Update?
I’m going to talk about wakes/funerals/family drama below the cut, so please be advised.
Oof.  The wake and funeral were horrible.  On top of it just being so, so sad, my father and his mother were at the wake, and he was at the funeral.  It was awful.  His mom treated it as, like...  A social outing?  She's lonely.  But it was so bad, because I saw my grandmother in the casket and started crying, and she... tried to talk to me?  Like, just about herself and her life?  While I'm bawling?  She's not all there mentally, so I'm trying to be forgiving about it, but geez.  Then she just... went around to all these mourning people, talking about herself and her life and stuff.  And my dad cornered me and talked about his latest thing, which is buying kitchen gadgets and never using them (a continuation of buying camping gear and never using it and those little D&D figures and never painting or playing with them).  And he stood behind my cousin while she prayed/said goodbye at the casket talking about how in other cultures they keep the body in the house while it decomposes and stinks up the house (his words, not mine).  He never did offer condolences or ask how I'm doing...
His mom wasn't there the next day at the actual ceremony/burial, and he was soooo much worse.  First, when the priest invited the family to talk about grandmom, he said, "Well don't make me do it," after an approximately 0.5 sec pause.  I literally moaned, "Oh, god," like it just slipped out- again, I'm already crying, there was a lot of crying involved.  So he gets up before any of grandma's kids can and makes a speech, god I hate him.  Then he sat down and my uncle, who had planned to say something from the start, said his thing.  After that there was a pause, and the priest said even if it's hard, it's better to tell your story if you can, so I tried.  It was about how one time when I was a little kid sleeping over and sharing Grandmom's bed, she was praying and I asked what she prayed about (not knowing that that's kind of a personal question, lol).  And she said she prays for lots of things, but for granddad and their kids and grandkids most of all, and how we love her so much because she cared so much about all of us.  And I paused at one point to gather myself, because I felt like I would cry- it was like a three second pause, nothing massive- and then my dad gets up, walks across everyone, and puts his arm around me like I was an eight-year-old bawling and starts like whispering in my ear, and my whole face went red and it was the worst, and I rushed through my already short thing while my husband is death-glaring and mouthing stuff like, "Stop, stop, she doesn't want help."  And after the funeral, while I am again, crying, he puts his hands on my shoulders, blocking escape, and says, "A little voice told me to help you, you did fine but you were too fast-" and I just said, "Excuse me," and broke free and went to blow my nose and my husband just stood between us and I actually wanted to hit him.
Then we went to Grandmom's house, and he bought some soft pretzels and kept saying, "Anyone want an Amish pretzel?  Mmm, pretzels!  Pretzels!" for like ten minutes and I could hear him from grandmom's bedroom, where I went to just...  Be quiet for a few?  And he just kept talking over everyone.  And he said, "You all left me hanging and made me talk at the funeral!"  And an aunt said, "My brother was trying to go."  And everyone was really curt and like...  Had physical "go away" body language, like sitting with their back to him and stuff.   And there was all this other drama because there is a brother who went away as from the family as soon as he could and was into drugs and alcohol and crime and apparently did a bunch of shady stuff no one wants to tell me about (stuff like asking for money from my grandparents his whole 60 years and living with siblings and never paying rent and using all their stuff and consumables is the most anyone would tell me), and they hated him?  I've only seen him twice in my life before this.  It was very awkward and tense.
Meanwhile, at the dinner between wake sessions, my far right aunt was talking about...  Conspiracies the whole time.  Someone named Q and how Trump pointed at him and he secretly runs the nation from Twitter???  And she kept talking about how liberals are pedophiles?  Something Men and Boys club something something and I'm like...  Oh my God, please don't talk about pedophiles at my grandmother's wake dinner?!?!?!?  And she took one look at my bag (one year my Grandmom asked what I wanted for Christmas and my birthday, and I told her and my mom I wanted this cat bag, so they both gave me money for both events and I bought the bag with a coupon) and was like, "Kate Spade's suicide was ACTUALLY A MURDER, blah blah conspiracy" and I'm like, "...Hi Auntie???"
And today I found out that an old coworker, a single dad with twins in middle school, passed away, and I feel like I can't take any more.
I’m off the next few days for bereavement leave and the Fourth, but I just...  I’m so lost and sad and bereft and angry, I don’t know...  I’m trying to do normal stuff like play video games, but I can’t seem to focus on it.  Hopefully I’ll wander back into a better emotional state soon.  I think the wake and funeral were actually counter productive to that end.
I miss my grandmother so much.

