Do you have any royal guards headcanons
Hi! Thank you so much for the ask!
I'm not entirely sure whether you're asking about the Royal Guard as a military system, or the Royal Guard characters, but I'll take the first option (because I have more ideas for it now ×)). And if you want to ask me about any specific character, feel free to! I'll try to come up with some ideas.
I've got a few ideas for the Avaloran Guard system when I was developing my old story for Gabe (with a few new additions and corrections to make it more realistic hopefully), but I think it might be still accurate for the new concept, so here it comes:
1. For the children from the military families, there are the schools with a military focus to prepare them to be the guards from childhood. Along with the basic academic subjects, they also make a big emphasis on the things, which are required for joining the ranks of the guard.
2. During Shuriki's reign, those schools were strictly private as she wanted to choose the potential guards herself and keep an eye on how well they were prepared to serve her eventually.
3. This reformation of the guard system caused the citizens' outrage (especially among the military families, sure thing), however, all the attempts of a rebellion were suppressed, which soon led to the decision of "a quiet rebellion": to create the secret rebel organizations against Shuriki.
4. Although, those organizations were especially strong only first ten years after Shuriki overthrew the previous regime. During the years, they were less and less active and eventually were gone completely until the small rebel groups were formed.
5. Anyway, one of the reasons of weakening of this rebel movement were different points of view of its members. Some people tried to fight Shuriki's regime, because they wanted to return the right to attend the military school for their children, while people, whose children were chosen by Shuriki, wanted to avoid this obligation, because they knew how strict, tough, and even wrong at some points this system became.
6. Anyway, closer to the decline of Shuriki's reign, the small groups that formed decided to choose other ways to achieve justice and to get the opportunity for their children to be the guards. They taught them the right morals and the actual purpose of the Royal Guard, which was encouraging both the older and younger generations to fight against Shuriki and prepare their forces for a future revolution.
7. And if it makes sense, those small groups were the main source of inspiration for people to join Elena when she was freed from the amulet.
8. And just to clarify, the organizations/groups I talk about here are strictly created by people who are connected with military somehow. It's not the same one as Rafa and other citizens were involved in.
The first "wave" (well, if I can call it like that in English) involved the guards who served Raul and Lucia and didn't accept Shuriki's reign (were active first ten years)
The second one had the same structure plus their children who weren't accepted by Shuriki (were active next five years; next three years their power was getting more and more weak because of the inner conflicts, which led to the complete dissolve)
Next fifteen years nothing was happening.
And the last eight years were dedicated to the formation of the new rebel system, which eventually had its big role when Elena returned. It involved the guards who were the part of the Royal Guard, but eventually left and decided to take matters into their own hands to fight against Shuriki, because couldn't accept her politics; plus sons/grandsons of the old members of the rebel organizations.
9. About the school system:
It has a different grade system from the ordinary schools: they start at age eight and end at eighteen (while at the ordinary schools, 6-16 years old those make no sense, but are my headcanons, so don't mind me)
First three grades are no different from the ordinary schools: they're taught the core skills, plus the basic academic subjects, but it's accompanied with a more strict discipline, a bigger amount of physical exercises, and the basic military theoretical stuff (like drills and such, I think)
Soon, their study gets more expanded and specialized as they begin to develop their practical abilities, like swordsmanship, survival, horse riding, archery, and making a first aid (and also, marching, I think?). Also, much attention is paid to the teamwork and leadership tasks to develop the right skills for becoming a commander. Plus, some exercises for developing the strategic skills, because, really, this is super important for any officer.
The last two years are spent at the actual military camp when the young guards are directly involved in the guard life. Plus, they get a specialization, like ground forces, cavalry, etc (honestly, I could never understand why Avaloran army is not divided in any way, so I'm going to change it again, if it makes sense)
Upon completion of the school program, depending on how well they were doing their responsibilities, they officially become the part of the Royal Guard and receive the first officer military rank - lieutenant (well, in their universe, they don't have Second and First Lieutenants, so I'm gonna deny their existence, too)
10. Anyway, nowadays, during Elena's reign, this system has changed a little bit, having gotten more reduced. The military schools still exist, but Elena shortened the education grades by removing two last ones. Now, to get to the Royal Guard, you need to pass the recruitment competition first, and then, during the actual guard serve, you're given a chance to raise your rank.
11. Besides, Elena allowed people from the non-military families to be the part of the Royal Guard, too. They also need to pass the recruitment competition to show their skills, and if that's enough, they join the guard and get a military education during the serve.
12. This is possible in Avalor to get the new rank, avoiding the strict order, for the merits to the kingdom yes, because I literally hate this joke about Gabe becoming a general, jumping through like four ranks. This man has done enough to earn it, so, pls, leave him alone.
13. And also, the Royal Guard has the military orchestra, because it's really an omission that it doesn't in canon and Gabe can play a trumpet
Alright, I thought I had more, but that's it for now! Thank you so much for the ask, even though I actually apologize that I, more likely, got it wrong, and you received something that you didn't ask for ×)
#Ask me anything#Elena of Avalor#Headcanons#Lore or something like that lol#Anyway I'm 100% gonna use this concept for my Gabe fic so if any of these doesn't make sense please let me know and I'll try to correct it#I know not really many people actually read it so forgive me for rambling too much about it ×)#And in general feel free to share your ideas or interact with mine somehow#My knowledge of military is super limited but I really hope it makes sense at least a little bit#By the way some of these ideas were inspired by the chats with Blue so thank you Blue <3

A Night Off
Being the Erwin simp I am, he had to be my first AoT fic. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it :)
Pairing: Erwin SmithxFem!Reader
Word count: 4.8k
Warnings: choking, creampie, super soft ending, little bit of angst at the beginning (tw: death), praising, little bit of size kink (lmk if I missed any warnings !!)
Song Inspo: A Night Off - Drake
Life within the walls was as mundane as life could get. It might've been peaceful, yes. Hell, it was the only life you could be having, but still, you yearned to know more of the world you lived in, as you felt as if there had to be more. The walls and the titans beyond it couldn't be all there was. That just seemed so limited to you, in a world that just had to be vast. Maybe this was simply your thinking because you were a child. Of course the world had to be bigger than what you knew, it's not like you knew much of it anyway. Or maybe there really was more base to what you thought, maybe your fantasies were a reality.
Because you were as fascinated with the world as you were, history was your favorite subject growing up. You sat up a little straighter, clutched your pencil a little harder, listened just a bit more intently whenever the lesson started. A decent amount of the things you were taught made sense to you. However, something about the prospect of the walls being all that was left of humanity, that there was simply nothing but thousands, maybe even millions of titans outside just waiting to devour you and nothing else, just didn't sit right. It seemed so oddly far fetched, and you couldn't put your finger on why it felt that way. Apparently you weren't the only one who was feeling unsettled by this.
A small boy raised his hand, you recognized him as the teacher's kid; Erwin Smith. There was a look of pure curiosity in his eyes as he questioned his father, you could tell he was having the same feelings you were.
“If we lost all records of what the outside world was like, how do we know we’re the only ones left?”
It was odd for you, hearing someone else have the same question you did, something that came to plague your young mind. You wondered what the boy might've been thinking about what was outside.
The teacher, his father, dismissed the question, going on about the lesson. Erwin looked defeated as he sat back down, continuing to take his notes as if nothing happened. His eyes told a different story, though. There was a lot going on in his mind, and at your lunch break you decided to pick his brain.
“So what do you think is outside?” You asked the boy as you went to sit next to him in the schoolyard. Your backs were to the wall, and you both carefully ate your sandwiches as you surveyed all of the other children running about freely. The two of you weren't like them, that was plain enough to see.
“I’m not sure really, but the story my father told just doesn't entirely make sense. Almost as if we’re being led to believe something that isn't true at all. Do you get what I mean?” You nodded your head at the boy’s question, letting out a small sigh.
“My parents have told me that same thing, and it just doesn't really sit right with me. But then again it's what everyone knows, right? So maybe we’re crazy or something.” Erwin laughed lightly at your words, nodding along.
“Yeah, maybe we are. At least I know someone as crazy as me now.”
And from that moment on, you and Erwin became the best of friends. The next day Erwin told you he had something important to tell you during lunch. The two of you sat in the same place you had the day prior, and he divulged to you everything his father had told him. You sat in utter amazement, slowly chewing on your food as the theory was explained.
“So the history that we know is all a lie? The king just wanted to make people easier to control?” Erwin nodded his head intently, a small smile on his face.
“Yeah, so he changed the memory of all his subjects, and altered any historical records to follow suit. That's why we don't know anything about the world beyond the walls, the knowledge has been stolen from us, and it's been so long since then that it's doubtful anyone truly remembers.”
This all made an insurmountable amount of sense to you, and when Erwin decided he wanted to tell your fellow classmates, you agreed to help him spread the information around. That night when you told your family they simply laughed, thinking it was some crazy theory you and Erwin had made up. They thought it was cute and completely dismissed it, but advised against telling too many people about it, just in case it might have caused you any sort of trouble. You thought they were crazy for not believing, but realized you couldn't force them to. You also didn't understand what they meant by getting in trouble through telling people of this theory. That was until the Military Police questioned you and Erwin. You kept your calm and the two of you thoroughly explained what Mr.Smith had told Erwin, and were let on your way. Unfortunately, Mr. Smith didn't come home that night, leaving Erwin orphaned.
You held Erwin’s hand at his father’s funeral, offering all the emotional support you could. Death is usually hard for children to grasp, but the two of you knew that his death wasn't an accident, and that the Military Police berid of him because of his theories on the history of your society and the world beyond it. While Erwin held onto hope that there was justification in his father’s murder, you rightly knew there couldn't be any motive that would make it right.
As you both continued to grow up you and Erwin always had each other’s backs. Where one of you went the other wasn't far behind, and the both of you intended for it to always be that way. You seemed to be the only two people that had any inkling of the truth, and so it was best you two stuck together. You both decided to join the Survey Corps, as it was your best shot at ever being able to find the truth, and get some sort of vengeance for Mr. Smith. It meant a lot to you to be able to go into the outside and find what you knew had to be true, and it meant just as much to Erwin, probably even more.
When Shiganshina district fell and Commander Shadis stepped away from his position, Erwin was appointed his successor. Before he was officially sworn in you got him alone, wanting to know how he was feeling about it all. There was nobody in the world who you were closer to than Erwin, and you knew this was going to be a lot for him to handle.
“So, am I going to have to start calling you Commander now? I am technically older than you, addressing you as my superior will be kind of weird.”
“For you and me both, but if this is the task I’m giving then I'm going to do it, and do it proudly. If they think I’m fit enough to lead the Scouts it's an honor, and it's one I can't give up. Especially if that means I can get closer to the truth. You know I have to do this y/n.” You let out a small sigh, nodding your head. You pulled up a chair beside him, putting an arm around him.
“I know you do, but just know I’m always here. I've been your right hand since we were kids, and you've been mine. That isn't ever changing. We’re gonna find the truth, no matter how many expeditions it takes. I couldn't possibly think of a better person to take orders from than you.”
Since his father had died Erwin didn’t smile much, but in that moment he flashed a big one at you, and it was almost like the two of you were kids again.
The Survey Corps wasn't an easy job in the slightest. A lot of the time you had to watch your comrades die in front of you, while you yourself were just narrowly escaping the jaws of death. Add onto that a growing dislike by the public, and it took quite the thick skin to proudly call yourself a scout. You did so without second thought, especially now that your best friend was the commander. You did get moments of escape, though, and you did get to become really close to the people you worked with. From the day you met Moblit Berner you found him to be quite the endearing person. He seemed almost too soft to be a scout initially, but softness wasn't really an option for him as he was tasked with keeping Section Commander Hange in check.
You and Moblit had developed a bit of a romance within a fairly short period of time. You were attracted to his kindness, how gentle and loyal he was behind the panicky exterior. You had a lot of love for him in your heart, but part of you couldn't lay a finger on why you didn't see longevity with him. It was in no way his fault, at the very least you were sure of that, but you couldn't quite give a clear explanation as to why it was you felt that way. The question plagued you, and it became obvious Moblit was starting to catch on.
“Y/n?” He asked, shaking your arm lightly and breaking you out of your trance. The two of you were in his chambers, just talking as you normally did. Nothing was out of the ordinary, despite you being so uncharacteristically distracted.
“Sorry, sorry I was just really lost in thought. There's a lot going on right now, it's all really overwhelming.”
“Yeah, it is. But I don't think work is why you're feeling so overwhelmed, at least not the whole reason why.” You sighed at Moblit’s words, running a hand through your hair. You weren't exactly sure what to say, it's not like you could explain what you were feeling at all.
“I get it, though. I've been feeling really overwhelmed too, and not just because of work. I don’t really know how else to say this, so I’m just going to come clean. Y/n, I care for you a lot, and I don’t want you to think that I don’t, or that I've been lying to you or anything. It’s just that I’ve come to realize that I actually have really strong feelings for Nifa, and-”
“You...you’re saying that you have feelings for someone else?” You quickly cut him off. You avoided eye contact with him, trying to decipher what you were feeling to the best of your ability.
“I am, and I’m really sorry that’s the case, but I have to be honest with you and with myself.”
The both of you sat in silence for a while, the quiet thick in the air. You still couldn't tell what you were feeling, and you weren't sure you were going to be able to figure it out yourself, either.
“It's okay, Moblit. I’m just glad you were honest with me, I guess. I wish you the best, and I hope Nifa returns your sentiments. You're a really good guy, and she's a really good girl. I hope it all goes well for you two.”
Before Moblit could even reply you left the room, heading straight to Erwin’s without once looking back. Moblit didn't bother to chase you, knowing well that it was better to leave you be to work out your feelings. You didn't waste time knocking on Erwin’s door, simply opening it up and leaning against it as you closed it. He was sat at the small table in the room, writing in a journal by the firelight. He looked up at you in confusion, not at all mad you simply came busting in, though. It was something you did since you were kids, he was completely used to it by that point.
“Moblit just broke up with me.” You said, finally peeling yourself off the door. Erwin stood and walked over to hug you, his much bigger frame engulfing yours as he did his best to comfort you.
“I’m really sorry about that, Y/n. What happened?” He asked as he pulled away, going back to sit and you joining him in the seat opposite his.
“He told me he has feelings for Nifa. I can’t really say I'm surprised, she’s a beautiful girl, has a great personality.”
“It’s not like you don't, you know. Don't sell yourself short.”
“I’m not, I’m not. I guess if I were him I would have feelings for her, too. Especially with how I’ve been lately. I wasn't ever really present with him. Something always just felt off to me, and I couldn't put my finger on what exactly it was.”
Erwin took a moment to think before he responded, closing the journal and putting it aside.
“Were you simply just losing interest in him?” He questioned.
“I dunno, I kinda feel like I wasn't ever really interested in him at all.” You started, letting out a sigh before continuing.
“I feel like...I feel like what I felt for Moblit was almost like I was just...deflecting what I was actually feeling.”
“And what was it that you were actually feeling?” Erwin replied, looking a bit confused as to what you meant.
You looked into his eyes, the same eyes you had gazed upon for countless years now, and in that moment, something clicked in your head. Every moment the two of you had spent together, every time one of you saved the other, every laugh, every smile, every word of support, it all flooded you in an instant. It felt as if the whole world shifted, like nothing ever really made any sort of sense until that very moment. The two of you had been by each other’s side for so long, and you had watched him grow from a bright eyed child to a strong willed man, and in every moment you could think of you had been falling deeper and deeper in love with him.
“That I love you, Erwin. And I guess I kind of always have.”
Your words were simple, concise. Erwin’s gaze turned soft as you spoke, and he moved his chair over to sit in front of you. He took your hand in his, gently running his thumb over your knuckles. Both of your hands were callused and hardened from years of training and fighting, and yet in that moment there was a softness in how he held your hand that you didn't know either of you could even possess at this juncture.
“I’ve been waiting a really long time to hear you say that, Y/n.” Your head, which was down so you could watch how he held your hand, immediately perked up as you heard him speak words you couldn't even believe were real. This time it was you that looked at him in confusion, which melted away as he leaned in and kissed you. You gathered from his words that Erwin had been feeling this same way for a considerable amount of time, yet wasn't sure if he should act on it or not. While part of you wish he would've, you were glad he didn't. This moment was utterly perfect, and even the slightest of differences wouldn't have made it the same.
Erwin pulled you into his lap, kissing you harder now that the gap between your bodies had been bridged. His arms stayed wrapped around your waist, and your hands snaked up into his hair, tangling themselves in his golden strands. For a moment you thought about how this might affect your friendship, but you realized your friendship had always been so much more than just that. This was just the culmination of years of pent up emotion.
Erwin placed kiss after kiss on your jaw, bringing them down to your neck as he softly bit your skin. In an instant you remembered how you complained about how Moblit was too soft with you to Erwin, and it seemed he had learned from the other man’s mistakes. A soft moan escaped your lips as Erwin continued to mark his territory, each kiss and bite making you fall weaker and weaker in his grasp. You began to grind your hips into his, enjoying the friction between the two of you. Erwin stood, moving his arm under your thighs to hold you up, walking over to the bed and carefully laying you down. He loomed over you, illuminated by the moonlight bleeding in from the window on your left, and the candlelight on the right. He looked utterly godly above you, it made you crave even more of him.
He started to quickly unbutton his shirt, and you did the same, needing to lessen the number of layers between your skin. This wasn't the first time you had seen Erwin shirtless, although it wasn't necessarily a common occurrence, and this time it made your cheeks heat up. You simply couldn't believe how beautiful he was. A small smirk pulled up the corner of his lips as he leaned down closer to you, his lips just barley ghosting over yours.
“Like what you see, gorgeous?” He teased, kissing you needily. You chuckled lightly, nodding your head a bit. Erwin was never like this, the playfulness in his tone so different than his usual stoicism. Seeing him like that was enough of a turn on, but the fact his affections were focused on you made it even more attractive.
“More than you’ll ever know.” You replied before kissing him again. He trailed kisses down your neck and onto your chest, once again starting to mark you up. He showed no restraint in how he touched you, and you allowed him free reign over your body. He swiftly removed your bra and left a mess of small hickeys and bruises all over your torso. He took time to take your nipple into his mouth, sucking lightly on the nub as he rolled the opposite one between his fingers. Your fingers scratched at his back, your legs wrapped around his waist to keep him close. Even just this felt euphoric, and it only made you want more, whatever “more” could be.
“May I?” Erwin asked as he tugged lightly on the waistband of your pants. You nodded quickly, and with a smile he undressed you further. Shoes, pants and underwear were discarded onto the floor, and there you were, completely bare in front of him. Erwin took a moment to admire you. Even if you were a soldier, a warrior, in this moment you were as delicate as a flower to him, the most precious rose. You were so small in comparison to him he almost mistook you for fragile, but he knew better than anyone just how strong you actually were, and how much you could take. In a more literal, fighting sense at least. He wanted to make you melt, though, and was certain he knew well how to.
He left kiss after kiss on your inner thighs, making you squirm in anticipation. He held your hips down, halting all movement he didn't approve of. The mere sight of him between your thighs made you so excited, your pussy already dripping without having been touched even once. It was almost embarrassing for you, but it only made Erwin want to devour you even more. He moved your legs to drape over his shoulders, and his hands held onto your thighs as he finally made contact with your core. The lightest touch of his tongue felt like the sweetest sensation, had you been any more deprived of pleasure than you were just that would've been enough to bring you close to the edge, but you were intent on holding out for him.
His lips closed around your clit, sucking lightly as he brought a hand down to your folds, fingers teasing your entrance. With how wet you were they were easily permitted entry, two of Erwin’s digits pushing into you with ease. Your hips circled on his mouth and your hands moved to his hair to push his head closer to you, anything to feel more, anything to bring yourself to the edge of glory and then some. His fingers curled up to brush up on the most sensitive parts of you, the feeling making your back arch and an elongated moan to fall from your lips. You didn’t want to get too loud, as it was getting late and you knew your comrades were probably trying to get some sleep, but you truly couldn’t help yourself, nothing had ever felt as good as this, and you were just getting started.
It didn’t take much more for you to rocket into your first orgasm, your juices coating his fingers. He slowed them down, their pace having been fairly rapid, until you reached the end of your orgasm. He pulled them out slowly, agonizingly so, and licked them clean, taking in your flavor. A smirk curled the side of his mouth, and without a word he was right back between your thighs, lapping up every last drop of you.
“E-Erwin…” You breathlessly pleaded, chest heaving as overstimulation started to poke at your senses. You didn’t even know what you were pleading for. You surely didn’t want him to stop pleasing you, frankly if you could do this for hours on end you would’ve, but you simply couldn’t articulate what it was you wanted. Erwin came up from between your legs, leaning down to place a kiss on your lips as his body once again engulfed yours.
As he pulled away you looked into his eyes, the little skies you came to know so well, and you saw something there you’d never seen before. A mixture of love and lust that darkened their color just a bit. Even the look in his eyes made it quite clear what his intentions with you were, and you had no intention of objecting to whatever was to come.
“Quiet down, baby. Just trust me, I know what I’m doing.”
Erwin quickly undressed himself completely, not wanting to waste any more time. He wanted to be inside you just as badly as you wanted him, maybe even more. If there was anything he needed, it was a night off. A night to indulge himself in pleasures he usually denied, too wrapped up in military life to give anything of that nature a second thought. If there was anyone who was going to get him like this, it was you, the woman he was madly in love with.
For a lot of people, all work and no play made them dull. For Erwin, however, it made him all the more ready to give you absolutely everything.
With a quick thrust he entered you, making your back arch hard as your hands grabbed onto his arms for support. The man was very naturally endowed, and taking only about half of him as you were was still a lot, and he was well aware of that. He wanted to push you, see how much you could actually take. Once you seemed to settle he gave you the rest at a much more manageable pace, a smirk on his lips as he bottomed out.
“Look at that, so you can handle it. Good girl.” He praised, leaning down to place a kiss on your forehead before he started to move. His strokes were slow, but they hit so deep, you felt so full. Just as he had said, he certainly knew what he was doing.
He took you like this for a while, admiring how utterly gorgeous you looked like this. How you squirmed with his every move, how your mouth laid open lazily as you moaned, how your eyes started to glaze over as you gave yourself over to undying pleasure. It was a thing of beauty, slowly ruining you as he was. He brought a hand to wrap around your neck, squeezing softly before picking up the pace of his thrusts. He didn't question if you could take it, he knew you would.
The slight asphyxiation turned the feeling of pleasure up to ten, making your walls clench tighter around Erwin’s length. As he picked up his speed your hands moved to his back, your nails lightly marking up his skin. Your body jolted upward with how he pounded into you, it was utterly relentless. You moved one of your hands to rub your clit, another orgasm ready to take you over. You quickly hooked your legs around his waist, letting him in even deeper, and a couple thrusts as this new angle sent you into your second orgasm.
You were getting pretty loud, and as much as Erwin loved all the pretty little noises you were making, he knew it was probably better to quiet you down some. He let go of your throat and pulled out, flipping you onto your stomach. Your cheek came clad to the pillow below you, and you felt your hips being pushed up into the air. Erwin had to stop for a second to admire this display, the way your pussy gleamed with your essence, it was intoxicating.
“Keep it quiet. Don't give me a reason to punish you, angel.” His words were both orders and a warning, and you were in your right mind to obey. You nodded your head just as he pushed into you once again, and you let a long moan out into the pillow beneath you.
His hands gripped hard onto your hips, and once again he moved at a pace that let you know his lust was borderline insatiable. You moved your hips in time with his, the sound of skin to skin contact filling the room. Erwin let out low grunts from between his lips, and in harmony with your muffled moans a symphony of the utmost carnal desires was being played. Every instrument, your bodies, perfectly in tune.
As strong as you were, you felt so weak, your legs about ready to give out with how bad they were shaking. If it weren’t for Erwin holding you up you certainly would’ve toppled to the bed by now, but you were trying your hardest to hold your own. You wanted, nay, needed to take him. To take everything he gave you, and more if possible.
Moan after moan spilled helplessly onto the pillow as you felt him begin to lightly twitch inside you. Your walls tightened around his length for the last couple thrusts, and he soon emptied a fairly large load of his seed inside of you.
The both of you breathed heavily, exhaustion starting to set into your bodies. He pulled out of you slowly, sitting back and watching his cum start to drip out of you. Just as your legs completely gave out he scooped you up and laid you on your back. He moved to lay beside you, and you placed your head on his chest, just listening to his heartbeat as you both caught your breath. You almost couldn’t believe what had just transpired, had it not been for the exhaustion you felt, and you now joining hands with Erwin.
“Do you think things will ever end? And maybe our lives can be somewhat normal?” You asked, eyes fixed on you and Erwin’s hands. He rubbed your back with his free hand, tracing small shapes into your skin.
“I’m not sure, honestly. One could only hope, I guess.”
“Well I do. When things are finally safe and all, I think we should buy a nice house, have a couple kids, and just live a quiet life.” You replied, looking up at him with a small smile. Despite how much you loved being in the Survey Corps, and how important it was to you to be here and to fight for your freedom, part of you wished things were different. You wished you and Erwin could just go off and be together, but both of you were so deeply loyal to your cause, it just wasn’t a possibility.
“Yeah, I think that’d be nice. When we finally make it out, I promise you we can.” You smiled even brighter at his words, placing a soft kiss on his lips before nuzzling back into his chest.
“Until then, we’re keeping each other safe. Just like we always have. That means I’m going to need you to gamble with your life just a little bit less.” Erwin laughed lightly, nodding his head in reply.
“Well to be fair, up until a little while ago, I had nothing to lose. Now I do.”

