Hey everyone, I thought I’d do another design blog post regarding my new character.
I spent quite some time growing up on a family farm as a kid, and it was always one of my favorite places to go on vacation as I got older. It’s kind of an air of openness and exploration that makes the rolling hills a perfect backdrop to the crop boxes and berry bushes.
We grew some herbs as well in little planter boxes near our porch. The most often one we did was basil, which also goes by the name coriander. I wanted my character to reflect both the nature theme and also be a very friendly personality. I’m thinking that she would be the kind of person to run up and give you a hug after shouting your name if she sees you in a small crowd in public, which trying to catch up with how you have been.
I also spent some time growing up in the south east, where names like Mary-Anne or similar were common. Even in my own family we had some people named in this style. I wanted Coriander to reflect this in her design to follow up on the more “personal” nature of this character, hence why I decided for her to go by Cori Anne.
I wanted her species to reflect her personality, so I designed her after a painted dog, known for its oddly communicative and selfless social structure. Unlike the typical painted dog, however, Cori Anne lacks the typical spots and marks that others would have. I plan to use this to explore some aspects of her character in the webcomic, but it’ll hopefully make sense by then.
I did use some new shading techniques with blending and multi color shading, as well as experimenting with a new style for eyes. I am trying to slowly improve as I make these, and will probably make one more OC before I start making content of them, or even start the webcomic.
Thanks for reading, and I hope this was a neat view into the mind of a character designer using personal experience to come up with a unique design concept. Keep doing your best, and be safe everyone!

Giant Schnauzer: Height, Weight, Lifespan, Care Special Info
The Giant Schnauzer is a strain of canine developed in the 17th century in Germany. It’s the largest of the three types of Schnauzer — the other two types being the Standard Schnauzer and the Atomic Schnauzer. multitudinous types were used in its development, including the black Great Dane, the Bouvier des Flandres, and the German Pinscher.
Firstly bred to help on granges by driving beasts to request and guarding the planter’s property, the strain ultimately moved into the megacity, where it worked guarding breweries, bumblers’ shops, feedlots, and manufactories. It was unknown outside of Bavaria until it came popular as a military canine during World War I and World War II.
They have a thick coarse fleece that protects them from rainfall and from vermin. Giant Schnauzers come in three colors kinds pepper and swab, pure black with black hair, and black and tableware. Where legal, they’re shown with cropped cognizance and docked tails. Like other schnauzers, they have distinctive beards and eyebrows.
moment, the Giant Schnauzer participates in multitudinous canine sports, including Schutzhund. Another sport that the canine excels in is coursework. Due to its alert nature, the canine is also used in police work.
Origin: Germany
Height: 60-65 cm ( female), 65-70 cm ( male)
Weight: 25-34 kg (female), 27-48 kg (male)
Lifespan:12-15 years
Colors: black gray fawn
Breed Characteristics
The Giant Schnauzer is a larger and more important interpretation of the Standard Schnauzer, and he should, as the strain standard says,” be a bold and gallant figure of a canine.” Great intelligence and fidelity make him an astral worker and companion.
A well-bred Giant Schnauzer nearly resembles the Standard Schnauzer, only bigger. As their name suggests, titans are assessing. A joker might stand as high as 27.5 elevations at the shoulder and weigh 95 pounds. The muscular, substantial body is, as the strain’s suckers put it, a” bold and gallant figure of a canine.”
Tumblr media
History
The first giant schnauzers began from Swabia and Wurttember. There was a canine that snared someone’s attention because indeed also it was sound when it was showing strength in its neat line. No doubt, Bavarians liked tykes, but they weren’t satisfied with the size of this canine.
There’s also reason to believe that the giant schnauzer had a close relationship with Bouvier des Flandres, who was the driving canine of Flanders. In the late 19th century, this canine began in Germany, where the size of this canine is medium, compared to the original canine in Germany.
After cattle contending came obsolete by rail, the titans got jobs as European police and military k- 9s. The titans have earned a character as intrepid defenders of every home and family member in America. Their hair is believed to help them repel harsh German layoffs and nonentity mouthfuls.
The Giant Schnauzer was first bred as a multi-purpose ranch canine to cover property and take creatures to request. In 1962, the American Kennel Club registered 23 new Giant Schnauzers. The number was 386 in 1974. In 1984, the number reached around 800 and also it was about 1000 in the coming three times.
In 1912, 94 new tykes were registered, and over 95 in 2011. numerous European Schnauzer clubs concentrate on race performance, not on evidence shows. In numerous nations, including Germany, tykes are needed to win the title of shoot and champion.

