management/Recycling: Comprehensive solid waste management is implemented at all major Pro Bowl facilities including Camping World Stadium and ESPN Wide World of Sports. Effective waste management and recycling efforts significantly reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills. PepsiCo is providing recycle bins to Camping World Stadium and Wide World of Sports to help maximize recycling.
Reforestation: As part of the environmental program for Pro Bowl, Verizon is planting 1,500 trees in the Orlando area at the Withlacoochee River. In honor of the NFL's 100th season, Verizon will also plant 10,000 trees (100 trees for each of the NFL's 100 years) in Econfina River State Park to help reforest this area in the Florida Panhandle, and will plant 100,000 trees in Madagascar to restore ecologically devastated mangrove estuaries and forests and revive natural habitat for endangered animal species.
NFL Green has incorporated environmental projects into the management of Pro Bowl events for twenty years. The NFL Environmental Program is one of a significant number of community initiatives developed each year by the NFL to leave a positive legacy in the Pro Bowl host community.

NFL notebook: Jones tells Falcons he
Wide receiver Julio Jones told the Atlanta Falcons he won’t attend this week’s mandatory minicamp, the team announced Monday.
Atlanta Falcons’ Julio Jones (L) makes a catch for a gain of 19 yards as New England Patriots’ Logan Ryan (C) and Duron Harmon look on during the second quarter at Super Bowl LI in Houston, Texas, U.S., February 5, 2017. REUTERS/Richard Carson
“We have been in contact with Julio and his representation,” general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in a statement. “We will not discuss those conversations publicly except to say we feel they have been productive and constructive. We understand the concerns and thoughts from their perspective.”
According to an ESPN report, Jones’ decision to skip minicamp stems from an unsatisfactory response to a contract proposal in recent weeks. Jones has missed the Falcons’ offseason conditioning program and organized team activities — all of which is voluntary. The minicamp, the team’s final practice before training camp starts in late July, is the only mandatory portion of the offseason, with players who don’t attend subject to fines.
NFL Network reported in May that Jones would like “some sort of correction or update” to his contract — which still has two years remaining — adding that the Falcons are “amenable” to working something out, in part because of how good of a player and teammate Jones is.
—New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman’s impending four-game suspension for performance-enhancing drug use is a result of him testing positive for an “unrecognizable substance,” according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.
Edelman apologized for the positive test in an Instagram post on Friday, saying “I don’t know what happened” and that he has taken “many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has ever happened.”
Breer wrote in his weekly Monday Morning Quarterback column, “I was told Edelman’s result was triggered by a substance that wasn’t immediately recognizable, and there are scientists analyzing it.”
—After participating in last week’s mandatory minicamp, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are expected to skip the Patriots’ organized team activities this week, according to an NFL Network report.
New England is holding its final voluntary OTAs of the offseason Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. After this week, the Patriots won’t reconvene until the start of training camp in late July.
Brady and Gronkowski each missed all of the offseason conditioning program and were absent from the team’s first two weeks of voluntary OTAs.
—Jason Pierre-Paul, a no-show for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ organized training activities, reported to mandatory minicamp.
Pierre-Paul lost out on a workout bonus of $250,000 by staying away from OTAs, which are not mandatory. More important to the coaching staff, he missed an early opportunity to get familiar with the defense under coordinator Mike Smith.
Pierre-Paul, 29, an eight-year veteran, was acquired from the New York Giants in March for a third-round draft pick. He had 8.5 sacks for the Giants last season and has 58.5 in his eight seasons.
—Odell Beckham Jr. is planning to attend the New York Giants’ mandatory minicamp this week, according to an ESPN report.
Seeking a contract extension as he enters the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, Beckham showed for the start of organized team activities — which are voluntary — in May but has been absent for the last two weeks. The minicamp runs from Tuesday to Thursday, with players undergoing physicals Monday, before the team breaks until training camp begins in late July.
Beckham has yet to participate in practice as he recovers from a broken left ankle sustained last season, but head coach Pat Shurmur has said it is possible the receiver will be cleared for minicamp. If he is cleared, whether or not Beckham would participate in on-field work and potentially risk injury before signing an extension is unclear.
