Marlene adored Dorcas Meadowes. She adored how extremely beautiful she was. She loved how adorable she was when she laughed about something Marlene had said. She adored when it was just the two of them talking in secret about life, holding hands and playing with their fingers. She adored how Dorcas talked, what she thought about life, her dreams and ideals.
Everything was perfect about Dorcas Meadowes. Marlene could easily say that she was the girl of her dreams.
The only problem that she had, were her hideous friends.
"Thank you for coming with me" Marlene whispered to her friend on their way to the Slytherin Common Room "I think I am sweating in places where people shouldn't sweat"
"Is it boobs? Boobs are an inconvenient place to sweat... I guess you won't mind that considering you are a lesbian and all..."
"For God's sake, Mary" Marlene groaned "You're making me more nervous"
Mary grinned in the dark. She looked perfect with her purple dress, heels that matched and that furry black coat. Marlene had tried a dress as well. It was a big tee turned into a dress more like. With a Black Sabbath print on the front, and ripped tights, combat boots. Maybe something more "feminine" would have worked, but Marlene hated pastel colors.
"But Marly, if you wanted diplomacy with the posh wankers, you should have brought Lily, not me" Mary added as she fixed her lipstick in a trophy shelf nearby.
"I needed someone who would criticize those barbies in a bitchy way with me. And you know how nice Lily is"
"True" Mary smiled as they carried on walking.
They loved Lily but sometimes that girl was too good for this world and people liked to take advantage of her for her kindness.
"But don't flirt around" Marlene warned "Especially with Nick... Actually stay away from him..."
Mary raised an eyebrow "Please... I am so over that handsome twat..."
Marlene gave her a look.
"What? The fact that he is a twat doesn't take away his beauty"
"Oh for God's sake" Marlene sighed as they reached to the main doors of the green house.
Mary placed her hand of Marlene's shoulder.
"Just be your cheerful self and everything will be okay"
"Am I allowed to vomit first?"
Mary shook her head.
"I really fancy her, Mary" Marlene whined with a pout.
Mary gave her a smile before pushing her inside.
Marlene had been to the Slytherin Common Room before, but she was always surprised (and a bit disgusted) by the amount of green. Maybe she was used to the red. But there was something about Gryffindor colors that were warmer and more cozy. This common room reminded Marlene of a very fancy but sticky pub.
Marlene looked around noticing some familiar faces: Alecto and her brother, Alice, Josephine, some of the Knights. Regulus and his friend Barty were even smoking weed in a corner and what appeared to be making fun of people. Sirius’s little brother!
"I didn't know Regulus was a junkie" Marlene commented.
"The kid has always been kind of edgy" Mary tutted.
Marlene caught Regulus's gaze and waved with a smile. Regulus didn't expect to see her because he became pale and dragged his friend away.
I'm that instant, Marlene heard a very familiar voice. So soothing and sexy.
"McKinnon!! You came!!"
As Dorcas's arms wrapped her neck, Marlene's nostrils were filled with the most delicious smell. She always smelled of lavender and strong mint.
Immediately Marlene smiled. Like a fool. She was so happy to see this girl.
And God! Dorcas was so beautiful tonight. She was wearing a white ensemble with a colorful bandana on top of her head, her braids coming down gracefully. And Dorcas was so pretty that she didn't need much makeup.
Sometimes Marlene thought she was lucky that a girl this gorgeous was with her.
And God, when Dorcas kissed her in front of the pretentious of her friends, Marlene was in heaven.
"Pretty as always, princess" Marlene said which made her girlfriend blush.
"You look so cool as well" Dorcas responded "That dress looks sexy on you"
"Aaw and you guys are too adorable..."
Marlene was reminded of Mary's presence when she realized her friend was staring at them with a wide smile on her face.
"I'm so glad you could join us, Macdonald" Dorcas said to her "We always make big deals out of Sam's birthdays"
"Sure, with daddy's money" Marlene whispered under her breath as she stared at Samuel Avery. Such a pretentious twat. Drinking shots, he was. Next to the devil, or as people knew him: Nick Mulciber. Dorcas's step brother.
"What?" Dorcas asked.
"What?" Marlene replied.
"We are going to have great fun" Mary interrupted with a chuckle.
