My artwork draws heavily from personal life experiences with trauma, poverty, and mental illnesses. Striving to maintain optimism and humor for mental well-being, I find inspiration in childhood book authors and illustrators like Edgar Valter and Tove Jansson. My preferred techniques, childishly, include comics and animation. I see myself as living the life of a tragicomic character; adversity shapes the narrative and brings joy to someone. Absurd and depressing incidents, experiences, and phenomena often look good on paper. Transforming experiences into artwork, I become both the creator and the first reader. My first job was as a cashier at Comarket, a retail chain that no longer exists. The cat from the logo serves as a simple self portrait, as if that job shaped me into that identity permanently, given that my only paid job is still in retail. The idea of working a cash register for the rest of my life fills me with existential dread and drains all hope for a bright future. Anyway, I value traditional tools on paper, from pencil to pen, as well as various printmaking techniques from aquatint to screen printing. When it comes to drawing, I prefer the very permanent, unerasable line of a ballpoint pen, because pencil annoys me with its habit of getting blurry over time and infecting other drawings. The unique line of a ballpoint pen inspired my Bachelor's degree thesis, where I filled a roll-on deodorant with ink and used it as a large pen.

Eestiblr meetup 2024

So! If you want to meet a few other eestiblr people and/or socialize in a relaxed environment and/or prefer to just shove your face full of pancakes and run, here's your opportunity:

Saturday, 24th August 2024 from 18:00 in Nõmme, Tallinn, Estonia

Basic rules and expectations: - arrive whenever, leave whenever - bring your +1 if they're cool with a room full of dweebs people with refined tastes in meme culture - we'll probably wrap it up around midnight, sometimes a smaller group stays longer in a more quiet environment - I'll make pancakes, but it's semi-potluck-y so if you want, bring something to share with others (fruit, jam, spreads, nuts, chips, home cooked/baked things, but either way don't over do it + don't worry if you can't bring anything) - there might be 12-25 people, most of them from Tumblr, all of them are chill - usually people just organically form smaller groups and talk about random stuff, there's no forced games / socializing / spotlighting - there will be background music but no dancing, sorry, I don't hate my neighbours - no smoking no vaping no weed smorking girlfriends - there will be two cats! with 8 legs total - BYOB but preferably keep the alcohol consumption low - no fuckboys / don't hit on guests / it's not that kind of party

How to get there: - buses 18, 33, 10, 27 (J.V. Jannseni, Põllu, Metsa, Hiiu Jaam) - train (Hiiu) - if you're considering coming, I'll send the exact address via DM here or on facebook or instagram or discord - due to everyone's busy schedules, if there's enough interest, we can do a smaller meetup maybe on 7th Sempteber in a cafe or a picnic/potluck somewhere outside (Kadriorg?) if it's nice

On the first big eestiblr meetup last year we had 20 people, and while I don't expect quite that many this time, I'm glad to report that it worked really well (for a room full of internet randos) so I hope we'll repeat the vibe and see some familiar + some new faces. thanks @cantthinkofagood-name for the tips, I guess if you search for groups with "Annan ära" in name, you might find others for other locations, although it seems many of them are mostly just marketplaces, with very rare "giving away" posts in between.

Sometimes there are also separate book swap groups, reciprocal teaching/learning groups, language practice groups, and similar.
