I wish I could enjoy other Cross ships but I genuinely don't want to or care for them. I tried.
Cross and Dream are such an adorable duo if handled right. They're beautiful together! Maybe I'm being a bit biased because they fulfill some tropes I like (mortal x immortal for example) but it's the only relationship that makes sense for Cross, FOR ME.
The old Cream comic is... weird, a product too outdated for what the characters in it really are. And in fact the reason I got interested in them was Underverse.
I don't know if their relationship would be strictly romantic but it doesn't need to be! What is certain is that the relationship was slow and took some time to settle. You can't tell me that Cross didn't have problems trusting again after everything that happened and Dream carries the fear of people loving an idealized fantasy of him and not the flawed and broken being that he really is.
Some like to play with the idea that Cross has Dream on a pedestal and is madly obsessed with protecting him.
I say it's possible that Cross had a first impression like that that faded as he got to know Dream a lot better. Cross coming to understand that Dream is just as vulnerable as he is is fundamental to their dynamic. Relationships are about equal partners! Idealizing your partner won't do any good, mainly because it leads to habitual self-loathing. It's good for both of them to know that they can trust each other.
Dream learns that it's possible to be truly loved despite his mistakes, and that what he does is enough. He's lived a long time trying to please everyone, he's been used as a means to happiness on numerous occasions by the most ungrateful people. It would be nice if Cross helped him understand with his affection, romantic or platonic, that Dream can put himself first too when necessary.
And learn to live and move on despite everything, and enjoy the simplicity of life.

PLAYLIST/SONG: Bad - Michael Jackson
[author's note is at the end!]
"We're closed."
"No, you're not. I still have a few more minutes left."
A thud rang through the walls: exasperated, your forehead slammed into the shelf in front of you, where various cameras and lenses were placed immaculately.
It was ten minutes before the closing of the shop, you were mentally and physically tapped out, so dealing again with people wasn't part of your plans for the evening. You were on the verge of freaking out on a daily basis, but that day was more stressful than usual, 'cause there would be a big event in the city, hence you had to serve a crew who were in charge of filming the occasion. And of course, they were demanding.
"It's part of human decency not to show up at closing time." You weren't afraid to fight back, on the contrary it made you feel satisfied if it were a debate you could easily win.
"And I don't care. I just need a new battery for my camera, then I'll head out." The man did in fact not care, 'cause before you could blink he was right in front of your very eyes, in all his height, staring down at you. He must have figured out where your voice came from.
It wasn't his fault, he forgot to check the battery status of his camera as time passed, in consequence it burned right after he took the last picture he needed. But you didn't need to know that, you weren't his friend and it's not like he was that keen on explaining himself, especially to strangers. So he kept staring with his unflinching gaze waiting for you to finally move and get him what he wanted. In which he was, obviously, pleased; it was part of your job, you could not fail in your duties even if you didn't like the attitude of a customer.
And you didn't like at all the man's behavior, your left eye was trembling with anger.
Not saying a single word though, you retraced your steps, directed to the section where you could find the cameras' batteries, and picked some of them, not sure which camera he had.
You went back to the cashier's desk, expecting to find the guy already there, if he was a little bit perceptive. You found out that he was in fact, perceptive. If your best friends were there, you would've asked them if they could slap the living shit out of you, 'cause there was no way you actually thought so low of a stranger, you weren't usually like this.
"Just pick the one you need and then please, go away." Your voice sounded exasperated while watching him picking the right battery, so he said nothing, at least he seemed to have understood you were really tired and not able to deal with him. A small 'thank god' resonated in your head while you were putting his things in your shop's bag, and handed it to him, with a circumstantial smile plastered on your face.
"That's what I said earlier after all, Miss.Happiness. And nice bump over there, on your forehead." A wink before he could vanish after the sliding doors. You were wrong, and he was already gone.
Again, you slammed your head on the countertop.
"I'm telling you 'Ning, he walked in like he was the owner of my shop. Pretentious and everything, you know how I hate that shit." Out of breath, you kept walking down the street, right where the event would be held.
It was your day off of the week, this is why you were strolling around, with one of your best friends on a call, and also 'cause this was one of the roads that led faster to your house.
"But I swear to god herself, I was this close to pulling out his vertebrae one by one, and use them to play fucking hockey in my fucking backyard." The tone of your voice went from angry to calmer than two seconds before, 'cause maybe now, you were too distracted by your surroundings.
Several teams were working fast in front of your figure: there were those who were setting up the stage, others the street, which was decorated with various electric cables covering the asphalt, and the trees were decorated too with small lights and colored ribbons. Videocameras were placed on both sides of the stage and in front of it, for different perspectives. So many led spotlights for distinct purposes.
Everything about that deeply fascinated you.
"He was also pretty. Don't pry, this is why I refrained myself 'Ning." Your distraction made you lose the control of the tongue. And even your thoughts. 'Cause yes, he was indeed a good-looking man: the way his black hair fell on his forehead, right on top of his piercing dark eyes too, caught the air in your throat, and it made you to freeze on the spot without a single thought in that head of yours the day before.
Not to mention his deep voice and his tanned skin, the latter got you the urge to trace every inch of it with your own hands, if not lips. You didn't know yet, but if there was one thing you surely knew, it was that his eyes were exactly on you. In that exact moment.
The necessity to disappear in a split second far exceeded any other desire you ever had, but it didn't seem like it was too much to ask, because soon enough an electric cable got in your way, causing you to fall down and make out with the road. Maybe you should have done what was written on the ban sign, which was not to get too close.
You even saw him moving from his position to approach you.
"I'm fucked." Groaning in pain you quickly stood up, fixing your now dirty clothes. You heard Ningning saying a 'you wish, bestie', before you could close the call.
How outrageous.
"Was the asphalt telling you a secret or what?"
"Okay, first of all I saw money on the ground and I wanted to pick them up. Second of all, fuck you, you basketball hoop." A finger pointed at his chest.
It did feel good going for his throat now that you didn't have to be professional for your job.
"This explains for sure why you panicked when I noticed you. Did I, perhaps, make you flatter, pretty girl?" He smirked while crossing his long legs to lean against the barrier behind him.
You surprisingly took your sweet time to let your gaze embrace his full body in the meantime he was talking, understanding what he was actually saying, but you decided to briefly ignore him.
It wasn't your fault if he was dressing prettily, the black skinny jeans were literally hugging his long legs, enhanced by the suede boots he was wearing, and the white shirt was doing god's work. You shook your head and took a few steps away from where he was standing in all of his glory.
"Are you Ryan Reynolds?" You crossed your arms to your chest.
"Damn, I wish."
"Keanu Reeves?" You tried again looking him deadly in the eyes.
"Of course not?"
"Lee Dongwook?"
"...Are you slandering me?" He spread his arms exasperated.
"Then watch your mouth, nameless boy, I know the game you're on." You grimaced.
"Donghyuck. And believe it or not, you know nothing, doll."
He was no fun.
It was as if an iceberg suddenly had taken his place; his glacier tone remained in your mind for a while, and you kept following him with your eyes until he returned to his previous spot, now with his camera's lace around his nape.
You couldn't lie, he was sexy as fuck, but you truly couldn't understand what was that. You guys had just a little to a nonexistent conversation in these two days, and it was mostly insults and cold comebacks, so you didn't understand why he was trying to hit on you. It wasn't like you weren't attractive enough, indeed quite the opposite, but guys like that were known as troublemakers, and you'd rather be a snippy bitch than to get hurt for this kind of game.
Sighing, you decided it was time to go home and rest before it was too late, the next day would still be a working day for you.
You only hoped these three weeks would pass quickly, 'cause it was bright as the sun that you had to see Donghyuck every day.
Donghyuck. You tasted the name on your tongue. That motherfucker had a pretty name too.
Ningning were on your left, Yeri on your right, and Chenle and Renjun were walking in front of you. According to Chenle, staying on the same line as Ningning would lead them into a fight. You'd swear they'd get together sometime soon, they were just momentarily blind.
You and your friends were coming back from the shopping centre, now heading to your house for a sleepover, so walking down that street was necessary if y'all didn't want to add another ten minutes to your little trip.
"Please guys, act normal, we're getting close to where he works for the event." Days prior you ended up freaking out in your best friends group chat about Donghyuck, telling them how confusing and unnerving he was, 'cause in one moment he was flirty, and in the next one he was cold as a mint popsicle forgotten in the freezer for years. Let alone his look, they had to put up with you 'cause you couldn't stop drooling all over him. So they insisted on seeing him.
"You're talking like we can embarrass you, come one now, Y/n." Chenle gave you a side eye before he could turn around again as you watched him in disbelief.
"Renjun? Chenle?" A distant high-pitched voice called the names of your friends. Confused you all turned towards the direction of it, and you almost gasped audibly.
"Yo, Haechan!" The three of them exchanged a nod of acknowledge, followed by a handshake as if they were companions of a lifetime.
"Miss. Happiness. Do you still have the money you found on the floor last time?"
You mouthed him a 'fuck you, giraffe.' and he fucking smirked at you for the second time in these last days, then he greeted the girls as if it was nothing and returned to the boys for a chitchat.
"And now what the fuck he means by Haechan?!" You whispered in panic to Yeri and Ningning, while the both of them just laughed and shrugged you off. Of course they couldn't know.
A few moments later, they finished their gossiping and Renjun and Chenle returned to where you girls where standing waiting for them, luckily it was late afternoon so you didn't have to wait under the scorching sun in the middle of the summer.
Donghyuck seemed to get you were a close friend of his two best friends, so he actually got convinced and before he could get back to his work, he explained to y'all how he ended up working in such place: two of his other buddies, Johnny and Kun you recalled, were searching for some help for the event they were working for, and he happened to be good with the camera, so he accepted the offer also because he wouldn't mind working with his friends.
A stark contrast from what he seemed to be. You really didn't know anything about him, and you knew it was wrong to judge a book by its cover, so maybe you should given him a pass and had fun without overthinking things too much. In the end it shouldn't have been anything too serious.
"Don't tell me he's the Donghyuck you told us.. and what kind of money was he talking about?" Renjun just let his eyes come out of his sockets as he bumped into you with his shoulder. You groaned like you were in actual pain, not wanting to remember any part of that.
"I fell in front of his eyes a week and a half ago, and at that time I just came up with a lame excuse, saying I didn't fall but found money on the ground, instead." You whined while looking at your feet kicking a tiny pebble. "Don't ask me anything else, this is awkward enough." A loud laugh and various 'always the same' 'you're so clumsy' and a 'so gawky' emerged from the small circle of your friends, and they were on a thin ice 'cause you almost smacked every one of them.
"I can't believe he actually gave you his government name. He won't even let us call him like that."
"Renjun's right, i think he's hitting on you for real, Y/n."
"Yeah, okay, but I don't understand why he's doing this?" You gawked at the boys in front of you like they had two heads each and their body was united together, but again, no answer as they shrugged you off before entering your home and make themselves comfortable.
You guys were dispersed around your living room, now chugging on your beers while debating on which game to play or what movie to watch together.
"If Y/n wins at rock paper scissors, we'll watch again John Wick with her, if only one of the three of us wins instead, Y/n's gonna try to give Haechan a chance and be friend with him." You scoffed at Renjun. And to say you thought he was the only one on your side.
Un-fucking-believable.
Your competitive spirit kicked in, and at their signal you threw your choice. Scissors. You cheered on your victory swinging your fists in the air while your feet were stamping on the carpet. Yeri just threw paper, Ningning scissors too, and Renjun the same as Yeri.
One moment.
Your cheerings came to a stop, and Chenle gave you a sympathetic look.
"I lost, didn't I?" Emotionless voice, as you couldn't believe what you saw.
"Yeah."
"...We can still watch John Wick together, Y/n." Your wails were the only sound echoing in the room, as you sat down on your couch already searching for your favorite movie on your streaming platforms.
Would have been the fucking bare minimum, assholes.
"Chenle, I'll take Daegal out every day for a month." You prayed him with your eyes from your spot in the middle of the movie.
"Not happening."
"I'll do the chores at yours for the rest of the summer."
"Appealing."
"So it's a yes?" Your voice was exuding hope.
"No dice."
Goddamit.
Another week passed.
You were taking easy the whole Donghyuck-Haechan situation, and though it may seem strange, you were trying to be more loose around him. Starting by smiling and waving in his direction, or making small conversations when you had to go through the street where he was working, he noticed that, and seemed to admire it, since he always greeted you back, and from time to time he too took the initiative, which you treasured heartily.
One day he even unexpectedly came to your shop to give you coffee, making you at a loss for words. No one had ever done such a thing for you, and the coffee was just perfect to say the least.
"I just tried to guess what your favorite coffee was, so I went to the cafeteria down the road earlier, and bought you one." He would've said smiling at you. Not a smirk, or a lipped smile. A full smile. And his smile was so- it made the air inside your lungs dissipate, basically.
Aside from that, you actually spent willingly the rest of that morning with him in your store concentrate on the different cameras and their lenses. He was so endearing wrapped up with the things you loved too.
God, what the hell was that.
You soon found out that he was undoubtedly an amusing, witty and smart person. Quite the opposite of the façade he put on when you first met, the sleazy flirt was still there, but the cold surface was starting to melt down, if not it was already melted completely.
Donghyuck didn't know either why he wanted to mess up with you that bad, it was like his gut feeling told him to do so in the exact moment he saw you roaming with that cute frown on your delicate face around your store, so he went for it. In simple terms, that philosophy was his ride or die, he just did not expect you to act in the same way as him. The way you fought back that day made a strike in his mind, and jokes on you if you thought that Donghyuck would have let you go.
After he bought you the first coffee that day, he kept doing this everyday, and he made sure to buy a coffee for himself so he could drink it next to you in your store, and if it wasn't the coffee in the morning, it was a packed lunch in his break from work. The boy always asked you how was going your day and if you needed anything.
Eventually you ended up opening a little and telling him more about yourself, like how you as the owner of your store was the result of your passion for photography, except you couldn't use a camera, and he genuinely laughed at that revelation, finding you adorable and telling you in exchange how he made photography one of his hobby and sometime, his job too.
It went like this, it was as if you two had made a pact: you told him a fact about yourself, and he in return told you something of himself. His persistence was what you got convinced that giving in wouldn't hurt no one, and also 'cause his presence started not to be so bad as in the beginning.
Fucking Renjun.
And this is exactly how you got at the event that day. In the long run everything was ready for the occasion, so the day the show would go on the air had arrived, and you were close to being ready to go.
Yeri and Ningning came to your house early that afternoon, they said they would get ready with you, so there you were, sitting on the floor of your room while putting some make up on, mascara and lip tint were generally your pieces de resistance, so you opted for them for the night not wanting to exaggerate.
Ningning was roaming enthusiastically in your closet 'cause based on what she said your outfit should have made an impression on everyone, to whom you raised a brow.
"I'm definitely not wearing that." This time both of your brows was raised to the roof, scowling at her for good measure.
"'Ning it's a music show, not a pool party, that skimpy dress looks like a fucking bikini." Yeri deadpanned frowning and you almost launched at her and kissed her on her pretty full lips. Maybe you should've done it.
"Can we make out?" Your eyes were glowing like a light stick while looking at her, but soon your vision went black.
Was that a pillow? Your pillow bed?!
"No."
What was the meaning of your life if you couldn't even kiss your best friends? That was the most atrocious thing in the whole world.
Sooner or later the three of you got dressed in time, settling on for just summer dresses 'cause you all realized it was still hot even though it was nighttime, and the lightweight fabric in contact with the evening breeze, was doing wonders on your skin while walking down the streets, slowly reaching the set up venue.
You all stopped at a stand, fortunately on your way, to get a drink and you didn't know why, but you were in the mood for a piña colada, so you settle on it for the night. Yeri, Ningning and you, once arrived, perfectly found a spot where you would've had a good view of the stage but at the same time not being in the middle of the crowd, y'all didn't want to sweat.
There was a good atmosphere, for someone who had only seen the preview, there was to say that everybody had done a good job with the location, and as a matter of fact, a few photographers were around you to capture the foremost moments.
Hoping to go unnoticed by your two friends, you searched for Donghyuck knowing that he was there to work, and even just seeing him for an instant would have been enough for the rest of the festival.
Little did you know.
After a while you indeed spotted him, you supposed he was taking a rest in the staff's section and he too was sipping on his drink while chatting with his colleagues; as might as expected the piña colada didn't affected you that much, your blood alcohol level was nonexistent, but you still felt the sudden desire to go and greet him and let him know that you were there too.
"Girls, I'm just gonna say 'hi' to Donghyuck," you shouted over the music and the crowd loud noise, pointing a finger behind you in Donghyuck's direction, "I'll be back soon!"
They gave you a thumbs up and vanished in turn into the throng, leading to who knows where. You eventually updated the girls on your start of friendship with him, and they were strangely happy about that, Renjun and Chenle instead, limited themselves to wink and smirk at you, patting your shoulder in the end.
You reached the brunette guy over where he was standing with a cup of alcohol in his hand, and poked his left side with your index, definitely surprising him. Donghyuck always thought you were actually an introvert and didn't like these kind of places, but seeing you there with a drink in your hand and a silly smile on your face, took him off guard, but he greeted you back and returned your smile, kissing the back of your free hand too.
What a gentleman.
"How's going your night, Hyuck?" You grinned as you took a sip of your drink while looking at him up and down, he looked good that night, even with a slight layer of sweat on his forehead. You caught sight of the dampness also on his neck and on the portion of his tonic chest left uncovered by the unbuttoned shirt, but afraid that he could've realize what you were doing, you quickly looked away, and 'cause you did not want that view to distract you again too.
"Actually, I think it's going much better now, you know?" Donghyuck found endearing your grin and he smirked at you sizing you up, finding you extremely cute for his own sake. "Who are you trying to impress? Me, perhaps? 'Cause it's working, doll." He took advantage of the loud music to get close and hear you better, so close that he could count your upper and bottom lashes, and you could see his dark irises being illuminated by the spotlights, and able to feel his sweet breath gently hitting the lower part of your face. Your body tingled at the sensation, but suffice it to say, you didn't mind at all.
"I thought you got tired of flirting for nothing? Be easy on yourself, Hyuck." You scoffed and purposefully rolled your eyes at him, trying to hide the amused smile by taking a second sip of your piña colada.
You guessed you were starting to get again under his skin with your bitter remarks, but honestly? It was too fun. Plus, he didn't give weight to it 'cause in those three weeks he pretty much figured out that your character were calling for someone who would match it, someone with the same fiery energy, and he knew that people who didn't respond cheekily to a person like you, could be a big turn off. You were just like him. That's why he always had a ready answer for you. He wanted to let you know that he could be a good candidate for you, but you were- oh so hard to read.
He wouldn't give up on you though, if he was knew for something, apart from being the epitome of ENTP, it was surely for his determination.
You'd be his at the end of this circus.
"I may go easy on myself, but I for sure won't go easy on you, baby girl." He winked while pointing at you.
Was he recreating Rihanna's meme?
"Donghyuck." Your voice was stern while you were trying so bad to keep a straight face.
"Too cheesy and cringe?" He asked flatly, and you simply nodded.
"Noted." And he clicked his tongue.
When all was said and done, he searched for a couple of chairs for you and him; it was an event were the public could watch standing, so there weren't many chairs out there, but luckily he managed to find one there in the staff's wing and he offered it to you.
"You're working Hyuck, you're definitely more tired than me." Shaking your head you declined his offer, gesturing him towards the said chair, but he instead poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue closing his eyes for a brief moment and opening them again to look at you poker-faced.
If you didn't know any better, you were actually this close to suck him fucking dry, you cleared your throat to distract yourself, in panic you tried to compromise, "Okay! Okay what if- what if you sit, and I sit on your lap?" You looked at him tentatively, and he simply snickered, sitting down on the chair and manspreading.
Juicy thighs on full display.
Someone up there must have hated you to her content. At that sight, you started praying in every language you knew.
