Rest in Peace: We lost one of our musical icons today, Tina Turner. She was truly a dynamic and charismatic artist. Her music and performances were electrifying! She was known as the Queen of Rock & Roll! Her incredible story from trauma and pain to superstar is well documented through her book, movie, and Broadway show. Her life is a testimonial to us all that we are not defined by our past and that we can achieve our wildest dreams! My condolences to her family, friends, and fans! #tinaturner #musicallegend #icon #RIP

(Had to re-upload this. A glitch in the matrix seems to have deleted the sound the first time around. Apologies.) #TBT (Edited post: I don't knew why there is no sound. The matrix seems to have glitched. I'll attempt to re-upload with sound later.) I went to see #Whitney (the documentary) yesterday and left the theatre feeling wildly emotional. I toured with her when I was just getting my feet wet here in LA (1997-1999?). My first show with her was this one, live on HBO, filmed at Constitution Hall in my hometown (so both of my parents were in the audience that night!). I learned so much from this entire organization and still remain very close with many of the band members. I can't even explain how powerful Whitney's gift was and how deeply connected she was to something so much bigger than all of us. But every time she produced a sound, we could all feel that power/connection. She was a once-in-lifetime force and phenomenon and I'm grateful to have had this experience. Shout out to my fellow BGVs in this clip: @pattiehoward and @bigmocha7. And big shout to my dear friend/brother @rickeyminor who continues to be a rock for so many of us. I love y'all dearly! #whitneyhouston #sharlottegibson #pattiehoward #sysmith #BGVs #ClassicWhitney #SupportingVocalists #BackgroundVocals #MusicalLegends (at DAR Constitution Hall)

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of the legendary Ray Manzarek. Born on February 12, 1939, in Chicago, Ray's upbringing was steeped in a rich musical environment. From an early age, he showed immense talent as a pianist and organist, drawing inspiration from jazz, blues, and classical music.
Ray's path took a momentous turn when he crossed paths with Jim Morrison in 1965. Together, they formed one of the most iconic rock bands of all time, The Doors. Ray's mastery of the keyboard and his ability to create mesmerizing melodies perfectly complemented Jim's poetic lyrics and charismatic presence. The Doors' unique sound became a defining force in the psychedelic rock movement of the '60s.
Their musical success knew no bounds, with hits like "Light My Fire," "Riders on the Storm," and "Break on Through (To the Other Side)". The enigmatic blend of Ray's hypnotic organ playing and Jim's profound lyrics created an ethereal and introspective experience for listeners.
Tragedy struck in 1971 when Jim Morrison passed away, but Ray's passion for music endured. He continued to pursue a solo career and collaborated with numerous artists, embracing different genres and experimenting with his sound. His post-Doors albums like "The Golden Scarab" and "Carmina Burana" showcased his versatility and creativity as a musician.
Ray was classically trained and earned a degree in cinematography before diving headfirst into the world of rock music? His diverse background undoubtedly contributed to the Doors' distinctive style and their ability to push artistic boundaries.
"Light My Fire," is one of the Doors' most iconic songs. Released in 1967, this timeless masterpiece carries a deeper meaning beyond its catchy melody. It explores themes of liberation, desire, and the transcendence of boundaries. "Light My Fire" became a symbol of the counterculture movement, resonating with an entire generation.
The Doors' appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1967 became a controversial moment in television history. The producers wanted them to change the line "girl, we couldn't get much higher" due to its drug-related connotations. However, the band stood their ground and performed the song as originally intended, marking a rebellious act against censorship.
Today, we pay tribute to Ray Manzarek, a visionary musician whose influence continues to ripple through the decades. His legacy is forever etched in the annals of rock history, and his contributions to the world of music are immeasurable. Rest in peace, Ray, and thank you for the endless inspiration you've provided.

Just because your timeline deserves some Prince. Fun fact: During the week of July 27, 1984, Prince's film Purple Rain hit number one at the box office. That same week, the film's soundtrack was the best-selling album and "When Doves Cry" was holding the top spot for singles. He wrote several songs for other artists, which many became big hits including: Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, The Bangles’ “Manic Monday”, Chaka Khan’s “I Feel for You” and Shiela E.’s “The Glamorous Life”. When it was all said and done Prince wrote more songs than The Beatles, with a back catalog that reaches over 600 songs! Legendary! #Goldfocus • • • • #explorepage #artistsoninstagram #thisweekoninstagram #shareblackstories #explore #newmusic #deepthoughts #blackthought #revolttv #earthgang #legendsneverdie #prince #musicallegends #artistformerlyknownasprince #earthgang #blackhollywood #tsrblacklove https://www.instagram.com/p/CG8YUM9HyLt/?igshid=14xl3w9lnsmnv