June 6th, 2018 Our outfit of the week is in alignment with the talk of the town.Yesterday several fashionista friends reached out to me to share the sad news of Kate Spade's passing.  I'm lighting a candle for her now, and while my heart goes out to her family I thought of the somewhat disappointing changes made to her company and clothes over the last few years and moved on with my day...Then one more conversation in the afternoon with Jenna (a collector of Kate's bags - one featured here) and I started realizing how many ways this woman has been a part of my life.  I started remembering how I felt when I first found her pieces.  SO COLORFUL! SO PRETTY! SO SMART, so well articulated... You catching this?!  She is the inspiration for vocabulary in many many ways.   I once gave a gift to my now husband of images that told the story of our first year together all cut from my first Kate Spade calendar which I could barely afford but certainly could NOT live without.  This collage still hangs on our wall today. He bought me a party dress from her for Christmas one year and it is one of my ALL TIME favorites! She used cotton faille, no one uses cotton faille-and they SHOULD! She (and her team of course) taught me how to instagram before instagram.  How much story could exist in an image.  She made playful adult, she allowed color to be cool, and used a woman's wit to showcase her products, instead of her breasts!!!  Ladies, she was groundbreaking, and while I ate it all up and recommended my clients do the same, I didn't exactly realize all that she was providing.  She created space for fun to be a part of our everyday life, while mixed with class and intelligence.  This, at a time when many many women are walking around with "juicy" embroidered on the bottoms of their many velour track suits, which is also fun & adult but at a slightly different vibration. I have always been a fan of bows and sparkle, she did them well, and she invited me to wear them while writing an old fashioned thank you note to my grandmother with a colorful pencil at a desk, designed to inspire a cocktail party that would certainly ensue as the work day commenced, because it all matters equally and there is grace in every aspect of our lives. Kate Spade, merci! et champagne s'il vous plait! (and because I prefer the way "kisses" sounds in french)                            Bisous, Cecelia
Ps. The farmer's market has moved a block away.  Two great things about this: you can park much more easily on West Cedar Street when you head into vocabulary on Saturdays with less people in the fitting room all at once.  You can still easily pop in before or after grabbing your market goodies.  #WIN WINP
ps. Need a new spot in the 'hood?!  Nolita has opened and it looks, feels and tastes delicious!!!

Frosty Fridays
This past weekend was so good for my soul. Our family got away to The Colonnade in Boston’s Back Bay. It’s only about forty minutes from our home but it’s about as different as can be. I’ve traveled all over the United States and some of Europe and Boston still remains my favorite city. It’s unique in it’s history and walkability to so many different areas of the city.
This is as good as it gets… I’m wearing my absolute favorite PJs, which I put on the second were were done walking around for the day! They are a little expensive but I assure you, they were worth every single penny… they are super comfortable.
We got an adjoining suite and double room and I can’t even begin to tell you how great that was for our family. Four kids seven and under are a tricky package to travel with… especially when two of them are one year old twins. There is definitely no easier place to be than home but AJ and I remarked on multiple occasions that a suite is the way to do it when traveling with kids. I’m always concerned about our noise and if we are being too loud for the neighboring rooms but having a suite gave us a great buffer. Also thanks to a suite a full sized table in our room allowed us to nix fighting the dinner crowd and we brought dinner into our room (you know how it is with babies having melt downs and wanting bed!).  We did the same for breakfast the second morning (we walked to Panera the first). Without a doubt I’d shell out extra money for a suite again and save on going out to eat for every meal.
This was the view from our hotel room… hence getting food in.
Tumblr media
Right across the street from our hotel was the Prudential Center which has incredible shops (normal and incredibly high end), facing The Colonnade is Barnes & Noble so it was the perfect spot for me to escape to with the older kids while the babies napped. I told them we would get them something but it had to be either a longer book or a Lego set so it could be something that could occupy them in the hotel during down time in between exploring.
Drew loves Magic Treehouse books (they are great for kids K-3) and Elle chose a Lego Friends set which she could play for hours with. My Kate Spade bag is from Thred Up, one of my newest obsessions (it’s second hand and in PERFECT condition!).
Walking around one of my favorite areas of the city…
This is one of my favorite photos of the trip. Elle had just fallen in a giant mud puddle in the middle of the Public Gardens, right by this Make Way for Ducklings statue, and was freaking out.
The first night we were there they Bell Hop brought a cart up to our room with a charcuterie board and the most amazing spread of fruit and sweets. I almost started crying when I saw that… we had a really hard January (a significant fire in a rental, AJ’s grandmother dying, Gray in the ER, Elle with pneumonia and having to spend thousands and thousands to redo a good piece of our septic system after it backed up over our basement) and so being away from home and having this hotel staff, that had never met us, pamper us felt amazing.
This morning Vera was so loud in the hotel so I took her and Gray out for a walk so they wouldn’t wake all the neighboring rooms. The twins weren’t fazed with this morning’s rain (they were mostly covered) and we walked all around the Back Bay while few people were out. It was therapy to be in a new place during these cold and dreary winter months and be able to just leave the hotel and see all these great sights within minutes. (For all of you home decor lovers: RH’s largest store is a 1/4 mile from the hotel and H&M Home is about a half a mile!)
We were at the hotel for the Frosty Fridays package. You pay the temperature at 5pm on Friday night for your Friday rate (which would have made it $33 for the Friday rate) and $289 for Saturday. The Colonnade has a great hot chocolate bar (which was actually more like the drinking chocolate we had all over Paris) and with the rate you can either take a Old Town Trolley Tour over the city (it was a great way to see the city!) or get tickets to skate on Frog Pond in Boston Common (we were rained out for the Frog Pond skating today but are going to come back and do it again!).
Without a doubt we’d do it again… and maybe have the babies stay with my parents so we could do even more around the city with the kids. If you aren’t from Boston I can’t recommend The Colonnade and location enough, especially for February vacation!