"C'mere, my sweetheart, I don't bite. Or I do bite, if you prefer." He patted his covered thighs with his slender hands waiting for you to sit on him, and gaining a little more of boldness, you confidently sat sideways on his lap. You grimaced snorting loudly at his comment, taking another sip of your piña colada, realizing you almost drank it all.
"Will you ever actually stop?" You weren't annoyed by his words, actually his way of sweet-talking to you was what you got all wound up.
You realized that the night was taking a turn from the moment he placed his free hand on the small of your back. You quivered under his dark gaze feeling even smaller than you already were near him, while goosebumps were starting to be visible on your arms caused by his slight touch.
Nonetheless, you were capable of feeling his warmth through the fabric of the dress. He placed his camera on a tiny counter for the occasion near him, where lenses cameras and lights were scattered around, and before he could do anything you heard him whispering seriously this time:
"Your own eyes are betraying you, Y/n. Stop making a fight, your talk is cheap." Thank god you were sitting on him, otherwise you wouldn't have heard his deep voice. He simply responded flatly before he could set one hand on your jaw, lightly squeezing your cheeks together so to make your lips pout, your heart and stomach dropped, making you breath heavily, not to mention the literal feeling of your face growing red at such a simple touch and a few words certainly said with no care.
How embarrassing of you.
And things got worse when you felt him leaning in, capturing your lips with his.
You physically felt your breath get stuck in your throat, fingers fidgeting not knowing where to put the hand without the drink in, deciding to just put it on the base of his neck, intertwining your fingers with his short but still long enough hair on his nape.
He deepened the kiss by angling his head to the side, brushing your bottom lip with his tongue only for him to part your mouth with the latter and settle within your soft lips, tasting in the meantime the flavor of each other's drink you were previously drinking. You pulled away reluctantly, you feared that kiss took you to the moon in the true sense of the word 'cause your lungs were begging for a breath of air, but you knew it was an exaggeration and it was your mind's fault for your body to react like that to him.
And did he say your name or was your brain tipping over the edge?
"How did you know-" You said out of breath biting your bottom lip, in hope to taste him again.
"Your best boy friends can't keep their mouths shut. Blame them, pretty." He said in amusement. One of his hand was now caressing your bare thigh, where the edge of the dress did not reach, as if you didn't have enough chills along your spine.
You promised yourself to have a tiny little talk with both of them later.
Now you were just pondering whether or not to kiss him taking the initiative, but before you could answer you found that your lips were on his again, kissing him fervently, with your other hand clutching his shirt, to get even closer to him than before.
You started to feel heady again and the sudden awareness of the ache between your legs started to kick in. The only way to find relief in that moment was to clench your thighs together, hoping to go unnoticed, but that idea went out of the imaginary window in your head as you felt him nudging at the back of your right thigh.
The hand previously on your skin, went up on your ass, kneading it shamelessly for everyone to see, and you almost leaked through your panties at the mere thought of doing the deed in public, but the need to have him laying under you on your comfy mattress got the best of you.
"Hyuck-" you breathed out on his lips, parting slightly from him, watching him with your pleading eyes, silently saying to do something.
"I know baby, I know. Show me the way." Hearing your breathy and delicate voice saying his name like that got him weak in the knees. He didn't think twice before caving in, so he literally followed you like a lost puppy while you were dragging him down the road to your house, trying to be as discreet as possible.
Technically, he was still on his working hours, but practically he didn't give a damn.
You let him in, and without any hesitation and zero effort you were pressed against your door with your legs wrapped around his waist.
What did he need that small waist for? For another people to grab it? Whore.
Well, in that case you were circling it with your legs, but you certainly wouldn't have wasted the opportunity to grab it with your hands thereafter.
You apparently weren't the only thing pressed, 'cause you felt him again against your core this time, and the pressure just felt amazing, but it wasn't enough.
You parted from his swollen-kissed lips to say that your bedroom was down the hallway to your left, he nodded in response and began to make his way through your house with you still anchored in his arms.
You didn't waste your time, and in a matter of fact your plump lips were leaving lazy kisses along the line of his sharp jaw, leading to his soft spot under his right ear, and ending your journey on his collarbones, gently biting his sun kissed skin every now and then, feeling his breath cut off in his throat and gasping under his nonexistent breath when your teeth were sinking into his flash, making you grinning devilishly. Pointless to say you were determined to hear more sound like those coming from him.
He kicked open your room's door with one of his foot, not caring to close it shut 'cause he looked like he understood you lived alone, and no one could have unintentionally disturbed or interrupted you.
Surely a gift sent from god herself.
Donghyuck threw you without grace on your bed, making himself at home between your now parted legs, the consequence of being sprawled on your sheets was that your summer dress collected around the curves of your hips and the straps of your dress were no longer on your shoulders, but hanged loosely on your arms, leaving you in a vulnerable state right in front of his eyes, not being totally covered. It wasn't uncomfortable though, to tell the truth you even spread more your legs wanting him to be comfortable, wanting his eyes fixated on you, and it was not long in coming.
He felt his cock being restricted in his jeans, and by that you were able to see its outline and you could witness it was massive, to say the least. You gulped down the saliva that had formed on the back of your throat, asking yourself if it was even going to fit, deciding that the pain would have been worth it.
You curled your index in his pearl necklace bringing him down with you so you could reconnect both of your lips and make your tongues dance together, all while his hands were working frenetically trying to take your dress off.
He completed his quest the moment the latter went over your head, tossing it somewhere on the ground, making him stop above you and looking down at you with stars in his eyes, as if he had never seen anything more beautiful than you under him. 'Cause yes, he did think multiple times about how you could have looked without your clothes, he couldn't lie, but he would never have imagined such a view.
"Good fucking lord, you're so beautiful even like this." He stayed still staring at you for a little more, just to take in your appearance and memorize you in his mind, he then descended on you so he could have kissed languidly your neck and alternately leaving little hickeys behind his wet trail until he reached the valley of your breast, blueish and reddish spots rose on your skin making a little work of art to only you and the man all over you to see.
"I bet you'll be even prettier with my head between your legs and your pussy stuffed with my fingers." And the fact that you weren't wearing a bra? Fucking out of your mind, 'cause that sent Donghyuck head over heels for you. You were so wild, just like him.
And his cock were throbbing in his now tight jeans, but we don't talk about it now, he was already in pain enough. You squeaked at his implication, your body already trembling in anticipation. Still too intoxicated with only his close presence you didn't know if you were sober enough to receive more, but whether you were ready or not that was your fate for the night.
Not that you complained.
He kept faith to his words and before you could register what he said in your mind, his face were at the same level as your pelvis. The tip of his nose traced the edge of your panties, going painfully slow down to your slit, pressing for a moment his button nose on your clit under the light fabric, making you stutter his name under your breath.
You felt him grinning against the most sensitive part of your body, and not a second later he flattened his tongue on your lower lips, going slowly down towards your covered entrance, dipping in slightly for him to feel your arousal leaking through your panties. You were heavily breathing at that point, waiting anxiously for his next move, which immediately arrived.
Donghyuck wasn't exactly a patient person, so the said next move was him removing your panties with his teeth, slowly dragging them all down your legs and throwing them away on the floor to keep company to your dress that were laying there. His large hands found their place on your parted thighs now with your centre exposed, and he fucking whined at the sight of your glistening folds.
"Do something, Hyuck, please." You tried to wiggle under his firm touch, but he squeezed the flash of your thighs, making you whimpering loudly. His lips formed an 'O' when he caught your hole clenching around nothing while you whined.
"So, here I have a fucking greedy pain slut." He mumbled, and with that he dipped his head between your shaking legs. "Dear lord, you're so pretty even down here, how's that possible." You know he was talking to himself, but you couldn't stop the heat rising up to your face, and just wailed out lowly, throwing your head back on your pillows. You didn't complain, you were eager to feel him on you, and when he actually attached his lips to your core, you completely lost your mind. He trailed roughly in the middle of your puffy lips with his wet muscle, going forth to the entrance and back to your neglected clit, sucking firstly and hard on the little ball of nerves, and then on both of your lips.
"You taste so sweet, so, so sweet." At that your hands flew to his hair, gripping onto them for dear life while your moans reverberated off the walls, you heard him whimpering again, the vibrations clashing against your centre made you gasp and brought him even closer while your thighs clamped around his head, putting him in a headlock position. You'd swear you even saw him fucking grinding on the covered mattress at your action.
He was eating your pussy like a starved man.
"It seems that-" a gasp escaped you, making you arching your back off the bed, interrupting your speech, "I'm not the only pain slut here-" your mouth fell agape feeling Donghyuck easing his tongue past your entrance. You were starting to get addicted to his mouth, at that point. He stopped at your sensitive bud, lapping at it and sucking it in his mouth, in a repeated move, putting in the middle languid kisses that went straight to your core, and as if it weren't enough he pushed two of his fingers into your drenched pussy, his knuckles almost disappeared when he went all the way up to your g-spot.
Always straight to the point.
"You saw nothing, just concentrate on my mouth and my fingers, babe." You thanked god you didn't have roommates, 'cause his name moaned, whimpered, and whined, was the only thing you could hear all over your house.
The tension in your stomach started to build nearly immediately, as you were writhing under him, he was just good at that shit and you guys were only at the beginning of the foreplay.
"Haechan-" just slipped out of your mouth, and a harsh slap came in contact with your bare ass, leaving the red and the 3D print of his hand on it.
"Call me like that again, and I'll stop." And fuck, you did not want that to happen at all, damn you were already thinking about the second round-
"Shit- no, I swear I'm sorry, you feel too good, so good- Please Hyuck, I'm sorry just don't stop-" you were embarrassingly babbling, on the verge of literally sobbing because of the near first exploding climax of the night. You knew he was showing you pity as he returned to his actions, not before giving you a warning look, and you bit your lip while looking at him with your already fucked out gaze, hands still gripping hard his hair.
Independent woman my ass.
"Cmon Y/n, don't run from me, I can feel you squeezing my fingers, I know you wanna cum," He kept pushing in and out his slender fingers at a quick peace, making you gasping shakily whenever he curled his fingers upwards your spongy walls. "You can do it pretty girl. Go ahead, make a mess on my fingers." That was your last straw.
You cried out while squirming and twisting when the knot in your stomach snapped. And as you were calming down it felt like you were combusting on your spot, laying lifeless on your sheets trying to give your lungs the oxygen they lost along the way. If he gave you this mind blowing orgasm as your first, you didn't want to imagine how the upcoming ones would be. You were thrilled.
Donghyuck's next target was clearly your cleavage, he didn't say it out loud, but his eyes spoke for him, you could see the eagerness they were holding by simply looking at your chest covered by goosebumps while you were still breathing deeply through your nostrils. In his eyes you were mouth-watering just lying on your blankets in that already fucked out state.
But he had to wait because much to his surprise you were pretty fast at recovering from foreplay, and in just a couple of minutes you were face-to-face to him, in the same position as him on your knees, now wanting to have your fun with him. After all, he as well, deserved his part.
"I think we're playing an unfair game here, don't you think, Hyuck?" Dismissively you pointed the nail of your index finger on his chest, letting it slide down his torso, pressing gently against his shirt.
"What do you mean by 'unfair'?" Voice slightly strained as he was busy following your lips with his gaze.
"I mean that your clothes are still on, but mines are on the ground, don't you find it unequal?" You pouted while looking at him with your doe eyes, trying to be as persuasive as possible.
"Yes, I think you're more than right, actually." His words couldn't come out of his mouth faster than that, and you snickered in amusement at him. He were already so vulnerable, for fuck's sake.
"So, if I do this," you proceeded to unbutton the rest of his shirt, sliding it down past his shoulders and his wrists, "you don't mind, mh?" Your voice was sugary.
"Do as you please, I'm down with everything," he whispered on your mouth while you still were at his height on the bed, "just, don't tease."
You chuckled at him while you hooped a finger into his waistband bringing him closer, clashing your noses, "You better stick to your words. If you're fine with whatever, just sit back and enjoy your time."
What were you, the voice ad who tells you to enjoy your time watching the movie at the cinema? What the fuck Y/n.
You shrugged off your own ridiculous thoughts, and done that, you placed both of your hands on his firm pecs, not too muscular, not too scrawny, just to die for. Of course, for your standards. Hands started to drop down his torso, brushing and flicking on his nipples in the way, making him hiss, and he even tried to capture your wrists in his hands to stop you, but you gave him in return a dour look, so he stopped mid-air quickly mumbling an 'I'm sorry', and you pecked his lips as a reward.
You kept on pecking him, but each time you changed directions of your lips, moving slowly to the corner of his mouth, to his jaw, along the side of his neck, to his bony collarbones, and then down his abs, peppering his soft flesh with small kisses, and with kitten-licks in between. This, while your hands were still caressing him, coming down with you as you moved.
You eventually and finally reached his pants, not halting your movements and simply taking off his belt, absentmindedly placing it there on the bed, while his pants were quick to reach the pile of your clothes on the floor. You set down on your elbows, now facing his cock still restrained, and that's where you heard Donghyuck's breath getting heavy, but you plainly smirked up at him aware of your next moves.
You actually didn't waste your time and pulled down his boxers in one move, which took him off guard, making you chuckling. His member slapped proudly against his lower stomach, it reached his navel and you almost salivated at the only sight.
"Oh god, Hyuck you're so big-" you muttered under your breath and with that you simply wrapped your hands at its base, wanting first to slowly stroke him, tasting the waters. "I'm gonna deep-throat you-" you said without even thinking about the fact that he was literally so big that he would have split your throat in a half, probably because, in fact, you didn't care at all about that particular.
He choked on his saliva, placing one hand in your hair trying, but not trying at the same time, to stop you, "What- wait, I mean yes- oh my god, just-"
You shushed him by licking his leaking tip, going down the length of his shaft and reaching his balls, then you went back at the tip, and wrapping your lips around it your head started to bob up and down with a slow steady rhythm.
You heard him cursing in a soft tone, while his grip on your hair thighed, and you hummed contentedly at the slight pain on your scalp. At your hum you felt him twitching in your mouth, so you hollowed your cheeks around him and went all the way down his length, feeling him in the very back of your throat. Your gag reflexes were irritating you, but you fought them back and as a result tears started to form in your waterlines, feeling them at the corner of your eyes and down your cheeks afterwards.
He cooed at you, snickering proudly while your hands were squeezing his thighs for support, "Am I, perhaps, too big for my baby? Should I pull out?" You shook fast your head in a 'no' motion, looking up at him with your wet eyes, wanting to demonstrate to him that you could do it, that you wanted to do it at every cost.
And so he brought you closer with his hands on the back of your head, your nose was now touching his happy trail, and with his massive cock now buried in your throat, even if you were trying so hard to breath through your nose, you were never been happier than that.
"Fuck- you're so warm, stay still for a moment." he grunted while exposing his veiny neck, you started to feel like you were about to faint due to lack of air, but nonetheless, you felt again the stickiness between your legs.
He eventually released you, and you were able to breathe again, briefly gasping for oxygen waiting for your lungs to be full again, and as a matter of fact you were back to sucking him dry.
You hollowed again your cheeks around his shaft while your tongue were flat on the underside of his length, this time stopping bobbing your head where you were the most comfortable, repeating your motions until you saw his stomach contracting and him almost curling on you, while gasping for air, and you understood he was close to his climax. So you brought your hand to his balls, massaging firstly them together and then separately, and apparently that was his last straw, 'cause before he could warn you he was already releasing himself down your throat.
You peered at him through your wet lashes and noted he had his eyes screwed shut and his mouth wide opened, his cock still throbbing in your mouth, so you waited for him to come down on heart before you could pull off of him with a loud and wet pop, swallowing everything he gave you.
"I actually hate you." He said still breathing heavily, fixing you hair in the meantime.
"No, you actually don't." You grinned ear to ear and went up at his height again, throwing your arms around his neck while licking your lips, tasting again his release.
"How was it?" He asked you smugly.
"How was it what-"
"My cum."
"Donghyuck!" You yelled exasperate, putting your face in the crook of his neck.
"I'm kidding!" He kissed tenderly your exposed temple.
Your cheeks were burning at his action, but you were quick to change your positions so he couldn't see that. You pushed at his shoulders, making him to fall back on your blankets, head on your pillows, and bed eyes looking up at you, watching you attentively.
"I know you're not, you horny fucker." You straddled his lap, hands on his lower abs, and now with both of your legs on both of his sides, you just sat back, feeling his cock under the curve of your ass. And that made you smirk devilishly, 'cause it made you realize you were right on top of him, "Screw that, I'm the fucker apparently."
He raised an eyebrow at you, "Idea is not acceptable."
You raised back an eyebrow at him, "Idea is very acceptable," you wiggled your ass on his already growing erection, "Go tell your dick."
Grinding his teeth in annoyance he felt indeed his cock twitching under you, "You're being incorrect, princess and the pea."
You rolled your eyes at him, "You could have stopped at the 'princess', thank you very much."
"Stop being a brat and fuck me, you need an invite or?" He crossed his arms behind his head watching you with a defiant smile.
"How the tables have turned." You scowled at him, your hand reached down in between your bodies lifting yours up, to place the said hand on the base of his length, lining the tip at your entrance.
"Yeah, and I'll turn 'em again later."
You ignored his snark remark, even though his words were echoing in your brain like a nursery rhyme, and you just eased down onto him, letting him fill you up to the brim. You winced at the stretch, both his length and girth were ripping you apart, but you didn't complain at all.
"Fucking hell. I can fucking feel you in my stomach." You said with a faint voice, proceeding to moan rolling your head back, staying still for a moment, adjusting to his size.
You slightly lifted your ass up, leaving only the tip inside, still feeling full, just to smack it loudly against his tonic thighs trying to remain as quiet as you could 'cause you wanted to hear him, even if you wanted to scream out loud thanks to him who was reaching places you didn't know existed, causing you to violently clench around him and repeat your moves.
"Shit- Y/n you're so greedy and for what," as if he didn't know. He grunted, gripping your hips so forcefully you feared he would find the pieces of your flesh in his hands, but that pain only wounded you up even more, in fact, you felt yourself dripping into his shaft, the wetness helping your movements to get more smooth, and that made him hiss through his teeth, closing shut his eyes while whimpering.
Greedy for you, dickhead. You truly wanted to reply, "Your brobdingnagian dick makes me greedy, Hyuck." You opted instead, moaning shakily when he accidentally met up with your hips while you were going down.
"Never say that again." He tried to keep a straight face, but he soon realized that it was like boiling the ocean. Impossible.
After he closed his mouth, well, opened his mouth, to stop talking and letting out his moans mixed with his whimpers, you started to move off of him and on again, this time faster, making your boobs bounce up and down in a rapid motion. He was salivating at the view, and his hands were quick to make it to them, holding onto them for dear life, kneading like they were pizza dough, registering in his head that they even fitted perfectly in his hands.
He was waiting for this, to make you his, since the first time he saw you.
He was looking, trying at least, at you with so many emotions and feelings in his eyes that he couldn't even comprehend what they were exactly. Could you be more perfect than that?
Well, he figured it out that yes, you could be more perfect than that, in the exact moment you stopped bouncing on him, and started to fucking grind on him. Moans and curses words were spilling out of your mouths almost at the same time, both of you started to get louder. You felt him twitching more repeatedly than before, signaling you that he was reaching again his climax, and you were on the same wavelength if it weren't for the fact that you were restraining yourself from being only one step closer to that.
"I'm close- I'm fucking close Y/n, slow the fuck down-" A white ring of your slick around the base of his cock, now sliding down his balls and onto the mattress. He babbled out of his breath, not noticing that he was pinching your nipples between his fingers while he was holding your mounds, making your core tighten around his erection.
"And why would I do that?" You whined while your nails were digging deeply in his chest, unhurriedly sliding down his stomach and pelvis, leaving vivid red marks behind. If you were to be marked, he had to be too.
"'Cause I want- fuck- I want you to- cum first." You literally felt him trembling under you, and you tsked at him, how could he say such a thing if he was literally on his last legs? That's what he made you obsessed with him when you guys first met.