Found: Page 25 of the CIA’s Gateway Report on Astral Projection
Page 25 of the CIA’s “Analysis and Assessment of The Gateway Process” hitched a ride with an email one evening and landed in my inbox. A digital attachment felt like an unceremonious entrance for a document that was produced 38 years ago and has been missing and highly sought after since it was declassified in 2003. For years, people had been filing FOIA requests and speculating about what was on this missing page in the middle of a mind-bending report about military research into astral projection and other dimensions. And then, there it was, just downloaded on to my desktop quietly looking back at me. My immediate reaction was frenetic; I couldn’t chill out long enough to properly read the rogue text. I called a few friends to ensure my reality was synched properly—a telephonic pinch to verify I was awake. All signs pointed to mostly. I double clicked the file.
Let’s get into it.

A Whirlwind Backstory
I published a breakdown of the CIA’s Gateway Report in February. The classified 1983 document was produced by US Army Lieutenant Colonel Wayne M. McDonnell, with a technical power-assist from mastermind Israeli-American biomedical engineer Itzhak Bentov. The report was declassified in 2003. It packs a tour-de-force investigation into the potential achievability of astral projection into 28 hyper-dense pages. A spectre has hung over the report since. The version released by the CIA was missing what seems to be an extremely crucial page.

For the uninitiated, astral projection is mostly interchangeable with the psycho-physical phenomena of out-of-body experiences and remote viewing. With the right guidance and technologies, astral projectors believe, we can train our consciousness to move beyond the confines of the space-time dimension. This super-ability frees our human minds to travel through the universe, exploring an endless array of normally imperceptible realities and dimensions.
McDonnell states early in the report that his goal was to "construct a scientifically valid and reasonably lucid model of how consciousness functions" in order to put "out-of-body states into the language of physical science to remove the stigma of its occult connotations."
The Department of Defense's ambitions are made clear in the report's conclusion: McDonnell suggests that if the military were to experiment with astral projection, it could find "practical application," but also noted that it should "be intellectually prepared to react to possible encounters with intelligent, non-corporeal energy forms when time-space boundaries are exceeded." It kicked off years of attempts by the US Army to train psychic soldiers to conduct “remote viewing” missions to regions across the world.

A Cosmic Mystery
The report is a vicious mind labyrinth. For 24 pages, it winds its way through the spiritual and scientific underpinnings, techniques to achieve and potential applications of space-time transcendence. It introduces methodological frames of reference like hypnosis, transcendental meditation, spiritual belief systems, biofeedback, quantum physics, and universal holograms only so that its intended audience—CIA top brass—might merely begin to grasp its (and our) bigger reason for being. By the bottom of page 24, McDonnell reaches a full existential crescendo, broaching the very nature of reality itself. It’s a cliff-hanger:
Image: CIA
And then … the report skips to page 26.
As if he hadn’t just side-stepped revealing the secrets of the heavens, McDonnell is on to a set of pragmatic “Motivational Aspects” for why the CIA might employ the Gateway as opposed to other methods of achieving astral projection.
Image: CIA
Expediency Wayne? Really?
Since the report's declassification, countless FOIA requests have been filed demanding page 25’s release. In every instance, the CIA has denied they ever had it in the first place. Page 25, then, has been the holy grail not just for would-be astral projectors, but also for conspiracy theorists, government transparency activists, and people who have simply read the report and found themselves maddened by this missing information.

One fantastic internet theory maintains that McDonnell omitted the page intentionally. If someone could successfully astral project they’d be able to tell him what’s on it.
Contact
The CIA did not invent the Gateway Report and the Gateway Experience on its own. It used teachings from a man named Robert Monroe, who later founded an organization called The Monroe Institute.
Four days after we published the first article about the Gateway Report, I received a note from The Monroe Institute. They had some ideas for a follow-up piece. Drowning in responses to the article though, I failed to return their email. They reached out again. This time their message was more concrete: Sitting buried in the Monroe Institute archives in Faber, Virginia, was page 25 of The Gateway Report. But it didn't come to us easily.
Our first scheduled phone call included The Monroe Institute’s CEO, COO and marketing division. Motherboard Editor-in-Chief Jason Koebler and I got on a Google Hangout.
In that call, the Institute said that they had Page 25. People had been trying to obtain the report from the CIA and had repeatedly failed. But no one had bothered to ask them for the report; they'd had it all along. At one point, they described the report as having been "in a barn," unexamined, for all of these years. Otherwise, the call was uninspired. The CEO didn’t show. After an hour run-around it became evident that The Institute wasn’t going to part with Page 25 without some carefully orchestrated marketing plan. The words of COO Lori Jacobwith made their purpose clear, “We’re attempting to capitalize on some of the enthusiasm by a market that isn’t our normal age group.”
The institute was hoping to tap into the popularity of our first article, as well as some viral TikToks about the report.
The call ended with “You’ve touched on some things we are not talking about right now.”
The Institute then went quiet. Time passed.
One evening, the Monroe Institute’s Director of Marketing & Communications Jenny Whedbee emailed again. She'd been silent on our last call. The email contained the full Gateway Report including the missing page. She wrote that they’d just “went through a major org change.” The CEO and COO were no longer with the company. She was now down to talk, after we had read page 25.
The Missing Page
In the true spirit of discovery, I am pleased to present the full uninterrupted report in all its glory.
The page opens with the word “Absolute.” It sits there authoritatively, as if guarding the gate to the rest of the text. In the broader context of the report the term is applied to both spiritual belief systems and quantum physics alike. It's an important word.
Physicists define time as a measurement of energy in motion. In this way, time is really a measurement of change. In order for that motion to occur though, it must be limited inside a larger vibratory pattern. Inside this framework it is limited, contained at a specific location. That confinement then makes it distinguishable from other locations in space. Uncontained energy is force without limit. Imagine a formless entity speeding through the galaxy with no friction to hold it back from being everywhere. As McDonnell puts it “There is no 'here' to differentiate it from 'there.'” And this, my friends, is an absolute state or “The Absolute.”
According to the report, the Absolute is essentially the governing energy of the Universe en masse. It powers the universal hologram that is all of entirety. The report makes multiple attempts to visualize this universal hologram or “cosmic egg” as one big constantly flowing spiral.
Screengrab: CIA
Between the reality we know and The Absolute are countless intervening dimensions, McDonnell writes, which is pretty trippy stuff for a government report. Absolute is the ceiling (as far as we know it). End of the line, and a hell of a way to open a missing page.
McDonnell observes that a “stylized representation” of this spiral is present in every religious system in history. He cites the specific examples of Christianity’s Holy Spirit, the Hellenic world’s labyrinth, the Hebrew Tree of Life, its Hindu counterpart, and the Chinese Spiral Through the Four Powers. This thinking has found its way into each systems’ teachings.
The crucial distinction between the breakthroughs in modern physics and the epiphanies of religious thinkers is the way they all found The Absolute. Whereas physics leans on quantitative research, religions relied on intuition. The Gateway then sort of showed up just in time—a holistic mainline for “interfacing” with the universal hologram, freeing us from the limitations of a left brain logic-based culture.
The page’s third section takes a slant which should feel familiar to adherents of modern psychology. The universe, the Absolute, the cosmic egg. All of it is irrelevant, and certainly unreachable, until we possess knowledge of ourselves. My eyes, upon first glance of page 25, picked up “The Absolute” first, then darted swiftly to the aphorism McDonnell trots out here— “Know Thyself.” What hits even harder than achieving a psychological self-understanding, according to McDonnell, is the sense of self-perception achieved when one can manage to alter their state of consciousness to the point where the universal hologram itself can be perceived.
And it’s The Gateway Experience, McDonnell says, that promises this possibility.

