Safe Sex Resource

A lot of the time, in our writings online, we don’t always show our characters practicing safe sex (whether for narrative flow or other reasons) and will just add in our author’s notes to practice safe sex in your real life. It can be hard to find good and concise information online so I have compiled this for authors to link in their notes. I recommend everyone take a look, there might be something in here you didn't already know.

This post is largely inspired by @fakejuly who shared a lot of their knowledge and advice from their years in the sw industry, and from my own experience creating curriculums for and teaching sex & relationship education.

I have tried to make it as inclusive as possible, please let me know if you have any feedback. If you spot something I missed, please let me know. I will be updating this periodically. My inbox is also always open if you have any questions/concerns/etc.

"Condoms prevent STIs and pregnancy in the vast majority of cases, when used correctly." 

Using a condom correctly and consistently can increase its efficacy from 87% to 98%. Most surveyed individuals are not using it correctly or consistently so make sure you are well-informed. We hear this all the time, but what does “used correctly” actually mean?

Familiarize yourself with the steps.

Using the right size: if it's too big, it can slide off or leak; if it's too small, it can break or come off. Condoms usually come in 5 sizes (there are options like MyONE that have 52 sizes).

Condoms can be damaged by heat. They should be kept somewhere cool (not in wallets, or sat on in back pockets, or kept in your glovebox). They also have an expiry date. 

Sex can also lead to friction (heat) so condoms should be changed between activities and after about 15 minutes of any vigorous activity.

Never double up (i.e. wearing two condoms or using both an external and an internal condom).

Use lube 100% of the time (except oral sex), even if you think you don't need it, even for "lubricated" condoms (the lube mainly stops it sticking to itself). Lube should be applied to the outside, but a drop in the tip of the condom before putting it on is also a good idea.

NEVER use oil-based lube or any type of oil (e.g. lotion, vaseline, coconut oil). Water based lube is the best option. Silicone based lube can be good for sex in water (e.g. shower, pool, bath) or providing more sustaining slip, but be careful near your sex toys (more on this later).

Penetrative partners should hold the base of the condom when they pull out immediately after they ejaculate so the condom doesn't leak or come off as the penis gets flaccid.

For oral sex (vulval or anal), you should use a barrier. You can make one out of a condom. (There are also companies like Loral that make latex “underwear” that have great sensation transfer and are a very good barrier for AFAB individuals).

Sharing sex toys: Most of the sex toy safety recommends "don't share them ever" which unfortunately is impractical for some people.

If more than one person is going to use the toy (within a session or between different sessions), use a condom.

Condoms are often coated in a thin layer of silicone lube. This can react with low-quality silicone toys - there are unlubricated condoms for those - but higher-quality (platinum cured) silicone should be fine. When in doubt, spot test on the base of the toy.

As with above, always use water-based lube. 

Condoms have not been proven to protect you from mold that the toy may be harboring or toxic chemicals from low-quality materials (e.g. jelly toys).

Due to the variable efficacy of condoms, for individuals where pregnancy is a concern, it is recommended to also be using the pill, injection, IUD, etc.

Condoms (internal or external) are the only prevention for STIs. This isn't meant to be stressful - the most common STIs are treatable and often curable (more on this later).

STIs can be transmitted via fluids AND skin contact, so use condoms when you’re engaging in oral sex, hand stuff or sharing sex toys, in addition to penetrative sex.

STIs can be transmissible via any of your fluid membranes, that includes your mouth, throat, nose, and eyes.

Condoms are extremely effective against HIV, and reasonably effective against chlamydia and gonorrhea. Contracting chlamydia and gonorrhea is not the end of the world, it is curable with antibiotics but you can also be asymptomatic.

Condoms aren’t as effective at preventing herpes (symptomatically will manifest as open sores) and HPV (symptomatically will manifest as genital warts). 

Everyone who is able to should get the HPV vaccine, regardless of gender or sexuality. HPV is the most common STI. Most cases resolve on their own within 2 years, but for those that don’t, it can lead to cancers of the cervix, vagina, vulva, penis, anus and throat. Almost all cervical cancers are caused by HPV. The vaccine is extremely effective.