"Lightning never strikes twice," you clenched around him again, "this time, you cum first, pretty boy." and apparently it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
His legs folded under you making them crash into your back, while he was messily thrusting up into you to catch his own release. You physically felt him shooting his cum into you, filling you up as you never were in your whole life. Now it was his turn to lay lifeless under you, taking in deep breaths.
But you didn't give him much time to recover, you were still trying to reach your climax, which it was closer than you thought.
You regained your movements, grinding on him with your clit now in contact whit his pelvis, but it wasn't enough, so you brought your hand on it, and began to stroking it with your middle and ring fingers, the movement made your head fall back, resting on the knees of the guy who were stuttering under you, gripping your thighs as his life depended on them while watching you touching and getting yourself off, using him. You just were so hot in his eyes.
"Y/n-, Y/n stop, I'm gonna- gonna come again if you don't stop like," he gulped down while he whined like a baby deprived of his pacifier, "right fucking now- oh my god I'm dying, I'm dying, I'm dying-" he kept blabbering and stuttering, at that point you couldn't even understand the fuck he was saying, but you swear you saw tears at the corner of his eyes, and evidently, that was it for the both of you, 'cause he filled you up again with his load in no time while you were crying in your turn on top of him, this orgasm hitting you harder than the first one that had you almost sobbing.
You clashed down on him, with your damped skins in contact, and usually it would disgust you, but this time you noticed it actually didn't bother you at all while Donghyuck was caressing your back. You stayed cuddled like that for a while, just the right amount of time to regain control of your lungs.
"Well, that was a long ass ride." You chuckled breathlessly, playing with his necklace.
"You fucking overstimulated me." He pinched your side, making you yelp and you tried to run from his fingers, but to no avails, 'cause he was caging you with his legs so much stronger than yours.
"What can I say, it's hazards of the job." You said nonchalantly while looking up at him with a smirk on your face. He was glowing, and he was so pretty, dear lord.
"I'm gonna stifle you."
"Is it a threat or a promise?"
"Actually," he began calmly, connecting your mouths on a slow kiss, savoring the saltiness of your tears on both of your lips, licking your bottom one, dancing briefly with your tongue afterwards, and in the meantime both of his hands went down on your ass, kneading and taking his own time with it. He must have really liked it, and you smiled in your shared kiss. "It was a fucking promise." You forgot he had to continue his sentence, and with his radical change in his voice, everything surprised you, 'cause you really thought you were done for the night. But again, you were oh so wrong.
He suddenly flipped you on your stomach, making you land on your knees and elbows on the blankets. But he wasn't happy about it, he pushed your blades down so your chest would be pressed against the mattress, with your ass up. Again, he wasn't content and pushed down on your lumbar spine, making you arch your back and stick out your ass even more. That satisfied him.
Thank god you were an ex artistic gymnast.
"Hyuck wait- I can't do it anymore-" you gasped in fear. He was actually unpredictable, and that was one of the many proofs.
He prodded the thick head of his cock at your entrance, sliding it into you by one or two inches while chuckling fiendishly, "You can, and you will. You will be nothing but my personal cumdump, yeah?"
He shoved his length in you so hard that you jolted forwards, a hiccup already leaving your mouth, feeling stuffed like a thanksgiving turkey. He threw back his head grunting like a wild animal at the feeling of your warm and still wet, from all of his cum, walls around his dick, "I'm gonna fuck you that brattiness off of your pretty face, doll."
Breathing through his teeth he started to build up his own pace, making you jolting forwards with each of his deep thrusts. In that position you could feel him reaching your cervix, hitting your g-spot as he kept going past it every time, causing you to stutter his name numerous times as you felt again your tears rolling down your cheeks, they didn't stop like the first time, they kept flowing and your mascara was soon ruined, staining your skin under your eyes, on your cheeks, and even under your chin as they grouped together. You were a babbling mess under him while he started plunging into you at a inhuman rate, feeling weaker and more alive simultaneously at every bump of his hips against your ass.
"You- You fill me up- so well Hyuck-," your right cheek were pressed against your sheets, not even trying to look at him 'cause you had no strength, you were just mumbling nonsense every now and then, "you're so good for me." Your intent was to say that he was good to you in that moment, not that he was the person good for you in general, but you guessed your mind disagreed, 'cause you didn't even corrected yourself, not wanting to in the slightest.
He landed forcefully a palm on your asscheek, leaving again another print on it, and he kept going like this: a slap that sent you into the next century on each asscheek until you were, in the true sense of the word, sobbing like a newborn, staining your blankets under you with your tears and saliva.
He was chasing his own release at this point, again, and that sent you a shiver along your spine at the anticipation, 'cause that meant he was about to be overstimulated once more, given the fact that you were yes on the verge of literally squirting on him, but it wasn't still your time, and that made you grin like crazy.
Donghyuck noticed you smiling to yourself hoping to go unnoticed, but you failed, and that rose curiosity in him, he didn't pry, but that made him place his left hand around your throat, bringing you up towards his sweaty chest. He was putting pressure on both of the sides of it, cutting off the blood pressure and giving you the feeling of pain and pleasure caused by the dizziness in your head.
"Told you it was a promise, slut, didn't I?" He whispered to your ear, brushing it softly with his plump lips, making your nipples stiffening in pleasure. You tried to nod at his words, wanting to give him an answer, but he fucking laughed at you, nibbling at your lobe while his other hand outstretched to your neglected nip, rolling and flicking it between his thumb and index finger.
Next time he would suck on them like they were his favorite lollipops.
"Answer me properly, doll." His deep voice went straight to your core.
"Y-yes, Hyuck-" you tried to say, gasping next for a little more of air, "you- you told me."
"You're such a good girl." The pet name made you squirm in his arms, your walls clenching around him multiple times as you whined out a plea. You were right there, but he beat you to it.
"Oh fuck- I'm coming-" his pace slightly stuttered "I'm gonna fuck you full of my cum again-" and with that, he emptied himself into you, filling you up deliciously in that position. You almost felt his cock in your throat again while he was still throbbing inside you.
You wouldn't be surprised if you could see his bulge through your stomach.
"You didn't come." He stated while looking at you sternly, "but that's not a problem. Whores like you get rewarded if they behave."
You mewled at his degradation, tightening once again your pussy around his cock, making him hiss and curl up towards you, but that didn't stop him. He kept fucking you setting aside the pain mixed with pleasure he was feeling, whimpering praises and degradations in your ear. You didn't know what to do anymore, your mind was in a hazy state and he hitting your spongy spot didn't help either.
Sniffles and moans were leaving your lips again, "Hyuck- I'm-" you tried to warn him, but the knot in your belly broke again and abruptly, not giving you time to realize it was really squirt, how you supposed earlier, that came out of your body.
That, was a result of how badly he could mess up with your body and mind. And you liked that.
Your incredibly amount of slickness drenched everything around you, including you and a content him. And with that he came again, too overstimulated for his own likes, but he wouldn't have complained if he had the chance to witness that afresh.
"Do that again but on my face please."
"Next thing I'll do is kicking you in your ribs."
He mocked you high-pitching his voice, but he proceeded to pull out of you with his finally softening member, and he dragged you down so you could lay your head on your pillow right in front of him, face-to-face still soaking all wet and breathless, your bodies screaming at you for a shower and a couple of glasses of water.
He plonked his free arms around your torso, bringing you closer to him, your chests and noses now touching softly, you giggled while looking in his eye, finding him already looking at yours with a silly expression on his face, was all that sex enough to make him a different person or what, he was literally calling you a slut seconds earlier. You shook your head, still smiling like a fool, and you pecked at his lips, lingering for a little longer on his lips you were starting to love excessively.
He pecked at your lip this time, biting softly your bottom one before he pulled apart, "Cat got your tongue?" An eyebrow raised at you.
"Shut up before I pee on you." In amusement you rolled your eyes at him, while standing up, heading trembling to your bathroom.
"Actually, you already did tha-"
"Lee Donghyuck!" You screamed from outside your door with your hands in your hair, stressed (not really) again by his antics.
He made a little run to catch up with you, swiftly picking you up much to your surprise, carrying you bridal style.
"Let's take the aftercare in the shower, my love." He grinned down at you while you steadily held onto him.
Your eyes went out of your sockets, making you choke on your own saliva, "your what?!"
"Nothing!"
And your hand tugged on his hair, making him yelp out of pain.
The next morning the ringing of a phone, echoed between the walls of your room.
You were a light sleeper, that was why you heard the phone firstly, but you noticed it wasn't your ringtone, so you quickly kicked in the shin the man that was sleeping next to you in your bed.
You thanked god again, 'cause you remembered to turn the AC on before you and Donghyuck could fall asleep as soon as you came back from the shower last night. And yes, that implied that the guy was sleeping soundly anchored to you, and without the AC on, you surely would have gone to sleep in your backyard.
"Donghyuck." You grunted in a hoarse voice.
No response.
You shoved him with your leg out of your bed, letting him hitting the floor, and he cried out in pain, again.
"Your phone." You simply said to him, and with that you saw him sprinting towards his jeans lying on the floor in front of him, searching frantically for the device in his pockets with his messy hair in all the directions, making you almost laugh at him.
"Hello?" His voice was hoarse too, so he cleared his throat while rubbing his eyes to wake up at least a little bit.
"No, I- Johnny I can explain-" he said hurriedly, "actually, I can explain to you, but don't tell Kun-" it was funny watching him walking around your room in panic, trying to save his own ass with his friends, with his hirers.
"What do you mean he wants to fire me?!" He squealed with his free hand in his hair.
His dick was dangling with each of his movements, making you try to suppress your laugh in your pillow.
"But- he can't! Well no, yes- I know he can-" he wails walking in circle, "but I'm the best among all other employees even if I disappeared from work last night-" he tried to sugarcoat his friend, but it was ineffectual. The call ended, and a cute pout appeared on his face. You sweared you could've kissed it off of him under different circumstances.
"Now I am jobless." He said puffing his cheeks, throwing himself on the bed, precisely on you.
You dramatically gasped for air while patting his head, which it was on your chest, and he was looking up at you, still with that pout on his lips.
"Now all I have left is my girlfriend." Now, you were gasping for air for real, 'cause that took you off guard, but not in a negative way. You actually took a moment to think about the man on top of you: aside from the first meeting went all the way down, you indeed realized that he was the only one, not counting your best friends, that were able to take your bull by the horns. He always had something up his sleeve to make you laugh and flatter at the same time. The way he took care of you, even with small gestures, made you fall for him quickly, plus his fun and witty ass was a relief for your monotonous course of life, so maybe he would put a twist to it.
"Ask me properly Lee Donghyuck." You feigned annoyance at him, when instead, you were more than on a cloud-nine.
"Y/n," he took a moment to elaborate his thoughts, he already screwed up his job, he didn't want to screw up with you too. "Could you give me the honor of calling you my girlfriend?" With his eyes full of hope he kept staring at you, with his heart pounding in his ears. He was about to faint from the anxiety, he could feel it.
"Of course I'll be your girlfriend, you silly dumbass." You never smiled so widely in your whole life, and placing both of your palms on his cheeks, you kissed him like time didn't existed, making his ear flush both for your final response and the breathtaking kiss.
Needless to say that you guys stayed a little longer on your bed, kissing like teenagers do in high school.
"Hey," he tried to say casually after sharing the last kiss.
"Oh no."
"I was thinking-"
"Oh no." You repeated dramatically, like something catastrophic was about to happen.
"Can you not?!"
"I'm sorry, it actually surprises me that you can think," you raised your shoulder, curling his already curly hair in your fingers.
"Now I think I'm just gonna go non-verbal on you."
"I was kidding baby, go ahead," your tone softened.
"Could you hire me, perhaps?" He said with a hopeful and devilish smirk.
Again, you took a moment to think about his offer, and you in fact needed one more hand at work, 'cause you were all alone in there, and sometimes you really wished you had an employee to help you out with the stocks in the back, o simply in the store sharing your tasks with one another. And having your boyfriend working and staying with you everyday? It was like a dream came true.
"Hell, no."
You just were as bad as him.

S1E5: y/n fell
WRITTEN PART -> (1.7k) -> no ss after text
THE TALK TO THE HAND CREW NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE HAPPENING. A live episode in semi-public? No, they've done that in the parking lot of the library. A fundraiser episode? Nope, they didn't even know money could be made from the podcast. A collab with a fraternity? Nooo, Liz and Gaeul are in a sorority.
The fact that Y/n is getting ready for an episode of the podcast is what's shocking the crew. Typically, in each episode, Y/n and San are talking about who dropped down and sobbed because of a failed situationship, so there's no reason to dress up.
So imagine the looks on Yeosang and Mingi's faces (who arrived first to the famous ATZ house) as both San and Y/n exited their car. San with his arms all out and Y/n with pretty pink glitter on her eyes.
“Both of you go home and change.” Mingi says while pointing off into the distance. Yeosang beside him takes a small second away from setting up the podcast's table to take a picture of the two. Is that glitter on your eyes, Y/n? I thought we all said no more glitter after that one incident”
“That was san who got the glitter in his eyes. Not me. And it looks nice, doesn't it??” she says with glee, but in response, all she gets is a pained smile from Yeosang and a big laugh from the man next to her. But when she turns to San to glare at him for laughing, the guy quickly turns and narrows his eyes on one of the many frat members nearby. “Woah, is that one of my gym bros?? I gotta go say hi”
“How is San not in a frat house?” Seonghwa says from the table that's set up near the podcast's area by the garage. “We're still recruiting for new members if he's interested.”
“During our first year, we interviewed a frat boy, and he told all the hazing stories. San's too scared to join one.”
“Our initiation is an IQ test.. We're not animals, or hoping any will join.”
Seonghwa and Y/n turn to the sudden loud noise as the two see San roaring while pretending to rip off his shirt in front of Jongho. “Yeah.. I feel like he'll fail that IQ test..”
With the late arrival of Liz and Gaeul, the first forty minutes of the episode went well. Well, for the content, at least, as San kept on being called by members of the frat to come and join the festivities. Making him actually rip his shirt on camera for “funzies” as he said.
And since there was occasionally an empty srat next to Y/n, the crew decided to fill the seat themselves, which is why Mingi is now telling the viewers about the frat house seen behind them.
“Im genuinely not lying to you, Y/n. During the party for the first week of school, three people in this house came up to me and asked me out.” Mingi says with the mic right up against his lips while the sunglasses on his head reflect the look of disbelief on Y/n's face.
“Sure..” She nods and smiles as the man in front of her continues to act cocky. “Was one of them your anonymous admirer or..?”
Mingi stumbles on his words while trying to also figure out what words to say as Gaeul starts to speak from behind the camera. “Battery's low, I have to stop the recording for a bit”
As she stops the camera, Y/n takes the time to look to her left, seeing what the co-host is doing after ditching her. “Look at this guy, our first charity episode, and he's not even helping.” She shakes her head at the view of a shirtless san being dragged over a car's windshield.
“Looks like he's helping the frat, see how many extra bills that car gave to the money guy.” Liz removes her focus from her laptop with the OBS system paused to see what Y/n's talking about.
Yeosang continues to fidget with his audio device before handing something to Gaeul and Y/n. “Your tiktok mics.” The two take the mini clip-on mics with a gasp. “I tested them last night, and the quality is alright, I guess..”
“Oh my god, Yeosang.. You didn't tell us you're in love with us what?? I thought you said no to them” Y/n says as she helps Gaeul clip on her mic. “As if, I only said no to testing them here. So I tested them myself, you're welcome-”
“Wait but what are they going to do with them on when we have perfectly fine mics right here??”
With a slight smirk on her face, Gaeul unlocks the camera from its tripod, battery now changed and points it torwards Y/n with a look. “Y/n's interview time!!!”
“Oh wait actually?— Hey listeners! Aren't you sick and tired of hearing Mingi go on and on?”
“Hey! Wha—”
“Well.. It's time we see what the viewers irl think about this little event!” Y/n makes a little gesture to the camera to follow her as she starts to look around the area.
“Oh wait, perfect, let's get an opinion from the vice-president of the frat himself. Mister Park Seonghwa, it's good to meet you.” She sticks out her hand for him to take as Gaeul says something, “Wait you two never met??”
“No. But we're mutuals on Instagram, and it's good to meet you too Y/n. I love what you've done with your eye makeup today, the glitter suits you.”
“Oh, stop it, you sweetheart. So, how are you feeling with the car wash today? Is it going as planned, or…?”
The male takes a moment to look at the surroundings, making Gaeul turn the canera to show the view of cars along the big driveway and even down the street.
He speaks into the small mic held by Y/n, “It's going as planned, but I just can't help but feel sad as it's me and Hongjoong's final one.”
The two girls gasp, “Oh noo, I forgot it's your final year, my tutor is leaving. Who will bring me and Liz snacks during our morning class now??”
“You're the vice-president of a frat, a sweetheart, and a tutor?!?” Y/n exclaims with an exaggerated gasp for the camera.
Seonghwa nods with a slight grin, “And, after I graduate, I plan to go back home and teach at the elementary school I went to.”
“Alright, we're leaving you Seonghwa.” Y/n jokingly waves bye to the man, “You already have half of the campus in love with you. Do you want the other half too??”
“Shhh, don't reveal my plan to thousands of viewers.” With a soft smile on his face, he raises his hands up as a playful surrender, “You two should go interview someone else.. I'm not the only person here”
“Do you think we should interview a car??”
Behind the camera, Gaeul's facial expression lights up, “Y/n. I know a car here, let's get her.” With the confused face of Y/n as a signal, Gaeul starts to run to a white colored Toyota Corolla in the line of cars.
Camera aimed towards the driver's window, Gaeul takes her free hand to slam on the glass, scaring the poor girl inside. Y/n mumbles a quick ‘goodbye’ to Seonghwa to rush over to where Gaeul is, as she's getting yelled at (softly) by her sorority sister..
“Oh hey Rei! I didn't know you're into these.. events..? Want to be interviewed by us?” At Y/n's words, the girl sends a quick glare to Gaeul before unlocking the car so they could get in.
“For the record, I'm not into the whole shirtless car wash thing.” Rei says as the two settle in the car, Y/n in the passenger seat and Gaeul in the back with the camera pointed at the two. “Sure..”
“No really, Y/n, these boys genuinely know how to clean. Like they get down to the details and I just need a cheap car wash that'll make my car nice and shiny.”
Gaeul leans over the center console of the car to point the camera towards the windshield as water from the house's hose starts to flow down the glass. “Mom this is actually the cleanest frat on campus. Tag along with us to their parties please, there'll be no more bathroom incidents.”
“What's with you guys and incidents?” Rei turns to face the camera as a few members of the frat (shirtless) start to wipe the car with bubbly suds of soap. “It's like every episode I watch you guys are mentioning at least one..”
“Too many things happen in our lives babe.” Gaeul answers instead of the interviewer as Y/n's eyes are currently locked on the figure none other than Jeong Yunho.
She snaps her fingers in front of Y/n's face to bring her out of her trance. Which fails the first few times until the three get startled by San's knocking on the windshield followed by a wave.
“Quick! Run him over!” Y/n says as she's forced to watch her best friend soak himself with a bucket of water before rinsing off the car, sending a wink to the camera. “Oh god.. Mingi is going to hate editing this.. if he actually does.”
As Rei and Gaeul head into their own conversation while the frat boys dry the car with rags and washcloths, Y/n tries her best to not look at the view of a shirtless Yunho right by the passenger door. Which fails as San opens both the passenger and back door for her and Gaeul. “Ladies- Did you enjoy the show?” San says grabbing ahold of the camera to film the girls.
“I want a refund San,” Y/n starts as she takes a foot out of the car, “You left me during the whole—” When she tries to stand straight out of the car and take one step forward, her shoe slips on the wet and soapy ground, causing her to fall slowly. She closes her eyes as she braces for the impact of the cold ground, but it never comes and as she opens her eyes she makes eye contact with the one and only Jeong Yunho holding her in his arms.
“Holy shit. Cut the cameras right now.”
synopsis = the ‘college experience’ for some it includes joining a frat/sorority or parties every night or drowning in the amount of school work. but for y/n it means making a podcast with her friends…

🌈 Rainbow: What is your favorite character dynamic to write? Give us an example from your WIP!
