ZIM vs IRE 2nd ODI Match Prediction Ireland tour of Zimbabwe 2025
The Ireland tour of Zimbabwe 2025 is heating up, and cricket fans are eagerly awaiting the second ODI between Zimbabwe (ZIM) and Ireland (IRE). After a dominant performance in the first match, Zimbabwe will be looking to seal the series, while Ireland will be desperate to level the score. Let's delve into a detailed ZIM vs IRE 2nd ODI match prediction, analyzing the teams, key players, and match conditions to give you an insight into what to expect.
Tumblr media
Zimbabwe's Dominant Start
Zimbabwe showcased their prowess in the first ODI, securing a convincing victory. Their batting lineup proved formidable, with Brian Bennett delivering a stunning century and Craig Ervine providing crucial support.
The bowlers also played their part, restricting Ireland's chase with disciplined spells. Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of the bowlers, his four-wicket haul dismantling the Irish batting order.
Ireland's Need to Regroup
Ireland will need to regroup quickly if they want to stay alive in the series. Their bowlers struggled to contain the Zimbabwean batsmen in the first match, and their batting lineup couldn't build partnerships to chase down the target. Paul Stirling, the Irish captain, will be looking for his team to show more resilience and execute their plans better in the second ODI.

Key Factors to Consider
Pitch Conditions: The Harare Sports Club pitch is known to be challenging for batsmen, offering some assistance to the bowlers. The team winning the toss might opt to bat first and put pressure on the opposition.
Head-to-Head Record: Historically, the head-to-head record between Zimbabwe and Ireland has been quite competitive. However, Zimbabwe's recent form gives them a slight edge.
Key Players: Keep an eye on players like Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams from Zimbabwe, and Andy Balbirnie and Harry Tector from Ireland, as they can significantly impact the game.
Match Prediction
Considering the current form and team composition, Zimbabwe appears to have a slight advantage going into the second ODI. However, Ireland is a team capable of bouncing back, and they will be eager to prove their mettle. The match is expected to be closely contested, with both teams giving their all.
Possible Scenarios:
Scenario 1: If Zimbabwe bats first, they will aim for a total around 280-300, which could be challenging for Ireland to chase.
Scenario 2: If Ireland bats first, they will need to post a competitive total and hope their bowlers can restrict Zimbabwe's strong batting lineup.
Where to Watch
The ZIM vs IRE 2nd ODI will be broadcasted and streamed live on various platforms, including FanCode. Check your local listings for more details.
Conclusion
The second ODI between Zimbabwe and Ireland promises to be an exciting contest. While Zimbabwe will be confident after their first win, Ireland will be determined to make a comeback. Cricket fans can expect a thrilling encounter with both teams fighting for every run and wicket.