Even if you believe you have been safe and are asymptomatic, get tested regularly. At least once a year. (Even if you are in a long term monogamous relationship).

In summary:

Try your best to be safe but in real life, shit happens, so at least stick to these three things: 1) know your safety boundaries prior to sex and don't change them for anybody, 2) talk/ask about STI status before anything begins, and 3) get tested regularly.

CONSENT IS MANDATORY.

Communication is what makes sex good. Talking about sex is sexy. :)

"So that's a... car thing..."

It's a lot bigger than she expected. It's a bright red hotrod, something from the 1970s, not that Youmu would know that. All she can tell is that the thing is longer and sturdier looking than she'd expected it to be.

Lumbering closer, Myon circling around it like a curious dog, Youmu pushed both of her hands down on the hood. Yukari had told her that a car could be surprisingly bouncy, and even though it took a bit of effort, she could make the overtuned suspension sway back and forth.

Grabbing her belly, huffing, Youmu readied herself. Hauling it up, dropping it onto the hood, the entire hot rod rocked forward, front tires squeaking as her gigantic stomach flopped against it. Wriggling forward, letting her belly creep across the surface, Youmu kept getting closer until she felt her thighs touch the car.

Now that she was closer enough, the half-ghost took a deep breath. Slowly, carefully, Youmu lifted up one of her pillar like legs. Her knee could barely bend it was so ringed with blubber, but she could just manage to get it on the edge of the car. Leaning forward, fat palms slapping against the windscreen, Youmu's couch sized butt wobbled back and forth as she tried to sway her weight forward. With a yelp, Youmu lifted her other leg up as quickly as she could, bringing both her knees onto the hood.

The car groaned loudly as it bore Youmu's full weight, a loud Bang! muffled beneath Youmu's gut as the hood caved inwards. The car was far from broken, though.

Awkwardly shuffling along her hands and knees, gut dragging over the windscreen and completely obscuring the inside of the vehicle, Youmu made her way to the roof. Every movement she made rocked the suspension, the axles of the car loudly creaking. She could hear the sounds of small parts shearing off and breaking, but the structure of the car wasn't compromised yet.

Reaching the roof, Youmu rotated onto her side. This was the riskiest part, her butt sagging off one side of the roof as her belly flopped over the other edge, but she kept her balance. Clumsily using her arms and legs, Youmu managed to turn far enough to get her hips back underneath her. Finally, with a thump, Youmu was seated on the roof.

She had just enough time to realize that she could fill the interior seating front to back and door to door, before...

...crn...

Crrrnnnkkkk!!!

Yelping as her weight settled down, Youmu's arms flailed as the thin metal supports to the roof started to bend outwards. The glass windsheild popped out, bouncing off the dented hood to shatter on the ground below. Falling backwards, her butt kept squishing down the roof.

"Ah!"

Bending out the frame of the doors, they swung open, flapping wide as the car's interior rapidly crumbled. Seats folded flat, stuffing popping out as Youmu's sheer heft turned the upholstery into balloons. Plastic crumpled and squished as the horn started to sound, the steering wheel flattening under Youmu's thigh. Feet kicking into the air as she leaned backwards into the dent she was making, her struggles only made it worse. The tires popped one by one as her weight rocked side to side, loud bangs as more pieces were broken off. The hood flung itself open, acting as a footrest for her raised legs, but also tipping her back even further.

Laying on her back, Youmu blinked as she felt herself come to a stop in the ruined car. Headlights flashing, smoke rising from the engine, wiper fluid spitting into the air, it was thoroughly flattened. The body was completely on the ground, the popped tires bending outwards from how much pressure had been put on them.

"That... was..."

Wiggling her huge ass, hearing what few metal pieces hadn't been broken start to creak again, Youmu blushed.

"Wow..."

shes got two of them actually, a katana (roukanken) and a wakizashi (hakurouken); frankly i expect she's been submitted already, but in case the touhou fans are asleep i must submit our collective favorite myon for us. please vote for her she is trying her best

She's a half-human half-ghost that comes from a long line of sword wielders. Youmu actually has two blades. The first is Roukanken, which has the ability to cut through ten ghosts at once. Her other sword named Hakurouken, and it can slice through confusion itself.