—Set to play out the final year of his rookie deal and with no apparent progress on an extension, Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack is not expected to attend the team’s mandatory minicamp this week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
According to Rapoport, the team is prepared for Mack to miss minicamp, which begins Tuesday, and officially become a holdout. The club can fine him a total of $100,000 for not showing for all three days, per NFL.com.
Mack, the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, has 40.5 sacks in his four-year career, including 10.5 last season. He collected a career-best 15 sacks in 2015.
—New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning appreciates the support of current and former teammates after a difficult 2017 season that saw him get benched at one point, but the two-time Super Bowl MVP thinks they might have one thing incorrect: The winning times don’t have to be over yet.
Speaking to USA Today at a charity event in Mount Kisco, N.Y., Manning was specifically reacting to quotes from Shaun O’Hara, the Giants’ center from 2004-2010, who told NJ.com over the weekend, “They’ve wasted the last few years of Eli’s career, they’ve wasted his prime.”
Manning said at a golf tournament for Guiding Eyes of the Blind, which the quarterback has supported for 12 years, “That’s not the way I look at it. And I think I still have some peak years left, so we can make it right.”
—All-Pro right guard Zack Martin will receive a six-year contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys that sets NFL records for annual average and guarantees at his position, according to an NFL Network report.
Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said at a rookie luncheon that the deal was imminent.
Since left tackle Nate Solder signed with the Patriots in free agency averaging $15.5 million per season to become the top-paid blocker in the NFL, 10 offensive linemen make at least $12 million per season. Andrew Norwell, who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency after starting his career with the Carolina Panthers, is the second-highest-paid offensive lineman and the highest-paid guard in the NFL at $13.3 million.
—New Orleans Saints first-round pick Marcus Davenport will undergo thumb surgery in the near future but is expected to be ready for training camp, multiple outlets reported.
According to The New Orleans Advocate’s Nick Underhill, the first to report the news, the injury is “not significant,” and the six weeks Davenport will have to recover before the start of training camp in late July should be enough for him to fully heal.
An NFL Network report deemed it a “minor ligament injury,” adding Davenport will wear a cast for three weeks after surgery and need a few extra weeks to heal.
—Adding some veteran presence to their defensive line, the Oakland Raiders reportedly signed defensive end Frostee Rucker and defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin.
Rucker landed a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Rubin’s agents, Sportstars, tweeted a photo of Rubin with the caption, “Congratulations to Ahtyba Rubin on signing with the @RAIDERS!!! #TUBATIME”

NFL notebook: Brady, Gronkowski reportedly absent from organized…
The New England Patriots began their voluntary offseason training activities program Monday, but quarterback Tom Brady was not expected to be in attendance this week, according to multiple reports.

Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski was also not present at the start of the team’s OTAs on Monday, per NFL Network’s James Palmer. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Brady and Gronkowski both are expected to attend the Patriots’ mandatory minicamp from June 5-7.
Brady, who turns 41 on Aug. 3, is set to make $15 million in 2018, tied with Cam Newton and Philip Rivers for 18th among NFL quarterbacks. He is scheduled to make the same figure in 2019, which currently ties Alex Smith for 21st among signal-callers. Brady will count $22 million against the Patriots’ cap in both seasons, which ranks 11th in 2018 and 14th in 2019.
Gronkowski, who turned 29 a week ago, is scheduled to make a base salary of $8 million per season and has two years left on his contract. Gronkowski and the Patriots are working on a restructure of his contract, according to an NFL Network report.
—Richie Incognito is free to explore the open market after the Buffalo Bills released him from the reserve/retired list.
According to an ESPN report, Incognito told the team he plans to unretire, leading to his release. The four-time Pro Bowler, who started all 48 games during his three seasons with the Bills, now hopes to play elsewhere.
Incognito, who turns 35 in July, suddenly retired last month, citing health concerns from his personal physician, but multiple reports indicated his contract played a major role. Incognito reportedly asked the Bills to address his contract in the days before he posted “I’m done” via Twitter. Since the offseason began, Incognito fired his agent via Twitter and agreed to a pay cut with a base salary of $3.65 million.
—Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has told the team he will not report for OTAs as he seeks a contract extension, according to a report by ESPN.
Donald, who turns 27 on Wednesday, is the league’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year and widely expected to seek a contract that will make him the league’s highest-paid defensive player. He stayed away from the team for the entire 2017 offseason and through training camp, so his absence isn’t a surprise.
Donald is scheduled to earn $6.89 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract in 2018, the final year of his deal. Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller is currently the league’s highest paid defender at six years and $114.5 million, including $70 million guaranteed. The Rams have a three-day mandatory minicamp in June before they officially kick off training camp. Donald attended the mandatory minicamp last year.
—Earl Thomas did not report to the Seattle Seahawks’ facility after previously skipping a voluntary three-day minicamp, sparking concern that a protracted holdout over his contract status might be in the offing.
Head coach Pete Carroll was hopeful Thomas would be back for organized team activities this week, but there is no indication he will be on the field behind middle linebacker Bobby Wagner when the overhauled Seattle defense lines up for OTAs.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that there have been no negotiations between the two sides and no expectation a deal would be discussed soon. Thomas is in the final year of his current contract and has a base salary of $8.5 million.
—One week after the Supreme Court cleared states to regulate sports gambling in a landmark decision, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued a statement addressing the league’s stance.
“As it was for my predecessors, there is no greater priority for me as the Commissioner of the National Football League than protecting the integrity of our sport,” Goodell’s statement begins. “Our fans, our players and our coaches deserve to know that we are doing everything possible to ensure no improper influences affect how the game is played on the field. This week’s ruling by the Supreme Court has no effect on that unwavering commitment.”
FILE PHOTO: New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski speaks after being cleared from concussion protocol and will likely play in this weekend’s Super Bowl in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. February 1, 2018. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque/File Photo
The statement later pushed for “four core principles” in requested uniform standards to Congress: substantial consumer protections, content and intellectual property protections, mandated and reliable league data for fans and proper resources for law enforcement agencies.
—Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre revealed that he went to rehab multiple times in addition to the one well-documented 1996 rehab stint during his playing days.
Favre told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King that he actually went to rehab two other times that were never made public. King reported their conversation in the final installment of his MMQB column, in which he recounted a week he spent with Favre for a cover story for the magazine.
Favre’s lengthy rehab stint in 1996 to deal with his addiction to Vicodin became part of his legend, but he says now that he actually tried to beat his addiction to pills once before and wound up in rehab again later to deal with a drinking problem. “I actually went to rehab three times,” he told King.
—The NFL announced it will not discipline the Detroit Lions or head coach Matt Patricia after reports surfaced about a sexual-assault allegation against the coach.
The 1996 arrest first came to light earlier this month. According to reports, Patricia and a teammate on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute football team were arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault. Patricia was 21 at the time. The case did not go to trial, reportedly because the alleged victim was “unable to testify,” and was dropped in January 1997.
Patricia, 43, denied any wrongdoing when reports first surfaced and the team has expressed support for its new coach throughout. The Lions hired Patricia in February, a day after the New England Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. He had been the Patriots’ defensive coordinator for six seasons.
—The NFL is expected to announce the locations for two more years of the Super Bowl when the owners meet this week in Atlanta.
With the game’s sites through 2022 already awarded, the league will name Arizona as the host for Super Bowl LVII in 2023 and New Orleans as the host the following year, according to the SportsBusiness Journal.
That would make for the fourth time a Super Bowl has been hosted in Arizona and a league-high 11th time for New Orleans. Miami, which will host the Super Bowl after the 2019 season, will also have hosted the game 11 times.
—First-round pick Billy Price signed his rookie contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, the club announced.
Price was the 21st overall pick in the 2018 draft and landed a four-year deal with a fifth-year team option covering the 2022 season. The four-year deal is worth around $10 million. A four-year starter and two-time All-American for the Buckeyes, Price played left guard, right guard and center.
Price sustained a partially torn pectoral during bench press drills at the NFL Scouting Combine on March 1, but following surgery, Price’s surgeon sent a letter to all 32 NFL teams with a projection for a full recovery in no more than two months.
