Alexander Rybak learned to joik in the Norwegian TV-show “Muitte Mu”.

In September 2017 Alexander spent 3 days in Kirkenes in Northern Norway together with his mentor Frode Fjellheim to learn the Sami joik.  After that he went home to compose his first joik “Let The Music Guide You”. Muitte Mu - Remember me

This is not Wow related, but I seriously want to make this post about my definite favourite show on Norwegian television this year.

The show Muitte mu, which means remember me, focuses on the indigenous people of Norway, Sweden, Finland and part of Russia, the Sami people.

The show pays tribute to the sami tradition of joik, which is not singing per se, but a melodic reflection of a place or a person.

In the show we meet six Norwegian artist who have been invited to make a Joik that will be performed for the person they chose and a gathering of Sami people.

 Each artist is under guidance by a professional Sami Joik artist.