"Sure!" Dorcas smiled, holding Marlene's hand. Fingers intertwined. Marlene's heart started beating fast.
"And it is no fun without a first shot on your system"
Marlene almost rolled her eyes. It wasn't a Slytherin party without Nick Mulciber trying to get people drunk. Head of the Knights and all.
She didn't understand why girls considered him charming and handsome. He was a twat.
"What's up, Bubba!! Long time no see!" Marlene exclaimed. She loved seeing his reaction when she said that. Especially when people around them laugh.
"McKinnon, didn't we see each other yesterday in class?" Nick asked "And I don't like when you call me that"
"I find it adorable" Dorcas added with a smile "Maybe I will call you that from now on"
"Oi! Oi! Bubba!" Avery called from the other side of the room, making several people laugh. Nick showed him his middle finger.
"It suits you" Marlene grinned as she hit Dorcas's palm.
Nick didn't know how to hide his annoyance. He smiled fakely. Then turned to Mary who was fixing her breasts into her dress.
"Macdonald... I didn't know you were coming" Immediately Nick put on his flirty gallant mode "Shot?"
These two had history. Basically he was Mary's first boyfriend and a shitty one for that matter.
"I'm alright, Nick. Promised Marly I would be the designated walker..." she smiled to her own joke "I am hungry, though. Do you have any food?"
"I can happily take you to the food table"
"I'm a big girl" she said, and God, was she flirting? "I can go by myself"
Mary winked at Marlene before walking away, attracting the eyes of several boys around. And Nick's eyes didn't leave her tush as she left.
"Nick!!" Avery shouted, getting his attention back to him "We need more shots over here!".
"Ladies"
"Bubba..."
Dorcas covered a giggle as her brother finally left. But she let it out when he was gone.
"God!!" Marlene let out a sigh of relief "Did I dress correctly? Princess, I was really nervous. First party with your friends since we started dating and I wanted to give a good impression. Then I go and call your brother Bubba, I thought it was funny but it was pathetic and I am sweating everywhere, even my tits are sweating! I know you are going to think I am smooth with words and conversations but I am a fiasco in reality... You have no idea... And now you are laughing... Am I talking too much?"
Dorcas didn't answer. She was smiling beautifully though. And Marlene felt naked by the way she was looking at her. Then she wrapped her arms around Marlene's neck and pulled her in for a very worthy and satisfying kiss. It made Marlene smile when it was done.
"I am so glad you are here" she said "I used to get so bored in these parties but you make everything ten times better"
"Happy to help" Marlene smiled back.
"Do you want to dance?"
"Sure"
Marlene thought she had been through the worst. But no. Two minutes after dancing, and Alecto Carrow was all over her.
"Darling, nice look! Did you find that tee in the boys' dorm?"
"Did you find a brain yet? Or are they too hard to get?"
Alecto laughed loudly and openly with her high-pitched voice. Of course Dorcas believed it was innocent teasing between them.
"You kill me! You're so funny!" she exclaimed "Dorki, your girlfriend is hilarious! I would want one like that as well if I were a lesbian... Shame I am boy crazy!"
"Shame! Otherwise I would be all over you"
Alecto gasped and giggled hitting Marlene's arm.
"Don't get jealous, Dorki! I know I am irresistible even for girls"
"We all know that, Al" Dorcas said with a smile "Don't worry"
Marlene honestly didn't know how Dorcas stood this girl everyday.
"You shouldn't have brought that Maneater with you, though" Alecto sipped her drink and Marlene's eyes traveled to where Mary was. She was already taking and laughing with a bloke.
"Alecto!" Dorcas protected.
"It was a joke!" Alecto laughed "We are all sisters now"
It wasn't that Alecto was mean persay, not like Nick, the devil, Mulciber. But she was so annoyingly hallow it was funny. Sometimes Marlene liked her, sometimes she found her stressing.
Marlene smiled sympathetically as Alecto moved away.
"Sorry, she's a bit too much sometimes" Dorcas whispered to her "But in the bottom, right right in the bottom of her heart..." she smiled "She is a good person"
"Don't worry" Marlene waved down "It's like having a real life Barbie"
Dorcas let out a chuckle.
"Never had a Barbie"
"No way!" Marlene exclaimed "Never?"
