Well, shit.

I did it.

I actually did it.

93,000 words later (10% of them in the extra long last chapter WOWEEE) and I finished* my Same Weird Family post S2 spec fic series a whole two days before my self-imposed deadline of Season 3 Season 4.

(I've made my peace with S3 on Netflix and genuinely enjoy some bits of it but really, I still kinda secretly like my idea better. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong I'm here for all of it.)

So, with no further ado, here you go. First link is to the final chapter for anyone patient enough to have stuck around 6 months awaiting that (bless you).

Submissions for Masked Mermay are officially closed, and the guessing period is upon us! As a reminder, the guessing period will run until May 26th. This one has horror themes. The umbrella academy gets back from the 60’s and Five starts to look into murders that have happened. There’s bits of character analysis and is overall a really good fic. Has psychological torture, regular torture, scenes of addiction, definitely read the tags.

Klaus and Diego fic. People always assume they are together so they use that to their advantage. Not a ship, just brothers fucking around with people. Seriously, they aren’t together in the fic at all, it’s all just jokes. 4/4 chapters

My Darling Clementine (1946)

What makes My Darling Clementine special is that it isn’t like other westerns. This film does not focus on shootouts (though it does contain a rather spectacular one towards the end). Its attention is directed towards the characters' humanity. I like to think of it as the sequel to every generic western story. It expands and then surpasses them.

After the murder of his youngest brother, Wyatt Earp (Henry Fonda) settles down to bring law to a lawless town. Just as he begins to enjoy a nice quiet life thanks to the beautiful Clementine (Cathy Downs), the spirit of the west and personal vendettas catch up to him. By the end of it, we’ll see Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday (Victor Mature) gear up for the legendary shootout at the O.K. Corral.

This movie begins and ends like a traditional western, but the middle almost fools you into thinking it’s something else. After his brother's murder, Wyatt Earp decides to take up the vacant sheriff job in the town of Tombstone. He doesn’t want to. He’s been there before, taking down the bad guys, throwing the troublemaking drunks in jail, facing death at every turn. He’s sick of it but that's his calling. To his surprise, life in Tombstone agrees with him. There’s a glimmer of hope as his rough exterior gradually melts away. You forget that the movie isn’t about this charming romance. You believe it when these people say that they’ve had enough of this lawlessness associated with the Wild West. You desperately want it to have a happy ending… but it’s like Earp has been cursed. He can’t escape the Wild West because he embodies everything about it. In a way, the film is a tragedy. These people want to put lawlessness behind them but the Wild West is determined to have the last laugh.

The way Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp, Clementine, Doc Holiday’s squeeze Chihuahua (Linda Darnell) are brought to life is incredible. In so many scenes it’s not what people say, it’s how they say it, how they give each other a look or even stand next to each other in the bar that tells you what they stand for. These are living, breathing people, they’re not a collection of lines read by actors. Though it predates it by 30+ years, My Darling Clementine has the same level of emotional investment as Titanic. It’s a true story, so you know where it’s going. What you’re not prepared for is that moment when you realize you've forgotten about the real-life facts you knew coming in. These people are no longer statistics and names in a history book. They’re real.

My Darling Clementine is one of the best Westerns out there, a film that gets better the more familiar you are with the genre. The beautiful black-and-white cinematography, the character development, the way the actors are framed, the little moments they’re all given to foreshadow what comes next, the charisma and chemistry on display, it all builds up towards a shootout that’s like a crack of lightning. My Darling Clementine is an instant favourite. (On DVD, April 15, 2016)

Yojimbo: A Journey Through Genre Film [Noir - Western - Samurai - Italo-Western - Ganster] ~America to Japan to Italy and back to America~ 🗝️🇺🇲🤠👘🇯🇵🍝🇮🇹🕴️🇻🇮 I decided to take a movie journey through genre, based around Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo. Starting with what he stated as inspirations- Dashiell Hammett's The Glass Key (Noir; 1942), John Ford's westerns, My Darling Clementine & The Searchers (Westerns; 1946 & 1956). Then onto Yojimbo itself (Samurai; 1961). To make this orange sweet drink do the following: Add 2 Clementine wedges to a cocktail shaker along with a couple fine grates of the fresh ginger. Muddle well until all the clementines have been pressed and the juice released. Add ice to the shaker along with 3 oz vodka and 1 1/2 oz St. Germain. As y'all can probably tell by my mad flurry of posts lately, I'm absolutely reeling from the poor writing and characterization and overall....decisions....made in s4.

I've been feeling raw and visceral need to read and write angsty comfort fics. So here's my ongoing contribution of injured-Five hanging around with his family one shots. Technically they're epilogues to another fic, but they can also be read as fluff.

🧜‍♀️ Mermay Masqueraders Unmasked!! 🧜‍♀️

Thank you all so much for a great Round Four of TUA Masked Author (this time with art)! We had some amazing Mermay-themed submissions as well as plenty of amazing masqueraders who followed their own muses. This was the first round that we opened submissions up to art, and we so appreciate all the artists who participated. We had a total of 23 submissions (17 fics and 6 pieces of art), submitted by 17 total masqueraders.