💧 Raindrop: Describe your antagonist/villain in 5 words.
P. S: Take all the time you want bud, I know the battery is currently low 🫂🫡
*chews lix* hi friend- (ask game)
thank you I'm doing my best to keep up with everything, also redirecting here @upsilambic because she asked for the same prompt
🌈 Rainbow: It's not a character dynamic per se I think, but I really like to tackle the tension between two characters that are obviously up against one another but can't openly fight it out/quarrel/express their disdain for one another. I guess you could call it forced collaboration?
Two scheming characters, each one with their own goals, who have to constantly outsmart and keep up with the other's moves. They KNOW the other one is out to get them but cannot ask for help or flee: they have to play the game or itìs their end.
Let's see if I can find something from the next chapters:
"For the past two months, Madam Nifate has instructed us to divide the sample pools into two subgroups. [...] The second group, on the other hand, is dedicated to collecting data on conscious subjects."
"Which we know to be very scarce compared to the resources we use to obtain them," he interrupted again, finally deigning her with his cold gaze, "How many subjects died this time?"
Anemone's heart was gripped by a mixture of shame and fear: it seemed that young Tristam had done his homework before that meeting. She guessed that, perhaps, he had planned to confront her about it personally, preparing to debate with the data held by Nifate. At least, she thought, a subtle difference between him and the Nera Signora was slowly becoming identifiable: he was much less patient than his mother.
"We... we lost two girls," she replied, struggling against the urge to clench her fists, "Thirteen and twenty-three years old. The other three subjects lost consciousness during the experimentation... and so managed to survive."
Tristam's reaction to that information was a silent raising of his eyebrows. "I understand. And why did it come to letting three subjects faint? Why didn't you proceed? Keeping them conscious by force shouldn’t be that hard."
Anemone's self-control failed: she bit her lower lip before answering with a trembling voice: "Signorino Tristam. Our approach as a research and development team prioritizes the safeguarding of our specimens when possible."
"Yes, mother mentioned things have been like this since you took command."
"And since then, branch productivity has increased by 30%. Collaboration with the study subjects allows them to re-present themselves as such multiple times. With all due respect, signorino... under these premises, it's not accurate to describe our work as 'lacking commitment', if that's what you're insinuating."
💧 Raindrop: oh god. who's KW's main villain? I feel like that's Tristam right now, at least.
Treacherous. Forlorn. Adored. Repaired. Vengeful.

*leave house to start jog*
*low battery on headphones*
*sigh*
At least it wasn't the super annoying one where it was beeping every 15 seconds. -- I've jogged around the park enough to recognise a number of the dogs there and there's one that is pretty shy/cautious and just. Pauses whenever a human goes by.
They came up and greeted me! 😭 -- 'Okay! I'm going to go do that low bouldering route today! I've watched videos, I feel I know more, I feel Prepared to even try yeeting/jumping up to grab the next hold up!'
*gets in and goes to the bouldering route*
*closed off for re-setting*
:(
So I tried a different higher route without much expectations.
I finished it?? Twice!!
I think I also did the second one a different way and I have no idea how, but I did it!!
Then tried the one next to it and okay, still a bit iffy with heights and my arms were a little tired, but I got about 4/5 there. :D
Walked around again and the low bouldering route was open again and the route still there. I was able to reach past the overhang and make it to the top there too, heck yeaaaahhh!
So I was like, 'I've been able to do the beginner level, lemme try the next level up!'
So I'm following the colour, trying to find where its starting point is.
Look up.
The starting point is above the doorway.
......
Okay, I'll go back to my absolutely beginner level for now, ahahah.
I still need to work on my fear levels and just getting the basics down anyway.
Tried a couple more routes. Jumped off from higher heights so I can teach brain I'm not going to flat out die if I do fall. Jumped from higher than I thought I was and landed heavier than expected but still didn't injure myself!
I tried doing the horizontal wall and. Still failed, ahaha. Some of those reaches are so far and more difficult than the vertical routes, pfft.
Overall, so happy with myself. :D

Immunity (Iwaizumi x sick!reader)
warning: nothing, just fluff
words: 1,500+
An entry for @augustinewrites's simple pleasures collab. Also, a redemption for my previous cheater!Iwa fics. Please heal your broken heart with this fic 💔
You know something off with Iwaizumi Hajime today. Iwaizumi is being petty. You can hear from the way he stomps his feet louder on your shared apartment floor, or from the way he scrunches his nose repeatedly. Even the coffee he served you this morning is a bit bitter than usual -he fails to put an ideal amount of sugar like he usually does.
Iwaizumi is being uneasy. You know he's been avoiding you since morning. His morning kisses turn into a quick single peck, a bit halfhearted. It's not he didn't want to kiss you -he really wants to, it's just his little act to show that he's still upset.
You think Iwaizumi is being petty over small things. The thing when you forgot to take daily vitamin he already prepare on your desk, when you failed to empty the 2 liters water gallon he gave you for the entire day of work, or when you prefer to eat more sweets rather than the fruit he stocks in the fridge.
And the peak was yesterday when he picked you up and you were talking about each other's day. You rambled on how you ended up skipping meals because you back up the work of your sick colleague.
His eyebrows furrow, "Why don't you at least grab some bento or onigiri in the convenience store?"
Yes, there's a convenience store exactly in front of your office, a great alternative to avoid the packed-up cafeteria for grabbing a quick meal, he knows very well.
"No, it's more convenient to finish the work as soon as possible. I can't stay late right? And I grab some biscuits tho."
He snorts, your carelessness is infuriating. "Whatever, I won't give a damn if you get sick," he says with eyes still focused on the traffic.
You chuckle at his pettiness. "I won't get sick Haji," resting your head on his shoulder and arm wrapping his biceps, forgetting how he has told you many times that your favorite butter biscuit can trigger your gastritis.
There are not many texts from Iwaizumi today, besides "Don't forget to eat a meal" with lots of exclamations. And unfortunately, it rains heavily today, the weather forecast failed to predict it -guess the forecaster got tricked just like you. You forgot to bring your umbrella and you didn't get any message from Iwa when you ask if he can pick you up. He didn't even read it.
So you decide to run to the nearest train station. Holding a clear file on the top of your head -a useless attempt to dispel the raindrops. It's cold, a strange rain in the middle of the winter transition.
The street is kinda busy, workers pass by, some with umbrellas and there are also others who desperately run from the rain, just like you. All you can hear are footsteps and the sound of rain hitting the ground and umbrellas.
"Hey hey, where are you going, miss?"
A familiar voice calls you, his hand holds your shoulder, making you slow down before turning your back. You notice the amount of water that comes to you is greatly reduced, there's only a small splash on the ground.
"Haji?" You found your boyfriend, holding a wide black umbrella.
"I thought you won't pick me."
"How could I won't??" He retorts, eyes observing your figure.
You look like a stray cat lost in the rain; hair messy, your clothes are almost drenched, and you must be shivering from the cold. Before you can further argue, he grabs your hand and guides you to where he parked the car.
"Let's just get home quickly, you're cold." His tone is stern but painted with concern. As much as you know that he's petty, he won't stop caring. You smiled as his warm hand holds yours.
When both of you settled in the car Iwaizumi start to speaks, "Sorry, my battery was running low. I didn't notice until it was turned off."
"It's okay, Haji."
You exhale in relief, "I thought you were still upset."
He smirked and took a glance at you, placing a hand on the top of your head. "Even if I'm still upset, I won't stop loving you though."
He shrugged, "You're a brat."
You chuckle in response, humming, "Your brat."
You open the door of your shared apartment. It's nice to finally feel the warm room temperature. After taking off your shoes, you take off your soaked shirt and skirt, placing them randomly on the floor.
Iwaizumi who's already entered the apartment room has come back with a piece of a white towel, wrapping you up in it.
"Go take a bath first." He pecked your temple.
You smiled sheepishly, "Won't you join me?"
He sighs, but in the second takes off his black polo, sending you a crook smile, "You are really insufferable."
Taking a warm bath as aftercare for the cold rain feels like heaven. After taking a bath and a warm dinner, Iwaizumi drags you to bed.
"You have to take a good rest," he said, enveloping your frame in his arm and stroking the crown of your head.
You don't argue, your head has already felt a bit heavy and it doesn't take long before you fell into a deep sleep.
Iwaizumi can sense your uneasiness because he's a light sleeper. The way you flip your body back and forth, also the way you kick out your blanket but ended up pinning him a bit closer.
Your breath is heavier and hotter than usual, your heart beats a bit faster. It's worrisome because you're not in the middle of having sex with him.
"This is bad," Iwaizumi thought. He's about to take a thermometer when he feels your hand tugging his t-shirt.
"Ngg Haji.." You talked in your sleep -maybe it's a bad dream.
"Shh.. Angel, I'm here okay," he whispered, stroking your hair locks and placing a soft kiss on your forehead.
Your expression becomes calm, easing your grab on him. He gave you the last pat before getting up and taking a digital thermometer.
The thermometer takes several seconds before beeping and showing a certain temperature. "It's really bad, 39 degrees huh? I should've come faster before she drenched in the stupid rain," he murmurs.
He took a gel patch and put a stripe on your forehead. You're smiling at the pleasing cool sensation. He smiled and lay down again beside you.
"You really made me worry," he said before falling asleep with you.
You wake up from the sun peeking through the window opening. Your eyes flutter open to find Hajime placing a glass of water on the table beside you.
"You woke up, Angel?" You nod, head still dizzy and your body doesn't feel right.
"You got a fever," he explained.
You blink several times and then-
"Hatchi!" You sneeze, suddenly your nose is runny.
"And flu maybe?"
You touch your forehead that covered by the cooling patch, realizing that Iwaizumi was taking care of you. You pout, looking at him apologetically, "Uh I'm sorry Haji."
He pats your head, "Don't worry okay, everyone gets sick once in a while."
"Sorry for not taking good care of myself."
"And I'm sorry for being petty too. I know that sometimes I am just not good at words. But seeing you so careless is just frustrating."
"And who can look after you on weekdays? Thank goodness at least you're sick on the weekends," he continues his scold.
But then, he soften, "I made you a soup. Let's eat breakfast before taking your medicine, okay?"
You nodded. You reach his hand and follow him to the kitchen, murmuring "I don't deserve you."
He chuckles, "Me too."
So, what's so bad about getting flu on the weekend when your boyfriend is around? Kiss, you won't and mustn't kiss him -of course, you would feel bad if you make Japan men's volleyball athletic trainers get sick.
He finds out that you keep staring at his lips. Then, he licks his upper lip and flattens it.
"No kisses until you recover," He coos.
"Uhhh.." You grunt and he chuckles at you for being pouty.
"You miss me that much huh?"
You snort, "I'm not," tugging the duvet and facing the other side.
He gathers you in his arms, "Are you sure you don't miss me, princess?"
You turn around to face him again. "I don't want you to get sick," you said with a low voice.
"I won't," he tugs your chin to see his adoring eyes before dragging you to a kiss. A kiss that is so soft, fleeting at the moment it touches your lips.
"An athletic trainer won't get sick," he said cockyly.
"Pfft.. is there any exception for that?" You chuckle.
He gives you another peck, "There is."
"Cut it out, Hajime."
But he strains your hands to steal another one, two, three, four, five more kisses, until you melt. Then he takes you to his embrace.
His body unreasonably feels cold against your hot body temperature. Maybe it's not a matter of hot or cold, but being with him makes you at ease.
The next day, your flu has gotten so much better, while Hajime also didn't show any symptoms either. You learn a new thing about him; not only does he have strong arms, his immunity is also strong as hell.

Dancing in the Dark [Bones x Reader]
Word Count: 4000+
Summary: You're a doctor on the USS Enterprise with a handful of work. Luckily, there to work beside you, is Doctor McCoy. It's nice to have a steady rhythm when you're working together
Requested by Anon
The flashing sign of a battery was the last thing you saw before your PADD shut off. You were in the middle of a medical refresher course and, due to your own stupidity, had disregarded the low battery warnings your tablet had given you. With a sigh, you put the dead device away. Realistically, you didn't need that course anyway, but you felt like you had to be at top notch performance for being a doctor on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
It was a huge honor to be given the position. You had worked your whole life for a spot on the Starfleet vessel. Only a half hour ago, you had received your orders, but you were already eager to get things moving. You didn't like waiting around when there were things to be done – especially when one of those things was getting you aboard the Enterprise. You made your way toward the loading dock and chatted away with other crew members who would be boarding with you.
"Yeah, I'll be working with Dr. McCoy," you were saying to one of your crewmates and fellow doctors. "Do you know him?"
"Unfortunately," she scoffed as she rolled her eyes. Was he that bad? She must've seen the concern in your eyes because she chuckled and put her hand on your shoulder. "Don't worry about it. He's good with the medical side of things, he just needs to work on his people skills." With that she joined the line that was forming to board the docking ship.
You took a deep breath. Here we go.
When you were finally on the ship, you went straight to your room so you could get changed into the blue dress and black boots you had been given. You sat down on your bed and checked your tablet which, to your relief, was now plugged in. Your instructions were to go to Deck 10 where you would meet your chief medical officer, Doctor Leonard McCoy. The minute you were sure of your instructions, you sprang to your feet and hurried to Deck 10.
***
"Don't touch that, Jim, unless you wanna end up in the ICU for the next few weeks while we treat your collapsed lung and failing liver!" You heard a southern voice yelling not far from your work assignment. You turned the corner to see a dark haired man snatching a tool away from a lighter haired man who was wobbling around the sickbay. As you walked closer they both turned to you.
"And who might you be?" the blond man questioned as he looked you up and down. As he stumbled closer to you, you tried to hold back a laugh.
"Doctor Y/N L/N," you replied. "And you are?"
The shouting, southern man pulled him back. "Delirious," he answered for him. "Go lie down, Jim, you aren't doing well."
"I'm fine, Bones. Just let go of me, and let me stand on my own." Jim slurred. As instructed, Bones let go of him. Jim extended his hand. "Captain James T. Kirk, nice to meet you." Then he immediately dropped to the floor.
"Great," Bones huffed. He bent down and started half carrying, half dragging him across the floor. You wrapped the Captain's arm around your shoulder and helped Bones raise him onto a bed. "At least we might get some peace and quiet around here now." Bones remarked as he injected Jim with a hypo.
"That's Captain Kirk?" you questioned incredulously.
Bones nodded. "Unfortunately, yes, that is the moron that Starfleet chose to control a space-bound, flying vessel with thousands of lives on board. Not to make you nervous or anything."
"Okay..." you replied. "Hey, I'll be out of your way here in a little bit. I'm just looking for Doctor McCoy."
"You're lookin' at him," Bones answered. His brown eyes met yours and you forgot what you wanted Doctor McCoy for at all. He stared at you expectantly, and you tried to remember what you were doing there.
"Listen," he said before you compiled your thoughts. "If you're one of the doctors from Deck 13, asking to change decks because of what happened to Doctor Hiskan-"
"No, I'm actually here as Doctor Puri's replacement," you interrupted as soon as you remembered. Even though you were now a bit curious about what had happened to Doctor Hiskan.
Bones crossed his arms. "I'm Doctor Puri's replacement," he argued.
You shrugged. "Then I guess I'm your replacement," you decided, not wanting to start an argument. You knew you were there to fill in somebody's empty space. Whoever's place it was didn't affect whether you would do your job or not.
"Yeah, well, I'm not gonna need a replacement if we can't get Kirk back on his feet so he can lead the Enterprise." Bones looked over at the unconscious blond laying on the bed you had dragged him onto.
"What's wrong with him?" you questioned McCoy as you got closer to study Kirk's symptoms.
"Don't know yet," he shook his head. "Came stumbling in here 'bout an hour ago too weak to even talk." He stopped and considered what he had said. "I kinda regret fixin' that for him."
"Do you mind if I examine him?" you asked even though you fully intended to do so with or without his permission.
He gestured for you to continue. "Be my guest, but if we can't find out what's wrong with him and cure him in 2 hours, it's gonna be a real hassle explaining to the flight council why the Enterprise is still on the ground." He picked up a PADD and disappeared behind the door to his office.
You kept examining Kirk as you carefully ruled problems out. You tried to work quickly but the more you learned, the more likely it was that there wasn't a quick and easy solution. Your eyes lit up when you decided you had the answer. You went to get Doctor McCoy, but right as you were about to knock on his door, it opened and he stepped out.
"We need a solution now," he said quickly. You flipped the tablet you were using so he could see.
"Kaddu poisoning," you offered simply. He snatched the PADD away from you to study closer.
"Mind telling me what that is exactly?" he questioned.
"The Kaddu are a reptilian race and the females can breathe poison in defense against males who aren't their kin," you answered, remembering what you had read in Starfleet Academy.
Bones rolled his eyes. "Yeah, that's just like him. How do we fix him?" You looked over at Kirk who was still out cold.
"The best we can do is let it wear off, but that could take at least three hours," You didn't want the takeoff to be postponed over something that would heal with time, but if the captain wasn't well, that was that.
"We don't have that kind of time so you need to find a way to get rid of it sooner," Bones replied. You knew he was right, but trying to rush the restoring could give you more problems than what you had to start with. You started thinking of alternate options.
"Wait, couldn't we just get Commander Spock to do the takeoff?" you asked, starting to get hopeful.
"Not unless he has the permission of the current captain who, lucky for us, is out like a light," Bones huffed.
"Couldn't we bend the rules a little?" you asked exasperated.
"Maybe, if Spock wasn't a pointy-eared rule book on legs."
Before you could suggest anything else Hiraku Sulu entered the medbay. "We need Captain Kirk on the bridge," he informed.
"Get Commander Spock down here immediately," you instructed him. Sulu took a curious look at Kirk before rushing back to the bridge.
Bones shook his head. "You're not gonna get him to break the rules," he stated. You walked over to Kirk.
"You're right, so get over here and help me wake him up."
Kirk sat up in the bed mumbling to himself while you and Bones waited for Spock to arrive. His delusions were getting worse, and his slurred speech didn't make it any easier to know what he was saying. You looked over at Doctor McCoy who was slowly pacing the Sickbay. His brow was furrowed in concentration and he had a hand resting at his mouth. He looked over your way and your gaze snapped away. You had only just realized you'd been staring. Before you had the time to be embarrassed, Spock arrived, and you snapped your attention back to the project at hand.
"Took ya' long enough!" Bones greeted him. "Get over here and listen to your captain give you orders to start the flight."
"Doctor, I believe I am owed an explanation." The Vulcan inferred. McCoy explained the situation with no small annoyance and with a few of his own choice words. After Spock was all caught up, Kirk started speaking louder as if he was addressing a crowd. You tried to quiet him down while Bones and Spock argued in the background.
"Medical code states that the treatment and transport of a patient is to be determined by his attending physician!" McCoy declared.
Spock turned to you. "You are his attending physician?"
Were you? You thought Bones was. You glanced behind Spock to see Bones vigorously nodding his head.
"Yes," you said hesitantly.
"And what do you think is best for your captain?" Spock questioned.
"I'm your captain!" Jim interrupted.
"I think he'll be better if we can get this ship moving," you decided.
Spock was quiet for a moment before saying, "Very well. Captain, your permission is required for me to start the launch." Kirk suddenly stopped talking and stared blankly at Spock. "Captain," Spock tried again to get a response. Kirk suddenly reached forward and grabbed either side of Spock's head.
"How do you think with these on your head?" he affronted Spock has he examined his ears. You and Bones rushed to the Vulcan's rescue and held Kirk's hands down.
"It is not my place to question your diagnosis--" Spock began.
"You're right, it's not," Bones interrupted. "Jim, just say 'start the launch'!" he commanded as he struggled to keep the captain's hand away from Spock. Even with Bones's persuasion skills, Kirk didn't give the order.
Can someone just hypo him? you thought as you held Kirk's other hand down.
As if the doctor had read your mind, he grabbed a hypo and pointed it in Kirk's direction. "So help me, I'll hypo you again, Jim!"