More Touching Tributes For Kate Spade Come Rolling In — Including From Niece Rachel Brosnahan
how I looked younger without plastic surgery
The world continues to mourn Kate Spade.
As we reported, the fashion designer was found dead in her home on Tuesday from an apparent suicide. She was just 55 years old.
Following the crushing news, many celebs have spoken out honoring the businesswoman -- and now her niece Rachel Brosnahan (who you may recognize from Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and others like Lena Dunham and Mindy Kaling are speaking out, too.
Related: Kate Spade's Family 'Disgusted' With Her Sister
The 27-year-old actress shared a sweet video of her beloved aunt dancing with her husband, Andy Spade. Rachel posted:
Knowing Katy, this is how she would want to be remembered. She had a light that words can’t capture but touched everyone she came into contact with. She was exceedingly kind, beautifully sensitive, insanely talented, funny as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known. She was effervescent. Hug your loved ones extra tight today.A post shared by Rachel Brosnahan (@rachelbrosnahan) on Jun 6, 2018 at 4:32am PDT
Anna Wintour said in a statement:
"Kate Spade had an enviable gift for understanding exactly what women the world over wanted to carry. She launched her label at a time when everyone thought that the definition of a handbag was strictly European, all decades-old serious status and wealth. Then along came this thoroughly American young woman who changed everything. There was a moment when you couldn't walk a block in New York without seeing one of her bags, which were just like her; colorful and unpretentious."
Ch-ch-check out other stars who have shared their sentiments (below):

Designer Kate Spade Dead at 55
Kate Spade, of the sparkly iPhone cases and metallic ballet flats, has died. She was found in her Upper East Side home in Manhattan Tuesday morning, and the cause of death has been reported as suicide.
Her death is currently under investigation and we will update this story as more details become available.
Kate Spade began her career as a fashion editor at Mademoiselle magazine and prototyped her first handbag in 1992 out of construction paper. She launched her accessories line in 1993, with the help of then boyfriend, now husband Andy Spade. (Who also happens to be the brother of David Spade.) The legendary square ‘Sam’ handbag quickly became a best-seller and one of the ‘it bags’ of the 1990s. Within a decade, the Spades sold 56% of their handbag business to Neiman Marcus for $33.6 million. Currently, Kate Spade is owned by Tapestry, the parent company of Coach who bought the brand last year in a $2.4 billion deal.
Spade was known for her kooky heiress style, which was often reflected in her approach to designing accessories. A 2003 profile in Fortune magazine describes Kate as wearing “clunky vintage costume jewelry with a boxy fuchsia jacket” and looking like “Audrey Hepburn’s best friend.”
Often pink and often sparkly, Kate Spade accessories contain a sort of boundless optimism. They present a winking take on femininity that manages to be traditional and irreverent at the same time. More than anything, Kate Spade accessories are known as fun.
Her death comes as an absolute shock to the fashion industry and her presence will be dearly missed.
My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college. I still have it. Holding Kate’s family, friends and loved ones in my heart.