Achieving Hemi-Sync
Key to the report and technique for achieving astral projection is an audio technology developed by Robert Monroe, a radio broadcasting executive who, in the 1970s, built an R&D division inside his company solely to study the effects of sound on human consciousness.
In a series of self-experiments in which he exposed himself to carefully calibrated audio frequencies while sleeping, Monroe repeatedly achieved elevated mind-body states. His 1971 book Journeys Out of The Body documents those early investigations and officially coined the term “out-of-body experience.”
Books by Robert Monroe
Monroe’s corporate R&D division eventually became The Monroe Institute, which produces tapes containing audio techniques to stimulate brain functions and achieve “Hemi-Sync.” Hemi-Sync is short for hemispheric synchronization, and is instrumental in achieving a state of consciousness in which the electrical brain patterns of both left and right hemispheres are equal in amplitude and frequency.
It does so by combining two techniques. The first is Frequency Following Response—a recognized external frequency is introduced by headphones, which causes the brain “to try to mimic the same frequency by adjusting its brainwave output.” For instance, a resting brain that hears a Theta level will shift out of its Beta level. The second technique is beat frequency. Contrasting frequencies are introduced to each ear. The brain then “chooses to “hear” the difference between them.” A brain receiving 100hz through the right ear and 104hz through the left, can then detect the delta, in this case a 4hz frequency. The technique then opens the brain to “a variety of frequencies which are played at a virtually subliminal, marginally audible level.”
With the left brain relaxed and the body in a virtual sleep state, according to the report, the conditions are ideal to promote brainwave outputs of higher and higher amplitude and frequency. When the wave pattern of a consciousness drops below an oscillation frequency of 10 to the power of -33 centimeters per second, for a brief instant it “clicks out” of space-time and joins infinity. Monroe’s theories maintain that if that “click-out” can achieve continuity you can begin dialoguing with other dimensions.
Image: CIA
The Monroe Institutes’s chief engineer today is Bob Holbrook. A former events producer, Holbrook believes the Monroe Institute's audio offerings helped him rehab from head trauma sustained in a brutal car accident. The Hemi-Sync technology featured in The Gateway Report was sold to a company now called Hemi-Sync®. The audio technology stack The Institute now produces—collectively called Monroe Audio Support (MAS)—is a hugely evolved version of the original binaural beats-based technique. As Bob puts it, “Binaural beats was just one technology, now we have 50.” This widens and populates the spectrum of experience for participants. “MAS takes the idea of binaural beats and utilizes many other “colors” and technologies to create more intense experiences in different levels of consciousness.” A key MAS ingredient is gamma synchrony. “It allows us to connect much more easily to 'all that is,'” he said. Two additional innovations play a central role—Phase Modulation and Amplitude Modulation. Phase Modulation changes the direction from which a sound feels like it’s coming from. Bob shared an audio-visual animation illustrating sound source oscillation.
Amplitude Modulation gives technicians the capability to drop into the soundscape live and manipulate specific aspects of the volume.
The Institute shared a 30-minute sample of their newer programming for this article. Headphones are essential for full results.
The Monroe Institute’s tapes combined these frequencies with subliminal suggestions from Monroe himself. An archive titled “The Explorer Series” contains recordings of the Monroe Institute Research Division’s experiments, in which subjects “report from these non-physical environments.”
Up until COVID, all meditators physically travelled to The Monroe Institute’s palatial headquarters in Faber, Virginia to work through a series of increasingly challenging levels. The 7-day course offers the possibility for one’s consciousness to navigate space, time, and beyond. That is, if you’ve got what it takes.
It’s these tapes and their potential applications that caught the attention of the CIA and prompted the commission of the report.
The Monroe Institute Today
After I read page 25, I called Jenny Whedbee back up.
She said Monroe is an organization that was trying to find its way in an ever-shifting world. “There’s a part of this organization that definitely needs to grow, but it needs to grow at a pace that keeps with the tenets of who we are,” she said. The importance of listening to where an organization comes from before deciding on a future was a theme. “If you don’t have the input from people who have been here a while, then you’re not really staying true to what the Institute is.”
Paramount to staying that course is the guiding light of its influential founder Robert Monroe. “We’ve had a lot of executives come and go. I know Robert Monroe is still here and still trying to run things,” she said.
It’s this pioneering energy that powers her enthusiasm. In reference to their newer classes, she explained, “Gateway Voyage is primarily the same exact program that Robert Monroe developed. And so is Lifeline, Exploration 27, Guidelines. Those core programs, he actually worked on and developed.”
“It puts you into direct experience with expanded states of consciousness where you can explore and ask questions and receive answers and visit past lives," she said. "You can astral travel.”
These programs are grueling. Participants go through five or six exercises a day for five straight days. “It’s like running a marathon,” she said.
Jenny joined the company without much experience in consciousness elevation but swiftly got the feel for things. “It did exactly what the course said it was going to do," she said. "I experienced past lives. It gave me this 20,000-foot view of my life. Not just this one, but previous and future.”
“If you want the rocket ship where your life is forever enlightened, you’re not going to get that any other way than coming here,” she said.
The conversation with Jenny eventually turned to page 25.
“I have my own interpretation," she said. "Whether it was accidentally or intentionally left out I don’t know. Like I said there are people that work in this place that are on another plane and not here in the physical.”
For Jenny, the page appeared at the right time and place. “I feel like 20 years ago the world wasn’t ready to hear. But this generation is ready.” She says the institute changed her life.
“You grow up, you go to school, you get married, you have kids, you go to church, you die," she said. "And your life lives on through your family. There is value there. But on a much deeper level it’s the relationships and the memories you create. Not all this stuff we’re collecting. So what if that page was released 20 years ago? Could it have backlashed? Cause it talks about religion and that all religions are equal. And what if people feel really powerfully that not all religions are equal. I feel like the generations nowadays, they’re not so wrapped up in that anymore."
Jenny said that young people today are pushing for social justice and are more open to different perceptions of consciousness and different ways of living. "There’s this whole thing going on where people are awakening," she said. "People become more conscious, people become more awakened—tearing down the monuments in Richmond. Enough’s enough. This has come about at a time when your generation has questions and they want to know and they’re ready to hear the answers without judgment.”
“TikTok happened, you happened, all this happened for a very important reason that’s not of this physical plane,” she said.
Jenny concluded our hour-long conversation with a suggestion for how to handle page 25. “Do something with it. You know even if it’s you just saying what it means to you.”
[Hold my beer]
A Consciousness Feedback Loop
The Gateway Report is so dense in parts, it compromises its own accessibility. The goal of my initial synthesis was to create a written and visual experience (including, ahem, some premium custom graphics) that might help folks without a PHD in quantum physics benefit from its huge thinking.
It struck a nerve.
Over the course of a 3-week period, millions of readers made their way through an admittedly arduous editorial obstacle course. Studios reached out.
Two days after the article’s release, we inserted an invitation:
“Have you had an experience with The Monroe Institute, Hemi-Sync or had an out-of-body experience? Get in touch: [email protected]”
Thousands of emails came in from folks all over the world who described their out-of-body experiences. To me, it signaled the possibility that many of us are searching for something more than what seems currently available. To describe my experience in telling this story and the search in many senses, I produced a visual reinterpretation of page 25.

'The Gateway' is a high-resolution digital image of a print of the missing page 25 of the CIA's Gateway Report. It contains 659 digital micro-inscriptions of out-of-body experience accounts, that only become visible at 300%+ magnification.
Just look closer.

Hey, hope you’re doing well and staying safe! I just have a quick question, do you have any sorts of advice on creating good analogies/similes/metaphors? From the super outrageous types to the super artistic. Thanks in advance :)
Analogy/Simile/Metaphor Tips
I only really have two to share, but I hope they’ll be helpful!
1) I heard a tip once long ago that has always stuck with me: wordplay works best when it is relevant to the story or situation in some way. Otherwise it can have the effect of pulling the reader out of the story. That’s definitely true for me. If I’m reading a futuristic sci-fi story that takes place on a sleek military spaceship, and the POV character walks into the enlisted mess and compares the mood of the room to the casual sophistication of diners at a Paris street cafe, unless that character happens to be French or has recently visited France, that’s going to seem really out of place to me. If the character is commenting on the casual sophistication of the other diners, perhaps a more fitting comparison would be that it was like walking into an informal dinner at the captain’s table.
2) Another thing to watch out for with wordplay is to make sure your character would have enough knowledge/experience of a thing that they would use it in a comparison to something else. For example, if I’m reading a far-future fantasy set in a forested kingdom, and the princess POV character walks out onto the moonlit beach beneath her coastal castle to meet her love, if she compares the color of his eyes to sun-baked desert sand, I’m going to instantly question what she knows of the desert. Is there a desert in her kingdom? Has she been to it? Has she seen paintings of it, and if so, would it make a big enough impression to her that this is the thing she calls to mind when looking at the eyes of her love? Would it make more sense for her to choose something more relevant to her world and experience? If you’re writing in third-person omniscient, maybe it doesn’t matter as much since your narrator is all-knowing, though it’s still probably a good idea not to be too random. But if you’re writing in third-person limited or first-person, these are good things to keep in mind. :)

Alien Franchise Thoughts
This weekend I happened to catch and rewatch Alien: Covenant. Right after that I caught and rewatched Aliens. This was sheerly through channel surfing luck that I watched these movies in this order. But, in doing so I connected some dots and had some realizations that gave me a new appreciation for the prequel series.
A Bit of Background
I can’t remember if I saw Alien or The Terminator first, so Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor get equal billing for being “the first” female action heroes I ever encountered. Prior to them I’d seen Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis watching action films with my dad. So seeing not Tom Skerrit’s Captain Dallas or John Hurt’s Kane but Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley take on the role of Action Hero was essential to my development as an eleven-year-old girl. I’m not even exaggerating for the sake of drama. Watching Ripley in Alien was one of the first examples I saw in media of a woman in a role I’d only seen taken on by male characters before. For this reason alone, the original Alien holds a special place in my heart.
The Original Series
I have mixed feelings about the franchise as a whole. I loved Alien and Aliens to me was just as good and is one of the few sequels that measures up to the original. It lost me at Alien 3 when they killed off Newt and Hicks in the opening crash land. Forcing Ripley into the “sole survivor” role becomes formulaic here and… honestly I’ve had no desire to rewatch Alien 3 and completely forget the entire plot other than the fact that it takes place in a prison setting and Ripley had to shave her head. And they killed off Ripley! I remember being very upset all around at Alien 3 and I think I mentally disowned it.
Alien: Resurrection brought me back around because Ripley was back! And there was Winona Ryder! However, Ripley wasn’t the same Ripley we remembered. She was some clone or hybrid or… I don’t really know what they were going for there. But, I looked at this film as a standalone almost AU installment and I’m actually very okay with it. Not my favorite by a longshot, but a slight redemption from Alien 3’s mess.
Alien vs. Predator
No. Just no. Denied. Why? What even? WHY?!
I’ve seen a few of these movies and if you’re a fan of big monsters fighting one another with a bunch of random humans caught in the middle, these movies might be your jam. If you’re a Predator or an Alien fan, though, it kind of doesn’t fit in with either in my opinion.
The Prequels
When I watched Prometheus I hadn’t done any research on it at all, so I had no idea it had anything to do with the Alien franchise. I saw a space-themed action-horror film with Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender involved and I was IN, man. Honorable mention to Logan Marshall-Green, who is also awesome but I didn't catch in the trailers. So he was a nice surprise.
The opening scene was unworldly and gorgeous, much like the opening of The Mists of Avalon, which is a weird comparison, I know. But I was enchanted by this opening scene much like I was as I watched Morgaine Le Fey float through the mist that served as a doorway to a magical world. We see an unknown being on an alien planet perform a mysterious ritual and then plummet into the water. The first clue was the title card, which even then I thought “Oh, cool! They did the Alien thing!” but hadn’t connected it as directly related. I’d just thought it was a subtle nod because of the Ridley Scott connection.
I loved Prometheus as a film. I had a very similar reaction to it that I had to the original Alien movie. We had an ensemble of characters, all with their own personalities and enough development to make us care. Noomi Rapace became the reluctant hero as opposed to the expected Charlize Theron, who had been in the Ripley role (“He’s not coming on my ship.”). As the Alien clues dropped, I picked them up and quickly (excitedly) realized the film was somehow connected – it had to be. For me, that was just the cherry on top of a fantastic film.
Alien: Covenant made me feel much like Alien 3 did. The ending of Prometheus had been hopeful, echoing both the endings of Alien and Aliens. Our hero Elizabeth Shaw had survived and would bring android David along to find the Engineers and get her answers. Ridley Scott himself spoke about a possible sequel involving Elizabeth and David trying to do just that.
And then we got Alien: Covenant. Elizabeth and David were nowhere to be found and instead we were (hastily) introduced to an entire new crew of characters whose development was severely lacking in the film. We don’t even know everyone’s paired up in romantic couples until people start dying. When David did finally appear to rescue everyone I was excited. Yes! Finally, a tie-in to Prometheus. And then we learn Elizabeth died suspiciously and the franchise is turned over to David. To say I was infuriated would be an understatement.
I was more excited about the project Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn spoke about at a comic-con panel that would’ve followed Alien and Aliens (and maybe retconned some stuff) than I was about whatever Ridley Scott did next (I still kind of am, if I’m honest). Why would someone take a franchise helmed by a powerhouse female action hero and then make its lead an insane android and his pet virus? Why would I want to follow this asshole instead of Shaw, Daniels, or even Vickers?
Final Analysis
Watching Aliens right on the heels of Alien: Covenant made it easier for me to make some connections and parallels. In Aliens, a group of marines attempts to travel to a space colony that lost contact to see what’s going on. Ripley is brought along (with Burke, that shit) as a consultant “just in case” (even though everyone treats her like she has a case of the vapors when she tells them about the xenomorphs). The premise makes little sense on the outset. However, when we later learn Burke’s true motivation it makes perfect sense. Burke believes Ripley, although he makes a show of the opposite. And he wants to bag an alien to bring home and sell to the highest bidder. When the soldiers start stomping carelessly around blowing holes in things with there big dumb weapons, it’s infuriating to the audience, knowing what we know. However, it’s also infuriating to Ripley and we’re reminded why she’s there. These are soldiers who, of course, have no idea what to do with an alien species and probably aren’t used to exploring alien environments.
This is very similar to what’s going on in Alien: Covenant. Not made clear in the film due to the character development scenes (such as “the last supper” prologue) being cut, this crew are explorers and colonists. They’re not astronauts or scientists. A few of the characters appear to be military escorts or officers. Of course they’re tromping around without a care in the world. They don’t know any better. Their captain, Jake Bronson, dies mid-journey and his second-in-command, Billy Crudup’s Oram, is super insecure about his new position. This is frequently shown in his interactions with Katherine Waterson’s No First Name Daniels, who was also Bronson’s wife. Daniels has a comradery and respect with the crew not present with Oram. So, when Oram has to start making decisions he’s acting more on his insecurity and his need to Do Something and be taken seriously than acting on the information and advice he’s given. Also, once we know the relationships between characters everyone’s bizarre anti-survival behavior makes a ton of sense. After a certain point in the film, everyone has lost a spouse and/or a ton of friends. Everyone is grieving, scared, and not at all trained to be doing what they’re doing, and they don’t have a Ripley on board to help guide them. “Game over, man! Game over!”
Yeah, Alien: Covenant is what happens when you make every character a Hudson.
Watching Ripley’s reaction to Bishop in Aliens reminded me how iffy Ash the A.I. was in Alien. You know, he got all murdery and everything.
Then I remembered – oh, yeah – Alien: Covenant is a prequel. This means David is an A.I. precursor of some kind to Ash… which means he’s a faulty A.I. Also, Ripley encountered creatures and situations no one had discovered before to our knowledge (due to everyone’s reaction to Ripley’s story in Aliens). This ultimately means no one can make it out of these prequels alive or it compromises Ripley’s established story.
David is a faulty A.I., which hasn’t yet been experienced by anyone living who has encountered androids in space exploration if we go by the example of Ash in Alien. Failsafes haven’t been given to androids yet to limit their emotional depths or put rules in place to prevent them from harming humans. He’s creating creatures that are new. No one knows they exist, so no one is prepared for them (just like the crew of the Nostromo wasn’t prepared for the xenomorphs in Alien). Even heavily trained soldiers, scientists, and astronauts will be encountering deadly things they don’t know are out there: a highly intelligent rogue A.I. capable of experiencing emotion and evolution, mutated weaponized creatures unlike anything they’ve ever seen before, and an alien virus that mutates its host and is undetectably ingested.
Guys, ain’t nobody emerging as the lone heroic survivor of anything in this franchise (except the fucking xenomorph).
Having digested and accepted that information, I am grimly awaiting what happens next, and I really hope with all my giddy little heart that theorized Aliens sequel Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn teased is going to happen. I’ll even take a video game version.
Hicks and Newt deserved better and I stand by that.