That made Kirk hesitate. He stopped struggling and glared at the hypo as if he had a personal vendetta against it.
"Start the launch," he finally grumbled.
Bones rolled his eyes. "Was that so hard?" he queried. Then, without any warning, he injected Kirk with the hypo he held in his hand.
"Hey!" Kirk yelled before collapsing unconscious on the bed. Bones tossed the now empty hypo to you and shooed Spock out of the medbay.
"Just in the nick of time," you remarked as you looked at the time.
"Yeah," Bones snorted. "Good thing you were here. I wouldn't have figured that out in near enough time."
You smiled at the praise. "I'm here to help," you responded.
Bones raised his brow. "You can prove that by taking inventory on the new supplies," he said as he handed you a PADD.
You smirked. "Sure, and while I'm at it, maybe I can find some more lemons for you to bite into," you teased as you took the PADD.
Bones rolled his eyes. "I'll let that slide today because you were quick on your toes. But just today, keep that in mind," he added with a short chuckle before walking back to his office.
You turned around to face the supplies, and without another moment's hesitation you officially started your first day of work on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
***
It had been a month since you joined the crew of the Enterprise. It had proved to be just challenging enough for your liking. You were always doing something, always busy. Every day seemed to bring some new and exciting predicament into your infirmary.
It was a good thing that you and Bones made such good team. To cut the work in half you and Bones had divided the sickbay in two (one side for you, and the other for him). The two of you worked back-to-back in a pleasant rhythm.
You had just finished some last minute tasks on your side and looked over at McCoy. He was frowning at a PADD as he harshly pressed the buttons on it.
"What did that tablet do to you?" you teased as you walked over with a smirk.
Bones tossed the PADD onto a nearby bed. "It just stopped working, cold turkey," he grumbled.
"I guess I'd better get back to work then," you joked as you walked back over to your side. He followed you over and rolled his eyes.
"Not what I meant," he said as he picked another tablet up. "Have these things been workin' for you?"
You furrowed your brow. "Actually I think one quit on me yesterday," you informed. You hadn't thought anything of it at the time, but now it seemed a little strange. You looked around, and some of the nurses seemed frustrated with their PADDs too. "What do you think it could be?"
"I'm a doctor not a mechanic," Bones reminded you. You were about to try a different PADD when Captain Kirk walked into the med bay.
"Jim, our tablets aren't working down here," Bones complained before the captain could get one word out.
Kirk sighed. "They aren't on the bridge either. I was hoping for a different story here," he said. "How's the medical equipment?"
"Working. For now," Bones grunted. Did he really think they would go out too?
"If the medical equipment goes out we'll be in big trouble," you commented.
Jim looked over at you like he just noticed you were there. "Have we met?"
"Hardly," you responded trying to hold back a laugh as you remembered the last time you had seen your captain in person. "I treated you when you were high on Kaddu poisoning."
"Right," he said. "I guess we should pick up where we left off." He extended his hand to you. "Captain James T. Kirk." Bones pushed him back by his shoulder.
"Can you focus on the task at hand instead of flirting with every girl you see?" he growled. Kirk brushed him off.
"Ah, Bones, not every girl I see, just the good looking ones," he said with a quick wink to you. Bones rolled his eyes and grumbled something under his breath.
"Doctor McCoy is right, Captain," you said trying to direct Kirk's attention back to the problem. "Our PADDs are where we keep our medical records and files."
"I'll get Scotty on it." Kirk promised. "Until then, Bones, you'll have to fill out hardcopies of your files." You could almost feel your wrist cramping for the doctor. Even though there were some files you had to have hard copies for anyway, you knew that adding all the files you put on the PADDS to the list would make things much more difficult for him.
You heard Bones swear under his breath. "Listen, Jim, I'm a doctor not a secretary!" Kirk clapped Bones on the shoulder in mock sympathy.
"I'm sure it'll be no problem you being the chief medical officer and all," he taunted. "And if it is I might have to replace you with another more attractive option." He looked over at you and smiled. You would've blushed if you hadn't known his words were empty. With a final pat on the shoulder he added to Bones, "Don't take it personally," and walked out of the med bay.
Bones turned back to his side of the med bay grumbling to himself. You stared after him realizing you probably shouldn't let him sulk off like that, but you sighed and returned to your own work.
Later in the day Scotty and Keenser came to Sickbay and collected all the tablets. You watched as Bones grudgingly gave the tablets to them, and you couldn't help but feel bad for him. You knew that paperwork was no fun, especially when doing it alone. You walked over to Bone's side of the medbay.
"Doctor McCoy," you called to get his attention. He looked up from what he was doing, and walked over to you.
"It's Bones," he commented before letting you continue.
"Bones," you corrected yourself as a couple nurses raised their brows. "If you want, I could stay here and help you with the paperwork," you offered. You noticed by now that some of the nurses had cleared off his side of the room. Had you done something wrong? You started second guessing yourself, but you saw Bone's eyes go soft for just a moment. It didn't last long but you couldn't get the look out of your mind.
"Well it would be nice to actually get some help around here," he commented with a side glare to the nurses who had scurried away.
"See you later then," you said as you hastily turned on your heel and continued to work for the rest of the day.
***
It had been a couple weeks since the all the PADDS had been taken from you and Doctor McCoy. You both stayed late at work to fill out papers, and as a result you and Bones kept losing more and more sleep.
Nobody had expected the PADDS to be gone this long, and people had started noticing other electronic devices giving way. Captain Kirk had reported losing power on the bridge once or twice, which always scared people. But you had to be honest with yourself; you hardly even processed the reports from the bridge anymore. Your lack of sleep just made you more stressed during the day and it took a lot of focus not to turn into a grump like McCoy.
You looked over at him now. His hair was unkempt and his shirt was wrinkled, most-likely from not having enough energy to care about sleeping in it. He seemed to have a permanent scowl on his face even more than before. You used to pass the time with talking, but the only time you talked to each other now, was when you were so bored with paperwork that you finally resorted to social interaction. You felt a buzz on your wrist as your watch told you it was time to clock out. You shut it off and sighed, knowing that the real work had only just begun.
You walked over to McCoys office and opened the door to see him already drowning in papers.
"You should go to bed." Bones grunted without looking up.
"And you shouldn't?" you retorted as you pulled up a chair. "I'm not leaving you to do all this by yourself." You just then realized how much it actually was. It could have just been sleep deprivation talking, but you thought this was the biggest workload yet. Bones glanced over at you but didn't respond and you started filling out the papers.
Two hours of nothing but paper, pen, and ink drove you crazy, and you had to set the pen you were holding down and lean back for a minute. You didn't dare close your eyes for fear of falling asleep and Bones trying to finish this by himself, but you massaged your cramped wrist and stretched your back. You were about to pick up the pen and continue when the speakers in the office suddenly burst out static. You cringed at the sound but it eventually faded away and what came next was even worse. It had to be the corniest southern music you had ever heard blaring through the speakers filling the room. Bones stood up and gave you a questioning look before opening his comlink.
"Jim, what's this?" he yelled over the music. A groggy voice answered.
"What's what, Bones? Is it so important you had to wake me up?" Kirk questioned.
"Sorry to disrupt your beauty sleep, your highness, but could you turn this down or off," Bones scoffed.
"What are you talking about?" Kirk asked exasperated. The music was getting louder at the chorus and you scrambled to find a remote as Bones yelled at Kirk. When you found the remote, the power button didn't work so you had to just turn the music down. Looking up you saw Bones stomping over to you.
"He hung up, that little--"
"The music might actually be nice," you interrupted. "Something to occupy the other half of our minds?"
Bones grunted and trudged back to his desk. You sat down and grabbed the pen, but you couldn't seem to bring your hand to the page. The slow music in the background certainly wasn't helping you stay awake and you were about ready to fall asleep on the desk. You felt your eyes fill with tears and you buried your head in the papers so Bones wouldn't notice. You just wanted to stop doing insane amounts of paperwork every night. Sure you had volunteered in the first place, but you could hardly do it with two people let alone with one. You were about to crash and go to sleep right there when suddenly the music turned up. You looked up to see Bones extending his hand to you.
"You need a break and so do I," he said, prompting you to take his hand. "I actually know this song."
You wanted to just keep working and get the job done, but Bone's soft and caring expression drew you toward him and you took his hand. He pulled you closer to him and rested his hand on your waist. You placed a hand on his shoulder and let him lead you in a slow rocking movement. You held his hand firmly and let him hold you close to him so he could keep you from falling over from exhaustion. You rested your head on his shoulder and even though you felt tired enough to collapse into his arms your heart seemed to be wide awake and very excited to be so close to the doctor. You felt Bones rest his head on yours as he gently lead you to the rhythm.
"I can't let you keep overworking yourself, Y/N," he muttered into your hair. You lightly shook your head.
"Work is much more difficult when you're alone," you commented quietly. He let go of your hand and wrapped both of his arms around you. You hugged his neck and closed your eyes just for a second.
"Well, if anyone is going to help me, I'm glad it's you," he mumbled. You raised your head to look into his eyes. They looked back softly, and he pressed his head against yours.
"Me too," you agreed. He smiled and kissed you gently. You suddenly didn't seem so tired as you smiled into his kiss and hugged him closer to you.
"I love you, Y/N," Bones whispered.
"And I love you, Leonard McCoy," you whispered back. Bones took you by the hand.
"We can finish this tommorow," he decided. "It'll be easier if we're well rested." You nodded in agreement and followed Bones as he lead you to your room.
You stood in the doorway for a moment before saying, "Believe it or not, I may actually be looking foreward to the paperwork tommorow."
Bones chuckled and started walking back to his room. "Goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight." You turned around wondering how you would ever get to sleep now, but as soon as you hit the bed you were out cold.
You jumped awake to the sound of Captain James Kirk finishing an announcement over the speakers. Because you were still waking up, you didn't catch all of the annoucement, but you would just ask Bones about it later. You checked the time and saw that you majorly overslept. You quickly got dressed and rushed to Sickbay.
"Sorry I'm late," you said to no one in particular as you jogged through the door. Bones walked over to you immediately.
"Tablets are working again," he said as cheerfully as he seemed capable. "Something about accidentally stumblin' into an electromagnetic field? Fried a couple circuits, including some of the radios, but we should be gettin' out of it now."
You didn't really know how to respond to that. Obviously it was good news, but you wanted to spend more time with Bones.
He must've guessed what you were thinking because he walked closer to you and hugged you. "Hey, this isn't a bad thing. Now we can spend time together under not-so-stressful circumstances."
You smiled at the thought of spending real time with the handsome doctor. "I'd like that," you easily decided. Both of you smiling, you walked back to your sides in the medbay. The speakers were still playing that stupid song from last night, but you didn't mind it so much now. You glanced over at Bones who was already scowling at the tools he held in his hands. Something told you were going to enjoy the rest of your time on the Enterprise.

On creating unique heirloom artifacts
Mankind is entering a low-power stage. Even if this civilization recovers from the upcoming end of oil, I don't expect this current level of per-capita power - roughly 2.6 kilowatts continuously, at least in the EU - to be a normal state of living for the next 50000 years. We will have to abandon our high-powered activities, which will make low-powered devices much more attractive than today.
Phones and laptops are currently the most power-efficient computing devices we have. This low-power usage paradoxically relies on a very high-complexity production process: the manufacturing of high-density chips. This high density is the most important factor for power savings, vastly more important than any other architecture and power-saving structures.
Since we're moving towards simplification, this means that this decade's chips are more power efficient than almost anything that will come afterwards - at least when looking at comparable price points. This makes our current phones and laptops unique assets that can only grow in value. It's easy to underestimate how powerful these things are, because they're being used to work on utter mundanity. For comparison, the calculator app on my phone alone would have replaced hundreds of workers calculating ballistic trajectories in WW1. The charger chip in my phone cable has more computing power than the Apollo Moon lander.
These chips are technological marvels that we'll only ever produce in a limited time window. Before 1950 we didn't know how, and after 2050 we'll have lost most of the infrastructure to do keep these high-tech facilities running.
Currently these chips are easy and cheap to produce, so there are hundreds of billions of them on the planet. But because humanity only has a 100-year window to produce them, this is still a limited supply that needs to last tens of thousands of years. Worse, we're treating these chips as disposable, so 99% of these chips end up being destroyed after a 2-5 year use window. To me that's a tragedy because they have a near-infinite lifespan, when treated correctly. [yes I know about ionic electrochemical migration; it's an overrated concern] It also means that if you preserve your own chips, and know how to leverage them, you'll have a unique advantage over most other people.
The preservation of these chips is facing a couple of issues. Some of those are obvious (batteries, breaking touchscreens), some of those less so. There's a unique multiplier to adapting to these challenges now, before collapse progresses too much.
I'm writing this post to help you preserve your chips, which I consider one of the biggest marvels that mankind has ever created.
Issue #1: Batteries
Batteries are the most immediate aging bottleneck. No matter the chemistry, they all die within a couple of years. They're chemically fragile and don't store well, so I can't recommend stocking up. If there's no radical battery breakthrough in the next couple of years, we're going to lose battery operation for most phones and laptops completely. I'll assume that this will happen.
The easiest solution for failing batteries would be to hook up a phone / laptop to a less portable power source, like a bike generator, water wheel, or solar panel. Those are fairly low-tech and will probably be widely available long into civilizational collapse, but you'll need a rectifier and a DC-DC converter to run a phone / laptop with them. Both of those are going to become unavailable in the next decade or two.
For anything besides a water wheel, you'll have to deal with fluctuating power sources. My best idea for that are supercapacitors. They're bulky, they're relatively expensive, they don't hold their charge well, but they'll basically last forever. Especially for mobile operations powered by solar panels or hand cranks, a small array of supercapacitors would be essential. Specifically for this combo of solar panels and supercapacitors, you'll also need a buy a MPTT charge controller before they become unavailable.
In stationary usage, nickel-iron batteries or potential power storage could be good alternatives. These are fairly low-tech and not urgent to procure.
Issue #2: Touchscreens
They obviously break. Less obviously, they're surprisingly hard to produce, because they use Indium, one of the rarest elements on the planet, for their core function. There's no plausible way to repair a broken screen, and because the quantities on the screen are so low, recycling the Indium is also implausible. This means that touchscreens for your device will become unavailable in the next decade or two. It's possible that we'll get graphene touchscreens soon, which should be a bit simpler to produce than our current models, potentially extending the availability of replacement touchscreens beyond 2030. But good luck getting one for your specific phone.
The low-tech solution is to protect the screens. Use heavy-duty cases, laptop cases, maybe even a padded enclosure when you're facing rough travel.
But inherently, this fragility makes phones less viable than laptops. With a laptop, you can change or repair a keyboard, you can switch to fully remote operation with a network cable, or you could set it up to operate with esoteric input (audio cues, for example). A broken screen also opens up the phone for water damage.
Issue #3: Software
Obviously, after the end of Google or Apple, all of your purchased apps are not going to be available. Unless you've already downloaded them to your phone. AND NEVER DELETE THEM AGAIN. Don't run out of storage space (a topic continued in issue #4).
On the app side, there's a big split between the two camps:
Android makes it possible to install third-party apps, so you'll probably have a choice of aftermarket app stores for a decade or longer. You can also re-install apps if you happen to have the APK stored somewhere else.
On the Apple side, this looks much worse: you'd need a jailbroken phone to install new apps. And even most contemporary jailbreaks essentially expire after 8 days, requiring you to fetch permission from Apple each time. The last iPhone that was fully jailbreakable was the iPhone 5. If you, like me, prefer the iPhone, that's probably going to be your device for the majority of your remaining life. I own two. You also need to jailbreak them while Apple still exists, because they need to sign a cryptographic certificate in the process.
Bonus points: if you do end up perma-jailbreaking your iPhone 5, you'll also unlock the full compute platform, allowing you to develop your own apps on a separate computer. I recommend downloading Xcode and the Swift documentation if you want to go that route.
Because there's no more firmware updates, you'll also be vulnerable to exploits and hacker attacks. Once Apple and Google are gone, I'd recommend **going offline outside your home network** and avoid the risk of your phone becoming unusable.
Issue #4: MOSFETs
This is where it gets fiddly.
Every computer, no matter how big or how small, has a few DC-DC converters. MOSFETs are the reliable, powerful and cheap core component in these DC-DC converters. They'll also all fail within 20-50 years, mostly because they're usually undersized for their purpose (for multiple money reasons).
Almost all other electronic components have an effective lifespan in the tens of decades, potentially centuries, but MOSFETs tend to die much earlier. This wouldn't be bad in itself - we'll have plenty of spare parts from millions of other broken electronics - but the insidious fact is that, when MOSFETs die, they usually kill an important chip too. And those are not easily replaceable, and not repairable at all.
There is a good mitigation for this:
You add a transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode in parallel with your chip, which you can think of as a bulletproof vest. It'll take the hit when the MOSFET tries to kill the chip. And you add a small fuse before your MOSFET, so it doesn't kill anything upstream either.
These two components are tiny and cheap, but this needs to be done for every one of your devices, at multiple locations, possibly up to 30 times. You'll need a skilled repair person for this who knows how to modify existing circuits. Both the TVS diode and the fuse also need to have the right voltage and current values for each local circuit - just like picking the right size of bulletproof vest.
There's potential to be fooled here by some supposed expert who just puts in some random TVS diodes and fuses that they happen to have in stock. Potentially they don't even know that the right values are important. And you'll only notice that they made a mistake years or even decades later. I expect this to become a "on customer demand" service at electronic repair stores in the 2030s. Don't skimp on this and get someone reputable.
Issue #5: NAND degradation
This is where it gets ugly.
Every cell of storage in your phone / laptop has a limited life span. The more often you write to it, the shorter it will ultimately last. After the end of its life is reached, each cell gets marked as dead, and your overall capacity shrinks. This is not repairable.
Because all existing operating systems are designed to take storage as disposable, there are almost no options to avoid this issue. In phones, you can only mitigate:
- leave a decent amount of empty space to spread the depletion across multiple cells - pay someone to install a fresh storage chip (which you stocked up on, wisely) - generally avoid saving big data (videos, pictures etc)
On laptops, you have a few more obscure choices that all boild down to one thing: perform most of the operations in RAM (which has a practically indefinite lifespan) with a read-only operating system.
You can also mitigate with other physical media (harddrives, tape) but those will also break eventually, without adequate replacement. Reliable data storage during civilizational collapse is a whole separate can of worms.
NAND depletion is the factor that's probably going to kill 99% of even the collapse-adapted devices. If you want to mitigate for this, essentially creating a valuable heritage artifact, always get the highest capacity storage and stock up on the NAND chips that are compatible with your devices. You can buy the chips themselves new, but they're not super cheap ($10-$20). I'd suggest buying a broken phone instead, the same model as your own. Even old phones have basically virgin NAND chips. Avoid water-damaged phones and the ones that don't charge. Physical damage is the best.

✒ P.S. I Love You ✒
***
(Y/N) and Victor's grandchild closed and locked the door after the gentlemen left. She, then, turned to look at the old wooden box which V left on the table for her. She sat on the sofa and opened the thing, revealing its contents. And when she saw the amount of photographs that were in it, the emotions flooded her chest once more. As she took the photograph that showed her grandparents' wedding charade, she simply let her tears flow freely.
Despite those tears clouding her sight, she didn't wipe them away like what she did before. Instead, she held the photograph close to her chest, imagining how happy her grandparents must be during those trouble - free times.
She turned to the side table, carefully placing the precious photograph next to the small framed picture of her one and only grand daughter who was in Paris. She, then, sighed, letting her eyes roam from her grandparents to her grandchild.
Finally lingering on her grandparents' image, she whispered, "Please keep those people safe."
"What do we do now?" Roman asked V as they made their way back towards the mansion.
"We must find the container where their souls are hidden," V answered, his voice and his sight as resolute as ever. " ... then, we'll set them free."
"What about Avery?"
"We'll prevent Lancaster from sacrificing her."
"And that monster?"
V stopped and looked down at Griffon, who was waiting for him to go back home, the metal cane, which he abandoned, still on his waiting beak. The poet didn't hesitate and took it from his familiar, who flew and landed on his shoulder.