The very start of our garden....
So I want to share the start of the garden, or more accurately the VERY base start of it.
5 years ago my sister and I took a huge financial leap and purchased a house.  It was something we had sorta planned together when we were younger, but didnt really think much of until we moved into an apartment together.
(It keepss loading the pic at the bottom of the post, so I apologise for multi edits)
This is what it looked like when we first moved in. Cropped out for our neighbours privacy is also a palm tree.
We knew from the get go that we wanted to be able to garden and 'farm' as best we could from our location, even if we didnt fully know how. We specifically chose it because we could keep chickens, it wasnt in an hoa and was close to where we both worked. If we had been able to, we would have purchased further out of town, but we had to make some sacrifices to get what we wanted on our budget and still be able to do what we wanted.
As you can see the previous owners put in rock, likely because it is extremly low maintenance and looked nice (according to the real estate agent, its 'basic' and adds value to a listed home 🙄). It took us nearly 4 years to remove the rocks. 😥
We tried listing it up on craigslist for sale, for free, offered to help load it up. Would have helped cart it off but due to being broke kids and now a mortgage to pay off we had one really old car between us and it was not something that  would go the distance so to speak (another reason for our location choice).  In the end.... we ended up shoveling a few scoops each week into the trash until it was gone. That took at least 8 or 9 months. Unfortunately we are still pulling rocks out of the smaller area near the front patio, but it is what it is :(
The end result was a hot barren chunk of cracking clay like earth and a stump. The soil in our area is literally clay and rock. It is HARD as all git, you can take a shovel to it and get mayby 3 Inches in the ground.
Those teeny plants pictured we pulled them out, because we wanted to try and grow mostly edible plants and the tiny bushes were not edible in anyway (come to find out, they are generally considered poisonous but a very common landscaping plant in our area! 🤯). The palm we ended up cutting down as we are not fans of the palm trees around here for pest reasons and it was getting too big for us to trim and care for on our own. We also tried all the things we did for the rock to no avail. In the end we paid a neighbor to cut it down and remove it for us. The stump we're keeping, mostly because it makes a nice planter roost :)
Since we really didnt know what might have been used on or in the soil we had to work to amend it some and wait. We added no less than 6 truckloads of free state offered woodchip/compost and just waited. Mostly because we didnt have any extra money or knowledge or on where to go next. (At the time as well we did not have a good social network, nor access to computers to research, thank the sky and sea for updated phones and libraries!)
I would like to add as a side note, if you have the money, buy compost/mulch from a reputable company, if you can. The bulk free stuff was not fully broke down and sprouted lots of little mesquite trees and a bunch of thorny bushes that are native to our home state. We ended up waiting a lot longer than we wanted, at least another 6 months, but probably longer and had to pull/trim/dig out whatever sprouted. I ended up with lots of prickly thorny wounds over that time, even with gloves :(  I do think in the end it was worth it though, but dang them prickly thorny boi's hurt!  End side note
Anywho, during the last 3ish years I decided to start attending collage. Originally it was to learn about aquaponics and crop production since the local communitycollege has a course in it, which has now turned into me going for at least an associates degree in sustainable agriculture. I went in to get solid know how on how to grow food and grow it well. To which, so far I have not been dissapointed. I'm still attending and have a little while to go, but that is still a part of my story unfolding day to day :)
So last november was when I finally got us going in seriousness to getting our garden going. Some was due to the covid situation, but more because unless we just get to it and do it we'll never really learn how to do it!
Next post I'll share how we did our set up~
🌱 🍃 Happy Gardening everyone! 🍃 🌱

Simply Hydroponics
Yukon Gold potatoes had been sub-irrigated with nutrient answer and offered both minimal or no commercial growing medium. Seed items were either positioned on a paper towel wick over an upside-down nursery tray and covered with dry grass or lined with 250 ml of growing medium plus dry grass. Net pots with direct-seeded watercress were placed in floating extruded polystyrene boards. In a rainshelter at 1200 m elevation, the first harvest at forty three days was 1.75 kg/sq m and a ratoon crop after 35 days yielded four.79 kg/ sq m. Placing a 70% shade screen over the plots resulted in a 65% yield decrease, however a reemay cowl increased yields by 17%.