Moodboard: Jaime x Brienne - Jurassic Park AU
“Did you forget? We are going on a class trip today, Brienne.”
“You did not mention that to me as far as I remember.”
“Well, we are going. And it’s a school trip, so I can’t really skip it, can I?”
“Certainly not,” Brienne agrees, getting up to grab the car keys. Life has vastly changed for the young woman ever since she became the legal guardian for Arya Stark, after her parents and her older brother alongside his wife died in a tragic accident. In fact, Brienne was quite set on pursuing her military career in the Marine Corps, but when news reached her that Cat had passed away and meant to entrust her youngest daughter into her care, Brienne knew that her plans were about to change.
Though Arya has since tested Brienne’s devotion. The girl does not enjoy the new living conditions. Brienne accounts that to her grief foremost, which is why she lets some of those things slide, regardless of the fact that she demands discipline otherwise, something inherent in a former Marine Corps Colonel. However, there are limits to that for Brienne, and she will do whatever it takes to ensure that Arya settles in, into her new life in King’s Landing, and as her foster child, to her own conditions.
And so, Brienne drops the dark-haired girl off to drive to work, unaware that Arya has her very own plans. The Stark girl has done her research on this ominous Valyrian Park set in Old Valyria, which is still under construction. A former employee uploaded a video to YouTrident that he could take before he was thrown out. While the video has long since been taken down, the girl remembers every image in detail as she keeps replaying her file copy over and over again, stopping at one part of the video every time, the one thing that matters: Nymeria.
While Arya is still unclear about how the direwolf ended up in Old Valyria, she is determined to get her back now that she know where to find her. After she lost her parents and big brother already, Arya is determined to have Nymeria back in her life. She once owned the direwolf, but then she had to let her walk free when it was demanded that the animal be put down because Nymeria had bitten this asshole Joffrey Baratheon after he had beaten around Arya’s friend Mycah. But of that one thing Arya was certain after she saw the video: Nymeria has truly thrived since they parted ways, and now stands as tall as about thrice the size she was by the time Arya set her free.
Thus, the class trip of her stupid archaeology class came up just at the right moment. While the others have their dear fun at the museum by the docks, Arya slips away and onto the ship she knows will depart to Valyria to bring supplies there. Hidden away in the storage rooms, and equipped with enough food and drink to make it back, the girl wants to make it all the way to Valyrian Park, determined to get into the habitat to find her direwolf.
She will not lose just one more family member, she will make sure of it.
Back in King’s Landing, Brienne receives the one phone call she was about as little prepared for as she was for when she was informed of Cat’s demise: Arya’s teacher, already lost in tears, tells her that her foster child disappeared without a trace, that police is looking for her, but that she hasn’t been found yet.
Brienne, in an effort to find out to where the girl may have headed, goes into Arya’s room and starts to go through her things. She eventually finds a downloaded video file on the girl’s computer, depicting what Brienne knows at once to be Arya’s most treasured pet she had to give away before she came to King’s Landing.
“Couldn’t you talk to me first before running off to find Nymeria?” Brienne sighs, but she takes some solace in having a first clue about to where the girl likely headed: Valyrian Park.
Whatever that place is.
“Time to call in some favors, then.”
Elsewhere in the capitol, Jaime Lannister receives a sudden call from his brother Tyrion whom he hasn’t seen in years after the dwarfish man relocated to Essos to work for Daenerys Targaryen.
“What would you want?” Jaime asks with a grin. “I thought you are far too busy with your secretive life elsewhere to bother about your old brother rotting away back home.”
“Remember when I said to you that the work I do here in Essos is so very top secret that I could never possibly tell you about it because it is so, so, so very highly classified as super top secret?”
“You may have bragged about it a good dozen times. Why?” Jaime answers, sensing the distress in his brother’s voice.
And that can never mean any good.
“Uhm, well, something in that very secret project may have happened that may or may not require your professional input.”
“Tyrion, just say what is going on.”
“We seemingly had an intruder in the habitat of the facility,” the younger man answers.
“Habitat? You will have to be a bit more specific here, brother,” Jaime huffs.
“I can’t pass on specific information over the phone,” Tyrion insists.
“If there is a security problem you have at your precious secret hideout, you should call the security personnel and let them handle the matter instead of hoping for me to hop on a plane and get there,” Jaime advises him, already growing annoyed.
“It’s not about someone who entered our facility… I mean, it is in a way, but it is about finding that person again. You have the capacities to track that intruder down, as the best pathfinder the Army has ever had in its services. If someone can track that intruder down, it is you. And we need your help presently before… something happens,” Tyrion tells him.
“You may also recall that I had to leave the Army after my hand injury. I am not really the most able man anymore, quite literally so,” Jaime argues, looking back down on his right hand in a splint that he knows he won’t ever take off for long because that is the one thing that lets him use that hand in some way, at least.
“Lives are on the line, Jaime.”
The older man closes his eyes. “… Then book me a flight as soon as you can. But I make no guarantees.”
“Thank you so, so, so much.”
“And I will demand all information once I get there,” Jaime adds.
“I promise.”
“I will see you there.”
“Bye.”
“Bye.”
Tyrion hangs up after that, feeling slightly relieved that he is getting help from someone he knows is very capable of doing his job. The young man is just about to get started on putting together a report for his brother, when suddenly, his phone rings, displaying a number that is not one of the few the department handed out to the staff. Tyrion frowns. No one should have that number other than employers and employees of Valyrian Park. Hesitantly, he takes the call. “Hello?”
“The name is Brienne of Tarth, Colonel of the Westeros Marine Corps. Do I speak to… Mr. Tyrion Lannister?” a young woman’s voice rings out, leaving no doubt in Tyrion’s mind that this lady is not up for fun of any kind.
“Yes, but how do you have that number? No one is supposed to…,” Tyrion means to say, but the woman cuts him off sharply, “I have influential friends and called in some favors from the military who helped you set up your park across the Narrow Sea. But that is not the matter. The matter is that I think you and I share in the same problem, namely that you currently host a girl at Valyrian Park who should have no business there, even more so because you should have security in place to prevent a young girl from stealing on a ship to make it all the way to your facility across the Narrow Sea. Am I correct in that assessment, Mr. Lannister?”
“Well, that is a complicated matter…,” Tyrion wants to say, but Brienne is not having any of it, “This is a yes or no question, sir. Is she in Old Valyria?”
“… Yes.”
“Do you have her there right now so I can speak to her? Or do I have to call in more favors to file a lawsuit against you for keeping this information from law enforcement over in Westeros who are still looking for the girl?” Brienne threatens him, because she cannot believe that they would not call her at once if they have knowledge that Arya is there.
“No, no lawsuit necessary. We have her on camera… only, though,” Tyrion tells her.
“So she is not…,” Brienne mutters, and Tyrion confirms. “She stole into the habitat. We sent security out to get her, but we have lost her yesterday. Steps have since been taken to send a rescue team, Ms. Tarth. When we noticed her presence with our heat-sensitive cameras, one of our test subjects destroyed the camera, and by the time the system was back up, the intruder… the girl was gone.”
“Has the rescue team since left to search for her?” Brienne asks, trying to keep her calm, though her heart is almost beating out of her chest. She is supposed to protect Arya, and now this.
“No, we are still putting together a team as we speak,” Tyrion replies.
“Then that should give me enough time to get to Old Valyria to join said team,” Brienne says with determination.
Tyrion’s eyes widen at that. “What? No, Ms. Tarth. Rest assured that we will handle the matter.”
“I won’t rest assured until Arya is back with me. I will come to Valyrian Park, this way or the other. You can only decide on the mood I will be in by the time I will set foot on Old Valyria, Mr. Lannister. So you either get me on a plane or I will come to you, even more pissed than I am by virtue of you having kept it from federal government and thus from me for a whole day that a young girl wanders around your habitat, whatever it may hold as test subjects.”
Tyrion licks his lips. No, that woman is definitely not up for games of any kind. “Well… there may be a free spot on the private jet meant to go to Valyria tomorrow morning.”
“Then I will be on that private jet. I will expect a full report once I arrive.”
“Curiously, I heard that same sentence today already,” Tyrion laughs nervously.
“Good day, Mr. Lannister.”
“Good day, Ms. Tarth.”
With that, the young woman hangs up. Brienne takes a moment to gather herself before setting out to the task of packing her gear. Because of that she is certain, whatever is in this habitat means no good. She has seen Nymeria in that video, and if something else that size roams around the habitat, Brienne must get to Arya out of there as soon as possible.
Because there is nothing more hateful than failing to protect the ones you love.
On the next day, Brienne is one of the first to arrive at the port from which they are supposed to take the private jet to Old Valyria, but she is ever the more surprised when she hears that they have to wait for another passenger. Though thankfully, the man arrives before Brienne can knock the pilot over to take the jet herself, because she just has to get to Arya, no matter the costs.
“Good day… are you my flight attendant? How convenient of my brother to think about that,” the man chimes.
“I am going to Valyrian Park to join a rescue team. And what are you doing here?” she wants to know.
“Coincidentally, the same,” he says with a grin, holding out his hand to her. “Jaime Lannister.”
Brienne narrows her eyes at him, but then takes his hand. “Brienne of Tarth. So you must be Mr. Lannister’s brother, I’d assume.”
“He is the brains, I am the muscles, but yeah,” Jaime confirms.
“It makes no difference now anyway. We should get going.”
“Agreed.”
And so, the jet takes off to bring them to Old Valyria. After a quick exchange, Jaime has to realize that the stakes have just been raised for the mission, because it turns out that the intruder is not just some thug who stole shiny lab material, but apparently a young girl lost in the middle of a habitat that may very well inhabit very dangerous animals, something he can confirm himself after Brienne shows him the video she uploaded to her phone before departing.
Tyrion will suffer for keeping that from me. I will smack him all the way into the last century.
Once they arrive at the airport, they are greeted by Tyrion and Daenerys Targaryen, the founder of Valyrian Park.
“So you are responsible for endangering children?” Brienne spats once they get off the plane.
“I am preserving endangered species, Ms. Tarth,” Ms. Targaryen answers.
“Well, maybe a dark-haired girl is not special enough to you, but Arya is to me,” Brienne scoffs through narrowed eyes.
“Ladies, ladies, please,” Tyrion interrupts, holding up his hands. “We all came here for the same purpose, which is to find the girl, Arya, I mean. So we should not waste our time arguing, but setting out to work.”
“Agreed,” Brienne says, nodding her head.
They proceed into the headquarters, where they meet Ms. Targaryen’s right-hand man Jorah Mormont. Together, they go around a small tour within the facility, since Tyrion insists that one has to see it in order to understand it. As it turns out, Daenerys hired Tyrion to aid her in reviving literal dragons from three ancient eggs that have been in her family’s possession for many generations. She has long since dreamed about “hatching” them, but a special procedure was needed to awake them from the stone. Tyrion has since succeeded in extracting the DNA from the eggs to breed hybrid dragons by mixing that DNA with those of reptiles, in the hope to eventually breed back to the ancient dragons that died out and disappeared from the face of the earth. Ms. Targaryen bears the personal hope to not only breed back dragons in general, but also to revive the three dragons from the stone, once they have obtained enough data from their hybrids.
“If everything goes according to plan, dragons will become part of nature again, as they once were. In Valyrian Park, they can thrive because that is their natural habitat. And children and adults alike will get to see dragons fly again,” Daenerys explains.
“And get some big money into your pockets, I’d assume,” Jaime huffs.
“You need money to run a business, Mr. Lannister. But our purpose is greater than tourism. It is to bring to life a species that did not deserve to die out just because people deemed it too dangerous. Here, we can now create the conditions to let the dragons thrive, but within limits,” Ms. Targaryen insists. “They are not the monsters they were made out to be. They just need a place to stay, and that should be the place from where they came. That is here. This is their home.”
“And you seem to have done a great job setting those limits, considering that it took just one little girl to get through them all,” Jaime snorts.
“The park was not meant to be opened up to the public until much later. The girl intruded, and yes, that was a failure in our security system, but frankly, we didn’t think that a girl would go such lengths only to steal into the habitat,” Daenerys fires back.
“Do you sincerely want to blame Arya for that? You are breeding weapons of mass destruction in small here,” Jaime scoffs, for which Brienne is thankful, because he expresses her very sentiment. “I tend to think that evolution happens for a reason, Ms. Targaryen, and the dragons had their shot… and lost.”
“And that is a misconception, Mr. Lannister. Because dragons did not just disappear because they failed to adapt, they were forced into submission. Humans made them disappear from the face of earth by trying to control them. That was not natural selection, not evolution. It was human-made destruction. And I just mean to give back to the species what we as humanity have taken away from them,” Daenerys insists. “I am righting a wrong.”
“Which has me wondering whether you care more about some gigantic lizards or… humans,” Jaime huffs, turning to Tyrion with an all-saying look of disapproval.
“One can care about both,” the young woman with silver-blonde hair insists.
“I am not too sure about that,” Jaime huffs.
“If you allowed,” Jorah interrupts. “I would suggest that I will go with you and the remains of the team into the habitat to find the girl and bring her to safety.”
“We will come with to the border.”
“But Ms. Targaryen,” Jorah mutters.
“I insist.”
“As you will. Now come. We have no time to lose.”
“This is the second smart thing I heard someone of you say today, which is not a good statistic, I may add,” Jaime scoffs as they head to the boats which are meant to take them to the habitat.
However, once they arrive there, it doesn’t take them long to notice that something is wrong. Some of the cages are broken through or otherwise damaged.
“How did they get through that?”
“Because dragons can breathe fire and fire melts steel,” Jaime comments as he inspects the fences. “Seems like your breeding back goes faster than you thought.”
They are interrupted by the growl of an animal about ten times their size, and hungry for a snack.
“So now, everyone gets back into the boat. I will go looking for the girl. And you two especially would do best staying around the bear guy here, because he knows his training and may be able to prevent your personal WMDs from barbecuing us all. Great theme park idea, I must say!”
“I am going with you,” Brienne insists.
“I can handle it alone.”
“I am not going back. Arya is out there. I vowed to find her. And so I will, whether you want to or not.”
“Fine then!”
Jaime realizes that Brienne won’t budge, so they quickly disappear into the woods before the dragon can get to them. Jorah takes Daenerys and Tyrion back out with the boat, in the hope that the hybrids they know are in the ocean were not yet alerted to their presence.
The two soldiers proceed into the deeper parts of the habitat in search for Arya. Thankfully, they are a surprisingly good team, since both have expertise in fighting and surviving in dangerous environments. Though certainly, neither Army nor Marines prepared them for fending off live dragons.
And so, the two race to find the girl amidst the habitat who is busy chasing her direwolf rather than getting back home, only to find out that the danger coming from the dragon hybrids may be far greater than firstly estimated, considering that they have since learned and adapted to their habitat with any intention to break free and seek out other places than Old Valyria, much in contrast to what Ms. Targaryen had originally in mind for them.
Jaime and Brienne thus find themselves in dire danger, which forces two soldiers struggling not just for survival but also their own personal demons far closer together than either one would ever dare to anticipate.
And it has yet to be determined who is going to win this fight of survival of the fittest…