Then, he faced the door of the mansion one more time.
"We'll send him to where he belong," He answered. " ... to Hell."
***
XV
***
Both V and Roman were fully expecting something to attack them the moment they step foot inside the now dark and desolate place. However, all seemed normal.
Strangely normal, given the dire situation they were in.
"Aren't there any monsters here that would attack us?" Roman questioned, making both the poet and the familiar look at him with raised eyebrows.
"You seemed,... rather eager." V answered him as he threw his cane and caught it with his other hand.
"I - i'm not! It's just,... the silence is too suspicious. You know what I'm saying?"
The man was right. It was too quiet. "We should not underestimate our enemy." V uttered in a low voice as he took a few cautious steps forward towards the grand staircase, still half - expecting Roselle, or that still unknown creature that tried to kill Nico, to come out of the shadows and make its move. "This is Christopher Lancaster we're talking about, after all."
"Alright." Roman said as he pulled out his red handkerchief from his pocket and wore it around his head like a headband. He inhaled through his nostrils and shook his shoulders, making Griffon roll his eyes. "I'm ready!"
V only gave Avery's fiancé a sideways glance and a grin as he made his way to the second floor. At least, someone's excited to take on that Demon,...
Never letting their guard down, the Summoner, the familiar, and the human made their way towards the second floor. However, no creature of any kind made itself known, the entire floor was void of the heavy feeling that once taunted V to do suicide, but most importantly,...
... he was not being pulled into another timeline.
What,... is happening here? V thought as he led the way straight towards the accursed third room, still expecting for anything to happen or to attack them. He turned the brass door knob and pushed the door open, bracing himself for what was to come,...
"AVERY!" Roman howled as he sped past V and Griffon and made his way straight towards the center of the room where his beloved fiancée was, unconscious and tied to a chair.
"You, imbecile!" Griffon whispered, mocking at Roman's callous actions. "That evil doctor might - !"
V held out a hand before the demonic familiar could even blurt out any more insult, and made his way to where the couple was.
"Don't worry, sweetheart, I'll get you out of here." Roman said as he tried to untie Avery from the chair. However, as V came along to help, he noticed the wounds on both of her arms, the blood that dripped from them forming something on the ground beneath their feet. And when the gentlemen gazed down at it, they drew back in fear,...
... for the blood that was flowing from Avery's wounds was slowly forming a huge crimson pentacle on the floor - a seven - pointed star that matched the illustration from the booklet of Demons that the old woman showed them.
The ritual,... was nearing its completion.
"There was a man,... from another plane of existence,"
V, Roman, and Griffon all looked at the vicinity of the desk a few feet from where they were standing and saw, in their utter fright, a strange gentleman sitting behind it, his long and bony fingers that partially covered the lower part of his pallid face intertwined, his thick, dark brows furrowed in deep contemplation.
And at the mere sight of the strange one alone, V felt all of his power leave his body at the same time his heart became heavy with utter dread, unexplainable grief, and sheer hopelessness.
It was the man, himself.
"... who once dreamed of achieving immortality and eternal glory beyond human perception." The man, whose pair of red, sinister eyes seemingly made V's blood freeze, went on. "Abducting numerous little girls and molding them into his,... idea,... of earthly perfection. This man, and a number of followers, sacrificed these innocent children, one by one, until Pandemonium, the Demon he worshipped, finally chose that one perfect vessel, a fitting equivalent exchange for the wish that was to be fulfilled. However, he made a huge and irrevocable mistake." The man uncovered his face, finally letting the men see his familiar and intimidating visage, and stood from his chair, making his way closer towards them. "The vessel's sister, an imperfect being crippled with earthly flaws, who he failed to kill, and who was, then, chosen by the Sisters Of Fate for her will to save a loved one, retaliated, setting into motion a chain of events that ultimately," The man stopped a few inches away from them, his overwhelming presence stealing their will to live and survive. " ... led to Pandemonium's downfall,... and the man's,... demise.
"But, I' am far from that foolish man." The man simply told them as he gave each of them a look that conveyed a form of overwhelming power that resided within him. "I do not wish to achieve perfection, nor do I make it out of false dreams. Bedlam has opened my eyes to the harsh reality of this world. To the ugliness of the world's truth. I vow to share this,... great blessing,... to everyone who would kneel to me."
"KNEEL, MY ASS! YOU, EVIL, INSANE GODDAMN WITCH DOCTOR!" Roman howled, blindly charging towards the man with every intent to tackle him on the ground and give him a piece of his mind before V could even stop him.
"You listen when someone older than you is speaking!" The doctor rebutted as he simply made a flicking gesture with his right hand, summoning a form of unseen power that flung poor Roman to the other end of the room, making him instantly unconscious, the impact of his landing scattering and breaking some of the old and dusty furniture that lay on the ground. The doctor, then, turned to V and gave him a challenging look. "And you, oh, foolish poet? I believe you wish to challenge me, as well."
V visibly flinched at the insurmountable force before him, yet, he still tried to face the enemy by calling upon his familiars to attack the doctor simultaneously. With utter fear etched into their very bone and core, the familiars, Griffon and Shadow, went all out with their attacks, sending lightning bolt after lightning bolt and spear after morphed spear of attacks.
And, as expected, the powerful attacks from the familiars, which were supposedly enough to bring down an entire horde of higher Demons, didn't do anything to the doctor, who only stood still and took everything without so much as a blink of an eye. The familiars took one more shot, this time, by combining their powers as Griffon sent Shadow his most powerful lightning attack, and the feline receiving the power and morphing into a set of massive spears, skewering the doctor in every part of his body and frying him alive at the same time.
For a second, they thought that they succeeded but, as soon as Shadow morphed back into her feline form looking beaten and Griffon settled down on the ground, actually looking like a worn - out wind - up toy relying on batteries to move, the doctor slowly stood up from the ground where he was beaten, his wounds healing and the tears on his clothes closing up like nothing even happened.
"Oh, you've got to be fucking kidding me!" Griffon howled annoyingly as the doctor made his way towards him, grabbing the poor bird by his wings and tearing him apart like paper, spilling his blood and guts on the floor and making him enter his stalemate state.
"Hmm, just like on that other plane." The doctor uttered to himself. And before V could even lift a finger to call Shadow back, the doctor kicked the poor feline in her mid section, successfully dismantling her, turning her back into ash and making her enter stalemate like Griffon. "That one, not so much."
With eyes wide with disbelief, teeth gritted in anger, and thoughts wild and disarrayed with panic, V hastily raised his left arm, his fingers ready for the snap that would summon his trump card.
However, the doctor proved to be much faster as he seemingly phased from his position next to the stalemated familiars to his side, steadily holding V's left arm and threatening to even break it. The doctor held up a finger, swaying it from side to side as he playfully shook his head, his sadistic smile making V feel weaker than ever before.
V, despite his growing hopelessness, made up his mind, not wanting to lose to this evil doctor. He struggled and snapped his fingers, waiting for his most powerful ally to bring down the house and finish the doctor for him.
To hell with this mansion! This evil must be stopped,... at all cost!
He waited and waited but, nothing happened.
And this only made the doctor smile even wider, the side of his lips almost reaching his ears.
V,... lost to Christopher Lancaster.
The doctor let go of his arm, letting him collapse and cower with fear on the ground. Then, after all this, the enemy simply stepped away and made his way towards Avery, who was still tied to the chair, bleeding and unconscious.
"Now, you see how benevolent I' am." Lancaster told V as he checked Avery's pulse and checked on his pocket watch like he was still a normal doctor. "I gave you the chance to play along. Allowed the both of us to settle the score. But, you have only wasted my time." The doctor hid his pocket watch and gave V a sideways glance. "I suggest you leave now. Before I change my mind."
"Ouch!" Roman winced in pain as he finally gained consciousness a few minutes later, rubbing his temples and looking around him. At the center of the room, he found Lancaster checking on Avery's pulse, and on one corner, he saw V kneeling in front of two floating, glowing orbs that weakly pulsated with dull red and blue lights. "V?" He limped his way towards his companion, only to see the utter shock in the poet's eyes.
Like he completely lost all hope and his will to keep on living.
"What happened?" Roman asked the poet, his sight darting from him to the strange orbs floating above the ground.
"We lost." The poet uttered monotonously.
"W - what?! How did we - ?"
"Lancaster,... is far too strong than what we could've imagined."
Roman's eyes widened with utter disbelief. He collapsed on the ground and placed both of his hands on V's shoulders. "You're kidding, right? Y - you're V! And you're the strongest man I've ever met! And the bravest one! You can't just lose to that evil doctor!"
The poet looked at him, his eyes suspiciously cloudy like he was in a trance, and gave him a wry smile. "This is a mistake. I should not have accepted this job in the first place. I should have ran away from the start. I should not have faced Christopher Lancaster."
And this only made Roman lose his temper. "AND WHAT ABOUT AVERY, HUH?! SHE NEEDS US!"
"She's,... lost to us."
"WHAT ABOUT NICO?! DON'T TELL ME HER SACRIFICE LED TO NOTHING!"
"As I've said, this is a mistake,... right from the very start."
"AND WHAT ABOUT (Y/N), HUH?" Roman screamed angrily at V as he shook his shoulders hard enough, hoping for the man to come to his sense. "SHE NEEDS YOU! YOU HAVE TO SET HER SOUL FREE! DO YOU WANT HER TO BE DAMNED TO HELL?! V, TALK TO ME!"
"(Y/N),... means nothing to me,..."
"FUCK YOU!" Roman swore as he punched V on the cheek. The poet's face jerked sideways with the sheer force of the mad and disappointed fiancé.
Meanwhile, V felt like his soul was floating into nothingness. He couldn't see nor hear anything. And yet, this strange voice, this achingly familiar voice, kept calling to him. He tried to follow the sound despite his blindness. He reached out, his hands wanting to grasp this familiar something,...
"I'm here, Victor." The voice told him. "Follow my voice."
"(Y/N),... ?" V called as he opened his eyes,...
... and saw the ceiling of the familiar office. Feeling numbness all over his body, he carefully sat up and gazed at the room. He was sure it was the same room, however, somehow, he felt at ease. His chest no longer felt heavy, and his whole body felt really light. A sense of calm radiated all over the place, and even the sun shone brightly and cheerfully outside.
He carefully sat up, surveying the atmosphere around him, and finally stood, his eyes darting from one furniture to the next.
Then, he heard it once more: the voice of an angel.
V opened the door and made his way towards the source of the sound, his ears wanting to feast on the lovely sound and his soul longing to bask in it. He went down the staircase, walked past the Grecian statues, and made his way directly towards the Library where he knew she was. He took a deep breath and opened the door, the light of the room blinding him momentarily and the sweet scent that was wafting from it overwhelming his senses.
And when his eyes finally adjusted to the brightness of the room, he saw her there, sitting on a stool in front of the piano, singing an achingly familiar tune he has unfortunately forgotten as she flawlessly played the simple notes. His eyes burning at the sight and his chest bursting with gladness, he slowly made his way towards her, his steps as light as they could possibly be in fear that she would vanish at the slightest disturbance.
And when he was finally so close next to her, she stopped playing and gazed up at him, a smile on her young and gentle face.
It was, indeed, (Y/N). The girl he knew from his visions. The girl who has, undoubtedly, captured his, and Victor's, heart.
The girl,...
... right before all the tragedies and nightmares in the house occurred.
"You're not supposed to be here." She told him, a hint of disappointment in her lovely (E/C) eyes.
"I,..." V began, suddenly, and for the first time ever, at a loss for his own words. "I lost,... to him."
(Y/N) furrowed her eyebrows, the amused smile still not leaving her beautiful and healthy visage. "That wasn't supposed to happen."
"I,... forgive me." V apologized, feeling defeated and dejected.
To this, the girl smiled tenderly and slightly moved, making a space on the stool for him and gesturing at it with her dainty right hand. "Come, sit with me." The poet did so, and the moment he was mere inches from her, his arms actually brushing against the soft fabric of her (F/C) dress, she smiled and positioned her fingers over the keys. Those adorable fingers glided on the keys once more, and a few notes in, V was taken prisoner. He closed his eyes, feeling the music overtake his mind, his heart, and his whole being.
He really wished he could stay here forever.
Forever,... with her,...
It seemed like forever, though, her playing the piano and him listening to it wholeheartedly. And when her music gradually came to a slow halt, V finally opened his eyes and let them fall on her immaculate figure.
"Heaven." V whispered softly, making her turn and look straight into his eyes. "Is this,... heaven? If so, then I would not want to go back."
(Y/N) smiled as she reached out a hand, lying it gently onto V's face. The poet grasped her hand, her warmth calming his senses and putting his chaotic soul at ease. "You have no idea how long I have waited for this. For us to be this close, to feel your touch again, to hear your voice so close to my ear." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, her brows furrowing as tears drenched those long eyelashes of hers. "You have no idea,... how much I love you. I love you so much. Even after death, my heart still beats for you and you alone.
"But, you don't belong here, V." She opened her eyes, her smile turning into a frown that tore V's heart in two. "You belong with your friends, your family, with people who loves you."
V cupped her cheeks and rested his forehead against hers, their breaths mingling and their eyes looking deeply into each other. "I don't want to lose you, ever again."
(Y/N) closed her eyes, the smile returning to her face once more. "You never lost me. I stayed with you, and I always will. Until the end of time. But, we are both lost in this labyrinth." She took his hands and brought them down, her eyes conveying something that triggered a dormant emotion deep within V's chest. "As much as I wanted to let you stay here, I simply can't. You have to fulfill your mission. You have to set us free and save the woman from being sacrificed to the Devil. You must defeat Christopher Lancaster."
"But, I can't! I'm,... powerless against him! I - "
"You can defeat him, V." She told him, her resoluteness starting a fire inside his chest. "You have to believe that you can. He is but a mere fragment of the past animated by the Demon Bedlam to carry on an insidious mission on this world. He is but a mere puppet. And a puppet like him,... could never lay a finger on the one who believes in hope."
The moment (Y/N) mentioned the Demon's name, V felt a tremor beneath his feet, the room suddenly felt heavy, and the sun outside seemed to abruptly set.
This plane,... was starting to collapse.
Despite that fact, the girl still gazed lovingly at his eyes and held his hands, giving him all the encouragement he needed for the mission that was wiped out of his mind from the moment he admitted his lost to the evil doctor.
And now that he could finally remember everything, of Avery giving him the mission in the first place, of Roman, who supported him and stood his ground despite his own weakness, of (Y/N) and Victor's grandchild bidding them a successful return, of his familiars supporting him along the way, of Nico, who accepted him as a friend despite his flaws and their differences and did her best to help him,...
... of the woman who wrote those messages,...
... of this one girl he wanted to save,...
"The time is running out. You must leave. Now."
V stood up and took a few steps away from her. And before he could finally turn away, he felt a hand on his arm, turning him around, and,...
He closed his eyes, letting her soft lips glide against his. And for the very first and last time, V wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing her closer to him and reciprocating her gesture of undying affection by showering her with the utmost passion he didn't know he possessed.
He wanted,... so very badly,... to go on kissing her like this, to show her how much she meant to him, to give her everything that life has stolen from her. To love her right then and there. But, he knew he couldn't. Her time on this world was over, her story about to end. His, on the other hand, was only beginning. And she knew this, as well. And when their lips finally parted, he felt her slid her hand on his pocket, putting something in it. She, then, broke away from his embrace and stepped away, letting her fingers glide on the smooth surface of her beloved piano one last time as the world before them started collapsing, shattering like glass, its shards and pieces falling apart one by one.
She smiled and waved her hand. "I'll see you soon, V."
"What - ?" He began but he was interrupted when he felt a hand grab him by the wrist. He turned around and saw (Y/N)'s loyal maidservant looking up at him.
"Young master, I'll help you get out of here!" She told him, dragging him along and leading the way out of the shattering plane. "This is the very last thing I will do for you. Believe in my lady's words, and you will be able to defeat him. Do everything you can to set us free. And do not lose hope! Do not lose hope! Do not - "
" - LOSE HOPE!" He heard Roman's voice as he finally opened his eyes, seeing the fiancé’s flustered and angry face. "DO NOT,... LOSE HOPE!"
V let those words sink in as he slowly got up, giving Lancaster an angry look as the doctor watched them like they were animals.
"I will not." The poet muttered, grabbing the metal cane from the floor and facing his enemy one more time. "You are just a mere puppet. A mere instrument for the Devil's machinations. And you will never,... succeed,... not today, not tomorrow,... NOT WHILE I LIVE!"
"Such fancy words for a useless man such as yourself!" Lancaster mocked, showing his sardonic smile once more.
"I'm not useless." V uttered, taking even more resolute steps towards Lancaster, his hands clutching the cane, ready to swing it at any given time. "She believes in me. I will set her free,... and send you to hell!" The poet gritted his teeth as he let out a swift hook that successfully connected with Lancaster's face, sending the shocked doctor flying towards the other end of the room.
V's eyes widened with disbelief, then looked at the bony fist that sent the doctor reeling on the ground. He, a weak Devil Hunter whose strength could never compare to the likes of both Dante and Nero, actually brought an insanely powerful maniac down to his knees!
"YES! BEAT HIM TO A BLOODY PULP, V!" Roman howled and cheered behind him as the familiars finally broke free of their stalemate state. And as Roman, Griffon, and Shadow witnessed the awesome fight that V was giving the bewildered doctor, they could not help but feel hopeful and alive once more.
But, their celebration was short lived as the doctor kicked V in the legs, making the poet fall on the ground.
"COME ON, V! YOU CAN DO IT!"
V struggled to get on his feet but, the doctor just wouldn't let him. Tackling him and bringing his face to the floor, the doctor snatched V's cane and held it up above his head. "YOU, ANNOYING INSECT! HOW DARE YOU?! I SHOULD NOT HAVE LET YOU LIVE! I SHOULD - !"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever!"
All the occupants of the room, the combatants included, looked at the door to see Nico, swatted in bandages in many parts of her body, sucking at her cigar and blowing smoke like nobody's business. She looked down at V and Lancaster and showed a very mischievous smirk.
"Aww, have y'all forgotten 'bout me?" She taunted. "Whatever." She took out her radio and held it up, her finger close to the red emergency button. "May I present to ya,... NERO'S SHOWER CONCERT,... VOLUME TWO!"
And with just one push of the accursed button, the whole house was filled with the young Devil Hunter's obnoxious voice. Nico,... actually connected all the speakers on the ground floor, letting her play Nero's awful singing at full and unadulterated blast!
"Ah - ah - ah, ah! Ah - ah - ah, ah! We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun, where the hot springs flow. The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands to fight the horde, and sing and cry. Valhalla, I am coming! On we sweep with threshing oar! Our only goal will be the western shore!"
"What is that God awful voice?!" Avery, who finally woke up due to the eardrum - shattering sound, complained.
"Sweetheart!" Roman exclaimed in happiness as he went to her.
"WHAT FORM OF POWER IS THIS?!" Lancaster howled and writhed in pain as he covered his ears and fell off V, giving the poet ample time to get his cane back. And during this moment of complete vulnerability, V was able to feel a strange power coming from the doctor's chest. The poet went down and started ransacking his vest, and right there, he found Lancaster's pocket watch. V could feel some form of massive energy from it. "GIVE IT TO ME! GIVE IT,... BACK!"
This is it! "Keep this safe!" V turned towards Roman and threw the antique to him. The man caught this at the same time he felt something cold grab his ankle. He looked down and was horrified to see the doctor starting to actually rot. He was finally losing his power!
(Y/N) was right all along! A puppet like Lancaster,... has no power against the one who believes in hope! Bedlam,... has no power over me!
"You,... can't defeat me!" Lancaster moaned as he twitched and trembled. "Bedlam,... chose me!"
"You're wrong." V answered as he kicked the doctor, the mere contact making Lancaster howl in agony. "No one chose you!" V stepped on the evil doctor's shoulder, the contact actually burning Lancaster's clothes and searing the flesh beneath it. The poet could feel tremendous power burning his insides, and it has given him absolute control over the evil energy that enslaved the mansion for a very long time. It gave him more than enough strength to defeat Lancaster.