Tumblr media
Organic compounds aren't necessary for regular plant nutrition. Some organic materials (i.e. notably manures and offal) can further degrade to emit foul odors under anaerobic conditions. In a industrial setting, watering frequency is multi-factorial and ruled read more by computers or PLCs. Produce nutritious crops with out the necessity of pesticides or chemical substances. Personalize your garden with the Wooden Trellis Screen & Planter System. Continental, Lebanese and cocktail varieties all carry out exceptionally properly in Galuku substrate.
I knew growers within the United States may obtain a far better quality product with much less stress on distribution. The outcomes indicated that the 70% ETc therapy obtained the highest crop yield adopted by ETc, FI, and TI treatments, respectively. On average, cucumber yield underneath 70% ETc therapy was 24%, 6% and 4% greater than that under TI, FI and ETc remedies, respectively. At the end of harvesting stage plant height, above-ground dry matter obtained by 70% ETc treatment was larger than the opposite therapies. The smallest plant top and dry matter was obtained under TI remedy.
So, the goal is to current to you an overview of crop yields and schedules. Adverse temperature, extreme soil moisture, and poor diet have also been advised as causes. Remove severely curved fruit from the plant as quickly as potential. Cover seeded containers with clear polyethylene movie until emergence to enhance soil temperature and moisture situations. "I am at present experimenting with a small plot of land to grow cucumber before venturing into it on a large scale.
Continued, timely harvest keeps the plants in a productive mode since cucumber plants have a limit to the variety of fruits they will support any instance. Growers harvest by both clipping the fruit stem or twisting the stem. The twisting technique seems to minimize back the amount of exuding sap through the stem. Greenhouse cucumber plants have very large leaves, develop vigorously, and require massive amounts of daylight (Fig. 2). Under good sunlight conditions, every plant must be offered 5 to 7 square toes of greenhouse house.
In your personal home I would suggest that you just not carry the crop more than 3 months as it will get very tough to train and production falls tremendously with the plant age, especially beneath artificial lighting. Transplant one European cucumber per pot with two drip emitters per pot. Place one at the fringe of the rockwool block and the other beside the plant .
The harvested fruit ought to be cooled after harvest to reduce water loss. The most popular cucumbers grown hydroponically in greenhouses are the “European” or “Long English” cucumbers . Other cucumbers turning into more and more in demand are the Beit Alpha , Japanese or Persian pickle cucumbers . They are much like the European cucumbers, however smaller in dimension, usually 4- to 6-inches in size compared to the European ones that average from 12- to 14-inches. These cucumbers are all seedless and “burpless” in nature with thin skins that do not require their peeling earlier than serving in salads. Due to their thin skins, they lose moisture quickly so should be shrink wrapped to stop weight reduction.
At 55 degrees to 60 levels F, savings in gasoline prices shall be significant, however development rate will be slower and harvest shall be delayed. The reported outcomes are typical for practically any plant. Said another method, to provide the whole variety of tomatoes consumed annually in Canada requires 25,000 acres of soil. We sow European cucumbers across the first of February when our greenhouse setting is extra spring-like. One seed per 3-inch peat pot will present sufficient room for early plant improvement. Make positive you sow cucumbers in peat pots and never in flats because cucurbit root methods shouldn't be disrupted.
The plant is normally only able to supporting 3 to four fruit at any given time. When the highest of the plant reaches the overhead help cable, reduce it off after allowing two facet shoots to form above the wire . No fruit must be allowed to set the place the laterals will develop. Attach these side shoots over the wire with a plant clip and permit them to fall down alongside the side of the primary stem of the plant.

How To Start A Vegetable Garden
Getting a vegetable garden started is much easier and a lot quicker than it might seem to the uninitiated. Our aim has always been to make it as easy as possible for you to grow your own successful vegetable garden. The balancing act between what you want to grow, what you can grow, and what you have time to maintain comes with a little time and experience; I frequently bite off more than I can chew in my vegetable garden and have to re-think things as I go but you will find things quickly fall into place.
Tumblr media
A question we get asked a lot is “Will I be able to grow enough to feed my family?”, the answer is yes – depending on how much time you have, how much space there is, and how well you plan it all out. One of my co-workers here started growing their own food only a year ago using containers and found it quite easy to grow enough vegetables for one person.
You're reading: How To Start A Vegetable Garden
Don’t be disheartened by failures, we all experience them  just start small and your new vegetable garden will gradually expand along with your knowledge. Also, remember we are here to help.
Quickcrop is much more than just a shop; we are happy to offer any help an advice you may need whether directly or through our weekly newsletter, YouTube channel or social media pages.