Zimbabwe 299 for 5 (Bennett 169, Ervine 66, Adair 2-55) beat Ireland 250 (Campher 44, Muzarabani 4-51, Ngarava 3-56) by 49 runsBrian Bennett delivered a Valentine Day's gift to all the cricket lovers at Harare Sports Club with a sublime 169 to set up Zimbabwe's 49-run win in the first ODI against Ireland on Friday.Promoted to opener for the first time in ODI cricket, Bennett struck 56.52% of Zimbabwe's total to give Ireland a target of 300 to chase. Along the way, he also became the fourth-youngest to score 150-plus in a men's ODI and posted the fifth-highest ODI score by a Zimbabwe men's batter. The target, though, on a docile surface, was quite gettable, and Ireland went toe-to-toe for most of the chase. But they ran out of wickets - including four dismissals in their last ten deliveries of their innings - to fold for 250. Blessing Muzarabani (4 for 51) and Richard Ngarava (3 for 56) shared seven wickets, and Zimbabwe arrested their four-match losing streak to take the hosts 1-0 up.A 9.30am start with rain in the air, and Harare historically favouring chasing sides, Ireland captain Paul Stirling made the logical call of bowling first. But Josh Little, the left-arm swing bowler, had a rough return to the ODI line-up as he conceded 35 runs in his first three overs. Bennett was the chief aggressor, pumping him for six fours in his first three overs, while Ben Curran carved another couple. He would eventually finish on 1 for 75 in nine overs with an economy of 8.33, conceding 11 fours and five wides in all.The prolific start, and the lack of incision from the Ireland new-ball bowlers, allowed the Zimbabwe opening partnership to grow. They put on 95 for the first wicket before offspinner Andy McBrine (1 for 53) broke the stand. There was no respite, though, as Bennett and the No. 3 Craig Ervine then added 136 in 134 balls in a second-wicket stand that was constructed masterfully. They were watchful through the middle overs with some turn in the pitch and the pair of Matthew Humphreys and McBrine appeared to strangle the pair.Craig Ervine and Brian Bennett added 136 off 134 balls•Zimbabwe CricketWhile Bennett took an affinity towards point, extra cover, deep midwicket and deep square leg with his 20 fours and three sixes, Ervine was more adventurous by moving across and trying to find empty pockets over fine leg. As the stand grew and Zimbabwe's run-rate got a boost, Bennett too played with the Ireland bowlers by using the width of his crease to create boundary-scoring opportunities. The pair capitalised on three dropped catches and one missed stumping to bring up Zimbabwe's 200 in the 38th over, and a big target was very much on before Ervine fell against the run of play to medium-pacer Graham Hume in the 41st over. Sikandar Raza and Wessly Madhevere, though, failed to keep the momentum up, and the big shots came from only Bennett's end in the final ten. After batting for 216 minutes, Bennett perished in the final over trying to find a big shot, and his effort ensured Zimbabwe finished on 299 for 5."I was pushing them for a while to get up [to open], and happy to get that opportunity," Bennett said after the game. "I just wanted to watch the ball and hit the ball. It's a very good sign, and I hope to do that again on Sunday. I wanted to take it deep as one of the set batters among the top four."The chase began inauspiciously for Ireland as Andrew Balbirnie was caught behind off Ngarava in the first ball but the rest of Ireland's batting unit showed enough promise that the chase could be pulled off, only to lose their wicket when the tide appeared to turn. Stirling was deceived by a Muzarabani short ball to fall for 32, Curtis Campher edged a wide ball from Raza to the keeper on 44, Harry Tector scooped Madhevere to fine leg on 39 and Lorcan Tucker inside-edged Muzarabani onto his stumps on 31.At 169 for 6 in 35.2 overs, Ireland's chase appeared to lose its fizz, but an eighth-wicket stand of 73 in 9.1 overs between George Dockrell (34) and McBrine (36) brought life into the game and started to make the home crowd nervous. However, Ervine turned to Muzarabani for the 45th over, and he picked off both set batters in the space of four balls, and Ngarava wrapped up the tail in the 46th for a tame finish to a high-octane game."We gave Bennett a chance or two and he made us pay," Stirling said after the defeat. "We were rusty [in the field] when we shouldn't have been. I felt 50 runs was the difference between the two sides and the result reflects that. [A target of] 300 was chaseable, and at 30 overs we were in the hunt. But we lost our way. We bat pretty deep and hopefully we do well with the bat next game."Sreshth Shah is a sub-editor at ESPNcricinfo. @sreshthx

Sikandar Raza is unavailable in the one-time Test match against Ireland
When Zimbabwe Cricket announced the squads for the multi-format series, they stated that Sikandar Raza will not be able to play in the one-off Test match against Ireland next month. Raza will miss the Test match, which is scheduled for February 6–10 in Bulawayo, because he had already committed to franchise cricket before the tour schedule was confirmed.
However, Raza will be able to participate in the white-ball phase of the series, which will begin with the three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) on February 22, 23, and 25 after the three ODIs on February 14, 16, and 18. Harare will host these six matches.
After veteran all-rounder Sean Williams was deemed fit for the Test and ODIs, Zimbabwe gained momentum despite Raza's absence from the red-ball match. The 38-year-old was having trouble with a back issue during the series, despite smashing a ton in the opening Test match against Afghanistan.
Legspinner Vincent Masekesa and batsman Nicholas Welch, who have not yet been capped, have been chosen to replace Dion Myers and Tadiwanashe Marumani in the Test team. Myers has kept his place in the T20I team, but he and Joylord Gumbie have been dropped out of the 50-over format as Wessly Madhevere and Nyasha Mayavo have replaced them.
Test squad: Joylord Gumbie, Trevor Gwandu, Vincent Masekesa, Nyasha Mayavo, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Victor Nyauchi, Nicholas Welch, Sean Williams, Craig Ervine (C), Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Ben Curran, and Joylord Gumbie
ODI team: Wessly Madhevere, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Nyasha Mayavo, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Ben Curran, Trevor Gwandu, Craig Ervine (captain). T20I team: Wessly
Madhevere, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Nyasha Mayavo, Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Johnathan Campbell, Trevor Gwandu, and Sikandar Raza (capta).