The things her blade Roukanken, forged by youkai, cannot cut are next to nothing! Also she offhands a wakizashi and when she isn't cutting bullets to make more bullets she's using her swords to garden.

It's pretty common to see ghosts around the grounds of Hakugyokuro. In the middle of her gardening activities, the fit and sleek woman leans down. Youmu chuckles as she watches the spirit wriggle along the floor. It really isn't anything she's seen before, a lot more solid looking than Myon was. Seeing it bounce and jiggle, she gave it a poke.

It didn't seem to like that. Shaking rapidly, Youmu blinked in surprise as it quivered. Before she could react, it leapt up.

Right into her mouth.

Yelping, only opening her mouth wider, Youmu panicked as she waved her hands to try and pry it off. Her fingers slipped through the gooey creature, failing to latch on as it pushed itself down her throat.

"Gaaahhh....mmmmwwwkkkffff..."

Choking and sputtering through the thick goop, Youmu's body started to thicken up as she kept flailing. Belly ballooning outwards, buttons burst on her dress as she grew rounder, gut sagging forward as it tore away at her outfit. Her hips ballooned out as well, surging with fat, skirt tearing away as her blubbery butt blew up. Tubby arms wheeled through the air as the ghost wiggled down her throat.

Belching, Youmu crashed down onto her butt, blubbery ass and thick thighs cushioning her landing. Tubby face gasping for air, the gardener ran a hand over her gut as it wobbled between her legs.

A Brief Guide to Mewling

Mewling, or as its referred to by the mews as either 'Myukox' if you're a grandpa or 'Ḿaw' if you're a slightly younger grandpa, is my first ever language i've ever made by process of linguistic evolution. So it's weird and at times blaringly novice but it gets the job done. Getting into some linguistic jargon, it's a polysynthetic agglutinative language with free word order. The writing system is a logography (like chinese) that's written top to bottom, left to right. I'm gonna divide everything up for the sake of convenience

Sounds

These are the sounds in it:

you can use this website to specifically hear what each sound sounds like but for the most part everything is BASICALLY pronounced how it's written. For reference of some not immediately intuitive ones (in reference to the perspective of english speakers), ill gloss over those.

/ɸ/ and /β/ are like f and v but instead of using your upper lip and bottom set of teeth, you use both your lips. It's blowing but with a purpose.

/t͡s/ is exactly what it looks like. just a ts sound

/t͡ʃ/ is just ch

/x/ is like the ch in loch or the gh in ugh. that kinda throaty sound you know the one.

/j/ is actually y

/ŋ/ is like the ng in sing (its pretty rare tho in mewling so dw abt it too much)

/ʃ/ is just sh

The syllable structure is (F)CVC where F equals a fricative (s, z, f, v, sh, j, and x), C means any consonant, and V means vowel. The stress pattern is weird but the rule is stress always falls on either the last syllable (in words with only two syllables) or the third syllable from the end (in words with more than two syllables) UNLESS the second syllable from the right ends in a consonant in which that case it will be the one stressed instead.

Syntax

Mewling has free word order meaning that you can shove a word anywhere in the sentence and it would be understood the same. 'the man ate the orange', 'the orange at the man', or 'the man the orange ate' would all be understood to mean the same thing because mewling changes the words based on if its the subject of the sentence or the object. But by default mewling is subject-object-verb, meaning the verb almost always is at the end of the sentence (like in japanese or latin). Adjectives go before nouns, prepositions go after nouns, auxiliary verbs go after the main verb.

Grammar

Mewling is actually kinda fun imo with this. Mewling is agglutinative so when it makes new words it does so by taking smaller words and putting them together. 'ki' (this) + 'mar' (land) = kimar (place). 'ere' (give) + 'tos' (knowledge) = eretos (teach) and so on and so forth. Pretty straightforward. English does this too esp with words w germanic origins: birthday, butterfly, notebook, rainbow, honeycomb, bathroom, etc etc.