"I had baby dolls when I was a baby, from five and on, only Ballet"
There she was. Marlene had never been a fan of damsels in distress but Dorcas was one. Her mother had been too strict with her. She was only sixteen. She had her whole life ahead of her. Marlene wished she could take her off that bubble.
"No wonder why you like Alecto so much" Marlene joked, making Dorcas smile "You, my lady... Need to have more fun... Do you like Avery?"
Dorcas raised an eyebrow. She didn't know if it was tricky question since that boy had been after Dorcas since forever. Thank God Dorcas was as much of a lesbian as her.
"He's alright"
"So let's get tossed, dance, be wild and young for the rest of his birthday, alright?"
Dorcas's eyes glowed with excitement. She was gorgeous like that.
"Sounds splendid!"
They sealed it with a kiss.
True to their words, they ended up having fun. It was just the two of them. Occasionally Mary who flew around the room like a butterfly. But Marlene could say that she was having fun. She could tell Dorcas as well. She had never seen the Ice Princess smiling and laughing so much.
She was more daring as well. They were having a competition of shots and now that Marlene's girlfriend was a bit intoxicated, she loosed herself.
Although her friends weren't happy to see Dorcas so changed. Marlene noticed the glances from her dear brother in law.
"Okay! I am pissing myself. I think I am going to pee"
It was funny to see such refined princess talk so raw like Marlene.
"Are you sure you can manage on your own?" she asked laughing a little "Are we okay?"
"You are so okay, milady" Dorcas winked and then slapped Marlene's ass.
"Oh!"
"This is my girl, ladies and gentlemen!" she screamed. "Marlene McKinnon with her fun crazy ass!"
Marlene blushed as several people turned to look at her.
"Right, miss 'shouldn't drink no more', I think I will take you to the loo"
Dorcas shook her head. She looked so happy, like never before. "I am fine..."
Marlene looked into her eyes.
"I am fine because I love you"
Marlene froze. It was the first time she said it. Just like that. As if it was so easy to say two words. She even looked more sober by the seriousness of her words.
"Love you, McKinnon" Dorcas gave her a little peck on the lips "Be right back"
Marlene considered following her when she Dorcas arm and arm with Alice Fortescue and she considered she would be alright. Plus, she was kind of panicking. Did Dorcas say she loved her? Was that pure drunk talk or real?
"Did you also hear that?" Marlene asked a random boy next to her.
He simply stared at her with a quizzinal look.
"Oh my God, am I dreaming?" she carried on "Did the Ice Princess say she loved me?"
The boy didn't reply.
"Shit, I don't even know you" she told him, then she looked around "Mary?? Mary Macdonald?? MAARYYY!!"
The Slytherin Common Room was too crowded and it was difficult to find Mary. Marlene touched the shoulder of a girl similar to Mary snogging someone but it wasn't her. She needed advice. Marlene didn't know what to do. Should she say it back? Did she feel it?
"Fuck Mary, where are you?" Marlene asked to herself as she reached the stairs that went down to the dorms "You better not be shagging someone"
"Knowing your friend, she probably is"
Marlene rolled her eyes as she heard his voice behind her. When she turned there was his stupid face in front of her. Mulciber.
"Jealous much, Bubba?" Marlene asked as she crossed her arms.
"Please, I don't have that bad taste"
"Then how do you stand to look at yourself in the mirror everyday?"
Mulciber almost smiled but then he just pursed his lips.
"You think you are so funny, don't you?"
"I have my good days"
Marlene decided to leave, because it was uncomfortable the way he was looking at her. And they were all alone. Which was even worse.
"Good chat... Should probably go"
Mulciber stopped her before she could cross passed him.
"Wait, McKinnon. I think we should speak"
"Sorry, I don't speak monkey"
"This is serious" Mulciber grunted pushing her a little.
In reality, Marlene was a bit scared of this wanker. As much as she played brave. So she swallowed but tried to hide she was frightened.
"Are we going to be sentimental now? Should I grab some tissues?"
"I get that we are in the big age of experimentation" Nick said ignoring Marlene "Boys with boys, girl with girls... It seems exciting for some"
This was exactly the thing this tosser would say.
"Gay people don't experiment" Marlene spat "They just are"
"I don't like your pertinent tone and the way you think you are better than everyone else, McKinnon"
Something about the way he said it, gave chills to Marlene.