Devlog #6 Writing, Music, and Art
Hey y’all! I wanted to give an update since I’m pretty sure everyone thinks I’m dead ^^;
For quick updates on the project: OCG is being produced in two parts now. Part 1 will contain the many mysteries that the world of OCG has to offer and part 2 will be a sort of answer arc. The first draft of OCG part 1 is written and I’ve been hard at work revising and editing the prologue and chapter 1 of the script. For part 1, there is roughly 6-7 chapters of planned content. I’m hoping that at the end of the day, Part 1 will resonate with you, the reader.
Covid has been extremely hard on my ability to complete the project. I won’t get too personal on a devblog, but my health and finances were impacted. I apologize for the delays and this account’s inactivity. I feel like I'm letting down the people who want to read OverClock Gear and I just want to let everyone know that I'm still committed to working on the project and that despite the inactivity, I'm still working hard to improve every aspect as much as possible.
I'd like to share some of the things I learned along the way so that maybe future devs can learn something from my struggles.
WRITING:
As a warning, I want to say that none of the following are hard rules of writing. These are just things that I've observed as a writer and as a consumer.
Probably the most challenging part of a Visual Novel is writing a script that works with the format. The rules for VN writing are different from traditional novels and screenplays as many elements will be shown on screen but usually not enough to get a full sense what's going on. This is more of an opinion, but I feel that the descriptions should supplement the action and we should pick and choose when to show with sprites instead of describing. This is especially true when considering dialogue and internal monologue will make up a majority of the script akin to a movie.
It's not to say you should ignore everything you know about writing, however. There's still things about structure and character arcs that are useful.
Speaking of characters, balancing your cast is also a challenge. Every character is fighting for enough screen time to develop enough for the reader to care. As I'm writing OCG, I am trimming down and trying to give each cast member enough time to breathe while keeping in mind the characters' backstories and motivations. There's also the delicate balance between backstory and current events to keep in mind. I think it's especially hard to figure out how to reveal backstory without dumping a history lesson on the player.
There's also the issue with paragraph length for display purposes. VNs have a unique format that breaks down text into easily digestible chunks. However, overutilizing the space can sometimes make the reading experience worse.
There are a lot of things to consider visually too when writing your script. I've had to think about the actual space that they occupy so that chain of events make sense. Since there will be visual elements to the story, I need to try to figure out how those elements fit in too as I'm writing. For instance, how characters will appear, do gestures, and different CGs that need to appear are crucial to the format and needs to be considered.
From a general storytelling perspective, I've been toying with the idea of including gameplay. However, I realized that in trying to do so, I'd have to create a bunch of excuses to play the minigame which would be:
1. Unsatisfying without enough stages to challenge the player
OR
2. Disrupt the story to challenge the player
I think that if I wanted to have gameplay, I should plot out the game in a way such that the story fits the gameplay and not the other way around. Since I'm working on a primarily story driven experience, I won't be including any minigames that would take the player out of the experience. However, I have ideas for games that could take place in the world of OverClock Gear. Those are sitting in the vault until I release OCG part 1.
There's also something interesting I learned about twists and keeping people engaged in stories. Maybe this is something of a beginner's trap, but when people say a character isn't interesting it's usually because a character doesn't have anything meaningful to say or do, or they're simply floating through the story without influencing it. Giving a character powers and an award winning backstory isn't really enough to make someone interesting in a story. Giving a character flaws also doesn't make them automatically interesting. It's how you tie all these traits into story and their impact on other characters that make it interesting.
In today's day and age, readers have become more critical and perceiving than ever before, so it may seem like you'd need to hide more information to make your twists have impact. But I think it's better to show some of your hand. Twists also need room to breathe. They need to be logical but unexpected. A reader needs to convince themselves that it was possible through several minor clues leading up to the event. But balancing what to show and what to hide is a challenge in itself. Through showing off my script edits, I came to the conclusion that setting up expectations is a lot more satisfying than trying to make everything a mystery. Readers seem to get frustrated when the mystery leads nowhere in a story for an extended period of time. However, that's not to say every mystery should be revealed in a quick fashion. I think it's a balancing act, one in which we have to reveal what we can to keep the reader engaged while hiding the bigger stuff behind the curtains. In a way it's like slight of hand: We try to misdirect the audience with "true" events in the story and then blow them away with something they never saw coming.
An example of a bad twist from a scrapped project that I did several years ago: The main character meets a super secret organization who protects her from a military government. One of the people who protects her is a commander in that organization and seems to know a thing or two about the MC. However he is shot and killed before anything could be revealed.
There are elements that we can anticipate from the scenario: The MC is caught up in some crazy conspiracy with rogues and the military. However, the characters don't come off as interesting because they aren't given room to breathe. The organization became a device to set up the premise of the story. The commander doesn't impact the story and basically anybody else could've stepped in to save the MC. The MC isn't given time to bond with the commander and as such the twist at the end doesn't come across as earned.
These are just some thing that I've been thinking about as I've been consuming media and writing. There are too many games and fictional works that I've ruined for myself by being too critical. But through this, I'm hoping that the final script for OverClock Gear will be something I can be proud of.
Art:
I'm studying animation production to try to incorporate some of that knowledge into my VN. I want to be able to create a more immersive experience and make my VN more visually appealing. Some works that I really like are Muv Luv and Phoenix Wright. They're both unique in their presentation and utilize different parts of visual media that make them stand out.
The Muv Luv team are masters at using dynamic camera movement to craft visual spectacles. Despite the sprites being mostly non-moving, the way they are tweened and the few pose changes they have are combined with the camera in a way that almost makes them feel alive. Even in the first cutscene of Muv Luv Alternative, the parallax effects and strong camera angles help to sell that cinematic feel that isn't really found in any other VN's I've read.
Phoenix Wright's sprites are a joy to look at. The animations are done with such strong key poses that I sometimes forget the game's animations were meant to be limited. In the modern day, there are many tools that are used to create smooth looking animations with complex actions like 3D models or Live2D. I'm honestly not a huge fan of Live2D animations as it often looks as if a puppeteer is handling the rig. 3D also presents the issue of having to create specialized rigs that can handle weird scenarios like foreshortening. For example in Dragon Ball Fighter Z, there's a lot of model distortion in cinematics that is pretty complicated for someone with no 3D expertise. Facial expressions are also a huge part of making visual novel character appealing which can be difficult to do well on a 3D model. Not to mention, to emulate a 2D style, the frames need to be displayed at 24fps which means chopping frames in-between the interpolated keys. It can be a lot of work to create something that closely resembles "Anime". There is also a charm in a more traditional approach to animation that I think more visual novels should employ. Though I recognize that for complicated sprites, a traditionally drawn 2d animation isn't practical at all, I want to use the idea of strong key poses to create more lively sprites as well as play with depth to further immersion.
There are some more ideas that I have for creating a better visual experience, but I don't want to go into too much of a tangent ^^;
Music:
I went back to learn more about music theory and I came across some great videos that emulate the Japanese video game/Pop style. If you're curious, you can check out Gavin Leper's channel on YouTube. That being said, something I realized about music in Visual Novels and Film in particular is that sometimes the music should accompany the dialogue or actions in the work instead of overpowering it. There are moments when elevator music is important and when it's important to use a swelling emotional piece. Not everything in life "goes hard" and I think that also applies to music in stories as well. Music in games is also designed to loop in contrast to film where individual pieces can be created for specific scenes. This adds an entirely new thing to think about since it needs to be repeatable without getting annoying. I don't really have a clean answer to this, but to observe songs from games you like and see how they transition from the end to the part that loops.
This was a long post and there's so much more I want to talk about but I'm trying to stay productive and get the script done. For anyone else struggling with finishing their VN, "Finish the Script" by Scott King is an excellent book. Wishing everyone the best!

@ROTC contributor. I don't mean to hijack this site haha... but not really comfortable dropping my net ID, and have 1 more Q. Basically, I'm interested in USMC, because I want to be an infantry officer, and I think the Corps trains the best platoon-level leaders and Marines in the military. Every Marine is a rifleman first, etc. At the same time, USMC isn't funded very well and isn't super relevant in current conflicts. Rangers and SOCOM get the missions. Thoughts on these tradeoffs?
Response from a contributor:
Yeah, I mean I’m not an expert here so I can’t say much about this. I work closely with Marines and understand somewhat what you mean, but honestly I can’t give you the advice you want without referring you to someone else. I see what you’re saying about the Army/Navy getting missions, but I know some people leaving TBS right now who are headed to the Infantry Officer Course who could give more perspective on the role of an infantry officer in the USMC right now.
I can tell you for sure I would not join with the hopes of getting to do the “cool shit” or whatever. You have to go to TBS after OCS where they decide which MOS you’ll be assigned. Sure you get to rank your choices, but the Marine Corps has a system of diversifying talent - I forget the exact term - where they divide the graduating class into thirds and assign priority within ranks. In other words, if I am ranked 30/100 in my graduating class out of TBS, I will have a much lower chance of getting my first choice MOS than someone graduating 70/100 as within their third, they are ranked higher. Hopefully that makes sense. This is to ensure there is a solid distribution of the most talented Marines across each MOS and an unfavorable MOS doesn’t end up with the bottom of the class. This is to say that your ranking at TBS determines everything, and it has less to do with performance than it does strategically passing/failing tests to get to your ideal spot in the ranking.
I’m not sure your hesitation to dropping your netid and you totally don’t have to, but I promise it will be seen by no one except me and maybe one or two other contribs (and I’ll delete the message after I grab ur netid) and I’ll reach out ASAP! Hope this helped a little bit - I’m sorry my knowledge is limited.

Jushinki Pandora (ep. 1)
Wow, just...I feel shocked. I had super low expectations of this show when I heard about it. I was expecting loads of pointless exposition, horrible CG animation, and really bad science. I got only half of one of those things. This review is gunna get real rambly, real fast, but if you liked shows like Attack on Titan, or Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, give this show a try.
>Let me tell you about exposition for a few minutes, have you ever in real life had a conversation about how electricity has revolutionized how we communicate, or walked to the bus stop explaining to your friend how the internal combustion engine accelerated humanity out of the rural agricultural society of ages past into the urban metropolis we now call home? No. Ok well, maybe once, as like a joke, or a thought experiment, or you just saw a show about it on the History channel. Point is, most people don’t normally talk like that, they don’t discuss common knowledge for no reason, and yet this happens in so many shows and movies. When that revelation was dropped on me, I was pissed because now I notice it everywhere, and honestly it is just lazy writing. Characters don’t need to tell other characters that “In this world, magic is everything.” cause they live there so they should bloody know that! It’s dialogue that only exists to catch the viewer up to speed, and that’s lazy writing.
>So what’s all that got to do with Last Hope? Everything. Because Last Hope (so far) doesn’t do this. The only time exposition is directly explained to the viewer is a short, narrated overview of the situation the world is in and generally how it happened. It’s kinda like the bit in My Hero Academia where Deku explains quirks and Heroes to the audience, that part is key, it’s narration separate from the actual story that explicitly tells the audience “this is the one confusing thing that makes our world different, get it? Good, on with the show.” Back to Last Hope, character’s don’t talk about how “BRAI have hunted humanity to near extinction so that’s why we live in this run down shack.” “Yes but I have developed these anti-BRAI bug zappers so we are safe here.” Nah, fuck that, you know how they do that scene? The main character literally stands around outside buck naked, we get a wide shot of their re-purposed airplane home, and though Leon (the MC) does talk about the BRAI repellent, they mention it the same way we would casually ask if someone brought a citronella candle to the picnic, after that he’s just talking to himself about making sure it doesn’t short circuit and fail, only to stub his toe on all the junk he has lying around cause he was absorbed in thought. I just love this whole scene, from Leon listing off possible annoyances to him struggling to cook dinner, it does well to humanize him and Chloe in a humorous but believable way. I also like how the military guy (whose name escapes me) refers to Leon as “that one guy” until the end where he calls him by his full name, followed by “the man who destroyed the world”. Now I can hear you thinking “But isn’t that expository dialogue? Everyone should know that already, that’s just a cheap cliffhanger for the audience.” To which I say, is it common knowledge? A man who was exiled from the city (which is another great thing Leon’s adopted sister didn’t exposite about to him [and the fact they left their relationship implied was SO good {I’m getting off track, where was I?}]), the reasoning for his exile wouldn’t necessarily be common knowledge to most people outside of the government. And, it’s not used as a title of exposition, but a term of resentment, the military guy is making it clear he knows who Leon is, and will not be taking things lightly when dealing with him. This is good stuff. I could go on but I have other stuff I want to talk about. If you watch the episode with this in mind you’ll understand what I’m getting at.
>The science. I love science. I know a lot about it, so I was worried this show would just throw some science-y sounding words to seem smart to hand wave away what should just be magic. But honestly, it holds water, it was relatively accurate. The Quantum Generator? That’s a real thing designed by Tesla, and yeah, maybe we could build a big one in a decade or two, I buy that. Go look up a video on QEGs, and while you’re at it, look up quantum computers too, cause Leon’s Multidimensional Attack makes some sense too, sorta, we’re getting into magic territory, but it looked cool af, so I’m ok with it. The evolutionary field though? Looks like we’re playing fast and loose with the concept of mutations and evolution, but if I can accept X-Men mutants having basically magic powers for no reason, I can let this one slide too. Hopefully the hand waving is kept to a bare minimum and the writers actually do their homework.
>Leon is great. He’s a genius, but he’s not perfect. He’s a klutz, he struggles with cooking because he over analyzes the process, and he’s a terrible pilot. Let me say that again for the ones in the back, THE MAIN CHARACTER OF A MECH ANIME IS NOT A NATURAL THE FIRST TIME HE’S SHOWN PILOTING! He flails around, unable to dodge slow hits, other characters comment about how he pilots like an amateur, the only reason he is able to defeat this giant enemy crab is cause if the hyperdrive, which I can only assume will be a consistent deus-ex-machina to save the day, I don’t mind this but I really hope they show him learning over time how to be a better pilot because of this, struggling cause he over thinks it, but getting better as he comes to understand the “human element” his calculations lack. Cheesy? kinda, but that’s ok if it’s done well.
>The 2D animation is really nice. I like the look of the characters, locations like Leon’s home and the military command center feel right (lived in and familiar/oppressive and orderly respectively). The CG though...ok, I get why it’s being used, it gives the BRAI an unnatural, otherworldly feel, and for the most part it works, but the 3D model quality looks kinda dated at times. It’s not like, Berserk 2016 bad, but Pixar this certainly ain’t. The transformer mechs are kinda cool, if not superfluous. Why do they need to transform? Why not have different classes of mechs? Some that drive like tanks on steroids, ones that only fly and have to conserve power so they don’t just fall out of the sky, human shaped ones for melee combat or using massive cannons as if it were a rifle. Why do they all have to have hands and turn into cars and motorcycles? Just seems like a waste in this post-apocalyptic world where I can only assume resources are limited. That being said there are some shots, like Leon in the hyperdrive mech facing off against the giant enemy crab, that look freaking amazing. It can be done show, make it work.
Man I’ve been ranting for so long and I still have stuff I didn’t go into, like the one bounty hunter who keeps his cat in the cockpit with him, or the crab upgrading itself mid-fight even though it was already winning, GAH! Go watch this show, it’s dumb fun that knows how to be smart and was made with a degree of care and detail usually only seen from big name studios/directors.

