Mumbai Imposes GRAP-IV-Like Restrictions Amid Poor Air Quality: Construction Activities Halted

In response to worsening air quality, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on December 30 that it would enforce partial GRAP-IV (Graded Response Action Plan) restrictions in the Borivali East and Byculla areas of Mumbai. The move comes as the Air Quality Index (AQI) in these areas breaches the 200 mark, classified as "poor."

Impact on Construction Activities

As part of the measures, the BMC has ordered the suspension of both private and public construction activities in these regions whenever the AQI crosses 200. Mumbai Civic Body Chief Bhushan Gagrani confirmed that construction work in Borivali and Byculla would cease in response to persistent poor air quality.

However, the BMC has clarified that this restriction is not blanket; construction activities will only be halted when the AQI exceeds the 200 threshold. On December 31, the AQI remained below 200 in all of Mumbai's areas, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Mitigation Measures for Developers

Despite not imposing a total ban on construction, the BMC has urged developers to adopt pollution control measures. These include covering buildings with green cloth, installing at least 25-foot-high sheets or metal barriers around construction sites, continuous water spraying, using misting plants, and installing air quality monitoring sensors. Developers must also implement vehicle wheel washing facilities and ensure proper dust storage and transportation.

Furthermore, real estate developers are required to create an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for their projects to mitigate pollution effectively.

Restrictions on Construction During High AQI

Construction work is prohibited on public and private sites once the AQI exceeds 200. Contractors and developers are given 24 hours to bring their activities to a safe level, after which further construction cannot proceed until the AQI improves.

Industry Reaction

Real estate developers have largely supported the BMC's directives but have called for fair treatment across both public and private construction projects. Keval Valambhia, Chief Operating Officer of CREDAI-MCHI, expressed support, emphasizing the industry's commitment to improving environmental conditions. He also highlighted that CREDAI-MCHI had previously issued an advisory on air quality measures in October 2024.

As Mumbai continues to tackle poor air quality, these measures aim to reduce pollution from construction activities and ensure a healthier environment for residents.

Sanaya was gorgeous and dint hey kind of made her look like a sleazebag in ipk ?

You know in the beginning I was offended with this ask because I don’t like associating any women with her clothing choices and definitely don’t like the words “sleaze bag” when we’re talking about women and clothes.

However, on a chat with @aye-masakalii there’s something I understood that I culturally just didn’t.

Khushi’s clothes ARE problematic. Because they’re also worn on a daily basis. The sparkles on her clothes are cheap - and no one else in her family has it. And the cheap isn’t the cheap fabric, it’s an add on cheap sparkle that is usually found on Desi Bar Dancers.

Look at the embellishments and tightness of the outfits of all the clothing over here - and especially the kind and quality of sparkles here.

And look at Khushi’s versus Paro’s outfits.

Paro is a classic village belle.

You can see the difference between their clothes instantly.

In IPK Anjali was the only one who was consistently well dressed. La was also great pre Desi-fication. Khushi has just CERTAIN outfits where she looks beautiful cause Sanaya is GORGEOUS.

And to be honest - there was a very brief period when heroines on ITV were in this weird overtly sexualized tight outfit era (and thankfully were not in them at all). My friend refused to believe there was any deeper meaning behind the clothes, lol.

They did go for a “oh so innocent, isn’t aware of her wearing tight sparkly clothes that catches the attention of people around her”

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong about tight sparkly clothes - like tbh Kareena ROCKS the outfits, the difference being that her character knows why she’s dressed up like that. Hence she’s oozing amaze beauty, confidence and charm.

And even Nupur in MJHT - she’s a bit of a flirt, she knows people go all “haye” over her, she LOVES being flashy (it does go awkward in Mumbai) but she’s just very aware of why she looks like a rainbow on some days.

And Khushi is given a very someone who innocently puts that sparkles on her clothes without knowing how it appears.

And that, in my opinion, is the main problematic aspect of the clothing Khushi has.

NEW DELHI, Nov 3 (Reuters) - India's capital New Delhi was wrapped in a thick layer of toxic haze on Friday and some schools were ordered closed as the air quality index (AQI) plummeted to the "severe" category.New Delhi again topped a real-time list of the world's most polluted cities compiled by Swiss group IQAir, which put the Indian capital's AQI at 640 in the "hazardous" category on Friday, followed by 335 in the Pakistani city of Lahore.Regional officials said a seasonal combination of lower temperatures, a lack of wind and crop stubble burning in neighbouring farm states had caused a spike in air pollutants.Many of New Delhi's 20 million residents complained of irritation in the eyes and itchy throats with the air turning a dense grey as the AQI hovered around 480 in some monitoring stations.An AQI of 0-50 is considered good while anything between 400-500 affects healthy people and is a danger to those with existing diseases."In my last 24 hours duty, I saw babies coughing, children coming with distress and rapid breathing," Aheed Khan, a Delhi-based doctor, said on social media platform X.There were fewer people in the city's parks such as Lodhi Garden and India Gate, popular with joggers.Residents snapped up air purifiers. One service centre for the appliances said there was a shortage of new filters and fresh stocks were expected on Monday.

Officials said they saw no immediate improvement in the air quality.

"This pollution level is here to stay for the next two to three weeks, aggravated by incidents of stubble burning, slow wind speed and cooling temperatures," said Ashwani Kumar, chairman of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.

Poor air quality also caused respiratory problems, irritation in the eyes and restlessness in pet animals.

"Breathing trouble can develop into pneumonia or other ailments in younger animals. If possible, avoid taking pets out on morning walks for a few days till the air improves," said Prabhat Gangwar, a veterinarian at animal welfare NGO Friendicoes.