"I don't think I am better than everyone else. Just you"
"Dorcas might be fooling around with you but don't get your hopes up, McKinnon" Nick was getting uncomfortably closer so she was trying to back away "You know she is too much for you. Everyone knows that. Even Dorcas knows that"
He made a pause. So she blinked, trying not to shake.
"Dorcas is meant to do great things in the future. A ballet prodigy. A star. And even if your daddy is a famous athlete, McKinnon, you will never be at her level"
"Are you saying that because I am a girl?" Marlene snapped.
Mulciber grinned "I'm saying that because you are you" he said "You are loud, crazy, a rebel. You're going downhill. It is your brother who has a future, what do you have? What are you actually good at except causing trouble?"
Marlene had to admit his words were hurting her. It was as if someone was squeezing juice out of her most deepest insecurities.
"Please, look at yourself. You are not lady like, not a proper girl, and not even pretty"
Other girls were pretty, feminine and delicate. Marlene had a big nose, weird ears and there was no filter on what she said. What on earth did Dorcas see in her? A clown? A personal clown to make her laugh and make her life interesting. No, a sweet princess like her could never love the mess that she was.
"You understand that I am her brother and it is my job to expect the best for her" Mulciber added, then he smiled when he saw Marlene's eyes filling with tears "Aaaw, do you want to cry, McKinnon?"
Marlene was no lady. She did what she did best. She stepped on his foot so hard, that he screamed in pain.
"I also think Dorcas deserve better than a brother with a brain as small as his dick"
Mulciber groaned "You little..."
"Hey! Everything okay?"
Both Marlene and Nick to see Dorcas a few meters away from them.
Marlene was head over heels with the most beautiful girl she had ever met. She loved everything about her. She probably loved her.
Even if Dorcas's friends were awful. Even if her brother was the absolute worst. Even if her mother would never approve their relationship. Yet, Marlene's heart beated so hard everytime she was around. It could only be love. Right?
"Yeah! Yeah!" Marlene faked a smile "We were just chatting over here. This guy is really funny!"
Then she elbowed him too hard. He let out a grunt.
"I am glad you are getting along, finally" Dorcas beamed.
"Bestest of mates, eh Bubba?"
Nick clenched his jaw and fakely put an arm around Marlene. She wanted to push him away.
"Sure, McKinnon. Bestest of friends"
Marlene really hated this twat. And she couldn't believe he was the brother of the girl of her dreams. The girl she had fallen in love with. Perhaps.
"Good! Let's go dancing more, my sweet McKinnon" Dorcas smiled.
"I hate you" Marlene whispered into his ear with a smile before taking her girlfriend's hand and walking back to the party.

"I see, princess. I understand what's your deal"
Dorcas crossed her arms waiting to hear whatever nonsense McKinnon had to say now. She wished she didn't like this much how this girl called her "princess".
"You are told what to do all the time" McKinnon added.
Dorcas twisted her mouth, but avoided smiling. She wouldn't give McKinnon that satisfaction.
"You don't know anything about my life, McKinnon" Dorcas spat. "So don't talk about what you don't know"
Dorcas didn't want to admit that perhaps it was true. That there were lots of things she couldn't do or couldn't say. She kept so many things to herself or didn't agree with her friends a lot of times. But she hadn't told that to anyone.
"Shame" McKinnon said, ignoring what Dorcas just said "I think you would be much cooler if you were yourself. I know there's a cool girl underneath that cold Slytherin princess"
Dorcas wished McKinnon could not see how her cheeks blushed. She could actually feel her whole face on fire.
"And you would be much cooler if you just shut up, McKinnon" Dorcas snapped, trying to sound furious. "Why don't you look into your life instead of getting into mine? God! You're so annoying" to emphasize she rolled her eyes.
But McKinnon just smiled.
"Just think about it, princess"
As the Gryffindor girl walked away, Dorcas's heart was beating so much, she felt ashamed. She couldn't have a crush on this annoying girl. Not only she was a girl. Dorcas didn't know what that made her. But she represented everything she was supposed to hate.
Those reckless and brainless Gryffindors were everything her friends despised. Plus, her mother would never approve. Worse her step father Zion Mulciber. Worse her step brother Nick.
Dorcas just had to swallow her feelings and forget about Marlene McKinnon for good.