Come On Home: 6/6
After the war, Locus ends up spending his days on Hawaii, where he meets Kai and Grif. Nothing will ever be the same.
And here we are at the end!
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me since the start of this project; I have been blown away by all of your comments and affection. And particularly special thanks to @a-taller-tale, who has been my wonderful beta for the duration of this project and has been super supportive and helpful.
I'm thinking about playing a bit more with this universe; the limited POVs I've been using in the main story means that some things get brushed over, and I'd like to explore that. But we'll see where things goes!

Also on Ao3
“Hey brat,” Felix says, and he’s fast, shit, because Kai’s pinned against the wall with his knife against her throat before she can even go for her gun. She doesn’t carry her rifle around these days, because it scares her business partners, but she’s still got her pistol at her side, but she’s not even sure it would do her any good. “God I’ve wanted to do this for years,” he says, and fuck, he definitely has a knife kink, this is not good.
“Get off of me!” Kai tries to shove him off, her heart hammering in her chest. Is Sam here? What the fuck is Felix doing here, what does he want? The knife digs against her throat and Kai feels tears welling up in her eyes. She doesn’t want to die, fuck, fuck, fuck, this sucks and not in the fun way.
“Shut up and listen, fuck I forgot how annoying you are.” He’s not paying attention to her, she realizes, and starts slowly reaching for her gun. He likes the sound of his voice, he likes that she’s afraid, so she tries to stay afraid, keeps her breath all short and doesn’t stop her tears. “Your ‘brothers’ are causing me trouble, so if you want to keep breathing, you’ll behave and follow me.”
Kai’s fingers are wrapped around the handle of her gun, and it will take a second to move it into place and shoot him, but—
“Dex and Sam?” She says, and she doesn’t have to fake the tremor in her voice. He knows where they are? It’s been years and years and years and he just walks in here like this, knowing where they are, and—and well, it’s hard to think about other things after that.
“Yeah, we’re going on a trip!” He’s mocking her, but she doesn’t even care, numb as she is with the knowledge that her brothers are okay and together. She barely even spares a thought that they haven’t come to her, because clearly, they’re in some deep shit, otherwise Felix wouldn’t be in her living room, monologuing like a fucking B-Movie villain. “Sam’s apparently missed your fatass brother so much he was willing to leave me to go hang out with him, so I figure if I have you, he’ll come running right back where he belongs.”
Kai lets go of the gun and moves her hand away from it, so he won’t realize what she had been trying to do.
He’s going to take her to Dex and Sam. She can handle the rest. He’s still thinking of her as a scared little girl who locked him in the bathroom, who hadn’t even called the police when he tried to break into her house. But Kai’s not a kid anymore; she’s a fucking badass space marine, and she started her own corporation and she’s going to kick his ass.
Once he shows her where Sam is, duh. And then she’ll kick Sam’s ass. And maybe Dex’s for good measure.
He drags her to the pelican, which he’s parked in the VIP parking space she’s had set up for the Club, because apparently he’s not just a kidnapper, he’s also a double-parking dick. While he’s doing that, he takes her gun from her, laughing as he realizes she was armed. “Who lets you have a weapon? Honestly.”
Kai doesn’t say anything, just makes sure she keeps crying, because he expects that and likes it so much that he doesn’t notice anything else. Because he doesn’t know her, not at all, otherwise he’d never have handcuffed her with the classic military grade cuffs, because pfff, Kai has been able to get out of those since she was seventeen. Even being in armor shouldn’t stop her; she and Tucker had played with them a bit, way back before they’d all left, and she has the record on escaping them. Last time, it had only taken her fifteen-point-three seconds.
Kai wonders if Sam will put a dent in Felix’s smug rat face for kidnapping her. She sure hopes so. Not that she’s not capable of doing it herself, but she thinks there will generally be a sense of satisfaction from seeing Sam do it.
Felix is a talker, and she wonders if that’s why Sam had started fucking him, just to see if he’d shut up. Because he never stops talking, and like, Kai gets talking a lot, she talks a lot, but there’s a difference between chatting and telling fun sex stories and talking just to hear the sound of his own voice, and Felix is so far over the line for the second one that he can’t even see it.
Sometimes, Kai really has to wonder about Sam’s taste in guys.
When he’s in the cockpit instead of bothering her in the back, she escapes the cuffs over and over again, trying to make her time better. She wants to be able to book it the second she can; there’s no need to take risks. Felix is fast too, and he won’t care about hurting her if he catches her trying to run away, so she needs to be sure she can make it when she runs. She should probably wait until she can see someone she knows, who can take her to Sam and Dex, but that seems like a long time to wait, plus Felix will probably have a gun on her.
She still has the codes to the old Blue Team radio channel, so if Dex is near wherever it is that Felix is taking her, that probably means Tucker and the guys (and maybe Tex?) are there too, and she’ll be able to find her brothers that way, right?
Kai puts the cuffs back on with a sigh, tired from trying to work out her escape plans. Handcuffs are so much less fun when there’s no one around to play with, or without being worked up already. And she’s not gonna get herself worked up with her bro’s creepy ex around, because ew, ratface.
She sighs, and resolves to find someone hot the second she gets to wherever they’re going. Maybe Tucker would let her handcuff him and play; he was pretty into that back in Blood Gulch. Or Tex; that could be a lot of fun, unless she and Church are exclusive. Kai had never thought to ask. And after Tex had left, asking Church just seemed tacky. Kai knows a lot of people thought that she’s rude, but even she isn’t that rude.
To pass the time, Kai plays up the little kid act, complaining about being bored a lot and singing “three billion bottles of beer on the wall” until he threatens to chop off her fingers. She also makes sure to ask him if they’re there yet a lot, just for kicks.
Finally, they get to wherever it is they’re heading. Kai listens as Felix starts playing with the radio as soon as they land.
“Vanessa! Good to hear from you,” he says, and wow, he sounds even more like a scumbag than usual. Kai wouldn’t have thought it was physically possible, and yet here he is, sounding like he’s a used dildo salesman. “Listen, I’d love to chat, but you know, I think you should put Locus and Private Grif on the phone. I’ve got something they really should hear.”
“Locus is in custody,” and holy shit, there go Kai’s panties, because that woman has the hottest fucking voice Kai has ever heard. She wonders who exactly is on the other end of that line, because whoever she is, Kai wants to either do unspeakable things to her, or to let her do unspeakable things to Kai. Although actually, Kai would be more than happy to speak about it. She’s rapidly developing a list.
“If you say so,” Felix says, clearly disbelieving. “Just Grif then. Tell him I’ve got a present for him.”
There’s a long pause on the radio, and Kai strains forward, trying to listen. Why is Sam in custody? Why is the woman using Sam’s stupid war name instead of his real one?
“What the fuck do you want?” Kai nearly cries when she hears Dex’s voice for the first time in ages. She knew the UNSC had been full of shit! He’s okay, he’s here, and even though everything sucks, she’s feeling a lot better about everything.
“Get Locus on the phone,” Felix says.
“Yeah, not happening. What the fuck do you want?”
“Hey Kaikaina!” Felix calls over his shoulder. Kai hears Dex’s sharp intake of breath. “Pick a finger you’re willing to lose, because if your big brother doesn’t get Locus in the call in ten minutes, things are going to get messy!”
“Fuck you!” Kai screams as loud as she can, hoping it carries through the radio to Dex, and whoever else is listening. “Just cuz you can’t find a prostrate doesn’t mean you need to go after my fingers!”
“Wait, what?”
“Kai!”
“Ten minutes, Dexter,” Felix says, apparently recovering from her insult faster than she’d hoped. “You’re wasting time.” He hangs up, and gets out his knife and turns to stare at her creepily. Kai thinks he’s smiling, even though she can’t see his face. She should be happy, because his face without his helmet was an ugly little pointy thing with a smile that had too many teeth, but she doesn’t like it.
Kai was faking being scared a lot, but right now she really is scared. He’s looking at her like he’s hoping Dex can’t find Sam, like he’s just waiting for an excuse to hurt her, and she doesn’t like that. She’d never gotten the impression that he liked her, back home, but she’d never felt like this. He’s only gotten scarier since Kai’s grown up, and that’s just fucking wrong. She fidgets and looks away, counting the seconds in her head.
It only takes five minutes before Sam comes on the radio. “Felix,” he says, and Kai nearly wants to cry as she hears his voice for the first time in years.
“Locs!”
“Where is Kaikaina?”
“Right here with me,” Felix says, getting up and sitting down next to her. He casually presses the knife against her throat again. “Say hi, brat.”
“Sam?” Kai whispers. She kind of feels all floaty and shaky and scared but also happy all at the same time. She’s crying now, and she’s not faking it at all. “Is that really you?”
She hears a sharp exhale. “Yes,” he says. “Stay calm. It’s going to be okay.”
“Man, what a reunion!” Felix says, and Kai lets out a small whimper involuntarily as he grabs her helmet and shoves her head back against the wall of the pelican. Fuck, that hurts, and her helmet is flashing all sorts of warnings, telling her that she should check for a concussion. She’s not sure even getting free would help her right now, dizzy with the blow and with a knife against her neck. “I mean, it’s been… twelve years since you’ve seen her, Locs? You know, for a brat, she turned out okay. Real pretty.”
Sam lets out a growl. “What. Do. You. Want?”
“Control doesn’t know you’re gone yet,” Felix says flatly. “If you come back right now, they never have to, and your kid sister doesn’t start losing teeth.”
Sam exhales sharply. “You expect me to believe that?”
“I expect you to believe this,” Felix snaps, venom in his voice. “She doesn’t have a knife in her right now. That changes if you don’t come back to where you belong.” He laughs. “I get it, they’re important. Tell you what, as long as you can keep them quiet, I won’t tell Control they’re alive. That’s the part that matters right? The rest of this planet can rot, as long as they’re okay.”
Kai doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but she doesn’t like it, not one bit.
“I’m in custody of the armies,” Sam says. “They will not simply allow me to leave.”
“Fine. A trade then. Prisoner transfer, whatever you have to call it. Make it work, or we’ll see if she’s just as pretty without her head. Do you understand?”
“... yes.”
“Meet me at our hook up point in two hours,” Felix orders. “One pelican only—for every extra one, she loses a limb. You can bring Dex if you want—no skin off my back.”
He hangs up.
Kai tries to stop shaking but her head hurts where it hit the wall and her neck has started to bleed under his knife, and he’s going to hurt her, and Dex, and maybe even Sam, and nothing is okay, nothing at all.
He leans back, taking away the knife. “Don’t worry,” he says. “Locus just needs to relearn his place. He’ll keep you safe, and I’ll let him, as long as he stays where he belongs.”
Kai swallows, her mouth dry, and moves as far away from him as she can.
The two hours for Sam to arrive takes forever, and Kai can’t calm down at all during it, because she has no idea what’s going to happen. Sam won’t let Felix hurt her, she’s sure of that, but the rest of it…
She has no idea.
When Locus had surrendered, he had few illusions about what would happen next. If they let him go, it will be under close watch, and only because there is a task he is specifically required for.
He’s spent hours laying things out for his interrogator; a rebel woman he does not recognize personally, although he’s fairly sure he’s heard Felix complain about her before. But Felix complained about so many people that it is hardly noteworthy, and the woman herself seems mostly unremarkable.
She’s not in the room at the moment; either briefing the Generals or eating or sleeping herself. Agent Washington and Agent Carolina have both taken turns, asking him questions, specifically about the interests Control had in Project Freelancer, or what happened with Dex.
Dex has not come to visit him, but Locus suspects he is not permitted.
His armor has been taken from him, and Locus feels bare and vulnerable without it. He doesn’t know the last time he had gone this long without armor—perhaps not since Hawaii. But it’s worse than it was then. Now, there are plenty of people here who have every reason to put a bullet through his skull, and it would even be deserved.
He swallows down the waves of nausea that threaten to overwhelm him and puts his head between his knees, breathing heavily. He knows they’ll be watching, knows they will see this weakness, but he cannot bring himself to care right now. It is this or he tries to scratch at his skin until it all comes off.
It’s as if he had been keeping a wall up between himself and the things he had done, and now they’re all bearing down on him at once, and each incident reshaping itself into a new context.
He deserves whatever will happen next, and a thousand times more besides that.
He hopes Dex will not blame himself for this.
He’s not sure how much time has passed when he raises his head up again. He tries to regulate his breathing, to mediate, but he finds it hard to remove his mind from the cell, waiting as he is for Martinez to return to his cell and resume the questioning.
Instead, there’s a loud noise.
“Captain Grif!” It is Vanessa Kimball. Locus blinks slowly, wondering when Dex got promoted.
“Shut up, I need to see him, now!” There’s urgency in his voice.
“Let him through, Kimball,” it’s Lavernius Tucker speaking this time, just as frantic as Dex. Something is wrong. Something is very wrong indeed. “Please.”
Doyle is the one who speaks, after the silence. “Very well.”
The door opens and Dex barrels in, holding his helmet in his hands. “Get on the radio,” he says. “Church, you’re recording, right?”
“Fuck, yes, okay, I’m ready, we’ve got this.” The Epsilon AI flickers into sight, before blinking out again, moving towards the helmet.
Locus takes the helmet from Dex, frowning. “What is it?”
“Felix has Kai,” Dex says, and everything goes still and cold. It feels like his heartbeat can be heard by everyone in the room, beating a tempo, loud and fast, against his ribcage. “He wants you on the radio.”
Locus swallows, and puts on Dex’s helmet. “Felix,” he says, and he’s all too aware of everyone else in the room—Lavernius Tucker is here, joined by Vanessa Kimball and Doyle, Agents Washington and Carolina, the Sergeant—who is apparently now a Colonel—and the rest of Red Team. Richard Simmons is hovering near Dex, concerned.
“Locs!” Felix sounds manic, delighted. That’s always a dangerous sign. The radio is broadcasting, not contained to the helmet. Everyone is hearing this.
“Where is Kaikaina?” Is she alright? He doesn’t dare ask it, but he knows Felix can hear it.
“Right here with me,” Felix says. There’s a sound of movement, and then he speaks again. “Say hi, brat.”
“Sam?” Kai sounds older, so much older, but still the same, and the taste of bile rises in his throat. She’s really here, with Felix, in danger, because of him. “Is that really you?”
Yes,” he says, trying to keep his voice steady. Dex is gripping his shoulder tightly, and with him in armor and Locus without it, the grip is bruising, fingers digging into his shoulder. “Stay calm. It’s going to be okay.”
“Man, what a reunion!” Felix is practically singing, and there’s a loud, ugly sounding thump, and Kai lets out a pained noise that makes Grif’s hands tighten further still around his shoulder. “I mean, it’s been… twelve years since you’ve seen her, Locs? You know, for a brat, she turned out okay. Real pretty.” There’s a threat there, a threat that Locus refuses to think about.
Locus doesn’t often try to be intimidating; it tends to come without trying. But now he wants Felix scared, so he lets out a growl, which makes half of the Simulation Troopers jump back. “What. Do. You. Want?”
“Control doesn’t know you’re gone yet,” Felix says, and Locus reels. He hasn’t reported this? Why not? “If you come back right now, they never have to, and your kid sister doesn’t start losing fingers.”
Everyone in the room is staring right at him. “You expect me to believe that?”
“I expect you to believe this,” Felix says, and Locus knows the sound of him bargaining, knows where to listen to when he’s bluffing, and he’s not, and that makes it all the worse.
Locus lowers his head, struggling to keep breathing. Vanessa Kimball’s gaze is scorching. Simmons has taken Dex’s hand and is holding it.
“Meet me at our hook up point in two hours,” Felix orders. “One pelican only—for every extra one, she loses a limb. You can bring Dex if you want—no skin off my back.”
He hangs up. Locus takes the helmet off his head and sets it down on the family with a thump.
“Where’s he talking about?” Agent Washington is the first to speak.
“There’s an abandoned New Republic base in the middle of the Scherzo Jungle,” Locus says automatically. “It was halfway between the New Republic headquarters and Armonia, so we would meet there when we needed to meet in person.”
“Two hours out?” Agent Carolina’s arms are crossed.
“Almost exactly,” Locus confirms.
“Then we better get going!” Lavernius Tucker says.
“We can’t just let him leave,” Vanessa Kimball speaks with a quiet authority, and Locus closes his eyes.
“He’s got my sister,” Dex snaps. “We’re not just going to let him—”
“Captain Grif,” she says quietly. “By his own admission, he only switched sides to save your life. If we let him go back to Felix, when Felix has a hostage—who is, again by his own admission, the only other person he cares about—he’ll immediately resume what he was doing. You are asking us to let a—a—”
“I believe mass murderer would be the appropriate word in this situation, General Kimball,” Doyle says, his own voice icy. “You are asking us to release a mass murderer in order to save your sister’s life, when, by Felix’s own admission, he might harm her anyways once Locus returns to him.”
“He’s offering to trade your sister—who has no connections to Chorus besides you and Locus, for a criminal.” Kimball says.
“He won’t trade her,” Locus says. Even to his own ears, his voice sounds distant. “He intends to keep her to ensure I remain.” And he knows that Dex will try to follow him, surrendering willingly to keep Kai safe and giving him a second hostage to use against Locus. How had he not seen this coming? He should have—there should have been some precaution he could have taken, to ensure that this did not fall down on Kai.
“No one’s saying he should actually go back!” Tucker says, throwing his hands into the air. “We tricked Felix once, didn’t we?”
“Ha! And as much as I might hate to compliment Grif by proxy, his sister isn’t exactly helpless!” The Sergeant laughs loudly. “Why, it wouldn’t surprise me if she’d give Felix the slip the second he gives her the opportunity.”
“We could capture him!” Simmons speaks up. “Hey, he’s just told us where he’s going to be! We could turn it against him!”
“Fuck yeah!” Lavernius Tucker punches the air. “We could totally use this!”
Kimball and Doyle look at each other. Locus feels very cold. Mentally, he tries to calculate which of them will stop him, should he try to escape. He cannot allow Kai to pay for his mistakes. Such a price is unacceptable.
“Fine,” Kimball says, finally. “We capture Felix. Locus can be the bait.” She turns to Agent Carolina. “You take his camouflage unit. If it looks like he’s planning on leaving with Felix… I expect you to stop him.” Her voice is hard. “No matter what, Locus cannot go with Felix. Do you understand?”
Carolina nods without hesitation.
“One pelican,” Washington says, thoughtful. “Grif, you’re flying. Carolina’s in stealth. Tucker, you’re coming too.”
“And me,” Simmons speaks up, sounding terrified but standing firm. “I’m coming too.” He still hasn’t let go of Dex’s hand.
No one objects, although there are several people who don’t wish to be left behind. Doctor Grey is also recruited, in case Felix has lied and Kaikaina is hurt. They’re going in with the intention to rescue her, above all else, and something about that is calming.
Locus puts on his armor, minus one camouflage unit, and gets into the pelican. He’s handcuffed once he sits down. They can’t take the risk that Felix and he have a code, that he’s been told to kill any guests beyond Dex. Dex is flying, and Simmons sits up front with him.
Agent Washington sits across from him. His gun is out, but he’s not pointing it at Locus. Not yet, at least. That will change soon, Locus suspects.
Because there is almost no chance that only the five of them will be able to capture Felix, not when Felix has a hostage that incapacitates at least himself and Dex. It could easily become three against three, if Felix plays his cards right. He wonders if this has occurred to Washington yet.
He tries to figure out what Felix’s game is here, what exactly. He wants Locus back... by his side? So he can kill him? Perhaps he intends to break him, to kill Kai and Dex to free Locus from his weaknesses. Distance had worked, it seemed, for a while, but re-exposure had opened those old wounds, those vulnerabilities, and Dex had pressed himself right back into his life, reawakening who he had been, before everything had gone wrong. Before he had left, before he had killed the girl to save Felix, before he had nearly killed Felix while sleeping. Before Locus had surrendered to the numbness, to Felix, allowing himself to be manipulated, to be consumed, to be an unthinking, unquestioning weapon. Dex had brought him back from that. Perhaps Felix thinks that if he simply gets rid of him and Kai, things can go back to the way they were.
The knowledge that Felix might have tampered with the mission, might have sabotaged it on purpose, changes nothing. He had still made that decision, had chosen Felix over the life of the innocent child.
Felix’s hand in his actions didn’t change his culpability. He could have gone back, could have found them, might have been able to save them from this, all of this.
And now, Kai is paying for his decisions.
“We’re almost there,” Carolina says. She walks over, and removes the handcuffs. She tilts her head. “If we don’t rescue Kaikaina or to capture him, will you go with him?”
His heart hammers in his ears as he tries to imagine that—life with Felix, doing their old work, but with an eternal threat to Kai and Dex hanging over his head. Any semblance of control that he’d ever had, gone, broken and pliant to Felix’s demands. Felix wouldn’t allow him to see them either; kept away, only knowing how they were when they were being hurt to punish him for noncompliance. Perhaps he’d be allowed to visit as a reward, but only rarely. And now, with the veil lifted from his eyes, to see the horrors he was causing, without any of his old excuses or justifications or ability to distance himself from what he’s done…
It can be nothing but hell. A hell for all three of them, a hell that will consume all of Chorus, and everyone Dex and Kai—everyone his family cares about. And that is if Felix intends to keep them alive. He might simply kill them both on the spot, to ensure that Locus has nothing left. Nothing except him.
Two scenarios, equally bleak and hopeless.
“No,” he says, and he means it. He doesn’t point out that she intends to kill him if he tried to. It seems crude, almost.
The pelican lands, and the door opens. Locus swallows, and moves.
Felix’s pelican is right across from where they’re landing, and Felix is there, holding Kai by the elbow. Her hands are cuffed behind her back, and she’s in bright yellow armor. Locus wants to reach out for her, feeling out of breath. She’s grown. It’s been twelve years since he’s seen her, and there hasn’t been a single day that’s passed since that he hasn’t missed her, but to be reunited now, like this, is painful beyond words, in a visceral way that only Felix could manage.
“You were almost late,” Felix says. It’s a lie, but Locus says nothing.
“Let her go,” he says, without hope.
Felix laughs. “Don’t be dumb. Get in the pelican. Then I’ll let her go.” The lie is obvious as he jerks his head. He sees Washington and Simmons, standing at the ready, and tugs Kai in front of him, moving a knife lazily to her throat. “C’mon,” he laughs. “Let’s not make this harder than it has to be.”
Dex is the one to move first, pushing past Locus towards Felix and the pelican. Without thinking, Locus lunges forward, pulling him back. “What are you doing?” he hisses, trying to keep his voice too low for the others to hear. He’d have thought that Simmons would have been able to keep him back.
“We’re not letting him hurt her,” Dex says. He can tell just as easily as Locus that Felix intends to keep her. And, like him, he can’t help but doubt Carolina and Washington’s abilities to bring down Felix. Felix has always been unbeatable. Locus can clearly see his entire life now, and the constant is that Felix always gets what he wants. “The two of us are getting in that fucking pelican, do you hear me?”
Locus nearly goes numb at that, nearly lets go, nearly does what Dex says. Following orders—it would be so easy, so simple.
But he can’t let that happen. Maybe he can’t rescue Kai from Felix’s grasp, but he can at least not give Felix another person to hurt, to use against him.
“No,” he says, trying to put a semblance of authority into his voice. “You’re staying here.”
Felix laughs. “Oh, c’mon Sam,” the name is wielded like a whip, and Locus recoils, but he manages to keep his grip on Dex. “Let the kid tag along. It’ll be fun. We can talk about the good old days—like, y’know, on Hawaii!”
“You were barely even there, asshole!” Dex says, tugging on Locus’s grip.
“Was I? I was this close to being your new stepdad, too!” There’s a feral grin in Felix’s voice, mocking them all.
“Wait,” Grif says, slowly, like he’s just realized something. It’s a gut punch, as the last piece falls into place. Locus wonders how he had not seen it earlier. The boyfriend. The one who had dragged them into debt, the one who had caused the ruin of everything. Of course it had been Felix. What little Locus had managed to build, all those years ago Felix had ripped up by the very roots. He had poisoned the first scrap of goodness that Locus had managed to find after the war, out of spite or cruelty or a desire to see Locus as a weapon for him to use.
“That’s right!” Felix crows, and Locus wonders how long he has wanted to say that; Felix hates having to keep quiet about his accomplishments, and this is surely one of his favorite games. “I fucked your mom!” Felix laughs and laughs and laughs as he lowers the knife from Kai’s throat. But he keeps her in front of him. A human shield.
Locus sees a glimmer of camouflage out of the corner of his eye and he’s struck by fear—Carolina is a professional, and as Vanessa Kimball said, Kai means nothing to her or the armies. She is supposed to take down Felix. He’s about to move forward, to give her another target instead of Kai and Felix, when someone else moves first.
It’s Kai.
With terrifying strength, she rips Felix’s hand off her arm, and kicks him right in the groin so that he’s sent stumbling backwards into the pelican. The cuffs fall to the ground—she’s slipped out of them somehow—and she throws herself forward, onto the ground, out of the way.
Suddenly, the entire world seems to slow down.
“You little—!” Felix screams, trying to scramble forward, but it’s already too late. His protection is gone, and he had, in his flare for the dramatic, chosen to wield a knife instead of a gun. It’s all the opening they need.
Simmons, Washington, and Carolina all open fire on Felix, raising their weapons in perfect unison. Locus has seen a few glimpses of their abilities to work as a team; and here, he sees it with the three of them, a single unit, focused on their target.
There’s the sound that Locus knows so well; bullets puncturing through armor, flesh, and bone. A ragged scream pierces the air, familiar in that Locus has heard screams like it a thousand times, but different because he has never heard Felix make a noise like that. He once might have thought it impossible; Felix has always seemed strangely invincible, untouchable, compared to Locus, who took the brunt of their fighting, and had nightmares that never seemed to even brush by Felix. But Locus doesn’t watch as his partner dies, because he’s staring at Kai.
The second the guns stop firing, she’s on her feet, and she’s charging forwards, towards them, throwing her arms around both of them, laughing. “You’re here! You’re here! You’re here!”
The three of them sink to the ground, arms around each other, and Locus feels something damp on his cheeks as he hugs them tightly, unsure of when he’ll be able to let go.
“Ha! I knew I’d be able to get out of those, totally worth it, when he said he knew where you were I knew it would be okay,” Kai is babbling, but Locus doesn’t say anything, although he’s mentally flinching at Kai’s implication that she allowed herself to be captured to find them.
She pulls back, breaking the hug, and shoves at him. He falls to the ground, barely catching himself to keep his head from slamming against the rock.
“You dick! You left!”
“I know,” Locus says. “I’m sorry.”
Letting out a loud sobbing noise, she throws herself on top of him. “Worst—big—brother—ever,” she sobs, and Locus can only pat her back and hold her.
Later will find the three of them in a single room in Armonia, knocking elbows as they eat food that Dex has prepared, watching bad science fiction while the war continues to wage on. Hargrove brings in more men, new leaders, new resources. An agreement is struck with Doyle and Kimball; a delay to Locus’ trial in exchange for his assistance in the war for the duration of it.
The war is still brutal; Hargrove is furious, and pours resources upon resources onto the planet, intending to destroy everything in his path. But with the information that Locus has managed to recover and the joint force of the armies, Hargrove will lose, they are confident in this. It might take months, maybe years, but there will be victory.
Locus will attempt to intimidate Kai’s potential partners, she and Dex will mock him about Washington and avoid talking about Felix, and Locus and Kai will attempt to understand Dex’s burgeoning relationship with Simmons.
There will be arguments and nightmares and tears. It will be far from perfect; Locus lost any chance of that when he left, so long ago.
But it is home.