Now for nouns, their pronunciation changes depending on their noun case, which is a type of suffix (in this case) that acts kind of like what a preposition does in english. for example:

netal (the tree)

netalotso (at the tree)

netaler (in the tree)

netala (away from the tree)

netalova (towards the tree)

etc etc so on and so forth. Now some noun case do grammar stuff. The subject has no special suffix but it's usually at the beginning of the sentence so it's whatever. The object, the word that's receiving the action of the verb, uses the suffix '-n' or '-on' depending on the word. so in this sentence

Myu miron moraf (the mew eats the fruit)

It goes 'the mew' (subject) 'the fruit' object 'eats' (verb). The fruit is what's being eaten by the mew, it's being affected by the action. Now you could even put the object in front

Miron myu moraf

And it would mean the same thing, because the fruit is still marked as the subject. But if you made the fruit the subject

Mir myon moraf (The fruit eats the mew)

THEN that'd actually change the meaning. english doesn't really do this, we just know which is which because the subject is always before the verb and the object is always after. but doing this allows mewling to be able to change its word order to express different kinds of sentences.

Now verbs were the hardest part to create but GOD is this part fun. the verbs conjugate for tense (time), mood (specific action or meaning), and agree with both the subject AND the object (usually languages will choose one or the other). It has a past, present, and future, and you can add a whole bunch of suffixes to make the verbs specific. for example:

tos (know)

toslan (knew)

tosfas (will know)

and you can make REALLY long words like this

wemokorwanfunolanisolirikorcharaywamapikorusatif (which means something along the lines of "if (this) wouldn't have wanted to accidently been made to need to have started to continue to be able to constantly be improving (by me)" or something like that) tho its rare and more comical than anything to get THIS long. i could talk all day about the verbs but i'll add one more thing.

Mewling has three pronouns: mi (i) pa (you) and yo (they). these are usually changed up with whatever noun case it needs but since the verb changes to show both the subject AND the object the language becomes pro-drop, ie the pronouns can be dropped from the sentence entirely because the verbs make them redundant. for example:

Mi pan maso (I see you) is grammatically correct but more often than not it would be shortened to just 'Moso' because the verb already says that I'm the one seeing you. the pronouns are unnecessary. this in turn allows someone to say an entire sentence in just one word. very useful.

IN CONCLUSION i was really really really REALLY just summarizing cuz i didnt even get into things like relative clauses or sentence reordering for conjunctions or specific cultural notes of the language BUT i hope this'll give at least a smidgen of an idea of how much work i put into this. if you ever want me to translate something don't be afraid to ask too, at this point i could pretty much translate almost anything lol. But for now, sonapatan pafu nenampinon iyer (thanks for reading).

Gone, but Not Forgotten

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I laid the black flower on top of the casket, crafted from the finest materials that the community could gather. I quickly wiped my face, knowing that only heaven and God truly understood how I felt right now. He was gone, and there was nothing I could do about it. No amount of pain or prayer could change that.

Myon's face was everywhere. I saw him in t-shirts, on phones, in photographs, and sometimes, in disbelief, even in the faces of those around me. He was my friend, my soul, my heart—my everything. His smile was always wide, and happiness sparkled in his eyes. His charm made you feel like you were the only person in the world. Oh, how I miss his hugs, his advice, and the laughter that could make a thousand children dance to the melody of his voice. I long for his presence in this world, now gone, and I know he will never return until it’s my turn to join him up there, where we will join hands and become one again.

His skin was as brown as the warm summer sand in the desert, and his height towered over everyone, making him stand out. He was a laid-back man, wasn’t he? Only God and the heavens above know the depths of my pain that I struggle to show the world. He taught me patience, love, forgiveness, and most of all, he taught me about myself.

It only took a gun pressed to the back of his head for him to freeze and beg for his life, robbed of his integrity, heart, soul, and life. How could anyone be so evil as to take a life that was not theirs to take? The pain I feel is overwhelming, refusing to allow me to see any light. God said, “When I’m ready for you, I will send for you,” but I think He made a mistake. Maybe it was too soon, and this is all just a misunderstanding. I keep hoping I will wake up and hear Myon’s voice when I call his cell.

Only heaven and God know my pain. This is the anguish of a friend, a soulmate, and my other incomplete half.

Gone, Gone with the wind, gone like dust. Yet, in spirit, he will live on through the community he was so violently taken from.