Afghanistan defeats Zimbabwe in the series after Rashid's career-best performance.
Zimbabwe 243 (Ervine 75, Raza 61, Rashid 4-94) and 205 (Ervine 53, Rashid 7-66, Zia 2-44) were defeated by 72 runs against Afghanistan 157 (Rashid 25, Raza 3-30, Nyamhuri 3-42) and 363 (Rahmat 139, Alam 101, Muzarabani 6-95).
Tumblr media
Rashid Khan had to be the one. He was the standout of Afghanistan's last three Test victories in Dehradun, Chattogram, and Abu Dhabi. In Bulawayo, he dominated Zimbabwe with a match total of 11 for 160. Expectations of an exciting conclusion were dashed just 15 deliveries into the final morning, including career-best figures of 7 for 66 in the second innings. Craig Ervine was Zimbabwe's captain, and his team was 73 runs from winning. To end the match, Afghanistan needed two excellent balls.
However, there was enough drama in the brief play on the sixth day. Afghanistan got the day off to a perfect start when Rashid bowled to Richard Ngarava, Zimbabwe's number ten. Afghanistan nearly achieved their goal four balls into play. At silly moment, the ball appeared behind Rashid after Ngarava attempted to slice him. He shifted to his right and put Hashmatullah Shahidi at cover. At one point, Fareed Ahmad moved to his left.
Shahidi dropped Ngarava, his focus split between the dipping ball and the oncoming Fareed. Rashid was unable to contain his rage at his captain, who had extended both hands but the ball had never stuck. Ngarava lived, but not for very long.
To guarantee Ervine had the strike for the next over, Ngarava did play out the final two deliveries of the over. He had a wide field to work with because he was the final recognized batter and started with an overnight score of 53. Ervine declined two singles before deciding to take the third. Yamin Ahmadzai was only almost three-fourths of the way to the boundary when he was driven towards deep extra cover.
Chasing the ball forward, Shahidullah retrieved it and sent it flat to the wicketkeeper. Ngarava took off late, possibly not anticipating Ervine to try for the run so early in the over. With Ngarava miles short, wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai whipped the bails off, but Ervine was already well down the pitch.
Blessing Muzarabani, the last man, defended the following two deliveries while ignoring the third. Since Zimbabwe had not yet added to their overnight total, Ervine struck for the following over once more. Rashid pitched it substantially fuller the third time after going short for the opening two balls. Ervine botched a sweep attempt, and the ball landed just outside off, spun in, and hit him in front.
Even though umpire Ahsan Raza's finger took a little to appear, Rashid and his teammates immediately went up. Despite the initial impression of the ball missing leg stump, it did in the end. But the Afghanistan players were dancing and cheering because there was no DRS to resort to.
Although it took a little for umpire Ahsan Raza's finger to appear, Rashid and his teammates immediately went up. Although the initial impression was that the ball was missing its leg stump, it did in the end. The Afghanistan players, however, were left to jump and celebrate since there was no DRS to resort to.
Afghanistan thus departed Zimbabwe with a series victory in all three forms and won the two-match series 1-0 following a high-scoring tie in the first Test.

Afghanistan 157 (Rashid 25, Raza 3-30, Nyamhuri 3-42) and 363 (Rahmat 139, Alam 101, Muzarabani 6-95) beat Zimbabwe 243 (Ervine 75, Raza 61, Rashid 4-94) and 205 (Ervine 53, Rashid 7-66, Zia 2-44) by 72 runsIt had to be Rashid Khan. After starring in each of Afghanistan's previous three Test wins - in Dehradun, Chattogram and Abu Dhabi - he wrapped Zimbabwe up with a match haul of 11 for 160 in Bulawayo. That included career-best figures of 7 for 66 in the second innings, with expectations of a thrilling finish being quashed only 15 deliveries into the final morning. Zimbabwe were 73 runs away from victory, with all hopes from their captain Craig Ervine. Afghanistan needed two good balls to finish the game off.But even the short span of play on the fifth day was enough for plenty of drama. The day started with exactly what Afghanistan wanted: Rashid bowling to Zimbabwe's No. 10 Richard Ngarava. Four balls into play, Afghanistan got exactly what they wanted - almost. Ngarava skied an attempted slice off Rashid, and the ball popped up behind the man at silly point. Hashmatullah Shahidi, placed at cover, moved to his right. Fareed Ahmad, at point, stepped to his left. With his attention divided between the dipping ball and the approaching Fareed, Shahidi dropped Ngarava. Rashid couldn't hold back an angry expression towards his captain, who had stretched both his hands out, only for the ball to never stick. Ngarava survived, but for hardly any longer.Ngarava did play out the remaining two deliveries of the over to ensure Ervine had the strike for the next. Starting on his overnight score of 53, and being the last recognised batter, he had a spread-out field to play with. After turning down two singles, Ervine decided he should go for the third. He drove Yamin Ahmadzai towards deep extra cover, where the man was placed only about three-fourths of the way to the boundary.Shahidullah collected the ball while chasing it forward, and fired a flat throw at the wicketkeeper. Perhaps not expecting Ervine to go for the run that early in the over, Ngarava was late to take off. But Ervine was well down the pitch by that time, and wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai whipped the bails off with Ngarava miles short.Last man Blessing Muzarabani defended the next two deliveries and left the third one alone. Ervine again took strike for the next over, with Zimbabwe having yet to add to their overnight score. Rashid went short for the first two balls, but pitched it much fuller the third time. The ball landed just outside off, turned in, and struck Ervine in front as he missed an attempted sweep.Rashid and his mates went up right away, even as umpire Ahsan Raza's finger took its time to show up. But it eventually did, although the first impression was of the ball missing leg stump. However, there was no DRS to turn to, leaving the Afghanistan players jumping and celebrating. It was a come-from-behind win fashioned by centuries from Rahmat Shah and debutant Ismat Alam in the second innings, which Afghanistan had started 86 runs in the arrears. Not to be left behind with the bat, Rashid even contributed what turned out to be crucial innings of 25 and 23.As a result, Afghanistan took the two-match series 1-0 after a high-scoring draw in the first Test, and left Zimbabwe with a series win across each of the three formats.Himanshu Agrawal is a sub-editor at ESPNcricinfo