Kate Spade, designer who built handbag empire, found dead
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Kate Spade, the designer who built a fashion empire on her signature handbags before selling the brand, was found dead in her New York City apartment on Tuesday morning in an apparent suicide, police said.
Spade, 55, hanged herself and was found by her housekeeper at her home on Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the New York Daily News reported, citing unnamed police officials.
Born Katherine Noel Brosnahan, the Kansas City, Missouri, native was a former accessories editor at the now-closed Mademoiselle magazine before she and Andy Spade launched their namesake design company, Kate Spade New York, in 1993. The couple married the following year.
They began by selling handbags before expanding to include clothing, jewelry, bedding, legwear and fragrances.
The brand grew into a fashion empire, known for accessories that offered affordable luxury to younger working women. Her brightly colored, clean-lined style offered a spunky take on fashion at time when luxury handbags were out of reach to most consumers, and the industry was dominated by venerable European brands.
The couple sold the brand in 2006. In 2016, they launched a new fashion brand called Frances Valentine, which sells footwear and accessories.
Tapestry Inc, the handbag company formerly known as Coach, eventually bought the Kate Spade brand in May 2017 to tap millennials, who are drawn to the company’s quirky satchels and colorful tote bags.

The deal also turned Coach into a multibrand fashion house, a strategy that European counterparts such as Louis Vuitton have built their businesses on.
Kate Spade New York released a statement calling the news “incredibly sad.”
“Although Kate has not been affiliated with the brand for more than a decade, she and her husband and creative partner, Andy, were the founders of our beloved brand,” the statement said. “Kate will be dearly missed.”
The New York Police Department confirmed the designer’s death under her birth name. Spade’s business representatives did not respond to a request for comment.
Fans of the brand began posting pictures of their favorite handbags on social media in reaction to the death. Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former U.S. President Bill Clinton, was among celebrities to mourn Spade on social media.

“My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college,” she wrote on Twitter. “I still have it.”

NEW YORK | Spade remembered as vibrant and colorful, like her creations
New Post has been published on https://is.gd/ItcrS0
NEW YORK | Spade remembered as vibrant and colorful, like her creations
NEW YORK — Bright. Vibrant. Colorful. And, most essentially, fun.
The same words used so often to describe Kate Spade’s enormously popular handbags — “It” bags that were both aspirational and affordable — were an apt description of the woman herself, say many in the fashion world. And that only contributed to the sense of shock and loss in the industry upon hearing the news Tuesday that Spade had apparently taken her own life at 55.
“She was always just as happy and delightful as her collection was,” said Fern Mallis, industry consultant and former director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America during Spade’s rise to success in the 1990s.  “She was every bit the representation of that brand, and the fun of it all.”
Indeed, Spade had said it herself: “I hope that people remember me not just as a good businesswoman,” she told Glamour magazine in 2002, “but as a great friend — and a heck of a lot of fun.”
Spade was found hanged in the bedroom of her Park Avenue apartment Tuesday morning in an apparent suicide, law enforcement officials said.
Spade liked to say that she wasn’t obsessed with fashion, or interested in trends. She tried jeans, for example, decided they didn’t look good on her, and moved on. “I grew up in the Midwest, where you have to have (a fashion item) because you like it, not because you’re supposed to have it,” she told The AP in 2004. “It’s an adornment, not an obsession.”
And a Kate Spade bag was an adornment that was, crucially, affordable, unlike other iterations of “It” bags whose status seemed to hinge on the price tag. “It was a real shift,” Mallis said. “Everybody had Kate Spade bags. You could afford them, and happily buy more than one. They were affordable AND terrific AND fabulous.”
Having a Spade bag “was a sign that you were in the know,” said Eric Wilson, fashion news director at InStyle. “You associated yourself with this fun, cool, with-it, hip brand that wasn’t snobbish or so exclusive that it felt like a European luxury brand.”
And the bags seemed to effortlessly appeal to a variety of women. “She had a quirky visual language that captivated Bat Mitzvah girls and artists alike,” wrote actress Lena Dunham on Twitter. “She was also a staple of NYC who spread goodwill.”
Born Katherine Brosnahan, Spade grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She was working as an accessories editor at Mademoiselle magazine when she launched her company with husband Andy in their New York apartment in 1993, based on six shapes of bags she thought every working woman needed. She called them her “stepping stones” — and said years later that they were still her favorites.
As her brand expanded, “the fun, colorful, bright designs she created added an element of cheerfulness others have tried to emulate,” said Deidra Arrington, associate professor of fashion design and merchandising at Virginia Commonwealth University. “She was a visionary.” One obvious measure of her influence was the number of counterfeit Kate Spade bags one could find on the streets, Arrington said. “Most women remember their first Kate Spade bag. I still have mine.”
Indeed, on social media, many women were recalling their first Spade bag. “My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college,” Chelsea Clinton wrote on Twitter. “I still have it.” Jenna Bush Hager wrote: “I will never forget the first Kate Spade bag I got for Christmas in college.”
Spade was not only about bags: she would expand into shoes, apparel, luggage and other accessories, and stationery. “Everyone loves to get a letter,” Spade told the AP in 2006, explaining that she never used computers and had her staff print out emails. “I love sending them. I love getting them.”
Spade, who won multiple CFDA awards and was named a “giant of design” by House Beautiful magazine, walked away from her company in 2007, a year after it was acquired from the Neiman Marcus Group for $125 million by the company then known as Liz Claiborne Inc.
Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand last year for $2.4 billion. Spade and her husband — who is the brother of comedian David Spade — started a new handbag company recently, Frances Valentine.
Wilson, of InStyle, recalled often finding her in her store, helping shoppers. “Often I would walk in and I’d see her there serving customers, not telling them ‘I’m Kate Spade’ or Kate Valentine, her other alias, but just helping people,” he said. “I found her to be just down to earth, a normal mom, talking about the trials and tribulations of raising a child and life in the city.”
Mallis, the former CFDA director, noted that the stunning news of Spade’s death came just the morning after virtually the entire New York fashion industry had gathered at the Brooklyn Museum for the glitzy annual CFDA awards. “Nobody could have ever anticipated that the next day, this was the news that would be flashing on our phones,” she said. “You just never know the demons that people are dealing with.”
Outside a Kate Spade store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue Tuesday, Dorothy Ruderman, who said she was a fan of the designer, compared Spade’s death to that of Robin Williams, who hanged himself in 2014.  “You see someone who kind of made a career off of making people smile,” she said. “It’s sad.”