Vegetable Gardening For Beginners
Here are a few tips for getting started (more info further down):
Start small, whether it’s a container or a raised bed; give your garden time to grow.
Only plant what you want to eat or plants that are easily maintained.
Make sure you have a water source as near as possible to your vegetable plants as carrying water can become cumbersome.
Start a compost heap and make sure your compost bin or heap is easily accessible to both your garden and kitchen.
How to start Growing Your Own Vegetables
Start Small Small beginnings are best when starting your own vegetable garden. You will be surprised what your can produce in a relatively small space while dealing with a large vegetable garden can become overwhelming if you have limited time to look after it. We also recommend starting with simple crops that don’t suffer from many pests and diseases like salad crops, spring onions and beetroot so you can get a win under your belt first time around.
Tumblr media
Our vegetable growing kits range from simple single herb and salad planters to more substantial raised beds kits for growing a broader range of crops. Remember you don’t need a large space to start a vegetable garden.

Most crops are happy growing in containers just like houseplants and if the correct compost and feed are used will yield just as well as plants grown in a large traditional vegetable garden. Herbs and salad can be grown in standard house plant pots while larger planters can be used to grow potatoes, carrots, pumpkins or courgettes.
The Secret is in the Soil The secret to vegetable growing is in the soil; a healthy, well fed soil produces strong plants which are able to withstand attack from pests or disease and produce the tastiest harvests. Let us advise you on the best mix to fill your containers to make sure you get off to a flying start.
Vegetables grown in containers are better grown in a compost mix as soil will dry out too quickly but remember ordinary multi-purpose will only feed you plants for 3-4 weeks. We recommend using a rich mix of wormcast and composted green and fish waste (don’t worry, no smell!) for the most luscious plants that will continue to thrive all season. For larger raised beds we recommend our soil and compost mix topped off with our ‘Sea-Feed’ soil improver. We also stock a range of natural plant feeds and soil improver products should your plants need a boost at any stage in the growing season.

Raised Bed Beginners Kits We are the raised vegetable bed experts. We grow all year round in raised beds ourselves and have perfected a range of beds to suit any growing conditions. We always recommend raised beds if you want to start growing your own vegetables as they are so much easier to look after than traditional vegetable beds.
Raised beds offer the beginner vegetable gardener an easy height to work on, a tidy space, less weeding and a higher yield per square foot plus the versatility to position on a grass or hard surface area. All our raised bed kits are pressure treated with a vegetable safe wood preservative so will give many years of growing pleasure while still looking great.
Our Square Foot Gardening System – Vegetable Garden Block Plans Starting a raised bed vegetable garden can be daunting especially when working out how many plants of each variety you can fit in your planters. Some crops take up a lot more room than others with confusing information on space needed between plants and between rows. If you are a beginner gardener, chances are you are starting with one or two raised beds and want to try a number of crops to see what works best for you.
We have taken care of the tricky stuff by introducing our version of the Square Foot Gardening System with plans that fit the most popular raised beds sizes.
Tumblr media
Our Square Foot System uses slightly wider spacing than the original to give you better fed and larger crops. Your beds are divided up into square foot sections (30cm) with a fixed number of each plant planted in each square. Very large or heavy feeding plants may take up multiple squares to allow them room to grow and give you the harvest you are expecting.
We provide a database of Square Foot Garden plans which are free to use and give you a great starting point for your new beginners kitchen garden. We are also working on a new SFG garden web tool to allow you to make up your own vegetable garden plans with plant selections tailor made to your taste.
You can view our current range of square foot block plans and read more about planning your vegetable garden by clicking the blue button below.

Developing sustainable and competitive land-based Protein Crop systems and value chains
Land-based protein crops[2] are a source of food, feed and environmental services and have an increasingly important role to play in the transition to more sustainable farming systems that provide economic, environmental and social benefits. In view of the increase in protein demand, the sustainable diversification of protein sources in the EU and Associated Countries needs to be explored and developed. Land-based protein crops have a significant role to play in this regard. However, due to a variety of factors, their production in the EU and Associated Countries is not sufficient to cover the growing demand for plant-based proteins. It is becoming necessary to develop and ensure more sustainable and resilient supply chains, and to promote higher consumer acceptance and attractive market opportunities. Specific measures are needed to realise the potential of land-based protein crops in the EU and Associated Countries.