And he knew full well,...
... that this tremendous power,...
... came from (Y/N).
He raised the cane, pointing it to the doctor's chest.
"NO! PLEASE! I BEG YOU! DO NOT KILL ME! PLEASE!"
"The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. You never know what is enough until you know what is more than enough."
"NO! NO! HAVE MERCY ON ME!"
"I will not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, 'till we have built Jerusalem, in England’s green and pleasant land."
And after one last look at the eye of the man who made many people suffer, he brought down his cane,...

"So, this is it, huh?" Roman asked an hour later as he looked at the golden pocket watch in his hands.
"I believe it is the item that we seek, yes." V answered as he allowed Griffon to perch on his shoulder and watched Shadow trot proudly next to him.
"What are you two talking about?" Avery asked as she let Nico assist her as they walked.
"I think I have an idea." Nico smiled at the gentlemen, especially at V, who successfully defeated the evil in the mansion.
V smiled and nodded at Roman. "I will let you do the honors. Open it."
Roman raised an eyebrow and shrugged his shoulders. Still, with both hands, he carefully opened the pocket watch and,...
"Oh, my God!" Avery whispered as she pointed at something in front them. All of them looked and saw the blonde maid smiling and waving at them. "Who,... is that?"
"That is Roselle Velez." V answered as he watched the servant wave at something behind them. They turned and saw the little boy named Phineas running past them and meeting Roselle halfway. The woman took the boy's hand and with one final wave, the two finally disintegrated right before their very own eyes.
"That's Daniella!" Nico practically shrieked as she pointed at another specter from one corner of the hall. "She tried to save me that night but, yeah. Bitchy evil doctor happened."
V turned to the other end of the hall and saw Maria, the loyal housekeeper, emerging from the kitchen. And right before his very eyes, she glowed and morphed into her original form - of the loyal maidservant who served (Y/N) and never left her side.
It seemed that Maria's mission,... was finally fulfilled. And she has faithfully kept her promise,... of waiting for V to arrive after more than a hundred years and helping him defeat the evil Christopher Lancaster.
And with smiles on their faces, Daniella and Maria met, finally going hand in hand to that promised place that Roselle and the boy just went to.
After a while, after seemingly a long period of silence, V felt something strange come out of his body. And as it walked away from the him, Roman, Nico, Avery, Griffon, and even Shadow stared in disbelief. It was none other than the English poet, Victor Blake, himself. His body seemed to glow with a powerful force that casted the shadows of the mansion away. V watched in awe as the man made his way towards something he could not quite see, and when Victor stopped walking, they saw a group of orbs materializing out of thin air. These little orbs of light danced, and when they finally merged into one, they slowly morphed into the one person V wanted to see.
It was (Y/N) (L/N), herself. And she looked perfect. Simply perfect.
When the lovers finally met, their hearts twitched in pain as they saw the lady weep and run towards her lover's open arms. And when Victor embraced her, his tears of joy falling freely from his eyes for finally seeing the love of his life after many, many years, they can't help but shed some tears of their own.
And V? He did not cry. In fact, he was happy. He was happy that they finally got their happy ending. And before they went away, the lovers looked at V and smiled at him.
Thank you! (Y/N) mouthed her gratitude as she pointed at V's pocket.
And then, as V felt for the thing in his pocket, the thing she put a few hours earlier, the lovers finally vanished into the night,... into sweet delight.

A Short Nier: Automata Crossover Snippet
Some superhero crossover ideas I’ve seen recently reminded me of something I'd been tossing around. Mostly as the attempt to write something generally humorous and just fun for a change but also involving Superheroes. And I mean quite a bit more lighthearted than most anything else I've taken a swing at. (That and the recent Scooby Doo crossovers last year reminded me of this show.)
Nier: Automata/Batman: Brave and the Bold
Things were about as bad as they could get. Or so she had thought.
"At last," Brainiac, that evil testament to the technological prowess of Colu and the Computer Tyrants thereof, shouted loudly. "With this last component my trans-spatial booster is now complete. No longer will I need to painstakingly hack individual systems one at a time. Through this device I could take control of every piece of technology on an entire planet. From the simplest kitchen appliance to even crude automata such as yourselves."
White would have been more insulted, but after the last four months of captivity on her own station she'd grown rather used to the constant rain of abuse the green skinned alien robot levied against any and all he saw as inferior. Though she at least didn't have to suffer alone.
A pair of apparently younger girls, identical in appearance like those long discontinued twin models, were held in a glass prison much like her own.
"Serves them right for siding with this mad man in return for whatever paltry knowledge he had offered them."
Her hands clenched tight, thinking about how this had only been so easy for mechanical monster before her because of other more personal betrayals. The Terminals had only been able to offer Brainiac information on the Bunker's backdoor and the opening it gave to the rest of the Android networks because those security weak points had been pre-installed. Though it did give her some small satisfaction to see them as they now were, their once impossibly vast and amorphous meta-data entities forced into material shells by some strange whim of Earth's new master.
All she could figure is that he must have liked collecting things. That alone didn't shock her as much. Her old partner in the Resistance had had her odd interests after all, much like some YoRHa members had with mechanical fish.
"I can only hope she's still alive. Along with all the rest."
After Brainiac had shut down the Army of Humanity's defenses he'd sequestered the higher consciousness of the machine networks and taken over all the machines that hadn't yet disconnected once they realized what was happening. She knew many had survived his take over, but with the advanced alien technology he had to equip them with it hardly mattered. Within weeks newly operational Brainiac Battlebots built to his specifications were enforcing his will across both light and dark sides of the Earth.
The now enslaved Androids and Machines forced to work side by side with their millennia long enemies under the watchful gaze of Brainiac's forces and their over-sized plasma cannons. Though it looked like whatever he had had them gathering materials for was now complete.
Which probably wasn't a good thing.
"You have completed your work here Brainiac," the Terminals said, voices synced together. "Given your previous statements of intent on acquiring advanced technology I fail to see what you gain by remaining here."
"Unfortunately for you the value of the knowledge I possess is inversely related to how many others know it as well. This will sadly require your... elimination." Brainiac's smile clearly should how false any sympathy his words might have implied really was. "But do not despair. Your world will have the honor of serving as the first test of my new weapon."
"But why?" White asked. "You've already acquired everything from our data servers."
"I may have read them yes. But this device can also be used to write."
"No... he can't mean-"
Brainiac had already turned back towards the enormous console that dominated the control room. Pulling levers as a low whine began to build, the draw from the stations fusion reactors growing greater as it prepared to activate. "Yes, as I'm sure you've realized by now your world presents a perfect opportunity for this device to be used for this purpose. In mere minutes every computer system will be overwritten with my own programming. Granting me an army of drones ready to conquer new worlds for the glory of Brainiac!"
She looked to her side and saw a similar expression of horror on the faces of the Terminal twins. The dawning dread that came upon them as the realized that they and all on the world below them would become pale copies of this insane alien tyrant in his demented quest to consume all knowledge in the cosmos.
The seconds ticked away as the time before their annihilation and 'replacement' narrowed to a razor's edge. All hope seemed lost as he flipped the final switch.
Only for a reprieve from oblivion to impact in the form of an explosive bolt detonating the computer console in a shower of sparks and metal shrapnel.
The cloud of smoke and debris had only only just begun to disperse when Brianiac screamed out in rage. "Who dares interfere with my experiment? Which of you misguided scrap heaps from the ruined world below would court death by challenging I, the most advanced synthetic life form in the universe?!"
His response was another explosive projectile, this one impacting against a shield of green energy he summoned before his body. Up above, the source could be discerned in the glare of the red emergency lights that had come on. A solitary figure perched on the walkway above.
"Is this all? I shouldn't be surprised that so few of you would embrace such futility. But I would have thought even beings of your limited intellect would recognize how futile such a limited force would be."
"Damn, you do like to hear yourself talk don't you?" The interloper had a woman's voice and a rough tone to it. White could almost swear it sounded vaguely familiar.
Such thoughts were pushed aside as Brainiac extended a battery of tentacles from his back, issuing forth a barrage of green energy blasts to rain down on the target of his fury. They began running to the left, their form obscured by the fire retardant gases now being pumped out. With a great leap the jumped from the upper walkway down to the floor before, rolling into a ready stance with their weapon aimed towards the alien robot. Some sort of improvised crossbow by the looks of it, an odd if not utterly unknown weapon to use.
Though the outfit was the more shocking element. Their head and hair covered by a red cloak, and from the shadows that obscured their face she could see that a matching mask lay under it over their eyes. Aside from that it looked like they'd cobbled together a little of any and every weapon they could find. A bandoleer of more explosives on their chest, a damaged pod system carried on one side and satchel on the other.
The lack of melee weapons made it likely they weren't one of YoRHa coming to rescue her. Not that that didn't surprise her. Brainiac had saw no reason not to reveal the fate of Humanity to his new slaves during one of his many gloating monologues about the poor inferior creations he had come to grant new purpose to.
While she didn't know the identity of their rescuer, Brainiac did not seem to share that problem. "Now I recognize you. You're that irritant that's been bombing my construction sites recently? The self-styled Android Avenger going by the messages you choose to etch into my drones after you destroyed them? Ha, I shouldn't be surprised that automatons built to be so...human would express such contemptible patterns of behavior when placed under the right amount of stress."
"You got that right. I've been under a lot of stress since you came here and started screwing things up." They stepped slowly to the side, though for what purpose White could not tell. They were caught out in the open and it was clear that Brainiac's weapons and defense were far superior to what they had. Which made the cocky smile they now had all the more surprising. "But then that's why I didn't come here alone."
A sextet of projectiles impacted then. Smaller explosions that did even less damage as Brainiac lifted his arms to block them. But clearly further enraging him as he turned to face the newest intruder.
Only to take a step back at whatever he saw.
"I-Impossible!"
"You're technological tyranny is at an end Brainiac! There's cell waiting for you on Oa after we shut you down for good."
"Batman! How could you possibly follow me here?!"
"You must have had even more screws loose when you reassembled your new body if you think I would let you pilfer and plague another dimension." This one glided down from even further above, having entered through a maintenance duct, landing opposite the android from before. A more professional costume, though the lack of clear armament disturbed her. Whoever this Batmannwas, they didn't seem to be prepared at all. "Surrender now and maybe you'll get off in two or three millennia for good behavior."
The tendrils moved, taking aim at both of them. "I think I will have to decline your offer. But once I've had my revenge on the Kryptonian and put your Gotham into my collection I'll be sure to stop by there. The destruction of the Green Lanterns will be quite easily done with my new weapon."
Another barrage of batarangs, these stopped by Brainiac's shield. Suspended in the air. "I assumed as much. Criminals like you never come quietly."
Before White could quite wrap her mind around the idea that a world conquering AI was being referred to as something as pedestrian as a criminal, Brainiac spoke. "I'm well aware of your tricks Batman. These batarangs would administer a concentrated shock, likely to allow your ally to damage me when my shields go down. A easily seen ploy."
The batarangs did indeed activate into a shower of sparks. Quickly arching not just onto the shield but through it. Brainiac crying out in alarm as he reeled back. Then in even greater pain as the explosive bolts struck his back, shredding the energy firing tentacles off.
"I expected as much Brainiac, which was why I first detonated particulate silver into the air around you."
"Hey, could you stop showing off how clever you are and stick to the plan?" Android Avenger shouted above the chaos, already reloading their weapon.
"Of course. No time for lengthy banter when the fate of the world is at stake," Batman said, rushing forward and landing upper cut that sent the still stumbling tyrant into the air and was accompanied by the sound of thunder. "My Nth metal shock bracers should wear you down in time."
The rising hope that had begun to fill White was quickly dashed as Brainiac caught Batman's hands in his own. "Or it would if I had not further upgraded my body since our last conflict. You should have stayed on your Earth Batman. At the very least you could have spent your last moments with your fellow humans instead of dying here to protect the freedom of so many aimless machines."
"He's human?!"
"That's where you're wrong Brainiac. Human, alien, or even android; freedom is the right of all sapient beings and my responsibility as a hero to protect it. Besides," Batman said as he jumped up and planted his feet on Brainiac's chest, "I already knew the Nth metal wouldn't work."
Whatever else Brainiac might have said was lost in the roar of light and sound that followed. White having to look away less her optic sensors burn out as the intensity grew ever greater.
When it at last dimmed, Brainiac lay there motionless. A half meter hole burned through his chest while the Android Avenger let a smoking (and now slightly melting) energy rifle fall from her grip.
Batman reached down, depressing a button on Brainiac's head and pulling a small triangular chip out before sliding it into a specialized compartment on his utility belt. "And that will hold you until I can get in contact with Hal Jordan. Or Guy Gardner..."
"Did you really believe it would be that easy Batman?"
This time the voice came from all around them, the systems of the station itself speaking in the mad Ai's voice.
"Of course. Even if they've secured the hardcopy of his consciousness data he'd likely have backup on the local server synced up with it."
They've done next to nothing, as the machine began to charge up again, preparing for it's lethal blast to all Machine and Android life.
"Of course not Brainiac. I knew a mind as twisted and evil as yours would always have some last plan for Pyrrhic victory."
"There will be nothing Pyrrhic after I rewrite the minds of your ally and all the others to be copies of my own."
Batman moved quickly, burning through access panel on the colossal contraption of evil and revealing intricate circuitry therein.
"Android Avenger, do you have neodymium coupler?"
"Yes just give me a-shit, I think I burned my hands," she said, running over to Batman and handing him the part he'd asked for. "Wouldn't it be easier to just blow this thing to hell?"
"Unfortunately not. It's already built up enough charge to effect everyone here and would likely go off during the explosion. So," he reached in welding some small device from his utility belt inside along with the part he'd asked for, "I've created an alternative solution."
"Your compassion for this creations has only doomed this entire world and yourself Batman. The signal booster is already charged! I will savor watching your demise at my new army."
It did indeed trigger, a pulse of static and EMP that dropped White to her knees, prepared for the inevitable.
And then nothing.
Actually nothing at all.
"What?! The device worked perfectly? Why do I not have control over anything?"
"I rewired your booster to send most of the signal into a parallel universe with modified transpatial oscillator. The remainder would have still reformated any memory system to a blank slate... except I took a detour and wired your signal through the laser communications hub you were using to send orders down to the surface."
"Did you hear that you jerk? You just wiped the systems for all the drones you'd built!"
"I will not tolerate this! I will not accept this!"
*Reactor malfunction, please evacuate.*
With the clear signs of Brainiac's self-destruct coming, their rescuers wasted no time. Rushing over to the prisons and swiftly blasting an opening in both. White wasn't sure how to feel about the supposed human rescuing the once leaders of the Machine Network, but she didn't have much time to think about it. Her own departure was swift, panicked, and ended with her being held tightly against a modified flight unit that someone had painted red and black as they plummeted through the Earth's atmosphere. The Bunker detonating behind them.
Their arrival on the surface came with a celebration, numerous Androids from both the resistance and YoRHa among their number. And even Machines as well, all welcoming the return of the heroes that they'd known to be attacking Brainiac before he could complete his scheme.
"Are you alright White?"
That brought her attention back to the one closest to her, the so-called Android Avenger. Who...
"Jackass?"
"Yeah, well after that alien jerk showed up I sort of went underground trying to come up with a plan to rescue you. And I-"
"You got the idea for this from those human comic books you used to read, didn't you?"
"Hey! It worked, didn't it?"
After months of captivity, fear, and no small amount of personal pain as Brainiac quite literally picked her brain until he decided she no longer had anything useful to give him, White didn't feel like arguing. If Jackass's unconventional plan had saved her life, all their lives, she would accept that.
Of course acceptance mere acceptance wasn't the reason she decided to show her gratitude in that moment with an embrace that definitely violated some of YoRHa's policies regarding fraternization.
Kissing wasn't specified of course, but certainly violated the spirit of the rules. Not that she'd ever really bothered to enforce those in general.
"Ah-hem."
She turned to see Batman standing there, the Terminals at his side.
"We have decided in light of the possibility of another alien or extra-dimensional aggressor like Brainiac that the current suspension of hostilities should be extended. Perhaps indefinitely."
White nodded, not sure that she trusted herself to say anything coherent in response to that.
"Once you have established global communications with the other Android forces we would like to negotiate this deal in greater detail. Until then we must leave. The damage Brainiac has done to our systems was substantial and will take some time to repair."
And with that they turned and left. Along with the human, Batman, who had already started making his way towards Android woman wearing glasses nearby.
"Wait! Batman," White said, a hundred if not a thousand questions coming to mind. About him, his world, the monster that had attacked them, about humans; before settling on something that she realized would bother her the most if she didn't get an answer. "The signal Brainiac created, you said you sent most of it to a parallel Earth. Doesn't that just mean he'll take over their technology, whatever it might be?"
"You don't have to worry about that. I sent it to Earth-20-2. Caveman Earth. Their most advanced technology are flint tools."
Before she could ask him anything else he, and the Android with glasses that had come to stand beside him, vanished in brief flash of light and the oddest absence of sound.
***
Bat-Files: Earth 4-65, Far Future Android/Machine Civilization Active Heroes; Alias: Android Avenger, Real Name: Jackass (Note, this is not another alias. Names chosen by individual, likely personal meaning.) Powers: No meta-human abilities, but all Androids are stronger than a normal human. She also possess considerable skills in guerrilla warfare, use of and construction of explosives, as well as the advanced sciences native to her reality. Allegiance/Relationships: Army of Humanity, Android Resistance, centered around Japan (though originally from Australia according to personal history). Close relationship with Commander of Android Special Forces YoRHa. Reliability: Acceptable (more so than Booster Gold certainly), consider proposing for probationary membership within JL Temporal/Extra-Dimensional division.
***
( I modeled the general idea after the intro shorts on Brave and the Bold. Where Batman would team up with characters that make rather little sense on the whole. Why is Batman storming the beaches of Normandy with GI Robot, flying around in space with Space Ghost, or saving President Lincoln from assassination at the mechanical hands of a robotic John Wilkes Booth?
He just is.
As for this scenario, I thought the funniest idea would be to have Jackass take the role of native 'hero' for him to team up with. Partially from some earlier yet unfinished humorous stuff I had about her liking old world comic books.)

I'm just gonna say, the drugs thing is not necessarily true. I've been out of high school for a couple years and never had any trouble, even though literally every one of my friends got suspended at least three times for bringing weed onto campus. You can be friends with people who are into drugs.
Also, additional: people who pressure you to do drugs or alcohol are not good friends. They do not respect your boundaries. They may think it's fun or whatever, but that's not the kind of environment you need to be putting yourself in, especially with regards to illegal substances. If you want to fool around with substances, be safe and do it only with a trusted friend; if you don't want to, do not let anyone change your mind in the moment, and cut them off if they won't take no for an answer.
(This goes for everything. If you want to make a decision on something big, like sex, drugs, potential classes, anything, you should practice responsible decision making habits by considering the issue later and weighing the pros and cons. Making snap decisions to try alcohol or weed in the moment doesn't go well, but if you really want to, and you decide you really want to and stick with it even outside a charged situation, it's worth a go. Make sure you're safe about it, though, and if you can please tell a trusted adult or older friend in case things get weird and you need a ride home. Definitely do not drive yourself home impaired. And this advice also goes for: parties, different classes your friends want you to take to be with them, colleges you apply to, any afterschool curriculars you're not already jazzed for, boys, girls, enbies, shopping trips, literally anything. Don't take it lying down when people try to push you into shit.)
Do your homework. This is already up there, but it's also a personal thing I learned too late, and I know some of you are probably going "eh, nah. It's fine." I didn't do a scrap of homework in high school. My graduating average was a 95%; I was a good enough student to scrape by and at the end of every semester hand in like half to make up my points. This does not work once you're in college. College is like 90% graded on homework. I failed my first semester incredibly miserably because I didn't have the habits in place to get my homework in on time or finished to the right specifications. All my AP classes were 99% test based, and I passed those with 98-100 grades; my highest college grade in my first semester was a 70. And the rest of the grades I got were in the low 20s to 30s range. If you don't want to do your homework, I feel you, but please make an effort to save yourself future trouble. Or don't, but if you're an overachiever like me it'll probably matter to you to get decent grades.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP IF YOU CAN.