"In 2010, I was on a Vegas trip with my girlfriends, and I walked into the Kate Spade store at the North Premium Outlets and saw this incredible Kate Spade typewriter bag. Working as an editor at the time at a small newspaper, I thought it was perfect for me and had to have it. Although it was a major splurge at the time, I never regretted it. To this day, it's still my favorite bag ever." -- Antoinette Bueno, ET Assigning Editor

"I was in between my freshman and sophomore year at college (summer 2004). I was suffering from a major obsession with Sex and the City, watching downloads of the HBO series on repeat and spending what little money I had on whatever designer purses or shoes were on sale. While browsing the sale table at Saks Fifth Avenue with my grandparents (our favorite Arizona summer activity), I came across this wicker clutch with a pink strap that spoke to me and fit my budget. I bought it with my own money and felt incredibly empowered. This led to many other ill-advised designer purchases until Sex and the City 2 jolted me back to reality." -- Jen Cady, ET Executive Editor

"I was late to the game in owning my first Kate Spade handbag, but I had always obsessed over them from afar. A few years ago, I took the (financial) plunge by splurging on the baby blue Brighton Park Small Sloan bag. Before then, I had never spent more than $50 on a bag, but there was something about its classic, timeless elegance that spoke to me and made me feel good. To this day, I swear by Kate Spade and the jolt of magic it infused into my life. You definitely won't be seeing me without a Kate Spade handbag or purse attached at my hip!" -- Philiana Ng, ET TV Features Editor
"During one particularly challenging professional year, I was between jobs, taking tons of meetings and feeling pretty low about myself and the entertainment business in general. One day, I stumbled across a simple but stunning grey and white Kate Spade dress (on sale, but still a splurge) and thought to myself, 'This is the dress. This is the dress to get me the job. This is the dress I can wear for everything.' And it was. Money was tight at the time, but I paired it with a practical black Kate Spade handbag, and together, they made me feel like I could conquer the world. I wore that dress and carried that bag to meetings, on-air appearances, weddings, and even the night I got engaged. They are still two of my favorite pieces of all time." -- Sophie Schillaci, ET Senior Producer/Writer/Host

"This Kate Spade news has really gotten to me. I've purchased a few of her bags as a pat on my own back throughout my career. A TREAT, if you will, to celebrate a couple small victories along the way. There was something about her bags that made them the perfect fit for that type of occasion and sentiment.  At Christmas, my sister and I surprise each other with a small Kate Spade gift for one another... a wallet, a small bag. It's one of our 'things.' I'm heartbroken to know she was in so much pain, I hope she knew what her creativity meant to so many people. But suicide is never the answer." -- Katie Krause, ET Host/Producer