Clive Madande: Franchise Cricket Can Bring New Talent to Zimbabwe
Wicketkeeper Clive Madande hopes his team can put up a strong performance against India in the upcoming five-match T20 series starting Saturday. He believes that greater participation in franchise cricket could attract more young talent to the sport in Zimbabwe.
Tumblr media
The Day Cricket Became a Passion
Clive Madande’s love for cricket began as a 12-year-old when his father took him to watch a Test match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club in 2014. Zimbabwe’s victory by 24 runs left a lasting impression on him. “It was one of the greatest days in Zimbabwean cricket. We beat Pakistan, and I thought, well, I should play this game,” Madande recalls. Now, a decade later, he is a key figure in reviving Zimbabwe’s cricketing legacy.
The Struggles of Zimbabwean Cricket
Despite that memorable victory, Zimbabwe’s cricket has faced numerous challenges over the past decade. Administrative issues, lack of infrastructure, government interference, salary cuts, and a talent shortage have hindered progress. While there have been occasional upsets, such as beating Australia in an ODI in Townsville and Pakistan in the 2022 World Cup, the golden era of players like the Flower brothers, Neil Johnson, Murray Goodwin, and Heath Streak is a distant memory.
Seeking Guidance from Legends
Madande often seeks advice and motivation from Zimbabwean cricket legends like Dave Houghton and Tatenda Taibu. “Guys like Houghton and Taibu, I speak to them regularly for advice, motivation, and tips. Whenever I feel like struggling, I go back to them,” he says.
Upcoming Challenges and Opportunities
Zimbabwe has a busy schedule ahead, starting with the India T20I series. They will host all top nations except Australia and tour countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and England. Madande sees these matches as a big motivation to play harder and smarter. “Like we showed in the series against Bangladesh, we have talent. We played good cricket there, just that we couldn’t get the results we wanted,” he explains.
Experience and Talent in the Squad
Led by the seasoned Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe’s team includes experienced players like all-rounders Luke Jongwe and Wessly Madhevere, fast bowlers Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani. Playing in front of home crowds is a huge advantage. “We would be playing in our backyard; there will be a lot of people cheering for us. It’s still the most popular sport in the country, and a lot of youngsters and schoolboys play this game,” Madande says.
Learning from the Best
Madande acknowledges the strength of the Indian team, even though it is an in-transition squad. He admires players like Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Jitesh Sharma. The 24-year-old knows that strong performances could attract the attention of IPL scouts. “If more of us get to play cricket in franchises, the game would draw more young talent to it, which would be good for the game overall in the country,” he says.
Building a Bright Future
Zimbabwe Cricket is planning to establish a national cricket academy, refurbish the domestic league, and install indoor training facilities at all five domestic centers. Madande is optimistic that these efforts will help Zimbabwe rediscover its giant-slaying mojo and inspire more youngsters to fall in love with the game, just as he did a decade ago.

Raza masterclass as Zimbabwe smash Dutch in World Cup qualifier | Cricket News
Tumblr media
The Zimbabwe national cricket team has made history by defeating the Netherlands in the World Cup qualifier match. This is the first time Zimbabwe has won a World Cup qualifier match since the tournament began in 2007. The match was a masterclass performance by Zimbabwe's captain, Hamilton Masakadza, who scored an unbeaten century to lead his team to victory. Masakadza's innings of 101 not out was the highest score of the match and helped Zimbabwe to a total of 287/7. The Netherlands were unable to match Zimbabwe's total, and were bowled out for just 181 runs. Zimbabwe's bowlers were led by Blessing Muzarabani, who took four wickets for just 28 runs. The victory was a huge boost for Zimbabwe, who had been struggling in the tournament prior to this match. The win also puts Zimbabwe in a strong position to qualify for the World Cup, as they now have a strong chance of finishing in the top two of their group.