Don't give a shit about drama, if you can. Avoid it when it comes up, try not to gossip, and there's- okay so in judaism there's the concept of "lashon hara", evil tongue. This is for gossip that hurts people's reputations. It can be true, but if it isn't nice and it's not something that's going to protect someone else, you should not say it. I highly recommend sticking by this. If word is going around that someone is a predator, okay. If word is going around that someone is a weirdo who sleeps with plushies and meows at people... who gives a shit. Not your problem, not your business. That rumor should end with you. Don't spread it. People will be able to tell that you don't gossip, and you will become trustworthy. And it never hurts to be the person not helping ice the weird or the gay or the neurodivergent kids out of social life just because they're "weird"
Keep at least fifteen dollars in physical money in your backpack at all times in case of emergencies. Even if you have a debit card or a phone you can pay with. You may run out of batteries or have your card declined when you need it, and also like... you are a kid. If you're hungry and you're short a couple dollars during lunch and you're like "all i have is fifteen dollars" most people will feel bad turning you away, especially if you're respectful. Or, if it's summer and you're buying a drink, or if you're a girl buying pads/tampons, or buying milk because your parents asked you to pick it up- it's all about the sad eyes. For some reason this doesn't work nearly as well with a credit card. Speaking from experience again.
Be kind, courteous, and respectful to the security guards, cashiers, lunch ladies, and janitors at all times. These are the people who will help you the most when you need it, in my experience. If you have a particular hangout spot, this 1000% goes for there, too, and if it's a restaurant or place you can tip, tip with your spare change if you can as often as you can afford to. Especially if your parents suck and you need to be able to stay out of the house. I used to go to a local starbucks and play on my computer after school and they'd let me stay after closing sometimes when my mom was being especially shitty. They would not have done that if I didn't always make an effort to be kind, courteous, and respectful even when I was in a bad mood or tired or drained.
It's good to be kind, courteous, and respectful to everyone. Some people do not deserve your kindness, your courtesy, or your respect, however. If someone treats you poorly treat them in kind. Do not be the "bigger person" if that means shouldering abuse. Eight times out of ten, flipping from courteous to nasty and vicious on a dime scares the shit out of people and they'll back off. This does not, unfortunately, work on teachers but it works like a charm on your peers.
Don't be friends with nazis or extremists who espouse racist, sexist, islamophobic, antisemitic or homophobic beliefs. You can try to talk people on the milder end out of it, but you are not going to talk down a proudly identified junior national socialist. Do not try. Warn your friends about them. Warn the school even though they probably won't do anything about it. This is not gossip; this is a safety issue. I wish someone had warned me when I was making friends with someone who would later turn out to be a nazi. Some of your friends will be in danger from these people. Don't wait around to find out.
Be careful driving. this goes without saying. But also be careful who you let drive you around. Teenagers get into accidents all the time, but some of your friends will be more reliably safe drivers than others. And don't sweat it too much if you're scared of driving or have trouble with it. I know plenty of people who got their drivers' licenses late, and I still haven't gotten mine yet. It's inconvenient, but it's not the end of the world.
If one of your friends makes up utterly wild, dramatic allegations about another friend, it is good to consider that they might be false, because they might. But if multiple people have the same story about the friend, even if they're really dramatic, and the people with these stories don't get along, your friend might actually be really dangerous. Case in point: the friend I learned this lesson about regularly went to people's houses and took pictures of them sleeping. That sounded fake as hell. It wasn't.
Eat vegetables sometimes, even if they're gross. Cooked vegetables in fast food meals absolutely do count. Don't live off one food exclusively for a year or two, it isn't good for you. Learned that one the hard way too.
any tips on surviving high school?
don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t go to for advice
do your best to actually do your homework, but if you can’t, remember that it’s better to do a half-assed job than to do none of it
dont just avoid drugs and alcohol, avoid people who use drugs/alcohol. if you get busted, you’ll be guilty by association.
even if you’re amab, carry pads+tampons in your bag at all times. you never know when someone might need one.
please i am BEGGING YOU to eat breakfast as often as possible ok if you don’t you’ll feel like shit
coffee does not count as breakfast. it can go with breakfast, but it does not replace it.
always have a pen+notebook/journal on you (doodling, writing things down, etc)
smile at your teachers! you don’t even have to talk to them, just try to appear kind and engaged, they will automatically like you more (assuming they’re a nice person. if they’re a dick, do it anyway to annoy them)
compliment people behind their back. just trust me.
if anyone has anything do add, please do so!
#these are all things i would've ignored if someone told me to be fair#so i dont expect it to do much good#but they're also all things i would've been better off knowing as a teenager#i mean aside from the nazi thing. that wasn't my fault#he was very nice and normal until he started talking about how badly he wanted to do hate crimes on jews and expected me to agree#and i was just like UH. hey did you know i have a pocketknife! hey look at that it's open now! goodbye!#THAT IS A BAD IDEA BY THE WAY. DO NOT BE ME. DO NOT THREATEN PEOPLE WITH KNIVES ON SCHOOL GROUNDS#MY CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS WERE BAAAAAAAAAD DO NOT BE LIKE ME#it's a fucking miracle i never got caught

[Sf] let's go
PROLOGUE I don't know how it happened. Only that it was a slow process. First the weak, the young and old, the Ill and poor. They were the first to show signs. They slept more and more which wasn't that noticeable because they sleep all the time anyway. However we noticed the problem when they stopped waking up. Then the average people and even the well off started sleeping. This went on for the next six months. No one could figure out how to wake them up or to stop people from falling asleep. At the end of the first year all the people who were still awake moved everyone else to a central city. The sleepers were put in pods that kept them alive providing them with nutrients and other basic needs. The pods monitored them and recorded data in hopes of finding some answers. Every one else was also give a pod in preparation for the worst. Luckily the city runs itself so all we had to do was research and by the end the computers were doing that too. By the end of the second year I was the only one awake. Which I question every day. Why me? Of the millions in the pods why am I awake? CHAPTER 1 : AWAKE I started recording this as a precaution, in the case that I do become a sleeper or if someone wakes up I can fill them in on what happened. This camera is powered by solar panels with a backup plasma battery so I never really need to worry about it dying. ..... Dying that's something that you forget about when you have an entire world that just fell asleep. For two years now I haven't thought about death. Sleeping seemed so much more likely. The fear of going to sleep and not waking up. The ever present possibility of a necessity becoming a prison. That seems more real. Every day I do the same thing. I wake up it gets a little later daily, two years ago I woke up at nine am, a year later it was ten today eleven. After awake up I check the pods, I know the alarm will sound if anything happens. High pitched if a system failed. Low pitched if someone wakes, but I check away. Then I eat, the auto farm produces enough to feed everyone but I carbon freeze the rest for reserves. After breakfast I play pokemon go. It's dumb but it passes the time I carry two phones and play against myself, valor verses mystic, I take the gyms and hit the pokestops one day and the next I switch to the other phone. I helps me feel like it's the good old days. Not to mention it helps me stay active. I come back for lunch around two and after lunch I conduct my research. I'm not a scientist but you pick up a few things when there are ten people awake in the world and the other nine are fading fast so I learned everything I could and now I do the research while they sleep. Five o'clock is quitting time I eat dinner and shower then bed by seven. Then repeat over and over. When I'm lying in my bunk trying to sleep but being too afraid to let it happen, I often think of the days before. They seem like a dream now so surreal that it couldn't be the truth. That life had to be nothing more that a dream. CHAPTER 2 : DREAM I was a handyman before. Nothing special, not a man of science or a politician. Just someone to call when you needed a carpenter or a plumber. My dad always said that's something that will always be needed. They may have computers for everything else but they can't duplicate the human touch. The craftsmanship. So I followed his words. I served in the army first though. The draft for the war with Russia had just kicked off when I turned eighteen and sure enough three months later I was at Fort Benning, Georgia for basic training and infantry school. I served two tours in Siberia as forward forces against the attack on Alaska. When the sleep started taking people I thought it was the Russians attempting some kind of biological attack. But when most of Russia fell asleep I knew I must be wrong. I'd give anything to be back on that battlefield now. At least then I had allies around me and a clear objective. Now the gun shots are silent, the battle cries are only echoes in my head and the died are only sleeping. So it's my job to them wake up. I've had to become a scientist and put down my hammer spending hours researching book after book to find an answer that's never been found. Now instead of fighting with a rifle my fight is one of the mind. CHAPTER 3 : MIND I've been completely alone for about two months now. I have a routine which makes me feel safe. However I can feel my mind slipping. Talking to sleepers, talking to myself, Talking to walls. Desperate for something to talk back. To help me focus I've begun to play my recording back each night. Not to mention pokemon go actually really helps. I pretend that the other phone is someone else and I'll look at some of the other phones, if they have it I use them too. As a "guest appearance". CHAPTER 4 : APPEARANCE There is a lure! A pokemon lure! I didn't place it but it's there. I opened the app and there it was twenty five minutes left on a pokestop maybe 7 miles away. Someone else is here. Not me and not a sleeper but another person who is awake! They know I'm here and that I play pokemon go. So they've probably been watching me for some time now. Do I go to it and see what they want? Do I start building defenses and prepare for them to attack? If I get captured or killed there will be no one to protect the sleepers but this lure could be an olive branch and I have been extremely lonely. That settles it I'll go. I am taking a rifle and sidearm though, just in case. *The man moves out of view as he turns the camera around and straps it to his helmet* let's go see if it's friend or foe. CHAPTER 5: FRIEND OR FOE *The man rides his bike check the phone every few minutes to make sure he's heading the right way, once he gets close he drops his bike. He pulls up his rifle and starts moving forward, slowly moving his head back and forth between buildings scanning for danger* OKAY I'M HERE! What do you want? *A second voice answers from the shadows *"I'll answer with another question. What do you want?" I want to know who you are and why you've been watching me. "Is that all you want? How boring." Answer me and show yourself. " I am the reason your friends are asleep and I have been watching to understand why you are not yet asleep. I wanted to place the 'lure' to see how you would react. I will answer nothing else at this time. Goodbye" wait! I have more questions. *silence* Damn, what the hell just happened. *biking back as fast as he can the man arrives to the pods and does his checks* no harm has come to the pods so why draw me out? Was that really the voice of who ever was responsible for all the sleepers. If so how. A virus? A poison? What could it be? And who are they? Most importantly what happens next? CHAPTER 6: NEXT For the last five days I've rode back to the pokestop where the voice was but nothing else has happened. I'm more paranoid than ever now. I've built fortifications all around the area, trip wires that trigger alarms, and pit falls. However if they really have been watching they'll know exactly where to step. Other than to check the stop I don't leave camp. No more casual pokemon go. Who ever that was they definitely have pushed me closer to insanity. CHAPTER 7: INSANITY Its been a month since the event. A week since I checked the site. I have been hearing voices from the pods. The sleepers I think they are trying to tell me something. .... maybe if I close my eyes I can focus on the words. Yes I hear them. They know the secrets. They say they'll tell me. *the man sits quietly for a few minutes eyes closed face still. He then falls forward dropping the camera. As he lays there asleep foot steps are hear from behind the camera.* "finally the last one falls"

These truly wireless earbuds are the workout accessory I didn't know I needed
The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.
Jaybird
Jaybird RUN Bluetooth earbuds are truly wireless earbuds built for an active lifestyle.
They're sweatproof, dirtproof, and made by Jaybird, a company that enjoys a cult following for its well-made headphones sold at accessible prices.
I got a chance to try a pair out, and it's quickly become one of the best-value buys I could have made. The sound isolation and volume exceeded my expectations, the buds don't slip out of my ears, and I never had a problem with battery life.
I love running, but I’ve got some particular stipulations about what makes it enjoyable and what makes it feel like the interminable annual “mile-run” my elementary school put on during gym class.
The more “in the zone” and close to auto-pilot I am, the more enjoyable. The more aware I am about each instant and footfall, the less enjoyable; things like a phone bouncing around in a too-loose pocket, wires getting tangled around my arms, and the inability to tune out the patternless footfalls of people around me are a few of the things that turn running into a chore. When I have the right gear, I run every day. When I don’t, I can’t force myself exercise half as much as I would on a normal day.
So I’ve become a pretty devoted researcher of running gear — and to-date, my favorite workout upgrade has been the Jaybird RUN earbuds. The company sent me a pair to test, and they've exceeded my expectations from the beginning.
They’re tiny, completely wireless, have a long battery life, don’t slip out of your ear even during rigorous workouts, and best of all, they isolate sound wonderfully.
They’re a must-have for my workouts, but their conveniently tiny size means I've started using them more and more for other things as well. I wear the buds during my walks to and from work because they fit in my jacket pocket, and have stowed them away in a clutch purse to wear on the cab ride back after a night out.
I even took them on a plane ride recently because I didn’t want to take up space (or risk damaging) my Marshall on-ear headphones. Even under the barrage of in-flight air, they sounded great.
The claims initially seemed too good to be true, (especially for someone as finicky as me), and the reviews I could find online were more mixed than I would have liked, so I didn't expect to love them. But after a month of using the Jaybird RUN earbuds every day, I've found the company's claims to be true.
I thought I'd need to "grow into" them or make concessions on either sound or comfort, but neither has been the case. Even though you'll receive four sets of eartips and fins, I found that the default size fit my ears right out of the box.
When I tested them in my workouts, the earbuds delivered great volume while totally isolating my music from the background noise of a loud gym. And even during vigorous workouts they stayed comfortably lodged in my ears, letting me focus and move about freely. They didn't become slippery or malfunction when I sweat.
In addition to a convenient size, they've also got solid battery life. Jaybird says these headphones will last for 12 hours on a full charge, and recharging them for five minutes in the included charging case will give you an hour of playtime. That's extremely convenient if you forget to charge these earbuds before a workout or flight.
Jaybird
The water resistant coating on these buds means you can push yourself regardless of the weather and the double hydrophobic nano coating protects the not-so-cheap headphones from sweat damage, so you won't be ordering a new pair when yours fail to stand up to your lifestyle.
My only concern with them would be losing them, but the Jaybird App includes a Find My Buds feature to help make that a non-issue.
They’re my go-to exercise earbuds, as well as becoming an increasingly frequent choice for my life outside of the gym. The Jaybird RUN earbuds aren't cheap at $179.99, but at least for how often I use them that cost has been converted to pennies per use. They don’t deliver the same multidimensional sound as my Marshall pair, but I also wouldn't purchase them with the intention that they would.
They make good on their claims and then some, and they aren't exactly meant to replace whatever you use in your downtime. If you want to tune them to your ear specifically, you can go into the Jaybird App and adjust their mids, highs, and lows.
If you want a truly wireless pair that packs great sound isolation, volume, battery life, and convenience into a single package, I really can’t recommend the Jaybird RUN’s enough.
Jaybird RUN True Wireless In-Ear Headphones, available at Best Buy, $179.99

“Help! Mr. Raptoraine? Dad? Someone??? Heeeeeeeeelp!!”
Link pressed against the back of the closet, trying to avoid Zelda's hands as she rattled the door. “It's no use, Grandpa's gonna be out until eight I think, and your dad's not gonna hear us even if he was home.” Zelda groaned, slumping against the door. “You sure you don't have your phone?” she pleaded. Link sighed and shook his head. “Nope, it's in my room, on my desk. Yours?” Zelda held up her very dead phone. “Won't even beep a low battery warning at me... How did this even happen? What deity did you piss off, Link?”
“How is this my fault? You're the one who wanted to see what was in here!” he shot back. Zelda finally turned around to face him. The closet was tiny, with barely enough room to stand next to each other, though thankfully the door was slotted so it at least wasn't too stuffy. That would have been a problem, if they were stuck for the next four hours like they thought they'd be. Link had thought the crawlspace entrance was in here, hence why they were exploring, and somehow they'd gotten locked inside. Zelda claimed that she tripped, although that didn't explain why the door closed. “This closet doesn't even have a lock on it...” he grumbled. Zelda moaned. “We're really gonna be stuck in here until your grandpa gets home, aren't we?” She thumped her head against Link's shoulder, her whole body sagging in frustration. “Can't you like, kick the door down or something?” “...I'm pretty sure Grandpa would kill me for that.” He briefly considered the door, attempting to raise his foot to it. “But, there's not even enough room for me to really kick it, so it's kinda a moot point anyways. We should probably just get comfortable and wait.” Zelda looked up, hoping for a bit of divine inspiration. Unfortunately, just as the entrance to the crawlspace was now a dead end, so too were any ideas. There wasn't even anything in the closet they could attempt to slide through the slots and pick the lock with. Finally she sighed, conceding defeat. Together they slid to the floor, knocking knees and elbowing faces and jostling limbs until they'd arranged themselves into something quasi-comfortable. Link sat with his back to the wall, and Zelda with hers to the door. Their legs were spread so that their folded knees and feet were on either side of the person opposite. Definitely not the most appropriate of ways to sit together, but decidedly less compromising than most of the other positions the tiny space would have allowed. Four and a half hours later, after talking about everything from video games to theories about the shows they were watching to whether or not sharks fell in love to next Monday's homework, they heard the sound of the front door opening. “Link? Son, are you home? John says he can't get a hold of Zelda, are you-” “Grandpa!” “We're up here, help!” they shouted. There were footsteps on the stairs, and soon Link's grandpa had appeared on the other side of the door. “Link? Zelda? You're in here?” “Yes! We've been stuck here for hours, please unlock the door!” Link begged. Quickly the two scrambled to get up, with Zelda accidentally elbowing Link in the gut and Link's legs getting tangled with hers, causing the two to lose balance and crumple to the floor again. “Ow! Zelda watch- eyaaaaah!” “Gah! Link move you're squishing me!” “Wait wait wait stop my leg doesn't bend that way! Ow ow ow ow ow ow...” Richard snorted, trying and failing to contain his mirth. He pulled his phone from his pocket, dialing Zelda's dad's number. “John? Yes, she's here, apparently they got themselves stuck in a closet- Zelda your father's asking why you didn't call earlier,” “Link owowowow you're pulling my hair! Ah, it died right before we got stuck in here, I was gonna go charge it right after we looked, but well...” “Did you hear her? These kids... how are you even stuck, this door doesn't even have a lock on it,” he jiggled the doorknob experimentally. “Hm, the latch must be broken. Link don't you know better than to close a closet door behind you? Wait-” “WHATEVER YOU'RE THINKING THAT'S NOT WHY WE'RE IN A LOCKED CLOSET.” “I should hope not.” “Sir, Link was trying to look at the crawlspace entrance, and I tripped behind him and I think maybe the ribbons on my shirt caught the handle?” “I still think the house is haunted. There's no way our luck is this bad.” Richard chuckled and shook his head, saying goodbye to Zelda's father and heading downstairs to fetch his tools. About thirty minutes later, Richard and John finally managed to get the doorknob off- it looked like the latch had jammed completely- and the two trapped teenagers came tumbling out of their prison. The adults had completely broken down laughing then, calling it an extraordinary case of bad luck and teasing the two for getting themselves trapped in there to begin with. But, as embarrassing as it was, it wasn't all bad. The four went out for pizza, the traitorous doorknob was going to be replaced with a different latch, and Richard informed them that the crawlspace entrance had been moved to the closet in his room some time before he'd bought the house. And as they sat across from each other, blushing in embarrassment, Link thought that if he had to get trapped in a closet all afternoon with someone, he was glad it was Zelda. But they both agreed to never mention this at school on pain of death, because they already knew their classmates would have a field day.
Ghosts that just attack you on sight are boring. The real fun is in ghosts that force you into awkward social situations.
#ooc#song#in short sparky sabotaged the latch#blue and green shoved them in via clever use of magic#and quarters shut them in#the fact that they didn't have working phones and were stuck there for four hours was just a bonus#so really link wasn't far off in saying the house was haunted