"Back when I was in middle school, we didn't have the internet quite like we do today. I'd beg my mother to take me to the grocery store with her just so I could catch a glimpse of the magazines at the checkout counter. I believe it was the Olsen twins who I spotted in a photograph, rocking the signature Kate Spade cherry-print purse/tote. I gushed over how unique it was to my mom, not thinking much of it. Imagine my surprise, when, a few months later, I was given the purse as a birthday gift. Not only was it on-trend and aesthetically beautiful, but I also felt mature, sophisticated and very grown up. Kate Spade's designs had that impact on me as a young woman, and my feelings haven't changed a bit today. A month ago, I was given a gorgeous Kate Spade ring holder when I got engaged. A week ago, I purchased a Kate Spade display tray for my ET colleague, Sophie (mentioned above), as a housewarming gift. Kate Spade is quite simply, timeless. Her legacy and designs will live on eternally." -- Deidre Behar, ET Host/Producer

A majority of the Kate Spade company, which began when Kate launched a line of handbags in 1993 with husband Andy Spade, was sold to the Neiman Marcus Group in 1999. Spade sold her remaining portion of the company in 2006, and Kate Spade  was recently purchased by Coach in 2017 for a reported $2.4 billion.
After leaving Kate Spade in 2007, the designer and her husband launched Frances Valentine — a line of shoes, handbags and accessories named after their 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade.

Inspired by Jewel Tones and the Most Beautiful Personalized Details
Infused with the most gorgeous jewel tones, watercolor and a pop of gold, this Texas celebration crafted by Two Be Wed is the perfect combination of beautiful design and sentimental details. From heirloom family jewelry to show-stopping floral installations by Blush and Vine and the sweetest gifts between the Bride and Groom, see how this wedding captured by Dana Fernandez really let the couple’s personality shine through.

From photographers (Dana and Josh) and Ashley Joseph (Two Be Wed)… I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this couple and their wedding! Betsy and Joel are definitely one of a kind! When we first met Betsy, we were one of the first vendors she booked besides her venue so she was still looking for the majority of her vendors. Almost everyone we suggested (which was based on a previous styled shoot we did that she loved), she ended up booking. She viewed every vendor as very talented and let each of us interpret her style board from Two Be Wed with our own take because she thought that we each could come up with the most creative ideas when there were minimal requirements involved. To say the least, each vendors’ end product was unique and beyond beautiful.
Betsy’s inspiration for the day were rich fall colors with pops of gold. She absolutely loved watercolor, calligraphy and florals. Also, Betsy and Joel are very sentimental and wanted their personalities to be shared with each guests as well as what they wore and gave each other on their wedding day. Betsy wore a custom engraved gold cuff with their wedding date as well as heirloom pieces from her grandmother (rings and bracelet). In addition to these, she had pictures of her family that had passed, each individually framed in small frames that were tied to her bouquet. Joel created custom patterned ties for himself and his groomsmen with his being extra special with their wedding date sewn into to the back of the tie. As for their gifts to each other, they each secretly consulted with Nib and Pixel to create a unique gift with their vows to each other incorporated. Since Joel loves cigars, she had her vows custom written and engraved on the lid of a humidor. Along side some cigars for Joel to enjoy on the wedding day, she had custom labels wrapped around cigars for Joel for major milestones of their life (wedding day, first home, first child, anniversaries, etc). Joel’s present to Betsy was a custom hand drawn 4 foot banner with a space to thread a rod so it can hang in their new home together.
Since they had a lot of out of town guests, each one received a welcome bag with information about Texas and was filled with all of their favorite snacks and goodies. In addition to each guest having their name laser cut for their escort card at their seat, they each were given a “midnight snack” box with Topo Chico (Betsy’s favorite), Coke and their favorite popcorn.
As for the reception, since both Betsy and Joel do not drink alcohol, they had a custom coffee bar set-up and had not only 1 but 3 total cakes. One of my favorite surprises was the gift that Betsy’s father gave Joel. When Betsy was a child, her father gifted her a heart necklace and at the reception, her father gave Joel the matching key, which he had been saving for Betsy’s future husband.
Overall, Betsy and Joel and their families are some of the best around and the amazing custom details was the icing on top for one of our favorite weddings to date!