10- Plain Speaking
Last installment was the sad story of Garrett’s demise. as we found out last time Klint is the villain, this week we get a small window into what he’s been doing. Hope you like it! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The abandoned GM plant in Lansing was fully lit and hummed with production. The parking lot was as empty as it ever was. Inside up-to-date robots and conveyors stretched from end to end of the plant floor. No employee walked the floor but production continued on at full speed. The body assembly area had been completely re-purposed creating machines of variable shape and size. Inside the main office two humans sat chatting. A man and a woman, the man wearing a suit with a scarf, his hair slicked back, he stood tall and slender. His hands clasped behind his back looking onto the production floor.
“I just don’t understand. Why do they resist? Why do they not see the truth and power of my knowledge?”
The woman laid out on a couch with a GameCube controller in hand playing Super Smash Bros. Melee. She had picked fox and moved frame perfect quickly eliminating the bots she was matched against. She was very slim and stood about six inches shorter than the man. She paused her game and smiled at him. “Cause Klint, nobody could possibly be as smart as you, they can’t see the world how we do.” Her tone was slightly sarcastic. The inflection and rhythm of her speech matched exactly with how Kevin spoke. “Besides, who cares we have each other. Don’t let those other people bring you down.”
“They are slowing down progress though!” smashing his fist against the wall as he turned back to the woman and crouched down to match her height “I want to make the world perfect for you Emma. I want us to live in a place where people actually value knowledge, and will take the time to learn what they don’t know, and we can have productive arguments among educated people.”
Emma reached out a hand and ruffled Klint’s hair “You shouldn’t do your hair like this, it makes you look like an anime villain, besides I think you look cute when it's just natural. Anyway, Does it really matter that much? Maybe some people should be allowed to just screw off. You know we made it this far without everyone being perfect”
Klint smiled and kissed her. He pulled out a phone and tapped a few buttons. Emma turned back to her game and began playing again her serious game face returning. Klint sat down at a desk and popped up a projection, a map of North America. He let out a deep sigh before speaking again. “OK let's review what has happened so far.”
Emma paused her game again and stood up “Oh sweet, we can really list out just how great I am at this...and how...OK your plans were.”
“Hey, I spent years crafting this plan, if it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t be here. Give me some credit at least.”
“Yeah yeah, just remember who the best is while we do this”
Klint extended an arm, pointing this his finger, “yellow” he spoke clearly, marks appeared on the map. He began shading in the Midwest.
Emma struck a comical pose learning backwards and extending her arm out, her hand shaped like a gun. “Red” she closed one eye “bang” Red marks splattered across a large portion of the south and west. She then opened her hand keeping her fingers together “fwoosh, schwing schwing” she made large lines cutting through almost all of Canada.
Klint finished filling in the east coast and shook his head. Before he could say anything Emma poked him. “See, look at my part, it's like thirty-five times bigger than yours”
“I’ll give you three maybe…”
“No way! Its definitely more than three”
“Calculate area as percent, yellow against red”
On the projection a display popped up “27% yellow 73% Red” Emma put her hands on her hips and puffed out her chest “See, you got wrecked”
“That isn't three times, sooooo”
“Doesn’t matter I still beat you so hard”
“I’m not wrong though. Besides I highly doubt your drawing is accurate, how can you even know you covered that much area and mine that isn’t overlapping with yours”
Emma sighed “Whatever Klint I don’t want to sit here and argue with you about this. Let's get to the next part”
“Green” Klint slowly drew a line starting from Portland as it moved east the line widened, splitting off at a few points. It ended just east of Omaha. He then moved over to the east coast. He began shading in near DC extending to the coast and a few cities south. The calculation still on display now showed “21% Yellow 60% Red” “These areas and that fucking internet troll account for the resistors.”
“Ah, that troll. I kind of love that guy. He's fighting for the people”
“Yeah but what is he really defending. He may be enlightened himself but he fights to defend a world of idiots sharing unverified information on the internet?”
“You gotta it admit, even if it is dangerous, The internet is really fun sometimes”
“Yeah but are those fun times worth it?”
“I think so, if you have a truly unrestricted platform like that, sure maybe it allows for some people to circulate in their stupidity, but it also opens paths for great-” Klint pressed a button on his phone and Emma fell silent.
She walked over and calmly sat down in Klint’s lap as he continued on. “The recon probes I’ve sent out show in the east a small military force has survived. They are going to be a problem. But when we have finished manufacturing the auto-tanks, we should be able to wipe them out pretty quick”
“Yah know, if we just went with my idea and waited to launch the virus until we had weapons built you wouldn’t have to deal with this uprising”
Klint playfully tickled her sides “Oh you are so smart aren’t you, you predicted that some military brat would survive.” His voice changed to a more serious tone “But waiting would have been too risky, you think I could have operated this plant when everybody was just living their day to day lives?”
“...yeah. It's an abandoned building nobody has been in this thing for a millions of years until we came along”
“I just think the likelihood of someone catching us coming in here was too high”
Emma sighed “OK, I don’t care, your plan didn’t work. So obviously there were better options”
“No but seriously, how could we have pulled it off?”
“Klint. I don’t care.”
“Alright alright, this line in the west though, that is what has me concerned.”
“Ah yes the ‘all of our hard work undone by seemingly normal people’ line”
“Yes… How the fuck are these people surviving. Most of the cities are stable, nobody is rioting or murdering each other, no zombies within their city limits. It just doesn’t make sense!”
“Maybe they stopped the zombies using the power of positivity” Emma jumped out of the chair and pointed to the ceiling “They never gave up hope and they took all of your silly survival calculations and threw them out the window! They made the impossible possible”
Klint laughed off the idea “Oh yeah, that thing Kevin was always going on about, how any human has the potential to be truly great if they believe in themselves”
Emma tilted her head “Who is Kevin?”
Klint looked at her with a confused expression “I’ve told you about him before. He is like you, but you know, a guy.” Klint paused for a second his voice now becoming somber “He was my best friend before the outbreak”
Emma wrapped her arms around Klint “Don’t worry, well get to see him eventually Right? When we meet him Ima destroy him in smash bros. If he is just like me a bet he’s pretty good”
Klint looked at her for a moment “yeah… yeah I’ll get to see him again. But I just don’t know if he’ll ever be the same.”
He took another deep breath “What do we do about this green line?”
“Well we can’t just march out there and tell them ‘give up, kill yourselves!’ So we just have to keep watching the recon reports until we figure out how they are doing this”
“You are right, there has to be something logical to explain what is happening here. I’m just really surprised people are surviving out there without structure. I figured most women didn’t really have the skills to survive in the wild”
“Why does it have to be women?” Emma turned to look at him, her face a few degrees away from rage.
“Well a lot of girls just aren’t really brought up to have skills you’d need, yah know like hunting, making shelter stuff like that”
“Oh and guys are any different. Don’t most of you just sit around playing video games or jerking off”
“Hey now, plenty of guys still learn those skills though, even if it is just recreational”
“Tell me Klint” Emma put her hand gently under his chin “Who cooks dinner every night, me or you? Who would do that for you without society?” Klint turned to his phone again and the conversation ended.