Proposals should build on and expand existing knowledge in order to identify the most suitable transition paths for sustainable land-based protein crop production in different pedo-climatic regions, and to develop strategies for sustainable and competitive regional protein-based crop systems and agri-food and feed chains. Proposals should cover the diversity of available and novel land-based protein crop species with a crude protein content of more than 15%, and consider conventional, agroecological and organic farming systems in all European climate/biogeographical regions. Proposals must implement the 'multi-actor approach' and should ensure adequate involvement of farmers and all relevant actors in the value chain for land-based protein crops. Proposals should build on the results of relevant projects and thematic networks funded under Horizon 2020 and include a task to collaborate with the project(s) selected under the following topic in this work programme: HORIZON-CL6-2021-FARM2FORK-01-12: Filling knowledge gaps on nutritional, safety, allergenicity and environmental assessment of alternative proteins and dietary shift. In this topic the integration of the gender dimension (sex and gender analysis) in research and innovation content is not a mandatory requirement.
Proposals should identify the most suitable transition paths for the development of sustainable new and existing land-based protein crop farming systems and agri-food and feed chains across the EU and Associated Countries. Proposals should explore the potential for value chain development, taking into consideration opportunities, constraints and impact of different tools, instruments and policies, on different value chain actors, using case studies of existing farms, networks of farms and producer organisations. Proposals should develop and test strategies for sustainable and competitive local and regional land-based protein crop systems that result in improved production techniques, cropping system design that promote crop diversification, feed efficiency, value chain development, reduced environmental impact and improved farmers’ organisation, taking into account complementarity across regions and addressing regional imbalances. Proposals should document specific support needs (advice, knowledge and best practice sharing, etc.) for farmers seeking to cultivate protein crops in different regions, assessing the availability of specific tools and developing new, innovative ones. Building on existing tools or mechanisms where available and relevant, proposals should establish a transdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder EU and Associated Countries-wide network to facilitate trans-national and trans-regional sharing of knowledge and best practice in land-based protein supply chain management and agronomic practices, including facilitating cross-regional testing of varieties. Building on existing tools or mechanisms where available and relevant, proposals should establish regional multi-stakeholder networks for advisory services, awareness raising, the sharing of knowledge and best practice, experimentation and demonstration on land-based protein crops species that are best adapted to regional conditions. Proposals should analyse the impact of climate change on land-based protein crops in various farming systems, and their contribution towards climate resilient farming and wider environmental benefits in relation to aspects such as biodiversity, input reduction, closing nutrient cycles, increased soil organic matter and improved soil health. Proposals should develop innovative measures for improving the impact of land-based protein crop production in terms of increased (agro-)biodiversity. Proposals should develop methods and indicators to compare the climate, environmental, social and health benefits and costs of greater land-based protein crop production and its industrialisation, considering the impact of policy measures on land-use changes and implications for farmers, in different farming systems and regions. Proposals should develop indicators to take into account and compare the further industrialisation feasibility and costs of the varieties considered. A method for the systematic collection of data on land-based protein crops for economic and environmental assessment should be developed.
Expected Outcome:
A successful proposal should support the farm to fork’s strategy objective of a transition to a fair, healthy and resilient EU agriculture sector, in particular the goal of fostering EU-grown plant proteins, in line with the ‘’Report on the development of plant proteins in the EU’’[1]. Activities should support the transition to sustainable, productive, climate-neutral and resilient farming systems that minimise pressure on ecosystems, while ensuring fair economic returns for farmers and food consumption that is sustainable in terms of both health and the environment.
Project results are expected to contribute to all of the following expected outcomes:
Identification of the most suitable regional and local transition paths for stimulating sustainable, resilient and economically viable land-based protein crop production for food and feed in the EU and Associated Countries, resulting in increased commercial production of such crops and enhanced food security in the context of protein requirements in the EU and Associated Countries; Improved, robust evidence of the social, economic, environmental, climate and health benefits and costs of increasing land-based protein crops production; Improved capacities of farmers to cultivate land-based protein crops through innovative advisory tools, improved and wider exchange of knowledge and best practice, adoption of sustainable crop rotation practices and collaboration with other actors in the value chain; Stronger innovation ecosystem for land-based protein crop development in Europe through multi-stakeholder and transdisciplinary intra-regional, trans-regional and trans-national collaboration and networking.
[2]This topic focuses on protein rich plants with a crude protein content of more than 15 % (oilseeds: rapeseed, sunflower seeds and soya beans; pulses: beans, peas, lentils, lupins etc.; and fodder legumes: mainly alfalfa and clover), accounting for about 1/4 of the total crude plant protein supply in the EU