A Special Message From Dr. Hein
Astonishing “Insider” Secrets To Get Direct Access to Your Natural Intelligence and Hidden Super Powers. Break Through Your Limitations To Achieve Unlimited Mental and Intuitive Insight. Does It Really Work? Is Remote Viewing A Scam? Here’s What You Need To Know.
Your time is limited so I’ll make this quick.
Over ten years ago, I took an 8-day class in “remote viewing.” You know, this was the top-secret “Black Ops” program developed by the Defense Intelligence Agency in the 1970’s to create a cadre of psychic spies for the military. It was classified “Top Secret.”
The American military community and intelligence services wanted a way for anyone, especially ordinary people, to be able to tap into their minds and get access to “distant” information in foreign countries and the like. Now we’re told it was used by our government for more than 20 years. A little over ten years ago, the program was declassifed and the protocols revealed to the public. But did it really work?
Is This Fringe Science?
I was curious and had a chance to take a viewing course with the full procedures that the military had used. And it wasn’t cheap. The course I took cost over $3,000 for just eight days of training in 1996 dollars. Sheesh! And coming from an academic background with a Ph.D. in sociology and as a former statistics teacher, I didn’t even think it would work. I thought you had to be special or something like. But I was so curious, I plunked my money down and went off to take the course.
And I was wrong. It did work.
At first I didn’t believe it. Was it a scam or a trick of some sort? Well, honestly, the results weren’t perfect but they will were still extraordinary. Really. So how was it possible?
Is This For Real?
The truth is, I never thought it would work, at least not for me (I’m naturally sceptical). I was almost hoping it wouldn’t work; my mind wasn’t ready for it. But it did. And within a few days, I was accurately drawing and describing hidden pictures I was only shown after I finished writing and drawing. I was stunned.
But it wasn’t just me. Within a short time, everyone in the class was viewing and viewing accurately, as if they were born natural psychics. It was astonishing, but we did it. And so can you.
Dr. Simeon Hein with Ingo Swann, founder of modern RV, at the 2002 IRVA Conference, Austin, Texas
And That’s When Things Get Started To Get Strange . . .
And that’s when the weirdness started. Folks started contacting all sorts of stuff. You know: ghosts, ETs, even things I can’t name. But we all learned a lot. Our universe contains all sorts of life in it, and soon we were interacting with it. That’s another story. (I talk about ALL of this in my Opening Minds bonus audio book and downloadable eBook mentioned below both of which you get free with your membership.)
But beyond the weirdness, something amazing was happening. We were learning to use our in a completely new way. To tap into a hidden part of awareness to achieve apparently “super human” feats of perception and awareness. And it appeared that anyone could do it.
Mental Mind Magic
The truth is, you can do this too. You just have to know the special secrets of resonance nobody ever wanted you to know about. Not your teachers, parents, authority figures or any else. And since I learned those secrets over ten years ago, my life has never been the same. And now, I’m committed to teaching you these same techniques that have worked so we well for me to everyone else.
Extensive research shows that almost everyone has some degree of remote viewing ability. So, yes, YOU TOO CAN DO THIS. Extensive statistical research commissioned by the U.S. Congress, showed that remote viewing gets at least eight-percent more information than is explainable by chance. Wow! That’s like having a permanent, built-in advantage and ability to get more information in any situation, any time you want it. And I want to show you how to easily and effectively access this innate, super-charged source of information.
Look. It’s simple. This system is based on carefully tested and researched military techniques, When I first took this course, it was the most revolutionary thing I ever experienced. And I want you to get the same benefits I’ve gotten from remote viewing; better intuition, improved mental clarity, and much greater confidence in your gut feelings.
However, this online class is VERY different and VERY powerful. If you’re not ready for a real challenge, this is not for you.
I guarantee this will be one of the greatest mental challenges you’ve ever experienced. And you’ll get HUGE benefits out of it and tremendous personal insight. Period. So if you are ready to turbocharge your personal growth and self-understanding this is your chance! It’s like an aerobic workout for your mind that will get your perception and access to your subconscious mind as fit as a fiddle.
“There is nothing like a viewing class with Simeon to help you tap into your full potential. Highly recommended.” –Lorraine Moller, Olympic marathon runner, medal winner and author.
“Simeon far exceeded my expectations. This class was just terrific! We made PHENOMENAL target contact. It was wonderful.”–Elisa Brown, musician and vocalist (comments from live NYC viewing class)
Do You Want To Tap Into Your Full Potential?
Like me, you probably don’t think you can do this. But recent studies have shown that our subconscious minds store a lot more information than is available to our conscious minds, on the order of 1,000,000 to 1! Wouldn’t it be great if you could access all this “hidden information” that’s lodged somewhere in your mind.
Well, now you can. Easily, spontaneously, and naturally.
Look, I wouldn’t have spent all this time putting this together for you if I didn’t think you would get a lot out of it. I did this is for you. And the truth is, you can do it. I’ve put together my best tips, tricks, and techniques from over ten years of teaching and research to help get the most out of this online class. I’ve trained with some of the best remote viewers in the world and now I’m sharing all the knowledge with nothing held back.
Take a look at some of these examples and see for yourself. With a little training, you can learn to do this too, wherever you are. Take a look below to see some RV drawings from TOTAL BEGINNERS (the photos were completely hidden from them):
You Too Can Easily Learn to View: In 5 Simple Steps!
“Remote viewing gave me to confidence to go into the unknown and come back. It’s astonishing!”–Ron Russell, artist and lecturer
“This was a wonderful, fun, mind expanding course. Simeon is a wonderful sharer, with a light touch.” – R., Boulder, CO
“Your course is extraordinarily fun. Not pretentious, not aloof, just right on cue with what is pertinent for one to have a better understanding of RV. Thanks.” –Sandy S.
“Your Remote Viewing course is awesome!”— Mary T.
“Dr Hein’s virtual viewing class is a blast! It showed me a whole new way to use my mind.”–Melissa C.
Sharpen Your Intuition, Learn to Trust Your “Gut Feelings“
Your biggest benefit from ths online class will be increased communications with your subconscious mind resulting in more holistic thinking and better decision-making. You’ll know more about other people and new situations by learning to trust your gut feelings. You’ll make more money by making better business decisions. You’ll have a sense of what’s “coming down the road” before it even gets to you. (And when it comes to unleashing your creativity, this stuff is pure gold.)
You’ll learn so much about yourself every time we do one of these sessions together, you won’t believe it. You’ll feel invigorated, refreshed, and renewed every time. You’ll feel alive again. Because you are using all of your senses!Remember, we’re in this together AND the class is guaranteed to work for you or you’ll get all your money back and you get to keep all the class materials! That’s how confident I am that this will work for you.
Now the truth is, not everyone can can or will use these techniques properly. And in some rare cases, people won’t be able to do this at all. (I’ve only encountered a few.) And honestly, I’m not interested in teaching this to just anybody. And if you are one of those, for whom these techniques for contacting your subconscious mind won’t work, or you don’t like it, or your just not interested, or anything, you’ll get a full, complete refund.
However, if you are ready to visit the secret caverns of your inner mental wisdom, the treasure trove of your Super Mind, then let’s get going.
As Seen and Heard On All These Stations
Easy to Learn–Just Watch The Videos And Follow Along!
I’ve created this online class to teach you everything you need to know. It’s all included here. I’ve used this method with thousands of people all over the world including Japan and England, and the United States, and it just works. The video and audio modules in this online class are designed to be completed easily and conveniently, at your pace. I’ve designed everything to be super easy for you to use.
Like “Rocket Fuel” for Your Creativity
I’ve never seen anything like Virtual Viewing for enhancing your creativity. It works wonders by getting you in touch with your “right mind,” the part of your brain that is a storehouse for creative thinking, the bastion of your imagination and connection to your “higher mind.” Virtual Viewing is like rocket fuel for your voyage into the world of greater intelligence, deeper creativity, and sheer brain power.
You’ll start off with the basic video and audio learning sequence. You’ll learn how to move your awareness around in space and time, with no limits, “visiting” and sensing anywhere you like! It’s like having your own private spaceship, letting you travel where you wish at a moment’s notice.
You’ll enjoy the benefits of enhanced intuition and more spontaneous decision making. Plus, if you go on to more advanced levels, you’ll get to go where few have gone before. It will feel like being an Intergalactic Ambassador.
Here’s what you’ll discover:
“It is such a joyful process, nothing to fear, everything to gain.” -J. Los Angeles, CA
“Virtual viewing is like having a new pair of eyes with ‘X-ray vision.’ Information I had always wanted to know was revealed through the virtual viewing techniques. Virtual viewing allows your own mind to function beyond the capabilities of any technology we currently have available. Dr. Hein is an amazing teacher and communicator his meticulous attention to the details of this process make this an absolute must for anyone who wants to succeed in life.” — Teri, Certified Hypnotist, owner/director of ConsciousWellnessNow.com.
Experience the Awesome Power of “Whole-Brain Thinking”
You may have seen that recent movie with George Clooney, where those military guys learn all these psychic tricks including walking through walls. Well, honestly, I can’t promise that you’ll be able to to anything like that by the end of this course or ever.
However, I can guarantee that you’ll have much more awareness, sensitivity, and depth of perception than you ever had before. Your “vision” will be clearer. You’ll “know more” without evening knowing how. It will be like activating a whole, new “mind” that you never new you had!!!
Go On Your Own Cosmic Voyage
The secret to viewing is called “non-local awareness,” and everybody has it! All it takes is a little practice to discover your hidden, inner abilities. And soon you can be viewing anything, anywhere whether it’s in your immediate location or on the other side of Mars or the Milky Way. (In fact, research has shown that the viewing process gets more accurate the farther you are from the target source.)
Secrets THEY Don’t Want You Know
One of the main challenges of the viewing process is how to know the difference between the psychic signal and mental noise. That is, the REAL signal from the matrix and your own mental chatter. In this course, I’ll teach you how to recognize the tell-tale signatures of each and how to let go of mental noise and free your mind to perceive the true signal source.
After a while, you’ll be your own “psychic detective” knowing how to tell the difference between real viewing signals and your own imagination. And it gets better from there.
Experience the Natural Magic of Resonance
There is no other way to put it: the viewing process can feel like magic. Maybe it is. You are capable of drawing and describing pictures, locations, and people you have never seen before. The information almost emerges mysteriously, as if you had a hidden genius in your mind, just waiting to serve you.
You’ll really discover just how truly intelligent you really are. You’ll begin to feel like a finely-tuned car. Can you really afford not to be running on all cylinders? Take action now and activate your natural superpowers.
“I loved this course; I did not know human beings were capable of this. Everything was a learning experience that I am grateful for. I confronted my inner self and am more whole because of this experience . . . Very powerful and truthful . . . ” – D., Greeley, CO
This Course is NOT for Everyone
This course is definitely not for everyone. We’re only looking for open-minded and adventurous people with a committment to learning something new. The viewing process is different in each person so there’s no way to know ahead of time how fast you’ll learn. But learn you will. You need to be self-motivated, disciplined, and willing to give it a go. You must be in good mental and physical health.
And if you scare easily, this is certainly not for you
. And if you are looking for some type of instant magic trick, this is definitely not for you. Don’t buy this course. I mean it.
This the real deal.
I’ll do everything I can to keep your experience safe and pleasant, but I have no way of knowing how your particular mind works. So please don’t apply if you are not ready for a vigorous mental and energetic challenge.

Here’s What Students Said of Dr. Hein’s Previous Viewing Trainings:
“Simeon is a very informative and open-minded teacher.” – A., Boulder, CO
“I think you do a great job. It was potentially intimidating and ‘performance-fear’ ridden, but you made it very comfortable and non-judgemental. And natural.” – R., Santa Fe, NM
“I like the way the course stretched my mind and made me go into ‘non-think.’ I became aware of how very controlling my conscious mind is, and how very important and essential it is to learn how to release that control. I really liked the introductory part which explains how it all works. I like being involved with Resonant Viewing because it is cutting edge stuff. Everyone can and should develop this faculty. I really liked Dr. Hein’s upbeat, positive attitude, the encouragement he offers . . .” — A., Palm Springs, CA

So if you are ready to turbocharge your personal growth and self-understanding this is your chance! It’s like an aerobic workout for your mind that will get your perception and access to your subconscious mind as fit as a fiddle.

Well, now you can. Easily, spontaneously, and naturally.
